Wow. I have never hated a teacher so much. Very first day and she locked the door on numerous people just a minute after class began. Yelled at me in front of the class because i started my assignment before class started. Still doesnt make sense to me. Terrible teacher. I would not ever recommend. Though about switching after the second day.
ms goodman is a old pfizer worker, she has no experince with teaching whatsoever. she came from working in a lab making medicine to teaching a lecture and lab. i would say half of our class dropped the first 2 weeks. the class moves at a very fast pace with lots of information. she is better to learn from one on one. she was rude to people late
TERRIBLE teacher!!!! Said she would help with anything if we needed it, not true. And i could never understand what she was trying to say. Half of the time students would prove her wrong. I ended up dropping the class, the first 3 tests at least half of the class failed. Do not take her!
many frustrated people in this class ended up dropping it before completing. She does not have teaching ability. You need a Master's Degree in Chem in order to take the Intro Organic class she teaches!!!
Mrs Goodman is an extremely difficult professor. She may be a chemist, but she is definately not a teacher!
she trys to make her self feel smarter by proving students wrong... hello we know shes going to be better at this stuff then us, she is the teacher. Also she tells us the incorrect information all the time. She gave us an incorrect answer guide to study for our quiz. I had to go correct her during office hours right befor the quiz. NOT HELPFUL!!
She is a good teacher. Fair and to the point, she does not like to waste time and wants to get it done.
She can't teach for crap... the reason you use so much of the text book is beacuse you HAVE to teach yourself out of it. I never feel welcomed in the class. Sometimes we are expected to know a few things "just because" but not know the reason behind the theory... which is what chemistry is really about.
It is important for you to know how helpful it is when you go through the steps to the problems, even elementary ones. It has helped me understand the material much better. Please continue to use this method in future classes. I must say you are very professional, not to mention very gracious and accommodating to us.
I think ppl need to chill, All teachers have there bad days and the fact we are in a univ. makes sense that we are going to have to do alot on our own. I take her toughness just a push to do better and to try harder. The material is hard not the teacher......
I really enjoy her class. She is tough but that is because she cares that we learn the material. She makes lectures fun and puts many learning checks into her lectures to see if we understand the material. The homework really helps prepare me for tests and quizzes.
Please keep in mind that the material is tough not the teacher. I think she is giving us as a class allot of opportunity to do well. She is fair and she is just pushing us to do better. I THINK SHE IS AWSOME.
Too man tests!she finds her mistakes after she makes the tests and interrupts the class while we're taking the exam and rambles on during the exam and allows the finished students to talk while other students are not finished with the exam its like be quiet and let us take the exam and tell the finished students to leave if they want to talk
I had professor Goodman for lab. She does require her students to be on time but that is because the lab period is so short. It should be extended to 3 hrs. I like that she locks the door after lab starts. I want to know that the other students have heard her safety talk. EMU has a high theft rate so locking the door helps with that.
I dont like that shes testing us right b4 thanksgiving none of my other teachers are doing that she may not celebrate it but people usually travel before T-DAY we have many tests she could wait on this one on top of that shes giving us extra credit homework during the break give us the homework now so we can turn it in b4 the break if we want
She definitely tries her hardest to teach the best way she can. I like the learning checks she puts in the middle of lectures to make sure we understand what's going on. I also like the in-class practices that review the material. It's a hard class, but that's only because she knows that it's important for students to understand the material.
Mrs. Goodman is an excellent instructor, she really wants everyone to do well the class has a lot of information so you have to stay on top of things or you will fall behind, I wish more teachers were like her.
