Had only 1 paper for the semester. She claims to be open-minded, but I got into an arguement with her in the first week of class. I would not take her again.

Easy Course, there was only one paper and a group project as well as the occasional homework assignment. I'd recommend this teacher to most people.

Not a great teacher!! She will argue with you until you are blue in the face (she should be teaching debate) she is also not very helpful and she makes you feel like she is better than you in every way possible

I dont want you to think I am just blasting this prof to be mean... She is a complete ASS! She doesnt give your your grades to assignments and also does not give you feedback on what you did right or wrong with regard to your assignments. Her syllabus no where near matches her course... She sucks!

She tends to go off topic with current US government issues which don't really pertain to the material you'll be tested on. She is an interesting person, very eloquent and knows her stuff, but I won't take her again. It seems like she goes out of her way to make you feel stupid.

She has a knack for wasting an entire hour and a half on a single current event topic, and teaching nothing relevant to government, or upcoming exams. She has enough demographic statistics memorized to fill a hard drive, none of which is worth taking notes on.

This teacher is horrible. She has a gift for getting on one topic and talking about it and then trying to push everything that is on the next test into the class before it happens. She seems to genuienly not want people to pass. She also sees her self better than you because she is a prof. VERYBAD

Easy grader if u do the assignments. Internet assignments r easy A. She's not very clear w/what she wants but it's easy to do good w/her point system. I made an A, but she's a really bad teacher. She doesn't help and she yelled at me for talking the first day...and she's pretty rude about stuff. She has so many statistics memorized it's annoying.

She is a good professor. She gives you an outline on the syllubus.If you follow the outline you dont even have to go to class, just make sure you know when the tests are because she reschedules them. You will also want to at a minimum attempt all the assignments. If you do that its a definate B.

She is a stanch liberal and openly asserts that if you believe in the death penalty and the right to life you are "stupid". A genuinely bitter woman who asserts that the government (which *is* the aim of the class) is taking your freedoms away (the ones we're supposed to be learning about) and is purposefully ballooning the national debt. Why does (1) the class have to be a forum for political soapboxing, and (2) she teach a course on a subject which she CLEARLY hates??

She makes you question and think about the issues that are not necessarily comfortable. If you're interested in an open mind and challenging political viewpoints while you take a basic required course, she Dr. Benifield will definitely be the professor to take. Not many teachers at community colleges teach at her standard.

She is rude and tries to force her opinions on you. It is not ok to disagree with this woman. Do not take her.

I dropped the first week because the first day of class she yelled at everyone for their opinions after ASKING their opinions on things and she is scary. She even looks scary. She said I couldn't be in a certain group project BECAUSE I AM FEMALE. She is INSANE. Don't take her.

I took her for both GOVT 2301 & 2302. She covers all the material that might be on the test in class. She does go fairly fast and doesnt not like to stop to answer questions. You have to give a speech in both classes that she grades fairly hard on.

I don't know what her deal is. She's mean and is very much a feminist! I'm a female and just wanted her to stop talking. She wasn't understanding at all and I just couldn't pass the time fast enough.

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! She degrates her students when they state their opinion. Her tests are graded by her opinion and there is no clear answer. If she does not like you, she will give you an F. I dont think anyone made an A or B in her class!

This teacher is the worst teacher in the world. She did not talk about anything relevant to the lesson and test. Her instructions on assignments are very vague and broad unable to comprehend. She is very annoying and does not have the ability to teach. When asking an educational question, she responds with an incoherent question.

dr. Beniefield is an excellent instructor. she challenges students to consider other viewpoints on American political issues. her lectures may not be immediatly clear to students who do not pay attention, but are very clear to students who take notes and keep up with the readings. highly recommend her, but you gotta work to make an A

At first, I was put off. You do not mess around with this lady, be who you are and you will earn her respect, but you have to earn it. You can't get away with NOT reading the textbook. Read and do the work, listen in class and you will get by with at least a C+. She can be hard to get along with, but hey get used to it! You'll have that!

Dr. Benifield is not understanding and does not seem to have a real desire for students to learn, as she is not willing to go out of her way to even answer a question that could provide clarification. She gave no explanation for the grades she gave me so I was not clear on what she wanted; her responses were rather rude.

Dr. Benifiel is absolutely the WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. She is not helpful at all, is repetitious, leaves you guessing about everything. She doesn't teach from the book and openly states that her notes aren't on the test. Her syllabus is like 20 pages, with no calender. The asignments are just scattered through it, so u have to really look.

Took online class and it wasn't that bad. I'm glad I didn't read all of these reviews first. There was a lot of work to be done and the tests weren't easy but it wasn't extremely difficult and she did work with me when I really needed it. Don't ask questions you could have answered yourself by reading the sylubus though.

