This woman can make three hours fly by! Her sensitivity and sense of humor make Ethnic Studies classes a delight. She never has a harsh word for anyone and leads the class with humor and class. Everyone has to take at least one class from her!
Man, I should have changed majors. Like the other student said, the class was funny and flew by. The writing is 3 7 page papers, but they are not analytical just historical. My only critique is that she does show up late at least by 10/15 minutes, and can go on and on when its only munites from leaving.

EASY TEACHER.. JUST LISTEN TO HER TALK ABOUT HER MOVIES AND DAILY LIFE AND LECTURES ABOUT DIFFERNT CULTURES AND YOU WILL DO WELL ON THE TESTS.. EASY A, JUST KNOW TERMS FROM CHAPTERS AND LISTEN TO WHAT SHE SAYS.. NOT ALOT OF CRITICAL THINKING INVOLVED.. AWESOME LADY... TALKS ALOT, BUT MAKES TIME GO BY
This professor is great! She knows her subject, is energetic and makes the class fly by. I have a difficult time staying awake in night classes but I had no problems in her class. Best prof I have had at Sac State. Her humor is contagious.
she can talk forever about things that have nothing to do with the class. sometimes she shows up 20 mins late. laughs really loud at her own jokes can be really annoying. but. class is passable if u turn everything in.
Really a nice person. I enjoyed her and her class. I walked away a richer person for attending. Her laughter is a hoot
This professor is the best I have had! She knows her subjects, keeps things interesting and her humor is off the charts. Lots of work but fair at grading. Too bad I found out about her my last year, I would have taken other classes.
ok I was going to take ethn 140 from her, but just found out she's not teaching it. I liked her a lot. If you take notes and read you will do well. Everyone should take a class from her. she ended up on of my favorite profs.
Knows her stuff. Fair at grading and she kept my interest, even after working long hours. I want more classes with this professor!
Professor Reed was a fun class. It wasnt hard, 3 seven page papers (writing intensive class) and two exams plus one final which only had ten questions and was multiple choice. It did take long time for her to get assignments back and she loved to go off subject. Overall she was a fun professor.
This prof is way cool. She knows her stuff. I work all day and she managed to keep my interest. She has a great sense of humor and seems to care about students. Keep up with the work and you'll do fine. Grading is fair.
She is an awesome professor. I enjoyed her stories and lectures. She gives a lot of opportunities to her students to pass the class, so there is no reason for anyone to fail AT ALL. Just attend class and do the work. She makes things really clear!
She is the best professor I have ever had! She is organized. She brings in personal knowledge to class readings. This makes it interesting. She is very nice too. I want to take another class from her.
Pretty chill class; show up everyday pay attention to videos and read just the wilkins and its a easy B. I wld recommend her.
Dr. Reed is such a cool person. She has funny stories and a great sense of humore. But her test can be hard, she expects you to know all the little details from lecture, films and books. And there is no study guide! She also tends to postpone test and assignments.
Just finished her summer class. She's funny and very interesting. Uses a lot of her own personal experiences in her lectures... A LOT. Read the assigned books, take some notes on lectures and movies and you'll do fine on the tests. 3 seven page papers since it was a WI course... pretty easy essay topics. Highly recommend taking her. Easy A!
Nice professor, but I thought she got off topic easily. Super easy class if you did all of the work. Also, if you don't like reading textbooks, don't take her class! We read 5 books over the semester, but some of them were interesting.
She knows a lot and keeps it interesting. I liked the class and would take another from her!
Great personality. One of the most cheerful and approachable prof ever! As long as you attend class and do the easy readings you will be fine. Automatic B, but you really should get "gimme" A. 3 Exams are short essay and one research paper. She is an easy grader, so don't worry about it.
She talks for hours about nothing relating to the material and gets off topic telling stories about her history. She can not adapt from ethnic studies to liberal studies. LBST 110 is a history of CA for teachers but I have not gained anything helpful to me as a future teacher. Only reason I stayed in her class was because I needed the class.
She goes off on way too many tangents and I really don't like her laugh. But her classes are really easy. Take her for research methods, I rarely showed up (and completely half did everything) and still got a B. She makes Ethnic Studies a joke major.
I ended up picking this class for last min GE units and glad that I did. Really interesting class, easy assignments, and fun professor. And watched a handful of movies too! Definitely recommend.
