excellent in all ways
Really enthusiastic about the class. Her tests are a little hard even when she goes over what will be on them. Most of the class was averaging C's or D's. If you study hard or this stuff comes easy to you, you can receive an A or B. Good luck.
Hard tests, trick questions.
She is truly awesome and cares about her students. I recommend taking more thank one class with her. Way to go Anni!
This instructor is from Danmark. She is very nice but sometimes hard to understand. She loves to talk like a highschooler. Overall her class tests are hard, since she likes to use both the book, her own course reader and the notes(provided).
Class is not a sociology class, it is a psychology class. If you are looking for a class about adolescent psychology, this is a challenging but interesting class, if you are like me looking for a Sociology class, then I would pass on it.
Although the tests are somewhat challenging, overall the class is very informative and interesting. She is very good at relating the material to experiences that the students are likely to relate to.
This teaher is one to experience. She is from Europe and brings in a worldly view to every issue. She is someone that will invoke great classroom disussion, and will make you think. The tests are somewhat hard, but she does offer a paper that is an easy A, plus some extra credit. Mostly B's.
Great teacher. very kind. hard tests but if you're there all the time, you're good.
Really great! Made the class interesting and she kept me awake(which is a hard thing to do)! Tests are a bit challenging but the information is all there in the class.
She's such a cute lady, her accent too. Her personality makes you excited about the class. She is very helpful and gives test reviews during her office hours. She's a great professor!
Best teacher ever! If you go to class,(which isn't hard b/c she makes it so fun) and GO TO TEST REVIEW before class on test day, guaranteed A or B on the test. Wish I could take her for a third time. Her accent is awesome and she really cares about the student. if you don't get an easy B in the class something is wrong with you. She kicks ass!

What a joy! I've taken a number of classes with this prof. and would highly reccommend all of them. She's Danish and her discussions of Denmark's sociological and governmental phenomena were so enthrawling that I actually visited the country last summer.
awww i loved this lady she was a wonderful teacher...cares about her students...cute denmark accent...very fair grader too, not a hard class as long as you go and do the work....don't remember there being a lot of work either
Anni Is the best! She was my favorite teacher at ASU! Take her class, you won't be disappointed.
She's so cute and sweet but can be demanding. Overall fair though.
awesome!!
Great professor, has an accent but she's so enthusiastic about what she teaches, you can't help but be happy to learn. I took her SOC 101 class, and it was fun and easy. She's highly educated and when we have class discussions (almost every class), she's very knowledgable in all fields. Highly recommended!
She is the best professor. Test answers come straight from her notes and she gives you exact questions from the exams a week before you take it. Go to class! Lots of people thought they could pass the class by reading the book but that's not the case she takes everything from her lecture notes and movies. An easy A if you show up!
She's adorable, taking her class helped me decide on changing my major to sociology. She's very interesting, educated and fun.
easy class. she loves talking about doobies...haha. she's halarious.
I freekin loved her. She was my favorite teacher after the first week!!!
I agree with everyone else: Anni is awesome. Nice lady, cares about her students, is enthusiastic about the material, talks about drinking and smoking doobies all the time. I took her for 466 and not gonna lie, it wasn't the easiest class. Go to every class and make sure you know the overheads for tests. Don't buy the book- we never used it
no, she is not hot, shes old, and her accent is very strong. hard to understand. you'll have to do more than just go to class to get an A. all she does is lecture, show movies, and try to start discussions by asking "what do yoooo think?"
took her Sociology of Adolescence class, and loved it. I went to class every day and enjoyed the lectures and material. It was interesting and she knew her stuff but was also just so funny in her class discussions.
AMAZING! I attended every lecture, couldn't miss it because of how interesting it was! Make sure to not miss out on the study guides! The exams will be the exact same thing!
hated this class
is tough, but fair. She makes the lectures interesting & actually has a sense of humor. Cares about you s a person & student when you see her during office hrs. Will gladly re-explain topics you don't understand in class.
She cant stop talking about doobies...she is ok, but asks us what we think too much!! The tests are kind of tricky, make sure you go to the class before the exam, she doesnt post study guides and blackboard! Also, make sure you can write fast, all her study guides are given orally and at a very fast rate.
Its a nice class because she only gives 3 tests all year and she has extra credit quizzes which can turn a C into an A on each test. The only problem is that she asked for your oppinion and you have to sit in class and listen to your other class mates argue with each other about dumb sh*t. Tests are tricky but ok.
