Great teacher but he makes his tests very difficult.
One of the best professors at UCF!
Nicest guy on campus. Cares about how his students do.
One of the best Professors @ UCF. He is young and relates well to the students. Highly advise him over others.
I got a D in the class because I am an idiot, completely my fault not his. Honestly, the most sincere professor in my long history of being a student. Cares about his students and is extremely smart. Take Byrd over the others. Great guy.
Class is very clear to understand and very easy if you do all the practice test, real tests are exactly the same.
Not as hard as everyone thinks it is. Go to class for lecture and GO TO LABS. TA's are AWESOME. Go to the HelpDesk. As long as you practice the problems, its easy.
This class was one of the easiest and most useful I have taken at UCF. Go to class and Labs and you will pass without trying. TAs are awesome!!
Awesome professor! However, YOU MUST STUDY for his tests. The class is great if you STUDY and really understand the material. If you don't understand the material go to the help desk, the TA's are sooo helpful (and some of the guys are kinda cute:)
Quizes are nothing like the tests. Comprehensive final. I have to retake the course.
Good teaching, He is great, the lab instructors suck. Tests are hard. I barely passed. But Byrd is awesome. Take him over anyone else
This class is not a big deal. No text book required just purchase notetaking guide and the calculator. Do the homework in the guide and class is very easy
Don't know what all these people are talking about he is one of the worst teachers I've ever had here at UCF, teaching us something via TA's before a quiz is extremely wrong IMO. Quizzes are completely different from the tests and doesn't lecture too well
Byrd is cool, Lecture goes right with Note-taking guide. Do practice problems b4 quizzes and study for exams. I didn't use text. TA's/Labs suck but required.
Byrd is chair of finance department and he rushed through all the material. His lectures were inconculsive to the quizzes/exams and completely unhelpful. The Lab's were horrible, not enough time to finish quiz/tests. He won't compromise at all, I tried.
I did horrible in the class (got a D) but it wasn't Byrd's fault.I'm jsut not good at it.As for the TA's/labs,I found them helpful when i did go up there.Like they say, its not their job to spoonfeed us.Dont' blame others when you're too stupid to study!
The class avg. for final = 65% I DID study but majority of students didn't have time to finish final, and we weren't given the usual final exam time (2 hours plus). I got a D in class and had GPA of 3.7 (not anymore) Byrd didn't compromise. TAs=unhelpf
HE WANTS THE STUDENTS TO LEARN SO HE HELPS FROM HIS VERY BEST
I found him to be very helpful and informative. He made the material interesting and easy to understand. The tests are very similar to the practice questions in the study guide. Only complaint - he moves quickly through material.
Not ,teaching this semester. But took him last semester and he's a real *&^%. Went to him before drop and made it seem like if my grades got better he would pass me, which they did. Then I got my grades and he gave me an F. Thanks for the heads up!!
regardless of who you take for your basic finance class, if you want to succeed you need to spend hours in the finance lab, working with the TA's - you can earn an A but know there are no easy way to do it.
seems like a nice guy
Easiest class in the business program. I didn't study until the night before and got A's on all the exams!
I am not sure what the guy that just posted before is smoking but FIN3403 is not easy!. I spent many hours practicing for the tests and quizzes and still ended up with a D. All of you who say this class is easy, you are full of *&%$.
If you read the book and pay attention in class you should have no problem getting a good grade in the class. Two free questions on each test.
Dr. Byrd is a great teacher. He has a custom workbook that will guide you through the class and his lectures are awesome. He does his best to answer any questions and if you go to class you will do fine. Dr. Byrd is the man.
Good professor. Good notes and explaines concepts. You need to go to most classes and labs. You will probably need to go to the finance help desk (helps a lot). There are 4 exams and 5 quizzes (in labs). there are sometimes in class/lab pop quizzes but they arent worth very much.
loved his class, make sure you go to labs, because they are huge lectures and he cant get into all the details all the time. really nice, too, very respectful of students.
I had 2 classes with Dr. Byrd before UCF switched to the group class crap. As a lecture professor he was very clear and logical and I learned a lot in both classes. However I got complaints from friends who I recommended him to a year later. He is blamed for the problems with trying to teach in the group style which does not work.
dr. byrd is a very smart guy. he knows what hes talking about. however, sitting in the lecture makes your eyelids feel like they are 100 lbs each. very boring! this class is really easy... everything is about learning how to use a calculator... i got all a's on the tests... just do the practice exams and go to the labs and youll do fine.
The class is pretty easy. Just go to the lecture and follow along with the powerpoints and the note guide. The labs are the most helpful, though, as they provide small classes with the types of problems that you'll find on the exams. Byrd was very hard to get a hold of via e-mail, though.
Finance isn't the most exciting subject but this class really wasn't that hard. It seemed like it was going to be, but if you know the problems well, you'll do fine on tests. Make sure to study definitions and stuff too because on tests he sometimes puts confusing theory questions.
If you're taking Business Finance, take him. Period. He is extremely clear in all of his lectures, and his practice problems / quizes are JUST like the actual exams. He will also curve if the class average is below a 75 on any one exam.
He actually makes Finance as interesting as it can be, and he clearly outlines what you need to focus on. The individual quizzes have unlimited tries, and they are usually just a little harder than the actual test, so by the time you get to the test, it is so easy!
The only class I have ever failed at UCF
Great Class..Interesting. A very kind and helpful professor. Was 1 point away from an A and he helped me out. Usually curves
Byrd is the best. He Makes things extremely clear and teaches well. Does everything he can to prepare you for the tests. The people that rated him poorly are dumb anyways so don't listen to them. Byrdman is awesome.
demanding. teaches you one way, questions you a different way
Lets you take individual quizzes unlimited times, gives you practice exams identical to tests and so much more. Finance help desk is really helpful as long as you don't wait until test week to ask for help. Go to labs and read the discussion boards if you have questions for the online work. Never read the book or watched videos- Got more than 100%!
One of the few professors of a large class that actually seems to genuinely care if you do well. Shows up at study labs even though T.A.s are supposed to run those. Very nice guy. I didnt do well in the class, but it was not because Dr. Byrd wasn't a very good professor. I highly recommend him for this difficult subject.
Dr. Byrd is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He is an extremely nice guy and does everything he can to make sure you succeed. I truly looked forward to his classes. Great Teacher TAKE HIM!
One word for this professor: AWESOME. Do your part and you'll do fine. This is a REAL professor - he truly teaches and he provides all kinds of tools to help. TA's are the best!
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. Genuinely cares for his students' learning. Very efficient in running the course. Plenty of information provided. Always willing to help students. Not an easy course, but you receive the grade you earn. One of the best professors in the College of Business. Recommended.
