literally awful. expects you to be a geneticist going into this class. doesnt do zoom lessons but instead uploads videos the morning we are supposed to have class & these videos take 2-3 hours to get through bc she talks so fast. she cant hold a conversation or explain anything at all.
Professor Rose is a very intelligent woman but does not know how to explain herself and her lessons in a way her students can understand. A new lesson is added almost everyday with about 2 hrs of lecture and notes for each one. Tests are nothing like quizzes and are very difficult to understand. Do not take unless you're a pro with genetics.
I am making an A in this class, but my mental health has definitely paid the price for that. You spend 2-3 hours just getting through her lecture videos and an additional 2-3 studying the notes for the day. Dr. Rose just genuinely does not understand how time consuming her lectures are. You have a quiz every weel and SO MUCH MATERIAL ON EACH EXAM
Annkatrin obviously knows a lot about the subject she's teaching: the problem is that she expects her students to as well. Her online courses are well structured but not accessible; her YouTube videos are incredibly quick and are often missing captions so you can't read along (which I need). Tests are significantly harder than quizzes.
I don't get why she has so many bad reviews, she was an amazing prof. We had class through the form of "lessons" that were about three short videos (5-15min) with some questions mixed in. There were weekly quizzes and A LOT of extra credit opportunities. She was also very helpful outside class - DEF recommend!!
The review below me is a bold face lie. Rose is awful and will literally make you want to up your hair out & this is coming from someone who is making a 99 in her class. You will spend hours on hours studying and still not feel confident in the material. If you can, take this class with Estep.
It is fairly easy to get distracted during her lectures. She is great at providing feedback and giving extra credit!
Dr. Rose gave online quizzes and many extra credit opportunities to help our grades. LEAD tutoring helps, so it is best to attend those sessions because the material gets tough.
Dr. Rose is a very nice person but I have never had to do so many assignments for ONE class in my life! The course is scored out of 1,000 points with 10-15 lengthy lessons per unit with test questions embedded in them, 3-4 quizzes per unit, 4 exams, and 1 final. It's all too much to do for ONE class, especially during the summer. ALL BUSY WORK!
Great professor and gave countless extra credit opportunities. Exams get tough towards the end. She likes to ask questions that make you apply what you have learned to problem-solve on exams.
Professor Rose is a very smart women and had also gone into great detail to organise her class. However, those things do not make up for the dumpster fire of a month I just had. There's an insane amount of work expected to be done each week (she says 40 I say yeah that'd be nice) with 4 weeks of lessons from a normal semester pilled into 1 week.
She was a fine professor, her class wasn't the easiest, but you can tell she cares about what she is talking about.
Professors teaching was disappointing. Her lectures were disorganized and difficult to follow, leaving students confused about key concepts. Questions were often met with unclear answers, and feedback on assignments was inconsistent and unhelpful. Overall, her lack of preparation and communication made the course unnecessarily frustrating.
I had her for my Botany lab and she is caring and very nice, just not the greatest teacher. She is super intelligent, but it doesn't really translate to the students and it made for a tough semester in the lab. I managed to do okay in her lab, but wish she could make teaching the information feel a little more human I guess.
Dr Rose is a very sweet lady but she can't teach. I've asked for help a few times and she's never given me a clear answer without going to look at her answer sheet. She often makes mistakes if you ask her for help outside of class.
I don't have enough bad things to say about this lady. She is elderly, has extremely outdated teaching style, is boring, does nothing but read off a 70 slide PowerPoint pres., and overall is probably the least helpful, least understanding, most incomprehensible professor I've ever had at this school. If you have to take her, good luck. Awful class!
Truly one of the most brutally awful professors I've ever had. I highly recommend not taking this class. Tests are extremely difficult and they're all on material you've never seen in your entire life because she doesn't teach anything. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you have to take her, good luck.
This rating is undeserving of a 1. She doesn't respond to emails. She reads off slides and gives practice problems unrelated to the test content. She makes you feel stupid when you don't understand. She changed the grading format during finals week. Do not take her class if you can. Please do not waste your time; you will regret it.
LEAD tutor didn't help. Everyone was always confused. People would do well on tests but only because they were good guessers, so if have the skill of guessing well, this class is for you. I left this class having felt like I learned nothing. Do not take if you can.
Very sweet lady, but unfortunately just cannot teach to save her own life. Her lecture style is awful, boring, and overall the most difficult sit through you could ever imagine. Tests are extremely difficult, with no real prep or guide sent out whatsoever for them. Overall a horrible teacher who gave me a horrible experience in this class.
Truly the bottom of the barrel for the AppState biology department. This professor is a literal robot that does nothing but read off 100+ powerpoint slides every class and make the most infuriating little giggle if you ask a question. With her little "clicker questions" that do literally nothing for you, this class is one of the worst I've ever had
Class could be taught better by a an actual robot instead of the robotic horrible teaching we have received this entire semester. Awful class, awful professor, although she is a nice lady, which makes writing this a little painful.
This is the first time I have seen a class where an optional retake can harm your grade. She replaces the lowest test grade, whether you do better or not, to avoid students from using the retake as practice for the final. She is very boring and makes frequent mistakes.
By FAR the worst teacher I have had here. Her tests are hard, and she does not do well in preparing students to take them. I learned far more by doing work outside of class. I would have stopped going to class as it is useless but she has clicker questions each class which are graded.