She is a very kind and caring professor. Her tests are a bit tricky, but the amount of extra credit she gives makes up for it. Extra credit is in the form of in-class quizzes testing you on material discussed just a few minutes before. She truly cares about her students and understands if you have issues with time or materials. Excellent Professor!
you have to go to class. her tests are hard and her study guides are given orally during class so go to her office before each exam to go over the study guide with her.. it is SOO helpful and you will get a much better grade.
What a ridiculous woman! The liberal nonsense that came out of her mouth made me want to puke. Sociology is an easy A and a major waste of time. Don't waste your money pursuing a degree in this garbage. Get a marketable skill in business, engineering, science.
Anni is an awsome teacher. She makes her lectures fun and interesting (like everyone else said, she talks about doobies a lot). Her tests can be hard at times but she gives you a oral study guide in which she reads off the test. She is very helpful, smart, and kind.
Only 3 tests, and they're all hard as ****.
This teacher is fun, but really she likes to study the class arguments over teach. The overheads she gives are about all she expects you to learn, but the tests are nothing like them... so you have to listen to every little thing she says (which means take notes or her every word).
TERRIBLE!! What a load of crap. She was impossible to understand and she didn't know what she was even talking about most of the time. Complete liberal nonsense. Dont do it!!!!
interesting topics that she picks. she's really nice but kinda hard to understand cause she's from another country. dont be afraid to ask questions or anything.
she is the best teacher that I have had at ASU. Totally inspired me. If you go to class the test wont be too hard.
Anni is a wonderful professor! I've taken her a few times. This class was very difficult. It was a lot to remember, but Anni is always there to help when needed. She doesn't require a book for this class, theres not much reading involved. Make SURE you show up for class to take ALL the quizes and use flash cards for the tests, then you'll do fine.
good class
Loves to listen and interact with discussions during class but if I ever hear, "So, what do you think?" one more time, I'm going to die. Her tests are very confusing and her classes are liberal bs. Attending class is optional, notes are posted on BB, but it's her world and she makes the rules.
I took three classes from Anni because she is one of the best prof.s at ASU! Makes class discussions intersting and entertaining! She is hilarious and wants her students to questing society. I will miss her!
for soc of adolescence it was an interesting topic & learned a lot towards my psychology major. i recommend tho NOT BUYING ANY BOOKS for this class never used em. all the slides & notes for tests & hw R in class or online. i wasnt there half the time & still gotta 'B'. oh & sit close so u can understand her european accent lol nice lady tho
Damgaard is awesome! Know the study guides inside and out, go to her office for study sessions before the test and you can get a 100 percent on every test! The class is interesting and great class discussions.
This professor is amazing. She is funny and very entertaining. I had no interest in this topic but it turned out to be my favorite class. Go to her office hours! She is very helpful
i absolutely hated this class because of the teacher. she doesn't speak clearly (german). and the tests are so hard. To do well.. attend the SI sessions, and try to pay attention to her terrible, long, boring lectures where she only reads off the overheads, and doesnt expand on anything at all. and always seems to ask.. what do you guys think?
This class was just blah to me. It was pretty hard and I wouldn't recommend it but I had to take it for my major. I also took SOC 312 with her and it's the same story.
She is so fun! I think she has a bright, enjoyable personality. I was worried at first because of her very thick accent, but I got past it. She truly enjoys what she's doing, which makes me want to learn the information as well. I'm doing well on the exams so far after making lots of flash cards. She likes to engage the class in discussions.
She is nice and fun. She gives out 3 tests which are kinda easy but tricky, and 3 papers. You can't get any extra points so do the extra credit. We also watch lots of movies and she always asks everyone for their opinion - kinda annoying. overall this class is easy if you show up and do good on the tests and you'll learn alot of interesting facts.
I had Anni for soc 312 (Sociology of Adolescence) and Soc 101 (Introductory Sociology) and I just adore her! She's easy to talk to and her review sessions are taken straight from the exam. She's the bees knees.
She's a good teacher, although her lectures can get a little boring. She always wants to know what you think, and nobody usually cares enough about the topic to talk. Tests are fairly easy, but can be a little bit unclear. You do need to show up to class in order to get a lot of the extra credit. After the extra credit, its an easy A.
The class is good to take if you need credit-hours and can't handle classwork. It could be summarized as "European Socialist Worldview" instead of sociology. It was boring, and Extra credit is plentiful and the tests are easy. Word of advice: don't bother buying the textbook if you intend on attending the lectures. It'd be a waste of money.
