Great Professor!

Best class I've had to date at the college; takes a scary course and makes it fun.

Mr.Ballard is a very good teacher. For almost every test he gives a study guide which are exact test questions.

Those who have had Mr ballard for speech or communcations will sure agree with me when i say ballard is a comedien.I found his class to be a joy ride.it was very layed back and never short of entertaiment.great class and a great teacher.

I learned alot about life as well as communication. I looked forward to going to this class each week.

You'll laugh your head off in his class. Study for his tests from his notes and the book. The speeches are not very hard to give, but make sure to write the outline for the speech just the way he wants it. If you need to smile, take him.

Made speech class fun with alot of humor. Fair grader on speeches, make sure they show good preperation though. Tests are somewhat hard so make sure to study. Excellent teacher!!

By far the best speech teacher at SPC. Grades very fair, if you follow directions, you will be fine. Tests are a little hard, unless you study. Wants his students to pass. Very funny, like taking a class taught by Jay Leno! Highly Recommended!! A+++

One of the best teachers around. So incredibly funny and just a joy to be around. Class is wayyy too easy. Gives test questions and lets you use notes. First half of class is spent taking attendance and asking how your weekend was and what you did.

I was terrified of speaking in front of other people,but now not as terrified.Most speech teachers are similar,but he keeps you interested. If only he would stop bringing up politics.I don't care who he's voting for,and I don't think he should try to sway votes.

Mr. Ballard is a nice guy. He often gets WAY off topic, but he's funny. I sometimes didn't understand how he graded some of my speeches (I thought that I did better than what he gave me) But I did end up with an A. He almost always keeps you in class the entire time or over.

Awesome class, before the semester started I was so worried about taking a speech class, but he breaks the ice well. He is very anecdotal, though he does go off on tangents sometimes, Prof. Ballard makes everyone feel very comfortable and is quite a nice looking man at that!

If this teacher is that bad you could have drop him. Mr. Ballard is not the typical hard ass teacher so you are sour abouth that. go take another teacher then. get of his back. bean head some of us enjoy having a good teacher not some smart ass. get a life.

Prof. Ballard is a great teacher. He does have a tendency to go off on tangents but they are needed sometimes. He is a very laid back prof. and makes speech bearable.

Boring class but easy A. We only had to give 3 or 4 speeches and the exams were a joke. But hey, nobody really wants to take speech anyway, right?...

He was great! Nice personality, keeps everyone involved. Easy class. Encourages class discussions, respects everyone's opinion. Take this class if you need speech! It will be the best you'll take.

Great Professor. I was terrified to take Speech and he makes it fun and interesting. Some days I laughed so hard I thought I was going to bust a gut I had so much fun! I also got an A in his class. And NO, he does NOT grade based on looks, but he does care whether or not you show enthusism when you give you give your speeches. Take him!

Awesome teacher, he is sooo funny, and classes are never a bore. Dont be surprised if you dont cover half the material in class, but no worry, he gives open book tests. Just to clear up what others where saying, he IS fair in grading, just put in a little effort! You only have to give 3 speeches in this class.

I am currently taking this class and I must admit that anyone can ace it if they just come to class and do what they are assigned to do. He assigns 3 speeches plus a group speech which are not hard at all and gives periodic tests which are OPEN BOOK!!! This is an easy class and the professor is a really nice guy. I would definitely recommend him.

Mr. Ballard is an awesome professor! He does a great job making you feel welcome and comfortable when you enter the class, and is very humerous --- it helps break the ice. While he does not teach "out of the book", the book is necessary for testing, as well as preparation for your speeches. I hope to take him for another class next semester!

Mr. Ballard is awesome! He gives plenty of notice on speeches and tests, makes sure we understand the material, and is one of the best professors a student could hope for. His wittiness during class certainly helps you keep awake and in-tune. Needless to say, I look forward to Speech & Communication each week!

Great teacher, never really stays on topic, gots annoying. Let us use the book for tests, grade average on speeches, but give great feedback. Offers help outside of class if you need it. this class was really good expect the high school student who was a major suck up, and almost laughed so hard she cried at everything he said. i guess thats life.

Amazing Teacher!! Very helpful in trying to make you feel comfortable before giving a speech. Many chances for extra credit. Tests are open book but its a good idea to read before taking the tests. He was a great professor as far as feedback goes. He seemed to really care about the performance of his students on each assignment. I have crazy speech anxiety, and he made me feel very comfortable as the semester went on. He was late to class often and got off topic sometimes, but it was all in great fun. I would recommend him.

