While the material for this class is difficult, he still mad the class do able. He related the material in a way that could make sense. His test are easy as long as you do the homework. If you have a question, do not be afraid to go to his office. His very good at explaining things.
Bevelaqua is not afraid to destroy the class with material HARDER than the homework given. Do not trust his "do the homework and you'll be fine" spiel. This is fallacy. However, he is an excellent teacher and is exceptionally good at explaining the concepts.
Very good at explaining concepts, but just doing the homework will not prepare you for the tests. The tests are extremily algebra intensive, if you are good at algebraic manipulations this class won't be bad. If you aren't that good with manipulations this class will be a struggle.
Mr. Bevelacqua is incredibly intelligent and friendly. Although, DO NOT TAKE HIS MATH 208 (discrete). All he does is regurgitate the examples in the book, and there are NO practice questions.his tests are devistatingly hard. His writing is so sloppy you cant read what he has written on the board, and he writes VERY fast.I was a 3.9 gps till i met him
Terrible. Impossible to get an A from his hard tests and sloppy writing. Fair lectures, but not good enough to understand the topic. Avoid

He is very good at explaining things but his quizzes are a little bit tricky at times. He grades fair, but he doesn't curve anything and there is no extra credit.
It is very hard to understand his writing, so forget about feedback on tests. Tests are extremely hard compared to assigned problems.
Tough professor, but very good. Does a good job explaining/demonstrating problems. Writing can be pretty bad though. Tests are tough, but you will definitely learn a lot.
Very nice professor. Knows his stuff. Get to know him and you'll do fine. He has written several recommendations for me. Very much enjoyed the class.
Bevelacqua is very funny (in a nerdy way), friendly and helpful. His tests are sometimes difficult and he is a very tough grader. But he grades on a 15% window, so it is not too bad at the end. He assigns homework, but it is never collected. Your class grade is just basically composed of exams.
very tough teacher, class was only graded on 5 tests. but he was a very helpful guy and if you can understand his handwriting you'll do good. would recomend
His handwriting (if you can call it that) is horrible on the board, and since he stands right in front of everything when he writes, by the time he moves and you see what he wrote, he's already 3 steps ahead, which makes it very difficult to comprehend. He doesn't curve, no extra credit, and if the class fails, he's okay with it.
I like this teacher alot! He definatly knows what he is talking about. He is there to help you with whatever questions you may have. He will always go over the homework assignments if you ask too. His handwriting is not the greatest and he moves really fast, but you get the hang of it. I highly recommend him.
He goes through the lessons really fast and found that if someone asks him a question he'll slow down to explain but found it to still be confusing by how he explained some things. His tests weren't bad. Seeing a tutor helped a lot with the things I didn't get in class.
Anthony is very intelligent and knows his class extremely well. What I didn't like is that his class is only graded on exams. I found that the first two tests were graded fairly but the last three were harsh. I would recommend this professor but have to insist that people do their homework!
Online course, all out of the book. The course is made up of exams, quizzes and assignments. Feedback on quizzes and exams are lack luster and normally consist of the number of points deducted. He is very cut and dried on grading, not open to reconsidering points awarded on a questionable deduction. Email exchanges were terse and not helpful.
Worst part of class: handwriting is very unclear. Best part of class: Bevelacqua is a fantastic professor. He is very knowledgeable about the material, has a true passion for it, and does his best to help you learn the material. Tests are difficult, but you can get an A if you study all homework assignments and problem sets.
Dr. Bevelacqua is a very intelligent professor who knows what he is talking about and it helps that he is a good public speaker. His tests are increadibly hard especially for calculus 2. I got a B in is class and his test averages are usually in the 40-60s range. Be prepared to work for your grade. He will answer your questions and is a nice guy.
Tests are very very very hard, when you ask for individual help he tells you to try harder.
I don't know how he does it. The lectures are great, he is helpful, but his exams are killer. I'm a math major and I understand the concepts... I just don't get how he is so great but his exams turn the table on me. I'd recommend another professor because of his exams. His grading window is big, but it makes you feel bad because of the tests. IMO
He's an excellent teacher and teaches in the normal math way of giving a definition doing a proof and then showing examples so if you learn well from this style then Anthony would be a good option. If you're not a good test taker then you may want to think twice because in his Calc 2 the entire grade was based on 4 uncurved tests and that was all
Dr. Bevelacqua is very straightforward. Show up to class, take notes and do the homework and the exams will be easy. The best thing about the class was that it was canceled pretty frequently. Overall, Dr. Bevelacqua is a good professor and I would take him again.
