The course is ok but his teaching skills are horrible...After hes done talking you have so many questions...After you ask questions you have even more.
good guy
what a hottie! tests are tricky but if you study you'll be alright, he curves anyways and gives extra credit, you can't fail.
his tests are real hard
his tests are crazy hard, makes u feel like u will pass but then gives u a D, nice guy but bad teacher.........wish i never took the class
quite hott! really nice guy, but inexperienced teacher, you may think you're doing well in the class until you see the test results...
nice guy, but really hard. apply yourself and you wont fail, but you still may not like the grade. i wouldnt reccomend him unless you have a good understanding of economics before coming into the course
hottest man alive and good teacher. class is kinda hard you gotta read the book and study to get a good grade. but wow hes BEAUTIFUL =)
great professor! he gives you the topics before the test. just study and you get a good grade by the way he gives a curve.
If you study u will do well
Just study. Uses the whole class time to explain the chapters. So take notes.
He is so hot, he reminds me of a younger Robert Deniro, soooo hottt... he's an awesome Professor, just read the chapters because its all on the test. He reviews well too so pay attention.
Very easy...just pay attention and do your hw. His test are multiple choice, just make sure u review.
Great Guy! Explains everything! Take notes and read the chapter....I got a B+
OMG HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER 42 STUDENTS AT THE BEGINNING AND ENDED UP WITH ONLY 20 SOMETHING BECAUSE HE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR TALKS ABOUT NONSENSE AND HAS THE WORST TEACHING SKILLS EVER DOES NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING CLEARLY FRANKLY, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE MORON
Good Teacher... Cool and funny... also-VERY HOT! (not that anyone would take the class solely on that, but he's gorgeous!) He's an adjunct professor, so his way of teaching is not "the usual" his explanations of concepts are pretty easy to grasp-- finally! a teacher that makes us see how the class affects us!!
very simple prof to rate.not an easy class at all.still learn a lot if you pay attention, show up to class, and do the homework and u can pass.dont take unless u dont want to think hard.also a very nice and approachable guy.uses confusing but interesting concepts
Great teacher... I believe he is probbly my favorite teacher i had in st johns.... If you do the Homework you will be fine... helps if you ask for help
i like him...he's clear and fair, everything on the test is from lectures, take notes, read the chapters and do the hw you'll do fine
ECO is not my strong point and i only took it because i need it to graduate and i told him that the first day of classes. Canale is a very good professor who will go through easy stuff fast but if you ask him to he will dumb it down so that anyone can understand it. his tests are MC and really easy and i def suggest you take him
Im not going to say it was an easy class, but it will make it alot easier if you READ the text, everything on the tests are things he has discussed in class, u must work hard in the class pay attention take notes and STUDY, hes a great teacher only teacher i actually learned in this semester, but if ur looking for an easy A this is not the class!
wasnt the easiest class i attended but test are MC and are based on the lecture the test are straight out of the lecture and if you read the text you will be fine 4 Test all mc he knows his stuff
Honestly,he is not the greatest prof. I have to read everything out of my textbook to learn something, or to review something that on the test. His test are very manipulative and wordy, and this is coming from a person who studies like 2 weeks before.Try not to take this take, unless you really want to or have no other choice.(i had no other choice)
Not necessarily an easy professor, but a nice guy nonetheless. Gives a lot of homework (5-6 questions from the textbook basically every class) and some of the test questions are set-up and worded in tricky ways. But if you put some effort in, do the hw, and read the textbook you should be alright.
Just withdrew this class to avoid getting a grade that I definitely do not diserve. As a student athlete in season its impossible to keep up with this professor as he has no understanding for missing class due to traveling. Extensive homework to every class, so twice a week and trick questions on the tests. I would not recommend Professor Canale.
The class isn't 'easy' per se, but it helps if you actually read the text book. The guy really knows his stuff, and the ones who do poorly either don't show up for class, or don't ask for help when they need it. All in all, it was an alright class, I'd say.
One important thing is that he does not like late students. If you're late multiple times he will tell you to leave the class room. Everything on the tests he goes over in class. Attending class and doing the homework are the most important things in order to do well in this course. Also questions on things you're unsure of.
mmmmm. his tests are tough and his lessons are note based.
