HOLY MOLY, this guy is pretty hott which is good because now I pay an extra amount of attention. He's Greek or something hott like that. He is VERY nice and shows interest in anything anyone wants to contribute to discussion. He poses good questions and I feel that in every class I learn a lot.
TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS. Anthony is the best professor ever and some of us are considering transferring across the country to take more classes from him. (Why did he leave DC?) Just mention the name "Agnes Heller" at office hours (GO TO OFFICE HOURS. They will be the best moments of your college life.) and see what happens.

This class seemed completely overwhelming at first, but after the first midterm (out of 2), I realized that it wasn't going to be as hard as it seemed. Lectures were really interesting, and Kammas is one of the smartest professors I have had. There is a lot of reading, but you can get away with skimming it most of the time.
Kammas is the Best Professor at USC. Take this man's class, it is well worth it.
Fantastic teacher who happens to be fantastic looking.
enjoyed it very much. he is fun, and very , very, very interesting.
awesome prof. def take his class - it is well worth it. exams are tough but he is a fair grader and offers as much help as you need. office hours are great - will talk about everything from class material to partying. check it out!
GREAT Prof. 6 pop quizzes 2 lowest dropped, 4 chances to write 2 papers. Show up, participate, and read you will do fine. Understanding, friendly, and FAIR! He is genuine and cares about the performance of his students, sometimes hard to take notes 4 his class, alot of tangents, but well-worth while to take his class. EASY.
Structure is like the comment below. As someone who hates reading in a class that is reading heavy, I thought I was screwed. First few books were hard, but really got it by the end. Can't really take notes for this class, and he doesn't teach off of any notes. Kammas doesn't lecture, but asks a series of q's that are meant to make you think.
He is a fun professor who loves to smoke cigars, drink and make Greek jokes. He will really change your thoughts on how the world works. His teaching style is relaxed, he doesn't use a blackboard, he relies on our questions. He provides 6 opportunities to write 2 papers. There are 6 in class quizzes- you can drop 2 of them. TAKE BOTH OF HIS CLASSES
A. Kammas is an amazing professor. It amazes me how thoroughly he knows the subject matter. He's a great teacher that is pretty good-looking and the smart-factor just adds to his overall awesomeness. Class is reading intensive with 5 quizes (lowest 2 grades are dropped), a midterm and a final. This was a great class!
Amazing professor. He's passionate about what he teaches, and focuses on the material. no essays, just midterm, final, and 5 quizes (2 lowest dropped). Makes you actually want to go to class. Has a nice, laid-back sense of humor, and incorporates it into the lecture. loooved this class. plus, he's actually good-looking.
I agree with everyone's comments below, but I do think he is a bit full of himself. Also, your grade depends on the TA you have. I got stuck with a man who couldnt speak any english. A TA can break or brake you grade. Be prepared.
Professor Kammas is an all around great professor. His lectures are interesting and engaging. He really gets you thinking through guided questions and discussions. He is fair in his expectations and examinations. One midterm, one final and 5 quizzes of which you can drop 2. Highly recommended.
Prof Kammas is an amazingly funny and clear teacher. That being said, I felt terrible for never truly forming an interest in what he taught. Clearly, philosophy isn't for me. Still, I ended up with a great grade in the class because Kammas was just a fantastic teacher who really helps you to understand the material!
Kammas is the most relaxed teacher I've ever had. There are 6 in-class pop quizzes but the lowest two grades are dropped. There are a lot of books he wants you to read but you can still get a good grade by just reading sparknotes and summaries. You grade is highly dependent on how the TA grades.
Not a very interesting class but what do you expect from a lower division course? Kammas is a very good professor who I would definitely take again though not for a lower division class. I have a feeling that he is most effective with smaller groups.
Fantastic professor, and the material is always interesting.
Knows his Poli Sci. Lectures the who lecture without notes. Very well read guy. Asks questions to the class to keep the lecture going but people always participate without cold calling. He doesn't cold call. Reading is a good amount but entirely manageable. If you read and pay even a tiny bit of attention you will do well.
