You will learn a ton about history in a way that makes it all make sense. For midterm/final, you just have to regurgitate his lectures.
Great teacher. You have quizes every week on the readings, but I still enjoyed the class. Yeah, and the final and midterms are very straight forward-just know his lectures.

Great professor!!!! You will learn a lot and as long as you attend his lectures, you will do well. One of the best history classes that I have taken.
A great teacher. You learn a lot taking this class and his lectures are extremely interesting. Best History class I ever took.
He gets into his lecture which makes it fun and interesting. A quiz every week on the book (easy if you read). Tests are not hard. He gives you the easy questions before the test so you have time to prepare for them. Take him!!
This is one of the best professors I had at Loyola, very interesting, straight to the point , and also very very very handsome!!!!
HOt, very hot, interesting, and entertaining :)

awesome teacher. it's really easy to get an A, just know your notes from lecture! yeah, he's pretty hot too, in the older dignified man kind of way.
He is by far the best teacher i have had at Loyola. His lectures are very good, not boring, and everything he says in lecture is on the tests. He is fun in class, and if you study his lectures you will do good.
His lectures are well given, easy information and very few pages assigned for reading. Fun lectures, easy tests and if you passed your 7th grade history class, you'll do fine. All you have to do is read and write down notes and wait for your A.
He is a very easy teacher and helps you in any way he can. Normally I hate history but his lectures are fun and to the point; no BS'ing around what is important. He also tells you exactly what to write in your notes.
Best history class I have ever had. If I could I would take him for the rest of my history classes.
i will admit this teacher is pretty hot for an old guy, but the man is a very tough grader...his tests are all essay but u have to put even the little insignificant facts down, and if u miss a couple u will get a C.
He's a great teacher. I feel like i live in time of the topics, which he presents in classes
If you smoke, make sure he knows it. he tends to take a liking to the class smoker. Very nice Guy, Awesome Lectures, tests are easy if you take notes, and no papers or corney projects.
he is a great teacher, knows his stuff, but a hard grader. if ur into history defanitely take him, u will love him. no papers or anything, so based heavily on essay tests, but he gives out the essays before so u know what ur gettin into.
great lecturer, very hard grader
One of the best lecturers ever! Grades hard on writing, but he's very approachable for help. Kinda good looking too.
BEST professor I've had at LUC.No papers, weekly quizzes on readings(easy 10pts),but can grade a little hard on exams.2 midterms & final..dont be scared though, you get the questions before.DO make sure your notes are HIS words,so you can do good in exams.
although he is a tough grader, his lectures are excellent. it's definitely a class worth taking, even if you do end up with less than an A.
tough grader but fabulous lectures! Make sure you take good notes on lectures because he looks for tiny details on the exams
Great lectures, he's a smart guy and you'll learn. His tests are messed up though. You can know everything and get a B on his tests. He grades hard, very hard and his TA grades harder. I would stay away if u want an A. plays favorties, too.
He is a great teacher and knows what he is talking about. If you dislike history, much like I do, it is a challenging course. Cannot miss ANY lectures because his exams are based solely on them! Very hard grader but an overall good teacher.
What a little prat. He assumes that all freshmen are stupid, and he is far from clear. One of the worst classes I ever took at Loyola.
Very full of himself. Winks way to much. Thinks we are all history majors. Grades like were graduate students. If it wasn't for his T.A. we would all be failing his class. Not practical in expectations, especially freshman.
Mr. cardoza cracks me up and he knows what he's talking about. His exams can be really hard for those who don't come to class.
Funny guy, interesting class, lots of notes though. He's cool though.
He is a very good teacher. All I can say is memorization. The exams are essays which are tailored exactly to the class notes which average 3 pages per lecture. He gives the exam questions before the test. Very good lecturer and a muscular, handsome man.
Cardoza is a stickler for grammar and grades papers with extreme prejudice. His lectures are informative and well organized and do require attendance because he even gets agitated with latecomers.
A terrible teacher who is more interested in his looks than his subject. If your good looking woman, just flirt and you will get a good grade. His Gucci-Marxism is a joke. He is a sort of Che wanna-be with a tan and monogramed cuffs. Plus he is boring.
