This was a tough course, he warns everyone in the beginning that the class will not be easy. Spent a lot of hours studying for this class, he's a nice guy and wants you to pass but the class is tough.
Hes a nice teacher. He takes his time to have open lab hours, offers some EC & gives advice how to study but he's hard. This class feels like an advance class of anatomy. SOOO much information crammed into each test. He adds more physiology than I was expecting. His lecture test are harder than lab test. He makes you work hard for a good grade.
Super friendly teacher, gives lots of opportunities to boost up grade with small 2 point assignments and extra credit here and there. But tests are super hard, way too much info crammed into 1 test, teaches as if we were already know material well. If you put in the work though and start studying as soon as you learn the material, you should pass
From the get-go, he warns everyone that the class was going to be study-heavy, as it is a difficult subject. And because it's a tough subject, he provides us with the necessary tools to pass the class and ready to help students and answer their questions inside and out of class. He's also a very compassionate professor and is very approachable.
So Hsin is pretty unorganized to be honest. I had him the first part of the summer session(thankfully, bc Mellinger was awesome!!) It is hard to follow him, he basically points to stuff using a shakey camera and goes through things super quickly. He's hard to follow. I thankfully received a high B on his hardest lab practical and an A overall.
Pass on this professor! Horrible and so unorganized. He uses lectures from other professors classes and if you need clarification, the book will not help you bc his lectures/slides are the book. Hes a TOUGH grader and does not specify on what assignments are due/the requirements regarding them. I always study and still find his class SO difficult
professor Hsin is great, very nice guy but this class is HARD. Concepts are very difficult to understand, so be prepared to watch the videos he post on canvas. The material is really dense. I passed his anatomy with a B and I'm borderline B in his physio
Prof. Hsin will always want to answer any questions you have, and overall wants his students to pass. But fair warning, this class is quite difficult and will require a lot of studying. As long as you put in the effort, you can definitely get an "A". He also gives EC opp. to help boost up your grade, and makes time outside of class to help you.
Professor Hsin is a nice guy, but when it comes to teaching, this course is SO difficult. Physio itself is a tough subject, but Hsin's course is too much. The study guide provided for exams barely helps and makes you over study SO much. Be prepared to be self taught because Professor Hsin basically reads off his lecture slides.
Professor Hsin has good intentions and means well, but ultimately he expects you to know the amount of knowledge he knows on the subject. He's an over achiever and expects you to be one too. His study guides aren't useful whatsoever and is extremely knit-picky while grading. He'll definitely knock off a point if you forget to explain a minor detail
I would 100% not recommend this professor whatsoever. Half of his students drop his class, and for a reason. Hes very unorganized as a professor, and if you want to receive a good grade, youre going to have to self teach yourself. Hes an overachiever and will give you a 15 page study guide then cram 6 chapters into one unit test. Steer clear.
ANT and PHYS is already a though course but he will make it much harder! His lecture style does not help and what I hate the most are the study guides, it is just saying to study everything, every single detail. There's gotta be a better way on lecturing! He is a nice guy but you WILL work for that grade. 1 thing I like is he records the lectures.
Professor Hsin is soooo good!!! I highly recommend him!!! He always answers all your emails right away, posts grades within few days, and gives a lot of extra credit, which is nice since anatomy is tough. He also seems very passionate about the subject. One thing I like the most - his assignments were very creative and interesting!
He's nice and all but his class is extremely difficult. His study guides are literally every single slide. He wants you to memorize every single little thing. I do not recommend at all. His class consist of 4 test, quizzes, and labs. Half the class dropped or failed. I'm glad I didn't take him for anatomy but I do like how he records his lectures.
This class is perhaps the hardest thing I've ever taken. Hsin is very detailed to the point where you sometimes get discouraged. He demands a lot but At the end of the day he really just wants to impart excellence to his students. He is very sweet, but is very difficult. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND OFFICE HOURS and REALLY study always and everywhere
Tests are sooo hard! Try to find ur method and stick to it! Study everything after he teaches it. He Posts lecture videos which were my favorite part!! He is super detailed but if you ever don't get anything I would 100% recommend office hours. Try not to work as much or take hard classes with this. Better to take ur time than fail.
Professor Hsin is a good-hearted professor that really wants his students to pass. However, that's not the case. This is one of the toughest classes I've taken because there's so much information and his tests are really hard to pass. I went through most of the semester not understanding anything. I don't recommend his class, although I passed it.
