the best proffessor i've had, he teaches with critical thinking, trying to offend the student to help open their minds, by far the best english educator i've ever had
he always pushed me to do better and i did work i'm proud of. tony is a great teacher, you will learn so much and have fun too
He is the man. He teaches you to think before you talk, because you are probably wrong. This man can convince you of anything. He is a great teacher. Grades papers a little hard, but thats his job. Take him
He is so cool. He is extremely helpful and will meet with students about anything. Great sense of humor. Loves class discussions about anything at all. Brings personal stories into the lecture that are great examples & are entertaining.

Tony is awesome. His class is so fun and we have some great discussions. There's a lot of challenging writing assignments, but he's willing to help in any way that he can. If you don't mind a bit of work, take him!
Tony is an awesome teacher who makes class really enjoyable. He's easy going about the papers your write and will help you with whatever you need.
Perhaps the best professor I've ever had. He acts like he grades extremely tough but he's pretty lenient. Also, go to his office hours, you can learn a lot from him. He's a nice guy, a great professor and I recommend him to anyone that needs english.
Dr. Tony is an amazing teacher. He knows his stuff, but he doesn't let that color his opinions if you think you know something different. He encourages different thoughts and opinions in his creative writing class, and he will push you to grow.
Tony was the best prof. I have ever had at IUP, he has the best sense of humor....I actually wanted to get out of bes in the am to go to his class...he is great, if you ever has the change TAKE HIM!!
best professor I've had. challenging, but helpful. his classes are really fun, and he is funny too. 100% reccomended.
Tony is the greatest! He will do anything to help you and gives great advice for papers. Class couldn't be more fun and interesting, but challenges you to do your best work, to write something you can be proud of. This man rocks!
Tony is an awesome teacher. We had many great times in his class, TAKE HIM. i enjoyed his 101 class so much that I have him for 202 next semester...he rocks!!
I LOVE TONY! TAKE THE MOST AWESOMEST CLASS EVER!
Anyone wanna join my "Tony Farrington Fan Club"? He seriously is THE BEST! Take him if you can, and you will not regret it. I took him for 101 Sprin'04 and i will miss that class always. i cant be the only one that also thinks he's hot.
He was so nice, very funny man. He is not a hard grader. The books he asked us to read where very interesting. All around great guy.
He's funny, but the assignments are horrible.
His class is very interesting, but he grades horrible, and is very opinionated... I would NOT recommend his for this class !
Tony will push you to do your best. If you don't like working and aren't willing to use his office hours to go over papers, you won't like how he grades. But if you put in effort you will learn a lot. Not an easy A, but some students still care about WHAT THEY LEARN, which is a lot in his class.
Probably one of the best teachers out of all the profs here. You will work your butt off and A's aren't easy to get, but you'll learn a ton and he's a supercool guy. Research writing can be a horrible class, but not with Tony. Not easy, but really good.
Great professor! Your not likely to get an "A". But he is still awesome. You will learn alot of interesting things from each class. If your not willing to do the work don't take him. If you don't mind working hard he is recommended.
I HIGHLY advise taking him! You will learn a lot and enjoy yourself. I acquired a completely new approach to writing from him! He's definately my favorite professor so far!
Dr. Tony is an amazing teacher of his craft. He has passion for creative writing and he imparts it to his students. I know my creative writing skills have improved in his class. He can be a little ambiguous sometimes, but it's worth the wait to see how you can bloom as a writer. Also hot.
The best prof @ IUP because U aren't guarenteed an A but the class is fun, u learn so much & have to work, not just slide by because it is fun. He is engaging, funny & everyone loves him for a reason! He rocks! You die for office hour time though! Take him every chance you get. HOTTIE!!!!
Tony is an excellent English teacher. In all honesty, he makes his classes difficult, but he'll push you to succeed. If you need him, he will make the time to talk to you. One of the best teacher I've ever had...I don't have him for a class now and still meet with him every week!
Tony is AMAZING. He knows his stuff, he's good at what he does and he's astoundingly interested in how his students are doing. He's helpful and funny and a great prof. You really can't get a better teacher than Tony Farrington.