Awesome teacher. Takes a very philosophical approach to comparative politics. Lectures the entire time, no power points. 6 quizzes (lowest 2 dropped), 1 midterm and 1 final. Tests are very manageable. If you do all of the readings and take good notes, it will be pretty easy to get an A. Great prof!
I have no idea what these other people are thinking. Kammas is a great professor, but 120 is hands down the worst, most pointless class I've taken at SC. He has no place teaching comparative politics. If he is teaching this class, DO NOT TAKE IT.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! I want to take a class with him every year if I can! He is one of the most brilliant people I have ever encountered and teaches so much. Class isn't easy but it's definitely not hard and worth taking for sure! He's someone you want to be taught by. Favorite prof at USC by far
I unfortunately hate comparative politics so the material did not interest me at all but Kammas is an excellent professor and very passionate about political science. Definitely can get an A if you do the readings and pay attention in class.
Don't need to attend lecture to do well in the class; quizzes/midterm/final are all based off the text. Do your reading and you'll be fine. Grade is dependent on TA. Very intelligent prof, but lectures are too philosophical at times and do not clarify readings enough. Good class/prof, nonetheless.
Simply, he goes over the readings in class. So just read, in accordance. I can honestly say that from the whole book i read 3 articles and for the midterm and final some students made a outline for each article. I rarely paid attention, all depends on your t.a i had mills, he was great. 5 pop quizzes are easy, .
Ladies and gentlemen, Anthony Kammas is a great professor. His lectures are, ladies and gentlemen, very thought provoking and involve a lot of engagement from the class. The tests are, ladies and gentlemen, pretty easy and if you study, ladies and gentlemen, you'll get an easy A. Ladies and gentlemen.
excellent professor, best at usc.
Take this class. 5 quizzes (2 lowest ones will be dropped), 1 midterm and 1 final. A lot of readings but you'll love it if you're interested in this topic. Kammas is absolutely the best.
6 quizzes (4 count, drops 2 lowest), 2 papers and thats it. The whole class is based on readings that really dont make any sense unless you read a lot of philosophy. He also wants you to make ur own opinion of the readings so he tries not to really tell you what its about. If you can figure it out, he grades very easily and one an A is attainable
Excellent professor, very energetic and very intellectually vibrant. I highly recommend his classes to anyone
Very knowledgeable professor. Really amazing to just listen to his lectures and connections to other sources. And it doesn't hurt that he is THE hottest professor I've ever had.
Fantastic professor. Inspired a major in philosophy. All around great. Take any class by this man.
Kammas is not a "professor". He's a mentor. Someone who will have a profound influence on your life. The man is interested in helping you, not marking you down for minute mistakes on a piece of paper. I highly suggest you take any courses with him. USC is one of the best universities in America, but Kammas should be teaching at Harvard.
I went to class probably 5 times and got an A-. Brian Bowman (TA) is so nice and doesn't require you to participate in discussion. Easy grader and really nice, too. Only thing is, I couldn't really understand what he was saying because of the room the lecture was held in. Bad echoes..
He is awesome! Honestly such a genius its hard to keep up! His classes are amazing because you can say anything you want to promote the discussion. At first I was slightly lost but I finally got the hang of understanding his lectures. Two papers 50% and pop quizes 40% and participation 10% Definitely recommend him to anyone philosophically minded!
Awesome lecturer. Class assignments are mostly readings, which can be complex but Kammas goes through them comprehensively. Great professor and class.
Kammas is a brilliant man. A captivating lecturer. and a beautiful person.
Not a fan of this class whatsoever. Very uninteresting class and completely irrelevant to Political Science. Best part is you don't have to go to class and there's only papers and quizzes, no exams. Lectures are basically irrelevant, so who cares how great of a lecturer people say he is? Wouldn't recommend this class to my worst enemy.
Kammas frustrates me 1) because he never responded to my emails, 2) because his material is pretty dry to begin with, 3) because his teaching style managed to make Rorty, Mouffe, etc. even more confusing, and 4) because of his absolute cynicism and lack of hope. Some classes are relatively enlightening, though--if you focus hard.
Answer these questions before you take the class. 1) Do you like politics? 2) Do you like reading 25-70 pages a day/week? 3) Are you very opinionated? 4) Do you enjoy voicing your opinion on paper? About 2 papers. 5) Do you like short answer/essay writing exams only? If you said more yes than no to these questions, then take this class, vice-versa.
