This class sucks, the professer moves on whether the class is ready to or not. She gives no extra credit either. Her tests are WAY harder than the homework too. If you can find a good tutor you might have a chance of passing.
The teacher is hard but she does build in 55 points into her grading scale. If you come to class and do the homework you can do well. It is a hard class but you can learn a lot.
Hard class...She moves on whether the class understands the material or not...no extra credit...not very helpful...gives homework assignments but doesn't take them up or grade them

She puts problems on the bord that she cant even do herself and expects us to know what to do. She is very unclear and her class is very hard.
Be ready to be challenge. Just to note, there are no curves. On our first Algebra review test the class average was a 38. A very time consuming class.
A little over confident in herself, doesn't explain things in a fashion that I am familiar with. Doesn't assign adiquate home work or test study materials. Something is just seriously wrong/does not "click".
She's the best, all you need to do is the work and pay attention.
She is a sweet lady but BE PREPARED TO WORK HARD for this class! If you're not that great with math, study, study, study! She can be very helpful if you go up to her. Nice personality but the subject covered in the class can be daunting. Study, study, study!

Class avergage for 4 tests was 58.0 -more than half the class failed. Unacceptable and indicates a major teaching problem. The University needs to take note of the grades. Teaching is the objective, not showing off her knowledge without regard to the students need to learn the subject material.
For anyone who is stuck with this professor the only advice I can give is to study all of the questions she assigns for review if you want to at least get a C in her class. ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND GO TO CLASS.
i think she is a great professor.if u go up to her and ask her she will make sure that u completely understand all of the material. but u have to WORK HARD in this class.not an easy grade but u actually learn alot if u put forth the effort. i highly recommend her.
If there was a choice between her class and a 10hr class I would choose the 10hr class. She's that bad!
Dante left out a level of hell and it is this class. You're best off not going to class and hiring a tutor or trying to teach yourself. If you go she will only confuse you. Also, if improper grammar bothers you stay away, this woman has absolutely no grasp whatsoever of the english language.
if you show up to class, you wont have the problem that the previous student did...you have to go to class to keep up and she makes things a lot more simple than the book... i never even used my book and got a B out of the class..i liked her, she's a good professor.
Avoid, If you have to take this class, I heard Spinelli or Wibberly is better. This teacher actually argues with the students, she doesn't use blackboard, and is not very helpful if you ask a question.
THIS TEACHER SUCKS! Do not take Stith-Willis. She might me the most aggrevating teacher I have ever had. I had to drop because I couldn't stand her and the way she talked to the class. She argues with her students. TAKE SPINELLI OR WIBBERLY!
If your good at math, this class will be easy. She gives great notes, so as long as you come to class and do your homework, this class will be cake. Definetly would recommend taking this class ASAP, because people tend to get extremely rusty with math as time goes by.
Wow. I've always enjoyed math till I took this class with Mrs. Stith-Willis. Annoying voice. She argues with the class. Mrs. Byrd for MGMT 171= amazing teacher and fun class. Stith-Willis= terrible teacher, class is hell. Take someone else for mgmt 212!!! Stith-Willis is terrible.

This teacher needs to get FIRED!! Started with lecture room full of students (Temple 1160), many withdrew of failed, there were only 12 people who took the fourth test!! Class average on 4 tests is 52-60, an F!!!! She is the worst teacher I've taken at VCU.
Unequivocally, the worst professor I've ever had. We started out with a 120 students, about 40 took the final and the class average for all the tests was around 56. If you go by averages that means that approx. 1/6 of the class passed. She needs to be fired.
This class is definitely one of the worst I've taken at VCU. I came out of mgmt 171 with a 96 average and then barely passed this class. She rushed through the material even when students still had questions and her tests were very hard and different from the study guides she posted on blackboard. Stay away from this class.