Dr. Rose is terrible. Her tests are super hard and she seems offended that students miss the "easy" questions that she has "shown" us before in a clicker. Clicker questions are set on a timer that gives you no time to answer the question correctly. You are graded on these, so most people just guess before even attempting to work out the question.
Avoid this professor for this class. When I told my friend I was taking her because she was the only section they advised me to wait and see who teaches it in the spring/summer. I wish I had listened to them rather than struggling through this class. She does not prepare you for this class.
I chose this class because I had extra hours I needed to fill to be a full-time student. By far the hardest class I have been in. Dr. Rose does not prepare you for this course. She makes it very hard to stay engaged. I wish I had not taken it.
I took this class as an extra bio that I needed for further schooling. It was unnecessarily hard. She offers extra credit, but it does very little to help. I did ok in the class but it was not with the help of dr rose. I had to spend time doing stuff on my own and I often learned topics thanks to the lab professor during 5 minute prelab lectures.
Dr. Rose has an attendance policy, so you have to be there. I, along with most people in front of me would use this time to do other things as listening to her was very confusing. She can not teach the material well and would often make mistakes. Even though there was an attendance policy, the room was usually half full when it was not an exam day.
Dr rose was not a good teacher. I thought that the TA might be able to help but they were also terrible. I have never seen a duo that has made more mistakes in a semester and I have had a few first-time teachers. Her syllabus is wrong, your lowest exam grade does not get dropped!
I thought Dr rose must be a first time teacher because they usually struggle a little bit. I did not check her rating before this class. I found out she has been teaching for over a decade, which was shocking. She gives answers to questions in the worst possible way and often makes it even more confusing.
Her exams are exceptionally hard and does very little to help, and her lectures are all over the place. For the entire semester, we were told in the syllabus that she would drop the lowest exam grade, just for her to tell us at the end of the semester that that was not true, and that we can take an optional retake at the risk of harming our grade.
Dr. rose is not a great teacher. She gives unclear answers and her syllabus is wrong. She had 3 exams which on the syllabus it says lowest is dropped. It's not and her “retake/makeup” exam hurts your if you do worse on it as she replaces the grade either way to avoid students from taking it as a practice for the final.
Her test are very hard and there isn't really a good way to prepare. Her lectures felt like a really big waste of time and she went super in depth on stuff that wasn't on the test and left out things that were. She gives like 3 extra credit opportunities but they didn't help out too much.
Dr rose does not prepare you for her tests. They are extremely hard. She uses scratch off sheets so you have an opportunity to earn some points back but honestly they make the tests even more stressful. If she didn't do that though her test average would be horrendous because the average for the first test was almost a D.
During our final review session Dr. rose seemed annoyed that people struggled on “easy” questions or missed questions she said she had showed us before. Maybe if she didn't give us 10 seconds on clicker questions people might remember them!
I did not mean to his yes I would take again on the previous. Dr. rose also does a terrible job preparing us for tests. Most of the questions are about topics I don't feel like we covered well enough. She is also very hard to listen to for over an hour as she is not engaging at all and frequently makes mistakes
I wish I waited till the spring for a different professor. Dr rose is a nice lady but she CAN NOT teach at all. I feel super unprepared for all of the tests.
Dr. rose is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She does not prepare you for her impossible tests. She also makes the class harder than necessary by having clicker questions on a timer. You are graded on them and half the time you can not work out the problem before the poll locks and you can not answer, which hurts your grade.
I have had this professor for a previous course (lab) and throughly enjoyed her teaching style which was the push for me to take her for genetics. BIG MISTAKE! She has been unclear this entire semester with her grading criteria, confusing lectures, lack of prep for exams, and lack of communication. She has a TA too, but he is not helpful one bit.
As if she isn't wasn't bad enough. My bus literally is NOT running and I can't make it to the final. I am not the only person who can't make it. Instead of being accommodating to everyone she has a headache and does not want to move the test online annd hasn't even made one even though she has had weeks to make a backup online test.
Dr rose is terrible. She is super unclear about everything. Her syllabus was wrong on multiple points. She had so many homework assignments and only mentioned that only 10 count within the last few weeks of class. Since she makes it sound like you need to do them I did them all because I already knew her syllabus was wrong about stuff.
Just... eugh. Please take this course with a different professor if you can.
Dr. Rose is the most god awful professor I have literally ever had. Can't teach at all, never prepared us for a single thing in the course, and as I finish it today I can honestly say I did learn one single thing through the whole semester. Dr. Rose, if you are reading this, please know that every student that took your course this semester hated u
Without getting too into detail, this is the worst professor in the entire biology department. Avoid at literally all costs unless you just hate yourself.
Just dropped the most cryptic email 3 hrs before the final. Not sure if my final is at 2 (even though there is a delay) or 3 when it is supposed to be as she said it only applies to ODR
Ohhhh nooo my head hurts too bad guys I'll have to drive through the ice and snow and force you all to do the same instead of making an online exam which would help everyone including myself. LOL, this class was a joke. Never take this professor.
This is hilarious watching everyone leave reviews on her for our last day of class with her. She has given us an awful semester and I think 90% of the students are leaving that class with zero knowledge of genetics whatsoever. Dr. Rose is awful, just awful.
Don't know if she had something personally going on this semester, but looking at these reviews alone it seems this has been the worst semester of her career. Thanks Dr. Rose, you made about 250 students hate genetics this year.
This was the most unprepared for a final I have ever been. The only reasons I was able to answer questions fairly well was because I took the time to learn everything outside of class and teach myself!
