Challenging professor, but you want to regret taking him for any class...
Good Teacher, Hard Class
Great teacher!!! VERY informative and funny! Challenging class though..
It's a lot of of work, but well worth it.
Tests are challenging, but class is very educational
Beware of his think pieces ; hard but worth it
It was a challenge but was a good class.
Great professor! One of the smartest, very challening but worth it!
He Rocks!
Lectures were very intesting, he's funny, tests aren't too hard
very nice and easy if you go to class and read
REALLY funny! REALLY hard! probably not worth the trade off
Amazing professor; knows his stuff - you will learn
He is cool and pretty lax at grading... knows his stuff.. passionate.
His study guides are pointless and his tests are impossible, stay clear of him!
ALOT OF INFO, TESTS ARE HARD, BUT DOESNT TAKE ATTENDANCE
awesome teacher, makes class fun, allows different views
Tests are rediculously crazy, i would rather die slow than take this class again
Easy, everything comes off the study guide, look that stuff up in the book and you'll do fine. Lectures very interesting. Very Fair as well.
Knows his **** and will make sure you do. Take him if you want to learn, but don't if you don't want to work.
Exciting lectures. I feel like an expert on US presidents after this class. Weird testing style though.
really interesting class, but super hard tests. he's nice and fair though and doesnt take attendence
The study guides have all the info on the first 2/3 of the test...the rest is either from class or from his own book. Do all the outside work besides the exams and you'll be fine. Curves and no attendance...but go to class, you'll learn something!
the class is straight rote memorization and hes a real cool guy. also, he doesnt test u on the weekly movies he only makes u go to them so thats definitely an added plus. i bombed the first 3 tests and still got a B.
he is a nice guy, but his lectures are boring. don't take the class at 3:30 on tuesdays and thursdays if you want to stay awake. tests are hard but he drops the lowest test score which is nice. overall, i thought the class was really boring.
i LOVE this man! gives outline of lectures so you only have to fill it in. doesn't test on weekly movies. no attendance policy. tests aren't too bad as long as you read over the chapters and the notes.
He explains everything very well and the exams are not bad. The paper is killer...doesn't really explain and it but other than that he is a great professor and you will learn so much about Congress....more than anyone should know!
I can't say enough nice things about him. He gives awesome lectures and he's so funny. His tests are very fair and you'll do fine if you study what he gives you. I've learned so much from him, take him if you can!!
He lectures very quickly and calls on students at random to comment on readings, which can be embarassing. Knows material incredibly well and you WILL learn in his class. He's fair but very hard. The tests are overwhelming at times.
Great teacher, tests are HARD but does give out the questions in advance. You WILL learn but you MUST work. Great guy, wish I could go back and take 225 with him.
Excellent professor, a student will learn a lot. Lots of reading and exams can be hard but if you study some you can easily get a B. Very understanding professor, had him for POSC 385 as well as POSC 225.
not a bad class, teacher is really good and passionate about material, knows what he is doing. tests are pretty hard...lectures are kind of boring...easy B/C class, not easy to get an A
If you want to learn take this man. Brilliant professor, very animated, and very enthusiastic. More teachers oughta have his feel for the profession. However, lots of reading and tough tests, but worth it.
BORING LECTURES. Movie nights every other Monday. Easy tests, one paper to write on a tv show (The West Wing). No attendance required. Class notes covers all material on test. Don't need to read the book. Study guides are excellent. Not a bad class.
This guy is the man, period. So hard to get an A, he doesn't like giving As, B's on the other hand aren't so hard. Hardest class I have taken at JMU so far, but worth it.
Dr. E is the best prof at jmu... hands down... test are moderately hard.... paper killer.... if you do your work you will be fine.. take it
All I can say is AMAZING! I think he is the most intelligent man I have ever met. Do the work and study his notes and you will do great. I have taken every class he has taught and he's my advisor- wouldn't trade him for anything!
enthuistic
Possibly the most boring class EVER. He zooms through lectures, he uses EVERY minute of the class. If you finish a topic 1 minute early, he will start on the next topic. Never cancels class and never lets class out early. Ave class test score is about 70.
VERY HARD AND BORING....funny man on exam days, but unless ur a polysci major--dont take this class...take history!!! its really difficult unless u eat breathe and live gov't
Nice man, tests are all scan tron. Sorta hard, but I'd take it again
Incredibly boring class...I usually enjoy government, but Dr. Eksterowicz made it dull. He's a very nice man, and quite enthusiastic, but his lectures are pointless overall...the book is more informative. Easy A, but mind-numbingly boring sometimes...
