Professor Krautman is very knowledgeable in economics at the introductory level
This man is dazzlingly sexy!
Hard teacher, but good teacher
Hard prof
very knowlegeable professor, explains everthing well but his tests are hard
Wouldn't provide extra help-Expects test answers done to his standard, any deviation-no credit, even if answer is correct.
Great professor but tests are very challenging
This is one of the most difficult economics classes I have taken. About 1/3 of the class dropped the class after the midterm. He is a really good teacher but tests are very difficult. You do not need to buy text books for this class, just blue book$10.
fantastic teacher and so cute
You know it's bad when you know the material well, and you still have no idea what the h*ll Krautmann is saying! Tests are rough due to the amount of studying necessary. Krautmann should find a new career teaching McDonalds about Supply and Demand.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! His exams are impossible. Your lucky if you get a D.
He does not do curves I find it very disappointing when damn near half the class failed the first exam. I advise people to pay attention and try to get A's on the homework because it might be your only hope
Hardest class I ever took at DePaul and I am on hte Dean's list. COnfusing as hell, midterm and final are very hard. If you don't read the book from cover to cover and due all the homework your screwed. Make sure to do good your 12 page paper.
This guy's tests really aren't that hard if you study. The only problem is that they are long. Ask him for extended time though because he will give it to you if you need it. Make sure to do the homework and that kid is lying about a 12 page paper.
Very unhelpful professor that wants nothing to do with students. Can't be bothered with anything and testing is very tricky with a direct purpose of trying to trick students into poor grades.
Clear amd concise professor. If you do the homework and attempt to study the tests are a breeze. I would take him again. Put forth a smidget of effort and you get an A or B.
HORRIBLE.. TRIED TO TAKE IT IN SUMMER DROPPED THE CLASS. HE SCREAMS NOT TALK. WANTED TO CRY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. HAD TO ASK THE DEAN FOR A REFUND B/C THE GUY WAS SO BAD. Do not take this CLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
I thought he was a great teacher and great guy. If you think he is bad, take Batavia. Don't sleep in his class; he'll call you out big time. Best econ 105 teach out there.
He's ok at explaining things but his exams are tricky, long, and difficult. Both the midterm and Final are each 45 percent of your grade.
He packs so much information into one class it's not even funny. But he is so good at teaching it. READ THE CHAPTERS HE ASSIGNS. Before midterms, I read the chapters he assigned except one, and I didn't understand that portion of the test. Good teacher.
Very passionate about Econ. When he explains what gov. does wrong in Econ, you could see the anger in him. Best teacher in the world!!!!!!!!! I heard Econ was boring but when I came to his class, I was like "what in the world? he's not boring!!!" U won't regret this teacher and I never fell asleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. K. is by far the best proff on camups. He speaks well - has a vast knowledge of all subjects - very SEXY - and I know he must be a great Dad. I never met a more kind and giving person - and he has great deal of passion.
One of the best eco teacher. He teaches so well that you don't even have to buy the book. I made it through the whole class just by writing everything down what he wrote on the board and I ended up with a B. That is pretty good if you don't have a book.
Someone recommended this professor to me. That person must not have liked me because he was unreasonable. I received a D- and when I tried to explain my devotion and 0 missed classes he wouldn't budge. I saw a tutor, did the hmwk and never missed a class. There must be better professors with some sort of heart out there.
really hard grader. explains the stuff pretty well that i didn't even study the book much but just the notes (make sure you go to class everyday or else you'll miss a lot). but once the midterm and final came it was so freakin hard that i barely passed. you have to struggle a good amount in this class.
i never bought the book but went to every class and studied somewhat for the midterm and final and got an A-. he gives some multichoice HWs that take like 5 minutes. he explains things really well but is a bit of a jerk. go to every class and you will pass easily
His class is one of the most interesting I've encountered! He really is engaging and you could see his passion. Highly recommended if you want to learn. You may not get the grade you want, but you will really learn if you've never taken an economics class.
no heart, good teachers but too much ego. hard grader, if you r soso student dont take him u will fail
Very interesting class and he is a really good lecturer. But the MIDTERM IS HARD AS HELL because there is so much information packed into one test. Every minute of his class is important so don’t miss it. If you are a good student and study a lot, and want a challenge I recommend him. But if you are lazy or just an ok student, you will fail.
just pay attention and u'll be fine. good lecturer, easy as hell....
He made Econ interesting. I learned a lot in his class. I would highly recommend him. He gives you study guides for the final and midterm that if you study almost gaurentees you a good grade. Just pay attention and you will be fine.