He is an excellent professor. I was afraid of taking Finance but he made it easy to understand. Its not an easy A. He provides you with absolutely everything you need to get the A but its up to you to actually do the work and study. Like someone said, you get the grade that you deserve in his class! You really learn a lot in his class!
Dr. Byrd is very clear when explaining the concepts and calculations in class. He provides you with all the materials you will need to get the A in class. (You need to do your part too) I would take him again if I could!
This class itself is not easy. You will pass with an A or B if you have the time to dedicate to understanding the concepts. The help desk really comes in handy which is where I learned and practiced most. Byrd is a great professor, take him!! Get the note taking guide, not the book.
Dr. Byrd makes this class and all the material covered in it crystal clear. I watched the lectures online and took notes in the study guide (it's 100% worth the $50) and was getting 95%'s on the test. Great professor that really seems to care how all 1,000+ students are doing in the class.
Dr. Byrd makes this class and all the material covered in it crystal clear. I watched the lectures online and took notes in the study guide (it's 100% worth the $50) and was getting 95%'s on the test without opening the book. Great professor that really seems to care how all 1,000+ students are doing in the class.
Difficult material. He explains the problems well in class and goes over many examples. If you take the quizzes over and over and the practice exams, you will get an A. But, you have to work for it! The information is relevant outside of the classroom! Enjoyed his class!
Buy the study guide, watch the lectures and do the quizzes and modules and you'll get an A. The material is not that hard, especially with Dr. Byrd teaching it. This class is very straightforward. Dr. Byrd rocks!
great teacher, makes the class very simple didnt even open the book. the study guide is well worth it. watch the videos do the quizzes and you'll be good to go if you can work with numbers but even if your not he is a great teacher and explains the material really well
Byrd is a good professor. You kind of need to watch the lectures unless you really understand it. Don't need the book or study guide really. If you can do the quizzes and understand how to get the answer you should be fine for the exams. Not an easy A, but if you put at least some effort, you should be able to get a B.
Professor Byrd is a good teacher. He goes over concepts well and makes sure you understand what you are doing. You dont have to watch the lectures unless youre really clueless about how to use your financial calculator. Buy the study guide and really PRACTICE THE PROBLEMS UNTIL YOU GRASP THE MATERIAL and you will be fine. Its really not that hard.
He is a great teacher! Difficult class because I'm not a Finance guy, but with enough concerted effort you can do well. UCF needs more guys like Byrd.
He was a decent teacher. He gave lots of examples and went over examples throughly, but somehow I did horrible on his tests, and yes, I did put forth effort in studying. He seems nice, but his tests are hard, or tricky, or something.
Byrd's exams are purposely difficult. The questions are worded to trick you into loosing understanding of the material, resulting in wrong answers. End of the day-Take Ann Whyte
Very understandable answers questions clearly. Provides tons of examples and helpful tools. Knows what he's talking about. Overall enjoyed the class!
Really nice guy. Through his lectures and Friday help sessions the material really sinks in through repetition. The Finance Help desk helps tremendously right before an exam. Overall really great professor who knows how to teach (through repetition and reasonable pacing). With a little studying easily can achieve an "A"
He's awesome! He never ignores your question including e-mail & always respect the students.
Prof. Byrd is a very good teacher. His tests are straight to the point and it's easy to get over 100% on his exams with the extra credit. People who do bad on his tests just haven't done the work so definitely take him.
Awesome prof. Very nice guy and very helpful. Everything is extremely organized and straight forward. The quizzes are kind of a pain but they help prepare for the tests. Tests aren't bad as long as you keep up with everything. I would definitely take him again for any finance class.
I was going into this class thinking " I am going to fail"..but i was COMPLETELY wrong. The professor has everything so laid out so detailed that there is now way you can get lost, unless you don't stay on track. Otherwise than that the quizzes and everything else helps a lot for the exams. Trust me TAKE HIM.
really wish i got a better start off to the class.its not the worst class in the world but i got a bad start off and now im paying for it now. go to class, watch the lectures and dont slack. study guide book helps a lot.i wish i would have followed this advice in the beginning.i def could have done better but the class is not bad if you try ur best
If you take this professor, do not expect to actually learn about anything but basic financial accounting and the complex workings of your calculator. While the book covers many topics in detail, complete with formulas, you will only ever use calculator functions to arrive at your answer. If you attempt to use the formulas, you will fail the class.
Very organized. If you don't have knowledge of a financial calculator or finance in generall this class may be difficult and you will need to stay on top of it. Everything builds off of each other. I had a good understanding of finance when I started and found it pretty easy and enjoyed additional articles and use of excel. Real life stuff.
I was terrified of this class, but this guy is incredible. He explains everything so clearly and his tests are straight forward, no tricks. His quizzes are open to take over and over, you have to practice but I ended with with over 100% in the class. LOVED IT!
The most org class ever, shows what a non lazy prof is capable of, Byrd = great! Buy the study guide used, i did and the book was already written in so I just studied from it and put in the effort watched all classes redo quizs for exams.
Best prof at UCF by far. Explains everything in detail and offers many ways to get a high grade. This guy made me want to change my major to finance
Very easy class, people ask same question 3-4 times, and he answer them every time without getting mad, if you study 24 hours before taking the test, they will be very easy.
Professor Byrd teaches you things in a way that you will actually learn them. You really do need the calculator, without it you'll be completely lost. But his teaching will definitely give you the solid foundation in Finance you'll need later on. I'd take him for every class if I could.
this guy is the nicest prof i ever met wants everyone to do well and will provide you with all the tools to get an A in the class the hp 10bII is a must. take him you will love for sure
He is the BEST! it was very easy for me. his lectures are not boring to watch. I used a book only for defenitions. Take him
There is a lot of information on each test and a lot of small steps that you have to remember. The teacher is very clear when he explains how to do a problem. If you make sure to get a 100 on all of the quizzes which should be easy then you should do fine.
Kind of hard class, but you can make it easy by knowing how to use your financial calculator, and watching or attending your lectures. Definitely go to the class with the TA's teaching. He has some easy attainable points (quiz and modules) Test were based of the knowledge of the quizzes, Overall he's a great teacher and person but the test are hard
this class is a great class. Professor does a good job of teaching this course. There is a lot of material, but if you do your work you can get an A. If you work towards your grade you can achieve success. If you are lazy then it will be hard. Just do all the work and modules and practice the material.
