Awesome teacher, he really knows his stuff and his lectures are very easy to understand.

I got a C in his class, but it was definately easy enough to get a B or an A. His lectures are very fun.

he was the greatest math teacher i've ever had at this school. his class was great, no problems, he really knows his stuff. tests cover the material which generally come straight from the quizzes. quizzes are easy if you figure out the homework

Excellent instructor. I went into calculus worried that it was going to be hard and obscure, but he made it fun and interesting. He gives you the straight story about what you should know and what isn't important. 2 note cards per test, 3 on final.

A very good class, I don't mind going to it, and for the first time math is explained in a straight foward classic way that all these new "advancements" in math have tried to change. He makes some corny jokes as well, which are always fun.

barcellos was awsome! i always hated math, but he made the class interesting and he always made us laugh. His technique of teaching was a breath of fresh air, every teacher should learn from him. especially the chem and biol. teachers! i give him an A++

Barcellos knew his stuff and made his subject at times for funny. He is a hard teacher and at times didn't seem to slow down even if people weren't getting the info. An overall awesome teacher!!

If you do the homework, you should have no problem with quizzes and tests. Always willing to answer questions, but delivers good instruction as well. Great teacher.

Excellent at expaining difficult calculus concepts. A fairly easy instructor overall because we got to use 1 notecard for tests, 2 for the last test and final. Constant quizzes kept us on track.

If you're going to be taking a math class, you need to take it with Mr.Barcellos. Excellent teacher, makes class interesting by telling lots of jokes. Drops 1 test score, allows note card for quizzes/exams. Highly recommended.

Professor Barcellos i awesome teacher, Always willing you to help with HW and any problems. I would love to take him next semester and i sure i will . He is an awesome teacher. HE does those problems that are based for Science major Classes so if you doing business i would not recommend . But You can because he is an AWESOME TEACHER TO TAKE.

Mr. B is funny and explains everthing very well. His tests are do-able if you keep up with the quizzes and homework. If you want to do well, he'll help you.

Prof Barcellos made Algebra interesting and fun.

This is the greatest teacher in the world. He is a teachers teacher. He is excellent. If he teaches a class take it. I have had 3 classes with him, and now I am a math major!

He is really funny and nice. Always has something interesting to talk about in class. Makes math seem very straightforward. Drops lowest test score. Quizzes easy, tests somewhat harder--quizzes are to see if you read the material. He's so cool I'm thinking about getting up at 615 in the morning to take calc 3 w/ him over summer.

STRONGLY RECOMMEND! The absolutely best prof. It is hard to have fun at 8am but we did. Tests are do-able if you study. He is crystal clear with explanation of new concepts and always open for questions. I will take CALC400 with him for fun! Take him will never regret!

He is a great teacher! He expects you to go see him when you do don't well on a certain problem(s)and helps you understand it better. I recommend those whose taking math to take him!

Wow he is a 5 star prof. His lectures are extremely thorough, he is open minded, and makes class very interesting. If you have trouble, he will help you understand everything! He has a great attitude towards all the students so you will never feel uncomfortable asking questions.

Dr Barcellos is definitely an outstanding professor. As far as the material goes, he is very strong and thoughtful. Overall, he is a funny and laid back guy with a great character. An A is fairly easy if you do your part. I do recommend him.

He's a great teacher i highly recommend him i took him over the summer at 7 in the morning and never fell asleep once! He's really energetic and he makes it easy. He's quiz crazy tho but the tests are exactly like the tests! Take him and you will learn everything taught!!

Hands down, the best Math teacher I've ever had. It's easy to get good grades WHILE LEARNING A LOT. After completing his class successfully, my following Math Class was a piece of cake. I took Barcellos in 1998 when it was called something else besides Math 120. I recently returned to college to finish my degree and noticed his name. He was the best math teacher I ever had! I would highly recommend this professor to anyone! He makes math fun!

Daily quizzes prep you well for the test. His grading system makes failing the class impossible. Very clear about his expectations and about the subject matter. He also makes overalls look fashionable!

greatest math professor...he made the materials easy and he's very good at helping the students visualing things (which is extremely important in calculus). i wish he teaches 410 and 421

prof. barcellos is a great teacher. he is really helpful when you don't understand the subject. He has a quiz almost every other day but they are simple if you actually pay attentiont to his lectures. Of course you will need to use the book its a math class but i got away with skipping a lot of sections. He also lets you use a 5x8 note card.

Mr. Barcellos is the most awesome Math teacher I have ever had. You'll love his taste in shoes! Very clear in his teaching style, patient, and allows you to ask questions even if they are from a previous section. He gives lots of quizzes. Which requires you to to do your homework daily. Great instructor! Funny guy that's always willing to help you out if you have questions. I usually don't like math at all but after taking his course I considered (briefly) changing my major to math. Do the homework and show up for quizzes/exams and you should do well.

