many, many notes. Tested on many subjects at a time. Must read entire chapters, notes ,and be highly attentive in order to do well. Funny guy.

very funny guy great class
This guy knows his stuff, has funny jokes, and his comments relate to the material. Pay close attention and take good notes to get a good grade.
He is a good teacher. his english isnt the best, so that makes it harder to understand. Test questions are hard to comprehend (kinda confusing). Good: he helps you if you need and ask.If you have an A in the class, no final. 5% extra credit. 85%=A,75%=B
I took both these classes short term and in econ1 he was more of a hard ass and econ2 was wayyy more kick back giving out extra credit if you wiped your ass. When he cracks jokes with his accent its funny and his tests are somewhat difficult. Read!!
Chan Rules! Best teacher on SMC campus. Very bright and very funny. Makes you like Econ.
a great teacher to have for economic class. he is the most funny teacher i have ever met in SMC.workload is not heavy at all and he gives reasonably long time to prepare for exams and quiz. don't have to do final if you get A for the exams prior to final.
has a unique sense of humor that often has the class laughing, his tests are straightfoward and come from lectures and the book, overall a very nice person, easy to get an A if you do the work
STAY AWAY from this professor. You will not be able to understand him. He is very unfair in his teaching, tests are extremely difficult. Was a complete waste of time taking his class. STAY AWAY
He is really cool. He knows his stuff and explain well. You can ask questions all the time. The test was not too hard but you got to prepare for the test. He offers extra credit to help students to get better grade. The coolest teacher in SMC. :)
Great professor! I had him for winter session and it was really laid back.. nothing complicated... common sense stuff but it gets boring at times... really nice guy though
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU people saying? Chan for Econ 1 was honestly the worst teacher I have EVER taken going to school in SMC. His class was extremely difficult, hard to understand, boring, tests were death. Honestly dont take this guy!
The clas is really hard but the professor is very nice, one of the nicest people you ever meet. IT requires a lot of studying but he is very willing to help.
A generous teacher who gives extra credits to help you out, drop lowest test, take home final exam. Textbook may not need for the class.
Very funny teacher. Told a lot of stories about his life as a police man. Taught well, but his tests are awful. Seemed understanding for a short semester.
This guy is one of the best teachers I've had in SMC.He has a mild accent, but it's very easy to understand him, because he can really explain economics.Talks a lot about his life, and is very funny.Just read the chapters and take good notes.Tests not hard.
very nice prof who really seems to care about his students. tests are not that bad. just make sure you take good notes during class.
Prof. Chan is one of the best instructors at SMC. He always wears a smile and genuinely enjoys teaching. Tests are easy and straightforward. I wish he taught more classes at SMC.
Great person, love his jokes and attitudes...omg his jokes are so dumb but funny. class is average, not hard if u study, ppl who complain r the ones who don't study. BTW If ur taking math 52 (applied calc)..DON'T TAKE KAVIANI!!!
I loved this professor. Many attempts at humor but the failed attempts were the best. Go to class ready to take notes and if you do you should have NO problems. Summer session with him is intense but your forced to keep up. Definetly Recommend taking him!!!
Awesome, didn;t even had to go to final still got A. THose who says he is a hard teacher probably don;t study at all. I'm telling u work some what for your grade its a easy class. BTW IF UR TAKING A MATH CLASS DON'T TAKE KAVIANI!!! TRUST ME!!!
tries to be humorous and that in itself is funny. heavy accent and sometimes is hard to understand which can really affect the class as a whole.
The best teacher I've had. Caring(will add u even if full), those who rate him bad are dumb because he lets you drop one quiz and if you have an A no nd to take final like me. Learned so much from him in 8 week course and his quizzes are straight off lectures. He also gives extra credit.
i don't know where his quiz come from.... it's very hard although i'd already read many times from the textbook before the quiz.. however, he is a nice instructor.
The teacher is great. Fun and helpful. Semi easy grader. Study and you should do fine. Take notes. He lets you drop one quiz. He wants you to get an A so he helps you in any way he can. Extra credit helps. He goes fast but you still learn.
Loved him! What can I say, he was the best teacher for Econ. Clear lectures, lenient grading; don't bother buying a book, I didn't read a page and still got an A. Lectures are vital so don't miss class. I learned a lot, probably the best class I've taken at SMC thus far. He's funny, a must take!
This teacher really knows his stuff. He makes the class fun and goes over all the information. He even goes over the test before you take it. There is a lot of information that he knows how to explain very well and in a very logical way. The 8 week classes are highly recommended.
ak-chan! this is the man to go to for econ. gives clear examples and reviews problems before test. tries to make sure everyone understands, even the stone men! makes class enjoyable with his good sense of humor. sometimes before class, tells stories about his police side-job which is interesting.
cool teacher seems strict likes to make jokes he is a cop final is hard.......pretty cool let u out early
what he says in class is not what he gives on the test - you will have to read the book. good - if you have an A, you don't need to take the final and he gives extra credit. bad - when i pointed out a mistake he made on the key for scantrons, he did not correct it and started giving me attitude - he's a cop on reserve who can't admit his own flaws.
Professor Chan is very nice and warm, but too hard to understand. He can't understand what you're saying either. He tries to explain concepts, but uses the worst examples in the worst accent. If you know economics, then it's okay for you. But if you're new to economics, I would never recommend him. I feel as though I learned very little.
He is very hard to understand. You need to read the book and work by Uselve if U want to get an A. The examples that he gave us were very unclear plus he never answer questions clearly. He is a good man but I don't recomend him. I got a B in his class
i would not recommend his class. his quizzes are harder than his test & Exams.u need to do weel from the beginning or else u will get a D in his class. all of my friends got a easy A in economics by taking other professors, but i had to take him, i had no other choice... ECONOMICS SHOULD BE EASY, BUT HE MAKES IT HARDER FOR EVERYONE...also a cop...
I don't understand why there are so many negative comments. His exams are not that difficult. He drops a quiz grade and he gives extra credit (to everyone - make sure you attend every class so that you don't miss out on the ex. credit assign.) If you pass all of your exams with an A you don't have to take the final.
I would not recommend taking this teacher for economics. He makes his quizes and exams difficult and the questions are tricky. You need to read the chapters thoroughly. Many of the questions on the exams are never covered in the lectures. A lot of the students in our class had a difficult time getting good scores on the quizes and exams.
worst teacher ever!!! can not understand a word outta his mouth, DO NOT TAKE!! his test are tricky, and is not helpful at all during exams. If you ask a question he will look at you like your an idiot!