Doesn't assign work outside of class. Has random attendance policy. Tries to make it fun but doesn't always work
I took this class as a night class, midterm and final are 50% not to mention that questions were very hard. He explains the material pretty good, but you still have to read the book.
MIDTERM 45%, FINAL 45%. IF YOU DO BAD ON THE MIDTERM HE WILL TELL YOU THAT YOUR SCREWED.ITS HARD TO READ HIS HAND WRITING. HE WRITES VERY SMALL. HE IS ALWAYS LATE FOR CLASS. HE PUTS MATERIAL ON TEST THAT WAS NOT ON MIDTERM. AND MAKES IT 10 TIMES HARDER. TAKE A DIFF PROF.
This guy thinks that this is the only class we are taking. Tons of notes, tons of reading, no exam reviews..No nothing. His notes are confusing because they are all over the place.
He is a very helpful teacher. His midterm is a little hard but if you study his notes and also read the book, you will do fine. If you dont like math dont take him but if you do, i highly recommend you take him.
Gives to much material to study. He is also weird and not funny at all. Chocolate easter bunnies? Yup, thats all he talks about. I would highly recomend someone else. No calculators are allowed, and trust me we do need them because we deal with fractions. Please take someone else.
WOW! this guy is the worst guy ever. he is so borring, not funny, and he does not encourage participation. He is not helpful. does not respond to emails. and he doesnt have a heart. Just stay away from him
Anyone who thinks Prof. Krautmann is a bad teacher, does not deserve a college education. He breaks down the topics and makes them painfully clear, so that the average slacker could get by without even reading. I am embaressed for whoever thinks he was bad.
Krautmann is a good teacher, but his class is not easy. A big problem is the midterm and final consist of 90% of your grade(45 each). So if you bomb one basically your in trouble, about 1/4 the class droped after the midterm. I enjoyed his lectures and they were very interesting. If your into the subject, if you take him be ready for a challenge.
he gives a bunch of graphs with no labels or numbers. not to mention, he has very very sloppy handwriting.and its true he does not encourage participation. rude person too
rude rude person. id rather take finance 311 than this introductory class with this professor.
As an economics major, I loved this professor. His teachings are very interesting and his tests are pretty challenging. Take him if you like econ and also a challenge. For those who like easy teachers, stay away!
he is pretty funny. does he care about his students? NO! it takes him several days to get back to students. And makes his exams very very hard.
Great teacher. Sometime he would get a little boring but teaches the subject very well. Thanks to him I am doing great in other econ courses. Do the homwerk. Hard test, but if you study just a bit you will be fine :)
Good Teacher. A lot of reading
This guy is CRAZY about microeconomics! He knows so much on the topic, and his lectures were so thorough that I didn't need the book at all!If you have a question, save it till after class if you want a detailed and helpful answer. Not much time for questions during class, mostly just straight lecture.Take him if you want to do well in future biz cls
extremely boring lecture, repeats himself constantly. Half of the class dropped out after the midterm and his final was even harder! I got an A- in econ106 but a C in his class. dont take him if you want to work hard for a decent grade
The fact that people are criticizing him is just another reason why DePaul needs to lower their acceptance rate. Seriously? His lectures are completely to the point, thorough and he repeats himself so people can understand him, no need for a book. Although his midterm and final are long, he's fair, he actually grades on what he teaches.
He's not that bad. The class is straight lecture and he's very thorough. It makes class time a little boring, but you just have to listen. HW is not that bad. I just really recommend studying for his exams. They can be a little intense, but if you go to class and study you should be fine.
This man is a pure genius. He is so knowledgeable and he is an amazing teacher. Funny and uses language and examples that you can relate to. Best teacher i've ever had.
The most brilliant professor i have ever had. His knowledge level is unrivaled and i've never learned more in an hour period than i did with this man. It's not easy, but take him. Such passion and he's hilarious. This man needs a raise. Best prof of omy life.
He is up there with the very best at Depaul. However, his class is difficult. If you are not prepared to work hard, don't bother taking this class.
he is a great professor. enjoyed his lectures very much. really enjoys what he teaches. class is hard though. grade is based on homework, midterm, and final. his tests are pretty difficult. requires attending lecture and studying. great professor though!
tends to reiterate the simple concepts and not enough the hard ones and doesnt give the best examples...homework and exams are a bit tricky. overall, a fair teacher.