Tony is an amazing prof, a great writer, and just an overall fun person. Class is a blast, and you learn and improve your writing so much. Highly recommended.
I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Tony because he is awesome!!! Take him if you can, it will change your life as a writer. He's so intelligent & helps u grow as a writer. He is funny and class is never boring. Easy to talk to and will inspire you with his writing. I named my gerbil after him. He could start a fan club.
Tony is awesome! Enough said. Take him if you have the opportunity to do so!
Tony Farrington is amazing. Really, it's the only word for the man. Genuinely interested in his students and their development as writers. Taking the time to really ask him questions on your papers will help a lot- he's very honest with you. Didn't have a plan for the unit, but he's new at Core. Still, he does an amazing job. Fun class! Take him!
Tony is an amazing prof. He will teach you to look at the world in brand new ways, and will drastically improve your writing. Take Tony!!!
If you talk in class he'll like you and you'll get an A, if not don't expect an A no matter how hard you try! He has favorites...usually the odd people that talk too much about off the wall things. He was interesting though I enjoyed the class. Just talk in class even if it makes no sense AT ALL and completely off the subject, then he'll like you.
tony's great, he'll show you new way of looking at the old things, he's great very informal, very open-minded, you still have to work your ass, but you'll grow from it. take tony if you want a breath of fresh air
The class is everywhere but it's very entertaining and enjoyable. He is always willing to give his opinions on anything but is open to others as well. The writing is difficult but it isn't too much...it's actually a pretty great course! I would take him again.
Tony is one of the best professors that IUP has. He cares SO much about his students, and really wants to see them do well in his classes, as well as see their writing improve. His classes are a lot of fun, and very informal. Discussions are great, and Tony encourages students to participate in them. English majors should take his classes.
Very cool and funny!
He is AWESOME. He will help you in any way he can & he is all about students participating in class, even if they take him off topic because he seems to enjoy taking something random and relating it to the text. Be ready to read & be ready to look at things in a different light. He has a way of complicating things like religion, sex, society, etc.
now here is one crazy ****. Tony is the**** because he doesnt give a **** about anything. he swears all the time and makes me laugh every class. he will hate you and make fun of you if you are quiet and stupid and never participate so dont waste your time coming, he enjoys outbursts and personality so just talk and he will like you
Dr. Farrington is THE FUNNIEST professor I have had so far, even though im only 2nd semester freshhyy:) haha he talks about the most random things in class, like how barbie is retarted and no one could ever look like her in real like all the way to why country music and walmart suck haha DEFINATELY TAKE HIM! definately get the books and read=easy!
I was lost all semester, he is all over the place on topics and its hard to follow or understand what he wants from you out of the class
Terrible professor. He is all over the place with his lectures. While he seems like a nice guy he is likely the worst teacher I have ever had. Rather than discuss the book we were assigned, all too often we would be given a quiz and then introduced to a completely unrelated lecture. Assigned reading is terrible and the class taught me nothing.
Dr. Farrington is the man! Love this prof and this class. He makes stuff interesting and makes you think about things in new ways. Take notes on what he says in class, as that will be on tests. Also know quotes from readings. Overall, fairly straightforward though. I great experience IMO.
AMAZING prof! He knows his stuff. Had him for Creative Writing & kept referring to him to my friends as a 'genius.' He's all over the place, but I think he just thinks faster than he can speak. Always available for help & gives excellent advice on papers. If you have a chance to take him, DO IT. Probably one of the best profs I've had in my 4 yrs.
He does make class pretty interesting. However, he thinks he knows everything. He encourages you to talk in class, but almost always tells you that your interpretation is wrong and his is right. Also, he grades so that you are competing with your classmates. No matter what, only a few people can get As and some people will fail.
Rambles on about whatever he can come up with during class. Although he is funny, you will most likely not get much out of the material he is discussing. Tests are on material he never talks about. This has been my only C yet in college if that tells you anything. Would not recommend to anyone.
