Del Vecchio is a good guy, the course was a bit of a mess. Does not show calculations in lectures, but 3/4 of the exams were calculations. Find a good discussion session and be expected to teach yourself. It's not that hard once you understand it. A chance to average of the 3 exams and to not take the final, so study hard. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT!
FIN311 is known to be an annoying class but Del Vecchio really tried to make it as good as it could be. Very flexible in terms of grades (offered a lot of extra credit) and is very knowledgable in finance and fintech. Homework every week but it was very easy to get an 100 on them. New to teaching but he's trying to make life as easy as it can be
Never really seemed like he wanted to be in class. TA's had the unfortunate responsibility of teaching the majority of the material in discussion sections. Exams are very math heavy and specific but the lectures are more theory focused and don't help at all in my opinion. Take FIN 311 with another professor if you have the chance.
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. He barely knows how to teach and his TA's end up doing most of it during the discussion session. Very test heavy and his tests are nothing like what he gives on his practice exams. Study extra hard.
Worst professor I have ever had. Condescending and arrogant. It is extremely clear neither him or the School of Management care about the success of the students. An introduction Finance class should be a welcoming place that encourages students to explore an interest in the field. This class is anything but that.
Anthony Del Vecchio may be the worst professor I have had at Binghamton. His obvious lack of respect and compassion towards his students is evident. He makes me question every day whether I should drop my finance concentration. Truly a travesty that I had to have him as a professor here. I wonder why he wants to make everyone fail.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Does not know how to teach and exams are impossible. Averages for the tests are always close to failing and he still does not curve them. Practice exams are nothing like the actual exams. Does not go over the types of questions he asks on exams during class at all. Lectures are not helpful at all. Do not take him.
Probably the worst class I have taken at Binghamton. Tests are impossible and he doesn't curve. Changes homework due dates around without warning and assigns homework over breaks. The practice examples during lecture are nothing like the homework/quizzes/test so you have to teach yourself the material if you want to succeed. Good luck.
Do not take a class with this professor. As many people will say, he's a smart guy but acts like he doesn't want to be there. Unfair exams. Says he wants to "challenge you" i.e he wants to test you on things that you didn't learn, throws curve ball questions.
If you can take a different professor stay away from ADV. He is absolutely brutal. The tests are impossible and have no correlation to the practice material/homework/quizzes. ADV is not it. STAY AWAY!!!
4 tests (accumulate to 60% of grade) that average is around failing. Take home project (SUPPOSED to help you) that takes up more time of your semester than any other assignment combined. Extremely arrogant and unforgiving.
He is a very good person and is incredibly knowledgeable with the concepts taught. His exams are near impossible and do not reflect lectures, homework and quizzes. Going to class does not help your grade as the slides are useless. Ross teaches nearly all of the material needed for the exam. Go to discussion before an exam or you will not pass
If I could give below a 1 I would. My guy is awful at his job. Stay away way too many tests way too much time spent on teaching yourself the course just to have tests that don't correlate to assignments.
Is Anthony Del Vecchio an extremely smart man who knows a ton about Finance? YES! Should Anthony Del Vecchio be teaching an introduction Finance Class? HELL NO!!! He spends the majority of classes going over conceptual concepts, where the tests end up being 80% quantitative problems. His lectures don't prepare students to succeed on the exams.
Del Vecchio is the worst. He doesnt know how to teach and he makes the TAs do all the work (but the TAs don't know what they're doing either. His tests are insanely difficult & not like the practice tests. go to the TA lectures, do the practice tests and the homeworks, but you'll probably still do bad in this class. do not take a class w/ this guy
If I could give him a 0 I would. He curved the last test yet the class average is still below failing. I've never had a professor that I've hated so much in all my life. Don't take him if you can. Literally almost everyone is going to fail.
Professor DelVecchio has no business being in a classroom. When giving lectures he clicks quickly through slides and does not explain or provide examples in stead leaves it up to the students to teach themselves the material. The TA's try their best to help however most of the time they are just as confused as the students.
