Political Economy has never been so boring, or so easy! Don't buy the book...
SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND...yea..NO BOOK needed...hard test..choose a new teach.
EASY EASY EASY EASY dont buy the book and don't change professors whatever u do
*NOT* easy easy easy. I have a 3.9 GPA and its looking like I am going to get a B. Tests and quizes are HARD. Did I mention he can't speak english? Change to Zuk!!
Of you think Dr. Gadzey's Lab quizzes are hard, then i cannot wait until you get in the 'real' world. His class is a breeze. I passed with a high B literally w/o opening a book. DO NOT CHANGE PROFESSORS i promise anyone can make a good grade in this class
He's very caring and genuine. He's a little boring and a little hard to understand, but you get used to it, and he scales. You'll be fine if you stay in his class.
The class was not hard, just show up. He is difficult to understand at times but he is willing to help anyone that goes to him.
He does not make sense and his book makes no sense and he is sooo boring. His tests are very hard
i will clear the confusion:no,he is not too boring.yes,he is hard to understand for the first two weeks.yes,he is VERY caring and kind. No, his test are not hard.use his class as study hour and then read the book before the test and you are gauranteed a C.
He is very hard to understand. I sit in every class staring at the wall...I don't understand anything he says. He can't speak english. He says he's married and has kids, but he doesn't wear and wedding band- sketch, I know! Switch to English speaking prof
If you know whats good for you, DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT take this class. He thinks his opinions are fact, meanwhile biased!!!!
He is only hard if you don't go to class. Just write down what he writes on the boaard and study it for the test. The class was an easy A.
He is not that bad. Boring class but make sure and go because he gives extra credit for being there every day. Read the book and study his online notes and you will be fine. It is not that bad of a class. Study and you will make an A.
Heh, this is an easy class. Plus Dr Gadzey is so funny. I went to his class just to listen to talk. He's really a nice person plus all you have to do is know like 3 main concepts and you'll get an A.
Very disorganized and course packets is full of mistakes and wrong information about Congressional facts. Often reads from notes on the overhead without actually adding anything to clarify. Generally unclear about what material will be covered on tests.
very nice guy, helpful when you need him. His notes pretty much go hand in hand with his textbook, so just highlight whatever he displays in the book and study that.
Everything he talks about in class in irrelivant. He makes mistakes all the time and does not fess up to them. Without the GTA's the class would be impossible. My advice, stay away from him! There are plety of great prof. at AU, he isnt one of them.
His class is easy of you do the study guides and go to lab. You cant understand a word he says in class but the GTA's clarify it in lab and the tests are very clear. The web site gives most of the info you need.
He was very hard to understand, and if you had a question outside of class you had to ask your GTA who most likely knew almost nothing about the subject. I made an A in his class only because I had taken so many other economics classes.
Oh MY GOD!! He's impossible. He knows the material but CANNOT teach it. He's an awful teacher. His tests are are very hard to understand. I mean I made a B, & I rarely make Bs. AVOID him if you can.
So long as you answer those study questions at the end of the chapter you got it made in this class. A really good GTA helps too
I've taken two of Dr Gadzey's classes and I made two As. He's probably the nicest and most helpful teacher I've had. Just go by his office a few times!
Hard o understand and very unclear test questions
Gadzey is very hard to understand. The saving grace of this class is in lab, where the GTAs explain everything better. But since his attendance policy is VERY STRICT, you have to go to class and sit through extremely boring lectures. He is not very lenient with test grades, either.
his accent is bad and his class is boring. he's anal about attendence so if you get him don't skip any class. you can fail on absenses alone. he gets off subject alot so his classes don't cover much material.
Hard to understand, goes over material too fast! Get another teacher!
His accent is very hard to understand and you HAVE to go to class. It is so so boring but the GTAs are nice. They explain better than he does and if you have good GTAs you can pass the class. Remember to read!!!Alot!!!
Very boring lectures, and you have to attend class because his attendance policy is VERY STRICT. You could fail from absences... GTA's explain everything much better than he does; his lectures are often off topic... I would not recommend taking him, find someone else if you can.
very unclear and boring lectures, extremely unorganized notes, not very eager to help.