It is her goal to make her students feel stupid. DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS in her class. She belittles the students and if your opinion differs from hers she attempts to prove you wrong. DIFFICULT EXAMS! The homework and quizzes are extremely important for your overall grade. She loves class participation, but when you do participate it is her aim to prove you wrong. It seems like all she wants to do is prove how much smarter she is compared to her students. She is a hard teacher.

Worst experience of my life.

I enjoyed taking Dr. Benifield's class. After the 1st test(C+) I thought it was going to be bad but I received an A in the class. Know current events, be prepared to defend your position if speak in class, study and GO TALK to her if you are having problems. She wants you to learn and she does that by trying to make you think! Good prof. and nice!

This is my second time taking her class and I LOVE HER CLASS! She is good! She really does care about whether you are learning or not. After every test, she asks you if you wanted her to change anything on the test next time and she tries her best to make it happen. You will have to study very hard on her tests though! Tests are hard!

I took this professor in the summer, and while I did not find the course material any more difficult than any other class I have taken, the professor is just plain awful. Republicans BEWARE!! This professor had the nerve to ask us who we voted, and who our parents voted for in the 2008 election!!!! Do not take her if you have any opposing views!

i took her in the 5 week summer class, hated gov in high school, and dreaded it. but she made me think about political views. yes republicans beware. but if u go in with a neutral mind u will find her random stories interesting. learn the vocab. and just pay attention & u will pass

She is a nice person, but lets her political viewpoints get in the way of teaching. She keeps her office hours open for students who need help, but not very helpful. Test are Scantron and are textbook authored. Lectures, study guides, and homework do not cover tests. extremely hard class. I had to drop b/c it was killing my other classes.

I really enjoyed the class. There isn't a lot of busy work, 3 test, 3 discussions, & 3 HW assignments. You have to read & know the book well. She offers an outline of topics (not info on those topics) about what will be on the test. Know those in great detail. As long as you read the book and learn the material you can get an A. Lots of reading.

Has to be one of the most ignorant and incompetent professors I've ever had. Once she finds out your political views she will shoot you down with every opportunity. Will mark things wrong on the basis of her asking a question not originally asked in the question. Also will tell you you're wrong when she is the one that is absolutely wrong.

I liked her class. You do need to understand concepts in a lot of detail, and remember who is in office currently. At the same time, she is very willing to help if you ask. She is obviously liberal, but i didn't find her rude at all.

This class is extremely easy.You can take quizzes twice, and the tests are basically the quizzes with extra questions.My complaint is the teacher herself. I thought she was ESL, b/c her answers are never to what you ask I learned quickly that she's just rude and answers what she wants to answer..usually "you should know this by now" Very rude woman

She grades incredibly hard and doesn't keeps the grades up to date in the gradebook. She didn't update any of my grades until the final grade had to be entered and I never knew what I failed or passed. She doesn't get back to you within a timely manner and is very rude in her response. It was a more "do it yourself" type of class. there for $$$.

I do not like this class. I would advise you not to take her. The tests are hard and she goes through the book in a very weird order. She is rude and will tell you that all your answers are wrong. I didnt sign up for her class, actually I dont think anyone in my class did. Anyways, It was horrible. Its not worth taking notes because she goes through her power points at 100mph. Terrible teacher. Her test are so hard. We only took 3 test and 2 people out of 20 passed. I would not recommend her. She is very rude and opinionated. If you try to discuss something with her she'll basically tell you you're wrong with out even listening to you.

Hardest class I've ever taken! She was a sweet lady but the tests were VERY hard. She does give extra credit though if you go to the Trevor Live things. There is a ton of work to do so if you are busy, don't take this class. She is very liberal so if you're conservative, be open minded.

I do not recommend taking this class. I am an A student and I got a D in this class. There are a lot of activities due for each chapter and its hard to keep up. The tests are really tough and the quizzes are 50 questions long. She doesn't respond to emails very often either.

I am a straight A student. This class was one of the hardest classes I've taken, and even after tons of studying and working extremely hard I got a low C. I would not recommend it. She knows a lot, but if you aren't super involved she can be rude.

I had an extremely hard time with this professor. Her syllabus is somewhat clear, however she does not follow the syllabus. If you take this online I would advise you not to. You have to dig and search for assignments and she has her class set up in a very disorganized way. Too much work, hard tests and tons of quizzes. Do not recommend.

If you are taking GOVT online DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! 1.) Takes 24-48 hours to respond to emails 2.) Does not know how to use the online portal properly, resulting in me failing 1 section of the course because she did not release the content. 3.) Clearly does not look out for the best interest of the student.

I am a straight A student and had to drop this class because I could not get to a passing grade. I spent hours studying on the weekend and reading the chapters, but her tests were extremely difficult. She is extremely liberal, so my conservative views got me a bad grade. Do not take this course.

I am a straight A student and I dropped this class because I was failing. I studied more than I usually do and still failed every test I took. She did not care that I was struggling when I contacted her, and the only extra credit available was to drive to the campus and listen to lectures.