This professor is awful. The lecture slides are completely useless, don't even bother going to class. The homework and quizzes are not so bad, but the exams are awful. Even if you put hours and hours of work in, you will see stuff you've never seen before. This class is in J core but please try to avoid him at all costs.
Tests count too heavily for how he prepares students for them. Lectures are very conceptually heavy and do not go as in depth calculation wise as exams.
I have never had a professor give me more stress than this class. The worst part is that there are no other professors for this class and the amount of the work provided in this class is way too much for a 3 credit class.
Where do I start? Seriously? Up until this point, self-taught everything to myself. Brace yourselves: he doesn't go over problems in class; doesn't show you how to use the calculator (you'll learn that in discussion); barely teaches you material that you're going to have to know. Very frustrating. Very sad.
Just be prepared to learn everything from your TAs. Go to discussion. He doesn't go over any calculation-related problems in class causing so much confusion. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot too.
There is not much more to say about this man than what you have already read. He is terrible. I would give him a 0 rating if I could.
Almost useless lecture, Has trouble explaining simple concepts to students. TAs are very helpful, and prepare yourself to study 8-10 hours for each of his 4 exams
Workload is incredibly unfair for a 3 credit class. The key to success in this course is going to class... Not! Material is read directly off the board and in a class where 80% of test Qs are quantitative, he doesn't teach any quantitative material. TAs are your best friends. One exam the average was 51 so he curved to 61, still below failing.
class is a lot of work, but at least he gives extra credit. He doesn't like helping students and always says to ask the TAs instead. unfortunately, all J core students need to take this class. not a good a teacher
I'm going to keep it simple.. this prof is awful. He is by far the worst professor that I've taken at Bing. He comes off as calm/cool but he really seems like he's been hurt in his life and he takes it out on his students. The course is not worth it for only credits and sadly he is the only available option for the class smh! He is TERRIBLE
He is undoubtedly the worst instructor I've ever had at Bing. He gives the impression of being suffered in his whole life, and he takes it out on his students. However, he is the ONLY option for the class, which is unfortunate because the course is not worth taking for only credits. He is AWFUL.
Would give a 0 if I could. Lectures are rubbish. His only pleasure is to watch students suffer and fail. I am doing well so far only because I spend tons of time teaching myself the entire textbook, yet still stressed a lot. Whenever he feels students are doing too well(beyond 75), he would make everything much harder. Even can't sleep at night.
Where can I begin with how awful this professor is. This professor is a poor lecturer and will not help students with materials outside of class. The professor crammed 3 chapters within two weeks and excepts us to be fully prepared for a exam after spring break. The practiced tests are nothing like the exams and you will definitely need tutoring.
Worst class with the worst professor. First day off the bat, he said don't email him. Gave quizzes over breaks. Exams are tough. He can't teach and is miserable, so the TA's carry the class but you're on your own at the end of the day. Only prof available so just buckle yourself
There was a lot of work for this class. There are 4 exams, around 8 quizzes, and a group project. There's also attendance for the discussion section and homework although those two are optional. He lectures too fast so most people don't go. For a 3 credit class, there's a lot of work. Professor also isn't very accessible, he refers you to TAs.
He didn't teach super well but I honestly do not think the material is super hard so it doesnt matter that much. If i hadn't bombed one of the tests i probably would've had an A-. Didnt study so that was my bad. Class is overexaggerated in terms of how hard it is imo.
He's not that bad. Do not get me wrong, there is a LOT of work, especially for a 3-credit class. There are 12 homeworks, 8 quizzes, 4 tests, and a group project. Although the class average on the tests was usually in the 70's, I was able to average over a 100 across the 4 tests. If you actually study (especially the old tests), then you'll be fine.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had. Does not care about student comprehension, nor does he care about putting in even the slightest bit of effort, as the only thing he actually makes himself are the tests. If you can somehow avoid taking this class, do so.
Where do I even begin with this professor. I've never had a worse professor in my life. Work load is crazy. You have 4 exams which have two quizzes each in between them each and they are 3 weeks apart. We took the hardest test he has ever given that the TAs could not even take it the average was so low and he only gave a 3 point curve. He is a JOKE
I somewhat enjoyed the class and the concepts learned, however when it came to testing, everything was completely unreasonable. Practice tests would be posted that had absolutely nothing to do with the actual tests, making it very difficult to prepare properly for exams.