He is a good professor. I don't know why people say his exams are hard. He gives you very detailed notes that you can print out and follow, and he clearly tells you what will be on the exam. I never studied, missed a few classes, and never attended the SI sessions. I got a B+
My whole class probably got C's because of how we couldn't be smarter than the TA's assigned to our class. He does know his stuff and he teaches it effectively. I mean, you'll learn a lot, but just prepare to sacrifice your GPA for it.
AWESOME professor! His lectures are really interesting and he is very dedicated to the material. Midterm and Final are pretty difficult, but as long as you take the time to study you'll be fine. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS!! They really do help!
Take This Professor! I have a bad tendency of sleeping in many of my classes, but this guys lectures kept me awake and excited. I loved going to his class and he literally changed my perception of the world almost every class. Definitely take him.
Krautmann offered an interesting perspective to an entry-level course that ultimately helped me decide to add Economics as one of my majors. Sure, his tests were hard - especially the final - but he was so emphatic and engaging during his lectures, and made me want to pay attention and take copious notes. Dont be afraid to ask clarifying questions!
Really not as hard as a lot of people will say; however, there is a big discrepancy between HW and test difficulty. He has a big pacing problem: too much of the course is spent on simple, elementary concepts while trickier concepts that come later are rushed. Probably a good choice if this is your first econ class; otherwise look elsewhere.
Tony Krautmann is a great guy, but a not-so-great professor. In class, he tends to ramble on incoherently, often ending up on strange tangents, while juggling the microeconomics course load. What he explained in the class and in his notes (btw you don't need the book for his class), was COMPLETELY different from the final. Beware. Take someone else
Do not take. He does not care about his students. Easy homework will deceive you. His notes are scattered and he lectures the entire time without pause. Homework and class lectures do NOT prepare you for the exams, which are extremely difficult. The majority of our class did very poorly on exams and he blamed it on us.
Krautmann is not a good professor. Midterm and Final exams were difficult and tricky while hw assignments seemed easy. Classtime is devoted to stories and simply topics while tests are very advanced. Ended the class with a C-, DO NOT TAKE
Basically like everyone else's comments.. His lectures and homework's are no where near as difficult as the tests. Homework and attendance are worth 20% of your grade which is a nice cushion but not worth it. He rambles to himself and talks very causally while his tests are not. Be prepared to work hard for a C
This class is all calculus, no economics. His test are MUCH harder than HW, but if you can complete his study guides to their entirety, you are ready for the test. But you should also review notes, he always throws one curve-ball question in there. Grading is VERY reasonable. Doesn't encourage office hours, but willing to help in class. HW easy.
Indeed, his tests are difficult and include a lot of thinking out of the box. I really enjoyed his class because I took the time to understand what he was teaching. I asked questions and kept up with each lesson. Another thing that helped me greatly was the SI sessions that were available. Don't be lazy and get ready to study your butt off.
TONY! Great guy, very helpful. A little abstract with his lectures, and does tend to go on short tangents, but they usually come back and relate to the topic. Took Eco 105 with crazy Eastern European lady the year before. Krautmann is like like night and day. Helpful not a lot of homework. But be prepared to study for exams. 1010 would take again
His lectures are far from being like the test. I studied hard but I didn't get what I wanted for this class. It completely messed up my gpa. If I knew I would not have taken this class.
He has to be one of the smartest professor's at DePaul University! Very funny, very nice, and I really wanted to listen to his every word. He knows so much and he has a gift to speak to all,,,
He lectures the whole class, but he really knows the subject and teaches it in a way that interests students. His tests are tough and you will really need to study for the mid term and final exam as they amount to 80% of your grade. He's a good guy and there for you if you need help, but the class is a little more on the challenging side.
Tony is a great professor! He lectures the entire class period, but always kept me interested because he was SO enthusiastic! He is THE quickest grader ever, always willing to help and clear in his instruction! This course was very b&w. There was no gray area to recover points. You either knew it or you didn't. If you stay engaged you will do well!
Krautmann is a decent professor. His lectures are long and pretty dense but the information is all there and the notes are online. Don't even attempt to skip class though, he takes off big for absences and his exams are straight from his lectures. Note: his 2 exams make up 80% of your grade. Be prepared.
Professor Krautmann is a good professor. He knows a lot about what he teaches. He lectures the entire class and they can be long at times but, he is usually pretty enthusiastic about what he is teaching. You do get homework but it isn't every class and not that difficult. The tests are relatively hard. Make sure to study for them!