GAVE A LOAD OF WORK OVER THANKSGIVING BREAK THINKS THE BREAK IS ONLY TO STUDY CHEMISTRY SHE IS THE ONLY TEACHER THAT GAVE HOMEWORK OVER BREAK WE HAVE A TEST NEARLY EVERY CLASS AND SHE THINKS SHE IS DOING US A FAVOR BY GIVING US TAKE HOME EXAMS,BUT THE EXAMS ARE VERY HARD SHE TRIES TO DO TOO MUCH SHE NEEDS TO SHORTEN THE NUMBER OF EXAMS
on final exam day we turned in a 7 page quiz that makes no sense we shouldve been finished with this stuff by exam final day if not we should have skipped it she goes at moderate pace at the beginning then teaches 3 chapters in 2 classes the way she teaches the class shows her incompetence Yes the class is hard she makes it harder
I have not taken a chemistry class since high school, 5 years ago & I thought she did a great job teaching. Orgo is a hard subject, there's no getting around that. Some of these comments are just ridiculous- of course a take home exam is going to be harder, you get to use your book to find the answers! Go to class and do the hw & you'll get an A.
Wow people this is college, NOT highschool. I took 4 other classes in addition to this one and still got an A. Professor Goodman is one of the best professors I've ever had, I'd take her again if I could. Her powerpoints are great and I really like that we get to keep our quizzes and exams so we can use them to study, not many teachers do that.
She was by far the worst professor I've ever had. She had another section of the same class while I took her course and she told us she made our exams harder than her other section because she thought she should challenge us but not the other class. There is homework everynight, take home exams over breaks, and the exams often do not reflect clas
She definitely is not a teacher you want to take if you aren't strong in chemistry. She makes a lot of mistakes and is kind of all over the place with rules and exams/quizzes. Our syllabus got moved around a ton and she just reads her powerpoints and thats about it. She is very nice and willing to help you out if you miss class or are confused.
I have to agree with most of the comments made about Prof. Goodman. Do not take her for Lab. The assignments were fair but she doesn't know how to talk to people. Several times she yelled at her GAs in front of the class. NOT a people person at all. Sometimes you have to let her know that although your a student your still an adult.
She is not helpful at all I went to her office hours and she told me I should already know the material I asked for help on. She is rude. If you aren't good at chem you probably aren't good enough to even breath the same air she does
She was a very nice person and really wanted to do her best, but she was very disorganized, unclear, and made countless mistakes. She did give out a lot of practice though and really tried to help us learn. She just didn't have a great way of teaching and she made it hard to know what to study when she gave us so many random handouts.
She may be a nice person sometimes, but she is extremely disorganized and makes way too many mistakes in class, on tests, and on quizzes. I had to teach myself most of the material. She screams during class because she thinks we can't hear her. If you are not really strong in chemistry, I highly suggest you take someone else.
She doesn't explain things very well. She tries hard to explain but is very disorganized and rushes through material if she does not have time. Had to teach myself most of the material. The only thing I liked about the class was she gave out a lot of easy hw that was worth a lot of points so make sure to buy the book!
I hate to say bad things, but she is very difficult to get information from. She rushes at the end of the semester with all the hard material, but went slow at the beginning with easy stuff. Because she is rushing (2-4 chapters at a time) she doesn't let people ask questions. Basically taught myself from the book and took the tests. =(
Professor Goodman is an outstanding lecturer and does not deserve these harsh comments. These whiners spent more time on this rating than on the class? MY questions were answered, even on weekends. I found her handouts VERY helpful, perhaps YOU are disorganized? She is very generous with ec and points were freely awarded when she made any error.
Prof. Goodman (G) is a good teacher. U can tell G puts in a lot of time and effort because of that she does make mistakes. G is human. Learn from her mistakes. G treats her students like high school students bc they act like hs students & make comments on this site u would expect from hs students that don't take responsibility 4 their own learning
This prof tried really hard to make a difficult subject passable to her students. She is very fair with grading, gives practice exams and study guides. Definitely buy the book. Do not take this class if you do not have a strong chem background. She does not have the time in class to answer questions but she had multiple office hours and was helpful
Professor Goodman is a really hard working teacher who truly wants her students to pass. Homework is worth a big part of her class which is nice if you don't do well on her tests. I got a C+ in her class, which is not great, but it is a hard class and she really helped me get to that point. She goes above and beyond with her efforts. Recommended!
