many essay exams
No Comments
Gulig is a fool. I have never had such an uninteresting and unethical professor in my entire life. He needs to get things together...what a loser
The only way that you can understand this class is if you have seen all of the horrible movies that he compares everything to. He also grades unfairly and his class is extremely unorganized!
fun class
I found this teacher to be ****...I do not think a student should go to class and get made fun of by a teacher...don't take him
he was tight**** i would recomend him to anyone, there isnt much homework involved, hes and awesome teacher
Many great stories - fun to listen to because he speaks his mind but with academic prowess. He doesn't make fun of people, he is just honest.
This guy was recommended by a few friends but he is SUCH a $#&@. He does not use any visual materials which makes notetaking impossible-- Just lectures off the top of his head. Honestly, I'd say only take Gulig if you're really into history.
I had Gulig for two classes and my advice... get to know him. His lectures become more interesting if you know him on a more personal level. And his tests... talk to him about what you plan on writing in your essay and he'll tell you if you are on the right track. Great guy!
This guy is a total prick! Only take him if you like failing for really retarded reasons!! I retook the class and am doing great(with a different professor I might add!) I would only take him if you truly like boring lectures and hard exams!!
He actually made me start to like history, and I didn't mind coming to class. There was a TON of reading though, but if you do the reading you will do SOOOO much better on the exams than if you don't do the readings.....I was NEVER a history buff, but I still managed an A with a reasonable amount of effort...and so can you! Good Luck!!
normally i HATE history, but i really enjoyed this class. he shows the interconnectedness of history and made it really interesting. the tests were super easy because he gave out study guides with the exact questions that were going to be on the test, just missing answers. i got an a in the class and didn't do a whole lot of work.
Professor Gulig is the bomb diggity! He makes history very, VERY interesting! He tells HILARIOUS jokes, and for his exams he hands out study guides that have the SAME EXACT questions as the tests...all you have to do is find the answers on your own and memorize them. It's that simple! He does in class writings too, so attendance is important!:)
Get ready to hear about cod. Otherwise a good lecturer and all around good guy.
He's hilarious, almost to a fault. He goes off tangents to the point where not much is covered. He's really good though, and the class for me was cake. Written assignments are simple, tests demand going through the books even if he does post most of the test on D2L.
His lectures are upbeat, has a good sense of humor, and not gonna lie, he's a cutie (if you like older men that is)... He's random too.
Great, funny guy. The tests are multiple choice and essay, and he grades fairly. There are no surprises on the tests, either.
He's great and he really makes learning fun!
He so far has been my favorite professor here at UW-Whi****er. His classes are funny so I really listened instead of daydreamed about other stuff....Homework rarely happens and when it does it's not that bad.
Tony is a great teacher, i've had him a few times. his lectures are totally off the top of his head, which makes you pay attention. make sure you read and take notes on the readings, that's what the exams are on, which are both essay and multiple choice, which makes them easy. just read and pay attention cause he makes history fun!
I had him for Atlantic Hist. my freshman year-- I hate history, but by the time I finished this class I liked it. The way he incorporated humor into his lectures and yet knew when to be serious was a huge plus and made me pay attention (even though it was my biggest class at the University). Best class I took at WW!
He's a great teacher an really enjoys what he teaches. He makes it fun and interesting. Wish i could take more classes with him. everyone needs to have atleast one class with him.
Awesome professor. He's really funny, especially if you have him in the early morning. He let's you eat/drink in class. Writing assignments online are really easy, 1-2 paragraphs. His tests are somewhat tricky, there are a few trick questions. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he loves them nd he'll give you a straight answer.
Engaging. Knows material pretty much inside out. Discussion in class is encouraged. Students encouraged to find their interest in the subject matter and go with it. Helpful in class, and in general...has an open door policy, and not just in word as some professors, he really does. Gave him a hot because being engaged in history is hot.
Great professor! Very funny guy. His class is very easy. If you show up for class you will probably get an A. Tests are very easy too. He pretty much just gives away the answers.
He does not answer emails, there are no power points or online notes, pay close attention to the readings every once in a blue moon you'll get a pop quiz in lecture, take extremely good notes-they're the only thing that'll save you in the D2L quizes.