Three tests and a final with occasional homework. Class was canceled frequently, and the tests are hard with a lot of different material. Partial credit is hard to achieve even if you approached the problem the correct way, and if you argue your grade you will only lose points. I do not recommend Dr. Bevelaqua for any class.
Helpful. However beware the tests. You can get everything right but get a poor grade becuase the work was not properly shown. The entire grade is exams and the exams are no joke. Average grade 40-65 for the class. You get higher than that and any other math teacher you would have a B. If math is not your strong suite I would take it from another.
He's a tough grader and an average lecturer. His classes does take work to get a good grade
Loved him. Class was graded on a few things, but for every test we got to use a cheat sheet. If you don't do the homework and understand it, you will not pass.
The worst online class I have ever taken, he gives you little to no guidance and the test are graded very harshly. Right answers mean little, not only must you show detailed work, but you also must explain it. He provides no help and no supplemental teaching aides. Hope you are good at reading math textbooks because that's all you will have........
Hardest class I have ever taken. I had a tutor and spent literally all of my time studying. Then after my proctor took my test to be scanned, she looked at it and said, "Congrats on passing Calculus 1, 2,3 and Differential Equations!" It was supposed to just be Applied Calculus.
If you ask him to do the minimum that any math teacher would do, like work thru a difficult problem since many people are visual learners,he will flat out refuse,& if you keep asking him he will start getting visibly agitated which makes you feel very uncomfortable. Has nothing to do with grading hard or lots of HW, this guy is in the wrong.
Although this class was test/quiz heavy, he was very clear about what was expected on each exam. The day before each test was a review, and often a student would ask "What's the kind of stuff on the exam?", having Dr. Bevelacqua go through any material he could remember putting on the test. Often his tests also had quiz questions from the section.
The exams are nothing like the quizzes and homework. Pretty much he compiles the toughest mix of questions he can associate with the material and says have fun. By the way, now you can't use a even a basic calculator with basic add/subtract multiply/divide functions. Much of the exam time is wasted doing long division and multiplication by hand.
A fairly straight forward math prof. Lectures pretty well and provides decent work and proof for his lecture problems, but his hand writing is pretty bad. Sometimes moves faster in lectures than what you're ready for, but he's always willing to stop for you. Tells you EXACTLY what is on the tests, his test are alright, but his final was very hard.
Teaches math with definitions and few examples. Only fit for a certain type of learner. Quizzes once a week He is not accessible outside class. handwriting is messy. he knows his stuff he just isn't the best straightforward lecturer. Ask loads of specific questions and ask for examples, don't just rely on lectures. Be proactive and you should pass
This is not much of an online class. It is more of a teach yourself the material and they will test you on it. No instructional videos, interactive learning aids, or any interaction at all. He assigns reading and suggested problems with tests consisting of 75% of the grade. Very little feedback on graded homework assignments.
The reason why I come to rate this prof is because he DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS which annoys me a lot... It looks like only ONLINE courses' students have this problem. Grading on homework is fine if you carefully read the book. There's only book and notes he posts you can use. If you depend on the prof to learn, please do not take Math265 online
Moves very fast in lecture and handwriting is terrible. Gives few examples, but will gladly go over any questions you may have. Assignments on Knewton were way harder than anything we would see on written tests, and I spent ALOT of time getting help from tutors. Good at going over theories, but terrible at going over the steps to solve a problem.
Really nice professor, amazing! I'm an international student who stuck with terrible VPN connections but he is such a nice person who is willing to work it out with me over the e-mails. Recommend to other people who are willing to take Math 265 online with him!
Dr. Bevelacqua enjoys his job, and it shows. He cheerfully dispenses mathematics instruction punctuated with the occasional geeky insight. It's that combination that left me with a unique sense of the breadth and beauty of mathematics I don't get from other courses. Expectations are clear with grades from frequent quizzes and occasional tests.
I agree all the comments from that those ones rated him as AWFUL.
Not caring or helpful and tests were brutal. He makes lousy 3-8 minute videos explaining how to do half of the lesson, but the other half you have to teach yourself. Tests were not fair, homework doesn't even cover all the questions. On the FIRST PRECALC TEST, it REQUIRES A DERIVATIVE! NORMALLY TAUGHT IN CALC I, and he doesn't teach it to you.