Gives good notes, and gives practice test online. But she is not really willing to answer questions, or try to help you understand what she is teaching. Moves at her own pace, disregarding her students. Horrible teacher take someone else if you have the opportunity too

Everyone is complaining...I know I have a high D but you DO learn the material...the tests are really hard and she does trick you. Shes is nice however and will help you out. I think shes a great person and most likely we all just suck at true math...Shes an actual college professor, hence the PHD
I took calculus in high school and had a really bad teacher but she has made everything much easier to understand. I think shes great and expects us to be acting like college students. Comments on here had me scared but she really has done a great job and I think that the rest of you just really need to put in an effort.
VCU could have saved the money they are paying her because this was basically a self taught class. The practice exams were nothing like what was on the actual test and she would put stuff on the test that we had not covered in class yet. And she is boring and not good at explaining anything.
Scared b4 semester started having her as my teacher. Everyone just doesn't put in enough effort doesnt come to class/ do hw/try to help themselves. She has very thorough notes that she does in classm the hw is pretty straightforward, similar to what was done in class. tests IMO are JUST like what we do in class. She's a good professor!!
Everyone at VCU knows about Stith-Willis...beware of hyphenated last names! Take Wibberly for Calc and you will sleep better at night.

You'll hear about ASW before your first day in her class but actually she's not that bad.. you just have to take matters in your own hands and go to office hours and do homework until you understand completly and you will be good..
Everything on the tests is covered in class. Take careful notes. She is extremely helpful when the time is right. Do not waste her time in class asking your idiotic questions because you don't pay attention or do homework. You MUST do your homework to pass this class. Act like an adult and she will treat you like an adult. Highly recommended.
Prof Stith is very easy. she gives lots of extra credits quize and if students pay attention then it is really easy to get an A.She covers everything in class and always has quiz before test to make clear for students. she is really helpful in and after class. you just need to finish homework and pay attention in class. you can easily get an A.

Professor Stith-Willis does a good job explaining the basics of calculus. However, she puts the most difficult ?'s on the test, and most of the ?'s are not as easy as hw problems. Also her test were very long so you had to rush through them to try and finish.
I thought Mrs. Stith-Willis was a great teacher. If you came to class, did your homework, and studied, you passed. I will admit, her test questions were harder than the hw, and you did have to rush through with no time to check your answers. I just think some students need to learn that you just MIGHT have to come to class and do hw to pass.

Possibly the worst teacher I have had in my entire life. Almost everyone in her class had a hard time understanding what she was trying to teach. Not only that, but there was never enough time to finish her ridiculously extensive and very difficult tests. She was never understanding, and had problems with the majority of the students in my class.
I loved Stith-Willis' class. I thought she was a great teacher! If you attend class, do the HW, & prepare for exams in advance instead of the day before or the day of...you will do well. If u r having challenges & ask for additional assistance...she will work w/u. She will also recommend good tutors, if u can't meet during her office hours.

Test are extremely hard and long there are 10 steps to every problem, that one problem could be a third of your test. the Homeworks do nothing for me to prepare me for the test. Stith-Willis is the worst. She is not clear when explaining things. Her tests will leave you feeling drained and exhausted. To save yourself a semesters worth of a headache, take someone else if you possibly can, because VCU hardly gives you anyone else to take!
Worst teacher EVER. If you like teaching yourself calculus, this is for you. Goes over easy examples and homework in class and give extremely hard problems on all tests. Never reviews old test questions. She's always late to class and doesn't explain many problems at all. Awful!!

Be careful about choosing this professor. Expects you to know what she is teaching; even though this is your first time working these problems. Not an exciting teacher. Keeps good control of the class and enforces the no talking rule or ringing cells. Tests were much harder than the material covered in class. Failing average on every test taken.

Terrible teacher! I got all A's this semester except a C in her class. She is horrible! 5 minutes late every day and isn't very helpful at all. I consider myself a very diligent student, but it is hard to survive this class. Our last test average was a 34!!!!
There is nothing worse than a teacher that does not explain to you the subject she is teaching unless, she gives you the hardest tests she can make up too. Stith-Willis does not teach so, you are forced to teach yourself. If you want to pass this class, forget about your other classes, quit your job, and find a tutor that is the jesus of math.
Classwork aspect of class was easy, and I understood everything. On the tests she puts questions that are so much harder than anything you ever touch in class or for homework. In addition to that, she makes them too long to do in a 50 minute time frame. Poor test grader too, I argued back around 35 points by the end of the semester on 4 tests.
If you get a 55% average on the tests and get 30/50 on the HW points you get a C. Yes the average test scores are around 50% (including the dum*ss students who got 2-5 points) and yes the tests are hard to finish in 50 minutes. However, this class is passable and she is a great teacher of the material. Its difficult but over-dramatized by others
If you have the option to take this with another professor (which happens every now and then), DO IT! If you do take her, beware of the tests (as mentioned before) and her rude attitude. I had never seen test averages so low before I took this class.