I was scared to death of taking a speech class but Prof. Ballard made everyone feel at ease with his wit and humor incorperated in his teaching style. I reserved this class for one of my last classes in community college as I have a strong fear of speaking in front of other people. His grading style gave me lots of confidence in accordance with the speeches because no matter how nervous you are, as long as you are prepared and follow his instructions, his grading is Extremely kind.

Funny and dynamic teacher. He is clear but can be easily distracted, which leads to funny antedotes and convorsation. Just be confident when you speak.

The poster from 7/6/10 is partially correct; except, the quizzes, tests, midterm, & final are EASY - mostly T/F with some multiple choice. Oh, & ONLINE. Read the book, duh! Okay, so I picked him just because of his reviews on here, his is an EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER, although it is true he makes it comfortable enough to give speeches. NEVER SHOWED UP, SLOW GRADER, NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS, and the EXAMS ARE RIDICULOUS, you really have to read the book, BARELY TEACHES ONLY TELLS STORIES, SO ANNOYING cause I hate reading.

Nice prof., but does not like to respond his email, lack of communication and slow grade. It's very frustrated when you have to wait for his answer. Most like you learn on your own even is a lecture class.

I took this class in class during the summer. It was rather easy. I recommend just making sure you do all the work and I think you will most likely get a good grade. He's sometimes hard to get a hold of, but when you do, he's very helpful. He does trail off and tell stories in class, but because the class is easy, I don't think that's a bad thing.

Great professor and great guy. If you try you will can an A. Quizzes can be hard but are only a fraction of your grade and come straight from the book. Definitely take him if you can.

Great professor. The only problem is that the quizzes are kind of vague, several of the answers could be correct but you can only pick one and hope it's right. If it's an in class exam you're screwed because the phrases are lines straight from the book and some don't make sense. That's no fault of his though. The speeches are fun, grading is fair.

He is a fun and easy going teacher that has stories and jokes for every class. All of his quiz's are online but are timed. All the quiz questions come from the textbook so be sure to read the chapters. There is a group speech, two individual speeches and about three impromptu speeches. Overall its an enjoyable class.

Easiest class I have ever taken. The 2 tests are open book and he gives a study guide for the final. Two super easy speeches and a group presentation. Lectures can be a bit boring sometimes but overall Ballard is a pretty cool prof.

Professor Ballard is an okay professor. Do your job and you will get a good grade. Follow directions, if you don't get something, then ask him. Mr. Ballard is a goodintelligent professor for the most part. I took him for the summer semester which speed up everything; making the tasks a little more difficult to complete with the time given. However I did pass with a B. But if you like to retain information it might be best to take the class in the spring or fall.

If you want a good grade and want to feel comfortable in a speech class, take him!! If you want to improve communication skills, don't. For a speech class, this was easy. I hate speaking in front of the class but I did pretty well. I got an A in the class. He has a pretty high standard for the actual content of the speeches and the way you present yourself, but he is funny and isn't too harsh when it comes to grading.

Very relaxed class that makes speaking in front of a group of people a bit easier. The middle of the semester had a rush of assignments, but otherwise there was a good amount of time to complete each one. There is one large group assignment, so find some good people to work with. He's a kind person very willing to help you learn.

Nervous about speech? Don't be. Dr. Ballard keeps a pretty relaxed atmosphere, and he's hilarious. It seems more like you're having a conversation sometimes. (Mind the racquetball). You only have to do about 5 speeches, and only 2 are major grades. There are 2 impromptu speeches, but the first one is a minute and the second is in a group.

Good guy, very funny, talks about his life a lot, speeches were easy and he's and easy grader if you do the speeches, he's not gonna grade you harsh, he just wants you to do the speech and it may seem long like a 3-5 minute speech but i promise it isn't it flies by and a lot people go over their time limit because it just flies by.

Professor Ballard is the perfect professor to instruct a speech class. He has a great sense of humor and is full of stories. I always enjoy hearing them. He gives helpful feedback and is very understanding. The only problems I faced were some projects being assigned with short notice and he takes a while to grade. Overall though, he's great!

