Good and Clear. But hard.
very tough, but really good examples
Make things easy to understand, great teacher!
teaches you what you need to know! Fair and challenging!!!
cool prof, do problems, teaches only important topics
A++ prof... make a difficult course understandable... good teaching style..
great approach to teaching .. does a lot of sample questions

He is a cool prof! He's a nice guy! His tests are hard though!
Makes concepts easy to understand! Claims his tests are fair : He lies!
Excellent teaching ability, tough exam!
A very approachable professor! Always there for his students!
Best Prof at Ryerson!
Excellent instructor! He makes sure you earn your grade!
The tests are easy, and then he gets you on the final exam.
This prof should teach every accounting course. He is that good.
He is one of the best profs I have ever had!

great prof and teaching style, sample questions help
Decent and fair prof.
Do all the Homework, study everyday, read ahead, do the labs and maybe u'll pass
Very dull, slow teacher, hard to comprehend
Doesn't know how to teach, all he does is questions. His tests are really hard
i don't like how his ****ing teaching instructors give u 16/22 when u get the question exactly right. the least they could do is tell u where u lost marks (if they know)
He lost my assignment..didn't care at all..refused to let me hand in a new one. Repeats himself a million times. Sounds like a broken record. BORING! sounds like kermit the frog.
This guy is hard to understand, repetitive, and extremely difficult even when you try hard. The tests are hard...and its killer cause you get burned by one major question worth a quarter of your exam.
Amen to the one question on the exam being with a quarter of the exam part .. yup.. u got that right.. yup.. yessiree bob.. it's true... oh so true
good explainations + lots of examples + easy assignments + decent midterm + strong accent + lots of repeating = happy student.
His tests are awful. The most questions are fair but then he put on one that was unfair since it was like a brain teaser and not a fair question to test our knowledge
Have to say the course is easy. He teaches very well, although he has a thick accent. Does lots of examples. If you do the homework, you will do fine.
Really really heavy accent, sometime hard to understand. Does a lot of examples in lecture. If you need help, he's willing to assist you. Easy assignment, descent mid terms and tough final.
He gives many examples which are helpful. THe midterm was really too easy. If anyone thinks it was hard they really shouldn't be in university. Great professor.
Class was boring but I did learn a lot. Good prof. I would definitely take another accounting class with him teaching.
He is a good teacher, better then most other accounting profs, but his accent is very strong! The midterm for the 1st section was easier then for the second section. So beware and study everything! The final however was very good, do the hw though.
excellent professor... very fair midterm...provides very good examples.... uses his own handouts rather than the textbook ...overall Mr Chan is a good professor
Very good teacher but have to get used to the accent! Tests are pretty fair!
Too easy!
Dr. Anthony Chan is an excellent professor, even though he has an accent it's very cute and he is very adorable. I would definitely jump at the chance of being in his class again! I was kind of distracted by his cuteness but that just made me go to class
Amazing prof--really handles the large-sized (L72) classes well. Much more organized than other ACC profs, he really cares about what the students are getting out of his lectures--asks for feedback all the time. Great prof!

A dedicated and competent teacher whose understanding of the subject matter and use of practical examples makes for an interesting and valuable learning exercise. I would jump at the chance to take another course with him. One of the best profs I've had!
Not a hard professor but very unfair when it comes to dealing with students. Never takes the time to give help when needed.
His accent was really thick, and it got distracting at times. He taught well, but went a bit too fast at times. He did ask for feedback, but his exam was really hard, it brought me down 2 letter grades!! :(
Very clear with instructions, ans always tries to help students in different ways. Always trying to better himself as a prof.
I found him hard and kind of boring to listen to. I just couldn't pay attention in his class.
The best prof!! I actually learned. Very clear, but you should really go to class, his notes are very good
GREAT PROF!!! Don't take any other acc prof. JUST HIM! You'll do fine in his class. He makes sure everyone understands. And he doesn't rush the material. Love you CHAN!!!!!
One of the best professor in Ryerson. He teaches very well. In fact you don't even need a text book he covers everything so well in his lecture. GREAT PROF
If you can understand him you are good to go
he's VERY thorough, great prof! He never makes jokes, but no worries, his accent provides humour to stimulate accounting. It's all about writing the practice chris(quiz)
good job chan!! taught very thoroughly... makes sure that everyone understands... compared to other acc profs.. i'd say chan's the best.. accent is thick.. but as long as he teaches well.. itz all good..!

you would think speaking english would be the first mandate of teaching at an english speaking university. mr. chan presents himself with very poor pronounciation, grammer, and awkward sentence structures. waste of money and time!
Dr. Chan is an excellent prof. He teaches very thoroughly and he answers questions to the best of his ability. One of the best parts of Chan's teaching method is that he uses many examples during his lectures. Overall, one of the best prof's around!
Great ACC prof, very clear teaching style and he provides students with great examples of questions that are similar to exam questions. I went from a B- to an A
No Comments
Extremely clear professor, that explains everything. Exams are challenging because they apply all the concepts, however, Dr. Chan prepares you quite well.