People who get the high grades in this class are typically talented in math. People who aren't so lucky will have a difficult time. Skips steps after 1 example, answers questions with math jargon, gives tests that dont match examples.Had to teach myself. Before her I've never failed a math test by running out of time despite knowing the material.
She is a nice and very intelligent person. I just don't think she knows how to translate that knowledge into a teachable way. I failed it.
I think she was a very good teacher. If you didn't understand the material in class go to her office hours. She is more than willing to help. The key is to do the homework and understand the examples in class. If you do those two things, you should do well in the class.
Good Professor, A student needs 79 % to get an A. I went to the professor regularly during office hours. I had 95 % in this class.

Great teacher who explains the material clearly and is very helpful during her office hours. Attending the class is very important and completing the homework will help you on the test. If you are not strong in math using your time wisely for office hours will help you a lot as long as you are doing the work, and understanding what your doing.
The only reason for the poor ratings are: lazy students. The only thing I can fault her for is the fact that she doesn't "baby" anyone. She expects that you're a grown adult so thus she treats you as such. Doing beyond homework assigned is highly recommended in order to fully understand concepts. Took class in 5week summer session and got an "A"!!!

Very bad teacher. Her quiz/test averages prove it. The first quiz class average was 19/50. Second Quiz class average was 30/50. First test class average was 49/100. I had to drop it, so did a lot of other people. How can she considered herself a good teacher when the average class grade is failing? AVOID at all costs!!!
Very hard tests. combining many concepts in a single problem, results in confusing questions. Average quiz/test scores up to final. Quiz 1 17.33/50, quiz 2 32.13/50, Test 1 51.98/100, Test 2 36.44/100. Has a somewhat lenient grading scale, that's the only plus i guess.

Hardest class of my life, First time I took her class I got an F, second time I somehow pulled off a C. Shes a nice lady, but her test are the hardest they can be, be prepared to devote 80% of your studying to this class.
Pretty hard class, but not impossible. Going to class and doing the homework is a must, as well as studying. Tests are very hard, but not impossible if you study. If you have plenty of time to dedicate to this class, take her. If not, take someone else!
You can do all the homework and internet assignments perfectly, but don't expect it to affect your failing test grades. The class average was consistently <50%.
This course is an absolute mistake. NOTHING MAKES SENSE, SHE IS MERCILESS. she will teach you everything and none of her quizzes or tests will have ANY of the homework or in class problems. if you want to straight up fail a class while you're studying for it, then take her. otherwise it is a big mistake
MGMT 212 is not an impossible class, but it is if you take it with Stith-Willis! She goes through material too quickly and her tests are absolutely insane. She is also pretty much useless if you need extra help. I ended up withdrawing because I was failing, but I re-took it with Kellet and got an A. Definitely take Kellet or anyone else but S-W!
This class is quite difficult but not impossible. If u make an effort u will get the grade u deserve. Go to office hours for extra help, tutoring did not. Failed when I took her class a couple years back. Had to take 212 again but this time I took it with Kellett. I went from not standing a chance at all with a low F, to passing the same class, with the same material, with the same book, with a high B. 87 average. I believe that speaks for itself. I'd be hardpressed to believe she still works here.
I felt that she has very poor teaching methods and that did not help me at all. I would never recommend someone to take her class. I really don't know why she is still teaching at VCU. I think it would've been better if she was an advisor rather than a math teacher.
She is not a good Teacher!!!! PLEASE don't take the class unless you want to teach yourself the subject. If you don't want to teach yourself and do take the class you are just wasting your time, most likely you will be taking the class again the following semester.
I did fairly well in this course, and she does give a base ten point curve, but this was still one of the hardest courses I have ever taken. By the midterm half the students had dropped, and a good portion of the people that stayed still failed. Homework does not prepare you for the tests, and she was 5 minutes late to every class in a 50 min class
you need prior knowledge of calculus to fully understand what she is trying to teach. She makes problems a lot harder than what they seem & she grades assignments online thro a website that has glitches. When going over new material, she goes thro it all at once so u worry about writing instead of understanding. Overall i suggest you preprepare urs
She definitely wasn't the greatest teacher. The homework and the notes didn't always seem to match up so you would end up sometimes doing really bad though you knew how to do the problems. It was sometimes the same with tests which really ended up hurting my grade. Advice: you might want to see the other professors who teach this course.
This class is not an easy class, but if you come to class, pay attention and do the homework you will do fine. you can't expect it to come to you if you don't practice. I got an A and kept that throughout the semester and I took it my first semester of college. It was not that bad, at all.

