nice guy, but you WILL have to do the work. VERY helpful professor!
he is a dean. very hard tests. class avg 79
WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD. I DIDNT LEARN A THING!
I HAD NO PROBLEM AT ALL in ECO1001 with this guy! he is a funny man! I got an A
Very good pro.with sense of humor.Very straight structured lectures&tests
He wants everybody to be on the same level. He's very fair and gives the students many opportunites to bring up their test grade by offering extra credit. Great guy.
Excellent professor but you have to do the work. Good students will pass, but slackers will fail.
if you think this is a good class than you must be one of the people that he puts to sleep
I highly recommend him. if you pay attention in class and understand the material, you'll be fine. if you dont get it, he'll try to make sure you do before class ends. GREAT GUY!!
cool guy, knows his stuff, his class is fun but it's not an easy A
very cool professor, class was interesting and i didnt mind being there, he is very clear and makes sure that each student understands the material.
very laid back guy and so nice outside the classroom. fair grader
threw me out on the first day of class for snickering. Not very understanding at all. After an apology and begging him to stay, forced me to leave. Hopefully he was just having a bad day, but I dropped the class, cause of horrible first impression
DNY is the most retarded class I've ever been in. I feel sorry for Gabb though because teachers seem to talk to him like he's an idiot. I hate how he has class when he knows he doesn't have anything for us to do. why waste our time?
Great Professor
hes such a funny laid back guy in class. teaches sitting down with his feet up. hes so cool
I think he is one of the nest Professors I have ever had. I will be taking him for the 2nd time next semester!
this class was sooooooooo easy....dr gabb is madd nice and we didn't discover anything about new york, the whole class all we did was have guest speakers...NO TESTS OR PAPERS
I think Dr. Gabb is a great professor. He is one of the best professors I have had. His class was enjoyable and his tests were easy if you took good notes and listened attentively in class. I will be taking him again in the Spring (2004). I recommend him.
Excellent professor! You will leave the class knowing your information very well. Recommended for real students; slackers will fail badly.
Very good man. Take him. My approval is gold sinse I am not a smart guy.
Guys cool he helped me a lot and i learned a whole lot
Don't listen to all of the "praise" this professor gets. Well, apparently he's a nice guy. Classes seem easy, etc. But wait till the test. He makes tests very difficult. He's not helpful. He's not a fair grader either though he'll be nice to you
The class was fairly boring, but the tests were multiple choice. have to study a little.
I love this guy. I hate economics i actually know something now. He is a sweet guy, who is always willing to help a student understand the foundation of what he is teaching.
I think that Dr. Gabb is great. Take his class, he explains everything so well...Would absolutley recommend...
Pay attention, and earn an A. Gives lots of bonus points for test. Nice guy. Questions come from notes.
Dr. Gabb is very nice, but impossible with his test. Instead of testing eco, he tests whether you can think like he does. Buyer beware, take Joliceur instead if you can!
He is one of the hardest teachers in St. Johns, yet if you do your work and express you need help, he'll help alot. His tests are impossible and he understands that. He does his best in making sure you understand the subject. He expects alot from his students but gives alot back in return.
gabbs tests are no joke...you have to pay attention and go to class or yur done for.. real nice guy though..
Nice guy and gives plenty of Bonus points for tests. If you study notes and text, you will be fine in this class. Gets along with all of his students.
yes he is nice he makes jokes etc etc his tests are hard he doesnt test you on what u learned in class but what he said and if u can think like him... he also has a sick way of grading tests. he compares tests to one another based on ur classmates tests! BEWARE
i had him for macro and micro. really good teacher. nice guy but doesnt take your bs. if you go to class and pay attention, its not hard. skip 2 in a row and you'll be lost. take him in the afternoon. if its a nice day and he likes your class he'll teach outside.
gabb is good and gives plenty of extra points but just like some of the other ratings his tests are impossible....i mean give it to us in plain english and not in economics language..... very touchy on phones going off and bathroom breaks and compares students to eachother i mean isn't each student their own individual.....
He may not be the easiest professor, but I was blown away by his ability to challenge his students. He's really good about extra credit points, sense of humor, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in ECO1002 in the spring.
Unfortunately, I had to drop this class, my first time ever! Nice guy-terrible teacher. Does not give you a clear picture on the subject, his exams are NOTHING disscused in class, he does not explain and when you ask him to he directs your question to fellow classmates who have no clue either! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
i like him...he is def a good teacher...has a different style but i works...take note, pay attention and you should be fine...tests r fair u just needa study
I used to hate economics until I took this professor. His tests aren't a piece of cake, but they are not impossible either. You get used to looking for what he wants in an answer. He gives a ton of extra credit and he's got a sense of humor too. I'd recommend him to anybody.