She was the greatest professor! The time flew by in the class. She knows her stuff. I will take another class from her in the fall. She's not an easy grader, but fair. Open to listening to students.
Although she is nice and funny, she is so unorganized..its the end of the semester and the only thing she has graded was our first exam so we're clueless where we stand plus she gave out 4 extra quizzes on finals week including the final which really push me, i would not recommend her.
I am bored every day. If we were friends I would appreciate taking half of a class period to go through the pictures on her laptop, but this is not supposed to be a class about her. She tells us she'll put quizzes up online, but doesn't follow through then is condescending when issues are brought up. You learn from the book and movies only.
she is very enthusiastic! it is a an easy class, i didn't even read or buy the book. but you do learn things in her class, with out having to work too hard. she is a bit unorganized, but you will get an A.
Really good teacher if you are open to different teaching styles. You learn as much about the class through her stories, than the actual lectures. If you show up and pay attention, you will get an A.
really funny. super nice teacher easy A!
You will never be bored in Reed's class, I could listen to her storytelling for hours. At first it seems that the stories are just tangents, but they all tie in to the course in the end. Two essay tests, a 7 page paper, and a handful of quizes. Take her, you won't regret it.
As a Native student i was already interested in the subject. Prof. reed is very interesting and her stories all relate to the topic at hand if you ACTUALLY pay attention it will earn you an A easily. Most of the students who fail sleep through the class and wonder why they fail. To sum it up she is helpful and this course is fun and easy.
AWESOME TEACHER. Textbook only needed for online quizzes but she puts them in the library so no need to buy it. Also, part of Native religion is storytelling so pay close attention to her stories because they do show up on the tests. She loves teaching and will do anything to help her students. Takes attendance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS.
attendance is recorded. nice teacher with awesome stories and is very helpful
This professor is great! She listens to students, goes over the class topics and her stories are good to listen to. I will take one of her classes again.
This was one of the most boring classes Ive ever taken. Dr. Reed is very monotonous and extremely unorganized. Doesnt review material prior to exam properly. When emailed about midterm questions, she was not helpful and did not clarify any of the questions asked.
Didn't lecture once during the semester just had us watch many films and youtube clips. Attendance is mandatory. Takes forever to grade material you wont know what you received on anything until grades are posted at the end of the semester. Exams are multiple choice and short answer. If you can, find another professor!!
This is the first time I took a class from this professor. The professor was organized and listened to students. I liked her stories because it fit the class. I am signed up to take another class from her in the fall. After this class I am thinking of a minor in Native Studies. Her laugh is funny too.
She just talks about the most random things ever. It takes literally 20-30 minutes to began the class after taking role because she keeps getting sidetracked. Does not really help students prepare for her midterms... There's only 2 N.A. professors @csus and they're both pretty though so G.L.!
I didn't study for the first exam and did poorly. I thought I was dead, but I went to her office hours and figured out how to pull out with a good grade. She cares about students and I will take her again in the spring.
This is the 2nd class i took from this prof. I love her stories and helps me remember the points. she is so nice and easy to talk with. she knows her subject.
she's the cutest little thing. she's very fun but unorganized. Interview assignment is very clear. supposed to have 5 quizzes and Final exam. 3 reading books for quizzes. many films about Native American history so take lots of notes, will be on Final
She gave a assignment that was interviewing. I didn't want to do it, but in the end I'm glad we did. She knows a lot about Native Americans. it's good to take a class from someone who knows. I want to take her again. She's funny too.
The class gave a lot of good information. I have her again this semester. She makes the expectations clear and is a caring professor. Thanks Dr. Reed!
Three exams alongside two books with three two page papers. Exams are mostly from books read, movies watched in class, and storytelling. Very easy to pass and the professor is outgoing and humorous. Will help you if you reach out to her.
Dr. Reed's includes personal experiences, books, films, lectures, etc. Two exams, quizzes, and 5% final which I appreciated. The class is not hard to pass if you pay attention. She adds humor and will help you if you reach out to her. I had a hard semester and went to see her in her office hours. I ended up learning a lot and passing the class
Dr. Reed is seriously the cutest thing ever. Although she does go on tangents a lot, a lot of the stuff can be related back to the topic. She is such a sweet heart and really loves teaching. Be prepared to read because the exams and paper revolve around the books. Pay attention because she uses class conversation and lectures on the exams.