This teacher is barely understandable with her thick accent, also she tries to press her political views on her class. Also for the first two weeks it seemed like she was teaching a womens history class and not a sociology class.
Do not take this class. I thought Sociology 101 would be an easy class, but you cannot understand a word she says because of her danish accent. You do not get used to it and the tests are hard and unrelated to material learned. I recommend taking a different teacher.
don't even bother going to class except for movies and her review sessions...so boring, but she is always willing to meet with students.
She's very friendly and interesting to listen to in class. The lectures aren't boring although they could be considering the material. The in class discussions are interesting. Just go over the notes before class and you'll be fine on the quizzes.
Anni was a wonderful teacher. She highly encouraged class discussion and would have great review sessions before tests. You dont really need the books, so save yourself some money at the bookstore! I'm taking SOC 483 with her next semester and hope it was as good as this!
Personally i did no care for this class. Her lectures are really boring, and sometimes hard to comprehend. The tests are difficult, make sure you are reading the book.
great professor. really very good. you can get through the class without reading any material and only attending class, although i would not recommend it. one of my favorite teachers at ASU. anni rocks
Daamgard is highly educated in several fields (Psychology, Sociology, and Medicine) and is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Warm, fun, and tells great, illustrative stories. A few tests and short papers on a couple movies. Most test questions are from lecture. Fascinating class (had her for soc of adolescence) and I recommend her fully!
Personally, best professor at ASU to date! Though challenging with her lectures, quizzes/test are a breeze if you at least go to class & review some notes. She's sincerely passionate about what she teaches & will be one of those classes you remember for years to come!
She is an okay professor..but she is such an airhead. Talks about the "horrors" of organic food when she clearly knows nothing about it. She should stick to what she knows...Freudian B.S. However, easy class. Easy A. I never attended.
Online class also FAC431. Anni Damgaard gives you 2 days to do the quizzes. Blackboard was down and she still wouldn't let me get an extension. Her response was: Sorry, it was up and running after midnight...ARE YOU KIDDING ME! My B went to an E!
GREATTTTT PROFESSOR! She's amazing and helpful! Her accent and grooviness and doobies.
Easiest class ever. I went for the first 5 weeks and never showed up again. The quizzes were still easy. Never opened the book either. Just learn what the different theories are on the broadest level.
I took the online class. There is a lot of reading to do, and theres a quiz every week. The quizes are the majority of your grade, and are pretty detailed questions. You have to read the chapters (which are each about 30 pages long) in order to get a good grade on the quiz.
Awful teacher. Does not explain the material well, and is completely biased. Dont take a class with her if you want to learn facts instead of her opinion.
At first she was overwhelming, but she is brilliant. She knows what she is teaching and encourages students to participate, which helps you understand even more. Attendance isn't mandatory but I don't suggest you miss because so much is covered in each lecture, which is important because there isn't really a textbook.
I was not completely satisfied with this professor. Damgaard considered "outlines" to be lectures & the quizzes were kind of difficult. I received a B in FAS 431 so her class was maintainable but in my opinion, there just wasn't enough interesting material. The class was based on 1 dry textbook & 1 discussion board post.
Took the class online for an easy grade. Asks the hardest questions on the quizzes. Chapters take 2 hours to read. If you don't do the discussion board earlier than 2 days before its due you get an automatic C. Posts the syllabus as an announcement so the formatting is horrible and a pain to access. She does not care.
No help at all and her TA's are totally worthless. She didn't have a rubric for grading papers but would give low scores. Wording on her quizzes is totally different from what she has you study and what you think is common sense answer is not answer.....Online class was crap
Took this class to get an easy A or B and am probably gonna get C unless she curves, the quiz questions were ridiculous, 15 questions in 15 minutes, yea i read all the chapters necessary and still struggled on most quizzez the only ones i did good on were common sense, she needs to realize that most people are taking this class to get an easy grade
She is the best professor ever! Most free spirited lady and very passionate!!! You will love her class and her!!!!
Very disappointed. Class had 10 quizzes, 1 syllabus quiz (syllabus was posted as announcement not a doc.-very disorganized) 1 paper with no requirements but everyone got a bad grade (don't know how) and 1 think piece. I ended with a B+ but it took a lot. Could have been great if directions and requirements were more clear and prof./TA's were avail
Insanely hard class. You can only earn 100 points so don't miss any. She loves her opinions and encourages class discussion. Students don't know the material so class was painfully useless and boring. Nice lady but I'd rather learn material then hear her opinions (of material she didn't teach) and the dumb students opinions. BAD CLASS DON'T TAKE!