Prof. Goodman is an excellent teacher. She is very knowledgeable and works extremely hard. Through assigning homework, quizzes, and practice exams, she makes students master the learning objectives easily and be well prepared for exams. After taking her class, I have become very interested in organic and biochemistry and I have learned a lot.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She has no idea how to be a teacher and changed the grade scale after the class was over. She also talks down to students while laughing about how it's OUR FAULT if we're doing poorly. Her exams and quizes do not follow review guides or practice tests. I can not believe so many people rated her highly, I'm guessing that th
She really cares for her students. She gave ample opportunity to score well in her class. She was very organized.. She had a blue folder that she brought to class and could always pick out a handout we were using quickly. Recommended.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She talks down to students, treats them like children, and changed the grade scale at the last minute. She is one of the worst eachers I've ever had. She makes lots of mistakes on tests, rushes through material, and loses homework assignments. I highly regret taking her class even though I somehow managed to get an A.
This was a very difficult class for me seeing as i had no prior Chemistry history. Prof. Goodman was very helpful in giving out a lot of extra study materials and being very clear as to what was needed to know. She gave every student more then enough opportunity to get an A if you really wanted it.
Awesome professor! She makes a hard subject interesting and easy. She cares about students and treats students fairly. Her teaching of the class made me actually enjoy the subject and the class. If you are willing to spend time studying her lecture contents, completing the homework, and reviewing quizzes & exams, you will do well.
Anise Goodman might know Chemistry inside and out, but is quite possibly the worst professor I have ever encountered. Plan on teaching yourself a majority of the material as the lectures typically are unorganized and scattered. You have to ask what a professors motivations are when they state you are not allowed to reference other profs for help.
I did not find this prof disorganized. There is a LOT of material in the course and if you stay on top of it, you will find that the organizational problems are due to individual students not wanting to study as hard as they should. Its a hard course no matter who is the prof. I would def take her course again. She gave lots of extra explanations!
I think prof Goodman over all is a good prof. She really wants her students to learn and I feel as though she goes above and beyond when it comes to making sure people understand the material. Good examples of this is her review sessions before exams and practice exams to study from. If you took advantage of the extra help then exams were easier.
Overall I thought Prof. Goodman was a bit disorganized but it was pretty obvious that she cared about her students and wanted them to succeed which is a bit more important than the few mistakes she made on exams. She offered review sessions before exams and gave us practice exams and quizzes to study from - pretty helpful in my opinion.
Professor was a nice person and tried her best, but her lectures made me stupid. My grade experienced a huge incline (C-A) when I stopped attending lectures and devoted all my time to studying on my own.
not a good teacher, disorganized. all u have to do to get an A is take the ch. objectives that she gives you and go through them with the book and make sure you understand them and study the prac quizes, and exams and you will be fine dont bother looking at her slides they will only confuse you more and try to follow her lectures but if u cant its
She was AWESOME. One of the best profs I've ever had (2nd degree student). She went above and beyond her job so that we could have extra materials to help US. She puts in alot of time and so should you-- it's a hard class. I got an A without trouble. Go to class, do the hw, ask questions. She WANTS to help!
This professor is nderstanding. I have had many obstacles with chem even when I studied, and changed my study habits, getting a tutor etc. The most helpful part are office hours, its impossible to understand everything that's given in one lecture. Some students are not good at taking exams. Get an uderstanding w/the professor. Use The Office Hours.
She is a devoted teacher and knows her stuff. She teaches at a level you can understand, especially since she used to teach high schoolers. If you can't make it to her offce hours, you can make arrangements with her because she makes herself available to help you succeed. She's very understanding of circumstances.
She talks wayyy too fast and expects wayyy too much reading. It's very obvious she is passionate about chemistry but too excited because she goes SO fast and covers TOO much in TOO little of time. Constant struggle, thank goodness for tutors!
literally has to be the most annoying teacher i had all semester. avoid.
She is not so bad. She does go fast, but that's the nature of the course. She gives lots of opportunity for extra points and most quizzes are online. The homework is online and you only have to get 80% to get all your points. If you do the work and go to SI sessions you'll do well.
