Best teacher I've ever had and even better, his tests are a cakewalk
A great teacher. Best known for easy tests and juggling jellyfish during lectures. He knows everything about fish. He knows almost everything about invertebrates. Almost as good as Twicken.
he was a fun teacher. he likes to joke around a lot and u can tell he's passionate about what he does. you'll learn alot in his class and it isnt too difficult(which is suprising for a bio class)
Huntley's awesome! He's a nice guy with a great personality. Students learn a lot from him. He's funny and chill! His lectures are enthusiastic and can grasp students attention!
These people who are saying he is easy must be Bio majors, b/c every person in my class thought he was a horrible teacher. He goes off on tangents about nothing, and then the test is on obscure things that he's never even talked about.
Took his class years ago - nothing he talked about in class was on the test. He would go off on these random subjects that had nothing to do with Bio. My advice is to stay far away from him :)
He is unclear and treats students like they're inferior and stupid. His lectures are useless, because he blabs on an on about random stuff. He is the most unorganized teacher there is. He likes to pick on you if your struggling. GO BACK TO SANTA CRUZ!!!

I spent 10 hours on my paper and got an 80%. I have straight A's in every one of my class and am going to UCLA next year, and yet in this class I got a D. This is the ONLY class that I've ever not gotten an A in.
I don't wanna be unfair so i think he can be nice if u get to know him. But his class is really hard and you have to put many many many hours of studying and then u might get B ( A is a dream in his class). DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF U HAVE A HIGH GPA.
an A is hard to get, but not impossible. the key to an A is this-sleep during lecture and stay up all night memorizing EVERY single sentence in the book before exams. he is a nice guy but unorganized teacher, so don't expect to learn the info from him.
He said he was going to give us a study guide and he didn't. He said the test was going to be scantron but it was essay. Our class average on the midterm was a 52 (and he refused to curve), so that should give you an idea of why not to take this class.
This prof. is horrible! He lies, teaches nothing that is tested, and talks about how cool he is and all the supposed cool things that he has done in his career...he shows no professional teaching ability. Your a fool to take him!
Very difficult teacher. I thought his course subjects were interesting, but after taking detailed notes, the information on the test was completely different.

All you fools writing nasty reviews should take a look at yourselves. You shouldn't attack your professor because you didn't do well in his course. He's a great instructor, and I think it's pathetic for someone to take out their anger on a legit professor who gave them the grade they deserve.

He know's his stuff, he is a great speaker, sometimes he talks too much. He offers study groups with his class and bonus opportunities. It may be hard to get an A, but it is also hard to fail.
Fascinating class - the instructor is very high energy - you will enjoy him - take notes.

Tony is a great speaker, he is the best part of bio 20. He really works with his students to assist them with studay groups and bonus opportunities. If you are willing to show up forthe studay groups and sit up front you will not fail the class! He's a jerk on the first day of class, just go back!
This guy is boring like no other. No tests and no idea what ur grade is. It was terrible, this is meant to be an honors class and huntley/braatz treated it like a damn joke. No one showed to class ever. Huntley says he determines the grades in his mind within 2 weeks and sticks to them. Dont take it
I agree with those who hated this guy, and its not because Im "taking out my anger on a legit prof" bc I "didnt work hard enough to get a good grade." In fact I guarantee I'm a harder worker than the person who said that considering I got accepted to Duke. So trust me when I say dont take this class
Dr Huntley is a compassionate and knowledgeable professor...extremely dedicated, easy to understand and enthusiastic! If you demonstrate effort and apply yourself, he will give you extra help/advice if needed--even if you are not one of his students! He's funny and usually has great stories
When I thught that I had signed up for Bio, I was mistaken, it was more like a class in Tony's personal philosphies. Only reason this class was hard is because he never explained anything, he mostly just made fun of everything that he didn't like. Do not take his class, if you can avoid it.
Very fun class to take. Very interesting. Pretty laid back class. HUntley is laid back. I would reccomend taking his class
Very knowledgeable. However, that doesn't necessarily translate into a good professor. He and Braatz are a funny combination, but did not create a good class. There was no way of knowing your grade all semester and they liked you or didn't. Definitely had favorites in the class. Hopefully they will never teach this class ever again. Don't take.
cant [ass without the work, but i didnt do all my work and still got an A because i studied for the tests...for which he does give you the essay questions before hand,,,and the rest is multiple choice which can be tricky..hes alot of fun though, not much help if youre not willing to work for it
He's not like other teachers. But he treats you like an adult. does not hold your hand or baby you, but you do know what your grade is in the class based on the work. People are complaining because they are slackers. There is no midterm or final for this class. Just daily reading and homework. I did all of the work, my final paper, presentation
1/2 of these happy faces came from tony's desktop, which is located next to his fruitflys and the other 1/2 are boys who were lucky enough to be huntley's favorites. but I still got an A.