His lectures were very unorganized. In order to pass the exams, you needed to write down everything he said, do the readings, and watch the films. Likes to call out on students during class.
Lectures were unclear and I never knew what to take notes on. The reading requirements were too much to ask for an elective class.
Talks too much about meaningless things. We might learn more if he talked about things that actually have to do with our class; he gets off on tangents way too easy.
Prof. Gulig is a great guy and funny as well. Sometimes he can get off on tangents giving you the impression that some lectures feel useless. The class is a pretty easy A as long as you read, show up regularly, and take the little notes that there are.
Syllabus had readings that were lengthy and boring. He did not tell you what assignments were due except on the due date. Multiple tangents and I did not ever know what to take notes on. Papers felt unclear and I never knew what was expected. Went over assignments very infrequently.
I learned so much from a class that i expected to learn nothing from His way of teaching was critical and insightful and he's hilarious.
Dr. Gulig overall is a great professor. He's hilarious, friendly, and approaches his topics objectively for the most part. His main drawback is that he gets sidetracked on tangents, and lectures can wander far and wide from the original topic. I have taken several of his classes, he teaches well, is very helpful, and grades fairly.
I think people like him because he is chill and spends most of the class talking about himself. But when it comes down to assignments and exams they are down right impossible and he is absolutely no help.
Get ready to read- the assignments are dozens of pages of readings. The lectures are not super important, he mainly just tells personal stories which is funny, but can make the exams a bit harder. Overall, a super cool person though.
He can go off on tangents, but they're fun and usually somewhat relevant! He really knows his stuff when it comes to American Indian History, and tells it fairly. Not a tough grader-just wants you to learn. I admit, I don't do all the reading, but I still am doing fine. Two big papers and quizzes that you can take as many times as needed. A fave!!
Tony is a great guy, get to class early and chat with him a bit and he will remember you and grade you more easily. I really liked this course, but Tony made it so much better!
Tony gives off a very "Gruff Tough History Buff" kinda vibe but he's a real champion. He is VERY clear about what will be on his tests which makes them simple but beneficial. He's very funny and loves to chat. Honestly just a really cool guy. He's very smart but he relates well to his students. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS!
Gulig is a great professor, he can be tough some times but overall he is awesome. I have had him for 4 classes and he is very knowledgeable on the subjects he teaches. Yes he can be a tough grader but as long as you follow the guidelines he gives you you will do fine. He is very easy to talk to and wants you to succeed.
Super funny, which makes class enjoyable and interesting. I would take as many courses as I can with him.
Prof. Gulig is absolutely hilarious and makes lectures enjoyable. He is extremely knowledgeable but can oftentimes go on tangents that don't really relate to the class. You have weekly quizzes to do online along with chapter readings, but they aren't difficult if you do the readings. Midterm and final are essay-based.
Prof. Gulig is an amazing guy, he is so funny and relates well to his students. While, there are not many assignments it is important that you participate in class and don't start your paper the night before. During Covid-19 he was the best professor, SUPER accommodating. I would recommend him for anyone taking this class.
Gulig is only professor of HIST150 that deserves any respect. He makes boring topics interesting and gives memorable stories and anecdotes that relate to the material he teaches. He treats his students like people with brains (which is rare among college professors).
Professor Gulig is hilarious and super sarcastic. Loves telling stories and making lectures interesting. Loves when students ask questions and will call on you even if you don't raise your hand. HATES when students use their phones during class. Two 5 page writing assignments and a quiz every week online which isn't too bad. Definitely take him!
This guy makes history interesting! You'll want to participate in class. No really - PARTICIPATE! Ask questions. Then ask another. He likes that. And... of course wear plaid on Wednesdays. Plan to write good papers and you will be fine.
Great guy, very understanding- deserves a way better rating.
gives out a lot of HW every week but his class are pretty enjoyable for the most part. I say if you don't like reading or don't like taking quiz he's not the right professor for you. But he definitely knows his stuff probably more then most professors.