I took this class in Fall 2008 as a night class. Usually the first half of class was lecture, and the second half was a movie. There's a lot of reading involved. She would tell you exactly what you needed to know for the exams-read directly off of the exam-the class before the exam. Pretty easy class.
I took this class online. EXTREMELY HARD! A quiz directly out of the book every week and quiz questions are random, unimportant and difficult. DO NOT TAKE W/A FULL LOAD! Chapters are long! She took and interesting subject and made it boring for me! In a nut shell... NO WAY JOSE!
She's a pretty good teacher. She knows the material very well and is fairly good at making it interesting. Some of the questions on the quizzes were worded in a way that made the answer unclear, but other than that, the class was easy. She also offers a ton of extra credit and is definitely willing to help you out if you ask for it.
This Prof is tough! She might be easy for soc101 but every prof is easy for a no brainer course. Quiz every week form the book and questions are wordy! Chapters are long and take 2-3 hours to read. Not many assignments so you must do well on a 15question quizes while chapters are HUGE! I won't be taking her again!
WARNING: Do NOT take her class if you are conservative! Her quizzes often reflect her opinion and she is very liberal! I enjoyed her class, she really knew her stuff. She tries to get people to participate through group discussions but it's usually the same people every time. The videos are interesting, by the end of the course you should have an a
Not sure how anyone could manage an A in her class? She force feeds statical jargin into our heads, doesnt grade failry on DB, and gives a chapter quiz ever week that is tough. Overall her teaching style sucks, the material is cool but you have to teach it to yourself, and goodluck! This class is too time consuming. 1 word... RUN
I would say these postings of her are pretty accurate. She is evil as a teacher and ruining my 4.0 GPA! I am taking her now and i wish someone would have told me about her before i took her! This class is frustrating and time consuming. If you have no other classes it would still be awful! AVOID HER CLASS AT ALL COSTS! SAVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH!
Sociology of Adolecence with Damgaard is hands down one of the best classes I took at ASU. The environment was equal, and she really did a great job with the material. The class was three hours long, but I WANTED to go and stay the whole time. Take her, even if you aren't a Soc major/minor. Shes amazing and so intelligent!
The class should be easy. However she makes it unclear and constantly dodges students' clarification questions. Seems like a nice lady but her tests and quiz questions are subjective and feel like there could be many answers to what should be a straight-forward question. I have a great GPA and probably expecting a c+/b- in her class, don't take!
She seems like a cool lady, but 3 hours with her sucks muffins. The class is too opinionated, somewhat unclear, and quizzes can be tricky. Work load is average. Somewhat helpful in office hours.
everyone says how easy this class is... it's not. she doesn't teach facts, she just teaches her opinion. her quizzes are filled with questions that have multiple answers that are correct. she has a thick accent and she is impossible to reach. the only thing that i can understand her say is, "what do yoooooooooooou think?". NOT helpful.
Very interesting class. Quizes are way too hard. If you think you got 100 percent on a quiz you probably got 50 percent. Quizes are based on lectures, not lecture notes. So pretty much whatever you remembered or wrote down anything that she said. Socialist and very opionated. Likes to put down America in comparison to Scandenavia.
She is overly opinionated, and goes on tangents. Grade is based on 15 quizzes per week which are overly hard, timed, and half of the questions have nothing to do with the lecture, but need to go to the lecture to get the other half right, pretty much based on luck. I don't recommend her at all. I got an A but it was awful.
I don't understand why so many students are surprised that they have to READ THE BOOK. Isn't that generally an expectation? Great teacher, class is easy if you read the material and put effort into the quizzes.
Such an awesome class! I took it online! quiz every week thats it!!! Super easy bc she gives you a study guide! She even helped me get into an Honors society! AKD I love this woman and class and am taking again!
Was truly engaging in the discussion. No doubts about her mastery of the subject. Made me much more interested in the material with her enthusiasm. A+ doobie-talk
I am taking the online version of FAS 431/ SOC 312 and from some of the previous comments I was nervous about taking the class, even if it was online. I was very surprised! The class is very straight forward, all the quizzes are from the the text book and from lecture notes...do the work and you'll pass easy!
I dropped 483...She is ridicules...her questions do not make any sense..half of the stuff she didn't even go over. Then she is completly bias to everything...She says " Groovy" and "orgy" way too much. I dropped after asking her a question, and she couldn't even answer it!! Don't take the class...most boring class ever.
people complain way too much about having to actually crack open their books and read. what is the point in goign to college if you aren't going to read the material?!?!? people seem to be getting lazier and lazier with high expectations every year. THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL, BUCK UP
I can not believe that I have learned nothing in this class. I have been told from so many people that soc is the most interesting class they have taken. I can not stand this class; "doobie" and "groovy" are the only words i catch, and her quizzes are ridiculous. Thankfully I took them all with my friends...DONT TAKE!