Professor Goodman is a very nice person, but an absolutely HORRIBLE TEACHER! She talks at the speed of light, not giving the students a chance to grasp the information. Additionally, she DOES NOT TEACH. She doesn't teach or explain concepts, she just regurgitates information. In her examples, she uses shortcuts without explaining what she's doing.
She DOES NOT TEACH! Plan on teaching yourself; YouTube, Google, etc. Get a tutor who teaches. Goodman just spews information with absolutely no explanation. She talks so fast she stumbles over her words. Very unorganized and scattered. A very nice lady but the absolute worst professor I've had in 3 years of college!
She is a teacher who cares,& goes out of her way to make sure each student has the chance to get an A if they take it. She does give a lot of hw but it helps,it makes sure your on task and can keep up with the info. There are 7 quizzes and 6 exams, you can drop one of each, there are many e.c chances, she gives out study material, she is awesome!
Engaging prof genuinely interested in your success. Offers pre-exam reviews on her own time. Gives you all the tools you need to succeed in this difficult class. Heavy HW component assists in learning. Ample EC opportunities. Drops 1 quiz & exam. Sometimes speaks quickly to cover the material but she is very helpful. Take her and you'll learn chem!
Goodman is one of the first professors I have ever met that actually cares. You have to read the book and do the homework but she will keep you on track. She e-mails you all semester and makes it very clear what is going to be on the exams. She puts a lot of effort into the success of her students....very impressive.
Professor Goodman presents the material quick and concise. She is always available for questions and help, and truly wants her students to succeed. The student needs to work hard to do well, and is challenged with a lot of difficult material.
She is an AMAZING prof. She puts a lot of time into her classes.Responds quickly to emails & texts! Very clear in what she expects. Grades are back FAST. The class itself is HARD and covers A LOT of material, so she does go fast, however each lecture is recorded and you can rewatch lectures. She curves exams, gives ample EC opportunities.
She is dreadful. I dont at all recommend her course for the following reasons: 1.She is highly unapproachable & responds to your questions with a laugh like your stupid and she holds herself higher and better than everyone. 2.She never utilizes the textbook and makes you buy two expensive homework sites. 3)She is vague & does not go over problems.
Professor goodman has been my favorite professor in my two years at college. The material covered is very challenging but she is the most helpful person and wants everyone to succeed. Going to her office hours will help you tremendously if you are struggling. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs to take chem 120.
Prof. Goodman puts a lot of time and effort into her class. She provides ample amount of opportunity for students to succeed (office hours, extra credit, helpful homework assignments, take home exams, etc). The course is difficult and I feel grades directly reflect efforts put forth. Goodman is empathetic and passionate-I'd recommend her to others.
This class is most definitely a weeder class. You have to put in the work to get the grade. There is plenty of extra credit to supplement the assignments. The Sapling and Learnsmart are very helpful. Professor Goodman really cares about her students and ensuring they have every opportunity to be successful. She is really helpful. Great Class
Professor Goodman was very good at providing hands on learning. She utilized online assignments as well as in class or written assignments. Her visuals were extremely helpful in understanding the concepts. She gives an ample amount of extra credit to supplement the coursework. You have to work hard but she helps it be as smooth as possible.
Professor Goodman really cares about students and is always available for help! This class overall was very challenging for me but I feel if I would have taken it with any other professor I would have failed. If you are not a strong test taker I highly recommend her! She utilizes a lot of different resources to accommodate everyones needs.
Professor Goodman is an excellent professor. The class is very challenging, but she works very hard to make sure that the people that try succeed.I could tell she truly cared about the students. The class takes up a lot of time if you want to do well, but this is the most I have ever learned in a class.
I couldn't think more highly of Professor Goodman. She really wants students to succeed & it shows. She goes above & beyond to put in her own extra time to help students. If you go to class, listen, attend her review sessions, there is no reason you shouldn't at least get a B. Tough material, but do the above stated. Awesome, awesome teacher!
I took Professor Goodman for Chem 134 and Chem 136 and I can honestly say she was very helpful and cared about teaching her students. She lets us contact her outside of class if we need help and that was very convenient. I recommend taking her. You won't regret it.