I hate his class and Cardoza as a professor. Do not take his class!!!
Great professor, knows his history like none other and is extremely helpful if u just ask. Only 3 exams (Midterm 1&2,Final) and weekly quizzes which aren't hard at all if u read the material. His exams are harder and based strictly off lecture which is WAY better than reading the book.GREAT TEACHER!
He isn't too bad. His exams are based on his lectures and there are a lot of notes. Exams aren't very hard;all you have to do is memorization, but the essays for the exams are extremely long, you have to write fast.
very good teacher. you will actually learn a lot in his class. No papers, so your grade is based on three tests, including hte final which is 40% of your grade. Test is entirely based on the notes from class and there are a lot. Not that hard, but he grades very tough,(bell curve)
Dr. Cardoza is a really great prof--he really knows his stuff. He makes the lectures interesting and funny. He also lets students participate in class---speak up and you will get on his good side. Exams are easy and quizzes are very simple!
I really like Dr. Cardoza. You have to go to every class to get the notes. 3 tests and a quiz every week on the readings. His lectures are intresting, he gets very passionate about it. Great prof to take for 102.
You can tell that Dr. Cardoza really enjoys his job, and LOVES history. Attendance is pretty much mandatory, but his lectures are engaging enough to keep your interest. Overall, he's a pretty sweet guy and very intelligent.
he is a great professor and knows what he's talking about. you can tell that he's passionate about history and it makes his lectures interesting. you have to go to class, the tests are based off of lecture. there are quizes every week. if you go to class and read a very little bit, you'll be fine.
Yeah, he really likes... himself. The classes are interesting enough to sit through, but neither impressively researched or incredibly informative. A decent high school history class will get you through with minimal work. Showing up recommended because there are weekly quizes.
He just reads form his notes and likes to listen to himself. Not much intelectualism here. But it is a good high school review.
This Professor is fantastic. His lectures are clear and consise but he is a difficult grader and assigns a lot of reading. I would only recommend this class to history majors and persons interested in the subject. He is a major stickler on writing and participation. Overall he is a fantastic Prof.
Dr. Cardoza tells you he wants you to learn how to think, but he means, "Regurgitate what professionals have said about a book in a review." His lectures are interesting, but he's condescending and his grades on papers are less about arguments and more about passive sentences. LUC: let in less dummies and let Cardoza teach history, not grammar.
great teacher. great guy. he grades on a curve. very interesting class to go to. no attendence taken but u gotta go, the tests are on lecture, the book readings are on quizes. over all take it.
I really liked Cardoza unlike some. I thought his lectures were interesting & fun. He does like people to talk in class. He likes assertive people from either sex. Don't listen to the whole being a flirty attractive girl. I don't flirt & I'm not attractive and I did ok. He grades hard. Take GOOD notes for the test and you'll get at least a B+.
Dr Cardoza is an amazing prof. You have to work to get an A, but its well worth it...He doesnt take attendance but there is no way to get an A in the class without attending because the tests are based totally off lectures. He makes a boring core class bareable...
Dr. Cardoza is a good professor. Class was enjoyable, which is hard to find in a history class. It is HARD though. Take amazing notes, but don't spit them back out for the exams. He expects a lot. You must analyze everything. Be specific. You can survive if you study your life away.
Very good professor who could keep you awake in class. You have to take very specific notes, and his essay tests are quite alright if you study. He gives you the essay questions ahead of time, so you know what to study. Keep up with the readings for weekly quizzes and attend class--He does surprise attendance check-ups. Do all that, and you pass.
WOW! What an amazing teacher. He is not only the most inteligent professors out of my entire college career, but he is also really handsome. This was my first history class since highschool, and it turned out to be extremely difficult, however, he made this class so interesting that I fell in love with history and wanted to take more classes.
I am a History major, becasue of him I never wanted to take another History class for as long as I live. I asked questions about the final and all he could say was... the answers are in your notes. An all around mean guy. Learn your notes to the point of knowing them by heart, and even then you will only get a B.