Best teacher I've ever had in my life. Bet class too. He changes the whole way you think about life.
I really regret taking this class P/NP. First few weeks seeming very confusing but mid terms and paper turned out to be very easy. As it gets closer to test time Kammas will make it very clear whats goning to be on the exam. Try to get Brandon Johns as your TA if you can. He's very helpful and an easy grader.
He's a professor that forces you to look at a certain subject you thought you had a grasp on in a very different way. His style is captivating to some, incredibly frustrating to others. I enjoyed every class because he provokes you to reassess some of what you thought were your already-established beliefs. He engages his classes like very few can.
I took this class because it was the only one that fit in my schedule, and it's been one of the easiest courses I've taken. The lectures themselves are relatively dense due to Kammas's incredible knowledge on the subject, but test's are just definitions and and an essay, so if you pay attention in discussion, you can ace the class without reading.
Kammas is the most influential professor I've ever had. His knowledge bank in regards to politics & history is immense and inspiring, yet not intimidating. He makes it very easy to learn and to grow, and he wants his students to be better - he doesn't really care about research grants or any of that, he's truly there for you. 1010 would recommend
Kammas is not a professor; he is mentor. He doesn't teach you WHAT to think but he teaches you HOW to think. Incredibly knowledgeable man yet very humble. You can get into discussions with him and he will love it. He truly expands your horizons. As he says" Have the courage to use your own reason". BTW all girls in my class have a crush on him!
The class is extremely boring! The good thing is you don't have to show up to the lectures. but there are 4 pop quizzes which is worth 20% of your grade. drops the worst two quizzes which is great. Once you pass two quizzes, your solid. Midterm, Final and quizzes are based off spark notes, or wikipedia. one essay due at the end of the semester.
Kammas is incredible. He is so knowledgeable and his lectures are very clear and extremely helpful. The reading is dense and most always confusing but Kammas always lectures so well to sum up the reading that everything is straight forward and easy to understand. He is just brilliant. The class is very chill too. Would HIGHLY recommend.
I'm not sure if the problem is with the material or with the way he explained the material, but I found that he explained esoteric concepts in a very roundabout manner that was very difficult to understand. The readings are incredibly dry, dense, and serious. The pop quizzes are not hard at all, nor are the 6-7 pg papers (of which there are 3)
Hands down the best professor. If you're looking to take a POSC course, make sure you take him. You begin to think beyond the box-raising your level of critical analysis skills. It's not a walk-in-the-park, you have to work for it. Go to office hours, talk to him, and he'll recognize your efforts. A genius as well as the best teacher at SC.
Extremely respected professor, absolutely brilliant and really broadens your mind and perception of reality. The material can go straight over your head if you don't take good notes in class and a least skim the spark notes. A lot of reading, but overall thought the course was enjoyable and interesting. Would take again. Also he's v attractive
I had an A- through the whole semester and ended up with a B because I got a 40% on the participation grade even though I went to every single class. Even if I didnt say much in my class as that has never been my style, 40% really? 60% is already an F and I wouldve had B+ with it and A- with 70% I emailed him and he emails back a sarcastic response
Kammas gave me a new outlook on American ideology and life in general, everyone who took this class said they had a whole new perspective on things. He's an awesome lecturer because he is so well spoken and intelligent but he just talks to the class rather than using a power point. However TA's have all the control over your grade in the class.
This is one of the most eye opening, incredible classes I've ever taken. You will walk out of every lecture in awe. The readings are important, but I got away with skimming them and finding summaries online because what really matters is Kammas' interpretation of them.
Posc 110 was not only the best class I have ever taken at USC, but it actually changed my life. Years later, I decided to make this review because i legit think of the lessons I learned from kammas almost every day. I changed my whole life plan because of this class. Opened my eyes so much, so thankful. Take it!
Overall the class is great! Kammas has great lectures and talks about the reading assigned after every class. He gives pop quizzes on the reading which are not hard at all if you read. There are 6 pop quizzes and 2 are dropped, and there are 5-6 essays which you pick 3 to do. Essays are opinion based and he hates research based papers.