All I can say is please for your own sake do not take this class. Although they are entertaining some times it only ends in disaster. You will not get the grade that you think you will, after doing all the work and a 15 page paper I still received a D…..to my astonishment. Trust me!
I do think that students should be responsible for themselves when taking a class. Sticking with what the lecturers want will help you get good grades. What Dr. Huntley want was not that complicated: studying before the lecture, keeping your mind in the lectures, and practicing the problems on the websites. Do those and you might get an A.
I LOVE HIM! if you are typical lame community college kid who wants an easy "A" take another class. If you want to learn and be challenged take a class w/ Dr. H - he will push you and make you know your****, don't be a lazy ass, keep up w/ the reading, participate in class and don't be scared to challenge yourself and you'll be fine.

Poor Saddleback. This is the only bio 3A class teacher and he royaly sucks. Huntley is a jackass.
Hunltley is sharp and a pretty good teacher, but a total **** a lot of the time.
Tony is a phenomonal teacher... engaged and engaging. Don't expect him to carry you along, but if you are capable or want to be capable of university level work, you should have a great time. Definately one of my favorites.

The class is a hard one. If you have the time to put in the effort you can do well. Tony can be a jerk at times, but helps you out if you know how to approach him.
good teacher...very hard tests...YOU NEED TO STUDY...make sure you have alot of time to devote to this class...i didnt do so well on the tests but i still got a B...just do all the work and you'll do fine...sit in the front...he has this theory about kids that sit in the back..
GREAT TEACHER! one of the best ones at Saddleback, people who don't like him are only bitter cuz he challenges them and actually expects students to do some critical thinking in class. If you want to learn and have a university level professor take his class for sure. Do your work, keep up w/ the reading, and participate in class - you'll be good
Boy that was a hell of a class. I really wondered the whole semester if I would make it through the freaking class...He's got the students work hard. Test can be extremely confusing. I got a B instead of A because his tests are real tricky, not because I did not do the work or did not know the info.Take him if you have tones of time in your hands.

The type of class that after its completion, you feel a sense of euphoria and wanting more, it's weird. He's intimidating at first, interesting, helpful to the ones who ask, you get what you put in.
Interesting class. He tries to scare people away at first, things relax a lot after the drop date. He tends to go on long off-topic rants/anecdotes during the first hours of labs and throughout lectures. His explanations can also be somewhat confusing. He is very helpful if you ask, though. His great sense of humor helps keep the class enjoyable.
For some reason many people don't like Huntley too much. At first he tries to scare you and he seams to be a jack ass... But after the drop date things get much better. Huntley turns out to be pretty funny and informative. The class is still challenging, but just keep up with the reading and you'll be fine.
You can tell that he is passionate about science. He is a true scientist and loves to work in his field. He will not baby you, but if you show interest he will notice. I only had two classes with him but he’s the one that sparked my interested in evolutionary psychology. And that’s my minor at BERKELEY! Thanks Huntley!
This guy is the best science teacher that i've ever had in entire life. He is not easy, but ou can get an A if you study. It is really hard class because it just is but he makes it really interesting and fun at the smae time. he cares about his students and he is real scientist.

A completely logical class... you reap what you sow... huntley is just an everyday dude with knowledge spewing out of his head, there's SO much to get out of this guy. he'll help you out with whatever you ask for, he lives in his office. great guy to know and to strive to be more like.
Professor Huntley is by far one of the most qualified professors at Saddleback College. He will make you love biology, and look forward to attending his class. He's fun to talk to and a great role model. His class is an enjoyable challenge, and you will come out wishing you could take him again.
Dr. Huntley is an amazing professor. He explains everything clearly. His reviews are spot on to the test so definitely go to them. Practicals with Huntley are not that bad. The lab is ALWAYS open for study and it is fairly easy to get a good grade on them. He CURVES tests also. Definitely take this class with him!!!
Amazing teacher,very helpful.Took 3A with Steve and 3B with Huntley.Got a C in 3A and an A in 3B.Tests are directly from lectures and treats students like his own child.Easy A for practicals if you study his printouts verbatum. Really gets into projects and will spend his free time to help with them. Steve is tricky. Wait for Huntley to take 3B.
Professor Huntley is by far the best teacher. He may seem intimidating at first, but that is just a test to see if you will drop his class and perservere. I recommend taking his class if you really want to learn biology. Very sarcastic and yet very funny.
Not the most approachable guy. Very funny and knows the material very, very well, yet he does not necessarily teach it well. Tests are pretty straightforward, but lab assignments are very unclear. Directions are ambiguous and he does not explain them well enough. High level of dedication is necessary in order to get an A.
I got an A. Its pretty hard to get an A in his class. You have to do your job! (Read prior lecture, Repetition is the key to mastering bio! and come to the LAB!) If you do all those, you'll do well in his class. Just remember, every points count! One last thing: if you adjust your mental clock 2 days ahead, you'll do very well in his class!
This is not a class for procrasinator and lazy people!
I have conflicted feelings. His class is hard but he does ease up toward end. He is UNAPPROACHABLE and does not explain ANYTHING. You're on your own in this class. BEWARE