Physio is a HARD course no matter who teaches the class. If you are expecting to go to nursing, med school, PT, etc, you need this class. Don't cut corners by taking the "easy" professor. There is no such person. Hsin is great but you need to work & study for your grade. I did and got a 96%. So stop complaining and just study for the medical field.
I would suggest taking this class if you do not have responsibilities and a social life. In fact, he even advises not to take this course if you are taking many classes or have a full time job. Study guides are 15-20 pages of uselessness and exams will have 6-7 chapters on it. I went out of my way to write this to warn my colleagues: dont take!
He is passionate & knowledgeable about anatomy. Offers extra credit. LONG LONG study guides (weeks to study). Crams as many chapters as possible into ONE class; he should spread them out. Lecture and lab exams on the same week, too. I BARELY got an A after overly stressing with my fluctuating grade all semester. Take this class alone if you can.
This class was quite difficult but professor Hsin is a great help and a good choice for a professor. He gives you powerpoints to fill in and records all his lectures to post on youtube which is very helpful. I recommend you take him. Just know that you have to put a lot of work in or you will not pass. There's a lot of memorization in this class.
If you're about to take Anson, all I can say is good luck. You're definitely in for one of the hardest classes of your life. You absolutely need to attend every single class. goodluck, dont die
I'm not bothered by his level of difficulty, it's his nitpicking of grades for every assignment, quiz, and exam. His knowledge of the subject and ability to answer questions is very limited. His grammar is very bad, too. Sadly, there aren't many options for physiology instructors. Take someone else if you can.
Professor - awesome dude and passionate of the subject . Class material - LOTS of memorization because a ton of material is covered. Professor Hsin will answer questions that you may have regarding the subject, he'll give you tips as to how to memorize certain systems and whatnot. You WILL have to work for the better grades.
Took him for anat and physiol. They weren't easy AT ALL. I struggled a lot to be able to keep my A's and B's. A lot of memorization, and application. However, he is super nice and sweet. He always tries to help his students as much as possible, go to his office hours or tutors for extra help. Go over his lecture notes well, AND STUDY HARD!!!
Survey says: pass on this professor. His grading criteria is not clear, he lacks empathy, and his lectures are just him reading off of slides.
Lab exams is the key to passing this with a good grade. Its all about reviewing constantly again and again with correct spelling. Lecture is a lot of detailed info i suggest writing them out to understand it better. Go to CAS and meet the tutors. He offers extra credit and i recommend doing every single one of it. Perfecting the LAB will save you!
He's just okay. Pretty disorganized.
Professor Hsin is a nice guy, however 4 units does not justify how much work you need to put into this class. If you have other responsibilities that doesn't prioritize this class as center of attention, DO NOT TAKE. I worked very hard in this class, and barley held on this semester. I read these comments before the semester, I should've listened.
He was a great professor really cares about all his students he lectures very well
He is a great professor
Take my review with a grain of salt as I only had him for a week before getting off the waitlist for a better prof. Holy moly is this guy intense. The endless amounts of info just from the first class made me fear him. Grateful I dropped. Took a random adjunct class and was glad I did.
Took Hsin for Physio and got a D. I retook physio with Saudi-Merchant and got an A. Choose wisely
Prof. Hsin is super devoted and very clear about his expectations. People griping about his picky grading need to realize that if they want to go into the medical field they need that level of rigor. Ignore complaints about the classes being hard, they should be hard ... and no one is working harder for your success than this instructor.
Sir does not even use the same materials provided in order to study for his tests. You can study everything and anything and still get a low grade.
Study guide is absolutely useless and his lectures are him just reading the slides. Not much extra credit given. Exams are very difficult and not straightforward at all. Does not drop any exams, may drop in-class assignments or prelab which are only 2 pts. Very messy and disorganized. Does not teach subject very well. Do not recommend.
This guy ruined my chances getting an A. Dont recommend taking him online bc he waits til the last unit for make up quiz/exam. Contact the dean secretary for any issues if u unfortunately have to take him. Physio is super challenging but this guy is beyond unreasonable. His exams dont determine if u understood the material so dont feel unworthy.
Physiology is a very difficult class but the Professor Hsin did not handle the online transition well at all. The insanely long study guides did not even seem to cover the same material on the exams. No added materials or help in this insane class during the difficult time, and his difficult grading made the entire class very discouraging and sad.
Hsin is a really tough teacher to take. His lectures are very long and info heavy. Nothing is emphasized so you don't know what to focus on. His study guides don't help. His exam questions are worded in a way to where even if you know the info you get a little confused. Def recommend taking someone else if you can. He's not a lenient grader either.