Very nice guy. His classes were pointless though, i stopped going after the first test, and just got the review study guide. There's some computer exercises and west wing papers you have to do, but it wasn't too bad. 4 exams, drops the lowest one. =)
He is nice, awesome, and knows his stuff. He is great for POSC 225 but POSC 385 is a killer. 2 essay tests, a term paper, and a final. Study all you want, but it won’t help at all on the tests. Take another class if possible.
Awesome professor... KNOWS his stuff... so much insight. A MUST take if you are interested in poli sci. reading isnt required... just follow study guide and REVIEW lectures. At the end of class he always leaves you coming back for more!
Great teacher
Amazing professor. He gives you a review sheet before each test, and curves most of the tests. Aren't tested on the monday night class, just need to show up. He drops your lowest test
Good class and interesting reading. Hard to get an A in his class unless you study forever. The exams are essays and you know the possible questions a week in advance- problem is that each question is a half a page long and very complicated.
He makes the class very boring. He never lets you out early and will start on the next subject with a minute left of class. He talks very quickly and I can't remember the last time I actually payed attention. He drops the lowest test which is cool but not an overall interesting teacher.
No attendance policy, tests are pretty easy, drops lowest test grade, easy 10% of your grade comes from lab section and 3 easy assignments, read the books he assigns for test questions, if you put any effort into the class you can get a B or an A
Can we say boring, and dull. He thinks his opinions on government matter even when they don't. He makes ironic comments about himself when he puts down ignorant people. Read and take notes and you will do fine. You'll walk a way with a b atleast.
At first I thought he was really great, but now he's starting to wear on my nerves. He doesn't try very hard to hide his political bias (LIBERAL), and he likes to hear himself talk - A LOT! Also, all data he gives you is from the 80s... I guess he's the best GPOSC teacher, but be ready to be bored
Likes to talk, but sometimes says the funniest things. Not a bad class if you take notes and study for the tests. No papers, only a couple easy computer assingments. He really wants to educate our generation to be the most knowledgeable for our future.
This guy is a cynical noxious twit. He is a miracle. I can't believe people show up to his classes (whatever his intensions are). He is trying to corrupt the youth. ( He aught to be arrested for this). He doesn't deserve recognition as a scholar. Average test grades: 85-75. Drops the lowest one.
he's really smart and cares about what he does.Tests are ok-just make sure to study a fair amount.Drops the lowest test grade and gives a few options for extra credit.I would suggest taking him
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! His class is actually somewhat interesting and he is extremely fair. Gives 4 tests including the final, and you are allowed to drop your lowest. He is incredibly intelligent and knows his stuff! I would highly recommend!
HARD! his lectures are boring so it makes me want to skip it + he doesn't check attendence. if you want a A or a B in this class, study your butt off the book and read through your lecture notes. the book that he edited aka "PC" book, so boring but must read, it's on the exam. 4 exams, 2 papers.gluk
four tests, drops one, lots of reading, only 5 movies, two extra assignments grades easily, tests are very structured with sections from the text, lecture, and supplemental reading, if you read/study you will do fine. He also offers extra credit to boost your grade. He is a very intellient and fun!
Do NOT take his class if you are at all conservative! Though I found the class to be easy, his excessively biased opinions and liberal favortism made me want to walk out every time I went to class, which therefore meant I ended up not going. He will just piss you off if you dont agree with him.
Great professor, funny guy. EXTREMELY clear in grading policies. No attendance. 4 tests (one dropped) plus 2 short assignments and 5 movies that all the gposc classes have to go to. Gives out studyguides, but I still found it difficult to get above a C on his tests. Easy C, difficult B, near impossible A. Highly rcommend, but difficult for a gened.
Great prof! You will learn lots and have fun in lectures.
He's a good guy and extremely fair in grading. 4 exams, lowest dropped, extra easy assignments and mon/tues nightly govt movies all to help boost your grade. He's funny and his lectures are long and fast but clear. Read the textbook if you want a good grade on exams, it's really hard to get one though. I did everything and got barely a B! Take him!
Ok, for a gen ed, slightly hard, Uve gata study ur @ss off for a B on a test. The high curving of tests helps A LOT! Dropps lowest test. No attendance, but would HIGHLY recommend going. He MOVES through lectures! Fun guy, knows his political ****! U better know urs! Movie nights are easy pts, GO! Do the paper and lab activity & u might get a C.
Great Professor! This class is not difficult, just read the book! He is incredibly knowledgable on the subject matter and conveys it in a good way so that students can understand. An A is very attainable, you just have to be willing to do a little bit of work! It is a poli sci course and it's college so expect to have to read! Highly recommend!
This is an awesome professor. He's funny and makes learning the material interesting. He'll definitely make you work for your grade but he's by far my favorite professor.
His tests are difficult but if you complete the study guides, a B is very attainable. Drops lowest tests of 4. EAsy 10% on other BS. Take him of all professors, last test not cumulative and only on 3 chapters.