Great teacher who knows his lectures almost by heart (Also probably the best lecturer that I've seen yet), you HAVE TO show up to class to get the lecture notes, or you will fail. Otherwise the test are pretty easy, he gives you all of the possible essay questions well in advance of the test and all you have to do is prepare and remember four essay
By far one of the best professors at Loyola. His class may be a little difficult for some, but as long as you attend class and take decent notes you'll do well. I highly recommend this teacher/class for anyone interested in history (especially history majors/minors)
If you can regurgitate information well, this is the professor for you. Basically he talks and you write and what he says will be on the exam. There are reading quizzes as well, the reading is always really long and boring. But he is a great professor!!

He is a great history teacher. His exams are based on his lectures, so you should come to class even though he does not take attendence. He gives you the exam questions ahead of time too so you cannot fail unless you do not come to lecture. He's a very nice teacher!
he was a very well-spoken professor. he made his expectations very clear from the get go. he is a fair grader and intriguing lecturer. you do have to go to class and take copious notes (i suggest a laptop) but in the end it will pay off. weekly quizzes over reading worth ten points. three tests all essays. but he gives you the questions before.
He is a good teacher. You must go to his class, though. The midterms (there are two) and his final are word for word out of his lecture. Write as much stuff that he says down and memorize that and you should be fine. There is a quiz every week and this stuff from the readings. The man thinks he's amazing and is a bit on the condescending side.
Straight forward...enjoyed him. Would take again. Awesome lecturer!! Atendence not mandatory, but you need to go to pass.
his exams are essay exams and you basically have to regurgitate the lectures back word for word in detail. he is nice and funny and getting an A is possible, but not easy.
Dr. Cardoza is a really good professor. He is extremely intelligent in his field. The class is rather difficult though. However, from the beginning he lays everything out for you. His tests are all essays, which you must memorize from the lecture. His quizzes are from the reading, which he doesn't go over at all and they are pretty difficult.
He is a great lecturer. The class is interesting and he is very clear. His tests are hard. Provide VERY detailed answers! Write every word he has said in class. He is a little more reasonable on papers, but he isn't kidding when he says he cares about the clarity of the writing more than the context. The class focuses on Europe.
Great Professor, class was interesting. All lectures though, make sure you go to class and write down as much as you can. There are two midterms and a final all come from the lectures... gives the essay questions ahead of time. Quizzes once a week over the reading..
I don't think he's the best prof in the world. Lectures are interesting, tests not so bad, but he is a ridiculous grader, especially on the paper.
TAKE VERY GOOD DETAILED NOTES BECAUSE IF U CAN JUST REPEAT WHAT HE SAYS IN LECTURES FOR THE MIDTERM THEN U'VE ALREADY EARNED 90% OF YOUR FINAL GRADE. U WILL FAIL MISERABLY IF U TRY TO WRITE ESSAYS BASED SOLELY ON INFO FROM THE BOOK BECAUSE HIS LECTURES DO NOT ADDRESS THE SAME CONCEPTS AS THE BOOK BUT U MUST READ BECAUSE OF WEEKLY QUIZZES. FAB PROF!
Really knowledgeable about the material, passionate about teaching and lectures are really good, but hes a ridiculous grader, its hard to get an A if you don't go in for office hours. I went to almost every lecture and took notes on EVERYTHING, regurgitated it but still got a C and never knew why
i failed the first test out of 3. i focused on more on book than what was said in class. he told me to study ONLY from notes(litearlly..you memorize lectures point by point)..and that hell grade "based on improvement". well, i busted my ass and got A's on both remaining tests. small quizes inbetween. helpful guy, i actually enjoyed history!
He looks like Yanni... enough said... He made a freshman class seem like it was a graduate course... half the class dropped. I have no IDEA why everyone here says he is a great prof. dont you dare listen to them... Take me word for it.
VERY good teacher. Keeps his lectures interesting for what would be a boring class. Best Professor I have this semester. Just go to class, take detailed notes, and memorize them (almost word-for-word) for his midterms/final and read the books and you'll have an A. By far my favorite class and I'm not even that interested in History.
He is one of the best lecturers I have had so far at loyola. He holds your attention well. Hist 102 is a very conceptual course. You can't really miss a class because the tests are ALL ABOUT NOTES FROM LECTURES! Quizzes are pretty hard so make sure to read. If you are interested in History take this class.