Professor Hsin has the most incredible lectures. He is thoughtful, patient, and overall an amazing teacher. Professor Hsin will take his time in explaining the material, and will leave no question unanswered. Be wary: you will study for this class, whether it is in the tutoring labs, or even on your own, but that's what the class is all about.
I can't even begin to describe how angry I am that I signed up under him. Unreasonable, unrealistic, I can't even begin to name all the words. As kind of a person he is, as a professor (online), he needs to figure out a better way to run his class. He makes unrealistic expectations with Proctorio, and inconsidate if you have ADHD and anxiety.
overall great professor and great class!
Taking Anatomy class online is already hard and this professor makes it a lot harder! He is inconsiderate and have unrealistic expectation. He doesn't even curve, lowest grade on the exam is less than 20% and he doesn't care! Gives extra credit opportunity, the catch? It is for Physiology. Stay away! Exams and quizzes are proctored
The exams are proctored. There is no curve on the exams. There is extra credit but it will not make a significant difference for your grade. Open note exams, but he puts less time since we can use our notes instead of the whole class time (stressful)... In class assignments every class period. Lab he just points to the cadavers/models. Good luck
I had Hsin before Covid so I'm not sure how his online classes are, but I absolutely loved him. He is a very nice person. His tests are definitely difficult. The in person lab was amazing, and really helped you to learn and memorize everything. I would recommend waiting until things are in person again to take him. I would definitely recommend him!
Took Prof during COVID, and this is the first time he made the class open note. it was still proctored, but you can use all your notes that you take from the lectures and in class activities. still have to study a lot, but if you're unsure about some things the lecture notes are there. sucks that class isn't curved. average test % is 50-60%
He's a nice guy but a horrible teacher don't take him his test are really hard and lab exams.
Dont take him, hes a nice professor but a very tough grader, lecture exam is difficult. During the begging of the semester there were more than 60 students by the end I only see 21 student left. If it only this class that open please do not take him.
Don't take this Professor. What he does is give 15 page study guides. During the lecture, he will start on page 13, then go to page 4, then skip to page 15, then go to page 1. He is just all over the place and confuses his students. He will teach and then say, "Oh I forgot this from 20 min. ago." Then go back and start talking about that.
There is so much information packed into each unit, and when you're tested on each unit it's really hard to retain all the information you've learned throughout the month. Extremely difficult.
This is a tough class, especially online! Professor Hsin tries to keep the class fun and engaging, but the amount of material is overwhelming. If you are not ready to give your 110 percent to this class, you'll have a very hard time passing. However, if you can get by this, you can get by probably anything!
I took prof Hsin online so I'm not quite sure what changes he's made from his physical class. Tough tests but were open note. His study guides for them were pretty long but they covered what was on the test. Seems like he really cares about the type of experience he provides to his students. Loved the use of tutors to change learning perspective!
He was a very tough teacher but this class prepared me for the career I wanted and the rigorous educational requirements that entailed. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Prof Hsin was a great professor. He teaches with such good energy that you could feel he enjoys teaching. He was very clear on what we needed to do in order to pass the class. He gave us many extra credit assignments that helped sooo much! He had us play anatomy Kahoot! games with the whole class frequently so that was awesome and helpful.
Id never taken anatomy or bio and I was pretty scared to fail. I ended up completely changing my major because I really enjoyed this class. Now wanna go to Med school. Prof Hsin gives many opportunities for you to bring your grade up with extra credit, open note quizzes, pre-recorded lecture videos. He gives us all the tools, we just had to study.
Attention Nursing Majors. Take his class. Yes his class can be difficult, but you'll be well prepared. I'm in nursing school right now & his class really prepared me for the program since a lot of the material refers back to anatomy & physio. Just study & follow along with lectures & refer to the book every now & then & you'll be fine. Good luck!!!
Class is intense. Unless you're majoring in the medical field don't take this class. The study guides don't help. There's 3 chapters in the study guide and 1 section in the exam. Lectures are fast paced. Great at answering questions but very information heavy. If any extra credit is given it's 1 point. Doesn't make a difference at all.
Hes a nice guy but not a good teacher at all. He completely does not take into consideration that students have a life, he said that outside of class we should spend 15-20 hours a week studying and to treat the class like a part time job. Completely absurd, I graduated UCSB and he made this community college level class impossible. Kinda sad
Highly recommended to take his class. Nothing comes easy. If you plan to take physiology after anatomy, TAKE HIS CLASS, he preps for not only physio but for nursing majors as well. I'm glad I took him for anatomy as a summer session. But, don't take it if you're not willing to spend 10-12 hours each week. He's a great professor!