A rather difficult course; however, he is rather caring for the success of his students. This class is very difficult, but he does his best to make it entertaining. I would recommend him just to make a positive contact with a faculty member who actually cares.
Chinese is required in order to understand his lectures--if you dont know chinese dont take the class--dont need book
The tests are harder than the quizzes. YOu must study for everything. Read thoroughly. True, not everything on the tests was covered in the lectures. His tests are extremely ambiguous. He gives extra credit. It is possible to get an A...I did with the help of God and hard work. He is very funny and he loves to tell stories of his cop job.
This class required a lot of time if you want to get and “A” be ready to read the chapters a couple of times plus he is boring as hell. He always gives examples with markers and he has a thick pronunciation. I don’t recommend him, if you can take another instructor do it so.
No,no,no.Run away!I took his class because the students here have written good things about him and they really tricked me so i have to take it again. He really looks at you like u r an idiot if u don't understand something.Very tricky questions on the tests. Doesn't explain clear.Doesn't answer question even if u go to his office.WASTE OF TIME!
I love this guy. Easy A guaranteed. Don't worry u will get used to his accent.
He is ok but his tests are very tricky and hard! I wouldn't take him again! What he explains on class, doesn't even show up on the tests!...
TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD and not relevant to anything he teaches or that it is in the book. This class is only a 3 unit course and I studied for the tests as if it were 5. I am a top student and always have been and found his tests hard. However, he does care very much about the success of his students. If you know econ, then take this class.
His quizes are not easy~ but all MC!!!!! also he gives extra credit~ take him if you have confidence!
You can only take this professor if you did studied the Econ before ]~~I don't think that he is good at teaching. He just always talked about somethings not related to Econ in the class........I don't think that his lecture was useful~~His class was so boring
If you study the book befor class you will be able to understand his lectures. Really nice funny guy that will try his best to answer your questoins. I had him in an 8 week class and it went by fast and if you study you should do fine. Econ is pretty hard anyway
Chan's a cheery guy. His lectures are clear and comprehensive. If you ever get lost, he's there to help. His grading system is more than reasonable, so this is an easy A, so long as you keep up with the material you're learning. I'd recommend Economics with Chan.
Prof Chan is surely my idol. He's such an experienced teacher. Explanations are shown on board in point-form and there is no way one would not be able to catch up with the pace. Might a little hard without a prior knowledge, but I got an A while thats my first time studying Econ. Final exam waived when you got an A before it. Thanks prof.
I took his 8 week classes during the long semester. Honestly speaking, he wasn't THAT easy. but... he grades really fairly.if there're 20/40 ppl in class who got an A before final exam,he wld give the 20 of us an A in the class w/o having to take final exam.on top of tt,u can still get a chance to get an A if you do well for finals.test in MC!
Lets put it this way. Econ is not hard but honestly i learned more from the book than i did from the teacher. He makes it seem harder than it really is. If i was the teacher every1 would get an A.He needs to Keep It Simple(KISS) and needs 2 review n explain wats on the test better. Such simple concepts made hard. Just think logically+read book.
hey guys, you guys can do it. Econ has SIMPLE concepts, it may sound confusing at 1st but once u read book and understand it, its easy. Just made confusing with chan and his thick accent. Make sure to do review q's and practice q's u'll do fine! prepare 4 the mcq's(some have similar answers) and specific q's off book and u;ll do alright.
The best teacher I've ever had.... made me wanna change my major to econ! Friendly, helpful, and extremely inspiring! Love him!

I think I work hard. Tests are picky~ I thought that I did a great job after taking the tests but, I didn't. however, it was an interesting class. and his lecturing is not bad at all.
Professor Chan is a very good speaker. He's funny and kind. Thank You for always bringing your positive energy in class.
he is very fun teacher and explains everything very well, def should take his class makes class time fun and is not boring. its a joy to come to his class. test are really easy
Fun to be in class with him. He is nice and entertaining and is a good teacher. I looked foward to class with him. I god a good grade and I think the rest of the class had good grades too. I highly reccomend taking Econ with Prof. Chan.
Cool Prof. he is also a LAPD. An interesting class and you sure can learn a lot of things.....I got an A without taking the final...
He is really a nice nice teacher~!!! Attend the class before quiz to get the answers of the quiz xDDD" you can attend the next class if you miss the previous one, he will count your attendence too!! Tests are easy, sometimes he allows us to bring a formula card~good guy A+++++++++++
Prof Chan is not an easy A. However, an A is nothing impossible.extremely clear in his lectures...tests are multiple choice.Sometimes he gives a few answers. You need to be a serious student.. and you will get an A. If you have an a before the final you dont have to take it.oh and hes so funny! he really got me interested in econ
Professor Chan lectures very well. However, you need to study hard and pay attention during class. If you get 90% before the final, then you don't have to take the final~!!!
Chan teaches comprehensibly with clear lecture notes. If you go every class and study for maybe an hour for his quizzes, then you're good to go. His mini-exams are extremely easy. I skipped class at least 10 times so I had a hard time keeping up with Econ1. But I still have an A. Fair class.
This was not an easy class, but he is a good teacher. He breaks everything down, so if you just study your notes then you should do fine on his exams and quizzes.
Chan is a good prof. you actually learn econ. But sometimes his exams are worded differently, so u realli need to know the material. Read the book and PAY ATTENTION to his lectures.if u understand your notes and study them you'll b fine with the quizzes and exams. He curved the final grade 88% was an A, 78% was a B visit him during office hours too
Chan is a decent teacher. He uses the board a lot and you need to pay attention to his lectures and notes to really do well in his quizzes, which are not too difficult. 80% notes 20% textbook seems to be the accurate mix. He is very smart with his wording in quizzes and often will ask things in different ways. Questions are also sometimes repetitiv
Had him for econ 1, could barely hear him due to his accent. Very difficult and the class started with around 100+ student but at the end only 40- students remained. not an easy class. the book and his handout/lectures were slightly different. he is also a cop do urself a favor and go to another teacher
his lectures are clear but he tries to trick you on his exams. i personally dislike teachers who deliberately tries to trick you. not everyone are econ majors. his mini quizes are simple, however. hey, i'm all for challenging exams in advanced courses but this is econ 1. keep it simple and to the point.