Most caring professor I've ever had for mathematics. He takes the time to grade over 40 exams in one night just to hand back material in a timely manner. He genuinely cares for the success of each of his students. Do whatever it takes to get into his class!

Mr Barcellos, hmmmmmm....Well he is really good at what he does, he is really smart very good guy, i like the fact that he gives quizes on a daily basis so that the information he taught you can be reinforced and when he actually gives the exam its similar to the quizzes. He doesnt confuse his students with the actually exam like most teachers.

Mr. B is a very good math professor! He is always fair in grading, explains the material in a very clear way, gives quizzes on a regular basis to help students figure out what they are supposed to have on the test. He also has a very good sense of humor that makes the lessons quite active and entertaining.

Before this class, I was confident in math. After this class I really second guess myself. Barcellos was extremely helpful, or tried to be, but there was no hope. He is always in class, and in his office during his office hours. Wonderful teacher, I might have had more success if I had taken trig. (<recommend taking before)

Look, algebra sucks but if you come to class every day and do the homework this is a great class to knock out algebra 1 & II in one punch. I dropped out of algebra 1 twice before bc the teachers sucked. Mr B makes it clear. Its a hard class but my post algebra classes were easier bc of it. Thanks Mr B :)

He is the best math teacher I've ever had!! He really loves the subject, but understands that students usually don't. He honestly does his best to make sure everyone gets the grade they deserve. Homework is turned in on the test dates, and there are quizzes very often that you really don't want to miss. Quizzes=easy if you've been paying attention.

He is an effective teacher for any student who is willing to do the work - including those who don't like or aren't good at math and those who fear it. Very funny, caring teacher that will seem to move a mountain to help you, if you ask for it, especially in office hours. The best Math teacher I've ever had. Extremely clear, gives daily quizzes that mirror his tests so you know EXACTLY what will be on the tests. He grades stuff quickly, usually by the next day, so you have all your quizzes back to study from before a test. Very knowledgeable and easy to understand, good at explaining. If his class is open, TAKE IT.

Probably the best lecturer I have ever had. Makes it interesting, easy to understand, and answers any questions. If you can't pass his class, you're a shame and just plain stupid. If you can't even get a B you're stupid. All you have to do is do hw and pay attention. How easy is that. And I did say "DO" your hw and not copy it.

This teacher is AMAZING! He will do problems a few different methods, mostly when asked. He uses problems for tests from quizzes, so if you actually studied, you can pass this class! And the plus will be that, you will actually understand the math better. Take this teacher if you really want to learn and PASS the class. You will not regret it!

I took him during my first semester of college. I have always had trouble with math and none of my high school teachers really got me interested/motivated enough to try. Barcellos is super cool and really knows how to teach math. He allows you to use notes on the tests which is great! Do the work and go to class=PASS! I definitely recommend him! :)

Loved this class. Great personality, understood the concepts after his lectures, but not an easy A. This isn't high school, he teaches it like a college course should be. He expects you to keep up with the material and homework. Quizzes you the next day on the material covered the day before. Also allows a notecard on exams. Snappy Dresser too.

Even though I got a D I still think Mr. B is one of the greatest Math teachers out there. He is funny, will talk out the problems with you and provide you with daily quizzes that will help you for your exams. It's a hard class, but if you want to get through 100 & 120 at once this is the way to go. Make sure you use the flashcard available!!!

One of the best professors I have ever had. If I could take him for all of my math classes required by my major (I need calculus 3), I would. He has no problem explaining the concepts and going over homework problems to ensure clarity and knowledge. He's funny and makes the class enjoyable. I would recommend him to anyone taking math.

Excellent professor. Teaches 1 section of a chapter every lecture day, then goes over homework problems. Then, he quizzes you on that section the next day to make sure you keep up with the homework, know the material, and not procrastinate. Very funny to keep you engaged in lectures, and teaches well. AS long as you do homework, you'll get an A.

Great Class!!! Yes it sucks going to class every day and take around 80 to 90 quizzes, but it is structured well and you get to use a note card. Exams like the quizzes! Sometimes group quizzes. He went over them right away and posted solutions online daily. Card will help you to memorize it. Tow for final. He answers all questions!

Awesome class! Math every day for two hours may seem daunting for a whole semester. But totally worth it, you have no time to forget and you are never rushed through a subject. Professor Barcellos is great and if you show up and listen to him he will tell you exactly how to succeed. He even arranges a beacon tutor to help those who struggle.

He's not that great. Explains well, but doesn't really teach. He'll give you an example and then expect you to do the homework. Quiz everyday. Gives math essay. Overall, not as good as most of these comments on here say he is.

Prof. Barcellos is amazing! We had an odd situation where our prof. got replaced due to chronic absences and he took on our class with 3 weeks left of the term. We were completely lost and very behind but he has really stepped up to the plate to get us on track. He is extremely helpful and even extended his office hours to help our class out.

If you are in Calc 3, I hope you take your grades and learning seriously. He is a really great lecturer (I had a 7 am class). Just take him if you have the option to. I got an A in the class, and almost 50-60% of the class passed with B's or better. 4 test, one easy essay, easy graded hw, final out of tests, and helpful quizzes.

I took "extreme" algebra bc of how uncomfortable I was with math. But with Barcellos, it was easy. Yes there are daily quizzes, but trust me, they're for your benefit. You look forward to them eventually bc they're great practice for the exams. Exams are just what you practice for. He's a great, helpful guy dedicated to your success. TAKE HIM!

Professor Barcellos is an amazing math professor actually made me like math again, I wanted to learn. He's hilarious!! Show up on time, be there every class, and study. Don't procrastinate, there's no time for it. Loved this professor, taking him again in the Spring for his 9 unit math course.

All of algebra in one semester may seem intimidating, but for 9 units, it takes up most of your schedule, M-F for 2 hours. If its your first semester in college, TAKE THIS CLASS!! Barcellos is an amazing teacher, he's hilarious, and teaches very well. Quizzes every day and an exam every 2 weeks, but as long as you do the homework, you will pass.

This class is NOT for slackers. There are 1-2 quizzes everyday! Pay attention and use the note cards that he allows. Those cards can save you like it did for me. I was taking 19 units and managed to get an A by the skin of my teeth. Bring your game face, and get ready to laugh at his stories. Better learn your Distance, Rate, & Time problems!

Professor Barcellos is amazing professor. I took Math 129 with him. He gives quizzes everyday, Exams every two week and final exam is cumulative. He is very helpful and expect study before you come to class. His quizzes are very helpful it helps you to prepare for exams.

He is an amazing professor! Expect quizzes everyday, but do not complain about them, because these points WILL SAVE YOUR GRADE! At the end, he will drop your lowest scores AND 2 test scores! I ended up getting a C in the class only because of the amount of effort I put in myself. If you work hard and stay on top of your work, YOU WILL PASS!

If you want to learn in his class, it is recommended to have him for a longer lecture because he doesn't teach you everything in a 65 minute class. The HW assignments covered would not really be taught until we review the HW problems the next class meeting, which will be tested. Funny guy, though.

I cannot suggest him highly enough. Most people would consider him an easy professor, but that's mostly because his classes are actually fair and he's actually good at teaching, which is a stark comparison to the rest of the Mathematics department. He has a passion for Mathematics, and is able to explain things simply without talking down to you.

This is by far the BEST math professor I've ever had! Take him if you can and be aware of his quizzes. They are not worth much points, but are useful when it comes to exams. He is very caring and even answers certain questions during the exam. You get to have a note card on exams. I could of got an A, but I made stupid mistakes from the beginning.

Professor Barcellos is a very experienced and organized individual. He grades and returns all work extremely fast, and offers in depth explanations for exam and quiz solutions after the fact. Class is built around daily quizzes, so falling behind can be detrimental. Very engaging and helpful professor take him if you can.

Barely a few weeks in and I feel this is the best professor I have ever had. He is so wonderful! I feel really bad for those in Pico's class... I took him and it was the lack of respect for the students he had that really made me despise the class. Barcellos respects the students, yet also expects a lot out of us. Best math Professor I've had (9 unit combined algebra class). Once I pass trig and pre-calc I plan to seek him out for Calculus I, I I and III. He'll know your name within a couple weeks and give you the individual attention needed to ensure you can and do pass.

Professor Barcellos is one of the best professors at ARC. He will clearly explain all concepts, he will show you different ways to solve problems and allows you to use the method that works best for you. This is a 9 unit course, attend class, ask questions and you will pass.

Great professor. He answers his email. He sets you up for success instead of trying to ask you trick questions. He pretty much puts up big flashing signs saying, "you need to know THIS, it will be on the test."

Hi guys, if you want to study hard, have fun, and know something at the end of the semester, then better to take this professor. You exactly know what you want to learn. He is a good grader. He has 30 years of teaching experience in ARC, he knows what he wants to do. He is a step by step lecturer, no short cuts, no confuse lectures.

Mr. B is a terrific teacher! He gives step by step examples and makes sure to answer everyone questions. He always works with students to help them understand the math and really cares about his classes. If you put in the work you will pass!

A very fun professor who makes Calc 2 easy (and now I'm taking Calc 3 with him too). Full of energy and excitement towards the subject he teaches. Be wary, he gives a single-question quiz every day on the subject taught the day prior. Skip class or be late and you may lose some points. Drops lowest exam of 5, and counts 4-5 quizzes as extra credit.