Mr. Cardoza is a great teacher! His lectures are very interesting, just come to class and take good set of notes, there are 3 tests and every week a quiz over the reading ( 2 written q's and 8 multiple choice) On tests 5 questions and you get to choose 2. Have to take him!
HE IS AMAZING! I loved this class. His lectures are amazing, interesting and he helps students. Though there were some hard tests, that is to be expected at a 300 level class. I would take his classes no matter what
Cardoza is a great, great teacher with a real passion for history. He really knows his stuff, and wants you to too. His lectures are clear and to the point every time, and he tells you exactly what he expects on his tests (two essays over the lecture). Reading quizzes can be tedious, as the info is rarely covered in class or on tests. TAKE HIM!
hardest history class ever. if you are lazy and want an easy A, DO NOT TAKE.
20th ce European History from 1900-1045 was an very interesting. He focuses mainly on the politics, economics, and cultures of Western Europe. He is an amazing lecturer and usually lets class out early. Only 2 exams and 1 book review. Good class to take if you need a 300 level European History course.
He is a great teacher and he is very helpful. His tests are very hard. For a 100 level class I found his grading to be way too critical. If you have a good memory take the class. I'd personally never take him again only due to his critical grading. And his quizzes are pointless.
This class was SO HARD! Cardoza is VERY intelligent but this class was crazy. We took endless amounts of notes each class which we then had to MEMORIZE for 2 midterms and the final. Weekly quizzes were really tough as well. You NEED to read over the long weekly readings REALLY well and pay attention in class. NOT FOR SLACKERS!
Great prof. GO TO CLASS...his lectures are interesting and contain all of the answers to the midterm and final. One book review and it is easy if you follow all of his writing guides!
Took his European History class in 2002, and it was one of my top 3 fave classes (and I was a business major!). VERY interesting class - even if you're not so interested in the subject. Plus he was a VERY beautiful start to my Tuesdays and Thursdays ;) Sometimes during lectures, he would throw in some Italian or French just to keep you listening.
Dont believe the comments below. It is not that bad, you HAVE to study tho unless you kno history. He gives you the essay questions to the exams b4 hand! all you have to do is prepare them& write them on the exam. Need to do the readings they aren't bad at all.B prepared to take notes b/c they r where u get answers to exams.Great Teacher.worth taking
Really did not enjoy his class. Just took his Western Ideas course and it was really disappointing. He has a quiz every week based on readings and 2 tests and a final. The tests are based solely on lecture so you need to basically write down everything he said in class on the test. I found him to grade unfairly. Avoid taking him if you can
Cardoza is a great professor and definitely knows what he is talking about.Midterm and final based on notes from class so attendance is important.Pretty easy class overall.
I would NEVER recommend anyone to take this class because he grades so unfairly. His tests are ALL essay and you literally have to write down everyting he says and articulate that back on the midterms and final. After working hard you will not get an A, because he will decide to ake off points. Weekly quizzes are a pain too, dont take him!!
he's fantastic. he keeps lectures interesting, really knows what he's talking about, and he's funny. yes you have to take a lot of notes but he gives you the exam questions in advance and if you study & memorize beforehand you can get a B at least. pay attention go to class and know your stuff before the exam you'll get a dec grade. irecommend him!
Difficult class, but manageable. All his tests are essay, which include four choices two sections. You have to complete 2 essays. He definitely knows his stuff and occasionally throws in a humorous joke. Worth taking if you like history.
i am not good at history in general but...wow...this class killed me. he is extremally difficult and made me feel stupid when giving out hard quizzes that were "easy". i worked like crazy for this class and saw no progress. i now hate history even more
Pretty hard tests and quizzes. You will study for hours and still will not get a grade that you deserve. Grades unfairly. Takes off points for things you didn't put on the paper that he said in class. You will not have enough time to write down all you know (if you studied well) to satisfy him. Very interesting lectures though. Very smart professor
I don't recommend him if you aren't good at history. He outlines everything for you and gives you the exam questions in advance. His exams are extremely detailed though and you have to line everything up perfectly or he does take off points. I loved this class but history is one of my strong points. Don't take him if you have trouble with history.