Excellent teacher. Has an accent but is very understandable. Teachers material well, easy tests if you attend class and take notes. Lets you skip final exam and last test if you have a high grade. Dont buy the book, you won't need it if you take good notes.
Prof Chan is my favorite SMC teacher. He actually makes Econ fun. The test are hard (the first one is easy but don't let it fool you as they keep getting harder and harder) Go to class every day and take notes. Test are almost totally on notes but read the book to get a different perspective on the info since his tests cover many perspectives.
the best econ teacher at smc, and probably the best professor ive taken with .. im gonna take with him also for econ2. got A, i didnt really study, all the examz and quizzes were based on his notes and lectures.
Prof. Chan is a really good teacher! The tests are a bit tricky due to the wording but as long as you listen to the lectures and study from your notes, you can get an A. Take him!
Oh Prof Chan, how I miss your utterance of the word "parallel". Haha, Chan is a great teacher who might have a little accent, but is totally clear on the material; he knows his stuff very well and is easily accessible during his office hours. Key to getting an A is to visit and go over your past "mini-exams" and "quizes". Teacher deserves and A.
Professor Chan is an awesome professor. His accent wasnt too strong and he gave a lot of insight into the real world. He drops a quiz and a test, making it very easy to get a B, i got an A. Hes also pretty funny and has office hours/
He is very funny and really cares about how you do in the class. The tests are kind of tricky but he drops a test and a quiz.
A very good professor. Read the book & ask questions if you're confused and you'll do fine. I got a C but only because I didn't really read.
Great explanations. I loved the real world examples. Take good notes and it's an easy A. Also go to class because you miss out on a lot if you don't. Only bad part was inconvenient office hours and he wasn't friendly then.
Mr. Chan's class is very straightforward. Tests are multiple choice, he is entertaining and very reasonable. Attend class, and take notes, he rarely uses the textbook, so as long as you make note of his lectures, you'll be fine for quizes and tests.
pro chan is a very very bad professor, do not take his class, i hate him.........................................................
i think hes a helpful funny teacher who tries to teach econ as simple as possible. honestly i think the textbook is not that good but you still need to read and understand it to do good on the tests1. good professor take him..
hes honestly the best professor i've had at smc. hes funny and so easy going. he makes u contemplate switching majors to econ by the end of the semester. lectures are clear and he explains things better than the book.... plus hes got some crazy life stories... afterall he is a cop
Professor Chan is AMAZING! he really cares about his students and make the class experience very fun! He has a one on one relationship with the class and entertains with life stories and jokes. He does all he can to make sure everyone gets the best possible grade. very sweet man. :) I even took him scholars!! i recommend
I am in love with Professor/Officer Chan! He is the sweetest, hottest, funniest man alive! I recommend his class 100% it has only been a few days since i've ended class with him and I miss him like crazy! I cant stop thinking about him! If you want an amazing, warm hearted teacher take him! He is very helpful and he is a good man to the earth!!!
The book he offers is not good. However, the way he teaches is very very well. listens his class, takes notes, Studys the handout and notes. carefully read the textbook(only if he offer you to read). you will get the A and love economics. I got A in his class(both Econ 1&2)
great professor, great man!! not hard if you don't fall behind and pay attention in class
HE IS VERY VERY FUNNY AND NICE BUT THE EXAMS ARE VERY HARD. EVEN IF U STUDY THE NOTES HIS TESTS ARE VERY TRICKY WATCH OUT
Great guy. his classes are not hard, but they are not for the lazy minded. Be ready to study. His lectures are kind of confusing, but his teaching skills are not so bad. He's an extremely nice, and genuine man. Loves his students, and wants to make sure everybody gets the best grade, but after all you do get what you earn.
REALLY REALLY NICE GUY! but the subject is definitely not an easy one! doesn't take attendance, lets you out extremely early, HARD mini exams and exams but sometimes gives easy classwork to make up for it. This is definitely not a class you want to slack off in!
it is not an easy A. Pro.Chan's lecture is pretty clear, but his test is a little bit hard. u should focus on the notes and handouts he provides. i dont like him too much, because he sometimes humiliates Chinese people.
One of the funniest and straight forward professors I have had yet! Don't miss class and be there on time. He is really good at explaining the concept and takes time to answer questions and talk about real life situations.
Quizzes and mini-exams are challenging. Multiple extra credit options. Not an easy A class, but Prof. Chan is a great teacher and very helpful. Textbook is course required, but supplemental only for assignments. Recommended if you are an Econ major. Otherwise take another Prof if you want an easy A.
Great Teacher, easy mini-exams, easy h.w. He always gives free points away. But keep out an eye for his EXAMS.. they are harder than you'd expect. But overall u'll get an A if u try.
Awesome Prof. If you take good notes and pay attention during the lectures, this is an easy A. The book isn't really used, but it can help. He makes Econ fun which is pretty hard to do. Explains concepts very well and takes time to answer questions.
He is a great teacher, he is the best SMC teacher that i have taken. He lectures really well, gives good notes. His tests and mini-exams are not that easy but if you study you can get a good grade. He gives extra credit and tries to help everyone. Take him for econ 1 & 2 if ur really interested in Econ or u are an econ major, you will learn a lot,
Economy 1 Fall '09-Chan is great! He's a good teacher and getting an A is not difficult. Even more, he's got some great stories that don't really get in the way. Only drawback was the lack of maturity in the class. Chan handles it well and if you're a good student, you'll get your A (and maybe learn a little about economics in the process)
great professor! funny class!
great professor! funny class! test is a little bit difficult but still easy for whom study hard! helpful professor
king of economics
He is an excellent Economics teacher, and he makes the class interested and easily makes the class interesting. I would Highly recommend taking him as proff for any class.
LOVE HIM!!!!!HE REALLY ENJOYS TEACHING AND MAKES A DULL MATERIAL LIKE ECONOMICS INTERESTING AND FUN. ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY, BUT YOU MIGHT LOSE SOME EXTRA POINTS HERE AND THERE. HE'S ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. IF YOU STUDY, TESTS ARE A BREEZE. IF YOU'RE BRIGHT AND WITTY, TEXTBOOK IS NOT NECESSARY. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. ONE OF THE BEST IN SMC!
One of the best professor in smc! highly recommanded!!!