This is class isn't hard, note taking is a must for half of the exam questions, you need to do the extra readings and do the study guides. HUGE curves, tests are fine. its not that much work, really study for the tests though.
4 exams, 1 drop. 40 Q's from txt, 10 from his lecture, 10 from another book. BS other 10% (Serious BS). He is very smart - he wrote the friggin books. He is so boring. YOU HAVE TO READ HARD to do well. Compared to others I kno of , his is less intense, less reading, easier. Take this guy
EXCELLENT SPEAKER...can keep ur attention at 9am ****/hungover/stoned. awesome guy. really witty. tests seem easy, but the grades prove otherwise. TAKE THIS CLASS.
my favorite teacher at JMU. SO incredibly helpful. LOVES what he's teaching and it shows. 2 tests and a term paper...not too bad...i would highly recommend taking him, he makes you love the material and I learned a lot.
This is guy is the best public speaker ever! He is so clever that you never know what side of the political spectrum he's on. Warning, if you don't study, you will not do good at all. This is a must!
He is by far one of the best professors I've had in college. I learned so much from his lectures and I actually enjoy going to his class. Definitely take him!!!
Best/smartest professor at JMU so far. He is so good at keeping your attention and keeping you excited about the subject. He clearly loves what he teaches and it makes you want to learn it and do well. He wants everyone to succeed and is actually pretty funny. If you have the chance to take him, PLEASE do!
great professor! lectures are very interesting for the most part. The assignments arent very hard and if you study for the tests, its not that difficult to get a B.
Really enthusiastic teacher who loves what he does. Read the book for the test and go to class! Tests can be hard but go to class, read, and do the review sheets and you will be fine. Go to the movies too, the points really help in the end.
In my undergrad and graduate career I have taken close to 300 credit hours and Eksterowicz is the worst teacher I ever had. My only C at JMU was because of him. I did the assignment he said in class and not the one listed in the syllabus, which he did not follow. Since I turned in the "wrong" assignment he gave me a zero. Completely unfair.
there is no question he's very knowledgeable about the subject. he's pretty entertaining sometimes and his lectures were interesting. however his test were a difficult format. all essays. read and go to class.
Probably the best professor at JMU. Among the most brilliant for sure. Has a passion for the material he teaches and instews that into his students. Discussions are enjoyable, productive. Must read, participate and focus on lectures intently. Definitely one of the better classes and professors in the department. A must take in my eyes! Brilliant ma
A pretty nice guy, really knowledgable about the topic, but I'm not completely happy with the way he runs the course. Really rigid grading policies, his tests are ridiculous (try memorizing six essay outlines, where each essay question contains about 4 questions within itself!) I'm not really a fan of his teaching style, but it's an okay class.
Professor is a nice guy. Had 170 students in class so it was all lecture. The course content is challenging and thats not his fault, so be sure to read the text book thoroughly before each of the 4 exams (including final). He is a smart individual who loves what he is talking about and will make you love it too, even if government isn't your thing.
This class is kind of intimidating, mostly because it's so much material and he's so brilliant. He's a terribly nice guy. He's a fair grader and it's generally interesting material. The exams are all essay and difficult, but as long as you pay attention during the lectures and do the discussion questions, you'll be fine.
His tests definitely require you to read the textbook, but they're relatively easy. His lectures are very interesting, especially if you are interested in how Government really works - a really nice, funny guy as well, one of the best I've had at JMU.
really hard tests, expects you to know a ridiculous about of information about literally everything. Don't take him unless you have time to spend reading the entire textbook and some other book he wrote...too much work unless u like government
The best professor at JMU. How this man is not at UVa or an Ivy league school baffles me. He is among the best lecturers I've had the pleasure of listening to. His discussions are insightful and his classes are legitimately interesting and stimulate thought and forces the student to grow intellectually. Build your schedule around him!
waste of my life
Amazing professor. Very intelligent and helpful. Tests are difficult but he is a fair grader. Take him!
Good guy but the material is no fun! If you lke politics and history take the class but if you are fufilling gen eds dont do it!
Kind of like going to church for government. Dr E is very entertaining and a great speaker. Reads from note cards and can throw a lot of info at you. He's fascinating though, and helpful if you ask. 3 tests + non-cumul final. Lowest of the 4 grades gets dropped. A few chances for extra credit. Movie nights, but you just show up to get credit.
He's a nice guy and all...but the way he runs this class is absolutely insane. He says a million words a minute during lecture, which makes it impossible to take notes (no Power Points). The tests are 7-8 different essays we are supposed to memorize. And then there are the "think pieces"...the worst assignments EVER created. Get ready.
Very disorganized