DON'T BE LATE, HE WILL KICK YOU OUT, a lot of txt book homework, questions are long and frustrating. Basically teach yourself by reading the txt book because his lessons don't reinforce what is in the txt. Nice guy! bought I feel like he is always rushing, not full time teacher, no office hours. Got him freshmen year and struggled to much work
He is actually one of the best professors I've had as a freshman. His tests are not hard if you do your work and listen to his lectures . He puts a lot of enthusiasm to his lecture and engages the class in a way where everyone in the class strives to learn the material and get a good grade. Class discussions are also interesting.
He is very understanding and easy to talk to. The class discussions are very interesting to watch, this guy knows how to talk. Textbook is definitely required as you will be assigned a lot of reading and questions. If you plan to miss class, I wouldn't recommend you to take him because each class focuses on important information you will need.
Macroeconomics isn't the easiest course to take. Canale is a great person to take for this course. Just don't be late and don't waste time by messing around. Efficiency is key.
Overall good
Professor is all over the place with his lectures. 3 tests and Hw each class period. Overall I would not recommend the class.
This was my 7:30 am class and honestly, I hated it. Tests are too manipulative, wordy, confusing. I would always think that I passed with at least an 80, just to find out that I barely passed. Only grades hw and the tests. Not many tests btw, maybe only 3.
Took him for both Eco1001 and Eco1002. He treats you like an adult. He expects you to do the readings and homework. Whatever you do not understand he will try to help you cover in class. He might seem intimidating, but try your best to ask for help. He's really understanding and cares about you learning.
He is extremely vague and does not know how to properly answer questions.
Prof Canale is a role model. He is up to date each and every day, he knows what hes talking about, and he inspires you to be at your best. Final grade is based on 4 tests and hw. Come to class, take notes on his lectures and you will be fine. Study for the tests, otherwise you will fail. I think he's the best prof. St John's has to offer!
His tests are based on what we talk about in class. So you must show up to every class, or else you won't know what's going on. If you feel like you're having trouble in the class, or failed a test, go talk to him because he will help you! He does seem intimidating but he's there for you. Make sure you show up and pay attention and STUDY.
EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. He lectures the entire class period, doesn't answer questions correctly and his exams are the most difficult things i have ever seen. The questions are nothing like the ones we see in class or in our homework. Literally not helpful at all
Great Professor. He brings the material, which can be kind of tough, down to your level. Homework is worth 5% of the grade so you might as well do it. 4 tests and he prepares you for each one. Highly recommended. He will help you out when he sees that you have good attendance and do the homework.
If you can dont take this class, his tests are hard and expect hw every class. By the way you cant be late even a minute so I will see other options first.
His lectures are long but focus on the key points of every chapter. You have to then read the chapter yourself to cover all the material. The tests can be tricky if you do not study for them. Make sure you study hard for his exams because your grade is basically made up of exams. He also curves your grade if you come to class and do the homework.
Professor Canale is easily the best professor I've taken at St. John's. I've never had a professor that taught so well to the point that I still remember what he taught to this day. While his tests are difficult, they aren't as hard as many make them out to be. Study and pay attention! Do your homework and write down good notes and you'll get an A.
Professor was helpful if you needed a better understanding of the curriculum. Must attend class and pay attention. Study a lot for the exams and do the homework assigned and you should be fine.
I never once took economics before and I can say out of the whole semester economics was my favorite class. As long as you show up to every single class, do the homework, and study for the 4 tests that you'll get out of the whole semester then you can easily get an A. All exams are multiple choice, but you must study and attend class! ClassMUST!
he's been the best econ professor I've taken. I took Micro with him and he really cares about his students. The homework was every class, but wasn't that long and gave you credit for trying. tests were kinda hard, but if you try in the class and take notes and study he will see that, I left with an A in the class. People on FB or who slept Failed.
This prof is really hard. You are given three tests worth 95% of your grade. The first test is 10% , second is 20%... All of the tests are multiple choice. Homework is 5% of your grade. He doesn't have an office on campus but replies to emails quickly. He doesn't believe in extra credit. Look for a different prof is tests are your forte.
worst professor ever test are everything in his class and he makes 3 different copies so you can't cheat!!! real loser!! don't take
I am horrible at Economics and Canale didnt make it any easier. I slowly did worse on each test and ended up with a C. Im a senior and I have NEVER gotten below an A- in any class. He doesnt explain things well and he doesnt give much room to improve your grade. I do not recommend him and if you can take someone else, DO IT.