King of Economics (2), best teacher for econ @ smc, such an interesting class
Very passionate about teaching and educating students in ECON. Make dry materials interesting by explaining how ECON works in the real practical world. Will take him for ECON 1 and highly recommend him for any one, who may not be in buzi/econ/acctg major
He is really a great professor ever in the world. He motivates me to go to His Class. great explanation. Awesome class. Easy one
read! take good notes. the test werent easy for me. i got sick and had to drop less than half way through, but still feel like i learned alot. great guy great techer
I love this Professor. His lectures are really clear, and the test comes mostly from the note. He gives extra credit. Got A in both econ 1 and econ 2.
Both Econ 1 and Econ 2. He gives LOADS of extra credit. Just SHOW UP and read your notes. Friendly, wonderfully dry sense of humor, really cares about the students. The best part is that he uses ecompanion and you can see up to date grades all through the class.I got an A without even trying. The textbooks are loose-leaf style, just make copies.
Really hard to get an A. Many ppl who can get an A because they have ANSWERS..Dont take him! Take GILL instead!!
Took him for both Econ 1 and 2; got A's in both. Attendance is important: he gives pop quizzes, and exams are based purely on his lecture notes. He is very willing to help his students if you seek him out, but don't slack off and expect him to do you any favors. Show up for class and study your notes, and you will get an A. Recommended.
SO CUTE SO FRKN CUTE. Cute little asian man. Totally funny. Hard to understand sometimes. Not hard to get an A but does give pop quizzes. Class can get a wee bit boring esp if you're taking two classes during winter. Funny guy though. I mean, check out that picture! cutest little man ever. I'm in love.
Took him for both Econ 1 and 2. Got A in both.
If you have a choice between Chan and another teacher, choose Chan. The class is easy, not boring at all, and has a fun atmosphere. Most of the tests are based on notes, but reading the book really helped me on tests. There's a lot of math in Chan's class, so if you don't like it, don't take him. But other than that, he's great.
kool professor! funny, sometimes arrogant, but funny and EASY :D
He is funny sometimes and nice, but really hard to understand. he doesnt explain things, he writes things on the board expecting you to understand. He is fast, and he doesnt put the information in an context. The book was just confusing, and he grades you alot on unprepared quizzes. It is also alot of math.
You have to be a serious student to take his class, dont miss any class and class note, study hard for all the quiz and exam, otherwise its impossible to pass the class. I was doing really hard and didnt miss any class, got a B. So, good luck!
If you think Chan's class is hard and confusing, then do yourself a favor and never do anything related to economics. Yes, the tests are a bit difficult, but there's tons of other points as well as plenty of extra credit. He goes a bit fast, but it's still easy to pay attention. Quizzes are straight out of the book, easy. The class is pretty fun.
Professor Chan is the man! His lecturing style is excellent, and he makes class fun. Awesome class and professor.
awesome!
I took this class as scholars. He was difficult but as long as you show up and do the reviews, you should have no problem passing.
Very knowledgeable professor received his phd in econ so he teaches economics at a high level class consists of 3 tests worth 40 points each and 3 mini quizzes which he gives you review sheets for gives a lot of extra credit over the semesters as long as you keep up you can receive an easy a in this course
I think it's an easy A. It's just that his lectures do not really help with the test. You have to read the book thoroughly to even get a good grade on the exams. I'm disappointed that class barely met and the info didn't stick by the time he tested us.
alright i took this professors because i came to this site and read all his comments and everyone said easy A great teacher, well i'm hear to update u guys that he is not an easy A, however he is a really good professor in teaching. That's all. He's clear, he's smart, and he's fun. BUT NOT EASY A, he grades the hw hard, his tests are fair.
This class is most def not an easy A. Read the book thoroughly. Do the practice exams the book provides. Study the heck out of his notes and study guides. Sit near the front and realllllly pay attention and you'll do well. Getting an A in his class is very realistic, but you have to apply yourself. Take the hw seriously - he grades for accuracy.
Chan is an easy A. You honestly have to be an idiot to receive a B. Just copy whatever he writes on the board and youre golden. I put in MINIMAL effort and ended up with a 102 percent in the class. Chan is a ridiculously nice professor. Lots of easy points available. Oh and if you have an A in the class you dont have to take the final.
He was the most amazing professor ever!!! I took econ like twice before I finally took his class and passed. I really understood the material.
Great professor! Very clear in his lectures about what you need to know. Exams are easier than his mini quizzes. Keeps class entertaining. Would definitely recommend Professor Chan
Some people really love the way he teaches but I don't. He speaks low and has an accent which makes him a bit hard to understand. He jumps all over the place which I tend to find confusing. Overall if you study it's not that hard. The exams are easier than the mini quizzes also.
Great teacher. He was not an easy A but definitely anyone who is somewhat smart and hardworking can get an A. You DEFINITELY have to go to class every time because the tests are like 90% based on his lectures and he gives random (but simple) assignments in class. Exams weren't too bad and math was ez 2 me(engineer) He gives some extra credit too.
Where do I begin? He has mini quizzes and exams that follow. His mini quizzes are NOT mini what-so-ever! And they are actually very difficult. Fill in the blank. Exams are okay, MC. He seems nice, but personally seems like an act. Take this class only if you have to & at your own risk. Not an easy A! But if you have an A by final you don't take it.
Not an easy A. If you give decent amount of time for it, you will do fine, quiz is off his in class notes and handout and exam is notes/handout/book, easy math, nice person. Would recommend
3 midterms and 1 final and mini quizzes. if you study what he writes on a board in class + online handouts you will surely get an A. Very helpful, go to his office hours. He gives out extra credits on each midterm. Get grade A before the final so that you don't have to take it. Interesting lecture. He lets people go early lol Highly recommended.
NOT RECOMMENDED, very boring class text is filled with useless information and lectures are long and incomprehensible at all. Bad english, topics jump all over
He is straightforward about what he wants from you. But overall not the easiest A I got a B and worked hard for that!!!
Very knowlegeful and interesting. Lectures are very straight forward, and you have to attend classes to do well on the test. If you work hard, and study, take good notes in class, you will get a good grade. Not an easy class, and he does expect you to know formulas etc. No notes on tests. Fair and very organized. I would take the class again.
Large class, attendance is not mandatory. My complaint was with his lack of instruction and help. If students didn't understand a topic or any of the formulas containing math he would just move right on and keep going with his lecture. His quizzes are HARD and his tests are a little easier. He'll ask the same question with diff details on tes
THIS IS MY FAVORITE TEACHER. Now, if you really care to learn the subject, Chan is the man. Great teacher if you sit in the front, and pay attention. If you sit towards the back don't expect to learn much. His notes/hand outs are essentially the tests and if you study them you will be fine. I really recommend him.
