its Connis, not Connick...anyway, you rock!
Love her. Nice. Fun. Study for the tests, kinda difficult. Fun class though
great teacher, clarity in lectures, very understanding
Very nice, study for test, fun teacher
tests are hard, but nicest lady, very understanding, watch lots of movies
Very clear lectures, funny, MUST READ to get an A
SO nice...very understanding. great teacher
No Comments
I love her!! she's the nicest lady! grades reasonably, makes class fun
Very funny and very nice Study for the tests though
HELLO?? It's not Connis or Connick! It's Conis!!
Fun teacher, but GCOM final bites! it's too hard to teach toward it, so study!!
wonderful teacher and person. go see her in office hours to just say hi and let her know who you are and she will certainly help your grade. i reccommend the class and teacher highly.
she's so sweet! very helpful and a reasonable grader. i enjoyed the class, she makes it fun. definately get her!
Annick is so sweet! Her class is awesome! We built lego houses once! Very easy to understand and very likeable. I also love her French accent!
Annick is awesome! She is funny and her class is fun to be in! We built lego houses the other day :) Take her class, you won't regret it! P.S. -> You've got to love her French accent, it's so cool!
She is a very nice, funny lady. I loved going to her class. Everyone has a good time while learning. It is not an easy A, you have to read and study, but the lectures are never boring in her class.
I LOVE HER! She made the classroom environment so great. Fun activities with legos and in groups. I am nervous about speeches, but she made it easy.
shes AWESOME
horrible grader....dont take this class, there are better gcom teachers out there.
Great teacher! Will help students. Keep lines of communication open and she'll be understanding of personal situations. She can be a hard grader but she is fair.
cool teacher, follow formulas cuz she's a strict grader
She is so cool! Her class was my favorite all semester! Lego houses, fun speeches... it's the best and so is she! She has the coolest French accent! :) The sweetest professor at JMU - take her class!!!
Great teacher, very helpful. Will meet with you outside of class and let you do speeches before the day, tell you everything good/bad, so you can do it better when you're graded on it. Smart - Figured out my GF was seeing someone else before I did.
WONDERFUL teacher! Nice, interesting, very funny. Just a nice lady in general. Her class is interesting and her exams are not that hard. Goes out of her way to help you and lets you practice your speeches for her the day before.
Hard Grader, if it's not perfect and exactly what she wants then expect a bad grade.
Very good teacher, very personable. Just do what she tells you to and you will have no problem. Quizes are really easy (even though they dont count) and her tests are just an extension. Read text and your fine, if not get a B.
I never did the reading and did fine on tests and quizzes. She is very warm and funny, and a generally nice person and good teacher. Her class feels a little like highschool, with the way it's organized, but I liked it. I'd take her again if I could.
She can be pretty funny in class. She gives chapter quizzes that only count if the whole class does really badly. She is a harsh grader when it comes to speeches but other than that her tests and the papers aren't too bad.
easy class if you do the reading.grades hard on speeches, tests are a sinch. slack class overall if you are satisfied with C's.
Very nice lady, helpful as well. However, she is a meticulous grader, nothing is good enough for her. Take this class you if wish to work your ass off in a GenEd class. Its interesting, but not worth the amount of work.
nice lady, but very unclear in lectures, and teaching style. dont bother preparing for speeches, bc your not going to get above a C.
avoid at all costs. While she is a nice person, she will never be happy with presentations. by far the most diff. gcom teacher.
Im a computer science major with a 3.9; i ended up doing more work in this class then any of my others, and barely pulled out with a b-. She nice, but not worth taking, when so many other teachers are available. Avoid her!!
Gcom class is a BS subject; the whole school realizes this…except Conis. She’s in obvious denial from the fact that she spent the better part of her life studying a subject, (whose information known by anyone with common sense) when she could’ve put her
find someone else!!!!

get another teacher
i have to agree with eveyone else. gcom is an easy A class, why take a teacher thats gunna make your life hell, just to get a C. Find another some one else.
teaches the class with an obvious chip on her shoulder. possibly bitter about the fact that no one in the school, incuding the prof's that teach it, take the "subject" seriously. has no prob throwing trick questions on exams.
I disagree with all these comments; she's absolutely wonderful and a very insightful professor. Makes it fun.
SPAWN OF SATAN! This class has been WAY harder than any gened should be, especially GCOM!Everything is due at the same time, she has very unrealistic expectations of presentations, tests are a bizzacth, tries to fail those she doesn't like.
she gives you notes in class on what is going to be on the test, true she is a hard grader but i found the subject interesting and useful.