Hands down best class I've ever taken at USC - poli sci major or not, this class will change your life.
He's an extremely intelligent and engaging professor. He has 6 random pop quizzes from readings which usually aren't too hard. Only complaint is that the readings and lectures can be dry at many points.
Professor Kammas is hands down one of the best and brightest professors at USC. However, he is not afraid to push his students to work for their grades. Several papers and pop quizzes all count toward your grade. Really nice guy and is willing to help outside of class. Lectures are interesting and relevant
By far one of the best professors I've taken at USC. He makes every single lecture very engaging. You will actually look forward to his class and class discussions. The class is very eye-opening.
One of the most inspiring and enlightening professor. As a non-political science major, I found the course a little challenging. I'd recommend attending BOTH his and his TA's office hours before writing your paper.
Want a pretty easy A/A- and an easygoing professor? Kammas is your guy. His teaching style, specifically his explanation of concepts, can become abstract and difficult to follow, but he's a likable guy and his class will open you up to some interesting ideas. It's easy to BS but helpful to stay engaged.
I LOVED Professor Kammas and I only ever hear good things about him. People fight for spots in his class, as he's an EXPERT in political theory. If you're like reading political theory and discussing broad existential concepts then take one of his classes! He is a great lecturer and listener and is very open and accepting of other beliefs an ideas.
Kammas is the best college professor I have had. He is the most knowledgable professor in this field at USC and you will learn so much by taking this class. That in mind, the readings are incredibly dense and difficult, and sometimes he gets carried away in the text and things are not as clear. But he is always willing to help. Amazing take this!!
Go to this class, participate here and there, do you reading (or read a summary of the reading), go to his meetings if you have any questions, make sure you have a good TA (she/he does all the grading), and don't be scared! For this class you have to write 4/5 essays (not bad), few pop quizzes (very broad), and participate!!!!!
Kammas was a very interesting breath of fresh air at USC. This is more of a political philosophy class than a political science class. So get ready to debate your beliefs. He is engaging and brings up interesting points of view. He really makes you criticize the material he makes you read.
His lectures are going to make the class seem a lot more difficult than it is. Changed my perspective on a lot of things, but some of his opinions are abrasive. Definitely broadened my horizons; one of my favorite classes because it challenged me to rethink my views and challenge his. Sometimes a bit insensitive and maddeningly cynical.
The best professor I've met at USC and the best class ever. I've been thinking about what he taught to me almost every day after graduation. Life changing class.
Professor Kammas is very smart, funny, and down-to-Earth. His lectures are super interesting but the content is pretty difficult. There's a lot of reading and pop quizzes, but the grading is fair.
Great in class discussions and very helpful in his office hours
Surprised to see the positive reviews he has. I found POSC370 really disorganized and confusing. His lectures were vague and all over the place, and he offered little actual critical discussion of the texts - it was inspirational, maybe, but not substantive. Grading was done by TA but had no clear criteria. I didn't learn anything in this class.
This class was a pretty easy A. He is a great professor and I learned a lot.
One of the best professors I've had at USC. Once you get used to the format of the class, an open discussion w/ little structure, and if you actually do the readings, your mind will be blown. Changed my whole perspective of the world.
Kammas is the best professor I've had here at USC. He's a talented lecturer and if you do the reading and pay attention in class, the papers write themselves. Also an amazing and genuine person. Highly recommend.
Took this class to satisfy GE requirement and was pretty disappointed. Kammas definitely has serious charisma, and he knows how to work a lecture hall. However, his lectures often seemed to lack substance/direction and were a bit sensationalized. More Q's than A's. Reading requirement was far too heavy for a 100-level GE class. Take a different GE.
This class was a lot hard than I expected. Professor Kammas is a genius, but it sometimes felt like he was getting way ahead of himself in lecture. The lectures began to feel pointless, as during the second half of the semester they would just leave me more confused. A lot of reading, pretty tough grading. I would take another GE if I were you.