Lacks certain aspects and qualities to be considered great. With grading and assignments, comments and instruction are vague enough that you have to email for more info. Responses to emails are usually rude or he will send you a response letting you know that your email was deleted because you forgot to include your class section, very infuriating
Tony Gulig is one of the most inconsiderate professors I have met in my 5 year college career. His comments on assignments are incredibly useless and when you email him for help he is rude and incredibly unhelpful. A fun lecturer and a nice guy, but a horrible professor. Also 1 exam is 22.5% of your grade and he's a tough grader. Went from a 98-73
God-awful. Never take this professor. I'm a senior at WW and this is the only class that I have ever taken where reading the assigned readings to the letter does not guarantee knowing what is on the quizzes. Which, by the way, comprise almost the entire class grade. Half of the quiz questions are on random, ridiculously specific nonsense. Terrible.
Terrible professor. Terrible class. I haven't ever hated a class this much and it's because of the almost quiz-only structure of the class, quiz questions not covered in readings, and not offering even recorded lectures online in the height of COVID. I wish I could swear in this and I wish it could be as many characters as I want. Just awful.
Curriculum: 3 (4-5 page) Turabian citation style papers- hefty percentage of the grade- as well as a quiz a week. His quizzes are based mainly on lectures, listen and take notes. Vague when answering questions and talks fast during lectures. Textbook reading weekly as well. Do the work and you'll pass. Ask questions and participate!
The classes are interesting enough, but this professor demonstrates why professors should require education classes like all other teachers. Especially in the era of covid, its clear that Gulig was never taught how to teach or make his classes accessible. No covid accomodations and rambling lectures with sometimes little point.
If you have the chance to take a class with Prof Gulig, take it. Show up to class, ask questions, and pay attention during the lectures. If you take good notes and keep the textbook and readings handy during weekly quizzes but you can do well. Ask for help outside of class. He is the best part of Whitewater.
Dr. Guligs class is a lot of fun. He really wants his students to engage and with each other and with the course. If you pay attention to the lectures and take good notes, the class is pretty easy.
Grades are given through film worksheet, which are simple enough, and tests. Very unorganized lectures, has no notes posted on board during class or online, yet its expected for the student to write down what he says as his lectures are part of the test questions. Tests are poorly created, oddly specific questions from class that are easy to miss.
He makes his history through film class hard for no reason. Can come off sort of rude sometimes, but I think it is his way of humor.
Worst class. His deadlines are final, no matter what. He doesn't care if you have technology issues and is unwilling to take written assignments if you do (I speak from experience). Tests make up 75% of grade and are hard as heck. Long lectures. Long readings that don't help on exams, so don't bother with them. Overall, horrible experience.
Gulig is a nice, interesting professor but I haven't learned much in the class. A lot of the lectures tend to go off into storytelling that does not relate to the questions on the quiz. The class is much more a "teach yourself" type in my opinion. Make sure to read because the quizzes will usually be on the readings rather than the lectures.
Dr. Gulig is an interesting guy. He is knowledgeable about American History, but lets his political bias get in the way as a History teacher at times. He requires you to read a chapter a week and watch a video he assigns. The Midterm and Final requires two 750 word essays and a primary source paper that you choose before 1877. *he's Very Sarcastic*
LISTEN- Gulig is awesome. Great guy and fun to listen to. BUT if you are thinking of taking this class for an easy A DO NOT DO IT. The lecture, readings, and videos are interesting but the content on the quizzes is hard. You will not do as well as you think. If you dont care if you get an A or not definitely take this class because it is useful.
My only complaint is the quizzes. One every week, and he has consistently put questions on the quizzes that are from chapters in the textbook that are assigned WEEKS ahead of the quizzes. You were never prepared for the quizzes with the material you were told would prepare you. If this is fixed absolutely a 4.5/5 professor.
lectures are just him rambling about random tangents. There is a quiz every week that includes random pieces of info covered in his "lecture" that are totally unimportant, like the difference between short and long strand cotton. Like what? not too difficult, but lectures are super boring to get through and he gets super political in class.
Do not take Tony Gulig! He accused me of plagiarizing and using non-scholarly sources in my essay, which I did not. I tried talking to him about it but he is very difficult. Lectures are just awful and it is impossible to take notes because he rambles. I could have fought for a grade appeal but chose to just drop because he stresses me out.