Tony is great! I had him for 505 which was my first graduate level class. He types the notes for you so you can take additional notes on them while you lecture. He isn't trying to fool you or trick you on the exam, and his door is always open. It is a hard class, but its graduate level economics, it's going to be challenging.
He has all the lecture notes posted for you. If you read all the handouts that he has for you with details and do the homework, then that would me a class alot easier. Its a tough class, but his exams are very straight forward. He will tell you what will be on it and it is your responsibility to take time to study and understand that material.
Does not make understanding economics easy. His lecture examples are long and not particularly interesting. SI sessions did not help (not his fault) and his midterm / final are ridiculously hard. Tough grader. If you need help go seem him outside of class, he's pretty helpful and a nice guy overall. Passed, but was a big struggle. Would not take!
Wish I would have dropped! Midterm 45%, Final 45%. Extremely difficult class and he is not helpful. Good luck!
Professor Krautmann is a kind person, come into his office during hours and he will help you out. However that's aside from the fact that his lectures are boring, long, and barely helpful. As many people have said on here before - tests are HARD. Micro is hard, but his tests are beyond logical difficulty. I dont know many people who did well!
Keeps your attention during lectures but tests are killer. Studied for many many hours + went to SI, still got low marks. I'd take someone who's a bit easier and understands not everyone is an Econ major!
He lectures every class and writes too quickly on the chalk board. His way of teaching is confusing and he uses methods that no other economics teachers use. Don't take him.
His lectures are pretty easy to follow since he posts them online before class. If you print them out and follow them it makes a lot more sense. However, the homeworks and exams are really difficult!
His lectures are dense and his tests are extremely difficult. Overall not horrible, but I wouldn't definitely not take his class again.
I took Tony's 505 class as an undergraduate and quickly learned not to underestimate the difficulty of the material. He wants you to pass, but you have to earn it. Know your calculus and form a study group. Great guy, funny lectures, good class. Very accessible and puts his very good lecture notes online. Would take him again.
This was a very hard class. You really have to pay attention in class and make sure your understand every detail in order to get a good grade. He does gives homework and some of the problems are similar on the exam. You need to practice a lot in order to do well in the class. If you want to challenge yourself, then take him.
Tony is a great professor took this as an undergrad, really had no idea how hard the grad level would be. He made it super easy to understand the material. Lectures were always on point, always available to answer questions. I went to his office regularly not during office hours and always willing to help you understand. Wish he taught more classes
I was so happy to take this class first after 3 years of been out of college. This is a tough class guys, be ready to put in the work. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Makes a hard subject understandable. He is available at all times, clear and caring. Best professor and class I have ever taken.
Average professor, just show up and do the homework/ study hard for the mid term and final and you should be fine.
Krautman is a good professor, very passionate, and gives you a lot of information. Sometimes he gets a little lost because he love the subject, and it makes it a bit confusing, but he's very helpful outside of class. I'd recommend him if you enjoy economics, and you want to learn something.
He is very passionate & very animated, but he's kind of all over the place. He talks really quickly & if you miss something it is easy to get lost. Also, D2L wasn't very organized you have to look in 3 different places to find class materials for 1 class. I took this as a 5-week summer course and you really don't have time to absorb the material.
I have never had a hard time understanding such a simple class. I studied, went to SI sessions, watched videos online, and still struggled severely. DO yourself a huge favor and DO NOT take this class.
He is a very nice man. He is funny too. I had a very hard time in this class though. He is so nice so I feel bad saying this, but I just can't understand his lectures. I studied a lot and went to SI sessions and i'm barely passing.
Sometimes he can be a little confusing with how he explains things, but if you go through the lecture notes he posts online and take good notes, you will be fine. Overall very passionate about economics and a great teacher.
Amazing prof his lectures are to the point and he provides clever examples that helps students remember better. Passionate about econ, great class!!
Honestly one of the best professors at DePaul. Probably one of the harder ECO 105 professors, which is already a tough class, but he is a great professor and you will learn a lot. Don't expect a free ride though - but if you want to be properly set up for future classes, definitely recommend
Didnt miss a single class, yet was confused all the time. Textbook didnt help as material was more in depth than intro level book. SI sessions also didnt help because other ECO 105 classes covered different things. He was obviously very knowledgeable but not great at passing that knowledge onto others. You will draw so many graphs.
Does not give good directions and expects you to know what to do. Replies to emails with very vague answers. Does not care about students. Do not take his online classes. If you are reading this, you're welcome.