Great Professor, his class not easy I can say very hard, but he makes to love it and to study. he gives you good knowledge. the tests are difficult, but if you study you will make it. he is very nice person and answers all your questions.
Nearly impossible to meet outside of class hours. Asking a question through email or canvas? he wants it to be a short & quick. Lectures are fast paced and the whole time we are trying to keep up so its easy to miss the information. "Homework" is about 6 short quizzes about topics we haven't covered yet (to "prepare us" for things we will cover).
Professor Hsin is a great professor. He cares for his students; he wants them to learn. He asks you to study and learn and if you put in the time, you will succeed. It is not an easy class. I see bad reviews, but honestly, if you don't study for it, don't expect to get a good grade. Study his lectures and labs.
Professor Hsin is very sweet and ridiculously smart. Took his Anatomy 001 online Fall '21. It was not an easy A, but I learned A LOT. He is extremely patient & dedicated to his work, he wants you to succeed. He even made a Pokemon-style game for this class which is pretty cool. He prepares you well, honestly a godsend if you are pre-health. n_n
Professor Hsin is the best! Anatomy is a really hard class, but he is very caring and helps you to do well. He reminds you of the tests ahead of time so you can study, and he does kahoots, jeopardy, and study guides. He also gives you many opportunities for extra credit. I wish he would teach physiology as well.
His style of teaching is lazy, he goes through the material too fast, and expects you to memorize literally everything on a 12 page SG (almost 200-300 questions, and that's just for lecture). His exam questions are so confusing that I leave each one discouraged. Anatomy is supposed to be hard but he makes it harder. Don't ignore the bad reviews.
I took his class, where lectures would be online and recorded to watch again, and labs were in person. I loved it. The course was flipped. The class is difficult, but any anatomy class is. He doesn't curve but gives a LOT of extra credit. He also does Kahoot and Jepoardy before exams. He's so nice and is eager to help. Also provides study guides.
a lot of information all at once, but that's expected. very good and caring prof, quick to reply. he posts lab videos that show exactly what's on the exam. lectures are very heavy, but makes good tips to remember info. gives A LOT of extra credit and even "freebie" points at end of semester. wish i fulfilled more extra credit opportunities w/ tutor
This class was very difficult, but Prof Hsin was always happy to help with anything. Although I didn't do too well in the class, he did very well teaching a very difficult subject. One thing I regret not doing in this class was focus on lecture as I did in lab. The lab portion of the exam helps with lecture, I found the lecture was always harder.
Just because someone is nice doesn't mean they are a good teacher, the 5 star reviews seem to only focus on him being a nice person. He does well on prepping for lab, BUT lecture gets lost in the shuffle. My advice is don't take him if you learn best in a traditional class setting because he relies a lot on students watching prerecorded material.
He is a nice professor but it doesn't mean anything. I took him last year and half of the class dropped out and half pass the class with a C or highest B. the practicum exam so heavy, if you can't misspell even 1 word. The professor told me i wont pass the class if im a full time student. There more and more
I had never had to really tried in class before I took Prof. Hsin class but it made me a better student and study habits. He is not easy whatsoever but if u really do try and go to tutoring, its possible. I recommend to have a solid studying method before taking his class. Thanks to his class, I got a B in physio. He shapes u for reality. Love him
He really cares for his students' success. He's readily available and responds to emails relatively fast. He gives group projects, but it helps you understand the body structures more. He's very organized and offers a lot of resources for students to use. Overall, a good professor.
Hated his class, study guides were all ridiculously long and only had 2 weeks between exams when the study guides were 20 pages long and full. Waits for people to make up the exam before he tells anyone the score (wouldn't find out until right before the next exam). Would put both lab/lecture exams on the same day. Literally take any otherprofessor
This is a hard class, yes.The amount of material that you must COMMIT to memory is daunting, yes. That said, Professor Hsin was an incredible professor.Extra credit, quick replies, advice, study guides, he does it all! He is an expert who is truly kind and cares. If you put in the time and effort, you'll be fine. Tip: use Anki for lecture exams!
He's a sweet teacher but his style didn't work with my learning style He does give tons of extra credit tests are very difficult and tricky
He is very sweet and caring of his students. The class really prepares you for big future classes, and how to study for a lot of material. His resources are incredible, and really help you retain the material. He gives extra credit, and will explain as thoroughly as possible.