One of the nicest, funniest teachers. She's very kind-hearted and calm. She doesn't lecture a lot with powerpoints.. She talks a lot and tells a lot of stories, but don't take advantage by skipping class! I truly learned a lot from her. The only difficult part was this interview project maybe, but that turned out not to be too hard actually.
Professor Reed may get off topic sometimes, but her class was a piece of cake. Native American Experience was an interesting class. I studied well and read the material. She has you take two midterms and a final (Final was online) and an easy paper which was based on one of two novels. I recommend her. She will help you!
Her lectures seem to drag on and a lot of the time she does not actually teach according to the course. She tends to talk more about personal story and her life being Native American, which is still interesting. Her tests are based off of what she says in class and the movies we watch. She has books for you to read but I passed without reading.
There's no doubt Professor Reed is a sweet woman. However, her lectures go off topic way too often and I found that going to class was pointless because her stories don't always have to do with the class. 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 Interview report. She takes attendance but it isn't mandatory to go to class. If you don't go, you'll still pass.
Professor Reed is one of the bestest and funniest professors. She's is very nice and kind. Her lectures are more like stories and really interesting to hear. Was one of the easiest Classes i ever tooken. She only has two mid terms and a online final. You'll pass the class with no problems just attending it and paying attention. Would def take again
Professor Reed is excited all the time to lecture about her Native American Experiences. For our class, there were 2 midterms in class, part multiple choice part essay. A research paper about 7 pages long which was easy. The final was online all multiple choice. Your grade can be higher if you show up to class because it is part of your grade.
Mrs. Reed is such a fun teacher. All of her projects are easy to pass as long as you do them. Her tests (including the final) do include a ton of questions from her personal life... So listen up for what she says about her family. Besides that, if you show up and do your work, you should pass.
I really enjoyed taking her class. She was super fun, positive, and energetic. The midterm are multiple choice. Even if you just scribble down notes that can help you for the Final. She does go off track every now and then. But she's so entertaining it never bothered me.
Prof Reed is great! She cares about students and knows what she is talking about! I am taking her again!
Another word of advice: In her 151 class we watched Where the Spirit Lives. On the test she just gave us names of characters (with no context), which apparently we were expected to remember, and wanted us to write about them. Me and many others wrote about the teacher instead of the right character as we did not recall the names & lost points. -_-
Loved this class! Completely available during office hours. Interesting content. Shares stories in class relevant to course material. As students sometimes experience unexpected events, Dr Reed had a few which may have impacted her ability to be prompt with grading, etc. However, she was more than fair in being flexible as a result. Recommend.
Prof Reed is great. Shares information that helps one understand the content. A little quirky at times, but this is what makes her real and down to earth. Lots of reading, but doable and short novels. She likes to show films, share stories. Some of this info will show up on exams so go to class! Takes roll daily. Pretty easy going/easy grader
All of the material that we received in this course was thoroughly covered with discussion guides, ppt, lectures. Skyped interview with an author of a book we reviewed/were tested was very cool. I really enjoyed Dr Reeds stories - gave life to the class/material. Only critique - slow response time grading exams & papers.
She is a great prof! She cares about students. She did mess up on part of one exam but she made up for it for all. I liked the way she told stories that we would not read about. It helped make the materials more alive. If I were not graduating, I would take another class from her. She is the best!
She was a great person, not as great of a professor. I did learn a bit, but it was just a GPA booster. She assigns 4 papers at 5% each20, the rest is based off pretty easy quizzes and 2 Exams50%. Very easy to pass, do go to class though. She gives a lot of info from her personal life on exams/quizzes. This is an interesting class though. EASY A
The class and prof was great! She did require reading and attention to class lectures and discussions, since they would be on the tests. Prof Reed gives examples that helped me understand more. She knows a lot. I am in another class from her right now. I plan on one in fall too. She is really interesting.
Dr Reed is a prof tells stories that are funny. She has extra credit so that if you don't do as good on a test it can make up for it. I want to take another class from her, but graduating this spring. She goes over test topics thoroughly.
Great story teller, shares inspirational life lessons
Watched a couple movies & films, which I enjoyed & some were funny! Quite a bit of reading, PDF form, no books required! 2 tests, mainly about the movies /characters/& the stories she talks about in class. Extra credit on them too, only 23-26 q's, & 3 short answers. About 3, 2 pg reflection papers, easy grader tho! Overall great class! EASY A!