He is a funny, nice guy. Take his class if you want something interesting. However, don't take it if you want an easy A. While it is not extremely difficult, he makes it so the top 15% get As and the bottom 15% of the class get Fs. Also, attendance is part of your grade.
My writing improved more from six weeks with Tony than it had in four years of high school. He teaches you to write and think differently, and he's personally interested in all his students (he will talk to you for half an hour or more for one paper). He's an all around interesting and amazing prof. Take Tony!
If you HAVE to take Tony Farrington, go to every class and take a decent amount of notes. READ his assigned readings. Tony leaves no room for alternate opinions. It is his way, or no way. He seems to be very anti-Christianity, which made the lectures rough to listen to for me. His information is not hard to follow, usually.
I don't know why some others say he's a bad teacher. HE'S NOT. A great teacher, as long as you come to class(required for grade) and take notes/read assignments you will do well on test. Very funny and keeps class interesting! HIGHLY recommended! I got a B without trying too hard so its not a real hard class. Hope to be in another of his classes!
BEST TEACHER EVER hands down!! You'll learn and have fun in all his classes. I missed a class one day by accident and I was mad. Wish I could have him for all subjects! love you Tony! Lol -Estelin :)
Tony is a wonderful professor. He made me want to take more English classes. He is easy to understand if you pay attention. His lectures can be very easy to get into. He will often allow students to talk about any subject they want in any class. Don't be afraid of his tests or quizzes, just do your work.
This man moves mountains with his mind.
Interesting teacher. He talks alot and is a good teacher. I think he wants the best for his students. He encourages bullsh*ting and tries to help the class understand as much as he can.
Interesting professor -- my ideas on society, humanity, etc. have been challenged and I have found myself easily engaged in the lectures. Attendance is mandatory and there are pop quizzes (amt. depending on class participation/if he thinks the class is reading). No out of class assignments except for minimal reading. Definitely not a boring prof!
I was interested in the class, but having Dr. Farrington made it the best class I had that semester!
I have taken 250 college credit hours- Tony is the best professor I've ever had.I learned SO much in his classes. He's not an easy teacher--so many people whine about that. You have to do the work. As soon as you start doing well, he starts pushing for more. If you care about what you're doing, no teacher will help you grow more! Hilariously funny!
He's one of those teachers you either love or hate. He's a very informal person and doesn't provide hard and fast guidelines; for some students, especially those in the honors college, that's really unnerving and going to cause you more trouble than anything else. He's a great guy though so even if you don't like him as a teacher you should be fine
Anthony was amazing. He made me look at so many things from a different perspective. Take him if you have an open mind.
He is very down to earth and funny. Lectures are never boring, but his tests are kind of hard. You really need to keep up with the readings and know quotes
Professor Farington is a really good teacher. I enjoyed his class very much. He pushes you to think outside of the box some, but I think that is what makes me like him. He has interesting lectures that make you think in a different way. You have to read a lot, but most of what you read is pretty enjoyable.
He's an awesome guy. He will have a conversation with literally anyone about anything. I love when professors relate what we're learning about to real life and he always does. He makes you think. He has great views and respects everyones. Awesome person, awesome professor. Look forward to his class.
Tony is a very unique professor at IUP. He took a class that could have been miserable & boring and completely flipped it upside down and it turned the novels and classwork into life lessons. For an ENG professor, you will be amazed how much he makes you question your morals & society. Definitely take this class if you have a creative mind :)
Farrington is a pretty cool and interesting guy. However, I struggled with his creative writing class because I was so unclear as to what he expected. He wanted us to write stuff that would please the "infinite bar," and I don't care about pleasing people with my writing. I took it to help me get my creative flow out, and I got writer's block
Anthony is very laid back so if you show up and do your work you'll pass. He can be a little confusing about what he wants but if you ask questions he's happy to help or try to clarify. He's a funny guy and his class was helpful.