Really tough teacher. Didn't make it easy for me since I had no idea what I was doing and was taught a different style. I emailed him and asked him questions but nothing.
Attendance isnt mandatory but if you miss class, youll miss a lot of information that you need. He goes over everything you need to know for his tests, nothing is on his tests that he doesnt go over. Gives lot of homework but is only 5%. Great professor and really cares for his students. If you show up and pay attention, you should get an A.
good when it comes to his lectures, he can explain the topics very well but his test are extremely hard and they're worth a lot of your grade. The first test is worth like 10% and it slowly starts to get higher, the final exam is worth 35%. If you don't pass the test you're basically screwed bc the homework is only worth 5% of your grade. no EC
He's a good teacher. He does a good job explaining the material. My problem with him is that he teaches in a old fashioned manner. He uses no technology, just a whiteboard powerpoint would help more). Your grade is made up 4 tests and homework. This is a hard course and having your grade made up of mostly tests is not good. Would not take.
Great lecturer. He goes over everything in class that'll be on tests thoroughly. Won't penalize you for skipping class, but you'll miss a lot of info/explanation. Grades based on 4 tests, each worth more % of your grade. No tech in class though. If you do go to class, DON'T BE LATE OR ON YOUR PHONE, he WILL call you out in the middle of class.
Great professor and great lecturer. He does a great job with explaining the material and makes it very clear, but make sure you read the textbook so you can understand the full concept. The class is made up of 4 tests, and hw assignments. He doesn't allow any technology in class. I really enjoyed the class and I learned A LOT
I felt like I could run the federal reserve after this class. he was a great lecturer, and was really passionate about the information he taught. class is made up of 4 tests. you really have to take good notes and read the textbook to do well. if you skip one class you most likely will not do good on the tests, show up and pay attention. Great prof
Great professor! Really helps you understand the material Traditional teaching style, lectures on a chalkboard w/ 4 tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but his tests are based mostly on the lecture Tests are fair and multiple choice but worth a lot so make sure you're a good test taker. You need the textbook for hw but hw is only worth 5%
Lecture heavy, you have to take notes as he speaks, only writes notes on chalk board for vocab and graphs. Attendance mandatory, when your absent he takes note & uses it in his class statistics showing why your grades low. One person at a time bathroom policy. Does not give back exam for review only scantron, make appointment to review test.
Great at teaching the material,Clear grading system. 1st exam 10% of grade, 2nd 20%, 3rd 30%, 4th 35% of grade. Threatened to take away bathroom privileges because 2 students got up to use the bathroom at the same time. Do all HW for a 5% increase on final grade. Has attitude against those who are late, absent or don't do HW, reprimands the class.
this class makes me believe in hell on earth :)
I took this Professor because I didnt have many options to pick from and I needed the credit. I was one of the first Covid outbreaks in the school and even when I came back after two weeks, he gave me an exam without me understanding any of the material. He made it difficult from the beginning and 95% of his grading is from exams. Stay away
I had to drop out of his class, he doesnt answer questions and kinda speeds through lectures.
Let me help you out BIG TIME and say please do not take this class. Homework is literally just busy work and he moves way too fast too even learn anything, if you care about your GPA stay away.
Professor Canale absolutely does not care about how much effort you put in nor how much you show you care. It all comes down to everything has to be his way and laughs at u if you try to find help elsewhere. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
These reviews baffle me, he is an amazing professor! He truly wants you to succeed and has a passion for what he teaches, but if you don't put in the effort, he won't either. His lectures are incredible and help you retain so much information, my whole class was always engaged. My favorite professor hands down. TAKE HIM!
He. SUCKS. literally got put into his class, gave full effort but to this point in the semester, i've honestly given up. he's rude, entitled, he teaches beyond fast. and HE'S OLD SCHOOL. no technology at all, whatsoever. if you're even a minute late, he'll be sassy and give you an attitude look. AVOIDDD.
Great professor! I'm a difficult student to teach, but I've never learned more in a class than I have in his. His lectures are amazing and he'll answer any questions you have along the way. Very intelligent, he was happy to answer any outside questions I had about economics or finance. Definitely would take again!!
Tests make up more than 90% of the grade. If you fail them, you are done for. There's no retake, no curve, no extra credit. I like his teaching style, but he makes a big fuss if you're late. If I was 5 minutes late, I would rather just NOT show up to class than deal with his rambling. "Folks... I can't have you doing this" "ITS A DISTRACTION."