He really knows what he's talking about, but man this class is hard. Midterms and final are from lecture, and he will take off points if you are missing ANYTHING he says. Studied for days and received Bs on the midterms because I ran out of time and didn't have everything. Great if you love history, not so great if youre taking the class for core
This is one of the most interesting and engaging professors I've ever had. I was actually excited to come to class to hear what he had to say and to see his eccentric personality/clothing. His tests are HARD, but they are rewarding because you have to know all of the notes. I would strongly recommend him if you enjoy history. I worked HARD for my A
do not take Professor Cardoza in my opinion the man is very difficult, he grades unfairly and has a very big ego. I would not recommend to take his class there are no visuals, no class discussions,no group work, no film to correlate with subject matter. It is simply as dry as a desert in his classroom. If you need help in class forget about it!!
I got a very good grade, but he is incredibly arrogant man who does not treat students with respect.
HE GIVES THE TEST QUESTIONS WHICH WITH MOST OTHER PROFESSORS WOULD BE NICE. HE WANTS YOU TO KNOW EVERY FACT EVER GIVEN IN THE CLASS. EVEN THEN, YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO GET AN A. REALLY COOL CLASS IF YOU DONT NEED TO GET AN A. HE IS REALLY SMART....JUST A TOUGH GRADER
Awesome guy! Great prof! Unfortunately, he's a 'no mercy' grader. 100% objective! STUDY HARD for his tests! Write well!
Love him! Definitely a tough grader, but very interesting and easy to follow. Super nice, and very good looking (: He even gives the mid-term questions beforehand! That being said, he expects the product to be even better because of this, but if you stay on task, take good notes (which are outlined!!!) and study, you'll do fine.
He is a hard grader, and you do have to work hard for an A or B. That being said, he's very interesting to listen to, and I'm actually engaged in class despite it being completely lecture based. Take him! Despite being hard, he's very interesting!!!!!!
Received an A in class, and I thought it was unbelievably easy to achieve. Yet when you teach a lecture-based class in which you tell students exactly what to write down for each exam, I would think that it would be expected for everyone to get an A. The easiness and lack of expectations will put anyone not already in a comatose state into one.
Great professor! He makes lectures interesting and engaging. I have no real interest in history, but I for once don't find myself falling asleep in class. What he talks about in class in useful for the midterms, and assigned readings are helpful for the quizzes. He's got a lot of energy and definetly loves and knows what he's teaching.
Prof. Cardoza is a passionate teacher and really knows and loves history. However, the class material i kinda all over the place. Quizzes deal with what is in the books, and test (essays) are to be written mainly on lecture notes. So don't ditch and read. Quiz every thurs. It's hard, but try and keep up and you may be okay. Hard grader too :/
This class is pretty easy. Quizzes are every week and as long as you read you'll be fine. Tests are two essays based on six prompts he gives beforehand. He expects you to base your essay on the lectures. He also grades on a scale so its pretty easy to do well. The only thing i disliked was he came off as very arrogant.
I really liked this class. He makes it really interesting. Attendance is mandatory because tests are based completely on lectures. Quizzes every week from the reading. It's not the easiest class but it's interesting. We usually get out 15 min early. I'd recommend taking him.
In a word, dull. He lectures based on an outline that he writes on the board at the beginning of class. He doesn't show any images-no art, material culture, no discussion, he just talks. He wants you to regurgitate his lectures word for the word on the test, and grades you down if you stray at all from his outline
I LOVE CARDOZA. I'm not interested in history whatsoever but I found his lectures rather interesting. quizzes every thursday on the book. exams are essays and the questions are given to you beforehand. he's a tough grader so you have to write down literally everything he says but again, love him.
Cardoza is incredibly intelligent, and knows a ton about history. He can be a little arrogant, but he's also funny and helpful. The only issue is that he doesn't care much about the texts, but you still have to do Honors exams and essays on them, which is difficult.
Cardoza is extrmely smart and interesting, but his class is hard. I worked so hard and still received a B in the class. The midterms and the final are straightforwawrd but he grades really tough.
Cardoza knows a lot about European History. Definitely good at lecturing but make sure to take notes and attend class. Fun and interesting guy! Glad I took him for Honors, could've been way worse
Cardoza's lectures were very straight forward but you have to write down everything he says. Class is difficult, I tried very hard and only came out with a B+, final is very difficult, you have to know his lectures inside and out. If you are good at memorizing then this class is good for you. Tests are essay format.