Dr. Gabb is extremely fair. He is a great professor who gives lots of extra credit, which comes in very handy after each test. The material discussed in class is relevant to the world and the U.S., so it makes class interesting. If you can, take him once a week, he always lets the class out an hour early.
Cool guy, but for me his method was a litte boring. An hour and a half of him saying umm...yeahh... His tests were REALLY hard, even though I studied like crazy. However, he must take those extra credit papers into account because I still pulled an A. So overall, fair guy, fair grade, but can be a little hard to get through.
I toke him twice, his 2nd course is easier than the first due to the repeat of course one, MAKE SURE YOU DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT, thats how you get the points, Go up and ANSWER EVER EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION HE gives and you will do great, DO THE EXTRA ESSAY, and make sure you ask Questions, HEs a great guy and really knows his stuff. ++++++
is off topic everyday, jokes on students, makes u feel embarrassed when u have the wrong answer 2 1 of his questions, give u the midterm & the answers just memorize answers, there is no final but u have to write 7 papers & no matter how well u think u wrote on the 1.5 pg pper [single spaced] he`ll give u a C+ on all ur papers, ask 4 extra credit
HE IS THE WORLDS WORST TEACHER EVER..RUN RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN..HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT 1/2 THE TIME AND HIS TESTS ARE BEYOND HARD..I MEAN I HAD BAD TEACHERS BEFORE BUT HE IS BY FAR THE WORST..JUSTT RUNN AND DONT LOOK BACK HONESTLY..HORRIBBLEEE
He is such a great professor. If you pay attention in his class you will love and understand everything. He gives out so much extra credit, and you can get points added to your test if you just answer questions in class. Amazing professor.
I took his M evening class. Kinda simplistic guy, but teaches a lot of info. I hate Econ. but accepted his class. Gives extra credit during class to answer questions, adds them to tests. Fair grader. You should read the chapter and study, not huge work load. Jokes and Helpful! Great profe!
Whoever says he's a bad teacher is wrong! He breaks things down so that they are so simple and makes it comfortable to admit if you still don't understand. He gives out sooo many extra credit points during the class and even if you get it partially wrong he still gives you half credit. Great personality & sense of humor. I was happy with a B!!
I don't know how he grades the papers for DNY, but I think he just likes to mess with people in terms of that. When it comes to the class itself, he's a funny guy. He is laidback and gave us the answers to the midterm, which I didn't argue with. However, getting an A is hard because of his essay grading once again, although I got an A-.

Great Professor. If you don't understand the concept, feel free and ask, and he'll try to explain it until you understand it. His tests are little hard, but he gives a lot of extra points during the class, so make sure you participate. Even if you don't get the right answer he'll give you partial credit for trying. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
Dr Gabb: "Dr Gabb always brings surprises"... Dr Gabb is one of the best professors at SJU. a interesting guy. Very Brilliant! Very easy class, yet i learnt ALOT from it! its a great experience soo far.
Hard tests but he gives a ton of extra credit in class which helps alot. he's not strict with attendance but dont miss class or you'll be lost. dont need to buy the textbook
i had him for a night class and he was a really cool guy, never kept us long at all... basically youre guarenteed a B if you attend every class, and youll get the A if you take the notes...DEF RECOMMEND...EASY...JUST GO TO CLASS
hes really good take him
One of the best professors I had at St. John's! Makes sure you understand everything, doesn't give any hw, makes class fun an interesting and if you attend class every session you have a chance to gain points towards your midterm and final grade. You learn so much even when he lets class out early most days and talks about current issues on some!
Hands down, best professor. There's no homework, lets the class out early most days, and gives you the paper for the midterm and final in advance so you already know all the answers. Hilarious guy, you won't be bored or sleepy if you have him.
TAKE HIM his very helpful. Prepare for surprise extra credit questions! He gives a lot of extra credits. Definitely not an easy A, but if you attend class and pay attention, you are guaranteed to get good grade. good luck!
Great professor. He knows its a boring subject, but does he best to try and make it interesting. I can't imagine a better professor teaching the subject. Very very smart guy.
Not REALLY a class, but still fun. Took a walk off campus, ran improv skits, watched videos, and took an iq test. Papers are easy just do them. Hands out the final exam. Service learning might have been the only hard part of class. Pretty cool guy. Has alot of interesting things to say. Always has a joke or two. Likes if ur witty and participate
Quite possibly the worst teacher at St. Johns. Didn't learn a single thing about NEW YORK even thought the class was discover NEW YORK. Every time i went to class it couldnt have gotten more awkward as he would make a lame joke, or make fun of a student and carry on with it until someone laughed. one positive is he doesnt hold classes on friday.
matters well teach yourself prior to bothering this professor. He is a very smart professor and he knows that. He knows his material yet sometimes he forgets that we are the ones that need to learn the material. It seems to be as if he is tired of teaching as his teaching skills are not the best.Lame jokes and indirectly insults the students.