So far, I really like having Anthony as my professor. He is funny, laid back, and makes class interesting. He uses random things from the real world to relate to the assigned readings. I would take him again if I had to take anymore English classes!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! MAKES ENGLISH INYERESTING. HE'S VERY FUNNY! FIRST ENGLISH CLASS I HAD WHERE I DIDN'T HAVE TO WRITE A PAPER! I WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN & AGAIN IF I COULD! DOESN'T GIVE HW, GIVES 2 QUESTION POP QUIZZES, & EXAMS ARE MANAGBLE IF YOU READ & PAY ATTENTION! ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. BTW HIS GRADING SCALE IS AWESOME!!!
LOVE THIS GUY! He is so so funny! He also makes you think outside of the box. If you're looking for an easy class, I would look elsewhere. He makes you work for it, but you feel good after you work hard. He really is a great guy and I enjoyed his class a lot. There's a lot of discussion during classtime, but it's pretty enjoyable.
By far one of the best English professors of all time! He respects and relates to his students and 85% of classes is just discussion. He requires you read along with his assignments and gives u a few 2 question pop quizzes but he always makes it fun and relatable so it isn't hard to remember concepts he tests on. AND NO PAPERS!
Tony is great! If I have the opportunity to take him again I totally will. Attendance is mandatory and he gives pop quizzes once in a while so study your lecture notes. Lots of reading too but his lectures really help you to understand the text and what's going on. He has a great sense of humor. I always looked forward to going to his class!!!
I thought he was alright as a professor. I would have enjoyed him more If i cared for literature more. I didn't enjoy all of the readings. The tests get easier as you move forward, and he curves so that helps a lot. I ended with a B. Go to class, pay attention to lecture & do the readings!!
One of my favorite professors at IUP! He's a little quirky, but he's really funny and makes the lectures interesting. You really should do all the readings but his exams are graded on a curve and he also doesn't require you to write papers so that's a plus!
Tony is my favorite professor at IUP! If you are looking to get published or just hone your skills as a writer I highly suggest taking his classes! He really cares about his students and his assignments have a purpose. If you are in a major specific class he allows your class to decide what you want to do. If you have the option, take his classes!
He made the class very interesting, using anecdotes & visual displays to get his point across, whilst teaching us in a different way, forcing the class to think critically. He was the opposite of a professor who feeds you tons and tons of power point slides, only for you to memorize the content, and then forget it whenever the semester is over.
Tony is one of the best professors I have had in my four years of being at IUP. He really cares about his students and has an obvious passion and talent for writing. He tries to push students into writing the best they can and is successful in teaching using unconventional methods. If you keep up with the work, the class will fly bye.
He is a good guy and a very interesting sense of humor. He is willing to help you if you ask. I suggest doing the reading assignments because the tests can be tricky. If you understand the material and can make connections between the passages you will do fine. All tests have a writing component.
Love him so much! My favorite professor I've ever had! Truly cares about you and how you do! Will do anything to help you in this class or in your professional life afterwards!
Random quizzes that are only two questions so easily to fail but exams are not to difficult and he give the top 15% of the scores As, the next 35% Bs, and the next 35% Cs so even if you fail, you could get a C. Funny guy, good lectures
Loved this course. At first his teaching style was a bit much for me but he really grew on me and I am glad I took him for English instead of someone boring. Dont miss class without an excuse because he counts it. I didn't even read the first books and got 88 on the first exam. I read all the books after that and got 90+. Take him!
Amazing professor, but graded hard. Gives random quizzes to make sure you're reading the assignments. Lectures are random and sporadic and never really know the theme of the unit. essay's are difficult because question is broad. For a literature course, he makes us write a lot.(last exam was a 4 pg paper) and grades essay's very hard
Terrible
Tony is a good guy, but he is just all over the place. His tests are difficult although he gives a generous curve on them. Chances of getting an A are very slim. You won't understand what to take out of his lectures because it never seems like he is on topic in his lectures.
My favorite professor so far. His class is really interesting and he makes everything interesting. Would defiantly take his class again.
Best professor. He will make you laugh every class and you will remember everything you learned. Lots of reading but you'll do fine.
Dr. Farrington is one of the funniest professors I've had so far. You get graded only on exams, but you do take quizzes that he most likely won't count. Lectures are very interesting and he has tons of awesome stories. Highly recommend. To get a B or A you HAVE to read what he assigns. I really didn't but wish I had. Take him!