If you got his past test, you win it all.
the best prof for acc
The best ACC prof. He is really clear during lectures, and spends most of class time going over examples, which are similar to test questions. I actually enjoyed going to class.
A great guy. He was helpful and very clear. His tests were awesome... not too complicated.
If you hate accounting you won't do well with him, ACCOUNTING SUCKS, it is for computers to do
Patient, takes time to explain things well, moves at a good pace, exams and test are very fair. great pfof!
The ideal prof when it comes to explaining concepts and teaching. YOu have a clearer understanding because he is willing to take the time to explain and redo work that people do not understand. Just don't sit in the first few rows when he's lecturing...you get some weather with the new
This guy is a real ****. He is not helpful at all. If you can get past the language barrier and understand what he is saying, maybe you will get a decent grade. Worst prof I have so far.

BEST BEST ACCOUNTING PROFF EVERRRRRR!! SERIOUSLY CANT GET ANY BETTER!
Great Prof- teaches thru past test questions, so totally prepared for the exam; a heavier emphasis on application (than pure theory) but teaches the theory from the application. Well recomended - he'll prepare you nicely for the exam; as usual, the time and effort to pass is up to you.
To all those people who uses his thick accent to blame themselves for p**s poor performance- Get a grip. This is T.O, everyone has an accent of sorts - Chan is perfectly understandable. Find something more credible and responsible to blame for not understanding the subject. Nobody likes a complainer
Anthony chan is a great prof. Easily understandable, his teaching methods makes the course more easy, his handouts are really helpful and they portray what you expect in his exam. Overall, a great prof.

Worst excuse for a prof- what a shock compared to my previous ACC instructor(Olynik). Does not explain the concepts underlying the formulas, only instructs militarily writing FAST on a projector sheet. Wonder who voted him CEinstructor of year-BY ALL MEANS-he is a disgrace for Ryerson.Don't waste$$!
Disrespectful to his students when going over assessments. Got killed on final on his mess up (went in with 84, dropped me to 50s). Refused correction of the issue, offered no help. No proper arguments, just insults. Getting a nice fat appeal + behavioural complaint. If you want a decent prof that respects his students, he isn't the way to go.
Anthony gives handouts that are supposed to help us, but NO SOLUTIONS. How can we know if we're doing the right thing without solutions??? And with tests, he will not give solutions directly, but we have to go to the library to get them. Many of us may not have time to do this, like myself, so I found that to be very annoying.
AMAZING. If you want good feedback, read this. All the other ppl below me did not take notes in his lectures, he gives FULL solutions to the questions in his lectures, EASY EASY marker. MAKE SURE u do/understand ALL the questions he assigns b4 the midterm & exam and u will DO GREAT. I got an A+ and it was a piece of cake. Take em as a prof fo sho!
The good: teaches from past exams, midterms fair. The bad: hard marker, only provides 1 copy of midterm soln’s in library, hard final, no personality (rigid, icy, robotic), rude to students one-on-one. Overall: u will learn what u need to know for exams, but he's no fun to learn from. Seems like just a job to him, doesn’t care about students.
Hard at midtests and final.Hard marker. Does not care about students.fast pace in class.final was hard and different than in class assignments or even tests.work like computer,no personality.try to avoid him.
he is the worst accounting teacher that i have.Emotional scarring may fade away, but that big fat F on your transcript won't
Best accounting prof I ever had, he explains everything until you understand, responds well to questions, and has good handouts. You have to go to every class though, and take notes. Memorize his hand out questions, pay attention, and it's an easy A.
He's one of the best acc profs at Ryerson. Every example he went through was in detail. Midterm was alright, final was difficult, but fair, and everything was based of his in-class examples. If you take notes, you're gonna do well. Simple as that.
Very lenient marker. Chose the easiest question for the hand in assignment to bump up the class average. Midterm and finals were very fair and do-able. Lectures can be boring but the examples he does in class are a MUST HAVE.
Chan is great. Even tho there is a language barrier, he still teaches the material VERY WELL. His old test examples for weekly handouts are a great source for learning/help. Don't get scared by his accent. It's entertaining in class when people mock it. He is easier than other ACC406 profs.

Really good prof. Does not waste time with pointless course material, but instead does tons of examples. The examples are great and help understand the course, as well, are similar to midterm and final questions. He is a little hard to understand at times but you can get by. Best prof for acc406.
To say that he is a good prof would be a lie. Get into a class where your prof actually speaks english and isnt so ambiguous in terms of coarse material. do yourself a favour.
YOU WILL WANT TO KILL YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE THIS CLASS WITH HIM... CANT UNDERSTAND A WORD HE IS SAYING. KEEPS YOU THERE UNTIL 9:30 P.M. ON THE DOTTTT.. CAN'T READ HIS WRITING ON THE OVERHEAD.. YOU HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF THE WHOLE COURSE
his accent is hard to understand, but stupid ppl in class mock it for the ENTIRE semester..get over it already! ne ways his examlpes come in handy for the tests ect... you do have to teach yourself, but the tests and quizzes are pretty fair, he marks somewhat fairly. He's not the worst prof, but not the best either.