It seems that u r screwed if u take bio 3A. doesn't matter whi the teacher is. Huntley just talk about everything but the text book. You are gonna hear alot from his friend Dianna. He's funny, too. I like Teh more than him.

He does talk a lot about things that have nothing to do with what we are learning,DIANNE! But he cares so much about that class its his life, he helped me very much when I needed for the final project all you need to do is ask him. Dont approach him with out knowing exactly what you are asking and yes sit in the front!! A's are given there.
Great professor who cares about the transfer students. He doesn't baby any1 in class. It's a good reality check for those pre-med majors prior transferring to a UC.. If you can't handle this class, you should NOT go to med school!!..

He is an idiot and a jerk. He doesn't teach anything, so you have to basically rely on the book to study. He does put a lot of time into teaching this class, but he's bitter about it and will always remind you of it every time you ask for help. If you're intimidated easily, don't take him.
Knows his stuff, but tends to go off topic. Very strong personality, so beware if you are easily intimidated. Class isn't too difficult as long as you attend regularly (especially for labs).

If you can't get a good grade in his class, there's no way that you can compete in top UCs. I go to UC Berkeley now. Glad to take it with him. Make sure you go beyond learning the materials by reading extra books. Remember it is your responsibility to know the entire campbell book prior transferring!
Honestly, Huntley is a terrible professor. He spends too much time making fun of people instead of being helpful. Plus, he's hardly ever in lab, which is not good when you need to study for practicals.
Ah prof. Huntley, be it right on the dot that the man incorporates many of his personal beliefs into the education you receive from him, the information delivered is key to the future of the success of the entry level scientific mind. Read the book well, study the labs Intently. I finished with a 79 and he gave me a C...watch it.
Awesome teacher if you can handle it. You will leave a better student after taking his class. Though it is a heavier course load (allowing for natural selection to occur on a weekly basis...), it balances out as the semester closes. Those that were unsure of their abilities as a student will have grown a pair by the time they finish the course.
I suggest trying another instructor or college. Excluding students and the classroom, there is not enough room for him and his eg_. Good luck if his is your instructor.
Took anatomy and physiology and let me just say I studied very hard and did not pass his class. He went very fast since almost every person in there beside myself and 2 others were grad students, nurses, or EMT; people who were good at bio. He only cares about his majors class. I do not recommend him if you are not a bio major
I cannot believe that SBC allows instructors like Mr. Huntley to teach any course.
Dr. Huntley teaches what starts out as feeling like an incredibly difficult class, but if you do all of the work assigned, show up to lab, and pay attention to lectures then there is no reason that anyone should not do well in his bio 3A class. He's not the most helpful teacher, but he makes you think and you leave a SIGNIFICANTLY better student.
The most intelligent professor I have had thus far in my accademic carrer. Put in a lot of work and you will get a good grade. The majority of points come from your labs and the project.

One of the worst professors I've ever had. He assigns homework and assignments with the assumption that we're not full time students or have work outside of school. He does not respect his students, often insults them in class, refuses to respond to emails, etc. His ego is out of this world, especially for a CC professor. Take Bio at SCC or IVC.
Professor Huntley can be so sassy to students, I understand why people wouldn't like him or his style. Just ignore it when he is being like that. His lectures are like "storytime" for the first 3/4, then the last 1/4 he rushes through the material. Heres a concept; read the book and the lectures prior to class and then you won't be lost.
Intelligent guy but condescending and egotistical. (this can be entertaining at times). Better off reading the textbook during lecture. Tests are difficult. Attend lab, do all the random assignments (easy pts stuff) and do the project. This class was very time consuming but I learned a lot of practical lab and research skills. Take Teh if you can.
Class was fine. Not helpful and likes to hear himself talk, but not a bad guy. Can be funny. Alot of assignments, but it is good bc those points add up and help keep a good grade. Must use book for tests. I got 2 D's and 1 C, but still got a "B" bc of the labs, etc. If u want to get in and out of class then he's not ur guy.