The professor is not helpful. The course is super hard for it to be “non-rigorous”. There’s only 4 things that you get graded on; Homework (25%), Test 1 (25%), Test 2 (25%), and Test 3 (25%). You will not have any opportunity to do test corrections or extra credit. If you fail you fail.
The online, self-paced class has a very loose structure. It pretty much requires you to find your own resources and teach yourself. This sounds bad but I quite liked it as there are plenty of great lectures and resources you can find to teach yourself Calculus 3. There is not a lot of homework and the tests are relatively easy and fair.
Grade is 80% Exams and 20% quizzes. Lecture is very boring and talks too much with little to no examples. He gives you homework problems for practice, but no credit. If you are bad at self managing, DO NOT take his courses.
The course is very exam heavy, but the homework prepares you well for the exams. There will need to be a lot of outside studying (I didn't find the lecture notes or videos especially that helpful)
Great teacher, teaches to concepts with ample examples and is happy to ask questions if asked. Covers material thoroughly and makes you feel confident about exams by giving clear direction of what will be on the exam and allows a cheat sheet. No homework is graded but quizzes aid your grade and are really easy.
Explains topics fairly clear, but quick; and don't rely on using the lecture notes to write down something you missed during lecture because the handwriting is very messy. Otherwise, gives you the test topics and grades fairly.
Bevelacqua is a great professor. What he goes over in class is what he presents on the tests. His quizzes are also great at preparing you for the tests as well. His notes can be hard to read sometimes but if you are in class following along you will do fine. He is very jovial and great at responding to emails and answering questions in class.
Great Professor, tough course. Your grade consists of weekly quizzes and a few exams. The quizzes are take-home quizzes and you are allowed a note sheet for exams. You are also told what to expect on the exam, you will not be taken by surprise by what is on it. Optional homework is given for extra practice but does not count for a grade.
I heard some poor things about Professor Bevelacqua coming into this class, but I felt like the things I had heard were not very true. Although notes were sometimes a little difficult to read due to sloppy handwriting, he was a very fair grader, awarded lots of partial credit on exams, and even offered a bit of extra credit at the end of the course
Definitely one of those professors who loves what they do. Class consisted of mainly lectures with homework that were not graded, take-home quizzes that were graded, and a few exams which were basically the same as the quizzes. He teaches the course in a way that is helpful to understand visually, even though he claims to be a terrible artist.
Does a good job at explaining concepts, but sometimes the notes are sloppy and difficult to read. Definitely a fast paced course and teaching style is a bit static, but otherwise he's a decent math professor.
Excellent professor. Explained everything in the course in great detail and always put aside class time to make sure any questions we had were answered. None of the homework assignments are graded, so the exams and quizzes he assigns are very important. Definitely would recommend this course.
This professor gives great lectures and seems to really enjoy what he teaches. He is easily accessible and a forgiving grader. I personally believe he is the best instructor in the math department.
This professor clearly loves to teach math, he's a forgiving grader and is willing to go into detail on any questions you have.
I have had a great time taking Calc 3 with Prof. Bevelacqua. His teaching style works well for me. Attendance is not mandatory, but you're going to want to show up since his notes make much more sense while they're being read by him than when you're trying to read his handwriting later. Overall, I had a good semester and he made Calc 3 enjoyable.
Good lectures, weekly quizzes, and exams are the only things graded. However, there are practice problems from the book given each time for optional homework. I only wish there had been more examples or other resources given.
His class was enjoyable
Very helpful lectures with weekly quizzes. Partial credit is very nice on exams for questions that are scored wrong. Would take again.
He is a good professor overall, but in lecture, he moves very fast. He is happy to be interrupted for questions or comments, its just a little difficult to get his attention
Great professor, sometimes the lectures don't match up with the Knewton homework, but he agrees with us students that Knewton is terrible. Tests are worth most of your grade so try to do well on those.
Very knowledgeable professor, knows what he is doing mathematics wise. Lectures tend to be longwinded and fast-paced, but will stop if prompted to. Only tests and quizzes graded, but partial credit graciously given in many places. Overall, a great professor that teaches a tough class at UND!