This class is so interesting. She has a think accent, but she posts slides on the screen so it is easy to take notes. One lecture day a week, and the other is a movie day. Only grades are weekly quizzes online. Sometimes the quizzes can be tricky, but the class is overall fairly easy, and extremely interesting.
I love Anni, and Im a LAZY STUDENT, But I got an A! You will have to read a little bit but she gives you a study guide so you will at least know what to read. No tests, No papers just a little quiz over the weeks reading and they are EASY! easy A and she is really smart!
Took this class and absolutely hated it. I'm not lazy and am a straight A/B student. If you aren't a strong test taker, don't even try it. The class is based off online quizzes alone. Hated it. My friend dropped to save his GPA. Wish I did the same.
RIDICULOUS.got an A.Her quizzes were not relevant to the notes in class. Literally had to self teach. Talks about her smoking 'dubies'.Textbook was no help.Had an extra credit assignment and failed to give me credit because she 'lost it' after she said she was weeding out A+s.she knew I was going to get an A+ and screwed me over. BAD. Don't take.
she suxs. no study guide. irrelevant notes. bad style of teaching. blabs on for entire class. and like person said below takls about smoking dubies n how everything is grovie. don't take this class. really screwed up my first semester gpa becz of her stupidity and being unabale to teach a class. she needs to freakin leave. horrible. take someone el
Grade is based off 15, 15-question on-line quizzes that she releases on thursdays, attendance is not mandatory but she goes over some of the stuff on the quiz on thursdays. She is energetic, loves her subject and is very clear and engaging, despite her accent. Got a 104% and you can too if you go to class, refer to the book and take decent notes.
Honestly, this was one of the easiest classes ever. The answers to her quizzes are in the handouts she goes over in class and the handouts are posted online. On Thursdays, she gives out some answers to the quizzes, you can even take them together with friends. People on my floor also had her and we took turns going to class. I got an easy 96%!
i liked the prof. but the grading system kinda sucked. 15 quizzes 15 ?'s ea. if u miss 2 on each quiz, thats a B! so unless youre really good at quizzes its pretty hard to get an A. Didnt use the book really, just took notes in class. If you refer to the book, should be able to get those extra 2 ?s that always seemed irrelevant to the weeks subject
I've taken Intro to Sociology before and Aced it but I took this class and nearly failed...I missed 4 quizzes. Honestly I would have rather had exams than 15 quizzes. I hated this class; Damgaard is super opinionated. She spends 3/4 of the class talking about random stuff and then tries to squeeze in the actual material...which isn't on the quiz.
All of the answers for the quizzes I got from the text book, and I took thorough notes...not helpful! The only part of the lecture that helped was when Damgaard reviewed test questions at the end of the video lectures.
I am a sophomore and a good student and this hands down is the worse professor I have ever had. all the "lecture notes" are are in online overheads, and not all the overheads shown in class are online. test has nothing to with anything covered in class. awful. do not take this professor. I can't even tell you how bad she is.
She has a pretty heavy accent but she is a nice lady and the class is really easy. Its just 1 quiz a week, no final and whatever you do do not buy the book you wont need it
I don't understand people,Damgaard is one of my favorite professors. She is so sweet and you can tell she's passionate about the subject.1 quiz a week which was NOT hard and going to her office hours, she will gladly help you get an A.Just print out the lecture notes and GO to lecture;not that hard.
Terrible hands off teacher. This teacher test on irrelevant subject matter and then has students relate this useless subject matter to even more worthless movies i.e. The Breakfast Club. The book contained lots of useful and worthwhile material which was never covered and in my opinion, downright ignored. This professor's aids, who do all the work,
She has a bit of an accent, but is easy enough to understand. She has one online quiz a week, and they're pretty easy if you pay some attention. She has a bit of a feminist opinion, and despite moving to the US to teach, doesn't care too much for democracy. Regardless, this class is pretty easy. She's not the most exciting, but she isn't bad.
She is kinda funny but a terrrrrible class. Do not take her if you can avoid it. Her notes are all over the place her online quizzes sometimes are from what you learned sometimes it is something you never learned. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
Damgaard is a very passionate teacher. SOC483 is her favorite class to teach and to which I don't doubt -- interesting topics. Go to class, she's worth it. Only quizzes, no hw assignments and all exams are easy if you read all handouts and attend class. She has made me want to take all of her classes. Her accent is hilarious, very intelligent aswel
She is an amazing teacher. She has a light accent. her quizes are extremely easy, she gave us 96 hours to do them. She does go on tangents, but they are extremely relvent to the topic at hand. the most important thing to remember is karl marks model. the only time i got anything wrong on my quizes is when i came into class late.she stresses theory.
She is a great teacher and loves the subject. Grade is made up of quizzes taken online which are pretty easy as long as you attend lecture. Would definitely take this course again!
Great course content. However, the professor was sometimes difficult to understand, and the material covered on the course quizzes (which are not difficult, just not clear) contain various answers that are vague and answers can interchangeable with more than one answer option. The TA is not all that competent, and rather unhelpful.
Awesome professor!! So funny and interesting. Really loves her students and she is so smart. I look forward to this class every week.
I started this semester with an 4.3 GPA and due to this course it will not stay that way. I took her because i was told that the class was super easy...but its NOT. I attended class every week and found that the 15 quizzes that make up your entire grade are loosely based on what is taught, and very poorly written. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! i mean it
The quizzes are extremely vague. Even taking notes and attending lectures, I got mostly 13/15 on quizzes. She also has a thick accent. Sweet lady, but horrible teacher and die-hard socialist.
The lectures may seem dull at time but show up to understand the quiz topics. Her quizzes are very easy if you pay attention and take good notes when she gives out "hints" at the end of her classes.
She has a very thick accent and it is hard to understand her. She tells you some of the questions that will be on the quiz which helps but the quizzes are poorly written. Make sure you know the material.
If you start out bad on the quizzes it is impossible to recover. On top of that she is a hard core socialist/communist and believes that her ideas are correct and everyone else?s is evil. The 15 quizzes are difficult to understand and you are better off on Google then the text book. I would not recommend taking this class.
She is a complete socialist and finds ways to make conservative capitalists look evil, but the class is very easy and she is "groovy" (you will understand if you take the class). Things to know: Dont buy any of the books cus if you go to every class, you will never need them and she watches movies alot! Easy class and teacher.
She is a communist. Kind of annoying to listen to her hate on America, but class is all online quizzes once a week. And you watch movies
She is a really funny teacher. I would recommend her. The only grade is online quizzes which if you read the book and watch the movies that are every other class then you are fine. Barely went to lectures and still did good. This class is fun and she does joke a lot and connects with students
Pretty easy class if you go to class you should be able to get an a or a b. She plays a lot of movies which arent to bad. Its hard to understand her accent at first but after a little bit it isnt to bad. You dont need the book if you go to class but if you dont want to go to class just read the chapter. Only grade is 15 online quizzes.
This class isn't bad, although the professor is a little hard to understand. She also has quizzes your required to take every weekend, I'm not sure where she pulls the questions from seeing as how I struggle with them every week. Overall not that bad of a class though.
Dr. Damgaard has an accent that is occasionally a little difficult to understand, but she always gets her point across. The class is really easy--just attend lectures (she shows a video one day a week) and take notes. The only grade is 15 online 15-question multiple choice quizzes that she gives the answers to in her notes. Do not buy the textbook.
Really knows what she is talking about, and her lectures can be interesting. I took her 101 course and LOVED it. However this course only has 120 points total, and missing points on quizzes can really hurt your grade. Also some of the questions on the quizzes were very confusing
Smart lady with a good personality, but if you are not a good test-taker, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER!!! She literally has no assignments and your final grade is 100% based off your test grades. I am a terrible test-taker and have never passed any of her classes the first time. Also, test questions/answers make no sense whatsoever.
I took the class online, and the grade was based on 15 lecture quizzes. The book is obviously mandatory. The quizzes were pretty easy, if one actually engages in the reading. With that being said the quizzes did and did not really follow along with the correlating chapters.
The professor is difficult to understand. She is not very helpful when it comes to students problems she just blows them off. The quizzes are extremely difficult even while reading the book or following along from the lecture notes. Take a different professor if one is available!
Her grade is based off 15, 15 questions quizzes. I had her Tuesday and Thursday. So the Tuesday class was lecture and Thursday we would watch a movie that involved the concepts we just learned. She posted her lecture slides on line so it really wasn't necessary to go to class. Use the review page at the end of the chapters and watch the movies.
The class i was in was a M/W format. Mon. was the lecture and Wed. was a movie. There was no reason to go on Mon. and most often I didn't, she lectured right off the powerpoints and is not the best speaker. It is worth your while to go on Wed. though because the quiz is mostly on the movies and at the end she hints about the quiz.
A 100-level class should not be this difficult. The ONLY thing you get points for is quizzes. There are 15 hard quizzes during the entire semester and that is it. No other assignments and she gave us one extra credit opportunity @ the end of the semester. DO NOT RECOMMEND. The semester is over and I feel like I have learned nothing.
Amazing teacher, would definitely have again. No communication problem at all, at least give her a chance. Brilliant teacher.
15 online quizes with 15 multiple choices questions. First day of lecture in the week is notes, second day is a video and at the end she gives sample questions- WRITE THEM DOWN! The questions she gives are always on the quiz. Super easy! Extra credit quiz at the end to gain back the few points you loose for weird wording on other quizzes. GROOVY!
Professor Damgaard is so groovy! She is very intelligent and knows a lot about sociology. Often hard to understand her though, but she is a brilliant professor.
I always sleep in her class, and it's the only class I've ever done that in. I have an A still. It's 15 online quizzes, that's it. Open note. It's very boring. And there's extra credit.
This lady is not helpful at all. Do not expect anything from her. The class is super easy. But like I said, she is the problem.
Easy class. One day is lecture, the next is video and at the end she'll give you hints to answers on the quizzes. 15 quizzes and then a few extra credit quizzes instead of class on select weeks. Lectures days can get boring, but as long as you go on the day of the video you'll be fine (thats when she gives out quiz hints!)
This class is a complete waste of time. DO NOT TAKE
Although she is a fun teacher that has an awesome accent sometimes she starts getting off task. She doesn't explain things that well and sometimes the quiz questions can be really confusing. The whole class is based on 15 quizzes so if you screw up a few times your grade drops. The second day of lecture you always watch a movie, sometimes good.
Shes one of the best professors @ ASU! Shes extremely smart funny & her lectures are interesting. I learned so much in her class, its changed my life. I took SOC483 as a first year & got an A. The exams were hard but if u study theres no way u cant get an A on the tests. Ppl who say shes a bad professor probably didnt study & did bad in the class.
Super fun teacher that has an awesome accent sometimes. She is the THEORY QUEEN so know the theories she gives and you will do fine! The quiz questions can be really confusing! The class is based on 15 online quizzes. No final. The first day of lecture is a lecture and the second day you always watch a movie. GREAT PROFESSOR. TAKE HER CLASS! :)
She's a sweet lady and very straightforward about the curriculum and what will be on the quizzes. It definitely pays to attend lectures even if they are not mandatory because in them she says nearly everything that you will be quizzed on.
She's a sweet and charismatic lady. Your grade is based off weekly quizzes from the lecture. I've had her for two classes, the first I found to be very straightforward. However, for whatever reason SOC 483 lectures didn't seem to line up with quizzes well.
Class starts off super easy but picks up quickly so don't skip class! If you fall behind, office hours definitely helps! Plus Damgaard is interesting, intelligent, and fun to talk to. She will try to get to know you as a person, which can lead to some great discussions. I learned as much, if not more from those as I did from class itself.
GREAT TEACHER! At first i didn't like her because she had a thick accent and I couldn't understand her, but after awhile I got use to her. Every week you have a quiz consisting 15 questions and a total of 15 of them. You have 2 chances for extra credit. I recommend her class, it was super easy and interesting! Not to mention her sense of humor!
Very easy class as long as you understand the main theories. One day is a lecture going over a certain topic and how each theory pertains to it, the other is a video that reinforces the lesson. Attendance not mandatory, but will help. No textbook. Extra credit offered. Would recommend if you need an easy class for GPA boosting or as a requirement.
LOVE HER!!! There are 15 quizzes total, one per week. They are based partly on her lectures and partly on the videos related to the lectures. She gives you two chances to earn 5 points extra credit. The lectures are kind of boring at times, but she's so cute and funny so it's okay. She talks about doobies daily. I loved her!!
Says doobies and groovy more than any other words. All lectures are posted online and the 15 quizzes are online. Work in a study group to take the quizzes. Take notes whenever she talks about the theories and when she goes over quiz questions after the movie. Extra credit offered The class is boring but if you can endure it, it is an easy A class.
Didn't enjoy the class at all. 15 quizzes all online which was nice, allowed you to take them in groups. Clarity isn't good and some quiz questions are written terribly. Funny lady, says "groovy" and "smoke a doobie" all the time. Attend class and you'll know some of the quiz questions. I googled them half the time. Uninteresting class overall.