I dont know what's wrong with those other ppl but she's a fantastic teacher. She goes over the quizes and tests if you ask her. She's not very strict about turning in things on the exact day it's due (I turned a paper in a week late.) Good teacher!
official devils spawn crying towels are available on the commons...all proceeds will go toward sad students who hate to work fund
Hard grader.. thought i was going to get an A, but definatly am not. tests are hard and papers are stpid and pointless. Not a fan
If you can't spell "definitely" you should not get an A in the first place. Top notch teacher. You will learn a lot. I'm actually considering majoring in communication! She's great!
THE BEST!
Anybody who will meet you on Sunday to go over materials can't be that bad. In fact, she does what she preaches: good listener, shows empathy, etc. Got a B, but I deserved it.
The class was interesting and she definitly knows her stuff. GO TO EVERY CLASS...she'll definitly help you get an A. She's fun, fair, and enthusiastic. You need to study, but the tests arent difficult. THere are 2 presentations. The class is worth it :)!
The class is VERY hard (pulled an all-nighter for the 2nd presentation) and Annick can be a little unwilling to answer questions. She is, however, an awesome lady with a no-holds-barred sense of humor and I would love to have her as a friend or mentor.
Plays favorites. Likes boot lickers and suckups. Get on her good side or you're history. Shouldn't be teaching unsupervised.
Prof Conis is AWESOME!She's really funny, plays good music and makes analogies to things relavant to us.She's willing to answer questions but if asked too many times tells u to ask another student.Plenty of time to do projects.Group tests.Really understanding of personal stuff.Take GCOM123 from her.
Great lady, fun class, lots of notes but they def helped for my public speaking. She really knows her stuff.
Her tests are totally worthless...she uses the "circle all the correct anwers below" format. The presentations suck to do and requires public speaking. I got 20 points off of my first presentation because I read off my notecards to often. So if you like memorizing speeches take this class! Good luck!
Her lectures are very boring as she just outlines what is in the book. While she is a very nice woman and is very helpful, the tests are pretty hard. They consist of multiple choice questions, where any number of answers could be correct - making it hard to study for. Alright class, nuetral stance.
she already hates you.
She's a nice lady, and class isn't bad, but the tests will kick you in the face. They're too hard, and this is coming from a student that actually read and studied.
The tests are hard. You have to study. BUT, she is really nice and tries hard to make the class bearable. Not a bad class.
I LOVE HER! She was my favorite prof. this semester. I don't understand some of the comments below. Sour grapes, no doubt. Did you all get an F? She doesn't require memorized speeches (hello!! Were you in class???)
Oh my gosh! I love this class! Mrs. Conis is an awsome professor!! I wish I could take this class again so I could have her again! Tests are kinda hard, but she can clear any questions that you have. She's the best, take her class!!!
The lectures are interesting because she brings outside materials to make them more applicable to every day life. Good sense of humor. Easy A if you study and follow the directions.
Nice lady, talks about Canada a lot, good teacher - definately knows what shes talking about. Practice A LOT for the speeches, tests arent easy but not impossible either..and i noticed she LOVES writing tons of comments on things you write
Tests are much more difficult than you'd expect - study! But otherwise the class is pretty laid back, the prof. is very nice & helpful.
jsut get on her good side.
She is an amazing individual who'll take the time to get to know you if you talk to her before or after class. The only professor who knew all the students' names of all my classes this semester. She has a wicked sense of humor.
my fave prof. this semester. She tells it like it is and tries to relate to her students while teaching. you have to work for your grade - writing speeches sucks but she can tell how much effort you put into something. will always make time to talk one-on-one after class. great accent too!
good teacher, helpful, relaxed, overall nice lady. Tests are very hard, even if you study. But take it if you need tom its bearabel with a small workload.
I thought that Conis was a good professor. She's a hard grader when it comes to speeches, but she makes it clear what shes expecting. When it comes to test just read the book and you'll do fine. Plus she usually curves them. She is funny and makes class interesting.