This is a har class, especially if you struggle in math like I do. What will help is asking questions in class (she will answer w/ no problem), do homework form book and web assign, and take advantage of her office hours...see her afetr class every day if you need to! I ended w/ a D :(
By far the hardest professor at VCU Business. She was not clear, she was not helpful. The online homework is terrible and her tests are worse. She will give a "pre-test" but not show anyone how to work through it and wont help anyone. RUN if you value your gpa. Take Catasti instead!
Reads directly from PowerPoint in class and almost seems to be seeing the material for the first time when she's reading it. You'd be better off skipping class and just reading the text, except she grades on attendance. Her interpretation of test questions is more important than how their wording jives with the text. Worst teacher I've ever had.
if you are good at math like i am, don't let all these bad reviews scare you. i had a solid "A" in this class without buying the book. calc is one of those things, you either get it or you don't. its not the teachers fault, you can't expect them to let you pass when you don't understand the subject. i have had alot worse teachers than her.
Since 325 is conceptual the class isn't bad but I can see why she would be a horrible calc professor. Not good at explaining herself, reads from the PowerPoint and can't answer your questions if you ask her. Unorganized, slow at grading. I like the material, but hated the class b/c of her. I wouldn't go to class, but she takes attendance.
Prof is inconsistant and unwilling to spend a lot of time explaining. She didn't respond to emails from many students. I don't recommend this professor at all, stay away! She seems like she hates her job!
If you are willing to work, study, practice the material and speak up in class you will not have a problem in this class. She allows a note card on the test, she covers every HW problem in detail on the board. If you are too timid to ask questions in class for clarification you only have yourself to blame. She is tough but fair when grading tests.
IDK what this other people are talking about. I took her and received an A, she is cool and laid back and class is straight forward. I purposely took her after receiving a B in MGMT 212 with her. She is a GREAT teacher. This is coming from a average student so trust me!
For calculus do the homework she gives those are the same questions with different numbers she uses on the exam you shouldn't have a problem passing this class.
Her Grading scale is altered for the students benefit. She is cool and laid back, but at the sometime she is difficult. I've never received a B in any math class until now. I would recommend taking her in only an extreme case. Not trying to bash her because she is a good teacher.

You MUST go to class every single day. You MUST take notes on all the practice problems done. You MUST do all of the homework, especially all of the WebAssign hwk/quizzes. I scraped out with a C...but barely. You are going to have to do a lot of work in this class. She's hard, but you will learn a lot. KEEP UP WITH WEBASSIGN and GO TO CLASS.
I do not feel this professor was very thorough in the way she teaches the material. I would not say she is a bad professor I think it may have to do with this being an applications course and not a math course. I have never been so close to a B in my college career.
HW is daily and from the book. Class is HW review+a review of new stuff from the book. Tests are extremely hard and 10x harder than the HW. Not uncommon to see scores in the Teens. I bombed 2 tests (50s) and still managed to be a few points shy of a B. Get as many points as you can early bc it’s all downhill from there. Only take as a LAST resort.

She was extremely vague in teaching her concepts, she didn't go over basic things you need for calculus before going into main concepts. Didn't go over major points like the chain rule. Speaks in an apathetic manner. She works problems on the board and that's it, knows what she is doing cannot teach. Is not even likeable as a person. DO NOT TAKE!!