While this class wasn't easy, I have a feeling prof Hsin does a good job in preparing people who are generally going into the medical field, so I don't blame him for the class being challenging. That being said, this class requires a ridiculous amount of studying, but Hsin does provide EC opportunities that could help you. By no means is he awful.
He is a very caring professor, he is great for visual learners. Anatomy is a hard class, but Hsin does his best to help his students succeed. Many resources are provided. If put effort into the class, and study well, you will do great in his class.
Lectures were a little boring and tedious at points. However, Hsin provides you with all the opportunities you need to succeed, such as study guides and several extra credit opportunities. He is also an extremely supportive and caring professor who definitely does attempt to make his class unique. Anatomy itself is a tough subject so be ready.
Anatomy is already a hard class by itself, Hsin does help break everything down by providing you his own material which is very easy to follow. His lectures are really doable if you have a tablet you can write on. His exams are very nice because he makes them fairly close to his study guides. Most bad reviews are from lack of effort/persistence.
He's a nice person but I had to drop his class bc he over complicates and goes through everything quickly. Online quizzes are proctored and timed. We were told to study for our first exam and begin studying for the second exam, it was barely week 2. Highly suggest taking anatomy at a different school. Saved myself the fail and got an A in ELAC
I wont disagree with those who say he's a nice guy. However as a teacher he has some of the most unrealistic expectations. He states that if we have kids, a family, a job, or any other classes outside of his then we wont pass. His study guides are useless. We have to know all material then “build/think beyond” to get the answer.
The recent comments about Professor Hsin are unfair. He is a nice and caring professor who is willing to discuss your grades if you are falling behind. If he didn't care, he wouldn't take the time to do that. I took his class during the summer, and while it was tough, it is doable if you spend time studying. Plus, he offers a lot of extra credit.
He is a good professor for this incredibly vast subject. Practically any anatomy course will be very difficult. Having the right professor who teaches in somewhat of an organized fashion can help you navigate through it. If you are going to take anatomy 1 I highly recommend this professor. Just prepare for one of the hardest semesters of your life.
Anatomy is a demanding subject, Hsin is fair and gives so much extra credit and opportunities to succeed. I got a high A by just memorizing all the stuff outlined in the study guides. I would recommend not buying the physical atlas, instead buy the online version as the lab exam will use pictures from the online version.
plz just choose another professor. i get it, anatomy is a difficult subject, but he paces his units too quickly with not enough time to absorb information til the next exam is right in ur face. he's also really passive aggressive despite many ppl saying he's nice. L class
This class is very hands-on class and lecture attendance is mandatory to pass and understand the material but prof Hsin is very understanding and helps a lot and cares for his students
I took his class over the winter, not recommended. Hsin provides an extensive list of resources (prerecordered lec/lab videos, virtual anatomy lab) that made it possible. Course is established and organized. Most anatomy tutors come from Hsins or Lee's class - they are inspiring and strong educators. If you like anime you should take him ;)
Professor Hsin will definitely prepare you for the healthcare field. Although anatomy wasn't easy, he's very fair. Lots of extra credit to help you out. Use his flip classes to study!! Go to CAS and use the models for lab. He is an amazing teacher for visual learners :)
Online class. Bought book, could have passed without textbook. Used mostly his Powerpoints. Online Exams are difficult but they're opened notes. In-class exams are way better. Professor gives plenty of extra credit. Attend CAS as much as you can. He has recorded lectures, REWATCH THEM! REWATCH his flipped videos. Overall, good teacher.
super nice/approachable & encourages questions! constant studying is the biggest task so make sure you have time to dedicate bc most of the class dropped. explains concepts repeatedly to make it stick + makes it less intimidating. easy open note weekly quizzes (online), but 4 lab+5 MC lec exams (not cumulative) anat's hard but take him or teak lee!
Ugh he was such a sweetheart hes kind and so approachable, although I think he can give us less things on the study guide to study because it was far too much, I still got an A but still like there was not one day that I didnt study, But if you aint lazy then you got this, if I got a bad grade in this class Id blame myself not him its def on you.
He is a very passive aggressive professor and his study guides are 20+ pages long and mostly not relevant. Over 60% drop rate for a reason. Don't trust the good reviews you will regret taking his class!! Other anatomy professors go at a slower pace with some even curving and the exams are more broken up.
I did online zoom lecture and in person lab. Lecture was unorganized, would give a lot of info not on the slides. Lecture exams made no sense. Class started with about 40 students and ended with about 10. Lab and exams are heavy and worth a lot. Lots of group work. Nice professor, but harsh grader. No flexibility. Need to have a good study routine.