Great guy and my favorite class. You have 3 exams and an essay in each of them. A lot of people didn't do well and I don't know why. You read the assignments and take careful notes in class. That is it. I literally studied the night before for this class. The final exam is a take home 4 page essay. One of my favorite classes because of the lectures
Phenomenal perspective, great in-class discussions, and just a genuine & kind professor. He cares a lot about his students and can help you with your writing tremendously.
Farrington is a cool guy but his teaching style only works for a specific type of learner. You could read all the assignments and still be lost during lecture sometimes. He's not looking for the right answer on essays, he's looking for something he's never seen before or something related to a topic we never discussed in class.
Awful experience with this professor. He doesn't follow the casual grading scale; even if you get a 92 in the class (an A), unless you're in the top 15% of all the students, you're not getting an A. Go to class if you want to pass, but you'll probably not get an A. Lectures are all over the place and he expects "genius". Wouldn't recommend. A joke.
Professor Farrington made this class such a fun experience. He's not a professor that you can ever say bores you. His lectures are very engaging, and he gives his students the opportunity to speak their mind. Though he does make you work harder for your grade, it's not impossible to do well in that class as long as you apply yourself.
His lectures were really fun and his grading system for seem confusing at first but its actually real nice. Hes funny and gives great examples.
No clue what was going on in this class. He is very interesting and it was fun but with any class work I had no clue what I was doing and failed every exam. I ended with a C but it was just overall a weird class
He was really funny and gave good feedback on my work. if you play the game with him you'll get a good grade. his grading is a little weird but it actually works pretty well. he was great.
Not very accessible or communicative outside of class (rarely answered emails, unprepared for writing conferences, etc.). Gave some insightful comments on writing style and form but expects one particular mode of writing from his students unless its genius. Tries to fit your work into his own vision. Feedback was often dull and lacking in depth.
Worst teacher ever! Instead of talking about literature, he gave a lecture on pin-up girls. Wth is that supposed to do with literature. If I could I'd give him a 0.
Thought creative writing was what you wanted to write? Not in this class. Told me my writing wasn't good enough and only like your writing if it was provocative. Loved talking about sex in class, and thought he was cool for swearing.
His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the readings that are required! Hell go on an unrelated rant about pronouns while were reading and SHOULD BE discussing a work from over a year ago, and then on the tests have questions about his rants rather than the readings!
If you want to write it is imperative that you take Farrington, he is the best (and most qualified) english professor. If you are a poet, he is your man. I cannot recommend him enough.
You have to read the material or you won't pass the class. He doesn't go over the actual reading in class, but talks more about the meanings or cultural significance behind it. He's a funny guy and he made coming to class enjoyable for me. Just make sure you keep up with the readings or you'll regret it when the exam comes around.
Very funny and down to earth guy who is understanding when it comes to your grades. If you pay attention in the class and do the readings, you have an easy A. The way he finalizes the grading is confusing at first but isn't terrible. I would 100% recommend taking him if you have the chance.
I really enjoyed having him as a professor. He is very funny and has good stories. His tests are a little hard though, but they are all online. He has reading quizzes as well, but they are pretty easy and are usually just 2 questions. He also curves grades a lot too. I would suggest taking his class since it is pretty easy and not so demanding.
As a person he's awesome, as a teacher...eh not so much. he's an entertaining guy for sure, but that's about all you'll get from the class. he won't go over any of the readings in class, often opting to go on rants about society or common beliefs that he thinks are wrong. Personally I'd rather not have his political beliefs be so apparent.
Dr. Farrington lectures as if his students have already learned the class materials. He also makes his personal views and beliefs very prominent during his lectures. I got a 55/100 on an exam that I studied for, but it turned into a B. He grades by comparing you to other students rather than whether or not you know the information.
Terrible. Dr. Farrington pretty much used his lectures as a therapy session about his ex wife and other random personal issues in his life. He also says that it will be very hard to get an A or B in his class, but if you read everything it is fine. His grading is very strange as well. Stay away!