Be careful of putting your faith in the poor respones for the 1020 class, its a freshman level class and they keep complaining about the attendence policy, hard working students? makes you wonder. I made an A in his class, he knows his stuff, not very personal however, a good teacher but not great
His lectures are very boring. Book is helpful but long and very detailed. ATTENDANCE IS VITAL TO MAKING A GOOD GRADE. He is very strict on this. I made an A but the extra credit did it. Get all bonuses right on "puzzles" and get all the extra credit you can, trust me. "CHEST OUT !!" lol(you'll see)
Listen, you SHOULD be in class everyday. If not you can't expect to succeed. His exams are ALL about application, that's the key to success in his class. I got an A and so did many others. Trust me, if you show interest he will help you. Outside of class he's a nice guy. Good Luck!
This class is the only class I made an A in at Auburn so far. Attendance is a must, you get tons of bonus, if you pay attention in the lab, and read you can do awesome. I never listened in lecture and did other homework. Dr.Gadzey is a nice guy outside of class, and definately willing to help.
he is so nice. not clear though.what he teaches is not whats tested on. funny but mostly boring. good storys but get ready for out of the blue test. attendance is key for a good grade.
BEWARE!! I took this class as a senior in Poli-sci with a 3.6 GPA. Barely got a C! By far the hardest class I took at AU. Tests come from out of nowhere. This guy single-handedly makes me never want to give money to my alma mater. He is Piss Poor
very funny man, hard to understand though...you MUST come to class everyday and go to labs. the labs aren't bad and the GTAs are more clear on the material than Gadzey. i made an A with minimal effort
Could not understand what he was talking about the entire semester. But the GTA's were VERY helpful and that's the only reason why I passed the class. I would drop if you could, but if you can't you should be fine, just be ready to work hard.
You can hardly understand the man, he's an ordained Catholic priest and Communist. The entire class is nothing but theory, it learned absolutely nothing, I struggled quite a bit, but he gave me some extra credit so I could pass w/ a "C". Take him only if absolutely necessary.
This class was a nightmare! If there is any way you can get another professor, do it! His accent is very hard to understand and the tests are written just like he talks. He says he's willing to help with anything you need, but he just repeats himself and you leave his office more confused then when you got there!
As long as you come to class and read the required readings, you will make at least a B in this class. Tests are fairly easy and he uses a lot of the same questions on the test from the internet site of the book.
His test are hard. If you talk to him he will help you out as much as posible. he will curve your test. make sure you go to class!! he gives major points for attendence. I really liked him he is real nice guy. He tells many stories about his home land. I really enjoyed his class.
He is a little difficult to understand at first, but it gets easier as the semester progresses. Go to class, study the notes from the web, and do the extra credit and you can get an A easily. He is a very nice guy and will do anything to help you.
Very interest professor. Will talk the entire class period on one page of the text book sometimes. He really wants his students to succeed and will give curves sometimes. Take notes on everything in class and read the text book and you will get a B, which is what i got.
By far my favorite professor at Auburn! His class isn't hard as long as you are willing to put forth the effort. Of course, if you expect to never study or go to class and still get an A: you've got the wrong guy!
One of the best professors in the POLI SCI department. I just graduated and unfortunately had Dr. Gadzey my last semester. I would have taken every class possible with him if I had found him sooner. His class is challenging but well worth the effort. If you do the work you'll make the grade
Difficult to understand. The GTA's made the class pretty easy though. I was late every day and rarely crached a book and made a B. Buy U-notes if availible, consult the GTA's often and you shouldn't have any problems making at least a B.
Very difficult to understand. Lecture is a nightmare. Lab is your only hope of success. He is pretty willing to help you out, but don't expect much. The textbook (which he wrote) is hard to understand.
The best professor I have had. The people who don't like this professor have to be the one's that are just lazy and don't come to class. The only way to fail is just to plain not show up. There is so much info availabe that if you read when your supposed to and do the assignments you have it made. Give a tremendous amount of Bonus Points. Easy A.
If you dont like to waste your time, dont take this class. The teacher was impossible to understand and attendance is required. So you go to class and sit there and have no idea what he's saying. Even better, he wrote the book for the class, so theres no outside help. you can learn the material yourself easily but class is pointless.
Nice guy, the worst teacher EVER.
Wonderful teacher...one of the best teachers I have ever had. Brilliant and very knowledgeable but student has to want to listen and learn. Always willing to help. Chance for extra credit. Must attend class. Tests follow the study questions he hands out. Native Ghanian so should be tolerant of typos and differences in English. Great perspective on
This is the worst class I've ever had. He's nice enough, but impossible to understand because his English is horrible. Lab was a life saver.
very hard understand. dont take him! test are impossible and attendence is manditory!