For someone teaching Organizational Communications, she is neither a master of organization OR communication. I've seen 3rd graders more organized. Poor with dates and announcements. Someone teaching public speaking, semantics, and writing should be able to get through her own syllabus without so many typos or a lecture without such poor delivery.

The worst professor I've ever had. The class is passable, but only with a lot of tutoring outside of class. Her tests are way harder than the material she teaches. The most stressful class I've ever taken. I failed the first two tests miserably. Do not take her.
This is class in not easy if you slack off. However if you show up to every class and do the homework she assigns, you should have no problem. The test problems are exactly what is on the homework. And she goes over homework in class.

I don't want to say she's a bad teacher, but if you're more of a math brain she is good. If not, stay away. She's not great at answering questions clearly ...either you get it or you don't. She also heavily depends on webassign which is a lot harder and more confusing than what you will actually be doing and it is a large chunk of your grade
Worst teacher I've ever had. You're grades consist of 5 tests and webassign home works. The tests are incredibly hard and feel as though they are impossible to pass. They are nothing like the problems she solves in class or the problems assigned for homework. If you think you know the material you're probably wrong. DO NOT TAKE.
Terrible. You will most likely understand everything in class. All the homework out of the book is very clear if you go to class. The problem is the tests are extremely difficult compared to the homework. What you see on the test is completely different.
She is a nice person, but a horrible professor. I did not buy the book, but from others it didn't help much. The tests are plain ridiculous, the questions are just to see if you read every single page of the book. You can still pass without the book you just have to do everything else perfect. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANY CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID IT.
Do not take her class! She comes in late all the time, her practice problems are not the same difficulty as the ones on the test, and she sometimes gets her TA to grade exams which are wrong most of the time! I honestly didn't believe previous comments saying she was a bad teacher, but now I know from experience!
Great teacher. Do the hw daily, the webassign spread out amongst a few days AND REVIEW. Tests are not hard per say but they cover everything that she has talked about. If you are a student that doesnt/cannot prepare, this is not a class for you. 84%-100 = A for a reason
I am sure she is probably a great person.. outside of class. The question she assigns as homework are nothing like the questions on the test. She has a "if you don't get it then oh well" type of attitude, she even told one of my friends that he should NOT be an accountant! Take anyone but her, PLEASE

Worst professor at vcu, she does not care about any of her students, the notes she gives do not match up. If you are thinking about taking her for calculus , good luck.
I have never got a 10% in a class before but this class be prepared to have below a 50% if you're not a genius in math.

Probably hardest class I have ever taken. The last test I took, I saw two kids in the class cry (no joke). I studied as hard as I could, did all the homework, the web assign, and the tests were always 15x harder than what we did in class. If you have her, GOOD LUCK!
Annie, Annie, Annie. Not a bad person but not a great math teacher to say the least. Exams are short and VERY hard. Professor not clear AT ALL, often states she's an economist not a mathematician -_- You may get very annoyed if you like to ask questions like me because she can't answer them. It's already a hard class, my advice, AVOID HER !
Professor Stith-Willis is a very nice lady, HOWEVER this was the hardest class I've ever taken. She speeds through her lectures and if you ask for more clarity on a problem then she will just explain it the same exact way. Her test are usually no more than 12 questions but they are ridiculously hard. Avoid her if you can!!
This class was the bane of my existence. Stith-Wilis's teaching style is just not that great, all she does is stand in front of the class doing example problems and then kind of seems annoyed when students ask questions.
Awesome teacher. I wasn't able to present final project on given date, but she let me give it on another day. A lot of extra credit given so it will help you to bring your grade up.
She doesn't help with anything, her tests are long and you aren't given a decent amount of time for them. Tough grader, goes through stuff very quickly, is very difficult to talk to, has no concern for her students or their grade. You can still try and fail in this class.
So, I attended every single one of her classes, did all webassigns, and did all of my homework. I worked really hard to get a passing grade and it isn't going to happen. She is extremely difficult and just stands up there and goes through a problem and calls it a day. Unless you already know that you are a wiz in calculus, do not take her. Please.
Seems to be a decent person. Test are tough, even if you studied and use a note card. Homework and classwork rarely matches up with test. Please take with any other professor at vcu to avoid getting a unpassable grade.

Professor Stith-Willis wants you to do well in her class, but her lectures are a little dry due to the topic. Homework is easy, but there's typically at least one assignment a week. Tests are mc with a few short answers. If you read the textbook before tests and show up to class, you'll be fine.
She is a good teacher and gives out great notes and homework, but she gives extremely difficult test. The test are only about 7 questions long so each question is worth a lot of points. On one test one question was worth 25 points. Do her homework because that's what the test are like.
For a communications professor, she's not good at communicating. She doesn't give a class schedule at the beginning of the semester, and if she does give one, it's confusing and she doesn't stick to it anyway. She's often late, and tends to talk down to people. She also gave a course evaluation as part of a test, which I'm unsure is appropriate.

Attendance is kinda necessary, but only if you like feeling like you are wasting your life away. Read the textbook .
The worst professor I've ever had. Very dry and rude to her students. She won't explain things if you ask. Her lectures are SO BORING, and kind of mandatory because she'll throw in a pop quiz every once and a while. Her homework is nothing like her tests. The class average was a D and she said that was expected. Take Mrs. Bryd and you'll be fine.
Honestly if there was a negative I would save it for her. Calculus is already a difficult subject and she offers NO help. You ask her to explain and she'll say the same thing you didn't understand the first time. She claims her tests are straight from the homework and web assigns... they aren't. Unless you like D's or F's stay away from her. Awful.
Grading unclear, emails sent to her are often ignored, asking for help results in the same confusing explanation as before, office hours are short and she sometimes isn't even there for them. Homework is due randomly, tests have material not covered by her, lectures are dull and unhelpful, brutal pop quizzes, hard work doesn't mean a good grade.
Dr. Stith-Willis is a really good professor and cares about how all of her students are doing. The problems she goes through during lecture are usually always on the test. She does a good job of going over the problems and answering any questions students have. The work load is not piled on and everything she assigns is helpful for the exam.
Lectures are not helpful at all. Lectures do not reflect tests (tests are far more difficult). Prepare to learn on your own and get ready for tests beyond the difficulty of any webassign problem you do. Also, I had 50 minutes classes with Willis, the tests she makes require far more time than that(if you want to do well).
I took SCMA 212 with Stith-Willis last spring and cried actual tears more than once due to my frustration with her lack of teaching and even social skills. She was rude to students with questions and she answers questions with the same confusing explanation as before. I got the feeling that she didn't care one bit whether or not anyone passed.
This Professor is by far the WORST Professor I think in VCU. Her teaching is all over the place and does not work well with students. She will make you look dumb, and not even answer it. If you have to take this class either take it at a community college to not only save money but submit your credits with a passing grade. Good luck though!
SCMA is already a hard course. Take her if you're prepared to ask many questions. Do her homework and attend class because its just like the exams. Utilize office hours if you need to. She is a caring professor but she's a tough grader and a iffy communicator but if you show her you care she is more responsive. Find a great study group
If you enroll in this class be ready to get an F. No partial credit so even of you get all of the math correctly then accidentally write the wrong number to the digit you will loose all 8-10 points.
She is a very nice person, but wasn't the greatest teacher - at least for me. She is accessible outside of class but it's hard to get help on a subject where you're not even sure what material you SHOULD know. Her style of teaching is definitely not for everyone. Everything was so confusing and this is coming from someone who got an A+ in SCMA171.

Never take Stith-Willis. Worst professor at VCU. If your class average in a test is low she blames the class and doesnt think its her fault at all. Does not answer questions or explain well.
Worst professor I have ever had here at VCU, and that is saying a lot. She blames the students for getting a bad grade on a test and says that "she doesn't understand why, I gave you all the test material on WebAssign". When in actuality it is completely different, leaves me feeling more confused after seeking help. Do NOT take her!!!!
One of the worst professors I've had at VCU. For any given assignment she gives at least two differing due dates- I spent my time in this class in a constant state of confusion. After reaching out multiple times to get some clarification on things, she responded in a short, crass manner. She does not exhibit any sort of professionalism.
If you have her you are screwed. She is really nice as a person but a cold and tough professor. She answers emails quickly but. Your grade is based off of a final which is crazy. good luck