His lectures are very interesting. However, I think a lot of them are more of a think-tank for opinions that he presents as objective. Regardless, they're entertaining and he is a nice guy. His grading is fair because he curves his tests which are all very difficult.
If I could take him again I would! He is the only professor to actually make me think and want to come to class! He is very understanding and nice. He makes his lectures very interesting and makes you want to ask more questions at the end! From my experience he graded very well, and I would absolutely take the class again! My favorite all year!
Dr. Farrington is legit one of the best professors I've ever had. his lectures are excellent! the way he connects things blew my mind and made the class very interesting. His grading is kind of weird, but he explains it (the way he grades helps you out a lot). All you need to do is go to class, participate, and try your best on exams and quizzes.
I have never been excited to go to a class before this one. The work can be challenging and there are 2 questions quizzes due before each class. He has his own grading scale which helps out a lot. His lectures are very entertaining. Definitely recommend taking this course
He was a great professor that was very funny and made lectures enjoyable. Grades in a really weird way, but the way he grades is very beneficial to students.
Nice professor. Went on a lot of random rants about the same thing every class. I always thought I was good at writing essays, but almost failed very single on he graded.
I took Dr. Farrington's English 221 course, and it was great! Some assignments were a bit confusing, but he is there to help. He allows extensions and gives good feedback on submitted work. He is very funny and made class enjoyable to go to.
I recommend taking Dr. Farrington's class. He is very funny and gives good feedback. The writing assignments can be hard to write at first since he lets you write about anything you want. However, once you start getting into the groove of things writing poetry becomes easier. He is very chill and as long as you put in effort you will pass.
Prepare yourself for a unique learning experience prior to taking Dr. Farrington's Humanities Literature class. He is not the traditional professor in his lecture style, and his lectures do not encourage note-taking. You must be able to gather what he taught, and connect between different lectures. The ideas are very interesting, but not easy.
Dr. Farrington will pull excerpts from the Bible and point out their contradictions, for the sake of his lectures. I believe most of the contradictions could be solved with a simple Google search, but I understand the larger idea of why he does what he does - to point out patriarchal societal systems. Interesting grader, you MUST read!
Dr. Farrington's lectures on beauty and 'margins' are very good. He can be outdated in his approach of connecting with students. Quizzes are fine, grading system is peculiar. Readings are challenging, but insightful. A mixed experience.
Tony is a king we love him
Professor Farrington overall is an extremely nice person. The class however is somewhat challenging and it is expressed throughout the semester that it is hard to get an A. The tests are very confusing, the essays may seem straight forward until they are graded, and he has a very different teaching method.
Genuinely loved this man and his material. He is funny and engaging and cares deeply about the topics he discusses. He almost made me switch majors, he is so passionate. Exams and papers are a lot more difficult than I expected, and you can't really take notes during lectures, but it was worth it. I learned a lot! Definitely take him if you can!!!
I absolutely loved him! He's an amazing professor and genuinely wants you to succeed. He said "If you show up and pay attention, you won't get anything below a C." I got a 76 on our second exam and he counted it as an A. I would definitely recommend taking him! He makes class interesting and fun and I genuinely wanted too go to his class every time
Farrington's class is quite unique - his lectures are thought-provoking, though his grading can be peculiar. Engaging with the material and using tools like Unstuck ai for prep helps navigate this interesting course.
Quit literally the best professor I have had. His lectures are so interesting, a hilarious guy and loves when you talk and participate in class. I'm very quiet in class but with Farrington it was so interesting to get involved and ask questions. He is harsh grader, but it's not a difficult class unless you lack critical and analytical thinking.
His lectures are truly intriguing. You leave this class wanting to know more about what he teaches. I wish he could teach every class I take for the rest of my life.
Professor Farrington was great. His lectures are always hilarious and very entertaining. He requires lots of short readings, his exams were pretty difficult, and he grades essays pretty tough, but he is extremely nice and caring. He is very laid back and is accommodating when needed. He always engages the class in lectures and makes everyone laugh.