Probably the worst professor at this university. Probably the best example of how Binghamton adjunct professors continue to fail students consistently due to their inability to convey key concepts correctly. His slides, while full of information, were completely irrelevant to what students were tested on. Practice tests won't help either.
Should be extra careful because the exams are definitely misleading, the practice homeworks do not help, the quizzes, and especially the practice tests are way different from what the actual test would be. It sucks.
The worst professor I've ever had. Lectures are the biggest waste of time and what he teaches is *nothing* close to what is on the tests. He doesn't care about actually teaching students the material and if you do take his class be prepared to teach yourself. You should avoid taking any class with him if you can.
Worst professor at the University. Be prepared to teach everything yourself, as the lectures are completely unhelpful. Avoid him at all costs.
Not sure how he was hired - he's careless, unreasonable, and the list goes on. Actively set up students for failure, proctored quizzes are a joke, tests aren't even CLOSE to practice exams, slides, etc. He cannot teach and honestly, couldn't have had a worse professor for this extremely difficult class. TAs were more helpful than him
The professor is too tough on grading and has too many assignments for students. He doesn't care about students and would defer you to his TAs. Even if you ask him questions face to face, he would say talk to TAs. It was the worst class I have taken. Be prepared to suffer and test questions are not based on lecture.
This was easily the hardest class in J Core and possibly the hardest out of all the SOM required classes. The material in the class is tough, but it is even harder when this guy is your professor. Tests felt unfair, his practice exams do not help at all. Definitely the worst Professor in all of SOM. Raw score average was an F for 2/4 tests.
Terrible professor who doesn't care about his students. Exams are absurdly difficult and he does not provide good study materials. His lectures are useless and will not help you for anything that is graded. You can tell he doesn't even want to be in his own lectures by his frequent sighs. Worst professor in SOM.
Not good, just not good. Avoid if u can. Good luck
This was the worst experience I have ever had with a class at Binghamton. he goes very fast and expects you to know way more coming in. I wouldn't let this guy teach the ABC's to preschoolers
Worst prof in bing, lectures are pointless, only time you will learn anything is in the discussion section from the TAs. Extremely difficult course, not open to feedback, threatens to take 15 points off exam grades immediately if they are not handed in BEFORE the end of class. What kind of prof doesn't let u finish a test within the allotted time
This class is hard enough to learn, but with this professor it is a pain. Attending lectures did not help me at all. I taught myself through his slides and by watching the hint videos in the homework. Before exams, I would reread all of the slides and do the two practice exams offered. The raw score for every exam was failing. Curve = Holy grail
Lectures are useless, so teach yourself everything from the textbook. Third exam had a 20-point curve, and still failed. His reputation as a terrible professor precedes him. It's a side job for him so he doesn't care, and is not receptive of feedback. As someone who gets A's and B's, I might fail.
Very unfortunate that this is the only finance 311 professor. Lectures barely help with exams. He is inaccessible by email. Exams are vastly different from any practice material we were given. On top of that, the answer keys have a ridiculous amount of typos. If feels like he simply doesn't care about his students at all.
Review lecture slides, do end-of-chapter problems from the textbook, take advantage of every extra credit opportunity, and get SSD accommodations for extra time if you can. Just practice. A lot. Don't rely on the professor or TAs (they're useless) or you will fail. Don't expect help, sympathy, or motivation from anybody.
How this professor still has a job is beyond me. It is impossible to meet with him, and it is impossible to meet with the TAs. Tests are nothing like the practice exams provided, and classes are useless. Go to TA section every week as that material helps. Try to avoid him if possible and if not good luck.
You're not required to attend class. If you study for the quizzes using the homework and slides, you'll do fine and the quizzes make sure you study the material in a digestible manner. He's very generous with the extra credit + he curved ~15 points for the test average each time.
Not the best professor but not the worst. He is inaccessible so attending discussion sessions is the best time to ask questions. Exams are tough but he gives sample practice exams and curves depending on the class average. Make sure you take advantage of the extra credit offered. He doesn't hand out As, you really have to earn it.