Okay, so she doesn't put up with crap, but that's what I like about her. I know that my A is really an A. Love her, love her, love her.
funny in class but when you are one on one she is men and scary- doesnt like greek life people
She is my favorite professor this semester. So funny, cracks me up. So easy to talk to, the class is always one big discussion and everyone gets to know eachother. Tests are not bad at all, just follow the study guide!! LOVE HERRRR
Participate in her class. Your life will be much easier. Trust me. I gave a train wreck of a speech. I expected an F, but got an A. Still not sure what speech she watched, but not complaining. Quizzes are just to make sure people read. Only 2 tests. Not much work. Show up and say a few words. Easy
good/interesting teacher.Only two tests;first one sucks b/c more than one answer can be correct, but it is a group test.Very fair grading on presentations--a few chances for extra credit, about five points for each presentation
not too bad. DO NOT take this class at 9am like I did. It's just painful. But she definitely knows her stuff, and her attendance policy isnt that bad. Except for the fact that if you miss 6 classes you automatically get an F. That was hard not to do.
She loves teaching and it shows. She's kind and helpful. Allowed me to turn in a late paper after the final exam and get a better grade. I like her weird humor.
Great teacher - intimidating at first but so loveable. Class became really enjoyable to go to because she didn't waste our time (or hers). She has adorable kids - you are lucky if they come to visit! (just not on the day of the speech about prostitution!) TAKE HER.
very nice and easy if you pay attention and due the practice tests on the cd-rom to study. makes class interesting and not stressful. she knows that not everyone there is a communications major and takes that into consideration.
Very nice! She explains topics well, so the class is easy to understand. Lectures are entertaining. Two speeches, 1 movie analysis, 3 tests, if you try your best it is taken into consideration. She is very easy to talk to and wants students to do well. Take her!
She can be pretty cool and makes class somewhat fun. She does give ALOT of work though (a quiz, 2 tests+ final, 2 speeches, and a 3-5 page paper), and the tests are tough, even if you study. No homework really, but there's alot to do even without it. She takes attendance every day so go to class. I reccomend her if you're willing to do some work.
This class was pretty cool. I am very intimidated by public speaking, but she knows how to make you feel at ease. She is always cracking jokes and gives really good lectures. Her notes are easy to understand and full of examples, too. She is very approchable for extra help or extra credit. Sweetest teacher I've had at JMU. I recomend her 100%
Enjoyed her class!
I love Dr.Conis she is incredibly nice and has a great sense of humor. Didn't like this class, the material in general is very boring. Has an attend. policy. Complicated individual exam, but if you get good grades on speeches/one paper then you will do fine. Still came out of the class with a B when I bombed one of the tests. No worries she's great
Too strict for a gen-ed. Ugh. Boring and hard to get an A. Speeches have to be perfect to get an A and it sucks.....she is smart but not the nicest teacher.
Professor Conis was an extremely nice professor. Although the subject matter was somewhat dry she makes class interesting. Tests can be difficult and presentations are hard to get an A.
She say's that the only reason as to why individuals would rate her poorly is if she had given them a bad grade... well I'm doing fine in the class, and i still find her to be very unhelpfull, unapproacable and unfriendly. I strongly suggest you do not take her.
She's a great lady, very entertaining and likeable. However, the class is very hard. She grades more harshly and requires more work than a lot of GCOM teachers so only take this class if you're willing to work hard for your grade
TAKE HER! She's funny & really knows how to teach on a level that keeps the attention of college students. Tells great stories-class was never boring/painful. Also incredibly helpful during office hours. Tests can be a bit difficult & you do have to read the books, but she's a fair grader and throws out bad questions. Overall favorite prof @ JMU
This class seemed easy, test questions were hard to understand. There is supplemental reading (i.e. Extra) which sucks. But she does give a study guide that helps you get the grade on her tests. No attendence policy, but go to class, its not too bad.
If you don't want to read, you shouldn't be in college. The readings were about interesting issues in communication. Stuff we should be aware of, such as the impact of MySpace on our generation. I liked her course. Have taken it before with someone else and did much better this time around.
Annick is a wonderful professor and her class was very interesting. The book was pretty good as far as textbooks go, though you do have to read the whole thing. One chapter a week isn't too bad. Take her if you can, she is helpful, interesting, and fun.
She is a good teacher and it is not hard to do well in her class, but i noticed that i did work a lot harder on my speeches than my friends in other classes and they did better than me!
AMAZING PROFESSOR AND COURSE. SHE WAS VERY HIGH SPIRITED AND ENERGETIC. SHE TAUGHT THE MATERIAL WELL AND GRADED FAIRLY. SHE EVEN BOUGHT US DESSERT. TERRIFIC INSTRUCTOR ALL THE WAY.