Hard to understand. Lectures are so boring and mandatory. Try to put it off as long as you can. Not an easy A. Nice guy and funny sometimes.
Hard to understand at first. His test are VERY tricky. It is important to go to ALL of his lectures it will be the difference in a letter grade. I finished with a B but with all the bonus and attendance got a A.
He is hard to understand. Very liberal. He tried teaching a conservative class that pretty much the entire Bush administration is the devil & it made the class mad. His notes were not clear & I they are based on his opinion.
Yes, Gadzey is difficult to understand BUT it is not a difficult class. If you simply read his book and pay attention in class an A is not difficult. Love him! And it helps if you get in good with his TA.
I took this class a long time ago, and while I did have a dispute with a test question once I found it to be a great class, very informative, and if you read the textbook (which was easy to read and short) it's an easy class. I don't understand why people have such a hard time. If you don't get it, that's not the prof's fault, it's yours.
He is EXTREMELY broing. The tests are awful. The questions on the test are worded all crazy and often more than one correct answer but he swears there is only one. He talks about things are offensive to people. He is not all that helpful. He is a minister, so I hope he ministers better than he teaches. I don't recommend him at all!
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. His english is horrible, lectures are boring, TA's don't know anything and will argue with you anyways. Tests consist of things that he thinks he talked about and all of the answers are correct, he just wants you to pick the one he would pick. Take a different course if possible.
Class can be confusing. His english isn't very good but he does make some pretty funny jokes. Show up to class, listen to the GTA's, and read and anyone can make a B.
You can't understand a Word he says!
good teacher but boring class. his english isnt that great but he tries. his lectures tend to go off topic && his tests are really awful. i failed every test and quiz but got a C by just going to class. HE WILL NOT FAIL YOU IF YOU GO TO CLASS. the book is the class's bible.
Awful, awful professor. Spends all of class giving his opinions on religion and politics. Is hard to communicate with, and his test questions are extremely ambiguous. You spend all of class being insanely bored because he doesn't make any sense. A nice guy, but I will never take him again. If you go to every class, he will try not to fail you.
Cannot understand him, he goes off on tangents about things and mumbles. Wrote one of the books, it goes it circles just like his lectures. Tests are awful, he swears there is ONE correct answer but a lot of the questions could have several correct answers. Won't take him again.
Hard to understand at times if you are not used to hearing foreign people speak. Very biased and liberal. The GTA will be your lifeline if you want to pass the class. The same goes for the textbook, which he wrote. Make sure you get your book and READ it, ALL of it. Scribbling down notes in the book helps. Go to class.
He no longer gives extra points for attendance, and I barely went to class and made an A. If you have a good GTA, they pretty much give you all the material on his tests, so go to labs!! You don't have to read the book word for word, just make sure you know the major concepts. Not hard but you have to study!
I'm in his class right now, while writing this. He is terrible. Avoid if possible. Very liberal and hard to understand. I have a low B in here but i'm and A student and the class is not worth it. We have an exam worth a 25% of our grade on the monday after spring break.
You cannot understand what he says. He makes references to historical events incorporating people that died way before the event happened (French Revolution & Joan of Ark - NO LIE). His tests are multiple choice but there's no way to get an A. He never stays on task. We go through an average of 3 slides per day. He's awful. Don't take him.
Hard to understand. GTA spoke like she'd gotten off the plane from Thailand and walked into class so that was no help either. I didn't think it was that difficult. If you understand a concept then you can answer like 10 questions on his test which is alot (usually like 40). i studied like 3 days out and studied all night the night before the test
Go to class and read the book, it helps. Don't pay attention to his historical references because I'm pretty sure Galileo did not paint the Sistine Chapel. However, he is very nice and gives out many bonus points, so there really is no reason not to at least get a B. Also taking him for POLI 3510. I learned a lot.
Very easy class. If you have a clue and pay average attention, you will ace this. Slept through half of the classes, NEVER studied, got an A in the class. Show up, the points for attendance help. Beware outdated info - Keynesianism fell out of favor in the 1980s, FYI. And don't trust his history, either.
Very unorganized, strays off topic all the time, and screws up basic facts every class! Show up to class and you'll easily make an A or B but do so with risk of personal injury, as you'll most likely be wanting to bang your head against a desk during his lectures.