Professor does answer any questions out of classroom. Not very helpfull
Chan is the man!!!!...awesome awesome teacher
He is a super easy prof. He gave solutions in detail. Although students always made fun of his accent, he didn't mind but laughed together. If you don't understand anything, feel free to talk to him, as he does try his best to explain it over and over again, even he has the language barrier. Btw, I got an A+ in this course!
Okay prof, but his classes rrly boring! everyone is fallin asleep except for him...he givs enough examples for u to study for tests n explains quite well..but better bring a laptop or sumthing entertainin to class coz u gon fall asleep if u dunt!
he does not help during his office hours.
wow..... how boring can you make accouting..... dolla... dolla....
An incredible teacher. He goes over every single problem, step by step in class. Just write everything he does, repeat each of the 25+ problems twice, A guaranteed. This is a hard course made easy by one of the best Prof's in Canada.
good proff. Just go to class and study his lecture notes you're safe
Stupid!! I hate Him, He is confusing, even if you know the material before the class you'll end up getting confuse with his lecture!!! But seems he is better than his colleagues!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first i freaked because i thought there was no way i could understand him, but he is a good prof. The textbook isn't really any good - his classes are what will save you, as are his handout questions, as they are very similar to the midterms and the final...although the final is a tad harder than the midterms...still though - he is a good prof!
Good prof...haven't had his midterm yet but his handouts are good and i don't need to refer to the book to understand the chapter's point
2 teachers teach this class and he is the better one.Just go to class and sit in the front row.Copy everything he says and re-do his handouts on your own.The exams are very similar to his handouts.Overall he is good
Gives you lots of examples/model answers, if you study those, midterms and final should be a piece of cake.
He's one of the best Accounting profs at Ryerson. His teaching style is helpful, though some people complain about his accent. His class can be boring, but it all comes down to your own effort. I think it's not a super hard course, I got a decent grade.
His handouts are your tool to do well on the midterm and final as well. however, it was an extremely boring lecture.Anyways, he is an ok and nice prof though. If u r not gonna be major in ACC and want to survive in this course, taking him is a wise chioce.
He is an awesome prof, i would recommend taking him. Just go to class and do his handouts!
I had him in dayschool, and dropped, took him in the spring n did very well. Focus on his handouts only, the txtbook is garbage. Midterms in spring are easy. Talk to someone who had him in the past his notes stay exactly the same and midterms are similar. Good prof, just pay attention to when he speaks, his accent is bad.
He is an amazing prof. Just go to class.. pay attention and work on only the problems he does in class and you will do amazing.
best prof in ryerson. EASY! Take ACC406 with him
Good prof. Keep on taking notes - tests are based on them. Keeps assigment average around 70-79%. Final was hard though.
Work Hard, Got thick accent..
Anthony was extremely helpful. He is a great and funny professor. Frankly saying textbook sucks. Financial Acct. textbook was fine and clearly written, but Management Acct. – not and it is not only my opinion. If you don’t have enough time to learn, my advice is just concentrate of professor’s explanations.
His hand-outs are very helpful. He explains everything in details. His pace is fine for almost everybody. He is that type of professor that really wants to help students. He is a professor for almost 20 years, and he has great experience in teaching.
Two midterm exams were mostly straight forward – and I thought that final would be like that, but final was difficult, there were some tricky questions, one or two problems I just couldn’t understand what I need to do, but I’ve just done as much as I could. I talked with few students and they were slightly shocked after exam. Be prepared.
Probably someone can say that his lectures are a little bit bored, but if are focus on passing the exam and you are going to work in this field and use your knowledge you won’t be bored, because his lecture contains all helpful information that you need. He is professional.
I am an immigrant and I had some fears about understanding the professor, but he speaks so clearly and slowly, that everybody could understand. Besides he knows how to amuse students, and he has very funny accent.
ANTHONY CHAN CAN TEACH ACCOUNTING TO A MONKEY. ENOUGH SAID. CHAN THE MAN
I would say that for the later year management accounting course he is overall a good prof. However I could say that in terms of the 803 management accounting he from my perspective is missing out on how cases should be done right. Other then that he is okay (although his English can be sometimes trickly to understand)
His notes make the textbook completely useless. It is not hard to get a good mark as long as you work on the question yourself. His notes only get you understand the concept...the way he arranges and evaluate the group project is annoying
He repeats himself a lot, which is a good and bad thing. You shouldn't miss anything important, but lectures get boring because of it.
It's weird how I understand management accounting more than ACC 100, since Chan explains the material nice and slow. The handouts really prepare you for midterms. Prof Chan gets to the point compare to other Acc profs who talk fast and do little exmaples in class. Midterms are not bad as long as you understand the concepts explained in class
Chan is a good professor. The only problem was that the final was really difficult. It was suppose to be 8 calculation questions and some M/C and T/F, but it turned out that the m/c questions had mostly calcuation questions whuch means that you get no part marks for showing your work. The handouts help but must understand cocepts behind them.
only take acc406 with chan!! he really wants his students to do well, and basically his midterms are based on questions done in class. The final was extremely hard though, but i think he bell-curved because there would be no way i'd get a B from that final which i thought was a for-sure fail.