Probably the best professor I've ever had. He explains everything clearly. Funny guy as well. I thought this class was going to be boring and difficult but he will make sure you understand everything while making it fun. Top notch.
Classes consisted mostly of Dr. Gabb droning on and on about whatever he felt was relevant to New York. We were assigned a total of 6 2-page, single-spaced papers to write as well as a midterm. Positives? No classes on Friday and no final.
This class is an easy A, seriously. He is a very lenient and generous grader. Get good grades on the papers (he assigns 4 papers to do) and the presentations. He gives out answers for the midterm beforehand and there's no final for the class. Overall, just show up to class and do well on the papers/presentations and that's about it.
very bad teacher. never teaches anything about new york that is relevant. grades papers unfairly and suggests everyone go to the writing center to justify his grading. he gives you the midterm and final so you shouldn't fail. i don't think freshman have a choice but if you do, don't take him
When I had DNY this semester I looked him up and saw good ratings BUT DO NOT TAKE HIM. He forgot about class the 1st day. He is so boring. He also gives 3 research papers and the dates are on the syllabus he will NEVER remind you. He grades his papers and always tells people 2 go to writing center even though I have an A in english.
Honestly, I was excited to learn about economics before entering his class. He's boring and doesn't clearly explain anything. I haven't learned anything and barely understand what is going on in this class. He doesn't give homework which is a plus, but he's just boring and repetitive and not helpful.
He's just hard. so hard... im (was) a straight-A student, and he's the only B i got. You have to write essays every week(but i think its schl's requirement) and he gives you poor grades cus he's so fussy about grammar! gives you the exact copy of exam like a week before the exam, and you can't find the answers. but he's nice.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. I enjoyed him, he tells corny jokes but what professor won't? not necessarily the easiest class but if you do the work & at least skim the chapter you're fine.
NO HW OR PAPER. 3 exams- 40MC, emails review sheets, teaches right off them and its exactly whats on the test. if you find the book for $60/less go for it, but not really needed. Comes off as a hard ass, but hes cool, took him twice. cancels class & gives A's. strict about attendance and electronics, no laptops allowed, class participation is a must
His class is hard.I cant even lie.He is a great professor tho.No homework just 3 exams which he prepares you for.Must go to class to keep up.Hes funny and made a 3 hour class tolerable. You need to pay attention and take notes and study. His class is hard but he is very helpful and gives you chances each exam to earn extra points.Take his class!
Class is definitely not easy. You need to go and pay attention. 3 tests and some hw here and there. Hes a nice guy willing to help. Gives out a lot of extra credit.Take good notes! Pay attention & participate and you'll do well.
Not a good professor. Doesn't explain anything, moves too quickly, if you don't understand something he does not help you figure it out, it's hard and you will struggle and be miserable. At the end of the day he does not have your best interest in mind.
very goooood teacher compared to my macro pro :(
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, this guy is the best for economics, he makes everything so simple to understand, he is very good at answering the questions, as a person he has a no laptop policy but overall i liked him
Great Prof! The class is not easy, but if you pay attention you should do just fine. He gives extra points throughout the year, so make sure you get them to help your test grades. ONLY 3 exams all year, so make sure not to bomb one, or it could hurt ya.
He's a great professor but the class is not easy. Pay attention, attend class and you will definitely learn. Attendance is mandatory.
Once you pay attention, he's an absolutely brilliant professor.
Great Prof. class isn't that hard as long as you go and pay attention. Only gives 3 tests, no homework and lots of extra credit opportunities. Need the text book to study. Makes the class interesting and is funny, will help you if you ask. Plus he usually ends class a little early. Definitely recommend taking his class.
I'm not too sure why he has such a low rating, but take him for Econ. There are other professors who assign loads of hw and have much harder tests. The only assignments you have are three tests and to show up to class. His notes are good, all you need to do is pay attention. Plus he gives out so much extra credit, he's not an easy A but hes good..
Best professor Ive had so far. He simplifies everything so it's easy to understand and dont have to spend time memorizing the textbook. Gives no HW, give a lot of extra credit opportunities. Just show up to class, listen to what he says and you'll get a good grade. Amazing professor, I learned a lot!
He's nice but he gives 3 tests and they are very hard. I was happy to get a C, and i would study for days. He keeps you in class the whole time, and doesn't help you if you didn't read the chapter before class. His lectures are slow and hard to keep up with and pay attention too. This class was my most stressful class this semester.