People get too hung up on his accent. I have talked to him in person and he is a lot smarter than you realize. His class is fair and he understands Political Economy better than most I know. He is not liberal, but he comes off that way to many of the right wingers that go to Auburn.
I only went to the lectures like once a week maybe and made an A. The GTA's made everything easy to understand in the labs, so go to those for clarity if you think his accent is bad(I thought it was just fine though) Nice class
Make sure to read the text book because sometimes it's hard to follow him in his lectures. Not a hard class, but the material covered isn't interesting unless you like economics.
I got an A, but I didn't learn anything!
Attendance is mandatory, but class is boring. Read book and look over notes he sells and you will do great. Weekly quizzes, so go to lab. Super easy B, still a pretty easy A. Really loved this class all in all mainly because it was easy. Same GTA has it next semester, so test will be easy and straightforward again. BUY HIS NOTES.
Overall a good teacher. Take him if you want to take poli econ. Attendance is mandatory but it also part of your grade. Test are fairly easy, hes a fair grader and offers extra credit assignments at random during class. GTA's are very helpful. His accent is thick, but you can understand him no problem.
Super super easy professor. I literally never studied and got an A. I got 10 extra points for just attending class. Yes, he is very difficult to understand. But the GTAs were helpful.
good teacher come to class and you are in good standign come to office to pick up what was not said in class beacuse you can get confused by speech but overall a fun and enjoyable class.
I didn't learn a single thing, but it was super easy. Just get the notes, go to class, and highlight what he says is important.
He was not very helpful at all throughout the class and pretty much read off of the powerpoints. He makes class attendance mandatory, so you spend the class reading the powerpoints you already have. Overall the class wasn't that difficult but I learned very little.
His accent isn't as bad as people make it seem. He confuses idioms, but you do get the gist of what he's saying. GTA more or less completely handles grading, but if you have questions he is always happy to talk with you as long as you need. Some might find it boring, and he won't stand up there doing cartwheels but he's a good lectur
His class was very easy. Just study PowerPoints & reader. BUY HIS NOTES and the textbook. He won't let you take the exam without them. 10 bonus points on final grade for perfect attendance. Just go and you will do fine
Class was unbelievably boring but if you go to class daily, register attendance, and semi pay attention you will be fine. DEFINITELY BUY THE READER!!! I never looked at the book once the whole semester. The study guides are EXACTLY what will be on the test. Study ONLY what is on the guide and it'll be fine. Would recommend and take his class again!
if you go to class youll be fine, just sit there pretend to look interested and the attendecne grade pays for itself. The GTA and study guide are what matter. very nice guy but goes off on tangents, easy A as long as your willing to put forward a little studying effort by following the guide word for word.
He is really nice, but his class is so boring. Wanted to fall asleep most of the time. You have to use a clicker at the end of each class for attendance. Just do the study guides for the midterm and final and put some effort into the group project and you've got an easy A.
Prof. Gadzey is not the best professor for Global Politics, but this is a very easy class. He has a group project that is very easy. His study guides are exactly what will be on the test. Doing that plus attendance points will get you an easy A with built in 10% bonus. The only problem is that he is not a good lecturer, and you will not learn much.
Dr. Gadzey is a very nice man, and all he really asks from you in the class is to show up and not talk. While the class was informative, he's not a very good lecturer and tends to go on tangents. BUY THE SOFY NOTES!! I recommend the class to anyone looking for a quick GPA boost or anyone who's interested in current issues.
Very easy A. Grade based on a paper, midterm, and final. Attendance is required but good attendance will get your extra credit. Class is not that interesting but an easy GPA boost or core social science. Never opened the textbook but make sure you buy his notes at Sofy Copy. Study guide given before exams, only studied the night before.
Dr. Gadzey is an amazing professor! He sometimes messes up, but it's understandable. His tests are just the study guides.
Dr. Gadzey is a wonderful professor who tries to make all students interested in global issues. He does get aggravated that some students do not show up except on quiz days or if you use your phone in class. Also, buy Sofy copy book(this will be your best friend), do the study guides, and do well on the paper and you will be fine.
He has an accent that can be hard to understand at times. It is the most boring class you will ever take. You can't have more than 5 unexcused absences, but you need to go to class for pop quizzes anyways. You have to do a group paper with 2 other people on a foreign student, which is annoying because you have to find a student to interview
This class was way harder than it had to be. I couldn't understand a word he said all semester. Also the TA was sassy and annoying.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. I took this as a humanities credit and it was the worst decision. I cannot understand anything he says and his tests are much harder than they should be. The wording of questions is tricky and there is material on the test that he hasn't covered. The GTA was also of no help.