I took his class for an A.A requirement--and I absolutely dreaded the thought of giving speeches(very anxiety-ridden).Even with my aversion to public speaking, I came out of the class with a high "A". There are 6-7 speeches(2-7min), and then quizzes on the textbook material. He is a fair grader, just follow his speech guidelines and you'll pass.

A unique prof. in that he has his opinions but is such a reasonable and realistic person that even if you disagree, you value his opinion. Anthony Ballard is by far the best professor I have ever had. I refused to skip any of his classes because of how interesting his class is. He gives you great feedback when it comes to speeches so that the next time you get an even better grade. One of the best professors I've had so far. Not only does he teach speech effectively, but he also take time to teach students about themselves and trying to get them to learn how to be good speakers, no matter where they are, and become comfortable wit the idea. He's funny, kind, and charming.

Professor Ballard does a good job teaching his speech courses. Most of the time the lectures are mostly about him and his adventures of his past but he does integrate it into his teaching. I think it would be illegal for me to say how much I love this professor. Be ready thank have fun. Do all your assignments and speeches on the due date. If you do at a different day, u loose 50% of the grade.

If you're looking for an easy A this is the class. He talks a lot but it was worth listening to for the grade that most people got. All you have to do is show up and write the three essays throughout the semester. That's it. He cares about his students and wants you to succeed.

One of the best teachers Ive ever had. I was so nervous coming into a public speaking class but he quickly made the classroom a safe place where everyone felt comfortable. Is very honest and passionate about his job and his opinions, which I throughly enjoyed. Would 100% take again!

Teaches from the textbook, so nothing difficult, as long as you read the textbook you're fine. Attend class so you can ask questions for projects. he also gives in class time and prep for group projects. For the quizzes, absolutely skim/read the textbook and use the vocab. Easy A if you do your work

Great teacher! Funny and actually makes me want to listen in his lectures. His quizzes are pretty easy, the answers are usually straight from the book.

Professor Ballard is actually really funny. Great teacher and give great lectures. If you have anxiety and have stage fright, take this class. You have at least 5 speeches. I think one of them are group projects. This class is a easy A.

Professor Ballard was very straight forward from the beginning of the class. He wanted to ensure everyone knew to stay on top of their work to improve the chances of passing his class. During the live classes he ensured that what was discussed was understood by everyone in the class. And he is actually pretty hilarious if i must say so myself.

Absolutely loved this professor, you can tell he really loves teaching. Only downside is his complete lack of flexibility with late work. If you turn in work late, you will get a 50% off your grade reduction. hence if you get a 100% on his speech but it is a single minute late, you will end up with an F. Make sure to turn everything in on time.

Loved this class, the lectures were interesting, clear, and insightful. Prof. Ballard was very funny, helpful, truly caring, and super understanding. There were several video speeches, the writing requirements were clear, and overall a very forgiving grader. I seriously cannot recommend Prof. Ballard enough. TRUST ME JUST TAKE HIS CLASS 100/10.

Easier than I expected. His grading criteria was easy to understand & he'd explain in depth what's expected from our speeches (only 3 for the entire semester). His lectures would always put a smile on my face & his stories were always insightful & hilarious. Bonus: speeches were done via video recording so if u have stage fright he's the man for u.

Retiring this semester, I would like to give a rating anyway and say that his in-person speech class was really easy to go through. Half of the 16 weeks is 5 textbook quizzes and written response questions and the other half is 3 speeches, one of them being a group project. Ignore the bad reviews, because this class is an easy A. Highly recommend.

Professor Ballard was so great. His lectures were easy to understand and actually interesting, and he was very kind and hilarious. He's a fairly easy grader too. Only had to give 3 speeches, 1 of which was in a group project, plus there are textbook assignments at the beginning of the semester.

Professor Ballard was great. He was very lenient, especially with the recent hurricanes and his grading criteria for presentations is very in-depth. He has a set of rules for presentations but other than that he's a good professor. His lectures can get super boring but its understandable.

Professor Ballard is very qualified. Can be hard to contact. Throughout the class there are worksheets and quizzes based on the textbook chapters due every couple of weeks. Around the halfway point, the focus is only on speeches. There are 3- Introduction, group, and persuasive speeches. Do the work and have good attendance and you should be fine!

Professor Ballard was one of my easiest classes this semester! He is understanding and makes the class comfortable when doing our actual speeches. Overall, it contains 3 speeches (intro, group and persuasive) and some discussion posts when learning about speech. I recommend taking him for speech!!!!