Not bad. One quiz a week. 2 papers. Can be really fun and entertaining during lectures at times. If you aren't great at history already may wanna rethink.
I watched the lectures but they are clearly spoken by a woman, or some person has a very high voice. Anthony goes by he/him and I looked through to see that through Whitewater's website, he does not look like the person to have that feminine voice. So who am I watching/listening to for the lectures? The content is not even helping for the quizzes.
DO NOT TAKE! Tony Gulig was the worst professor I've ever taken. His lectures are him going off on a tangent and asking the class for questions they have instead of actually reviewing the material. Every week, there are long readings from an online textbook and follow-up quizzes on the smallest details that are useless. HE DOES NOT LIKE PEOPLE!
His class consists of mainly lectures and readings online. His lectures usually have nothing to do with the actual topic and the quiz questions are irrelevant. He goes off on on tangents constantly and it's hard to keep up with the material.
Nice enough guy but his lectures are extremely disorganized. It's nearly impossible to take notes because he spends most of the class going on tangents that are unrelated to the topic. Also vague when answering questions and the instructions for assignments are often unclear. I always found myself struggling to figure what I was supposed to do.
This course was ok. I was told to take it bc it was simple and it counted for one of the gened electives I needed. Class wasn't hard, but I wasn't a big history fan. As long as u did ur assignments then you will pass. Never really got to know Anthony but he gave clear instructions and never had a problem with him. Easy online/half semester course.
By far the goofiest professor I have ever met. He tells phenomenal stories that somehow end up relating to the material, and his level of experience and expertise in Native American history makes the material very understandable. He will absolutely drill Turabian citations into your head, but otherwise an amazing professor, I've had him twice.
I had him once a week and when we were in class it's impossible to pay attention and write notes in a clear way. He rambles in lectures. He doesn't give clear instructions, will NOT let you re do assignments no matter what, he is rude in his emails and is a little rude to some students in class when it comes to them asking questions.
The reason I got such a bad grade in this class is only because I messed up one assignment and he wouldn't let me fix it. Otherwise his course was a hybrid and all of his homework tests were ChatGPT able. The papers (2) were somewhat simple and the course as a whole was very simple. He yaps a lot but it is a free diversity requirement.
Gulig's feels like the dad you never had. He's like a history teacher final boss- always got a flannel shirt on and outdoorsy. He's interesting to listen to since he's got a passion for history, but his lectures don't really stay on track too often. The class was literally a quiz a week and 3 essays. That's it. He's a chill guy and a fair grader.
The quizzes make no sense. They're so hard for no reason, and you have no way to prepare for them because the textbook and the weekly quizzes do not match up. For example, one of the quizzes was about Africa and India when the weekly reading was on China and Japan.
DO NOT TAKE I got accused on plagiarizing when I had 3% similarity on a paper and that combined with apparently no scholarly secondary sources meant I got a 0/90 on the paper. Tried to reach out to him with no response and am currently appealing the grade. For a class that only meant once a week it's a lot of unnecessary stress.
I like Gulig because he was fun to listen to and always encouraging questions. This was a hybrid class and I loved it. There is a weekly quiz online, sometimes pop up in-class writtings (usually easy things) and 2 papers. The papers were on a topic of your choice within the years of the class. He grades fair but does not grade easy
decent professor lots of lectures and in class writing assignments and quizzes. no final just papers
Dr Gulig is perhaps among one of the greatest professors on this campus. I've had 3-4 classes with him and he never fails to set the bar outstandingly high in terms of his instruction and grading/feedback. His assessment requirements are exhaustively detailed, and his lectures oftentimes incorporate relevant and highly in-depth knowledge.
The class itself was not too difficult but Dr Gulig made it a lot more complicated than it needed to be. The class was all lectures and the entire class he rambles on and on with no slide show or presentation. This made it very difficult to follow along or take notes. Also, if you have a question don't bother emailing, you will get a vague answer
Overall, Gulig is not the worst. He makes occasional funny jokes. Lectures often are random. This guy cannot get passed his political views - makes it hard to focus on the actual content at times.