Pay attention, take good notes, and go over them then you don't have to worry not having have an A in this class. Tests are straightforward. Lots of extra credits. He needs more time with his students though; the lectures could have been more in-depth. Still, you'll have a general idea about economics.
He's good at what he does, answers any questions you have. Tests may be a little harder than expected, but overall a good professor and also hilarious.
Professor Chan is hands down my favorite teacher at SMC! I had little interest in Economics prior to taking his classes. He has made me love Economics! He is extremely clear and his sense of humor makes the class fly by. Study and you will be fine!
He's is really nice and funny, but econ is hard. It is possible to get an A but you do have to work hard for it. Mini quizzes are harder than exams. You cold probably find a better professor though..
Very easy! Several quizzes and tests and no final if u get 90 before it! Funny class! always end in advance!!!
One of the worst professor i have ever had. His mini quiz har much harder then the actually tests. I scored A and Bs at the test but got a C because i choked his mini quiz.
Chan is an amazing teacher. His econ 1 class ios striaghtforward. Only 3 tests and if you have an A before the final you dont have to take it. Take him!
Not a bad teacher, not an excellent one either. Take good notes, read the textbook, study hard before exams. Mini-quizes are NOT mini! They are harder than the exams and takes about an hour, eventhough he says that you're doing them at the end of classes. I learned some econ, but mainly from the textbook.
Professor Chan was AMAZING! I learned so much in his class and I found myself talking about Econ even when I wasn't in class! He was a really great teacher! His tests are pretty difficult but if you study you can easily do it. He is always at his office hours. I hope to get him for my next econ class as well! Got that A and hope to get another one!
He is my first economic teacher. His class is very interesting and relaxing, but in order to get high score in his class, you really need to study the notes and handouts. It is not easy A! He corrects the paper very fast, and he is very helpful to answer any questions, he is a nice and funny guy.
Mr. Chan is a fun teacher, always jokes. I enjoyed he's classes up to the point when we had our tests. You need to study a lot, and the tests are HARD. In one week you will receive 2 tests; total of 70 questions. Read the handouts he provides, and the notes....but don't expect an easy A!
This was my 1st econ class and I was a bit intimidated b the testbook material, but Dr. Chan really made it interesting and motivated me to study. I was getting a B up until the last exam and then pulled up to an A so I didn't have to take the final. Quizzes are harder than exams,if you are getting A after last midterm, you don't have to take final
Mr. Chan can be so hard to understand at times. He constantly makes really bad jokes like "would you rather bring home the bacon or borrow your neighbors bacons?" He's very knowledgeable but can be extremely confusing.
I am currently taking ECON1, this is my first semester at SMC as well as in LA in general, and I am so glad I have this professor! He knows how to keep student attention, is very kind and helpful, and has made me love economics! I am taking ECON2 as well in this semester so I can compare and can definitely say that Chan is the man! Amazing teacher
Mr. Chan's teaching is really good, but the tests and exams are little difficult.
Never ever expect easy classes in Econ. I took his Econ 1 last winter session. Work hard u have chance to get an A. There is a lot of work. Also, sometimes the tests are confusing. He likes to use some tricky words. Overall, he is a great guy. He makes jokes that make the lecture relaxing. Previously, if u get A before the final, u don't have to take it. But now the policy has changed. And u can prepare an index card and write whatever u want. I got A in this class with lots of efforts.
You can tell he loves to teach and it makes class very exciting to attend. He is a great professor and challenges the students without being too difficult. There are 3 50-point multiple choice tests and 1 final worth 100 points. He re-used some of the questions so go over your tests in his office hours. He's really helpful!
Easy, clear and helpful. He is very nice, he gives extra credit. All you need to do is to attend all classes to take good note. If you understand the material you can get an A. He allows students bring a note card during the test. Very nice professor and willing to help students.
One of the favorite classes i took in smc! Professor Chan is hilarious and easy-going. Test materials are covered in lectures. He offers extra credits which make his class much more easier. Highly recommend to ppl. in business/ econ major,CHAN is the MAN!
Simply the worst teacher ever..
For people who are interested in econ or are econ majors he is a easy b or a. Gives you the information to get an a on the test. Only downer is that everything in his class is waited heavily. Covers most topics but I feel that he doesn't cover enough as a university econ class will. Very respectful but sometimes addidtude is fake. Recommend him.
Tests are mainly from his lectures and handouts. Lets you use an index card for tests. 4 tests including the final. Fair amount of in-class assignments so don't miss any days, he gives them out randomly. Gives EC from these in-class assignments, but not to much. This class is the epitome of getting what you put into it. Easy A/B if you don't slack.
This professor may be educated but cannot speak the English language properly. After each class I feel like I'm FOB. He can be pompous at times and full of himself. I would advise taking another professor.
Do not take this teacher, he does not answer to his email, try to be funny... get off topic a lot and can not speak english... DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Professor Chan is amazing his lectures are clear make sure you study your notes, and his study guides for his exams do that and you'll get a guranteed B.
Very good professor. Clear lectures, have to attend them in order to do well on the tests. Tests are a bit difficult but gives little quizzes that help you out. May be a bit rude but overall very good and interesting teacher.
He is the best economics professor. I took his class before I transferred to USC and all I can say is that this guy teaches a lot better than my professor in USC. He literally said everything you need to know for the exam and wrote them down on the board for you. I can't find a professor clearer than him. DO understand his lecture and handouts.
Hardest class I have ever taken at SMC! The weird thing about his class is that his lectures are crystal clear but once you actually take the test its a whole different story. I heard Econ 2 is way easier but Econ 1 was pretty hard. Be careful with this class because you only take one test before the withdrawal date after its 2 more and the final
Clear lectures but exams are difficult and not taught topics are on tests. Very tough tests!
Lectures are clear and concepts make sense when he explains it in class. However, the way he words questions on every Exam can throw you off completely. So it is important to read the textbook and fully understand every detail!
Breaks down which formulas you need for the test but still read the book. He's rude, he is the least helpful professor I've ever had at smc- refused to answer my questions. Tries to be funny which may charm some students. Old school method of teaching economics so you don't really learn but you'll get the grade you want. Do not recommend
Lectures aren't relevant to exams. Optional Extra Credit. Satisfactory preparations for exams. Effort to teach isn't really present. Relationship with students is generalized and e picks on you a lot.