I finally figured out how to pass all the quizzes after failing the first few; Pay attention to the videos and write down the questions at the end. Don't read the text, just switch to "study" mode and read all that once or twice. Then, Read over her lecture overhead. Take quiz. I wish i figured this out sooner. Could have been an easy A.
Went to class 1 time and got an A...
Poorly structured class. Lecture notes consisted of one-page word documents she wrote. Errors in her quizzes will hurt your grade if you do not dispute it with her during office hours. Not helpful or accommodating to "online-only" needs in any way. Still an easy A/B.
Very poor guidance given for assignments, and don't expect a clear rubric or feedback. Will give poor grades for well written assignments if they rely on any subtext or critical thinking on the reader's part. You must write very simplistically for her.
The instructor is clear about expectations for class. Book is extremely boring; chapters are approx. 30pgs per chapter. Content in chapters covers topics from multiple angles resulting in many contradictions against purported evidence. Tests are near impossible to get 100% on. Take this class only if absolutely needed.
This teacher is so unclear all her quizzes are online you'll put in an answer from the lecture overhead and it will be wrong on the discussion boards you HAVE to do two responses or you get 0 credit yeah she says groovy and doobies a lot but it gets old and she rambles on about stuff I just don't understand
Weekly quizzes that are relatively difficult. Two discussion boards due, professor was a difficult grader on those.
really unclear about what is going to be on the test. unsure of how exactly to do well in this class although some people pulled it off. scraping out with a C and it's my only one this semester. AVOID IF POSSIBLE
Easy B, difficult A. As a straight-A student, this class is extremely frustrating. Guidelines are unclear, quiz questions are poorly written, grades extremely hard on discussion board posts, not opened to critical thinking/criticism from students. She has a rather simplistic view on a subject matter that is extremely complex... Overall, DO NOT TAKE
DO NOT TAKE. I emailed her and received no replies. I emailed the TA over an unclear assignment due date and he brought more confusion. Missed the assignment, nothing I could do to make up for it. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.
I took this class and it was definitely easy. The grade is composed of discussion boards and quizzes. If you read the book, you will do well! Just be careful because the quizzes are 15 questions with only 30 minutes to complete. However, the professor is rude and very unhelpful. Be prepared for unanswered questions.
Class is based on 15 (10 question) quizzes and 2 discussion boards (& 1 extra credit opportunity the semester I took it). The discussion boards are fairly simple and lecture notes are provided for each quiz. Sometimes the lecture notes help, sometimes they dont. Quiz questions in relation to info from textbook can sometime be confusing also.
Basically carries an anti-capitalist bias and seems to go on and on about the evils of white males. It really wears thin after the fifth week of the same drivel. The fact that I skipped nearly 15 lectures and still received an A basically means that this class is only worth the letter grade, and all else is just so much shrill hand-wringing.
Such a sweet lady! Very interesting class. Fun videos watched in class. Gives you basically the answers to the quiz, just go to class and do your discussion boards and quizzes and you'll get an A.
Literally the worst soc class I've ever taken. She focuses on theories that are not clear and overall content is extremely dull. She also comes off a bit Judgement. Maybe it's bc she's a foreigner talking about Americans? Avoid this class altogether. Statements made about quizzes being unclear are true and the required text is awful.
Don't ever take this class. This class is just stupid. This professor doesn't even cover the stuffs that are on the weekly online quizzes. In class she doesn't even teach and she is just saying random stuff that she wants to say. The worst class and the worst professor.
Extremely subjective questions favoring the professors view on politics. Easy class her opinions are printed out and questions on the on line quizzes follow word for word. Its not hard to get an A+ just remember its not what you think its what she tells you.
She is a great teacher and tells you on the first day that this class can either be easy or hard depending on if you want to learn. She doesn’t believe in having every student spend the money on the book she instead posts everything you’ll need online. Very easy class if you’re willing to show up. I recommend taking her class.
Anni is my favorite professor of all time! She is clear and friendly. Her class is insightful and intriguing. She is the reason I took on Sociology as a second major. We've stayed good friends following her class. A class which, btw, teaches you more about yourself then you might expect. Take a class with this professor.
One of the best professors at ASU
My wife, my brother, and I all had classes with Professor Damgaard and to this day a lot of her lessons still stick with us. She taught me one of the most important lessons in studying sociology: "Who benefits?" She was so great for SOC101 that we all took multiple classes with her.