Took his class this semester, and I don't get the hype. There was definitely too much reader for a GE (anywhere from 100-300 pages) and it usually didn't matter if you did it b/c his lectures were repetitive and filled w/ generalizations after the midterm. When I'd try to see him in office hours, he'd always remind me I could just email him instead
Professor Kammas is extremely engaging, and he makes you want to go to class (which is great since there are pop-quizzes in class). The class is more philosophy than political science, but it is a great way to get outside of your comfort zone. He will be particularly helpful if you go to office hours several times during the year.
I loved Professor Kammas' class- it has been my favorite class I've taken for my major so far. His lectures are incredibly thought-provoking and inspire students to go beyond the texts to tie them into greater themes. I actually looked forward to going to his lectures, and though this class is reading heavy, the assignments allow flexibility.
Amazing lectures. 10/10 would recommend. The pop quizzes are annoying, but if you do the reading you should be okay although the TA was a tough grader even when I was prepared.
Brilliant professor and amazing lectures. One of the best classes I have taken. Lots of reading, but he wants you to do well and makes lectures extremely interesting and worthwhile.
NOT AN EASY GE. Professor is an amazing guy but readings are dense and very very long. Pop Quizzes are annoying and lectures can be confusing but also really cool. Would not recommend for someone looking for something easy or someone that doesn't like reading.
Kammas is a cool guy. It's nice to see a professor teaching for a reason with meticulously planned lectures and a direct message or conversation he wants to send out or start. Really recommend taking a class of his!
Kammas is the best professor I've had at USC. He is genuinely so passionate about what he teaches and it's evident in his lectures and how he addresses student's concerns. He is kind and caring and wants his students to succeed. His lectures are thought provoking and this class has changed my perspective of life. Truly inspirational.
Professor Kammas is amazing! This is an excellent GE to take. Not only is it super interesting, there are clear ways to succeed. Do the assignment, take good notes, go to discussion and you will do well. Kammas is always available and extremely helpful, also has so many funny stories and anecdotes that are engaging and aid in understanding.
Professor Kammas is an incredible teacher. He has an insane level of charisma, so his lectures are always really engrossing. They also have the added benefit of making the really tough readings accessible. He's super hilarious and understanding. His grading and overall coursework is tough, but if you pay attention to lectures, you should be fine.
Kammas is the man. Chillest prof at USC. Reading can be overwhelming, but he explains it well in class. The class lowkey messes with your head, but it's fun. Also, the class' difficulty depends on the TA, so learn to know what the TA wants for the papers. Be attentive in class and up-to-date on the readings and you'll do well
Deep philosophical thinking that creates critical thought. I really enjoyed the class and he is super understanding of student's situations. There is an immense amount of reading but it is explained well. 2 essays for the semester and they are done on your schedule. Pop quizzes are a large part of the grade and are graded fairly. Solid choice!
Kammas is an amazing person and professor!! The reading is dense and his lectures are very unstructured and often seem like a stream of consciousness. my notes did not make a lot of sense. but if you work hard to understand the readings and attend lecture the essays should not be too painful!
I looked forward to Kammas's lectures every week; he genuinely cares, he's funny, and he wants you to really understand and think about the material. Lectures feel like listening to a story, without realizing how much information you're taking in. A lot of reading, but it all felt worthwhile. Kammas made the class a fantastic experience.
Kammas has a unique way of teaching where he lets discussion lead the class. I have found that his classes allow you to form your own opinions and run with them in class and in your writings. Taking his 370 changed my time at USC. You have to love reading to enjoy his classes, but I have found it to be so worth it.
Hes a great teacher! Loved his course and taking him again next year. The class is most interesting if you actually read all of the assignments and engage in class discussions, but the reading assignments are hefty! If youre not into reading, this is not the class for you. Hes very understanding and seems to truly care about his students.
Kammas' class basically consisted of him saying hello and going straight into a discussion with the class answering their questions and explaining the reading more in-depth using those questions. Very laid-back guy, just wants you to get the main points from readings and analyze them and how they work.
Kammas has a really funky lecture style that is free flowing discussion that's hard to follow sometimes. That being said, it allows students to be able to really ask any questions they have on the readings if that comes up. Also he is super accommodating, especially with the online semester he gave extensions for the last three papers.
He's great! I would definitely take his class again without a doubt. All the readings and videos involved are useful for future classes. There will be a few papers and pop quizzes here and there but is a really fun and insightful class to take. Even though second half of the class was zoom he still did a really great job!!
The prof is super nice, its a discussion class so its a lot of talking and listening so you have to be really interested in the topic. The TA henry grades everything and hes a super harsh grader so beware
Prof. Kammas is AMAZING, truly engaging with students in a socratic manner (less lecture more discussion). You have 6 pop quizzes (2 lowest are dropped) and 5 options to write 2 essays. He even prefers succinct papers so 4 pages or less is fine. The only issue is Henry (TA) - extremely harsh grader and isn't on the same grading wavelength as prof.
GREAT PROFESSOR BUT ONE WORD. HENRY. HARSHEST GRADER IN USC HISTORY. KID IN MY CLASS EVEN HAD TO ASK PROFESSOR KAMMAS TO GRADE HIS PAPER SEPARATELY BECAUSE OF H-E-N-R-Y. DUDES INSANE WITH THE GRADES!
This class is really just a discussion. There's a reading assigned before each class which is discussed during lecture. Student questions guide where the class goes. He answers all the questions and will sometimes give a longer explanation but he really just wants to see you develop your own understanding. Definitely must do the readings to do well
great professor, makes us think critically, facilitates interesting discussions. A lot of reading and harsh grading though. Not an easy GE if you don't like reading and interested in politics.
Kammas is my favorite professor, and his classes are so engaging. There is a lot of reading, but the content is super interesting. I would 100% take it again.
The man, the myth, the legend, the Greek revolutionary. I should say this guy singlehandedly made me re-evaluate everything I believed. I have taken three of his classes and they were all FANTASTIC. Please take, really nice guy, almost always easy A (just show some effort) Oh, this is where my tuition went. Not too bad.
Professor Kammas fills the class with a lot of interesting readings, but some of them can be too much time. Luckily, the grading on the essays is really lenient so if you need to skip a reading or two you will be fine.
Kammas is so good that he can literally destroy your values and beliefs in a lecture/discussion and restore them in another. He gives out tons of reading, but most of them are really interesting, and he can explain them in the most inspiring way possible. The TA Ian is also really chill and easy in grading.
This class is literally okay, not worth it if you get Henry as a TA, he is the worst EVER, such a tough grader. The class is so boring and not worth the hassle of reading. The TA is an unreasonable grader please spare yourself trouble especially for a GE, average class. prof is really cool but ONLY take this class with another ta avoid HENRY AOKI
I respect prof. Kammas he cares about his students and gives reasonable assignments. I wouldn't take him again because I'm really not a fan of his teaching style (extremely heavy lecture). AVOID THE TA HENRY AKOI hes great but he grades in an unreasonable way... the harshest grader ever.
His teaching style is lecture-heavy without PPTs, so be ready to listen during class. Although he assigns way too much reading per week, his graded assignments are pretty reasonable. Pop quizzes ask simple questions about the readings & students only have to write 2 papers per semester. TA Jair is great, he is a reasonable grader & really friendly!
I had professor Kammas a while ago, and his lecture is really stuck with me. He was a great professor and I recommend him
He is knowledgeable, and passionate, yet he gives an astronomic amount of homework, and he is very specific in what he requires from his students. It takes a lot of work to get an A in this class, but it is possible. If you like to learn about the horrors of society and revolution, take the class, just read, and stay on top of it.
Literally, the class broke out clapping at the end of his last lecture. His lectures will change the way you think about the world and life. A lot of reading, though.
By far the best POSC prof I've had at USC. His teaching style isn't for everyone-it's essentially just a large discussion-but his knowledge of the material &ability to push students to think more critically is amazing. He's genuinely passionate abt what he teaches & I can't recommend him enough. He gives 6 pop quizzes, but the bottom 2 are dropped.
1 midterm, 5 pop quizzes (tough grading), 1 ten-page essay, AND a final exam. Lots of reading & you might get tested randomly. Most students here are poli-sci, so don't take this class as a GE. The TAs are nice but VERY tough graders. The professor encouraged varying interpretations but the TAs were definitely looking for the "correct" answer.
Prof doesn't use slides, the class is more just a discussion. He is incredibly kind and tells great stories. Henry was my TA and there was not a single grade in BB the entire semester so I never knew how I was doing in the class. Pop quizzes are easy enough, tons of reading but worth it because I came out having learned so much. Def recommend!
Take his class and don't look back. Lectures will give you an incredible new outlook on life if you listen and do the readings, it's really more than just a poli sci class- seriously go back to web reg and sign up now
Incredibly chill, hilarious, and insightful professor. Uses pop quizzes to encourage attendance, but doesn't actually take it. If you miss class, you run your own risk of missing a quiz. Quizzes are easy if you skim Sparknotes an hour before class. Unclear feedback/grading on essays, but our we had extraordinarily bad circumstances w the TAs.
Professor Kammas is down to earth, knows the material extremely well, and is able to provide students with excellent discussion-style lectures. But most importantly, he shows a great deal of passion for political thought, which was contagious to students like me, which is ultimately a good thing as it inspires others to be deeply interested.
Professor Kammas is one of the best Political Science professors in the department. He is highly philosophical in his teaching and he will truly make you think. The readings did get long and boring at times but he makes himself easily available for office hours in which he will clarify anything you need.
Lots and lots of reading! Definitely not an easy GE but very educational.
I've graduated and am at a different place in life, but I'm returning to give Kammas an overdue review. I took 3 of his classes as a PPE major; it was his POSC 110 that got me hooked up on the major from the beginning. Kammas is extremely caring and knowledgeable, and it's definitely not hard to do well in his class. Please take him if possible.
Kammas is a great lecturer, but he doesn't seem to be on the same page as his TAs. The current TA is averse to giving out perfect scores on reading checks, instead giving out 94s and 95s at maximum. As the threshold for an A is a 95, there's no room for interesting/risky papers, which seems to go against the spirit of the course.
What a great professor, Every class made me question my beliefs and outlook on life even more. A lot of reading, but this class is worth it if you want your mind blown.
One of the best professors SC has to offer. Great guy with solid expectations and a clear criteria of whats expected. Worth the tuition because you'll have your mind blown.
NGL - it's a lot of reading. I just sparknoted the stuff before class and still did very well, but obv not the best for my actual learning. Most of the quizzes were converted into take-home writing assignments anyways. Very easy, very cool prof. He's straight out of a movie.
Professor is a great lecturer, but the class format has you teach the material to yourself. You have to do hundreds of pages of reading and understand the material nearly perfectly before coming to class due to how harsh pop quiz grading is. No slides and no review guides mean that you're on your own 4 exams. harder than any of my 400 lvl classes
While Kammas is an overall super intelligent professor with mindboggling stories and bold opinions to share--- it was at times pretty hard to focus in lectures, as he uses absolutely NO visuals and literally talks for 80mins straight. Readings can be really long I won't lie, but the class talks about some very interesting topics to keep you engaged
Best Professor at USC. He is super sweet and accommodating and his lectures are inspirational. There are 6 quizzes and only the top 4 are counted. 50% of your grade is 2 papers but the prompts are given in the syllabus so you have tons of time to write it. Only complaint is if your TA grades badly or isn't the best you are in trouble.
Professor Kammas is one of the professors I will never forget after graduating SC. Very charismatic, humble, caring, and a bit of a rebel. Movie star presence for sure.
He's super intelligent about what he's teaching about. But he doesn't use any slides or notes at classes, which would make you super hard to be organized when you want to review the class before midterm and final. Actually this is not a easy class, but professor is so chill and nice
Kammas is a super nice guy and a great lecturer. There is an extreme amount of reading for this class, and there are pop quizzes to force you to attend lectures, but the lectures are well worth attending anyway. Highly recommend.
When hearing from him, you can tell he is passionate about his job as a professor and supporting his students. He's also caring and takes on a compassionate side to him within his job, which I feel some professors may lack. He's an intellectual, and his assigned readings are actually really engaging and effective.
Prof. Kammas is passionate and engaging, his lectures will expand your worldview. Readings are heavy, but quizzes are manageable. Feedback can be unclear, but Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing. Overall, an inspiring class if you're willing to put in the work.
A lot of reading, but lectures are very fulfilling. Beyond course readings, there are only a few quizzes and two papers throughout the semester, making this very manageable. Very understanding professor.
Professor Kammas is a great professor, but definitely be up to date with readings, or at least Sparknotes beforehand. The TA was a pretty harsh grader but definitely go to office hours and get help with the essays and you should be fine. Attendance not taken but you may miss a reading quiz and get a zero, but the lowest 2 grades are dropped.
Professor Kammas is an amazing and very intelligent professor. He's funny and always willing to explain things if you don't understand them. However, this class is READING HEAVY. There were nights where we'd be assigned entire books to read for homework before the next class. If you engage with the ideas presented to you, you will do just fine.
Hated this class but was thankful for the easy grading. Not having any slides was so difficult for me to learn any of the material of the class, and I have ADHD and autism so this was a major bummer. Lectures were boring majority of the time, but I'm not a big philosopher.
He is one of the most rewarding profs I've ever had. Super lecture heavy, but you want to hear everything he has to say. Has completely changed my outlook on so many things. I honestly thought about giving him a bad review on this just so I can gatekeep. Reading heavy and pop quizzes. He is funny kind, and a genius. Lots of info to take in though.
2 papers, due at different points in the semester, and 6 reading quizzes (he drops the worst two). If you do the papers early, you can be done by mid-April. Kammas is a FANTASTIC lecturer-- funny, engaging, and great at facilitating discussion. Highly recommend!
I don't think I've ever loved a professor more than Kammas. His lectures are one of the few at SC that have changed the way I think. If you're willing to put in the work and are into philosophical thought I think you shouldn't leave here without taking at least one of his classes.
Professor Kammas embodies the Socratic spirit. Throughout his lectures, he encourages open-minded discussion, criticism, self-criticism, examination of alternative perspectives, and self-discovery. I walked out of his classes as a different person—newer to myself than before. Such experiences are invaluable.
Prof. Kammas is one of the smartest and funniest professors I have ever had. He is genuinely engaged with his students and in the topics we discuss. Reading is heavy, and there are random pop quizzes. If you keep up with it, you'll mostly find them. He's always open to answering questions and very receptive and kind.
Kammas is very insightful but talks at a podium in front of a blank chalkboard the whole time. It was super hard to focus or want to come to class. There are pop quizzes, and you do need to know the material for the tests. I had a great TA who made it a lot easier. Not an easy class, you definitely have to put in work.
Hands down my favorite (and honestly the best) professor at USC. Very accommodating, very understanding, and honestly an easy A if you just do the readings and show up to class.
Kammas is an incredible prof and human. Gives so many opportunities for students to succeed. Going to office hours helps a LOT! Pop quizzes, 2 essays (great course structure). Genuinely love him. Most students in his classes take 2-3 courses w him minimum. I will def take more classes taught by him. One of the best profs at USC hands down.
Kammas's class changed my life - very thought provoking and insightful class
I've taken Prof. Kammas three times at USC, and would probably say he's one of my favorite Political Science Professors at USC. Attendance isn't "mandatory," however, you're graded by multiple quizzes and 2 Papers. His lectures are very eye-opening; however, if you have his class with his TA, Henry, RUN ASAP if you don't want your grade cooked.
Great professor and very interesting lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but there's 5 pop quizzes so u lowkey have to go to every class. Easy to pass if u put in the effort.
One of the smartest and personable professors I have. Very knowledgeable about topics and great at explaining difficult concepts/theories/phenomena. Attendance not mandatory but beware of pop quizzes on the readings (usually 80 + pages). Go to the discussion (for attendance and comprehension). Not an easy class but so rewarding.
Really nice and smart prof. The TA grades all work so it does depend on if you get a good TA. No traditional midterm or final, just two 8 pages essays that you can do at any point during the sem, and pop quizzes on reading, usually easy, but again depends on TA.
Prof is a must take. Inspirational, caring, super intelligent, wants to engage students w material. 6 pop quizzes, 4 count for grade. 4 chances to write 2 papers. TA for me was Henry, idk why everyone says he is a super hard grader? No quizzes unless u already have ur grade for last quiz returned. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Love kammas will take again!