Make sure you watch the videos from the lab portion because they go over information that is very useful on the tests/quizzes. As long as you really study and keep up with all the assignments you can get an A. He gives 2pts on every test and the 2nd test is the hardest. Cum. Final but as long as you put the work in, an A is possible
Professor BYRD is the best professor i have taken!!!! Got a 98% in his class. Quizes you can do as many times as you want, only highest grade will count, he is very easy to understand, very clear on what will be on exams. It is nearly impossible not to get an A. Dont buy book, just buy his quide and you will be 0k
Dr. Byrd is AWESOME! He explains efverything clearly, provides you with all the materials that you need to succeed, and is very encouraging. I did not buy the text, nor the study guide; I just used his power point slides. Do not slack! Do the quizzes and modules and watch the videos. I ended up with over 100% in the class!
Class is straight-forward, but just as easy to fall behind. For tests, make sure you practice all problems from class lectures and labs-not just the quizzes. Practice a lot to get familiar because of the time-limit on exams (I ran out time during the final exam). Module assignments offer real-world insights to course material.
Very straightforawrd class, as long as you watch the powerpoints and discussion sessions on friday's you will get an A. Fill out the workbook its very helpful! Tests are not easy but not impossible. You definitely have to know the material and practice the problems several times. A LOT of financial calculator work. Good class!
Dr. Byrd explains things simply and doesn't overwhelm with a lot of work. The lab done by T.A.'s is not as good and at one point I was so confused afterward, I never got it straight. Would definitely take a class of his again.
Hard class. Has a high drop rate among business majors. You must not slack going into the first test. So many people drop after first test. All math, either know it or dont. #3 is crazy hard. I don't understand why so many "easy" ratings. This is only easy if you put in hours of work. Easy is every other class in the business majors.
Great class. Great teacher. I didn't get the workbook, although now I know I should have. The guy does want everyonr to do well, and pretty much acknowledges that it's a weed out class. This is without a doubt the hardest I've studied/practiced in any class, but I actually enjoyed it. I learned a ton in this class that I can use later in life.
I enjoyed this class. It is all math and difficult but as long as you keep up and do your work, you'll be fine. I think the textbook and note taking guide are optional because he posts EVERYTHING needed for class. I also agree with another posted that Exam 3 is a killer! I highly recommend Dr. Byrd.
I thought this class was extremely easy. The professor is extremely helpful and VERY easy to understand. I would suggest for you to get the handbook or whatever is called. I did not use the textbook and I got an A+. Awesome professor would recommend him!!!
This class is doable if you practice the homework, watch the lectures, etc. I didn't buy the book or the note taking guide, and got a B. Wish that I would have at least gotten the guide. He is really easy to understand, and welcomes questions. Great professor!
I am so grateful that I took this class. He is a phenomenal teacher and so kind and helpful to students. oesn't try to trick you, is very straightforward and explains things in simple terms yet doesn't make you feel stupid. His notetaking guide is very helpful, he prepares you well for the tests. Take this class, you wont regret it!
It doesn't get any better than this. Dr. Byrd explains everything. He gives extra credit. If you do the practice exercises, you're so ready for the exam. I even thought about changing my major to finance.
One of the best I have ever had. If the subject matter isn't easy to you it will be a lot of work. But he makes it very easy to understand. Watch all the lectures (or go to class), even the review sessions they are very helpful. Use all study materials, worksheets he does during class and quizzes. Do the work and you'll get an A!
Very nice and helpful professor. Wants you to understand the concepts and succeed. Attendance is not mandatory, textbook is not mandatory. Super easy class, he basically just teaches you basics of finance and how to use a financial calculator. Practice makes perfect in this class! 4 Exams, 10 HW, & 10 Quizzes (unlimited attempts on HW and Quizzes)
Great Professor! I didn't purchase any of the textbooks and got an A but probably would have benefitted from his notetaking guide. Watch the lectures and especially watch the friday help sessions to learn the problems.
good professor. note taking guide highly recommended. book only useful for concept definitions- there will be a few on every test. watch the friday review lectures and do practice problems. got an A+
Not a bad class. I had to use the help desk a lot as it was a lot of new material. Don't really use the textbook that much. You could buy the note taking guide if you want - makes it easier - but all of the material is available to be printed out. Instructions are clear and the help is there.
Amazing professor. Finance is not an easy topic, so you will have to work for it. Watch the lectures, do the work, study and I don't see why anyone cannot get an A. I actually got a 100 on 2 of the exams. Bryd actually is the reason I changed my major to finance. Best professor I've ever had.
GREAT professor! I personally SUCK at anything finance and math related, but Byrd as a wonderful teacher and thoroughly explains EVERYTHING. the notetaking guide is very helpful for this class. You do not need the textbook though.
UCF needs more professors like him. He is super nice. He KNOWS how to teach and hes very knowledgeable. Best professor I've had. You learn so much in this class!!!
Easily the best business teacher I've had at UCF thus far. Not the easiest class by any means, but he does a great job explaining each and every chapter, and makes sure everyone understands thoroughly. Very easy to talk to. Watch the lectures, go over all the practice problems, and do all the quizzes and you'll do just fine.
WOW!! This was an excellent professor. I am HORRIBLE at business math, actually dropped it a few semesters ago with Whyte got an A with Byrd. He idiot proofs finance for you, and the TA's do it again on Fridays. USE THE NOTE TAKING GUIDE!And know the quizzes well before exams and you'll be fine! Unlimited attempts on HW and quizzes as well!!
Really hard class but helpful professor. Definitely buy the notetaking guide, and go to all his classes and help sessions and an A is achievable!
There are not enough good words to describe how great and pleasant was to have Dr. Byrd as a professor. Give yourself the opportunity to get educated by a very dedicated and knowledgeable instructor since the chances to find quality education are getting slimmer as the days go by. Assignments are very clear and there is no need for the book. Enjoy!
Awesome and fantastic. Watch the Friday review sessions, do the practice problems on the note taking guide, know a few definitions from the book, do the homework, do the quizzes, and an A is achievable. Very easy class. Good luck.
Watch the lectures and the help sessions. Prof goes over everything you will need to know for the exams in extensive details and goes to painstaking measures to help you understand the material. Note taking guide was very helpful, and content was never too challenging. Great teacher for non-finance majors.
Take him if you can! Watch the lectures, use the note-taking guide (don't need the book) and make sure you have a financial calculator! Explained thoroughly and every test is curved with 2 bonus questions.
Professor Byrd is the best! He very patiently explains formulas, has excellent communication, and answers all questions. I loved this class. I would recommend taking this class first before taking any other business classes because all the others build on the basic knowledge of these formulas which are NOT hard if you follow his lead!
Best professor I ever had
Easily the best teacher I've ever had. His passion for philosophy shows through his lectures. I've never respected a teacher more than I respect Professor Byrd. You must take this class, I would take it every semester if I could. If you feel like skipping class, don't. Every lecture is valuable to your success on the tests.