Very smart, knows what he is doing mathematics wise. Lectures tend to be longwinded and fast-paced, but will stop if prompted to. Only tests and quizzes graded, but partial credit graciously given in many places. Overall, a great professor that teaches a tough class at UND!
He is a very knowledgeable professor. He knows how to communicate the information well. His lectures don't always follow what is on your knewton homework but he is always willing to take questions after class or during his office hours. Spend time in knewtons test review center and you will do fine on the exams.
Dr. Bevelacqua was a good professor. He had interesting and useful lectures that helped me learn and understand the topics. The only problem with this course is it uses Knewton, an online math service, which can be tough. Otherwise, the class is graded fairly and you know what is expected of you. I would take this class or any class with him again.
His teaching was mostly showing where formulas came from which is good sometimes but it takes time away from showing more examples. He is a good teacher and knows his stuff and if you ask him a question he is actually excited to answer because of his passion for math. Great guy but hard class but Calc 2 is already hard so it isn't his fault.
He is very smart when it comes to the concepts that he is teaching. He knows the background of most formulas and the proofs for them. Although he can drag on about the proofs which takes away time for examples. I do recommend this professor if you want to learn about the proofs to each formula and have a better understanding of them.
Never felt like i was wasting time going to his class, does lots of examples which is very needed for Calc 2. Made things easy to understand and i enjoyed his class
He was a really nice teacher and was very knowledgable on the subject. However the only things I didn't like were that there are very little grades, so it was hard to bump up your grade after a bad test. Also it was hard to understand his handwriting on the notes, so I ended up just using the book. Overall it was an easy class.
Very passionate about math and cares for his students. Does a lot of examples in class, but sometimes these examples don't help with our homework (Knewton software). Quizzes are take-home, which is nice. Class usually gets done early. Tests are taken on Knewton as well, which typically gives you mostly 0's on tests, so he gives partial credit.
He is really good professor that cares for his students. His lectures get right to the point, and he explains everything with great detail. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and he provides a lot of example problems as well. However, his handwriting is tough to read sometimes, but you'll get through it.
Professor Bevelacqua has been one of the best professors I've had during my time here at UND. He doesn't care how you turn in homework as long as you turn it in on time. Overall he is a very nice guy with a funny personality. If I have another class where he is an option to be my professor, I will 100% pick him.
He is a very good professor. The lectures cover everything you need to know in order to succeed on the exams and homework. He reviews the material that will be on upcoming exams the lecture prior to the exam which is very helpful.
To be honest, he was one of my favorite professors that I have had so far. I can see how his class might not fit what some people need though. He lectures very fast, and his handwriting isn't exactly legible. However, I think he does a really good job of teaching the content. If you want to pass higher level math, go to class.
Professor B was one of my favorite professors I've had. He's a lighthearted guy and he wants students to succeed. Attendance isn't mandatory, but his handwriting can be a little tough to read so it's best to go to class and follow along. There aren't many graded items, but he goes over the types of problems on every exam which is really helpful.
Professor is a very good teacher, knows what he is talking about. Grade's fairly, just not many assignments to boost your grade. We had 5 homework assignments all year, with 2 tests, and the final. You will have to ask him to slow down sometimes, as he speeds through things very quickly. Great guy, super flexible, I would take his class again.
He has a way of describing things that make sense. I never felt confused during his lectures, except for when I tried to read his handwriting, which can be a little tough.
Professor Bevelacqua was pretty good professor. He does wing it a bit but is very knowledgeable in the subject of linear algebra. His handwriting is a bit to be desired a bit of a mix between cursive and regular writing. He keeps class interesting. It would be nice to use a 4 function calculator on tests so small algebra errors could be avoided.
This class is all dependent on the amount of effort you put into it. The professor has clear lectures and expectations for what he wants. The most challenging part is keeping up with homework that the university uses for all Calc 2 classes. The professor grades everything fairly quickly and is easy to email if something in the grade book if off.
He's an ok professor. He let's you out of class early most of the time and moves very fast. I taught myself a lot of the homework, and a lot of what he does in class isn't the same as the homework. As far as math professors at UND go, he's fine and happily answers questions after class or in his office hours.
I've taken multiple classes from this professor, and he is great. He is very clear with his lectures and what will be on exams. He is also very willing to work with students, and will always take time to answer questions in depth. I absolutely would recommend him for any class.