IF you want a good mark in acc406, then take Antony Chan. His teaching style is better than every other acc prof. Notes are clear and easy to understand. He takes up questions so you will understand the concpets. IF you want a good mark on the mid-term, just keep doing the handout questions. Final was a bit hard, but if you study, you can get an A
Anthony Chan is one of the best professors! Materials were easy to understand because of his teaching style! If you do your work, you will do well in the course. GREAT PROFESSOR!
I really like him, he tries to be funny. lectures are boring but interesing
After reading all the reviews, Chan is a fair professor compare to other acc profs I had. His notes definately helped me clearify the important concepts. The final exam was hard but it was acutally a fair exam after he took it up with me. Make sure you really understand the concepts and not memorize the handouts since the final is not like his note
Very nice and friendly professor.
This guy has the worst accent! You can't understand anything he says. His exams aren't that hard but he's a very anal marker and makes you lose senseless marks.
Obviously the guy below probably flunked or dropped the course. Anthony Chan is a great professor he knows what hes talking about and his tests aren't hard at all.
Anthony Chan is the best Accounting professor at Ryerson. His teaching style is extremely effective due to the fact that he does numerous examples during class. His tests are fair and very straightforward with little to no surprises.tricks to them. I recommend Anthony Chan especially if you have no accounting experience as he is very helpful.
Great Professor. I took ACC 406 with Anthony Chan and I ended with a C-. It wasn't any fault of his. He uses numerous examples in each of his lectures that help to make the material understandable. You have to attend all the classes and read before going to class.
There's no reason why you can't ace this course if you put a little effort into it and go to all his classes. He's very clear, uses so many examples, and he's enthuastic about what he teaches. Very helpful and funny! Try and take accounting with him if you can.
great prof, sure he has an accent but it's nothing out of this world... speaks very SLOWWWW! but very clear :) which is great!!! but don't expect to have any short classes at all! each class is a full 3hrs final exam can throw u off a bit, but if u attend all his classes u should be set cus he does soooo many examples in class!
Great professor. You gotta print out the handouts before coming to class, otherwise you won't catch up.
Great prof, explains everything crystal clear, tests are very reasonable. Study and you can do well
the final for this term was unbelievable hard. NOT like what he said " not too easy, not too hard" Test 1 & 2 always has some questions are supper easy. BUT not in the Final! We also have one student pass out during the exam. (not sure if he is faking it ...) but over all... im sure the class average will be drop down a lot by this final exam.
dr. Chan is a good instructor overall but not fair when it comes to final exams - the most important part of the course. What has been thought and practiced in the class can differ significantly in format, volume and clarity than what you will see at the finals - setting up many to fail! dr. chan needs to help students not only with the content of
Easy and helpful prof; Both Tests are very straight forward and can have an A by mid-term. Final came from outer space and was nothing at all like course material; be ready and do all the hard q's from txt. Brought mark down a lot but overall; still the guy to take.
Great Prof up until the final exam. Midterms were fair and did well on both. Went into the final exam with an A+ hoping to maintain that grade. When I received the final exam, it was NOTHING like what he had taught us in class/midterms. Was enjoying this class until the final exam and felt like he was purposely making us fail.
agree with the last comment. everything was perfect until the final. i feel like he purposely made the course 2 tests and a final so you have no chance to drop it (first test=easy A+...second test easy A) so you think you're getting at least a 4.0 leaving the course...but he pulls a fast one
Not a good teacher! booo
People should be graceful that he marked the first two tests very easy. However he did make the final very hard. Overall, he emphasizes concepts just go to class and do not take him for granted.
Not a very good prof. Writes hand-written notes instead of powerpoints. Going through homework is useful, but to only go through homework and handouts is not useful. Not a easy prof to understand. Test was unlike anything covered in class.
Smart, and teaches all you need to know for exams. It is up to the student to study and understand the material. Typical business student attitude will not work in this class. He does well to help understand but most students don't pay attention and complain later.
His notes and practice questions were extremely helpful. He made the class interesting and that is quite difficult for a boring course such as accounting. Final was easier than midterms.
Very good prof for this course. You should attend class since he makes his own detailed notes. No PP. Both midterms were easy, while the final was easier than I expected. Ended up with A+. Repeats key points over and over which is excellent. Take Acc406 with no one other than Anthony Chan.
The first midterm was hard got 63 same as class average the second was easy got 88 but class avrg was 63. The final was very difficult and i think he bell curved it but ended up with B+. No pp but his notes are great overall hes a good proff
Extremely helpful prof who does plenty of examples in class that are reflected on his tests. A lot of people saying that his final was crazy hard, but it was mostly what he did in the review period and handouts. Might retake him upgrade my mark.
The final exam was based on what the Prof said but it was tedious because of the amount of material covered in the last weeks of the course.
he was helpful i liked how we had to take notes in class it helped me to learn alot more than just reading off of slides which i probably wouldnt read when i get home
Go to class, he does a lot of examples. He is a tough marker on tests and exams though, and doesn't give any hints on what will be tested, vs other profs that do. You will learn the material from him, but you won't get a good mark.
Take his notes , use his notes and textbook questions to study .A little strict on marking but overall tests and exam are fair. Would recommend
His lectures were absolutely no help. It is hard to understand him and I found that watching quick YouTube videos helped my understanding more. I learned only from videos and the textbook and ended up with an A. Went only to his review sessions to get hints on test questions. Overall, don't take!
Accounting is a hard course, but Anthony takes the time to teach his students. I found it easy to follow along, and the tests were fair. You'll need to understand the concepts to pass the course!
Pretty good for accounting, course is challenging overall, only thing annoying is he posts nothing online and his notes are hand written so hard to copy down.
This prof was not that helpful whatsoever, no power points, he would hand write notes, could not understand what he was teaching because of his thick accent. His tests were so much harder than examples he taught the class and also from the homework he assigned. Avoid this prof at all costs, not worth taking it with him.
Pros: - Great in explaining the contents in detail - Gives examples of the reality in managerial accounting - Lots of homework questions and practice questions which is useful for tests and exams - LOVES to repeat anything that is important Cons: - He does have an accent - Doesnt give much hints on what is on the tests or exams
He seems nice on the surface but I went to ask him for help and he had a 360 personality change. . His lectures are really flat which make is easy to fall asleep. Acc100 was one of m fave classes but acc406 was one of the most boring classes I ever did. I did well (exam was pretty hard tho) because I just studied the textbook.
Anthony Chan is the best prof for this course. ACC406 in general is a very tough course but this prof takes the time to explain everything in great detail and provides you with useful worksheets for practice. He has a slight accent, but overall his teaching method is ideal for this course (he makes you handwrite all your notes). +He's hilarious
He uses an overhead projector to write notes, instead of powerpoints like other accounting professors. His accent may be hard to understand at first but he tried to enunciate the words so it is clear to understand. His tests are similar to questions that are discussed in class and homework questions, so do lots of practice to get an A!
ACC406 is a pretty tough class, but I found Anthony Chan pretty straightforward in all his lectures. He doesn't use PowerPoint slides, but instead writes on the projector. At first, I thought this might be a problem, but its actually a good method for a application based class such as accounting. Know his examples and you'll be fine.
Anthony Chan is a great ACC prof! When i went to my first lecture i thought he would be really tough but i was wrong. He has amazing notes and his tests are straightforward. He doesn't surprise you with questions you've never seen before. As long as you go to all his classes and pay attention you will definitely do well.
Anthony Chan for me personally is A+ prof. His accent may be in a way at first, but once you get used to it he is amazing. He writes his notes instead of giving powerpoints (which I find much better), and gives lots of examples. Examples are really similar to the tests. Midterms were overall I think very fair, but do not mistaken this for easy A.
He shows us how to complete questions from the textbook for each chapter and he also provides handouts each week and actually completes majority of them in class. Tests are usually very similar to all handouts and questions done in class. But you still need to put in a good amount of effort into understanding the material. Great class overall!
The best part about this professor is his extensive knowledge on regarding the course, very long class hours and concentrated, so kinda stressful yet if you are looking to work hard and get good grades, this professor is the way to go!
Anthony Chan was a fair professor. Do not skip any of his classes because all the notes are essential to passing his class. His midterms and exam are fair because you need to do the work to get the mark. I failed this class and took it again with him, glad I did because I actually learned a thing or two about managerial accounting.
He's class are not too interesting, but then again it is accounting. Overall I think he explains the contents very well and a very easy marker.
His explanation of the technical concepts are very clear, I only wish he would explain in greater detail the concepts and why. He always states his tests are based on whether or not you understand the concepts but I don't think his explanations are that clear. He's also rather ambiguous as to what types of questions will be on tests. Fair overall.
He's a great prof, gets to the point and explains examples. Do the homework before class, that way you can understand what you did wrong. He tells you specifically to memorize formats to make it easier for yourself to remember.
Doesn't post any notes online, so you have to make notes based on his lectures (uses a projector and writes the notes by hand). The class gets really boring after 3 hours, and it sucks because you have to pay attention. Make sure you understand his handouts that he posts (print before the lecture) because they are *VERY* similar to his tests
Lectures were clear overall, his notes are handwritten so you must attend class. His tests are tough but they prepare you for the final unlike other ACC profs. The handout questions are similar to testing material but not exact - he really focuses on ensuring you understand the concept so the questions can be tricky sometimes.
Take Anthony's class.. Easily the best prof I've ever had! Yes he does hand write notes.. but he's basically writing your notes for you.
Nice prof and good choice for taking accounting with him! He marks easily and tests are easy. But try your best to attend the classes otherwise you will miss his own writing notes in classes, and his lectures are important. If you attend the class and listen carefully, do practices, you can get good grade.
Pay attention during lectures and you're solid. Tests were straight forward (class average was 75%) Exam was pretty difficult, though. He states that he does not like it when people ask him for marks at the end of the semester, but that's because he is EXTREMELY lenient when marking the tests. Part marks everywhere
He presents himself as a strict professor but he's actually a fair and lenient marker. I've struggled with accounting in the past, but had no problems in his course. Pay attention during lectures and do his practice worksheets and you should do fine.
He teaches things that are easy and makes them 10 times more hard for example the 7 equations in chapter 2 the book explains it much better than him makes it easy. The only reason why you should go to his lecture is because of his handwritten notes, all my advice is to do book work do as many questions in the book as possible and you should be fine
Lectures are very thorough and easy to follow. You will be there the whole 3 hours but you'll have really good notes. Posts handouts on the course website and then goes through them in detail the next class.
although he doesn't post notes online, his lectures consist of VARIOUS EXAMPLES to ensure you understand concepts. the 2 tests and exam are VERY VERY VERY EASY as long as you read the book and go to his lectures. take my word for this as i wasnt good at acc 100. overall, hes a 8.5/10 prof and people who say otherwise are simply lazy & dont study...
He's very knowledgeable. Just try to pay attention and ignore his slight accent. Even though his lectures are handwritten on an overhead projector, his lectures consists of good examples that will help you on the tests. However, he doesn't post his lectures online, so pay attention. I also like how he takes up homework questions.
Your first impression might turn you off because he talks about how hard the course is, but hes the head professor of ACC406 and makes the final call about whats going to be on the final exam, so thats already 1 reason you should take him. His tests are very fair and he gives a lot of part marks, go to class and listen, hes a very good teacher
Professor Chan is very dedicated to his work. He is incredibly professional but he does care about his students. He explains every concept very clearly and carefully, not a minute of his lectures are wasted time. This is one of the hardest courses in first year BM, it is advisable to choose him as your prof.
Would NOT recommend. 0/10
Makes the subject easy to learn and approachable when students ask him questions.
He was the second professor I took for ACC406 and the change was incredible. He explains every tiny detail so that his students don't miss a thing. The lectures aren't very interesting if you're not into accounting but as long as you write down everything and study, you're good to go. He teaches through examples, make sure to write those examples!
He says his tests and exams are reasonable, and it is very true, I never once felt pressured for time. Go to class, pay attention and make solid notes for the 3 hours and you will do well. I found the best way to study is to redo the questions done in class and then compare your answers to the detailed and thorough answers he provided in class
Very straightforward with the expectations for the class. His lectures are probably 20% lecture, 40% answers homework question,40% answers in class sample question. Pay attention in class, write down the answers to the examples and you'll do well. Might feel hard to pay attention in class but you'll be glad you did because he writes the exams.
Overall he was a good prof because he took up homework and really tried to explain everything in the lectures. He does have an accent so some might find it hard to understand, to do well in this course, you need to practice a lot! There was only 2 tests and the final worth 50%.
i seriously have no idea where the good reviews are from. Everyone in my class hated him. he explain simple things like its hard and the explanations were not even clear enough.
This is one of the most frustrating teachers I ever had the displeasure of working with. He doesn't seem to even like his students and it shows.
Absolutely Terrible. He only gives 1-2 questions for homework for each chapter, which does not prepare us for the exams. He uses a 3 hour lecture to explain the 2 homework questions and does it in the most unclear, confusing way possible. Stay away from him at all costs.
His lectures are boring and way longer than they need to be but beneficial since he goes through homework questions that are similar to the ones on the midterms and the exam. I would just copy the answers down and then try them on my own after class. The midterms are reasonable like he says they are but you have to put in the work.
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. You have to pay attention, or you won't do well in the course. He teaches every concept step by step in a really clear way (if you are paying attention) and all his test questions are based on what is covered in class. Copy his notes word for word, and refer back to them to answer questions.
Usually takes up homework in class so I'd recommend attending. Sometimes hard to follow, but still a decent professor.
If you have any medical conditions etc dont take this prof he will not grant makeup tests whatsoever. He did not grant me a makeup when my grandad passed away(even with clear evidence) showed general disrespect in his emails. Bone dry lectures and not comprehensive slides. any other prof is probably better
Only does 2 examples per chapter (even though he uses the full 3hrs), a lot of self study is needed. He is hard to follow at times
Do practice and homework questions in class, didn't post answers. So attend the lecture matter. Great prof overall
His tests are WAY easier than other profs, pretty much the exact same as his handouts. Lots of self-study is required, the only way to do well is to practice as many questions as you can. You'll have to go to class bc he doesn't post notes, I found it was worth it to get answers for his handouts (print these before class).
ATTEND LECTURES! He essentially does practice exam Qs during lectures and shows every step till the final answer. The first two midterms were easy, but the final exam did a number on me. No cheat sheet is tough, but if you attend class and practice after each lecture, it's an easy mark.
This class is almost purely math focused. You must do practice questions the professor gives you and textbook questions in order to understand how to solve the exam questions. Try to follow the methods the professor shows, as they are the most straightforward and easy to understand. Reading the textbook helps clarify the slides.
All those saying his midterm questions are like the ones in the hand out or homework are telling lies TRUST ME. Yes he teaches and explains very well but the exams are completely different from the questions we practice in class. The exams are almost like he is trying to make it easy to solve but honestly it just complicates it for you.
Every single practice question he did in class, was an old midterm or final question which prepared us well. Everything he taught us helped us on the midterm. If you sit down and practice the questions he assigns, and put in the effort, you can get high 80s in class. He gives partial marks if you attempt to do the question on the midterm.
prof chan is a great teacher he teaches you what is absolutely necessary in the course to succeed, he is a great teacher and explains the problems well. however you can not miss any class!!! i failed 406 the first time but with prof chan it was a different experience
You'll need to study on your own since he teaches from his own notes and doesn't use PowerPoint slides. There are two midterms (25% each) and a final (50%), all in person. His accent can be a bit hard to understand, and 8 AM classes made it tough for me, but I managed by studying independently.
Good prof. It's important to attend his lectures or you will not understand the test.
Professor Chan's class is challenging but rewarding - stay on top of the practice problems and attend lectures to succeed. Unstuck AI was a great study tool for exam prep.
TRUTH ALERT! Took this professor in the Fall2024 and ended up with an A. Here is a short story, got a 50% on Test1 and topped the finals and midterm2. Key Takeaways:- 1)Attend all his lectures or else u will fail. 2)Midterms and finals are very hard. (25%,25%,50%) 3)Buy a textbook and do all the practice questions. 4)Any questions?-IG-@k_a_beer.
Honestly I was really nervous about this course considering my track record with skipping class every single week and everyone telling me attendance is mandatory but his tests are very similar to the homework he posts so as long as you can confidently complete his homework questions you will do really well in this course
I used to tutor Korean kids who never spoke a lick of English before, have better handwriting and accent than this guy, yet he has been teaching for over 25 years?? HOW has it not improved. he spent 2 and a half hours going over 2 REVIEW QUESTIONS, and yells into the mic that's at max volume. He handwrites all his lectures, and posts none of them.
I just did test 1 for this class and whoever said his tests are like the handout questions and homework are LYINGGGGG his test was nothing like anything he went over in class it was all completely different
The professor teaches very clearly and explains all the lectures + homework thoroughly. HOWEVER, his content does not align with the exams at all! While the exams cover the same topics, they focus on completely different materials and much more difficult applications that were never covered in class.
His tests are not at all what he teaches, way more complex then the examples he goes over in class. He doesn't post slides, his handwritng is awful and his tests are extremely unfair.
This prof doesn't prepare you for anything on his tests. The material he teaches is VERY different from his tests. He doesn't explain properly and his handwriting isn't clear either. Doesn't post any of his notes. You basically have to self learn everything. Very unfair
won't help if u miss class for any reason
will not help if u miss class for any reason
not enough review questions, loud and thick accent, messy writing, “its all very looooogical” test questions are confusing and formatted differently to the homework questions he gives, 15 - 20 minutes late to every class. Equations are simple but there are so many and no cheat sheet, other profs my sem. curved grades except Chan, dont take this guy
handwrites notes with barely legible handwriting and posts none of them on d2l, when i emailed him asking if he could take pictures of his notes because i missed a class due to a snow storm, he said no because “its not my fault your bus was delayed” all it would have taken was 3 pictures btw. take anyone else
would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard for 10 hours than 10 seconds of him talking
idk how his reviews are so high, this guy is horrible, his tests are especially bad, all these reviews said they were similar to the homework are just straight up lying
Honestly a terrible professor
drags on lectures that could take half the time, i cant take his voice anymore he's so annoying, every class he ends every point with "it's all very logical" as if that clarifies what he's saying, and sometimes he just repeats himself 5 - 6 times. I can't with this man.
Horrible prof. Worst Prof to take acc406 with. You will be at a major disadvantage if you choose this prof for acc406. He makes his classes test 50x harder than the other profs. This Prof just teaches everything and says study everything. No cheat sheet. You have to memorize 100 formulas. Heavy accent, very hard to understand in class.
writes his notes wayyyyyy too fast, his class is more keeping up with him, than actually learning the content, barely legible notes too. He also doesn't post them either. Feel like he just makes the class harder for no reason.
Is this prof high?????????
Genuinely horrible, his tests are way harder than the other professors, he gives less review than the others, doesn't post any of his notes and won't send you them via email either. He barely even teaches, just goes through 2 practice questions which somehow takes him the whole class. Any other prof for acc406 is probably better
some of his favorite phrases: "it's all very logical", "the test is very reasonable", "if you are smart you will take advantage" Notice anything? Everything he says is vague and isn't quantifiable, it's his way of saying "it's not my fault its yours" with his overinflated ego. He definitely knows his stuff, but he cannot teach for the life of him.
Prof Chan lacks the fundamental understanding that students will not learn content with haphazardly done lessons that focuses on only doing 2-3 questions. He does not understand that not posting answers or notes, makes students ill prepared for exams. Due to this lack of understanding, many students will not do well or use other material to succeed
I think he's changed over the years, because the old reviews for him are nothing like what he's like today. I read a few reviews talking about clear handwriting, slow talking, and tests being like the homework questions, but none of this is true now. He talks and writes incredibly fast, his handwriting is sloppy, and his tests are very different.
My biggest issue with this professor is the little amount of practice he gives out, besides the 2-3 questions he does in class, he gives no practice midterms or final exams, I realized i needed more practice after the first midterm, but he wouldn't provide any. Super lazy prof outside of lecture do not take him
worst prof ever dont take him super rude and doesnt care about his students. I dont understand how his rating is so high other profs curved the midterm mark but he didnt not even one %. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!
good reviews on this prof are very outdated and contradict what he's like now. I don't doubt that at one point he could have been a good prof, but now he is terrible. His class is incredibly miserable I recommend avoiding him at all costs.
Exam questions are written differently than homework questions, and are written in a way that is incredibly confusing and misleading. Anthony Chan makes it a point that he will NOT teach certain ways that questions may be formatted, and I think that makes no sense, why are you purposely not teaching us how to do a certain type of question?
how is this guy even real
one of the most frustrating professor's I've had the displeasure of having. Avoid Anthony Chan at all costs his class is a nightmare. highly do not recommend I would give him a 0 if I could
would actually be a decent prof if he just had better hand writing, slower and clearer explanations for the questions he takes up, and posted any of his notes to d2l, but he makes his course harder for the sake of just making it harder. God forbid people get decent marks.
imma keep it real, don't take bro, his class is absolutely cooked.
Horrible handwriting, doesn't post solutions, and lectures are USELESS all he does is go over 2 questions and it somehow takes up 3 hours. Had to learn basically everything myself. He tells us the homework is like the tests but it's really not! He is also EXTREMELY inconsiderate with ACRs.
Extremely hard prof who doesn't care about the students. Gives terrible explanations. Had me fully stressed this semester. Worst part is his homework and review questions are completely different from exam questions, so no point of memorizing homework questions. Also thick accent. Do not take him
would rather get Chinese water tortured for 12 hours I aint gonna lie. This was such a horrible class, saw some other people doing other acc classes and theirs looked 1000x easier so take anyone else ig
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSO
If you value clear instruction, organized course material, or even just the basic expectation that your professor knows how to teach, look elsewhere. His class didn't just feel unhelpful, it felt like a complete waste of time and effort.
Hard to understand due to thick accent and yelling into the mic. No lecture notes posted, just messy handwritten notes. Exam questions were totally different from the review, me and most of my classmates felt unprepared. Overall, poor teaching style and little support for students.
I Could barely understand a thing with his thick accent and yelling into the mic nonstop. No slides posted in d2l, just messy handwritten notes that he won't send to you no matter what. midterms and exam were nothing like the review questions he gives. Felt like he made it so we were set up to fail. Absolute miserable experience.
this guys up there with Mao Zedong, this dudes handwriting is ineligible, doesn't take up most of the homework (you'll have 5 questions and he'll only answer 2 and take 3 hours doing so). You cant even ask this guy for help during the break because he runs out of the class every chance he gets. run. run far. and dont look back.
The review I just read before this sums it up pretty well, bro truly is the Mao Zedong of the accounting department. Do not take this prof, he is so lazy, barely legible notes, 15-20 minutes late to class, doesn't even show up to the midterm, doesn't even post his barely legible notes. Zero help outside class -10000/10
Studied for this class the most, and had the most diminishing returns. Absolutely horrible and lazy prof, posts no extra review questions besides the 1-2 questions each week he gives out as homework, lectures are often confusing and difficult due to messy handwriting and his accent. I learned absolutely nothing in this course -99999/10.
DO NOT TRUST THE OLD REVIEWS!!!! I trusted them and it backfired on me heavily, none of the midterm and exam questions were like his homework questions, and overall he cares very little and is super lazy throughout the whole semester.
Acc department is cursed, 1st year i had Joel Shapiro (worst prof i've had, switched out right away) and then 2nd year i had this guy (tied for worst prof). I heard the other professors are actually pretty good so try your best to take them, but avoid this guy at all costs.
Potential: 3/10 Teaching: 1/10 handwriting: 1/10 Accent: 1/10 examples: 4/10 Help outside of class: 0/10 resources on D2L: 0/10 Laziness: 9/10 Midterm question fairness: 4/10 Exam question fairness: 5/10 Grading: 8/10 (very lenient) review questions: 1/10 teach method: 1/10 cares for students: 0/10 Overall Grade: 18.57% I fail him as a prof
may god strike down Anthony Chan, 7 plagues will befall him for 7 generations if he does not repent (retire)
was reminded of this guy today and just remembered how terrible he was, try to take another prof if you can
during one of his lectures he made it a point that a university should have mid-lower scoring grades so people know the university is tough and therefore better. What? no that's not how it works at all???? if you have him I genuinely feel bad for you good luck he purposefully makes the class harder it's crazy
Just dont.
- does not give students nearly enough time to write down everything on the board before changing topics - does not post class notes in the classroom - no weekly assignments (graded on only 2 midterms and a final) - exams have fewer than 10 questions (getting one wrong makes a major impact on your grade)
Attendance is not mandatory but you're guaranteed to pass if you just show up to class as everything he goes over in class is what's on the exam.