Professor Byrd is an amazing teacher to take for this class. Tests can be tough if you don't study hard. Make sure to watch the lectures and do the practice exams. He keeps the class interesting by using real world examples.
One of the best teachers I've had at UCF. He is very good at explaining the material and makes it a lot easier to understand. The tests can be tough if you don't study or go to class but it's really an overall great class. I would take him again if I could and would definitely recommend him.
Professor Byrd was absolutely WONDERFUL! He helped me decide to become a Finance major! Easiest class that I've ever taken. He is clear and thorough with his lectures. He puts as many practice problems up as you need and they are pretty much 100% identical to those on the tests. He never tests you on something you didn't cover. Book is not necesary
4 tests, each 20% of grade. Apprx 20 other assigns remain 20%. Not reg'l campus friendly-last lecture re:test on Mon, test open Tue & close Thur. Tests worded differently than practice-need to understand "concepts". Formulas given on test-need to understand how to use them. Workbook covers everything. No textbook needed. Poor grading re:curve.
Prof Byrd is a genuinely nice guy. He cares for his students. But his tests are very tough. Kind of class where you are either good at it or you are not. He words tests differently than practice tests. Again tests very tough. Many students struggle to pass. No book required. Notetaking Guide helpful but not necessary. Glad I am not a Finance major
Great teacher! He puts the concepts into real life examples and helps you understand why you're doing the problems. Unlimited attempts on modules & quizzes. Four tests and no minus grading scale.
Very organized professor. He gives you the tools not just to pass the class, but to learn new things about the current market. I loveedd the Study Note guide he made us buy. So useful!!! He is an awesome professor who really wants to see his students succeed. 4 Exams (The final is cumulative), 4 Quizzes, & 4 journal assignments.
You will definitely learn crucial information pertaining to business in this course and it will help you in other business courses as well. Dr. Byrd explains things clearly and responds to e-mails quickly. Make sure you study the material - practice is the key. Don't procrastinate, or your grade may suffer. An A is achievable. Great professor!
Professor Byrd is one of the best professors I have had. I am obsessed with learning, he explains the material in the simplest terms while still applying it to real world finance. This class was by far the hardest I have taken; not because of class but because of content. Be ready to learn and practice!!! Lots!!!!
Review Class online and go to tutor if you do not get absolutely anything, it helps a lot.
Amazing professor. don't skip the lectures. BEST ADVICE TO PASS EXAMS: Buy the study cube and read over the entire thing. Then take the quiz at least twice prior to taking the exam. The exam has the SAME questions as the ones on the quiz but with different numbers. Every exam has 22 questions but is graded out of 20. My final grade was over 100%.
Dr Byrd should teach both ACG 3173 and FIN 3403 because they are literally almost identical and would probably make everyone in COBA student pass without rethinking their majors. He respects students and gives them chance to ask questions. Tests are identical to his practice and quizzes. Tests are over 22 but only grades 20, so 2 extra credits!
Easiest class of my life. He taught the material very well and provided practice exams for us to study. You have an opportunity to receive 10% extra credit on every exam you take. I ended up with over 100% on each exam.
He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about finance. The class is pretty tough. You absolutely HAVE to practice, otherwise you won't do well on the exams. Gives 2 points of extra credit on each exam. He was always willing to answer questions. Overall, he was a great professor. You just have to put in the work.
This subject wasn't easy but his assignments and quizzes are unlimited attempts and he curves the final if he feels the need to (if low average overall on the final). He lectures in a way that makes sure you understand the material and I recommend investing in the Notetaking guide... all his lecture notes and practice quizzes are there.
Professor Byrd is by far one of my favorite professors in the college of business. He makes finance easy to understand. His test are not hard as long as you get the subject matter. Study the concepts and practice the practice questions he gives out and you should make an A in this class.
The material is tough, but he explains everything in the lectures. He is generous with extra credit by assigning take home quizzes and 2-3 extra credit questions on the exams. If you do poorly in this class it is your fault and not the professors.
Great professor- he gives tons of resources to study for the exams. The material is tough but it's easy with all of the sample questions that he puts on the powerpoint slides and does in class.
I took FIN 3403 with Dr. Byrd last semester and I really enjoyed it. This man knows what he is doing! He has the ability to explain complex concepts with ease and simplicity. He also does a great job answering questions and clearing up confusion.
He is the best professor at UCF
Dr. Byrd is extremely good natured, you can tell he is passionate about his students and teaching. Tests were somewhat difficult but the subject matter was clear.
Tests are difficult but study the questions in the back on each reading to prepare. Pay attention to his lectures, he explains exactly how to go through the computations. Dr. Byrd is my favorite professor at UCF. He really does care about his students, is available to assist and wants his students to succeed.
He is a great professor and explains the material so well. His final doesn't include the first exam material and his homework is very easy. He genuinely cares about his students and shows us all his "tricks" I took decision making accounting at this same time and his lectures helped so much with that class. It isn't an easy class but not so bad.
I'm not a finance major so this class was tough for me, but Byrd did his best to make the topics clear and understandable. DO NOT SKIP LECTURES. Yes he provides his lecture power points online, but watching him work through them helps so much. He will supply you with a lot of study resources, so take advantage. Exams are tough but doable.. STUDY!
This was my second time taking FIN 3403. Last semester my professor was awful. Byrd is the best professor I have ever had at UCF. He takes time to answer student questions and will make sure you have an understanding of the material. He is very passionate about his class.
Excellent professor.
I am not a fan of this professor at all. He is nice but this class is extremely confusing and I would not recommend taking him.
I couldn't imagine learning such difficult material without an amazing professor like Dr. Byrd! Although some students might say he is unfair for letting some students have extra time to take exam 2 due to issues in the testing center, not including me, he is still fair and an A is very achievable if you watch lectures and study. Great professor!!
Loved this class! Super great teacher
Makes it VERY easy to get an A. You have to put in the work of practicing, but he is very nice and clearly states what is on his test, as well as supplies you with the materials to study successfully for them.
Dr. Byrd is pretty awesome. I don't like finance (still) but he taught the information really well and with good energy and I probably would've done significantly worse if it weren't for him being my teacher.
For a finance major, it was mandatory to get a B in this class. I barely got it because the class is based on 80% exams and 20% quizzes. The tests are 22 questions and graded out of 20. I had to watch every lecture and I still had trouble understanding the material. He's nice but only teaches the simple versions of the work on the actual exams.