Unless you are very interested in the UN and international relations, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Mandatory attendance - misses come out of your final grade and you only get up to 5 before you get an FA. The class is SO boring. He is not amazingly fluid in english and rambles on about nothing. You can't have cell phones or laptops or talk. Miserable.
Gadzey was a great guy but I did not enjoy his class. I thought it would be an interesting humanities course, but I struggled all semester. The tests only cover information from his SOFY-copy book and random information he never covered. The GTA was not extremely helpful either. I would only take this class if it is something you take interest in.
Professor Gadzey was one of the best teachers I have ever had. This class may not be the most interesting but it is definitely not one that you have stress over. If you read the typed up notes book he requires you to get for class you'll be fine. He also gives extra credit so there is no way you can fail his class.
He is a great prof. and very dedicated. I have had him for 4 diff. poli classes. make sure to study his book and pay attention to what he says in class bc will most likely be on tests. definitely go to him if you have questions. As long as your interested in politics on global level and read before class you will have no prob making an A.
Professor Gadzey is on of the most interesting professors to take about global politics. Do what you are suppose to do as a student: read, ask questions, and go to office hours if you are confused and you can make an A.
Gadzey is a funny guy, but his lectures are VERY boring. He will make you buy a book that has all the notes for the semester, so going to class becomes obsolete, but attendance is mandatory. Gives tons of bonus, and a study guide for each test so its an easy A, just very boring to sit through.
Take Dr Gadzey if you're interested in the subject matter. He sticks pretty closely to his PowerPoints and lectures can get rather boring, but if you ask questions in class and visit his office to talk with him about politics, the lectures will be more valuable. I think he's better suited to smaller, more advanced courses than easy ones.
Hard to understand. Scariest man ever. Only way I got an A was the bonuses and the GTA. Material is boring, and he goes on rants that have nothing to do with the subject.
Boring lectures and he goes off on random tangents. Tests are semi-easy, all of the info for them is straight from his book so if you outline the chapter before the test then it's an easy A. Also, if you ask him questions during the test then he will help you ALOT! Annoying that all you really need is the SOFY copy book and the textbook is useless
The class is really easy and the tests are pretty much word for word from the powerpoints HOWEVER its the most boring class I have ever taken. He literally reads off the powerpoint for 50 minutes. Then he goes off on random tangents that have nothing to do with what hes talking about. Also he likes to call out people in front of the class.
Gadzey is a wonderful man with a lot of knowledge and things to offer. He is quite old and from Ghana and can be hard to understand but he is very forgiving with grades and absences. He really wants his students to learn and do well in his class... lectures may be a bit boring because its form the book BUT they are helpful in getting an A.
This class was actually slightly interesting, but the attendance policy killed me. I would have had a B if it weren't for that. The lectures are extremely long and painfully boring, but when you actually start studying the book he makes you buy, it is interesting. Make sure you don't miss more than 5 classes or you will not get w good grade.
He was very helpful but hard to understand.
Dr. Gadzey is so sweet and so knowledgeable on Global Studies. Yes, his lectures are boring and you can't understand him but his extra credit opportunities is what makes this class. He gives you up to 10 FINAL BONUS POINTS. That is an entire letter grade. He also is open to progressive grading which is so useful if you bomb the first test. Easy A.
He was good but acent
can not understand a word he says ever but then tests you on what he says
CANNOT UNDERSTAND HIM, but gives great bonus opportunities
I really don't know why Gadzey has a bad rating on here.. his class is lecture heavy and he has a strict attendance policy, but if you put in effort and study the study guide, you'll do well. His tests are straightforward and his accent isn't bad at all; I actually don't know anyone who can't understand him. Unfortunately, he is retiring though
I think Dr. Gadzey's class was very insightful, but I wasn't and I still am not interested in global politics. Dr. Gadzey gives bonus points which helped me tremendously and he also values attendance. He is retiring after the spring semester, but if you're taking him in the spring make sure you read the syllabus and attend all classes.
Dr. Gadzey is a very knowledgeable man- outside of his accent and scattered comments, he is a wonderful professor. Attend class and make a point to speak with him at some point throughout the year- he appreciates this and will be more likely to grant bonus points. I paid attention during class (minimally) and didn't stress over tests.
It is a hard class.