Great teacher, I would definitely recommend taking this class with her if you need to take CHEM 120! She gives a lot of work and grades very fair. If you do the work and what she tells you, you will receive a good grade.
She gives tons of homework, but does not explain well in class. Makes you buy 2 online sites, barely uses one, and doesn't have good instructions on how to do the homework on the other site. She also makes you buy her course pack, which is very unorganized, it is very messy, was missing tons of information and was not put together properly.
Professor Goodman is a nice lady once you get to know her. She is passionate about chemistry and really knows her stuff. Be prepared to have to work hard, about 20+ hours of studying, practicing, online work and homework packets a week, and attending classes, office hours, and extra review sessions will definitely help you out!
She really cares about her students, does everything she can to help you pass. If you need help, she is up 247 helping, 1 group office hr, 1 group test review, 1 office hr. Call, text, email, Skype for help. She will help you as best as she can. She knows her stuff, lenient on grading.
She will pass you if really you really work for your grade, but is not very good at teaching.
I think she is a great teacher, but don't expect to get a good grade in this class if you don't do the work. She goes fast sometimes but she has group sessions and study guide sessions that grant you more help if you need it. She gives so much homework but the more practice you get, the better you will do on the exams. Her extra credit helps too!
I'm not finished with this course yet, overall it was not too bad. I was scared of the course in the beginning because it was SO much work and it is truly hard!! There are 5 exams and then a final. I have texted her a bunch of times for help and she is always there. I also had her for lab and that was a great course as well! Shes tough but good.
The lectures are long and there is a lot of homework, but in the end I feel like it was how I learned most of the material. There are a lot of different, confusing assignments but she is aways there by text and email for questions. She is a fair grader and puts a lot of effort into her lectures. Would recommend! I think the work is worth it!
Goodman knows her stuff, but would not recommend her. lots and lots of homework for barely any points. Not clear when lecturing and talks/moves really really fast! does offer a lot of extra credit but its things like 50 questions for 2 points (plus its graded). Test are very tough! Quizzes are online which is nice.
Although many people disliked her because all the work she gave, Proffesor Goodman was an awesome teacher! If you blame this class on her, blaming it on the university. It is a course that is supposed to be 2 semesters but crams 15 chapters in 15 weeks. She's always available via email and text for help. She gives you the resources to get an A.
All the homework assigned is key to helping you understand the material! If you study the resources (HW, PPT, coursepack) she gives you, you will be successful. In this class anyone can do well, it all depends on how hard you are willing to work. She makes herself available to all students at any time and truly cares. She really is a good teacher.
A majority of the student present in the class were there for Nursing, or a specific program. This class could be challenging, but very similar to what you could expect if you progressed in that direction. There is a lot of material, but Professor Goodman does a nice job of trying to you to understand it by volume. Quite a bit of homework.
This is a challenging class but if you complete the hw and put in the effort, you will do extremely well. Professor Goodman is always willing to help and puts forth a lot of time for office hours, review sessions and extra credit assignments which I recommend taking advantage of. Study the course pack and the power points to do well on the exams.
Professor Goodman only wants what's best for her students. Although she assigns a lot of homework, the homework and extra credits are very helpful to prepare you for exams. Despite the lectures being a bit rushed sometimes, she is always available to help outside of class whether it's through texts, emails and group/individual sessions.
CHM 120 is a tough class! She does a great job lecturing, using technology to quiz the class to see if we "get it"& reteaches when needed. Assigns lots of hw, quizzes, ex.c., etc. so u have plenty of practice!Goes above & beyond to be helpful! Wants u to do well!Work hard & u will do well!Use her office hrs! Go to review sessions!Very helpful prof!
There are a lot of websites she uses but it is to only benefit the student. You can obtain an A if you do the work she says. I only did what she assigned including the extra credit and received an A without any extra studying. Go to office hours and ask questions if you need to. She puts in more work than any professor I have ever seen.