Hes a very nice guy and lectures are boring but a lot of information is given. The practice tests are very similar to the exams but you still need to understand concepts for his exams. Take the time to learn concepts cuz every exam had about 4 Questions and thats the difference between an 80 and a 60. easy homework final and every exam is curved
I took this class with Whyte and got an F, its not her fault but she was definitely a lot harder. I took it again and just got an A, this is honestly one of my favorite classes. I won't lie you WILL need to put in a good amount of effort. My advice is GO TO THE HELP DESK, the GAs are literal angels lol. Byrd is a good guy and VERY understanding
def watch ALL of the lectures & do the quizzes several times (similar to tests). Your grade is earned based on how much you keep up with the class; it's not an "I'll cram the day before the test" kind of class. He explains things extremely well & has been my fav professor at UCF. I wish he didn't weigh tests so heavy but I would def take him again
Fall 2016 UCF FIN3403 Dr. Anthony Byrd is a solid professor. He is really thorough on his teachings by teaching one day on concepts of the chapter and the other for practing the math part. Textbook was useless. One bad thing is that he doesn't lecture and explain about the hardest problems of the quiz and practice exams because they are on te
He is a great professor. If you watch the lectures, he is really clear and you can pick up on the material so easily. He is such a sweet and kind man. I got a 96 in the class and a lot of my friends got A's too. He works with you and really cares about students. He is the sole reason I changed my major to finance. I highly recommend.
One of the best teachers I've taken. Clearly explains each topic in detail while preparing you for the test. Also one of the easiest A's I've ever made even though I'm not a finance major. Topics are interesting and Bryds style of teaching is superb would recommend to everyone I know.
This was one of the most difficult classes I've taken at UCF and it does not help that the exams are 80% of your grade. In other courses, even if you bomb the exams, there are other assignments that can help boost your grade. Not in this course. Not a horrible professor, there should just be more assignments to help grasp the information.
Prof Byrd makes it easy to pass. His homework and quizzes are unlimited attempts. Test have two extra credit questions each time so that gives you a bonus. I loved the study guide, and if you get that you don't really need the text book. I suggest taking the quiz before the test since they are very similar. Easy A in my opinion, but watch lecture.
This professor is awesome. Keeps you motivated during the course, clearly explains material and is excited to teach, which is a huge plus to me. Course was tough and you have to earn your grade, but he provides you with all of the resources to get the grade you want out of the course. This professor is why I ultimately chose the finance route.
Dr. Byrd is a great man and teacher. The material is very hard and if you don't get a good start right off the bat you will have a hard time catching up. Very few grades so make sure you don't get lower than a C on a test.
Dr. Byrd is one of the best professors at UCF. His passion about finance shows in his lectures which make the material easier to understand. You HAVE TO watch all of the lectures and take notes, do not expect an easy A. It is a tough class but he made it pretty simple; only part that makes it hard is that your grade is mostly coming from your tests
I took him for Financial Statement Analysis. Solid professor for this class and the material isn't too difficult. I recommend him for both FIN 3043 and FIN 3461
By far my favorite professor I have ever taken. You can see his passion shine through and it really reaches his students. He's the whole reason I am a finance major. He is extremely helpful and is there for you. I HIGHLY recommend taking any class he teaches, you will not regret it!
Dr Byrd was a consummate professional and clearly an expert in the field. His lectures were very organized and specific, conveyed with passion, and critical to achieving a good grade. Watch the lectures, take notes, and practice any problems and you will do well.
Professor Byrd is a very skilled professor. He's articulate, organized, and helpful. He's always asking if there are any questions during lecture. I also appreciate the resources he provides, including practice tests, quizzes (unlimited attempts), exam reviews, and terms to study. He makes it possible for anyone to pass with a A. Just practice!
Great professor and definitely knows his stuff. Very organized and assignments are clear cut for you. He likes to bring the theory back down to Earth, and tells you want is useful to know and what is not.
Great class!
Amazing professor. Loved watching his lectures. BUY THE WORKBOOK. It makes note taking and staying orgainzed 10X easier, which makes the class 10X more enjoyable. Don't be afraid to watch lectures more than once. Work through all the lecture/practice probs, & you should do peachy. Don't forget studying vocab for the chapters when taking the test.
Byrd is a great professor but his class is not a joke. It's difficult
Great professor, save your money on the book and buy the workbook! Quizzes are a great study tool for the exams. Watch lectures!
Byrd is a great professor, but like others have said, you gotta work for that A. Tests are 80% of your grade and grades are on the +/- scale, so be careful! To do well on tests, study vocab and problems from lectures and practice tests/quizzes. Like Byrd says, "Practice, practice, practice!" TA's are also very helpful
Great professor!!!
Dr. Byrd has a clear grading scale with 80% of your grade coming from exams. His lectures are 100% relevant to the exams, but make sure to study vocab. He tries to relate in class lessons to real life which is nice. His HWs are unlimited try, so they are an easy 100. The only negative is you have to get a 93 for A.
I don't understand all of the good reviews, considering how much I've seen people struggle in this course. Byrd is a nice person, but this class is difficult. If you want an A you have to WORK for it. I got almost perfect scores on all of the homework and failed because I had bad test scores. If you do bad on 1-2 tests or just a bad test taker.. GL
Not gonna lie, this class is really hard, but Byrd broke a lot of the hard things down really nicely. I got the note taking guide and it helped tremendously. Practice is the key to this class! Also dont skip out on studying the terms, which is basically what I used the book for. Quizzes were great study tools and had unlimited attempts.
Professor byrd was the best professor. Class is overall not that hard if you wiling to put some time for it. Test are worth 80% of your grades, so make sure be ready from beginning . I ended up with 89.5 but he usally curve about couple point at end of class. So, I got A in class. Highly, recommend this professor for finance class.
Exams are 25 questions, most of which are math based. All math related questions are covered in class and the quizzes are a GREAT way to practice them. There's 3-6 conceptual (definitional) question which all come from his "know these terms" list that he uploads for each test. No HW besides the quizzes (on canvas) which are unlimited attempts.
This class is the hardest class I've ever taken and I'm an accounting major. Had to go to the help desk all the time, studied so much, and still struggled. The professor is great, very smart and interested in the subject. I don't know if it was the material or how he taught it, but he gave me my first B(+) of my college career. Proceed with caution
One of the best professors I've ever had! Super nice, respectable guy who really cares about his students. Tests are based on in class examples (which he posts on webcourses) so the class is an Easy A. 10% of your grade is from in class assignments that count for participation only- so if you're there you get a 100. Definitely take him if possible
It is one of the Productive and useful courses I have ever had. Professor Byrd is so knowledgeable and humble that he makes the finance course vivid and easier. Highly recommend!