Definitely one of my favorite professors here at JMU. She's absolutely hilarious and is really helpful to students. When doing presentations, she helps the people who present first, so do it. Wonderful professor!
Love her love her love her. She will crack you up every class. She is one of the best in the Comm dept take her if you can because if not you will be missing out. If you do the work you will be fine. She gives you study guides for the tests. Do them and you will get an A or B......TAKE HER!
Professor Conis was a great teacher! I absolutely loved her. She's hilarious and will make you laugh every class. Her assignments aren't unbearable, but I did work harder on my presentations than my friends. She's a very nice lady and is extremely helpful when you talk to her. Definately take her!!
Very funny lady, extremely nice and if you can get her outside of class, very helpful. She does factor in your groups performances to your individual grade, as this is a group class. 2 Speeches, 1 Paper, and 2 exams, not a hard class, but it helps to be there every day.
Gcom class is supposed to be an introduction to college classes where we learn what it will be like with this teacher you will not have the advantage of this learning experience. if she dislikes you she will do everything in her power to make your grade suffer DO NOT RISK HAVING HER FIND ANOTHER TEACHER SHE SUCKS HARDCORE
This is it! I'vemade up my mind to be a communication major. This woman is amazing! I was scared of public speaking, and man, I feellike I could speak in front of Bush! (Which would be easy because he can't say two things that are interesting.) Easy to follow; do what she says for an easy A.
What a great profesor. Mrs. Conis teaches with understanding, and she also knows her material very well. Her class is a bit challenging, and there is a lot of work. 2 presentations, 3 papers, and 3 test She's a fair grader and she takes great pride in what she does, and she care about her students. Take her.
Good teacher. Funny, kind of intimidating. Follow everything EXACTLY as she says.
She is the bomb diggy!
Funny, good teacher. Keeps things interesting while still informing the class. Take her class, you'll enjoy!
Very intimidating. At first we all thought she was funny but once the presentations began we saw a different side. Follow all her directions very precisely, and you should be fine. I got through it with a B.
She was a very interesting teacher! I had no prior knowledge of the subject and she totally made it fun and worthwhile. i tried to never miss a class because the material was really interesting and she made it fun. she also really knew what she was teaching, which makes it better.
she is very helpful and available! She is fun and keeps the class interesting. She gives fair grades and i would definitely recommend her!!
Very funny professor! Lectures are always interesting and I always learn something exciting. Tests are very hard so study hard. Extra credit quizzes on the Da Vinci Code book and more. If you have to take thsi class, take her! She's really laid back!
Awesome. Always available and completely willing to help you with anything related or unrelated to class. Talks about her dog and family and ex-husband all the time so it gets really funny. You won't regret taking her!
Mrs. Annick. Pretty good teacher, she is tough in grading but she makes the class funny. She has the french accent and its so funny. One of the best teachers at JMU
She's really nice and funny. It has been one of my favorite classes of the semester just because of her. She is a bit of a hard grader especially on the papers but she offers extra credit and is more than willing to help you. Take her if you can! She's so sweet!
This lady is awesome. She made me love communications!
She makes me want to change my major to communications. She's an awesome teacher. If you work hard on your speech, you'll get a good grade. I like the way she puts us in new groups for each things, that way you get to know everyone in your class. overall.. take the class!
She is awesome def take her if you can! Hard grader but lets you redo certain assignments to get part of the credit back. Make sure you do the little extra credit things she gives out even at the beginning because you will want them in the end! If you do everything should get a B.
wonderful woman! very funny, but a hard grader! read the book and go to class!! Don't take if you don't like working in groups, however.
Do not take. Her grading makes absolutely no sense and the tests have nothing to do with material learned in class. It is almost impossible to get an A in the class. I would highly advise taking another professor.
Probably one of the best professors at JMU. Made everyone in class like public speaking. Hardest part of the class are the test which are pretty hard but if she sees that you work hard you will get a good grade
Very good teacher. Tests consists of material from the books, powerpoints, and videos viewed in lecture. Show up to class, read the books, study the powerpoints, and this class will be great for you. Do none of these, and you will suffer. Tests are curved, and there are opportunities for XC. Funny, smart and committed to teaching her students.
Good class. Hard tests. Did well on tests when i made my own outlines. She gives you outlines to go by as well. Lots of extra credit. Thats what brought me from a C to B. Go to office hours and get points. Great lady overall. Very passionate about SCOM. Take her if you want to understand nonverbal communication. Annick is SO HOT. Do the extra credi
Annick is a good prof and funny woman! She makes the class interesting and makes you want to pay attention. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to class to get the powerpoint notes is necessary. READ THE BOOKS- she asks a lot of questions from the books on the tests.
She is very rude and doesn't realize it. The class is sort of a joke. The presentations and assignments given are total bull. I'm not saying this from bad grades because I have attended all classes and received good grades, she's just extremely rude and makes it seem like she doesn't care about her students at all. I advise taking another professor
Fantastic!! An easy class and a fantastic teacher with a good sense of humor.
I love Annick! She is an awesome teacher who knows how to keep peoples attention during class. She is funny and makes the material interesting. This is one of my favorite classes this semester and I hate public speaking! TAKE ANNICK! SHE IS THE BEST!
I loved her! I would highly recommend you take her class. She is a difficult grader but its worth it. I wasn't interest in communications what so ever but i really enjoyed her teaching style! Make sure you write down her examples when she gives lectures because they will help you on the final!
Here's some advice. If you're taking group communication, don't take her. Her grading policy is too hard to have your grade rely on other people. Trust me on this one. I am a competent speech writer and giver and I still ended up with a B+. She is a good professor and the class wasn't bad.
She is a really smart teacher. She is very fun in class and knows what she's talking about. She is a tough grader but that is because she is head of the department and treats us like we're actually college students. She is very nice and helpful. If you take her class expect to work hard but you will pass the final with flying colors and get a B up.
living in ashby i got a real kick of having this professor. She made me feel like **** that i had a nervous breakdown and ended up in the hospital twice and was forced to withdrawal from the school because i burned myself out and had support from no one. Its funny how life and dreams are slashed before my eyes and now im just a lost cause
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She rips you apart no matter how hard you try and will find ANYTHING to take off for when you present. She will even take off for the same mistake more than once, whether it applies to that category or not. She seems nice at first but don't fall for it. She is biased for boys and seems really bitter about her ex-husband. WEIRD.
Annick always seems nice and chipper in class. However, her grading is pretty strict. Not an easy A, but a manageable B.
Annick is funny and nice, and can make you laugh, but she's a pretty tough grader. She takes off on speeches for EVERYTHING, such as sniffling, uptalk, etc. You might not get an A, but a B is definitely not hard. If you're not a good public speaker, don't take her.
I public speak often and continually received Bs on my speeches. She wants a speech directly from an outline and the more rigid you stick to that, the better your grade. The final saved me. I did not read the book, but i filled out the entire study guide and used that. An A on the final means an A in the class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Spends way too much time talking about her French-Canadian heritage and her ex husband that she doesn't actually teach anything. She's not clear at all about what she expects from you and grades RIDICULOUSLY HARD. I worked my a** off and barely got a C+
Annick is awesome! She's extremely helpful and a great teacher, I rarely got bored during her lectures. She's hilarious and her grading is fair, she is clear about what is expected and as long as you follow her guidelines and read the text before exams you can get an A.
She's very clear from the get go that there's work involved in the class. (That's what college is all about, afterall.) You will learn a lot, and she will help you be a better public speaker. Does not put up with student crap and lame excuses. Funny, funny, funny.
The class was a little stressful, but only for speaking which I hate. Conis is friendly and helpful, and her classes are very interesting. She's more likely to help you if you work hard or at least look like you're working hard. Studying at the last minute is not recommended :)
She goes by Annick Dupal now. She's a lot of fun! Kind of crazy and eccentric, but still has interesting lectures. She's a fairly hard grader with the speeches, but the tests aren't that hard.Take her!
She is entertaining and uses popular movies and life stories as examples. Rarely a power point! Vary fair grader. She is very friendly and easy to ask questions.
If you aren't shy this class isn't very hard. However, Conis definitely doesn't grade by a standard. She takes off for arbitrary things like, if she thinks your skirt is too short. Having taken a speech class before GCOM I can confidently say I was one of the best speakers. Still ended with a B+ because of her selective grading policies.
AMAZING teacher, but don't dress immodestly for your speech! Or say, like totally like, like, or ummmmm... she takes points off if you are not articulate. Great sense of humor.
Annick is a great professor! If you're in the PR concentration, you WILL NOT regret taking this class. She will help you become such a better writer (for real). She made us go out on our own and get a client to write PR materials for. It's going to be a challenge, but suck it up and take her!