Professor Barcellos is a very straightforward teacher. Be ready to take quiz on every meeting but his quizzes are simple and exams based on them including finals. Homework is due on Exam but not big chunk of grades. I would say focus on quizzes not homework then you can get A. His lectures are amazing but quite fast.

One of the coolest professors Ive taken at ARC so far, and this is certified by a cool kid that did make it this far Mr Barcellos ;). He was funny and quizzes and notecard were the key to passing his class. More than the math, I enjoyed learning interesting history facts, even though I love math. Really nice interesting professor.

This is a 9 credit class, so expected to go through a lot of material, but its not bad at all. He makes it easy to keep along in class.

A very old-fashioned kind of teacher. All paper and pencil, no online portion. If you're like me and you don't care for online school, this class is perfect for you. The class is rigorous, but Mr. Barcellos will give you everything you need to excel if you show up everyday. Highly, highly recommend his math 129 class to anyone finishing algebra.

9units seems overwhelming but prof makes it easy. Unfortunately I had to take the class twice. 1st go around I didnt utilize the notecards for exams. 2nd go around I did from the beginning. Best math professor by far. I couldve gotten an A or B had I shown up to class more. Your daily quizzes are what will be on your exams. TAKE HIM! Great prof.

If you want to learn math in depth, he is the best option.

There is a quiz almost every day, and they HEAVILY reflect the test material. Study the quizzes and you will do well on the tests. One test is dropped from your final grade. Very fair and straight forward professor. I barely made it through calc2 and I have a high B in this class.

Mr. B is the best math professor Ive ever had! Ive struggled with math and algebra since middle school. I dropped math 120 three times because I could not grasp the material. Taking math 129 was great because it went over everything that I hadnt properly learned before. It helps to have class 5 days a week as well. Im so glad I took this class!

Prof Tony is a excellent teacher in class but it could not work well online for me. We had daily quizzes and I had 99.7%, but my grade drop to 93.7% because his online videos are very limit with least example covered and chapters were tough. Don't forget to buy solution manual. He takes 5 exam which he drops lowest one, 1 essay and 1 final (12%).

SUPER GOOD teacher!!!!!! exams are exactly like the quizzes!!!! Makes it really clear what he is grading you on. He is a very caring person and really cares about his students.

homework from book exercises. quizzes daily, and about 4 or 5 exams. no graphing calculators ( calc3). arrive early or you will miss the quiz. one challenging question on exams the rest are like the quizzes.

He is a very straightforward and caring teacher. The lectures are decent and he makes it not boring. He is willing to answer questions and go over homework unlike other math teachers at ARC. The schedule of notes is pretty much the same as in the syllabus. You are able to use an index card for quizzes and exams. Exams are heavily based on quizzes.

This is probably the best professor at ARC for calculus, I took calculus 2 and Im currently taking calculus 3 and hes super clear about the material. He genuinely wants you to understand, he provides daily quizzes which arent weighted super heavy that provide great feedback and keep you up to date with the information that will be on the exam.

Took him online for Calc 3. Super straightforward. Rambles a bit during lectures but so do other professors. Quizzes and Hw are super by the book no curve balls. When he lectures I found it very easy to understand the material. He does give a review quiz during the first week however he does notify students about this about a week before

Best. Professor. Ever. He did ramble a lot, but nothing stood between us and success.

Great prof, took him for calc 2 and 3. He is very clear on what is expected and genuinely wants you to learn, I recommend going to office hours if you need it, super funny guy too. Webassign homework but writes his own quizzes. Quiz everyday but they aren't graded heavy and they are basically a study guide for the exam, same concepts, small changes

Quizzes every day, but they are worth almost no points, and are made to teach rather than test. That material is graded and handed back, and exams have that exact material, so there are no curveballs. Great lectures, and he is realistic in recognizing how horrible some math is, so he is quick to simplify and explain things easily digestible.

I am really terrible at math but he made sure that I was able to understand it and was very kind to me. Sometimes, he does talk back with attitude but otherwise, cool guy lol. Very "classy." Everyday pop quizzes of last lecture. Talks a lot about his previous life b4 teaching. Cursive writing, might be hard to read. Raised my D+ to a C so I passed!

Also, no textbook. He doesn't check your hw and gives you full credit. Make sure to study a lot before/after the class. Is scary when you ask him questions but will answer them nonetheless. Lets you cheat on tests with an index card of whatever notes. I took math 333 b4 it disappeared :P Well known professor in Math ARC.

Great lectures, but some rambling. Quizzes are low-stakes and exam-focused. Unstuck ai helped me nail the concepts. Professor is realistic and wants you to learn.