Really good professor, very nice and prepares you well for the exam. Fair class
Be prepared to study and really work hard for an A! Do not fall behind in this class or else you will get lost with a lot of the material towards the end of the course. Professor Byrd gives you all the tools to success and is very helpful with questions. Also make sure you get really good grades on his exams since they are weighted so heavily.
Don't be scared of this finance class. Byrd is an amazing professor, and he breaks down everything into very simple, easy to understand concepts and materials. Put in the time and effort and you'll get your A for sure. Once you understand the basics this class should be very easy. Just practice a whole bunch. Also, don't be lazy, just get the book.
best professor ever!
Do yourself a favor and complete every single practice quiz and graded quiz he uploads on Webcourses. The practice quizzes are not graded, but will help you on the exams. Comprehensive final. He tells you exactly what to study. No homework in this class. Approachable and knowledgable professor. Practice, practice, practice is key for this class.
He is very organized. Watch his lecture videos and write notes on them. Do not fall behind because there is a lot of material covered in this class. Amazing professor.
I had to retake this class since I needed a B but that's my own fault. Try to study the material as it comes out, if you wait until the last minute the tests become extremely difficult. In class sessions were easy and only 10 questions, Dr. Byrd was always happy to help when our group had trouble. There is also a free 2-4% curve at then end.
Recieved in A in Byrd's class, he is a great professor BUT I will warn people that this class is pretty challenging. I would not suggest taking FIN3403 with other difficult courses I had to eat, breath, and sleep Finance to get that A and I was only enrolled part time when i did that. Was the hardest thing I've ever achieved at UCF.
I really enjoyed Byrd as a professor. A lot of people don't do well in these classes because of the REAL format but Byrd makes things simple and does a great job teaching. I highly suggest the note taking guide. I also only used the real textbook for definitions.
Definitely the reason i decided to stick with Finance. Genuinely loves what he does and is so quick to help you out with no judgements at all. The best professor at UCF.
Amazing professor. Genuinely cares about the success of his students and doesnt overcomplicate things like some other professors do. Just take the initiative to study his notes videos and practice quizzes and youll get an A no problem.
Dr. Byrd is such a nice person. You can tell that he really enjoys teaching this subject. His online lectures were great. I liked that he had a sense of humor in the lectures and exams by adding funny questions. Overall, a great class with a great professor. You can't go wrong with Dr. Byrd.
One of the best professors I've ever had! His online lectures are excellent, he made me understand the whole content. This course is all about practice, but if you use the practice quizzes and the graded quizzes he provides, and also pay attention to his videos, you will definitely get an A.
Dr. Byrd is very nice, but I do not like the way he does his grading. All grades are based off tests/quizzes, no other work is submitted. The way the material is set up in his online lectures is great I must say. The way he teaches through his videos has helped me tremendously.
Byrd is a nice prof. He provides 1 extra credit question on every test and a curve at the end of the semester which is EXTREMELY generous. The class layout itself is poor solely because he gives simple examples in his vids but expects us to do much more difficult problems with very little explanation. If he gave worked examples it'd be much better!
Dr. Byrd is so sweet! :) I didn't think this class was hard but I think the subject matter came pretty easy to me. Watch his videos for exams and apart from that, you have to take vocab notes from the textbook, and do the practice quizzes. They are very helpful!
Let me start off by saying prof Byrd attended only 1 of the 5 classes we had. His ALL sessions are a joke. Apparently his idea of teaching is handing out a 10 question quiz to a group and letting 1 or 2 people do all the work. He throws some tricks in on the exam and his videos don't always match exam material. What he does isn't teaching.
I took finance with the real format so it was more difficult to learn the material without lectures. HIs lecture videos only touched the surface of the material. 75% of your grade is exams but he curves them by one question. No homework other than online quizzes. Professor Byrd seems like a great professor if we had a normal class every week.
Really nice guy, but like any REAL class youre basically teaching yourself. His exams are easy, theres 4 and all are out of 25 + 1 bonus question. However if you want to do well you need to practice a lot. The tests are pretty much whats on the practice tests and quizzes. Chegg and quizlet are your friends.
Pulled the A but I had to do really good on the exams since my group did not do good. Make sure you go to the help desk way before exams to skip the lines and get 1 on 1 time with the TA's. Do not buy his textbook or the note guide, huge ripoff just do the quizzes and find a quizlet for the vocab. The work is not hard as long as you go to help desk
Professor Byrd teaches a difficult class to non-finance majors, so you can chalk up some of the negative reviews to that. The content is difficult, but if you watch the videos and don't get behind, you won't have to struggle too hard for an A. The exams are the majority of your grade, so make to work the practice problems after watching a video.
Your grade is coming into the class 5 times and 4 exams and 4 quizzes. No assigned homework but if you want to pass you better make up your own homework. He provides a lot of unrequired practice material though so take advantage of it. His finance jokes are funny enough to keep you interested. I enrolled in another one of his courses, great guy!
Byrd is not a bad person, but he barely teach. He welcome you if you visited his office hours and have a great conversation , and if you are stuck in any of the materials he explains it word for word, but some the materials he covers in the lecture doest make sense comparing to his class activities , quizzes and exam, ALOT OF WORK for an A
He is a nice person , but he skip classes just for faculty meeting and sometimes he have 2 courses meeting on the same day and time, I would say that this UCF problem making he schedule time consuming. This is my second time taking this course and I found out the difficulty is a bit a less. but its just TOO MUCH WORK, comparing to Quant 2.
The sweetest person you could ever meet, he is so genuine and really wants you to succeed. He gives his exams in class unlike others who do it at the testing center. His homeworks are easy but he doesn't have due dates on a set day so make sure you keep up with the schedule. it is pointless to come to class other than the class before the exam
Nice guy, trys hard. Challenging material in the COBA REAL format. Tons of reading.
Super nice dude, was always so happy to share what he knows about finance and easy to follow along with in his lecture videos.
I had a funeral to attend and he wouldn't let me retake the exam because of certain covid regulations but I was able to retake an exam for another class. Tests are super short on time and you have to view questions one at a time and can't go back which claims is another regulation but my other class doesn't have that issue. Tests are new material.
Absolutely horrible! Tests dont match with quizzes or textbook or practice modules. Limited time on tests and some questions dont even make sense. Completely unorganized and lecture videos are sucky
Took this class during the 6-week summer session, and I have never been more lost and disgusted by a professor. His videos did not help at all, the exams were Impossible, and your grade is based on four exams and four quizzes. Screw up one exam, and you're doomed. He is by far the absolute worst professor I have taken at UCF. He just does not care.
This class was suppose to be in-person but because of COVID everything was online, including the exams. I never was able to finish the exams in time no matter how much I practiced. Almost impossible to do well on this new format of testing. The professor didn't go over enough examples, only the easy ones. Def recommend the optional note guide book.