Last of a dying breed- but in a good way. Outdated teaching style. Not helpful.
This professor is very old school. Only a couple homework assignments that are graded harshly, the midterm, and the final are the only things put into the grade book. His class lectures have nothing to do with the homework, you basically have to teach yourself everything.
Clearly very knowledgeable but not very good at passing that knowledge to others. His lectures are dry and boring, and he manages to make easy introductory economics very confusing. OLDSCHOOL professor, very nitpicky grader, does not utilize technology well. Do yourself a favor and find another professor.
Prof Krautmann is a good professor. If you pay attention and ask questions, you will succeed. His lectures are pretty long and boring if you don't naturally enjoy econ, but he explains the content in ways you can understand and is passionate about microeconomics. The midterm and final are 80% of your grade, so make sure you are prepared for them.
Professor K. is an extremely old school teacher. He is a super nice guy who has some funny stories throughout the quarter. He will not answer your emails. The class is based off a midterm, final, and 10 homework's (all are extremely hard). Overall, I would probably take his class again because he is a nice guy and I actually learned a lot.
Professor Krautmann is an old school professor, but he is nice and very knowledgable. You only have 3 grades for the quarter, which is annoying. It would have been helpful for there to be a slideshow presented during class instead of just a notes sheet that he references, but if you go to the lectures and do your best on the HW, you should be fine.
Professor Krautmann is a great guy, classes are lots of fun, homework is very easy. Unfortunately, the midterm and final which count for 80% of your grade are very hard and full of unnecessary questions that will not help you in the business world. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met though.
Had him over 30 years ago and really miss his teaching skills.
He isn't even bad at teaching, the structure of the class is just horrible. He doesn't give the midterm until end of week 6, and it's worth 40% of the grade. He doesn't write it himself, and doesn't teach the content on it. Therefore, there's almost no chance of passing, and you've wasted almost 7 weeks if you fail. Avoid him!!
He clearly knows the subject very well but the way he explains everything is just so confusing. I'm not a business major so this was a lot harder for me than most people probably. Midterm and final both online, and homework every week. No attendance
Professor Krautmann is such a nice man but his lectures are hard to follow and confusing. Attendance is not mandatory, and tbh being at the lectures doesn't really help. 10 homework assignments, a midterm, and a final and that's it.
such a nice prof. attendance is not required, heavily online-based; he posts OPTIONAL textbook readings, videos, and online lecture notes. midterm and final was online, and homework was a quiz each week (not in class). lectures can be long and repetitive, but he tries to be funny for students. the ppl on here are super harsh.
Very nice and respectful. Super educated in what he's talking about. Classes are lecture heavy and no power point which makes it harder to comprehend the material. Majority of the time I'm just lost and can't understand anything so it's mostly just reviewing the lecture notes and searching up materials online. If you do the work, you can pass.
I don't like ECON so I didn't really put in effort or study a lot but I know that if I did I would've gotten a better grade because he gives you everything you need and answers questions. His grading is fair too.
would not recommend.
light work if you actually pay attention to the lectures - only 1 homework assignment a week (10 questions usually multiple choice) and take home midterm/final
Very knowledgable and passionate. Lecture heavy and doesn't use slides so can be a little hard to follow but if you pay attention and take notes you'll do fine. Posts lecture notes on D2L so you can find everything there for the hw and exams. Weekly homework assignments and easy take home midterm and final. Curved the midterm and gave extra credit.
The professor is knowledgeable, but his lectures can be confusing. Attendance is mandatory, but not super helpful. The grading is fair, with midterms and finals online. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing for exams.
No slides/good examples in lectures. He always runs off on tangents. It's hard to pay attention to him for long periods of time because he just keeps talking. It's not even active learning he doesn't ask students any questions he just yaps. He also grades really tough; never gives any explanations for why he marked you wrong only takes points off.
Do not take him. The midterm and final are take home, but they are the hardest exams I have ever took in my life. He is not helpful when asking for homework support, and he is so boring. Save yourself.
Professor is no help when asking for assistance on homework or other assignments. Yaps in lectures with zero slides and the videos he provides on d2l about his lectures usually were not working well. Exams are take home but can be tough. I am usually a straight A student and had a perfect 4.0 that is gone due to this class.
Although attendance isn't graded, if you don't go to class and aren't familiar with economics, you will be lost. Everything is take home. Exams are more difficult, but if you have taken good notes or use the tutoring available, you should be good. Please make sure you take notes on how to graph, it is so important to this class. Pay attention.