Prof. Canale is a sharp educator who is especially good at boiling a topic down to as simple as it can be. That being said, taking notes in his class is especially important because test grades will make up more than 90% of your grade. SHOW UP ON TIME - he will grill you if you're late.
Accepts late homework, You need to pass all tests in order to pass the class because he doesn't grade anything else. He's very strict on your attendance, if you're going to take this class be on time! He embarrasses anyone who's late. No electronics at all. Sit in the front row. and make sure you take good notes. Homework every night.
He is a no BS prof and he is very straightforward. He assigns a lot of HW and it's based on and in the textbook. HW due every class day. Lectures aren't bad, he's good at talking but he will ramble on if someone is a minute late.
Worst professor I've ever had. No respect for students, 0 understanding if you need to miss a class/exam. Will openly make an example of you if you do bad on an exam or show up even 2 minutes late. Makes you ask PERMISSION TO USE THE BATHROOM, loves humiliating students and offers ABSOLUTELY NO additional help. take a different professor if you can
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, absolute power trip professor, rude and insulting, does everything in his power to humiliate students, idk how he has any positive reviews on here
Very tough class to pass. Can't just pass by doing homework's, most of the grade is given by the 4 tests given each month. Each tests is worth a higher percentage, and questions on the test aren't just based off lectures. Some of the things on tests are there to trick you and have never been mentioned in class. Don't take this professor.
was such a rude professor got him randomly wish I switched out
Dr.Canale is a very respectable and fair professor. He is enthusiastic about teaching his class and genuinely wants you to understand the material. If you pay attention and do your work, you're going to be fine. Most of the bad reviews about him are written by lazy students who don't care.
90% of total grades are based on 4 exams. Extremely strict on attendance and being on time. i.e. Homework is due at the beginning of the class; if you're late, the homework is late. No electronics are allowed during lectures, so take notes on paper. Talk about being on time to not waste time; but takes time out of lectures to talk about it.
If you're late often, you're not passing. Heavy reliance on 4 tests. Unfriendly learning environment. Gets distracted easily and makes it the student's problem. Favors punishments over incentives.
Creates an extremely negative class environment. Claims his tests are all from the notes but that just simply isn't the case. He takes 5 points off your test grade if you arrive to class even a minute late. Tons of hard homework given every class. Also doesn't allow students to use the bathroom unless you raise your hand.
HE EATS SO MUCH FRANKS. WORST PROFESSOR EVERRRR. Like humiliating students and making an example out of them.He likes to talk about distractions and make a big deal out of them only making it more of a distraction.
If you want to feel like you're back in high school, take him. He constantly talks about how "this is college" but will treat you like a high schooler. Does not let you leave the classroom for bathroom or water unless you raise your hand. Homework is a lot and does not help your grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
No electronics within this course and DO NOT be late. 4 tests make up your grade each one escalating in how much it counts for the final grade. Homework is a lot and does not FULLY help you. Recommended for economics majors. However, just the general credit, I recommend taking someone else. The workload and class atmosphere is just not worth it.
Its been a few years since I had Professor Canale, but the best way to describe him is a good but old-fashioned Professor. There is no electronics in his class, everything is hand-written, including weekly homeworks from the textbook. He has a huge problem if ur late too. This isn't a class for an easy A, but if you listen you can learn & do decent
Taught in a way that made it easy to understand the material. Important to attend class/take notes or you'll fall behind. Expectations were reasonable and respectable; don't be late or on your phone. Overall great professor would take his class again!
He gives an unhealthy amount of hw that half the time doesn't even relate to the tests. DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR PHONE. The class is always dead, dry even. DO NOT COME IN LATE. If you're late, don't come to class or prepare to get humiliated. His tests are 90% of your grade, and the other 10% is the hw.
Overall, he's not bad at giving his lectures. He reads off the textbook verbatim, but explains it in a way that's a lot simpler than it is. Although... he doesn't cover enough topics, and on some tests, there were topics that weren't covered, and considering your grade relies on tests, you better be good at reading the textbook.
This professor wasn't bad at teaching but HUMILIATED you if you were late. If you genuinely crashed and broke your leg his first concern would be on why you were late. Literally just rude and the class is boring and don't take it at 7:30 in the morning because you will genuinely rethink about even having an education. Homework's were long.