There is a lot of information covered, but it's easy to keep up with or even work ahead on. Prof. Goodman does a good job of dividing up the information and stating a study plan that works (see syllabus). As long as you dedicate the time and follow her method there should be no issues getting a high grade in this course.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! Whatever you do, stay away from this professor. I am in her class right now and I have never struggled more in my life in a class. She gives in immense amount of homework that is unneeded and you have to buy a lot of extra materials for the class. I might even end up withdrawing from the class.
I'm currently in her CHEM 120 class and it's very difficult!!! She assigns a hefty amount of homework / there's 5 exams / quizzes about every week. But if you need help she will, but she does more of a teach yourself/ you should already know this. So if you struggle in the beginning you will do nothing but drown for the rest of the semester!!!
Horrible instructor , don't take her be warned!!!!!!!
Though you do get a lot of homework for the class, it is much needed! The material is hard and from what I've heard, people taking other chem teachers are mostly failing. I recommend taking her lecture and lab. Always available to help and emails back quickly. I highly recommend if you are serious about getting an A ,she makes you know the material
Lots of work - but BENEFICIAL. You work for a grade in this class. If you take it with any other prof, you won't get as much work - but you won't understand any of the material. She makes sure you understand, emails back quickly, and helps as much as she can. EC only a few pts, but in this class EVERY point counts. The work really is for YOU. 10/10
Professor Goodman really does care about her students and wants to make sure that they really understand the material, rather than just memorize it. With that being said, expect to have at least an hour or more of homework/studying ever single night. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT SHE OFFERS. Lectures can be lengthy and rushed often, but she records them.
Goodman is determined for success for all of her students. She will sometimes get angry if you aren't trying in her class. She sets up a lot of group office hours and has a review session for every test. She assigns a lot of homework and practice so that you get the material down. She is very clear and good at explaining, but goes fast at times.
She requires that students purchase loads of unnecessary materials. Assigns a ton of homework and piles on assignments. Goes very fast in lessons but still ends up very behind other classes. Does not accommodate to the students and is very strict.
Annise is an outstanding professor, she made this class interesting and challenging. She gives a lot of homework, but it is only to help you as this class requires a lot of practice to do well. She genuinely cares about her students and their efforts. I would highly recommend taking her!!
In order to take Professor Goodman's chemistry 120 course you MUST buy an $70 coursepack, Connect, and Sapling. costing well over $200 just for course materials. But it was well worth it. If I didn't have these materials (like all the other chem courses) it would be so much harder to get through class. The coursepack is a savior! Shes great!
Professor Goodman offers a lot of extra credit that is not only helpful towards your grade but will also help you understand the material better. Chem 120 is a very tough course and she offers tons of guidance to help her students. She offers group office hours where you can either work with other students or you can have one on one help .
this was the hardest class ive ever taken! before you take this class take chem 177. there is a bunch of homework - you can never catch a break. if you need help she has office hours, but when i went to get help she yelled at me for not knowing how to do it. never went back to her office hours again.
Prof. Goodman is an amazing professor. No matter who you take this class with, it is going to be very difficult material. She offers a lot of homework, but it seriously helps so much for exams. She also offers practice exams which are very similar to her real exams. She is very accessible outside of class too! Tough class, great professor!
VERY DIFFICULT CLASS! You will work for your grade in this class. Professor Goodman assigns a lot of homework, but it helps during exams. No matter who you take Chem 120 with, it is one of the hardest classes offered at EMU on the undergraduate level so be prepared.
One of the worst labs I have ever taken. I've worked harder in this lab than in most of my lectures. There are notebook checks(for lab report write ups) and prelab quizzes almost every time you come to lab(2x week). There are workshops(in lab worksheets), & a presentation the same week as the lab final. I would drop if I didn't graduate next year.
Terrible terrible terrible.
The worst lab professor. Doesn't care much about her students. Plans vacations in the beginning of the semester. Makes you do extra work that doesn't teach you anything, its just busy work which takes up your time. You are better off taking it with Wilmes or Watson.
Professor Goodman is a stellar professor who is 100% willing to help anyone who is prepared for class and is willing to learn. She really does care about her students and is able to teach the labs and concepts effectively. She may seem strict at first, but she just wants you to be prepared. She is a caring person and I could not recommend her more.