Chan is the man. If you ask for assistance during his office hours, he is extremely helpful and will explain things until you understand them well! Lectures are funny as he incorporates humor. Take his class!! You definitely learn about Economics and can apply it to your personal life. Tests can be tough, but if you study well, you will be fine.
Your grade will reflect what you put into his class. His lectures are extremely clear, and the homework is easy. His tests are based on the lectures and some topics in the book which he won't go ever, but those questions can be answered with logic. If you read ahead, lectures will be easier to understand. Also, study study study!
He does a good job breaking down the formulas, but you more than likely won't learn anything from him because of accent makes him hard to understand at times and you will be most likely teachong your self.
Great professor. Very funny makes class go by fast. Explanations on board very easy to understand due to large amount of examples and practice. Very little hw tests are easy if you study hard.
Don't take him. He is very strict.
The class won't be too hard as long as you go to class and take good notes. He gives really good examples and makes the information easy to understand. Don't miss any homework assignments because they're really easy points. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go if you wanna pass with an A.
Chan is a great teacher. He is pretty funny as well. His tests are tough though, make sure you do some reading and do all the handouts and hw pages every point counts! A lot of the material is conceptual so know your stuff. He is pretty open to helping just have to go during office hours.
When I took this class, I did not know what I would expect. Professor Chan is hilarious and gives a lot of advices regarding the modern world from safety to profit entrepreneurship. I did not do the work at first so I ended up with a B. I suggest you to work from the beginning and you'll pass easily! Would take again! He's amazing!
Chan is a genuinely nice guy who tries to spice up an otherwise boring subject with bits of comedy. He has a bit of an accent and every once in a while that will mess up the wording on a test question. No effort B. Moderate effort A.
His class is super easy. He is a really funny guy and tries to give relevant current examples that are super simple to understand. I'm quite bored of the subject material but professor Chan makes it somewhat interesting and bearable. Just pay attention in class and you should get an A easily.
Great choice for Econ. Clear lectures, good at explaining economics. Lectures can be a little boring, but he's a funny guy. Curved the final grade so more students could get A's which was nice.
Have super accurate lecture notes, and learn well. This professor delivers material with remarkable efficiency. Be on time, come to every lecture, work diligently, and it will reflect on your exams, homework, and classwork. Take advantage of office hours. This professor commands respect, and does not mess around.
Honestly, the class was hard because it was test heavy. But make sure you read each question on the test, word for word. The way he phrase things are kinda weird, but if you know the concepts and read properly, then it'll be fine. He'll also give you extra credits on random days but you have to be in class for it!!
Lectures went very fast and if you weren't sitting in the front of the class he was hard to understand. After the second test my B dropped to a C and I decided to withdraw from the class and retake it next semester. If you're only taking Econ for GE requirements I would try to avoid him.
He's an overall alright professor. Not the best. The tests were somewhat easy, but somewhat hard at the same time. He gives a lot of extra credit though.
He's a good professor. Between a 3-4. Attend every class and keep on track of the inclass assignments because he will not accept late homework at all, and he might ask you once or twice to give him your notes on the topics, and if you don't have them (no notice beforehand), you get a 0/5 points. He gives lots of EC, but his exams are tricky.
He is the worst professor. Don't even think about taking his class and that serious.
One of the most poorly structured courses I've had the misfortune of taking! 1 HW on second day only one whole semester 10% of entire grade. Pop quizzes based on current day's note despite teaching style completely not conducive to in class assignments or textbook learning. Tests in format that demonstrates 0 conceptual understanding of material.
He's a nice guy overall! His tests do not reflect anything that we learned in class. I was left very confused on his final. He also has a bit of an accent which is hard to understand sometimes. Just prepare to read the text book (which is overpriced) so you're not left hanging on tests and finals. Also he doesn't offer EC despite what others say
The professor has a great personality but is a horrible teacher. The material is very tough to comprehend and can get very confusing fast. Tests are very hard and that's basically what your grade is dependent upon. Doesn't offer EC, although some say he does.
Extremely hard course, especially with this professor. Not easy to learn and you can get lost pretty early on. Do not recommend to anyone who cares about their gpa.
At first it was hard coping with his lectures and the exams seemed hard but as soon you understand how to study for the exams, you should be good. Note down his lectures and pay attention. Studies only what he covers and you will be fine.
The weird thing about his class is that his lectures are crystal clear but once you actually take the test its a whole different story. Relationship with students is generalized and e picks on you a lot. The way he phrase things are kinda weird, and he does't know how to write.
If you are terrible at Econ like me I would stay away from this professor. He did not make Econ easy to understand at all. I would just read to pass but I personally need someone to clarify things for me and he did not do that well. His quizzes and exams are really difficult too. You will only pass if Econ comes easy to you.
I don't know what happened to him but it seems like that he was becoming a really harsh grader after Spring 2015. If you wanna get A, do not select his course.
I took Professor Chan for Econ. 2. First things first, he is a great teacher. He explains concepts clearly, and is easy to understand. However, your grade is very dependent on the tests. When it comes to the tests, read every question carefully! There will be 1-2 problems on each test that were not covered in class. He offers a good amount of ec.
I took Professor Chan for Econ 1 & Econ 2 and he was great. Homework was assigned once in a while and it will come from the textbook. He exams were not that difficult all you need to do is study, since many people take it for IGETC they don't really put the effort into the class. His exams were mostly based on handouts he gave.
Took the 8 week course and it was not that difficult. You just have to be really committed to the class. Every assignment is weighed equally and can affect your grade in the long run. Prof. Chan is a good teacher and is understandable despite what others say. The tests are difficult, but if you study the book and notes you will be fine.
He is a very good teacher. He explains lecture very clearly even Im a international student I can still understand his explanation very well. He always go over the test before he starts the exam which is very helpful for your grade. Besides, he has a grate sense of humor which makes this class very interesting. Take his class! You wont regret it
Dont take this class if u want an A.
His lectures are very clear, however his tests make you so confused and is very unclear. However, if you study all your notes and the textbook before tests you should get an A. Saying that, per 70 students there are aproximately 5-9 A's so take that as you will.