Hardest class of my life. Will give you the best biology foundation to prepare you for classes for upper division. Don't take if your not a bio major obviously. It was so hard I still have nightmares of his tests but I can't say I won't miss him, his lectures, and his passion for each subject I learned. Definitely take him if you want to learn.
Very smart guy. Don't be intimidated by him! Just do your work. VERY time consuming class! Many many labs but will def help boost grade DO ALL LABS! You can fail all tests & still pass class w B thanks to busy work! Easy grader. Can makeup points on tests! NECESSARY ATTENDANCE. He does ramble in lecture. Take Teh 3B (tougher class, better teacher)
He's smart but he loves to talk and rant A LOT which could be a problem for students taking his morning lab. Warning: lab groups are randomized in 3A, so you could end up with stupid people. He's not clear on directions either and we end up losing points for not doing stuff he wanted but never specified. Only take him if you value biology labs.
Yikes! This class is time consuming and stressful. Tests are long and difficult. He made eleven mistakes on the last exam. Passing is no problem, you can get D's on the exams, A's on labs and end up with a B overall. Do well on your project--huge grade booster. Be wary of group labs/presentations and his LOVE of ranting during lecture.
I loved his class. It was challenging, but there are tons of points with extra credit. It's hard not to get an A in his class, just show up, listen to lectures (even though he tells lots of stories), and make sure you take control of your group lab assignments (You can lose a lot of easy points from silly mistakes).
Although he seems like a hard-ass at first, he gets much nicer and amicable in the semester. Really great guy, but is also didactic and crude at times. I am a Biology major. I took his Bio20 class in order to take Bio 22 for UCs and his class ruined my GPA. Even getting a B is hard in his class. Im just so pissed. Group projects are awful too. I wanted to take 3AH, but unfortunately he teaches it, I really wanted to get into honors program but just because of him I changed my mind.
Although my friends told me to not take take this i had to take it. And I regret it. Id stay for another year instead of taking his class

There is group projects that you get to do with people that you do not know. Also labs are so hard I dont think getting an A is possible if your taking more than 10 units.

Im a straight A student. I really worked hard for his class but i Think im gonna end up with a B in his class. I have him for Marine Science and the class is hell of hard. Cant's imagine how hard his Bio class would be. RIP for those who have him.

Biology is one of the most difficult courses and having a bad professor makes it even harder. I took this class but I dropped it before it was too late.

He is definitely one of the worst professors that Ive ever had in my life. He gives himself 5.0 and deletes most of the negative comments so people would take his class!!!!! As a computer science major i really regret taking his class.

Homework: One discussion post per week and some final projects/essays at the end. Our class has already ended and he still has yet to figure out how he is grading these discussion posts and how to submit them into Canvas - something which should have been figured out before the semester began. Neither the students nor Huntley know our grades.
I loved this class! Yes, there's a lot to cover and you have to know it to be able to ace but if you're just a bit good at sciences, this class will be more than enjoyable. He is extremely passionate about biology and he has really fun and inspirational stories to tell. He will remember you if you participate in class a little and it will pay off
Great guy, but jeez this class was a challenge. I barely finessed an A in the class, you gotta say the right thigs at the right time to get him to like you. as long as it seems like you know what you are doing he will like you. Very high he does curve the exams and STUDY!
Prof Huntley is... at best unprepared. He was over 15 minutes late to the first class and 15 minutes late for the final! He doesn't seem to know what material is on the ppt slide until he flips to it. His tangents are the worst. Most of lecture is rambling on tangents, and if you ask him a question, he will ramble forever and never answer it.
I really enjoyed this guys' lectures. We had two field trips at the beach. He isn't so much detail specific, but just wants to see that you get the big idea of the scientific concepts. Also offers extra credit.
I will admit I didn't enjoy Dr. Huntley very much at the beginning of the semester, but through out the months he has really grown on me and now I believe him to be one of the best teachers I have ever gotten the chance to have. His lectures are scatter brained but he really is a smart and caring guy. There is a group lab like everyday, so show up.
One of the best professors ever. Easy A. Was even available during the thanksgiving day. He is more a father and a friends than a professor.
He grows on you over the course of the semester. Every single lab is a group lab. He likes to tell stories. He has gotten angry at some students for unknown reasons and has lost his cool a couple times. Say the right things at the right times and he will like you!

Huntley is an Incredible teacher. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO RATING. If your not serious about being a STEM major then take an easier class, don't blame the teacher. In the beginning i was unsure what to expect but Huntley turned out to be one of the best teachers i ever had. Pay attention to lecture slides and what's focused on in class and the exams won't be to hard. Heavy project class but great for bad exam grades. Take Huntley if you can!
Of all my classes i look forward to this one the most. There are a lot of extra side stories but all of them some how end up perfectly relating to the subject matter we're reviewing. Our class is always laughing and somehow even the most boring topics become interesting. Nice guy and really want's his students to succeed.
Definitely a professor worth taking. His lectures are entertaining and he posts videos that go with his slides if you can't make it to class. This is a project heavy class . All labs are done in groups of 2-4 people and your groups are chosen at random. Exams are 50 question multi -choice with a few short answers at the end.
Doesn't grade until end of semester. Marks off points without giving feedback. Tells stories in lecture and tells you to watch his video lectures online. Exam keys had several errors. Posts important assignments to canvas the day before they're due. Only people who did well on exams had his previous exams.
He will teach you how to write scientifically, how to be resourceful, and to use your classmates as allies. Do ALL of the assignments, READ THE TEXTBOOK, and you will be fine. Might also be a good idea to start early on the group project, since there might be a few setbacks. Like all of your subjects dying. His rants are just rants, learn to laugh.
Avoid taking him if possible. I am a very good student but I have never had a professor who made me so unmotivated to learn. People like how he makes jokes but jokes around too much and just seems like he doesn't care about making sure his students learn. Will let you turn in things late, but gets offended when corrected for his mistakes.
I am so confused why Professor Huntley has such a low rating on here. He is exceptionally helpful with assignments, especially with the research project. He typically responds to emails very quickly and gives a reasonable amount of time to finish things. One of my favorite professors i've had in college, despite not being a biology major. Take him!
I dont know why Professor Huntley has such a low score. I had him online for Bio 4A this semester, and his class was very organized and straightforward. It is a science class, so its not easy. But if you participate in class, watch the lectures, and put the time in to study for exams, you will get an A in the class no problem. Highly recommend
If you got a bad grade in Huntley's class its 100% your fault. Just pay attention to his wacky stories and follow instruction on the lab. The written questions on the exam will be discussed in class at length, and he tries hard to make you understand and get a good grade. Was really surprised how low his score was on here and decided to chime in.
Absolutely horrible teacher. His lectures are disorganized, hard to follow, and do not reflect his tests well at all. Tests have random questions, may or may not be related to concepts you have "learned", and are extremely difficult. Don't bother to ask him questions, you will end up more confused than when you started. No winning in this class.
Huntley is amazing for his research class. Had him for BIO 49 too. He called us his "grad students" at one point, which I thought was really sweet. He has a lot of faith in our scientific abilities having proven our worth in 49. He goes out of his way to provide materials for any experiment we are interested in. He validates us as real scientists.
My only criticism is his communication and availability. Huntley often was distracted during our class and sometimes was not available to answer certain questions I had about my calculations. And when he did, he often wasn't clear. Just be persistent and get ahead of ur work so you have time to ask q's. Fun class though! Will take him for BIO 50.
The class was generally pretty easy if you paced yourself correctly. I wish the class had two professors though because you can tell it can get pretty overwhelming for Huntley and inconvenient for you when you need to get in the lab room for your project and he's not on campus or you have a question and he's somewhere else with someone else.
Get ready to teach yourself. Spends all of lecture reading the 300 PowerPoint slides monotonously and somehow expects you to learn that way. Does not reply to emails. He had to change our tests to online after the first 2 tests so everyone wouldnt fail. Calls himself the gatekeeper of bio but theres no way he would be this bad on purpose. Yikes
Take this professor if you want to hate Bio... he wastes almost all lecture time and lab time telling stories about his life and expects you to finish the lab on time. he doesn't know how to use Canvas and keeps blaming it on technical issues. and he doesn't respond to emails.
His grading criteria is unclear, and he does not respond to emails. He takes weeks to grade labs, so you won't know what to improve upon. He wastes lab and lecture time going on rants/personal stories and injects his politics into everything. He can be very condescending, too. Additionally, his tests don't reflect the lecture material at all.
Huntley goes off on his stories and experiences on the topics we cover. Grades are total points and having 4 lecture exams (100pts ea.), and the labs are in groups. He would frequently forget to publish labs. The labs were easy but to get the max points you need to be decent in excel with the graphs. Final was CV, 5yr plan, and 90 sec presentation.