You need to spend at least 2 hours everyday for the class to pass.
The ranking score is low for a reason. His exam is put on career week.
Lectures are insanely boring, tends to read off slides and get side tracked into irrelevant topics. Lectures and slides are useless, none of his tests are as easy as the examples he provides. Cut down on extra credit for this semester for some reason (class average for exams range is 60-70 on exams). Discussion sessions were extremely unhelpful
This guy does not care about his class. He will always say to reach out to the TA and will not answer ant email. He will speed through slides and act like he doesn't care because this is his side job. Good luck for anyone that takes his class your gonna need it.
No professor fails more than this one. Avoid at all costs. He failed to teach during lecture. He REFUSES to answer any and all questions directed towards him in person and over email. He is NOT accessible INSIDE or outside of class. Relies ENTIRELY on uninformed TA's to teach content in discussion, assign homework and grade ALL assignments.
Dreadful. Just dreadful. More work than every other J core class combined. Professor is inaccessible. Tests have failing averages. Ignore every other review before Fall 2024. He changed his syllabus. Last test had a 4 point curve. Final is cumulative. Class made me question being a business major in the first place. This isn't finance. This is h3ll
Not that bad. Apply yourself and practice the material outside of what he assigns. Don't just use the slides. His goal is to make you understanding through practice then be able to critically. If you actually put in that effort, tests are not so bad. He also has reduced the workload compared to previous years (1 less exam) and exams weigh less
Absolute fraud. He is the worst SOM professor I have had so far. The final was nothing like the practice tests so good luck, you might as well not study for the final you will be better off. The average for the tests is in the 60-65 range and he does not give good curves. Not accessible outside of class at all and directs everything toward his TA
overall worst professor i've had at binghamton.
This class is harder than rocket science. Lectures and practice exams are absolutely nothing like the actual tests - practice exams are so much easier. You might as well not study for the final because it was a waste of time. Class average was a 75 with the curves for the first two exams.
Believing the naïve assumption that his ratings reflected his strictness and not his incapability left me sharply disappointed. It is not about the ineptness of SOM students but rather that of the professor. Despite caring for his students, his ego and frequent errors (in PowerPoints and all but one test, including the final) undermine his teaching
Way easier than FIN311. No need to attend although the lectures are arguably pretty interesting. Graded on a bunch of online busy work that you just have to work through as well as 4 short papers and one long final. Examples are given for writing but no grades given to gauge performance. Overall get the work done and you'll be fine.
One of the biggest displays of negligence I've experienced. Countless times, students would bring to his attention a blatant mistakes in his slides, homework, project, etc., that were acknowledged but never fixed. Contacting him or any of his TA's is nearly impossible. Truly, BU should be humiliated to have him teach this class.
teach yourself from the slides, do every single practice problem on your own, & you'll be fine. connect hints saved me. Professor is contradictory, always saying he's trying to improve b/c he cares abt students but is so negligent and careless - constantly messes up slides/instructions and doesn't fix them, leaves all hard work to fall on TAs
How is this guy employed here
Absolute fraud. He is the worst SOM professor I have had so far. The final was nothing like the practice tests so good luck, you might as well not study for the final you will be better off. The average for the tests is in the 60-65 range and he does not give good curves. Not accessible outside of class at all and directs everything toward his TA
Worst professor. Very intensive class with so many quizzes, hw, and exams. Meaningless discussion sessions. TA were moving too fast to catch up.
You need to spend at least 2 hours everyday for the class to pass.
How this professor still has a job is beyond me. It is impossible to meet with him, and it is impossible to meet with the TAs. Tests are nothing like the practice exams provided, and classes are useless. Go to TA section every week as that material helps. Try to avoid him if possible and if not good luck.

On top of that, the answer keys have a ridiculous amount of typos. If feels like he simply doesn't care about his students at all.!!
Explained nothing, ruined everything. Thought sarcasm was a teaching method. I now fear both debt and his voice. Ask a question, and he'll respond with another question, like it's financial Jeopardy. By week 3, I stopped going to class and started lighting candles for my grade. Taught like he was mad we showed up. I left dumber, and sadder.
(Most Honest Rating) Overall Del Vecchio was "OK", you definitely do not need to go to class, look up Luke Mcelfresh on YouTube if you want a good grade cause he the goat. He explains everything Del Vecchio cannot. Easily would give him credit for my A. Make sure you study the practice exams and learn how to use the calculator well. Good luck!
Professor Del Vecchio might be the worst teacher I have ever had. He was never available to help and all the work fell onto his TA's of which most of them had no idea what was going on either. Practice tests aren't like actual tests. Seems like he went onto Google and searched "hardest finance questions" and didn't even look to see if he taught it.
This class was harder than anything anyone has said. The practice exams are nothing like the actual exams. There is no communication between the professor and his TA's. Do all the extra credit that is available.
The rating would not be so bad if it weren't for the exams. Do well on exam one because that's a gimme. Exam 2 and the Final were positively not like any practice material he provided. Concepts were 400-level on the exam compared to the homework and lecture material. Dude is super unorganized, and TAs were pretty useless during the discussion.
the material for this class is difficult, but ADV does nothing to make it easier. dont even bother attending lectures bc youll learn more about how to stay awake in this class than the actual content. project was so disorganized and TAs didnt even show up to their office hours. the curves are what really saves your grade at the end of the day.
A million administrative issues/errors + difficult course content + not all that responsive/helpful prof & TAs = pain. Does try to be transparent during class. Curves exams to an average of about 75. Get the easy points and make an effort in this class if you want to do good. It's not impossible like others make it out to be. Good luck!
Honestly not as bad as everyone claims Anthony to be, yeah he takes forever to upload assignments and reads off the slides but the actual exams are somewhat similar to what we cover in class material. Of course the questions won't be the exact same but if you do the practice exam and connect homeworks then you should be fine.
CRAZY, CRAZY< CRAZY
makes test impossible to complete in the time given because class did "too well" on the other test. Inaccessible, no office hours. be prepared to learn the class on your own with student ta's and YouTube teaching you. mean person
Average on first exam was too good so he made next exam harder/increased number of questions. Practice exams uploaded have mistakes all over them btw. Doesn't have office hours and isn't accessible so basically on your own besides TAs. Isn't helpful during lecture and is not approachable. Doesn't even answer emails and has his TAs do everything.
He gives no time to do the test. I bet he could not have done it himself in the amount of time he gave us. He makes a lot of mistakes when he uploads stuff. Not reachable outside of class.
he a gooner
Literally the most awful professor. Gives practice tests with the wrong answers and then gives us tests that are nothing like the practice exam or anything that we have ever done in class. Super unhelpful. No office hours. All around a disgrace.
Save yourself. It was already too late for me
this class feels like I'm being hazed
If you are religious, get one and pray
this class made me drop out of school and become a Tibetan monk
At this point study yourself, theres no point in going to class.Literally took 50+ attempts on a hw because he doesn't show you which questions are wrong. Told his TAs that they are not allowed to help us on the hw and WANTED us to struggle with it.Tests was extremely difficult esp for a non fin major. Do well on the first exam.GGS
get him out. now. please. you want to finance? no you don't. not after this class.
The content isn't that hard if you study, the professor is the problem. For the project he reused the same guidelines from last semester but didn't change the instructions so they did not match up with the new company and spreadsheet cells. The syllabus also has errors for the same reason. He puts no effort in and the TAs reap all the consequences.
Horrible 😭😭😭😭😭
I honestly think he's a good person but I have to do my duty on RMP. Exam 1 was fair, take home was fine, exam “3” and final were so unfair. Couldn't physically complete it in time. I don't think any TA or Prof could either. Didn't learn from mistakes. SOM needs to do something about those tests.
Content is hard but its even harder to understand how this guy is employed here. He made exam 2 and the final impossibly long so 95% of the class didn't finish just to match the average of previous semesters. A month after we took exam 1, he took 2 points off of everyone's grades because of a mistake that he made. Don't go to class, choose peace.
Most outrageous class I have ever taken. The second test and final were impossible to finish and were also nothing like any of the lecture or TA class questions. Would never answer any emails outside of class and made TAs do everything. If Bing really cared about student opinions they would make a change based off this 1.3 rating and the surveys.
Horrible professor and a horrible class, do your best on Exam 1. Exam 3 and the Final were impossible to complete fully on time and our study "resources" such as practice tests are nothing like those tests at all, curves everything to make himself look better to the school and so he doesn't get fired but in reality nobody learned a damn thing.
the worst professor i have ever had. its unfortunate the you have to take him from jcore. he comes to bing every week from nyc to teach. if you have to do that maybe dont teach here? this class stressed me out to the max ontop of the other j-core classes we had. it also felt like his tests were to punish students. i wish there was another professor
this guy is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life if you can even call him a teacher.
Don't bother going to class. DV's a nice guy, but won't help w/ questions & only explains concepts despite exams being 98% computation. STUDY THE TEXTBOOK + go on YouTube. DV wants class to perform poorly. Exam 1 reflected lecture & discussion, causing a high class average so Exam 2 was made impossible to finish to "make up" for Exam 1 scores.
SOM students are so used to these free A classes, so a class that might be a little challenging is pretty foreign when you are taking MKTG, OPM, and MGMT (a semester long workload of maybe 40-70 hours combined). You are graded against the remainder of the class, just beat your peers and you'll get an A regardless of how challenging the exams are.
Took him a while back but truly one of the worst professors I've ever had. He does not want the class to do well and takes great joy in making the exams purposely difficult. In class he's smug, condescending, and doesn't take questions from students. Also prohibits the TA's from helping you.
Tests are ridiculously long, and it isn't worth going to class when you can learn the content on your own. Test one was fine, but the second exam and final were so diabolical. Genuinely no way him or the TAs could've finished the tests in the time we were give, practice tests are completely unlike the real tests.
The course materials themselves aren't too difficult, the problem is the length of the exam. Took exam 1 and thought maybe the reviews on him aren't true or he changed, but when exam 2 and final came around, it was insane. Like 95% of the class was still sitting down and doing the exam when there were 2 minutes left.
Seems like a nice enough guy but his methodology behind testing is strange. Gives an extremely hard test to "challenge" students knowing that they're impossible to the point where the class turns into a competition of who can do the least bad. At least for the final he listened to feedback and gave one less short answer but still impossible mcq.
Tip for next semesters class. No one show up for the exams. Instead stay home goon etc. They cant fail us all
Average class average test grades of a 44 and 50. Sure they are curved but still the tests have nothing to do with the class material or practice tests. Not once have I had a professor who wishes the worst upon their students. How he is still employes by Binghamton is a true disgrace to SOM. One of the most unprofessional and evil people.
stopped going to class after the first exam because his lectures aren't helpful, taught myself all the material for the exams. extremely inaccessible outside of the classroom and has like 20 tas for some reason. crazy curve on exam 2 and final because the tests were unreasonably difficult and not like anything he gives us.. goodluck
Awful. Just awful. Exam 1 was fair but he made exam 2 and the final impossible to finish since exam 1 grades were "too high". Read the textbook, do the practice problems at the end of each chapter, and watch Luke Mcelfresh on Youtube. Did everything I could to do well and still ended up with a B.
My best advice would be to get as many of the "easy" points as you can, because the exams are highly unpredictable and much more difficult than they need to be. Del Vecchio seems like a decent guy, but he goes about the class in an unreasonable way. The exam averages are telling of how badly the class needs an overhaul.
I tried to give ADV a fair chance despite the bad reviews but unfortunately, they rang true. While he's a better lecturer than reviews say, his exams were excessively difficult and felt like lvl 3 questions in a lvl 1 class. Use tutoring, watch YouTube, focus on connections between concepts, and just hope everyone else did worse than you on exams.
Teaching isn't his priority— i think his instagram following reflects that iykyk. Not accessible AT ALL. Purposely makes the class difficult, even though it's supposed to be an intro level class. Having him as a professor is deterring people from actually learning and being passionate for Finance. Shame on Binghamton honestly. Prioritize learning