Worst prof ever in smc, I was added into the class and asked him what textbook to use since he's out of syllabus, he showed me econ 2 textbook name and told me to take a picture of the cover instead of econ 1! He asked the class "any questions" and ignore you when you raise your hand EVERY TIME, don't take him unless you learn high school eco well
professor chan is such a sweet guy. you can tell he's passionate about economics and does his best to help his students understand. easy homework (rarely any), allows a study card on tests, in general an easy a. doesn't say anything about tardies or absences, but he's lecture heavy so try to show up every class.
he is not a bad guy, but not a good guy. the lecture he present in class is clear, but many concepts on the exam are not covered in class. after I looking through the textbook he requires us to purchase, I realizing that he missed too many topics however the topics he missed are on the exam. isn't it amazing?
Very nice and understanding guy. Dont expect an easy A though. I got a C in the class, thinking I would at least get an A or a B.
Professor Chan gives great lectures, he uses examples from his own life experience to help support what he teaches and his lectures are really well organized. Professor Chan makes an effort to get to know his students and is generous with assigning extra credit assignments.
Chan is very clear on instructions, he is a tough grader so be sure to be thorough in all discussion posts, essays, other work etc. He gets absolutely all of his material from the book so make sure you take your time reading it to comprehend.
He doesn't teach you economics, he just tells you what to read in the book. English is not his first language and I had trouble understanding him which was also a big issue. I had to send him 3 emails before he replied. The homework average scores for the class were constantly 60-70%. 2 our of 3 final essay topics were about China, he's Chinese.
Exam heavy grading system and only lists 3 exams on syllabus when there are 4 without even a relative calender. Saw a lot of material on exams which wasn't even mentioned in passing in class. Reading homework due every week from a terribly written textbook full of typos and grammatical errors.
currently enrolled in his econ 1 class and it is the worst thing ever. no exceptions or work arounds due to covid-19. his lectures are long, fast, and information dense. he doesn't reply to everyones emails or answer every question you may have. he is all over the place and his quizzes and exams dont match his lectures. new system needed!
Chan is good. Take good notes, record his lectures, ask questions, form a study group and see him on his office hours to go over material and upcoming/previous midterms and you should succeed. He's a great lecturer w/ a good sense of humour. Don't underestimate this class just because is 3 units. Gives plenty of extra credit too.
Chan's online class is good but doesn't compare to taking the class on campus. The way he formats it online can be a bit confusing and definitely could use some improvement. You have to have a drive and interest in Econ so I can see how some might feel meh about the class. Heads up, the book for both Econ 1 and 2 are hideous in format. D:
Struggles to communicate concepts effectively. He talks for most of the lecture without engaging often with the entire class. The textbook required for the class is full of typos, grammatical errors and is difficult to understand. Test heavy. Final was worth one exam and students were not informed until last minute that we had one. Not on syllabus.
I took Prof Chan for his 6 wk summer term online, he is so professional & incredibly caring about his students' success & understanding & passionate about the subject. His thoroughness on the zoom call (recorded with transcripts) is great with everything you need to know, explained for the tests. He even arranged a guest speaker. Highly recommended
Professor Chan is the worst "teacher" I have ever had. Instead of teaching you material and having the book reinforce it, he has the book teach you and he reads word for word his pre-hand written notes in a 3 hour lecture. He is very hard to understand, and his accent doesnt help one bit. Assigned 60 pages of a textbook for one night on the 1st day
Horrible. Took him last semester. Doesnt teach at all. Expects you to know everything he is talking about when he has never taught any of it. Rude to students and you cant understand what he is saying due to his accent.
Professor Chan really cares about his students. His lectures are not mandatory and he records and posts them. His lectures are very helpful and informative. There are 1-2 assignments every week and a short exam once a week. His class isn't hard if you watch the lectures and do the work.
If u want an easy A take this class. Graded by quizzes and tests, which would all be easy if you watched his lectures. Replies fast and helps with any problem u have. He also gave extra credits and many tips. Great Professor!!!
One word- TERRIBLE. He is a nice guy, but he DOES NOT TEACH AT ALL! He just talks for 3 hours and expects you to know everything. Dont take him.
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this professor. Extremely difficult to understand, impossible quizzes, and very unhelpful.
I didnt like his teaching mathod. The exams doesnt come from the materials he gives.
Extremely tough grader, hard to have good communication with, hard to understand, class should be easy to pass, but with this professor it's only 10x more difficult.
No study guides and makes wording on tests and quizzes confusing. If you want to have your head in a book all week take this class, if not this is not for you.
This class had some kf the hardest tests I have ever taken -they are super confusing and written poorly. He assigns large amounts of textbook reading per week but most of the questions are based on his lectures which are 3 hours long or are based on things we werent taught.. He does give extra credit so DO IT and watch the lectures
This guy likes to change the amount of points the final is worth, on the last day of class...
As much as I enjoyed his lectures, the wording on the tests was difficult to understand sometimes. Every question has a "none of the above" and/or "all of the above." It doesn't help an overthinker like myself. Nice guy and very funny. I just didn't like the test questions.
His characteristics is knowledgeable but unforgiving. Late assignments? No credit. He is the type of professor your highschool teachers warned you about. One or two poor assignments can cost you your A. Still where there is a will there is a way, its not hard to pass this class, you just cannot afford to screw up. Start a discord, utilize community
Prof Chan definitely doesn't accept late work which can be frustrating and also the wording on his quizzes and tests but I realized too late that all I had to do was watch his lectures and i would've gotten a higher grade. As long as you listen to his lectures then you'll be good because everything he talks about are always on the quizzes/tests.
Professor Chan was a tough grader with a very tough grading and late work policy. However, he gives great feedback, especially if you email him, and his lectures have everything you need to know.
If I didn't have access to a student group chat like discord, I would've only passed with a B. His class is okay, gave only an assignment and a quiz/exam per week. But he does not include a lot of material to work with so PLEASE use his lecture videos and create a group chat!! Do not miss assignments, an easy B but do well on tests for an A.
He's a tough and unforgiving grader, and I mean tough! I wish I knew that going in. He takes off full points for a small error on a question, even if you get the answer right. If you want a flexible, understanding professor, then don't take this class.
Great guy, but don't take this class unless you are ready to watch 4 hour lectures every week and have an exam every week as well. Only take if you are genuinely interested in Micro econ.
You can easily get a B in this class if you just do the work. HOWEVER, he is an extremely nitpicky grader (by far among all the professors I've had at SMC). He doesn't overload you with work and the pace is actually pretty good. I'd take a better professor if one is available but if not your not SOL with him it will just be tough grading wise.
I took both ECON 1 and 2 with Professor Chan and I want to say that his grading sucks. His test always have mistakes in them and he regrades them of just confuses the answers by putting 2-3 right answers to a question while marking only one right. His lectures are great, I trully learned a lot, but the tests every class really got me.