This was the worst class that I have taken at UCF. Due to corona virus the entire class was moved online. Which made the class extremely test heavy and the only other assignment to balance out your grade is a quiz. 4 quizzes, 4 exams. You mess up on the test & you're screwed. The exam material is nothing like the examples he provides. DO NOT TAKE
The new format for this class is simply unmanageable. Tests must be taken in order and count for a tremendous part of your grade. Only reason I passed was because some guy from skoolers at FSU swooped in and gave us an awesome cram session before the final. Thanks, skoolers. No thanks, Byrd.
Took during COVID. Worked hard from missing exam 1, C exam 2, to A's last 2 exams. Got A's by skimming book, taking good notes of video lecture, making a comprehensive formula sheet, and DOING THE PRACTICE EXAMS. 5-10 exam questions come from there. Quizzes kinda help. Difficulty communicating w/ him or the TAs cause only through email or chat
Beware of this professor who sits behind a calm and kind face. He does not give an absolute crap in the world about his students. Very unsympathetic, unreceptive, and does not respond to emails. 4 exams, 4 quizzes, tons of lectures you MUST watch to pass. TAs served as much better professors than him. Save your $$$, pick someone else, or good luck!
May seem nice but WORST PROFESSOR EVER. DO NOT TAKE. avoid at all costs take someone else
There are only 4 exams and 4 quizzes so it is important to do well on all of these but the quiz attempts are unlimited and the exams are 25 questions with a bonus question. All material covered on exams are in the videos he posts as well as the practice quizzes and practice problems, it is very easy to do well in this class if you do those things.
You will be teaching yourself. My grade was in the high 80s and somehow that was a B not a B+? All you have are broad videos and the text to learn material. I had to watch YouTube to try to learn. Exams will be nearly impossible. Professor does not curve even though all tests have C- averages. Grades are based on exams (85%) and 15% quizzes.
Professor doesn't really care if you have something going on in your life and if you can't make an exam. He got over 100 emails of students complaining and still didn't do anything to change the format. He has a lot of students but NEVER responds to emails.
Great Professor. Very descriptive, and a very intelligent professor.
When it asks you to select 3 tags none of them apply. Respected, accessible outside of class, caring, inspirational, hilarious? All far from the truth. Doesn't respect his students doesn't care about any of us, never responds to emails. avoid at all costs
Byrd was always my favorite finance professor at UCF. Very down to earth and really cares about his students.
I emailed the class email and asked about tutoring. The TAs said go to TA hours but I needed more one on one consistent tutoring. They said they would forward it to Professor Byrd. Never heard from him. Im going to have to withdraw from the class. Also, what kind of a professor gives an exam right when classes start and on a UCF mandated holiday?
I was excited to continue my Business Minor at UCF with my final class in the minor and low and behold I receive a class with NO classes. Literally the only things in the classes were exams that happened every couple of weeks and he told us to read the book. That was it. Absolutely no teaching going on. Dont take him if you want to learn something.
He's the reason I became a finance major so if you have to take any finance classes take it with him! Very down to earth and he is really good at explaining concepts. Go though the lectures and notes before exams and you will be ok.
Does not do anything, at least during remote learning due to Covid-19. Has prerecorded lectures and was rude replying to the one email I had to send him. No assignment, just auto graded exams. He does not do anything to run the class. Several mistakes in pre-done lecture videos and notes are very frustrating when trying to teach yourself.
Hands down worst Professor I have ever had. Only grades you on 4 exams and 4 quizzes. Nearly impossible to get in touch with, but when you do he is very rude. Does not care for students. Only thing teaching you is yourself. His pre-recorded lectures are from 2018. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!
Professor Byrd is doing his part. We all know that Covid made education for Business majors rough as we have to teach ourselves the material. Its just 4 quizzes and 4 exams but he gives the practice exam questions that are very similar to what you will see on the exam itself. Study the material, follow his modules and you will get an A guaranteed.
The class is tough as it is entirely 4 exams and 4 quizzes, there is no intermediate assignments to keep you accountable for doing each weeks readings so be careful not to fall for having to cram the day before the exam. His readings and video lectures were amazingly up to date and covered it perfectly. put the work in and youll learn a lot.
I dont know what this class is like not during covid but it must be impossible. i cant imagine taking the tests not open book. there are only 4 test and 4 quizzes and the tests cover really random stuff from the book. a tutor called skoolers is the only reason i passed in the end. good luck.
Does a very poor job at actually explaining the material as you get further into the semester. Exams and are very similar to quizzes, but neither are anything like the example he shows in the lectures of any of the problems he provides. Enjoy the beginning of the course because it just starts to suck later on.
Give the class 100% effort in the beginning because it gets super hard at the end. Only have to read textbook for Exam 1, simply watching his lecture videos prepares you for Exams 2-4. Exam 3 is hardest so spend a lot of time practicing. Math isnt hard but takes TIME and the exams are super fast paced. Buy the note guide. Nice professor overall!
The class is fine as long as you know how to use financial calculator. One key advice would be doing and understanding every question in the practice quizzes even though they were not graded.
Professor Byrd is nice. The class is only made up of exam and quiz. There are 4 tests and 4 quizzes in the class. Make sure to watch his lecture videos, and do practice exam. His practice exams are key in passing the class. Exam 4 is cumulative. You get unlimited attempts for all the quizzes
very good professor
He is literally the Finance Jesus!! Make sure to take the class with him and no one else. Go out of your way for it, you will not find a better professor in the college of business.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Never answered any of my emails or gave me help in any way when I had questions. Super unprofessional and doesnt take his job seriously.
Byrd is a great professor who lectures very well and is easy to follow along and take notes with!
Professor Byrd is great. He's always focused on this students' success, and he even has a note guide you can purchase at the library so it's easier to study! However, he doesn't have graded homework, so you have to make sure you actually study. His lectures are easy to follow and he gives real world applications which helps me quite a lot.
This class is not to be taken post Covid if you want to be taught there are (4) exams you take in test lab (4) quizzes (4) in class assignments and practice quizzes that do not count, less than 20 assignments for this class, so its no area to mess up. You are only taught from old lectures on canvas. No help from TA or Byrd. Would not recommend
This class is somewhat difficult, but put in the time and if you have a knack or liking to finance this will actually be enjoyable. Work hard don't fall behind and check the weekly schedule at least 1x week. He is a good teacher with good understanding of finance and uses real world examples too.
Mr. Byrd is not the best teacher his material is not up to date and is all from 2017. Class is solely based on exams and quizzes. His lecture videos are of rare use he does not give full explanations sometimes on how he got to an answer. Also says to buy the textbook which is never used and serves no purpose for the class. Would not recommend.