Okay, I got an A in his class, but you have to literally write down word for word what he says, which is next to impossible. I mean literally every word he says he expects on the exams. It's like a point or two off for every sentence you miss. I had carpal tunnel after class everyday.BRING A LAPTOP!!! all tests from lecture notes; quizzes from book
Terrible professor! VERY TOUGH grader. Grades subjectively. Quizzes are based off the book , tests based on lecture. Quizzes every Thursday and 3 exams. For exams he expects you to argue his lectures word for word. He is quite arrogant. Do not take him for core! His class will drive you mad. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I had never done an essay test before, and he was so helpful every time I did poorly. He was willing to set out time to make sure that I knew what he wanted, and he even let me email him my outlines for the final so he could make sure that I had the right information that he wanted.
He is a fantastic teacher. Very clear in his lectures and on what he expects on midterms. His lectures are literally outlines so if you take good notes youll do fine. He quizzes weekly quizzes on readings but theyre fairly simple. I hate history but I loved this class.
If you want to hear amazing lectures but don't care about your grade, cardoza is great. His lectures are super interesting but he's the toughest grader ever. He takes off for the smallest of things (handwriting, spelling, word choice), it's impossible to get an A and getting a B is extremely difficult. Wouldn't recommend because of the hard essays.
I took his History 101 class and had to drop. I failed the first mid term and I cant remember the last time I got less than a C in my life. I was so shocked. He is a tough grader and wants specific details in tests. 3 tests and some quizzes make up your grade! I rather take an online course this summer than suffer the rest of the semester with him
Cardoza gives the best lectures with a ton of information. There's quizzes once a week but as long as you do the reading you'll do good. Three exams during the course where you basically just repeat back what he said in lecture in essay format. Definitely passionate about his field. I learned a ton in this class.
Cardoza's the best professor I've taken at Loyola so far! He's an eloquent speaker and gives incredibly detailed lectures. He does expect a lot from his students, but a good grade is still doable. Very helpful at his office hours. Reading quizzes every week, two midterms and the final. Tests are based exclusively on the lectures. Very cool guy!
Lectures can be very interesting but you get too worried about getting everything down because they are basically outlines to the midterm questions. Usually a lot of reading that you get quizzed on. TOUGH GRADER looks for very specific details . He's moderately pretentious. Take if you want good lectures; not an easy A or B.
I'm not a history major but I found Cardoza's lectures very interesting and engaging. Quizzes every thursday based solely off the book, 2 midterms and a final (essay exams) based solely on the lectures. Exams are tricky because you have to memorize his lectures verbatim and spit them back out in essay form.
Dr. Cardoza is a pretty average teacher. He is there during office hours and if you send him your outline before a test, he will tell you the 4 essay questions that are on the test. His grading scale is really hard and you have to read for the quizzes every Thursday.
I'm a HUGE history nerd (4 on my APUSH), but Cardoza's class was the bane of my existence. His lectures were great & detailed, but when it came to the midterms he wanted you to spit back out his entire lecture. Too intense to be a core class. Doesn't even tell you his grading system-- "grades on basis of improvement."
Lectures are easy to follow. He gives an outline on the board and walks you through it so it's easy to understand and take notes. He's interesting and engaging but comes off as arrogant sometimes. He gives 2 essays for his test, 6 which you have to prepare for. He goes through them in class but he grades them tough.
My time in this class was some of the worst I have spent in my education. Dr. Cardoza takes no interest in the participation of his students, nor does he know a single student's name. He spends at least five minutes per lecture being condescending about our generation and is truly degrading when he danes to ask one student for an obscure answer.
Dr. Cardoza had amazing lectures; however, he did not seem interested in the success of his students and was a very tough grader on tests. There are no papers in his class, but there are essay tests and weekly quizzes! If you want a good grade, be prepared to work for it!
Cardoza was an ok teacher. I ended up with a B because he grades based on improvement. Go to each lecture and if you outline before each test and read for the quizzes you'll do fine. You can't skip class unless someone is willing to give you the lectures. He gives you the exam questions and picks 2. Final is worth 40% of your grade.
Cardoza is really nice and gives great lectures. But HIST 102? Way too difficult for a core class. His exams are all written, beware. Reading quizzes are every week (you're going to read A LOT), so if you misinterpret you're out of luck; material not gone over. TOUGH grader. Expect red pen marks. Take him if you dig history, avoid if you don't.
NO online resources, no slides, only grades are weekly reading quizes (material from which are not on exams), exams are in class essays the prompts are given prior but may not be used in class. VERY specific and detail oriented grader. Great if you are an auditory learn because he barely writes anything down only from an oral lecture.
I've taken two 300-level history courses w/ Cardoza. He's amazing lecturer, and always puts an outline on the board to help you follow along and take notes. It is VERY important to listen in class, as the tests are essay format and he wants you to provide a lot of evidence for your argument from his lectures. Not an easy A, but I've learned a lot.
I'll start by saying that I have always hated learning about history. But Professor Cardoza actually made this subject interesting for me. His lectures capture your attention and he's simply just amazing at what he does. He gives you an outline on the board to follow along for each lecture and these outlines end up being exactly whats on the test.
I loved Cardoza's class this semester. I have always done horribly in history because, quite frankly, I always found it dull and boring. This semester has really opened my eyes to how interesting history can be. If you go to class and take good notes it is easy to do well on the exams. He's super likable and I would definitely take him! No essays
Do not take his class. His lectures are incredibly long and you have to literally write down every word he says. Tests are essay format and require every piece of information he says during his lectures. No clear grading scale. Lots of reading every week. Grades essays extremely hard. Just an all around miserable experience. DO. NOT. TAKE. HIM.
Cardoza gives great lectures, but they drone on and on. He offers no notes, so you'll be scribbling or typing rapidly the entirety of the class. Don't skip class, just don't, you'll regret it. His exams are all written, and he expects you to quote him verbatim. He grades harshly and has a somewhat arrogant personality.
I absolutely hate history but His lectures are amazing. Tests are essay format, but if you listen in class and take solid notes, this class is a blast and quite easy to pass!
I LOVE HIM AND HIS CLASS. He's laid back and really funny. Take extensive notes over the lecture. Only tests are 2 midterms and a final: each test is just two essays and he gives you prompts beforehand- SOLELY OVER LECTURE. Weekly quizzes over about 30 pgs from textbooks but they are mostly multiple choice. Challenging course but so worth taking.
Best professor I've yet to encounter. Makes learning fun. I found myself actually excited for his lectures. He makes the class fun and enjoyable. He's really funny and will make you laugh. Also chances are you'll get out of class early quite often and his exams are super easy to do well on if you do the proper prep!
Heard he's retiring so I won't waste my time writing a lot. This class is basically Honor's 103. Lot's of books to read and tests have Text ID's and essays. Wouldn't take if I had any other choice. Read like 15% of the material because I'm a good student and I did fine in the class though so he's fine.
I love Dr. Cardoza! He was my favorite professor at Loyola so far. Your grade is basically based off of 3 essay format tests. You need to attend lectures and take good notes to make sure you put all the information on your exams but his lectures are amazing. Would highly recommend!
Dr. Cardoza was a great professor. His lectures are very interesting and easy to understand. As long as you listen carefully and take good notes, you will do fine in the class!
I loved this class so much! The lectures were so interesting. However, I am a history major so I am not sure how people who don't enjoy history would feel about this class since it is so lecture heavy. There are weekly reading quizzes, 2 midterms, and final. You need to study a lot for the tests because he is a hard grader. Taking notes is matters.
This class is extremely lecture heavy and you must go everyday. The lectures are interesting and for the first time I actually liked history. Weekly reading quizzes which are easy if you read and two midterms plus a final. He gives the questions a week before so you can prepare but grades harshly. He is a nice guy tho.
He's a knowledgable guy but impossible to even approach with any questions. Dry lectures, condescending. Stay away because he did not provide an actual grading scale. Your final grade is up to him. If he likes you, you will do great. If not, even hard work (spent weeks on papers and literally 5 hours/day every week studying) will not earn you an A.
great lectures, easy to take notes on. 20% quizzes, part.; 40% 2 midterm exams; 40% final exam. quizzes are on the readings from the textbook, 2 SA 6 MC. midterm and final are straight from his lectures. his lecture is your outline. gives exam questions ahead of time. memorize those specific lecture notes. not sure of grading scale.