Professor Chan is a sweet guy and you can tell he loves what he does, but he is really confusing and not the best teacher. His exams are very wordy and somewhat difficult to understand, and there are often mistakes in them. He is also an extremely DIFFICULT grader, literally the hardest ever. If you already know econ its fine but if not don't take
3 hour lectures, terrible written exams that make no sense. This is a last resort professor so please prepare for the worst.
Lots of reading required, be prepared for 8 hours of review per day a week before the major assessments to get an A. Strict grading and not accepting of late work, even if you have a decent excuse. His exams had typos in them as well. Overall, an A is achievable if you give it everything you have but check the grade distribution before enrolling.
Not good at time management or communication. Could be me more clear, frank, to the point and helpful when needed.
Do not take hi online class. Even if you enrolled in one of his ONLINE classes he will drop you if you do not attend in-person lectures for an equivalent class. If you are looking for a totally online class that you can adjust to your schedule DO NOT TAKE HIS.
I took him for econ 1 and 2 and got a B and A. Super friendly guy. There are definitely easier econ professors at SMC but he is not too difficult. Not much homework. Grade is mostly based on quizzes and exams. Watch his lecture videos very closely and take notes on them. Exams are based off the videos. Some typos on exams that are kind of funny.
Don't take him
Too difficult
Don't take this Professor. Trust me. He wasn't even there for half the semester, he was on vacation. No make ups or extra credit assignments
Exams are multiple choice only. But he MAKES EXAMS DIFFICULT. YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE EVERYTHING JUST TO PASS!
If I could give a warning for any professor it would be him. DO NOT TAKE. Took 6 weeks online for Econ 1 and it was horrible. Based on two quizzes and a homework assignment a week. Wrote his own book to buy and it came with mistakes and not in textbook form. His questions do not make sense. I do not know a single person in that class that did well.
To be clear, Chan requires students to read the course material, he just doesn't think it's worth grading: 0 points for reading. I wonder why he believes that a videotaped "meet and greet" is worthy of 5 points when the class doesn't require video conferencing. This is a class, not a casting call. The economics department here is not stellar. Drop.
There are lots of grammatical issues throughout his assignments. He also posts recordings of Zoom lectures from covid as his lecture resources. They are not concise. It is 2+ hours each of students talking over each other. If you expect any additional help, you won't get it here. Furthermore, you have to buy his textbook. Would not recommend.
Professor Chan's class is tough, but with consistent effort and using resources like class videos and study groups, you can do well. The exams are difficult but manageable. Unstuckstudy AI proved a helpful tool for my exam prep.
Friendly, funny, and knows his stuff. That being said he is not understanding, and will not give leeway. A self-taught class, but requires you to be in person to take the online exams. Misleadingly schedules exam times in canvas but will end class an hour + half early and edit the exam time to catch students who are running late. A waste of money.
Mandatory $100 textbook that was used twice… if that. First day you will have to take a quiz and if you do not have the textbook you will fail. Constant typos etc on homework and tests. Does not open tests/quizzes to allow students to see what they got wrong. Very knowledgeable guy, but does not seem to care about his students at all.
He's a good professor but is an unapologetically tough grader and doesn't seem to care about his students' grades. I recommend choosing a better professor, but he isn't the worst.
This professor doesn't care about his students at all. Very hard class, very hard exams, very hard assignments. Doesn't want to give any extra credit at all
I had Professor Chan for an 8-week hybrid course in fall 2024. He was a solid and funny teacher and his lectures weren't too hard to follow along. However there was a lot of work. Get ready to read the loose-leaf textbook if you want to succeed on tests. Every week was at least 1 test, very stressful, but then again it was an 8-week course.
This class is easy if you just pay attention. I took an 8 week macroecon course. Every class he would lecture the unit that's on the test, as we would take the test during the last portion of class. You can't make those up so make sure you're in class. Easy homework. He's funny enough to help get through the class. Grades homework off accuracy.
Prof Chan is a funny and nice guy, and though he is very intelligent as a teacher you may want to look elsewhere. His classes are 3+ hours long, his lectures are nearly just as long, made us buy a $100+ book that could all have been found online, difficult to talk to, and genuinely gives very hard tests and assignments.
Good teacher, very straight to the point during lectures, and doesn't waste time. Classes are an hour and 30 of lecture followed by a 30-minute quiz/test. If you take this class, beware of how hard the subject is and how little he helps. Take your free days off the schedule to study material in depth. Most difficult college class I've taken.
He is very organized and nice, but it is not an easy course for Econ 1. His recorded lectures are long and understandable, but the quiz/exam are usually harder. His grading is also strict - if an answer is wrong then its fully wrong, no partial credit usually. In my opinion, it is a hard class and make sure you have time for it.
If you're not a Econ major don't take this class; don't take his class if you're an over-thinker. Professor Chan is okay, you'll have to email him to see he really cares but otherwise make sure you pass assignments, tests with maximum points otherwise you're cooked. I found AI to be helpful for this class and honestly was THE reason I passed.
So, Mr. Chan was pretty strict but if you show him that you really care he'll help you out. I got an A even though I had 88% but I really did good on the final. Just learn and learn a lot. I ll take econ 2 with him
Prof Chan, was a really nice and accessible professor, he graded homework assignments super fast, the course it's self if a little confusing, but with extra help from him or a tutor it is manageable.
8 week hybrid course, confusing grading, very strict with test dates, told us 5 mins before the final that it was actually worth more points than he previously told us. It's hybrid but 4 weeks in he sent an email that all exams are now in person so the next one would be 3 weeks of material, to then take it back about 10 mins later. Last resort only
he is a very kind professor and tries his best to make his lectures entertaining (the lectures are roughly 3 hours long in the fall). don't skip a week of class, because he does teach things very quickly and then its on to the next. while he is very approachable and willing to help you out when necessary. not an easy A though.
AVOID at all costs! He tries to explain something in class and tests you right after so you have no time to even process the information. His pre recorded lectures which he recorded with android headphones during the pandemic are hard to understand and honestly useless. The mandatory book is as helpful as his pre recorded lectures.
Is Professor Chan strict? Yes. But is he a funny guy who tries to make the class as enjoyable as possible? Absolutely! If all you want is an easy A with no effort, then Professor Chan's class isn't for you But if you're willing to put in the hard work, his class will actually prepare you for your next Econ classes. He's a great professor to take!