Took her summer class She is very strict with cell phones, wont let you got on your phone at all. Loves to go off topic and talk 1 online quiz, 2 online tests, 3 papers and participation. She is a pretty easy grader, long lectures, tests and quiz are from lectures, power points, and books NO WHERE ELSE. Take her if you need to if not try to avoid.
Goes off subject a lot and expects you to be ready for the test and know all the information from the notes, even thoe she hardly does any lectures. Furthermore she rushes you to learn the subject fast when the test day comes around the corner. She doesnt provide any study guide
I took the class just for requirements and ended up liking the class! She made the time go by. The tests were on what we went over. I liked her stories! She made the class fun. I am taking her again in the spring.
Dr. Reed cares about the topics and students. A friend told me to take the class and I did. Great prof!
She does care about students and knows her subject. I wish I could take another class from her but graduating
First of all, she's nice. Other than that, her "lectures" are just random stories from her life. One irrelevant story leads to another, and another. Going to her class is a major waste of time, yet attendance is 10% of your grade. You can ace the exams and papers by just reading the given material. I would NEVER take her again.
I took the Ethn 100 this summer. She is a nice professor and knows her material. I had to talk with her outside of class and she made sure we had time to meet. I want to take another class from her if it fits my schedule.
A student is lucky to know Dr. Reed, let alone take her class (UC Berkeley professor). If you want to know about Native Americans and have a life changing experience, then read the books she assigns and attend extra credit opportunities. This will make writing essays and writing for exams much easier. This is one of the best classes I have taken.
Great prof and class! She was my best prof! I will take classes from her in the future.
Dr. Reed knows a lot about Native Americans. She made it real not just book stuff. I want to take another class but can't cause going to graduate.
I took the Summer class. Im never taking a summer class again. Professor Reed is a great professor, yet she talks about her husband alot. She tries to stay on topic, but other times it seems random. Be prepared to read and she would rarely talk about it yet your 3 essays will be on the readings.
Best Prof ever! She cares about students and the class. I stayed interested because she made it fun. Thanks Dr. Reed!
It's been a couple of years that I took this class and I still remember her lectures. She is very inspirational and her storytelling keeps students attentive to the class. She is by far the best professor I've taken my freshman year of college and made college a fun experience. Take the extra credit she offers. Books are easy to read. class is fun.
It was a crazy semester with the virus. I went to meet with her on Zoom and she was clear. I felt better after talking with her. She further explained expectations. She is one of my favorite profs.
Dr. Reed used videos and discussions to enhance her material. There were few lectured that she posted because most of the material came from the videos of books. There was a lot of reading involved but all the books we read were eyeopening and interesting. She gives great feedback and it is clear that she wants her students to succeed.
This was not a hard class by any means. However, this professor is extremely unprofessional. She refused to respond to emails, put out assignments late, and hardly graded any of our assignments. This might be ok during regular semesters, but it was a nightmare for summer when everything is so condensed.
although the material was relatively easy, take if you enjoy: - duplicated questions - repeated and unclear topics - terrible class layout and assignment formatting - minimal communication - inconsistent due dates and grading
Most unorganized professor yet. Assignments weren't unlocked until the middle of the week, allowing only 3 days to complete. She would go MIA for a whole week and then post some message on the weekends telling us that homework was now unlocked. Easy grader, but if you're fine with reading a book and walking blind through assignments then do it.
I decided to take this course for the summer and man did I regret it but I did pass. Dr. Reed is such a nice lady but she was very disorganized and all over the place. She was always putting assignments very last minute and with a couple day due date. She went MIA for a bit and then all of a sudden expected us to turn in all types of assignment.
I took this course over the summer as well. I was appalled at the rampant cheating and the collusion of the students in the 'groupme' server for this class. They all got together and decided to leave horrible ratings for this professor because she was out due to personal issues. She's an amazing professor as you can see from previous reviews.
I have a ton of respect for Dr. Reed. She has gone above and beyond to help me with my studies. I take every class that I can with her.
Professor Reed is a very nice person, but an awful professor. She is always late, and extremely forgetful. She doesn't post assignments, then randomly springs an exam on her students. I think she isn't fit for teaching anymore, and her unprofessionalism is extremely frustrating. Do not take her.
Class is pretty easy, but is unstructured. She might change the dates put on syllabus and won't even announce the changes. Outdated syllabus. We had the first midterm and she didn't even put an announcement out a day before for the exam. One upside is that the class is really easy.