DON'T SKIP! It's an interesting class but there are no slides or notes given to you. He speaks and you listen while writing. He gives the layout out for the class. Before class, I would type it, then follow his wording. You do have to remember a lot for the midterms and finals because he gives you the questions. Great person!
2 essay questions for exams. It seems crazy difficult but he gives you all the questions ahead of time and you pick 2 of 4 from the exam. His questions can literally be answered by his lectures, he gives you a clear outline of the lecture for the day and he is such a great guy!
Would definitely recommend this class! Make sure you go to EVERY class because the tests are based purely on lecture information. Take thorough notes. If you listen in class (and understand the big themes), you'll be fine! He just is concerned about you knowing the big picture of whats happening during the time periods.
Dr. Cardoza was a great teacher, but you have to work for it. There were 2 midterms and a final, all of which were entirely essay based, and the essays are based solely on lectures. With the lectures, he talks the entire time and has no power point, so you pretty much have to take notes on all that hes saying, but he also makes the lectures fun.
He was a great professor. I am not a fan of history but he made it interesting because it was like story time. Exams are all essays but he gives questions a week in advance. Quizzes every week based off reading. READ. Take good notes and its an easy A if you study notes before exam. Dont miss lectures! class based off stuff he says so pay attention
Great teacher, very nice and laid back guy. Lectures keep you interested even if the topic isn't that exciting. Write down basically everything he says because the exams are essays based on memorizing lectures. If you can do that the class is easy. No assigned hw. Two midterms and Final.
Cardoza is hilarious and a really great professor. History is boring but he made it enjoyable & his lectures are enjoyable. He ended class 15 mins early almost every day. Read! Its an easy A if you do. Quizzes on the readings every thursday, 2 midterms and a final both of which he gives you the questions and tells you what he wants. All from notes
Great prof. very lecture heavy and exams are entirely lecture so take good notes and study well. go to class! easy weekly reading quizzes if you read. No HW, just study notes REALLY hard for the exam because he grades carefully. He is super helpful though and makes history SO interesting. Such a great guy and would take this class again any day.
Class is based all off of the weeks readings and his verbal lectures. If you skip class you will miss information that will be tested! Three essay exams... essay prompts are given 5 days in advance! Detailed lecture notes are encouraged and will help you get an A in this class. Very helpful and approachable if you ever have any questions!
Dr. Cardoza is a really smart professor and nice guy. Make sure to read and take detailed notes during the lectures because you'll need to use your lecture notes on his exams which are entirely writing. He gives the prompts ahead of time and he and the TA were very accessible in office hours, strict and specific grader but willing to discuss it.
He gives you the grade he wants. Only focuses on western europe and cuts out history as he pleases. He will assign 100 pages of reading the same day as a paper is due then is mad when his students dont do the reading. No clear grading criteria at all, he just gives you the grade you think you deserve. Nice guy though.
Hes just the best. period.
doesn't make you work for it he is just unclear and complicated. I would never take his class again.
Absolutely enjoyed the subject material and he is an old school professor. He grades a bit subjectively and there isn't a whole lot of room for improvement since the class was just two exams and book review. Was a fun professor to listen to and engage with. Unsure if I would take him again but his class was one of the better ones I've taken at LUC.
I have learned so much from Prof. Cardoza. He's incredible. His lectures are easy to follow and he's super engaging. Take A LOT of notes (he doesn't do slideshows, he just talks at you). He doesn't really respond to emails so talk to him after class if you need something. 2 exams, one book report. He's one of the best. History majors, take him!
Attendance is crucial since exams are taken strictly from his lectures. Be prepared for unclear expectations. If you are male, you are automatically at an advantage. If you don't think your grade is fair, he offers the ability to argue it with him, but female students are at a disadvantage. He is available to students outside class.
Attendance is a must for this class - exams are straight from the lectures. Be ready for unclear expectations, and be aware that male students may have an advantage. However, the professor is available outside of class if you need help. I found unstuckstudy very useful for study prep.