Took him for Fall and it was by far one of the worst experiences Ive had to date. He solely grades off of 4 team quizzes, 4 homework, and 4 exams all weighted differently. The TAs are absolutely useless and have no idea whats going on, its very lecture heavy, youll feel confident in the material until you take the exam and its all different.
THIS CLASS IS HARD. anyone telling you otherwise is lying. There's so much freaking material and it's just a terrible experience. I'm not exaggerating when I say confusion and frustration are the biggest emotions i've felt while taking this class. would rather roll in the mud than take this again. good luck
Try your best to stay on track with the course calendar. Watch the video lectures, take notes and read the textbook, and do the practice exams over and over again. The textbook is optional but I recommend it because he mostly covers the math aspect of finance in the lectures, not so much the terminology. Make a study plan and you will surely pass!
by far the hardest class i've taken. He's a nice professor, but his lectures are all online and don't help. class sessions are just team quizzes. basically had to teach myself the class. 4 tests and 4 quizzes. about 6 in class assignments so make sure to do well on the tests. hard class, but doable if you have the ample time to devote to it.
Literally the WORST professor I've ever had. REAL format does not do well with him. His videos are no help with assignments nor exams. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING. Do yourself a favor and take another professor (i've heard White is great). Whatever you do. Don't take Byrd. He's nice but literally does not teach.
First two tests aren't bad, third is incredibly hard, as well as final. Terrible teacher that just puts up 3 year old videos for you to watch and gives you a team quiz in class. No effort on his part, and its easily noticed.
As opposed to some of the other students, I really like Professor Byrd. His lectures were very good and I liked that they were videos as you can review whenever you need to or speed them up, etc. The videos are super informational so you should definitely watch them. I never had to contact him but he seems very nice.
Class was supposed to be in-person, but he moved it to completely online. He posts short lectures (~ 1 hour total for each section) that are actually pretty helpful. However, his tests make up 80% of your grade and he barely provides any guidance on how / what to study, tests are not like homework. Difficult to get an A even if you work hard :/
Byrd is an alright professor I took him for Business Finance and now corporate finance. He made this whole semester online and is not a good online teacher. Not good lecture videos and does not have a clear review for tests and you do not know what to study. Class average on first two test 64 and 68.
His course is very incomplete. Sometimes you get video lectures, sometimes you get step-by-step instructions on how to solve problems and these are incomplete. The lecture will show you the easy basic problems, but when it comes to the quizzes or tests; you're on your own. He said that he was going to put formulas on the test and didn't.Frustrating
Second time taking Finance and I would suggest you take Prof. Whyte. This is the worst class I've taken at UCF. His videos are old. He never responds to emails. His test are super hard, due to the fact that he doesn't teach what's on them. Memorize the formulas because he gives you a list but they're never the same. Final 26/31 formulas were given.
I liked Byrd a lot for finance. You learn the material online via his videos, and in class you do a group quiz each week. Online quizzes have unlimited attempts and are very similar to the exam. Exams are 25 questions with 1 bonus, and he curves grades at the end. He is definitely an expert in finance and he is super friendly and approachable.
I've Taken this course a second time, and I suggest taking Professor Byrd over the other professor. 4 exams, and 4 quizzes, and application quizzes were the only part of your grade. Study the practice quizzes, exams, and LEARN THE CALCULATOR!!. Practice, and you should be okay. Overall, He's caring great professor who cares about the students.
Honestly, he was such a nice and helpful professor. He has good lecture videos that are very helpful and include good examples. However, the class was definitely hard. The only grades in the course were 4 quizzes and 4 tests, so make sure you study for those. Practice a lot especially the vocab and the math aspect of the class. Show up to class too
I found this class to be hard probably because I am not a Finance major and don't enjoy Finance. But as a professor he was very kind and I felt like he wanted everyone to pass and ask for help, unlike some professor's in the college of business who would get annoyed if you ask for help during the ALL sessions.
Overall, Dr. Byrd is a nice guy but his class is not the best overall. His lectures are from 2018 so around 4 years old now. The lack of assignments after each chapter makes understanding and applying the material very difficult. With so few grades in the class, the tests are what is gonna determine your grade. Pretty tough first finance class.
Dr.Byrd is a very kind, helpful, and nice professor. I enjoyed his video lectures and the good examples he provided. I found them helpful in studying for the exams. It is definitely a difficult class, but the professor truly cares about the students and wants them to succeed.
This class is basically only graded by exams. There are assignments in class and a quiz before every test but it's mostly your exam scores that make up your grade. Professor Byrd is incredibly friendly and always excited to help. You can tell he is really interested in what he teaches. Only negative comment is that the lecture videos are outdated.
I wish we could be graded on more things. Tests will eat up your entire grade. Having actual HW assignments will help students learn and give them a cushion to fall on if they are not good test takers. you will only be graded on: group work (15% of grade), TESTS (75% of grade), Quizzes (10% of grade) :(
6 REAL meets, 4 exams (cumulative final), 4 quizzes (one for each exam). The quizzes/practice exam problems are essential study material. Know how to solve all quiz probs AND prac. exam probs to be safe. Prof provides list on test concepts before every exam. 3rd exam hardest. Curves at end of course.
If you know how to do the practice problems and quiz problems the tests are easy. Just read the textbook to learn the terms.
Professor Byrd is the professor to take for Finance. You're graded only on exams and quizzes but he watching his videos and doing his practice quizzes and exams are more than enough to do good on the exams. He was graceful with a curve at the end because of the hurricanes we faced during the fall semester. The fin help desk is a must!
LEARN THE CALCULATOR. DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES. REPEAT!!!!! This class is hard but if you go into the test understanding the note guide/practice problems you'll do well. His videos are old (articles say 2018 and he'll call it a recent example) but they explain things well. Tests are 25 questions with 1 bonus question and he curved grades at the end.
Class is graded on 4 tests, 4 quizzes (unlimited tries) and 5 group quizzes in class (10 questions). I ended the class with a 72 and once he submitted grades he rounded me up to an 80 :) super nice man
This was my 2nd time taking FIN 3403, the first time I had a different professor. But Professor Byrd really cares about his students and how well they do in his class. Some people found the exams difficult, and they are, but if you go into the help desk and have the TA's help you, the tests were easy. Look for free Textbook online.
This was my second time taking this class and it definitely is a difficult class. Depending on your major, you may need a different grade than others in the class. That being said, your grade is heavily based on 4 tests (including the final). OH! MAKE SURE TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE CALCULATOR OR ELSE THIS CLASS WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE
