Dannar is a funny guy. He is stricter on speech grades than most other public speaking professors. Takes off lots of points for very picky things. Not horrible but I know there are easier teachers.
Such a fun teacher! No homework. Lenient grader! Would recommend 100%! Makes class super fun.
He's personable, super friendly, really funny, easy to meet with outside of class. You get to pick your speech topics so pick wisely. He does grade harder than some professors but he gives good feedback. Read along with the textbook so you're not scrambling at the end like I did and know your definitions. Also practice your speeches ahead of time.
He gets a lot more hate than he deserves. If you show up to class, practice your speech before you give it and make sure you do everything like formatting and including whats needed in your speech correctly, you'll do fine. Read the textbook throughout the semester like it says on his syllabus. Overall a great teacher for this class!
The class itself isn't too bad. Follows a grading rubric closely so you know what to expect for grades on your speeches. The final is a lot harder than the class itself, but the final is uniform so he doesn't have control over it. Makes classes fun and personable. Solid choice.
He is very nice, and an easy grader. Every time I just spend 30 minutes to prepare for the materials and got an A on the assignments. It is an easy A class. TAKE HIM!!
Dannar made the class fun and interesting but felt like a tough grader on the speeches. Might just be how the class works but overall a great teacher!
Easy grader and makes class super enjoyable. Didn't make below a 92 on any of the speeches. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and you will pass
Mr. Dannar is a great teacher, his lectures are interesting and engaging and he makes the class enjoyable.
Mr. Dannar is a cool professor to have for COMM 1000. He usually starts the day with the Question of the Day to get everyone's mind rolling. He constantly reminds his students about reading the textbook so you can be more prepared for it. Additionally, the grading criteria are explicitly stated out in the rubric. If you follow it, then you're good.
He was great! This class is tough. I took it as a junior, you have to do the reading in the textbook, to prepare for the final but its department wide so it's not like he makes the final hard. His lectures go right along with the book and he makes class interesting. He's funny and engaging. TAKE HIM, not an easy A but you can get one.
Mr. Dannar has easily been one of my favorite professors at Auburn. He takes what is usually a mandatory class for students and actually makes it fun and interesting. Dannar explains exactly how you can best prepare to get an A. You don't have to read the book to do well, but it helps big time for the final. Overall, 10/10 take this man's class
Professor Dannar is great! We have three graded speeches on topics of our choice and a written final exam that covers everything in the book. He's super charismatic, gives a question of the day at the start of each class that every student answers. I would definitely recommend!
Good professor and easy class. Take him for a laid back class with easy material and a great teacher.
He was a great teacher and Ive recommended him to everyone! my class ended up being really fun because it makes the environment so chill and comfortable you do need to be in class to really know how to do the speeches and get the best grade possible but he's pretty easy to talk to and flexible if you're actually trying! would take again
Professor Dannar was by far the best teacher I had this semester. He's always making class funny and chill. Lectures are good and he keeps the class involved. I hate public speaking and he made me want to come to class everyday. Attendance is recorded so go to class. Do good on your speeches and you'll be fine. Also, big Marvel Fan.
Professor Dannar was really personable, engaging, and funny. He asks a question of the day at the beginning of every class + makes a point to build a relationship with his students. However, he has very bad handwriting and it makes his feedback hard to decipher. He's also a tough grader, so make sure you practice, practice, practice your speeches.
Mr. Dannar is a great professor. He starts the class with a "Question of the Day" which makes the class comfortable and less nervous to talk in front of. He does a great job explaining what is required for each speech and is easy to access outside of needed. If you take COMM1000 take his class because it is laid back and comfortable!
Dannar is one of the best public speaking teachers. While you actually have to work for your grade, he makes it really easy to get good grades on your speeches as long as you pay attention during the lecture and he makes it really fun to be in class. Attendance is mandatory so you have to go but it's still a great class.
Dannar is the man. He makes this course very interesting and uses things like the question of the day to make the classroom a lot more comfortable to talk in. He gives one freebie for attendance but other than that attendance is required. He makes his expectations very clear for the speeches and cares about your success. I enjoyed taking him.
Dannar is a really fun teacher and a super nice guy. Grades fairly and clearly. Keep up with the textbook reading in order to do well on the final exam. He will emphasize that multiple times throughout the semester. One of my favorite classes at Auburn. Genuinely cares about his students and our success. Would take again.
i thought the subject would be a lot more interesting than it actually was. nonetheless, he was a decent professor for film history. his ppts are really not that detailed, so you have to use the tb a lot. it was discussion-heavy. the tests were okay.
Your participation grade matters, so go to class. Also he grades speeches pretty harshly. I get nervous speaking in front of the class, and getting B's on all of my speeches does not make me more confident. I thought public speaking would be easy, but it's a little tough to get an A.
Very funny and enjoyable class. But gosh he is a hard grader. Go over your speech tons of time, but even still idk if that will be enough.
Theres is only 3 grades in this class ( Exam I, Exam II, and Exam III ).... So study HARDDDD!! Attendance is not mandatory BUT it is your only chance at extra credit and filling in the notes. Overall, he is a good professor and he is really friendly. He drives from far so please respect his time and read the notes before class so you can discuss
Dannar is a very funny guy and you'll often laugh in class at his jokes. He is a pretty hard grader though. I thought public speaking would be an easy A especially with him being a pretty chill guy, but he definitely will critique everything. If you practice your speeches a billion times though you can get an A
Dannar is a great guy, teaches a great class. Im not the best at public speaking but somehow I still finished with an A. Take this class if you can, hes a fuuny dude
The attendance is mandatory since it's public speaking, but the class was always engaging to attend because of the way Mr. Dannar taught it. He knows everyone has some sort of fear about getting in front of others so he makes the class get to know one another to take some of the pressure off. By far one of my favorite professors!
I actually had him as a professor at Georgia State University. He was a great instructor! He made it important to get to know each individual student. I loved attending his classes, it was fun. He gives good feedback on your work so you can improve. I would take him again! He is also funny.
Mr. Dannar is a really funny guy and always makes class enjoyable. He understands that most people have a fear of public speaking but he structures the class so we could get to know each other better making it easier to present. He is NOT lenient with his grades though so make sure you are prepared. Really enjoyed having him this semester!
Makes the class bearable for people who don't like public speaking. Very understanding and open to questions. Take him if this is a required course for you!
Dannar is a very cool guy and wants you to succeed. He is very strict about attendance and grading so do not expect him to budge much. He knows most students fear public speaking, so he tries to make it as enjoyable as possible.
Dannar is a funny guy. He makes class enjoyable with comedy and by asking his "question of the day" during roll call. His lectures are straight out of the textbook and he often supplements them with videos. He lets class out early most of the time. This class is very manageable, and he gives you plenty of time to work on speeches. I'd recommend.
easy A just make sure you memorize your speeches.
Overall good teacher. You have to do speeches and they are in person, but that's about it. He's personable, enthusiastic, and always willing to help make your speech better.
Mr Dannar is very approachable, and tries hard to make everyone feel comfortable in his class. There is a lot of speaking, and you answer a question of the day at the beginning of every class, but it is a friendly environment. He grades strictly, but follows the rubric clearly. If you practice your speeches you'll probably do fine.
Professor Dannar is a great professor. Hes very straight forward during his lectures, and the way he grades is fair. You learn a lot in his class, and you start to get in the swing of things. Youre graded on attendance. The textbook is super helpful, and Professor Dannar goes off of the textbook for grading and formatting.
Mr. Dannar is a good teacher but can be a strict grader. Specifically, he is very strict on eye contact during speeches but overall is a good guy.
He gives good lectures because he involves his students and he keeps them interesting by incorporating different teaching styles. He values participation within the class as well as being present because he wants his students to become familiar with speaking in front of others. Speech: you need to follow his rubric and textbook formatting to excel.
Mr. Dannar is a really fun guy and his lectures are entertaining. You give four speeches in the semester and those are your only graded assignments aside from one group project he gives to help boost people's grade. He does grade somewhat tough, but he tells you exactly what he is looking for in your speech beforehand.
Class is optional but there is an attendance grade. I skipped a lot but my grade was still pretty good. Mr. Dannar is pretty chill and his class was simple.
Great teacher. Nobs. You get the grade that you deserve. He goes directly off the rubric.
Mr. Dannar is truly an amazing professor, I would 100% recommend taking him. He is very easy to reach as well as makes lectures fun. He is very clear in his grading and allows you to ask questions bout your grade. You get to know your classmates as well in his class. Best public speaking professor!!!
Strict, but nice. If you get the outline perfect and have sources you can still make a B even if you dont speak perfect.
Dannar is a charismatic and knowledgeable professor. He teaches a class that is very standardized and makes it less monotonous. Class rarely lasts the full 50 minutes and the first 15-20 are taken up by the question of the day. He offers good feedback on speeches as well. Dannar is a great guy who cares about his students and class.
I took this class based on his other reviews and I say DO NOT TAKE HIM! He often tried to guilt trip students into getting vaccinated however, we were not allowed to do speeches on similar topics as to not stray from the focus of this class. His in class group busywork was nearly pointless and made the mandatory attendance even more unbearable.
I took Professor Dannar's COMM1000 as my fifth attempt at a public speaking class (quite the phobia) and no human is more fit to teach this class than Tony is. He requires students to answer an impromptu "question of the day" at the start of class as an alternative to calling roll, big help with getting used to speaking in front of your classmates.
Good professor for a public speaking class but attendance is mandatory which is a bummer. Because you could get an A in the class even if you skipped most lectures.
Mr. Dannar was a good professor. He did what he could to make the class interesting and engaging. Although, I did feel like he graded a but harshly.
He is very clear about what he wants for each assignment and how he wants it. He gives you the grading rubrics so you know exactly what he is looking for. I thought his grading was a little harder, but it helped me to improve and work harder in the class.
I was scared to take public speaking, but professor Dannar made the class comfortable and enjoyable! You have to come to class everyday, but that makes giving your speeches and participating with other classmates a lot easier. Everyone in my class was comfortable with each other because we participated in group projects and questions of the day.
Mr. Dannar is a great instructor! He always makes class fun and does a question of the day which pertains to yourself so everyone feels included without having to answer something they may not know. he is very enthusiastic and makes the dreadful action of giving a speech a lot less stressful!
Mr. Dannar creates a very welcoming environment in class. He starts every class with a question of the day which allows you to become more comfortable with the other people in the class. He does allow for some group projects and one that is graded. He is a tough grader, but if you stick to the rubric getting a good grade isn't too hard.
Mr. Dannar was great for COMM1000 and made the class bearable. He has an obvious niche for public speaking which was encouraging for students. The class is not easy; attendance is strict and he is a pretty tough grader. He is not great at responding to emails. I sent him multiple emails throughout the semester and never received a response.
Mr. Dannar is very welcoming by doing a question of the day every day that gets students more comfortable with the class. He is a tough grader on speeches, but he does give you a rubric for each assignment that is helpful when preparing.
Really good at making the class feel comfortable with speaking in front of each other. But graded the speeches too harshly.
Really just show up to class and ur golden
As someone who hates public speaking Mr. Dannar made the class bearable. He makes class fun with question of the day. Also, he told us that he eats 11 eggs a day for breakfast! He's very particular with grading, but if you use the textbook for the outline, you'll be good. He's tough on delivery, so practice your speech as much as you can.
He does a question of the day which is really fun. As long as you put in minimal effort and practice your speech before hand you should do fine. He is very funny and makes class interesting.
Has a question of the day to start every class. A lot of fun during the lectures and usually let out of class 5 to 10 minutes early every day.
Professor Dannar has been one of my favorite professors thus far. He does a great job at creating a fun environment in the classroom that also encourages participation. There are four speeches and one exam for this class, and for each of the speeches, he is fair and follows the rubric provided to you beforehand but is a tough grader. 9/10
Professor Dannar is an awesome choice for comm 1000! Since the class is mandatory, you should do yourself a favor and take him. He makes an uncomfortable topic fun and regularly provides opportunities for students to interact and get to know each other in a fun, comfortable environment.
Very clear rubrics to follow for grades, strictly grades based off of it, he was so funny and I loved his question of the day
Awesome teacher, When I started I was scared of public speaking, but over the course he really makes you come out of your shell and get comfortable with speaking by interacting with the class and asking questions of the day. He gives a rubric and grades strictly by that rubric. Great Teacher overall.
Engages with students and makes the class enjoyable
Mr. Dannar definitely cares about his students and gives ample explanation to what to expect for each speech. He asks a question of the day which makes the class interactive. He is a fair grader and is willing to discuss why you got the grade that you did. Overall, Mr. Dannar is a great teacher and you should take his class!
I loved Professor Dannar, he's a super chill guy and very funny. He always starts class with a question of the day and it's always my favorite part of my day. I would 1000% take him again!
I had multiple issues with this class, some of which were admittedly not Mr. Dannar's fault. But the bottom line is that I don't feel like I learned anything from this class. He caters to a very specific learning style, and it just didn't work for me. He says otherwise, but he's a harsh grader. There is no reason to grade an into class so strictly.
This course was not the best for me. Professor Dannar and I did not see eye to eye on grading. He is the kind of professor who believes that an A is only for exceptional work and he hands them out very very rarely. It is a good class if you're looking for a solid B/C but if you do not want your GPA to be affected look for another professor.
Dannar is very strict on attendance. Other than that, you only have grades for the 3 speeches and the final exam. That means if you do bad on one speech, your grade is screwed.
Speeches might be tough but preparing ahead and asking questions or for feedback will definetly help. Don't be nervous to ask questions.
Professor Dannar cares a lot about his students and genuinely enjoys teaching. Although he is a tough grader, he is more than willing to meet with you and discuss how to improve. He is a great professor overall!
He is a very respectful and understanding teacher. Gives a good layout in the syllabus of what is expected of us and sticks to it. Makes class enjoyable and lightens up the mood everyday. Would highly recommend taking his class!
Professor Dannar was a great professor. You definitely have to put in the work if you want a good grade, so if you get an A it is well earned. I think he grades fair and gives good feedback. He is super funny and makes class fun through participation and group work. Attendance is mandatory so try to get a good time, aka not 8am. Overall great class
Prof. Dannar was a great professor to have for COMM 1000. He is known as a tough grader, and he makes that clear on the first day of class. While he grades tough, he is very fair. He lets you know exactly what he's looking for in his speeches. Definitely would take again.
He is a great teacher. The speeches are the main grades of the class, but if you follow the rubric and outline you will be fine.
I loved the question of the day he gave at the beginning of each class. Attendance is required though and you only get one skip the whole semester after that attendance affects your grade. He is a very harsh grader so you really have to practice and prepare for each speech. There is only one extra credit opportunity.
Loved this class! It was overall fairly easy, as long as you read the textbook you will know exactly how to do your speeches. There are 3 speeches, which is not bad at all, and a final from the textbook, and extra credit points you can get from going to the public speaking competition. I would recommend taking him, he was great!
Mr. Dannar is a tough grader, but he genuinely wants everyone to succeed. If you want just a mindless A in this class, I wouldn't recommend him, because he makes you earn an A. But if you want to get better at public speaking, this is your guy.
Very good teacher
Mr. Dannar is definitely a tough grader when it comes to speeches, however, if you follow the outlines in the book, then you will be just fine. He does question of the day each class which is definitely a good way to get comfortable with the class. If you are a strong public speaker, then I recommend this teacher.
He grades speeches pretty hard but as long as you practice the speech multiple times you will be fine. He makes class interesting and often lets you out of class early.
Professor Dannar is hilarious and his class is enjoyable. However, he is a ridiculously hard grader. If you are not good at Public Speaking and you do not want to get better, I would recommend someone else because he grades very harshly. If you want to get better at it though, he is the person for you. Don't get on his bad side though!
Professor with clear expectations on how everything is graded. Does a question of the day for roll call that gets the whole class more comfortable with each other which is almost vital for this course. Don't let "tough grader" fool you, if you can outline a speech and practice a few times you'll get by just fine.
This class is very enjoyable to attend and he always starts with a great question about that day. A very tough grader but gives excellent feedback. If you attend his office hours he will give you even more detailed feedback and how you can fix this for your future speeches. One problem with the class is that the final is over the textbook.
He is a tough grader so practice your speeches a lot before hand. He does a question of the day each day to start the class and is a great way for you to get comfortable for the class. He gives one extra credit opportunity!
Personally would not recommend him for COMM 1000. Don't let the stellar reviews fool you, he is very difficult to work with, docking grades even with an approved excuse and public embarrassment bring him joy. He 100% is a hard grader and his grading is not just rubric based but off his own ideals and he brags about it constantly. Get out now!!
Very clear on grading. not a hard class per say, do the bare min and you will have a good grade.
Dannar is personable & funny. He does grade strictly, but he gives you the rubric to follow when writing your speech, so if you follow the rubric you'll do fine. You do only get one unexcused absence before your grade is affected, and it can be hard to calculate your grade during the semester (but thats a COM 1000 thing, not a Dannar thing).
The course is structured so that if you don't do good on the speeches you won't receive a good grade. Despite this Professor Dannar gives you a clear rubric for each speech that if you follow leaves the rest of the grading up to your delivery. Professor Dannar is a tough grader when it comes to your delivery. Other than that he is great.
There's only 3 speeches you have to do in the semester. There's one exam at the end of the semester. Questions of the day for attendance that are fun and engaging. Lectures aren't too boring and he asks lots of questions. He is always willing to help you with your speech. Can have speech notes with you. He's a great professor!!
Professor Dannar was a good teacher. Enjoyed his questions of the day and high energy.
He is a good teacher but his grading was incredibly inconsistent. I got the same grade on a speech I wrote the night before and felt terrible about as I did a speech I prepared a lot for and nailed the delivery on. He is very outgoing and makes class interesting but he took off a lot of points for small aspects of the speeches.
Super great teacher. Really enjoyed his comm1000 class. If you take him, you HAVE to attend class...especially on speaking days. If you don't your grade will suffer to the extreme.
Mr. Dannar is very funny and super easy going. He is a great teacher and makes it clear exactly what is needed of you to succeed. This class requires preparation before giving a speech and he even gives you the first speech as a freebee to get up there and practice in front of your peers without it hurting you.
Incredibly enthusiastic/entertaining teacher who truly cares about the material he is teaching. Though he is a tough grader, he gives you constructive feedback to improve your future speech scores. As long as you prepare for your speeches beforehand and don't wait to the final night or two as I did, an A is MORE than manageable. (got a B+)
Great guy, met with me outside of his office hours on multiple occasions. Lectures were super engaging. Tough grader but gives a detailed rubric and outline format. If you follow it you will get an A, grades are based more so on the written preparation than speaking. Takes a letter grade off your participation grade for every unexcused absence.
He is a great teacher and makes his classes fun by starting with a question of the day. Attendance is mandatory but you only get one freebie. There are only three speeches throughout the year. If you follow the rubric for the speeches you will do fine. He is harsh on speech delivery and will take lots of points off for nervous mannerisms.
Dr. Dannar is very funny and personable. He is a harder grader than other comm professors, but if you actually follow the rubric and practice you'll be okay. Attendance is mandatory for all public speaking courses which sucks but it is what it is. He makes coming to class enjoyable.
Hands down the best public speaking professor not even close.
Dannar is a funny guy who obviously cares about each student and their success in the class. Attendance is required but it is taken with questions of the day to engage with the class. There are a few speeches to give but understands that public speaking can be hard for some and is lenient with some of the grading. Highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Dannar is a really good professor! He is funny and engages with the students. He is a tough grader on your speeches though, so if you are not a good speaker I would try to find an easier professor. Many points are taken off for verbal delivery such as small movements as swaying. If you like speaking though, take his class!
Amazing Professor! He gave a clear grading rubric in the textbook and if you follow that youll do pretty solidly on the grade-just comes to your delivery. Didnt think he was too tough a grader as I got what was right for what I delivered and he told you what you needed to work on. Great class and learned a lot. Hilarious too! 10/10 recommend!
- Did not provide clear instructions. - Tough Grading - Unclear assignments
He consistently gave us unclear instructions and then gave us a poor grade when we didn't understand. He also wouldn't answer emails about grades, so you had to take time to get on a Zoom with him.
He is a tough grader for online, def an easier teacher to take this class online with
A bit of a tough grader, but all you need is in the rubric. Understanding about fear of public speaking. Funny guy, and good at engaging with the class.
This class was pretty easy for me but be prepared to speak in front of the class. There are always very clear rubrics so you know what you are going to get for your grade roughly. Dr Dannar grades harsher than some of the other public speaking professors but there is an extra credit assignment so that helps. I would take this class with him again.
This class was really enjoyable. He is a great teacher and very funny. He is a tough grader for speeches but very helpful. The textbook provides a rubric that makes the speeches easy to follow. I would definitely take his class again!
Dr. Dannar has high expectations for the speeches you have to give, but he gives a clear rubric and grading criteria so you know how to prepare. He also very relatable, just be ready to do a lot of speaking in this class.
Great professor! I enjoyed delivering speeches in his class. He is a tough grader but the rubric is clear and the effort of preparing for speech does pay off. Definitely the best choice for the public speaking course!
Very tough grader, if you are looking for an easy speech class take someone else. You can basically not look at notes or outline while delivering speech.
I would say that Dr. Dannar's class was good class to take for public speaking. The speeches can be tough, but you have a clear rubric as to what he wants to see. You only have around 5 grades in the course, so that can be pretty tough. Also the final covers the textbook which we don't really use in class.
Professor Dannar was a great Instructor. His grading was often times difficult but he made a very clear rubric to follow and what he would and would not look for in your speeches. Your grade is determined by 3 speeches a group project and a final exam. If you do bad on one speech it will mess up your grade for the rest of the semester
Not a bad class at all. Attendance is mandatory but you get one excused absence. The speeches are a lot of weight in the class but if you put in the work you will do well. Make sure to study for the final in advance because it is all from the textbook and not a final speech!
Dr. Dannar is a great professor, and a good dude. I walked out a better public speaker because of his class. The grade for this class heavily relies on the three main speeches you will give. You have a final exam that takes a lot from the textbook, so ensure you keep up with that throughout the semester, not just focus on the speeches.
Dr. Dannar is very knowledgable about public speaking. I would say his grading is thorough, but I always got a grade that reflected how I did on my speech. Exam wasn't terrible; just make sure you are reading the textbook as you go throughout the course. I would totally recommend taking Dr. Dannar's public speaking class!
Do not take him If you are taking this class online, he is a ridiculously hard grader and this class is just so the college of Communications can feel better about themselves for having a useless major. take this class in person if you can it is just filled with busy work online
Overall, I enjoyed the lectures by Dr. Dannar and the way he organizes class. He is often available outside of class. However, he believes his entry level class is the most important class and his grading and comments reflect this. Do not take him for COMM1000 if you think it is an easy A or a light class.
Professor Dannar is an engaging teacher who makes class fun with his humor and interactive format. While grading can be tough on speeches, the class is manageable with preparation. Unstuck AI provides helpful study aids alongside the textbook.
Don't waste your time taking any class with “Dr” Dannar. He's devoted his life's work to communications and it shows, negatively. Extremely difficult to work with if you have accommodations, even after talking with the department head, who he tried intimidating me NOT to talk to. Ironically, the department head was worse to talk to. Good luck!