Listen, he tries to keep it interesting and he cares about students doing well. I didn't get the textbook, I tried to focus in class which he let end 30 mins early, and I did make sure he knew who I was. I did extra credits, did well on the first test and not so well on the last two but still got a B+ which I thought was very fair.

Yes, he offers extra credit which is probably the only good thing about the class. He is very knowledgable however he assumes that the students already know the information. He is extremely condescending and I leave his class feeling extremely defeated and stupid. He does not understand that most of us are in CPS and are not econ majors...
Doesn't teach directly from the textbook, but refers to the textbook occasionally just to simplify his point. Very soft-spoken; I always found his class relaxing and therapeutic. Rarely gives homework, but always makes it very clear. His schedule is very flexible; he allows the class to decide when tests will be given. Highly recommended.
He is not a bad professor. He posts the study material online but they don't really align with the exams. Class work and examples seem really easy but exams are harder. He tries really hard to ensure that everyone understands.
Graded on 3 exams and showing up. Takes daily attendance. I did not read textbook. He puts notes on blackboard, utilize that and take notes when he explains things. Ask him questions he will answer. Go to tutoring if you need more help, he gives you extra credit for that. Give an exam review which can get you more extra credit. Taking good notes.
A hard class and doesn't make the class that easy to understand. Only 3 test but it's hard to get your grade up if you have low tests scores. No homework or nothing but the material is hard especially if you're not an econ major.
I took ECO1001 and 1002. Solid Professor. Got to class, lecture is what makes you understand. Listen to his examples, they help you. Take notes like you care. There is textbook, never read it. 3 tests. Gives good reviews. Extra Credit. However I am a good test taker. You may need tutoring or use textbook. Nice guy average class. You can pass.
If you ever wanted a professor who looks like Peter Capaldi as The Twelfth Doctor, then he's your guy. Class is really straightforward, no surprises, lectures are actually kind of relaxing. Just pay attention in class, take notes, use the textbook if you need it (it's not mandatory), and you should do just fine.
great professor and helps you out whenever you ask questions i dont even bother leaving feedback to anyone but he came through when he gave everyone the oppurtnity for extra cred
one of the best eco professors
The guy is kinda dull and doesn't make the lectures interesting. Tests are tough as well. He's an adjunct so don't expect him to be able to help you with any questions. He seems like he has a more important agenda than teaching in the classroom.
Hands down best econ teacher. Funny, relaxed and lenient. His exams are tricky but as long as you pay attention and read the book, you'll be fine. He gives extra credit points every class and he boosts up your grade if you participate or come to every class.
Professor Gab is a very intelligent person. He knows a lot about Econ. This class is made up of 3 tests. I recommend going to tutoring if Econ isnt your strong suit. Dr. Gab understands that Econ is a difficult subject and if he sees your effort in class he will work with you. I Recommend him for anyone taking a Econ class.
Professor Gabb's online course is very tough. Discussion board questions are fine, but if you do the homework on the day it is due he takes off points and says you didnt spend enough time. Tests are very unforgiving and he takes off for the smallest things on his homeworks. Do not recommend. My 3.8 GPA was destroyed by this guy.
This was a 3 hour class, he was willing to answer questions but was very boring. He did not keep the lessons interesting just lectured for the three hours. There are only 3 tests with no homework or quizzes so you needed to do well. There should've been more factors that went into your grade. He wasn't open to extra credit or make ups. Boring man.
I love Professor Gabb! You really have to listen to his lectures and participation matters. If you care for his class, he will care for you. If you have a perfect attendance, he boosts your grade by a letter grade.
He's a nice guy BUT he honestly doesn't care if you understand the material or not. He doesn't explain the topics clearly. Literally, goes over the material once. You just have to read the textbook and teach yourself. Plus, there are only three tests (90%) that he grades from and attendance is important (10%).
(SUMMER COURSE) He was great & kept things interesting. He slips in jokes & tells funny stories. His tests are fair & online & he did review prior which he gave us 7 Q/&A for. He does care & offers to go over topics multiple times. He offers extra points for participation throughout the semester tht r applied to test. Loved him as a person & a prof
I took this class in the summer and this professor made the lectures somewhat bearable. There are three tests (all of which are about 50 multiple choice questions each). He also has a review day prior to each exam and USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE because you can score a lot of extra credit for this class. Take good notes and study and you'll be fine.
Definitely one of the best in the department. For micro, I learnt a lot that I can apply to my life. He is nice and accommodating. Boosts your grade if you have good attendance. Youll do fine if you pay attention and read. Some of his lectures and tangents are interesting, but some are dry. He also has to write darker on the board.
I took professor Gabb's course over a decade ago and I still think about him today. Honestly, such a standup guy. Really has a knack for breaking down high concepts in laymen's terms and very much places emphasis on economics as a social science. Couldn't recommend him enough. Life changing course