I wish I've read all these opinions before taking this class. Worst decision ever. The exams are exhausting and sometimes have nothing to do with previous quizzes I completed or ever with the book. I decided to dropped this class only a month after I started. Not a good idea if you want a good grade.

Don't take this class. I am in online full sem. class. She was listed as staff when I registered because I am sure Lone Star knows everyone looks at this site. Way too much work; hard grader; opinionated; quizzes 35 questions for 35 minutes; test 52 questions plus a long 20 point essay. Postings require extensive research.

I honestly should of listen to rate my professor about this lady! shes super hard! literally you'll be writing essay just for her discussion and on top of that you wont be getting a 100. I took her 8 week Texas Government class, and did everything right, but still need up with a B. She is a tough grader and her lectures go on tangents, quite often.

She is extremely passionate about government and her lectures are really good. The pre and post test that she puts up are really good for studying before the test. I don't think you have to read all of the chapters to get good grades, just make sure you grasp all of the concepts. She does give extra credit and there is no final cumulative exam.

I had never received C grade in my life but with with this teacher even after putting the best efforts. I took an online late start class. She was really late in responding always and really tough grader. I put less effort than this in other classes and received A. She isnt kind enough to understand and reflect on students circumstance.

I hated this class so much. She was the most boring lady I have ever heard in my life. And she never talks about her online assignments and theres 200+ assignments and only half are mandatory... avoid this lady at all costs, I dont understand why shes even a professor.

This lady is generally a horrible teacher. Shes great when you have a question but will backfire with things that make you feel very stupid. She expects everyone to know every single part of history. She doesnt explain assignments and she can put me to sleep within the first 10 minutes of lecture.

She can talk for the entire 2 hours and with in the time shes not helping. I could learn more from reading the book. She shouldnt be a professor. She knows a lot but is still not good.

I just couldnt connect with this lady on any level because she is very one sided and if your opinion isnt hers she wont even think about your opinion. She knows a lot and is passionate but gets off topic about present day things when thats not what the test is about. I just couldnt get good grades.

This teacher only teaches about present day thing Ex: trump and how she doesn't agree with anyone's opinion on him. She is a horrible teacher and doesn't know how to teach test material. She doesn't know how to connect with students and she generally makes you feel very stupid. I don't like her and I advise to not get her class.

Very knowledgeable. Relate current issues in Texas politics to past governmental issues. Enjoyed the way she encouraged us as students to watch read and know about politics. Encourages students to attend campus events for extra credit.

The class I wanted was cancelled, so I was forced to take Benifield. Course is laid out in three phases, two weeks each. Way too much work for each chapter: 2 quizzes, graded game, simulation, simulation quiz. Pre-exam and exam after each phase. She also made up blatantly incorrect grammar rules and counted me off for not abiding by them.

Benifield is a nice enough lady, but she can't teach for the life of her. Somehow she manages to use the entire class time up without teaching anything. If you want to succeed in her class, you will have to rely a lot on the textbook. Her tests were rather hard, but for the final she allowed students to submit questions, and it was a bit easier.

This professor is AWFUL. I can normally handle bad profs, but the lack of communication is astounding. Major assignments were due on Saturdays, but she would not respond to emails after Thursday. This wasn't a policy, just her not wanting to respond. She is not a fair grader and does not give much feedback. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

This professor is the worst I have ever had. Her grading system is confusing, she is a tough grader, and her assignments are way to hard. She also does not explain the assignments very well. I still made a B but it was not worth the stress.

3major exams (webcam used) 3major quizzes. 14 chapter quizzes, 3 discussions+2 responses each. 14 stimulations & 14 Inquisitive assignments. I took a 3wk class. LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS. She's a tough grader. I thought people were lazy but no, her exams are hard. & if your taking other classes with this one just be aware its time consuming & stressful

this lady takes her class way too seriously and i can tell without having ever met her. took her online and she assigns an ABSURD amount of work. i understand that she might not want it to be a "blowoff", but she takes it way too far. 8 week online course. it is more time consuming than my chemistry and calculus classes. literally. do not take.

This was probably the most difficult class Ive taken in college so far and govt. isnt even hard for me. The tests are over nothing you study and people would get 60-70 at best on the exams. Shes pretty harsh if you have a different political or social opinion than her and will grade accordingly.

This teacher will give you bad grades on assignments just for the sake of it and will not explain why she has taken off so many points. In class, the lectures are not that relevant to what is on the tests and quizzes. However, one upside to this class is that there are enough "grade-padding" assignments that can get you enough to a decent grade.

Do not take Professor Benifield! Her lectures do not prepare you for the test and instead waste 90 minutes of your time. The exams are extremely difficult and involve very specific information from the textbook. She is also VERY opinionated and seems more concerned with indoctrinating her students than teaching.