Very smart and knows what he's talking about, accessible outside of class, and willing to answer any questions. Very fair grader with reasonable amounts of homework. The tests were great, as he went over exactly what was going to be on the test beforehand. The only downside was he has bad handwriting, but you get used to it eventually. Recommend.
Good Professor that clearly cares about what he is teaching. The class is likely most difficult of the calc stretch, but I would say that he manages quite well and always listens and tries to show examples whenever a student is struggling with something.
Class consisted of pretty much only lectures. Very few assignments and tests that were submitted for a grade. Lecture notes could be hard to read at times but will contain all of the information necessary to do the homework/study for tests. He's very open to helping students/answering questions. Gives partial credit to wrong answers.
Very Good Professor, always answered questions and helped students understand the material.
Bevelacqua is one of the better professors for Calc II. Pros are he's very understanding and nice when grading, he usually emails back fast, and he really enjoys math. Cons are there's not a lot of person participation in his classes. You usually watch him do multiple problems and take notes on those. Overall a great professor.
a good professor for a very hard class
very good professor just a very hard class
Really good with questions, both at encouraging them and answering them.
This professor was my favorite professor of all time, he's got a really deep voice. His handwriting isn't very good but I can tell he tries his hardest. You can tell he comes into class without any preparation and just wings it, this is something I appreciate since most professors like to do things by the book. As long as you try you should be fine
He is a great professor. Easy to work with for weekly quizzes if you will not be in class and will miss them. He tells you in advance what will be on each exam to make sure you will succeed and give back partial credit on exams if you show your problem solving process. Connect learning to outside use. Overall 10/10 and would take him over and over.
Class is good, Tests take up large chunk of grade and are very difficult. Only time you will know your frade is at the midterm and at the end of the year.
I've taken a few classes with Professor Bevelacqua and they've all been great. I feel like he gives a good balance of theory and examples in his lectures. If you want to do well in this class you need to show up and take notes. Overall I think he's a great professor and I'm looking forward to taking more with classes with him.
Teaches well, and answers questions well with good examples.
Professor Bevelacqua creates a very easy-going class environment. Calculus II is a difficult course generally, so there may be some hurdles, but he's very good at answering questions and being available as needed.
if you skip class you will not pass.
He seems like a nice professor. We have three exams that were pretty reasonable, He didn't try to trick the students on the exams. He grades the homework pretty hard, but if you do every problem and show your work, you can probably get a good grade on the homework. You should also turn in the homework on time since he's strict about the lateness.
he goes super fast, i kinda cheated my way thru it but goodluck with that
Good professor just tough grading. A few scarce homework assignments make up most of your grade so if you mess up on one or two your grade drops significantly. To the point of even if you get 90+% on your tests and final your still borderline pass/fail.
He Really Good
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Bevelacqua was reasonable and lectures were very clear and easy to follow. The tests were all computational and match the homework and lectures very well. I recommend this class with the professor.
The professor only supplements 2-4 paragraphs of teaching with 4-15 min videos. If you email him, he is not empathetic nor helpful and replies with curt responses. There is no textbook available at the school bookstore. I had to pay a tutor more than the cost of this course to teach me the subject matter. UND should be embarrassed of this course.
Professor Bevelacqua creates an engaging class environment. Calculus II can be challenging, but he's great at answering questions and providing support. I found tools like unstuckstudy really helpful for study prep too.
I took this course online, but Prof. Bevelacqua was always kind and respectful via email. He was willing to answer questions and offered individualized feedback on every assignment, which was appreciated. The course is time-consuming and pretty hard, but reasonable.
Super awesome and funny guy. Great at explaining course material, and super respectful of all students' time and questions. Lectures were very consistently paced. Weekly (2-3 question) quizzes, 3 exams, and the final are all you are graded on, so a bit test-heavy, but very, very homework-light. All lecture notes are posted as well.
Great guy, funny too. Lectures and his notes are pretty 1:1 with the textbook and he assigns (ungraded) homework from the textbook. He's very patient with questions even outside of class time, and he explains things in a simple and easy way to understand. Exams are only around 5-10 questions and almost always easier than the recommended problems.
Best calc 3 professor at UND. Clearly lays out what questions will be on exams, and allows formula sheet as well. Friendly and is helpful if you ask questions in class. Very ideal professor especially for a class like calc 3. If you have the option, absolutely take Anthony Bevelacqua.
