So far, Tony has been a great instructor. He's VERY informative about anything that would benefit you as an Accounting major. He's very thorough in his teaching and makes sure that you understand what's being taught.
Yes, I agree. He is a very thorough teacher. He wants every one understand the materials well. Great teacher! you will learn a lot from his class, but at the same time you will have a lot of assignment to do. And all homeworks are graded. Hard working teacher!
Prick... Tough... All teaching is on powerpoint slides... When you dont understand he simply says why dont u understand? I tought u how to do it... Each homework assignment took about 2-3 hours and he doesnt teach you how to do the problems before the homework but expects you to just know. In class bores students by reading off slides.
this class was not easy. the homework takes hours and he moves at a very fast pace. the class did terrible the the exams and he still didnt get it. he lectures from the powerpoint and tries to fit in to much information into to little time. its not an impossible class, but you have to be willing to work
Good prof, expects a lot out of students. You have to read the chapter over the weekend, then he discusses it the first day of the week, you have homework that takes between 2-7 hours that he goes over on the 2nd day of class in the week(he randomly collects it for a grade)& it starts all over again for next week.Exams are every 3 chapters & are tough.
PRICK...HAHAHA Just Kidding. Whoever wrote that obviously does not understand that material is tough and there are only so many ways to go over it. If you can't understand business maybe try another Major! Is a good teacher and is improving as time goes on. Work hard, ask specific questions, study, and in the end don't blame anyone but yourself
this is a tough class, but it is because of the material, not the professor. he explains everything very well and the exams are always what you do in the homework. yes the homework takes awhile to do, but if you understand the homework you will do well on the exams. he is very helpfull, but get ready to work because the material is tough.
Very good professor! you just have to read the chapters! who ever wrote the prick is OBVIOSILY fresh out of high school and haven't made the transition to adult hood. you want an A then you better read and do HW before you come to class. Kurek is a great professor who is willing to help anytime.
Tony is very informative, especially anything that will benefit you as an Accounting major. Some of his assignments outside of the textbook will definitely benefit any major student (ie; resume, program study). He's very thorough and well organized. He makes sure that you understand what's being taught. Sometimes he moves at a fast pace, but ot
Very informative and organized. I gained more from this class than any other class I took this semester. Material isn't a cake walk- so be ready to read a lot. If you do the hw and take the class notes and lectures seriously, you will do great. Professor Kurek is very willing to help so go to his office hours if needed!
I took his 241 fall semester 2008 Horrable. 40% of the class failed at the end of the sememster. If you are not an accounting major I would not suggest him. He is not flexable at all. Example,He went over the chapter on tuesday and expected 5 pages of homework typed only. due wed. he would not give us the weekend to do it and turn it in on tuesday.
he is really good and hot!
Wonderful teacher ! He takes the time to meet with you if you don't understand the material. Hard grader, but overall I learned alot.
Prof. Kurek is a incredible instructor. The people, who don't want to study hard, say he is bad instructor. Actually, he is one of the best prof. at EMU
Great an explaining every last little detail. Gives you plenty of practice examples before testing. Hes relatively young and very ambitious to teach. Best accounting teacher i've had so far.
I took him for both 240 and 241, he was great. He is extremely helpful and caring professor. If you show up do all your homework you will be fine. Even if you don't do so well on the exams the in class exercises, computer projects, and homework will save you. I would recommend him for everyone!!!
Shows you how to do the homework; he doesn't just give you the answers. Really enjoyed taking this class. He has a good memory- he recognized me even a year after I took his class. He is easy to talk to. I strongly recommend taking him if you can. He throws no curve balls- he'll nearly tell you what to study for. Learned a lot!
Professor Kurek is very intelligent and knows the material he teaches. He is demanding yet understands that accounting concepts are not easily grasped by all, so if you apply yourself and make a good effort he'll be willing to help you as much as he can. He's also EXTREMELY easy on the eyes.
I am so glad Prof Kurek was my accounting prof. He makes everything very easy to understand and if you don't understand, he's more than happy to help. I have emailed him numerous times for help with homework and when he explains it it's like "how did I not know that!"
Excellent teacher. He cares, he communicates effectively, he wants you to learn. He is respectful and he knows this material since he used to do cost accounting at an accounting firm. Memo to EMU accounting professors: Kurek can teach you how to teach.
Prof Kurek is the perfect prof to be teaching cost accounting. He knows the topics and knows how to convey them in a way that is easy to understand. HIs class is difficult to get into because, for some reason, the school only gives him one of the sections of it. EMU: Give Kurek a double section to tech. He's the best!
This professor is excellent at lectures. He is very clear - worth every penny of tuition to register for his class.
Mr. Kurek is great! He teaches the material well, and is more concerned with you actually comprehending the material then having you memorize formulas. He is very understanding of issues that come up in daily life and will work around things for you. He is also ver accessable outside of class. He returns emails within hours. I would take him again!
Kurek is a great teacher. He really wants the students to understand the material and works very hard to ensure that they do. He is accessible outside of class, if you have problems, and he also understands that even if school is a top priority for you, that doesn't mean it's the ONLY thing going on in your life. Highly recommended instructor.
He was not my teacher but he subsituted for my class often. He is a great teacher. Considering his great teaching skills and attractiveness being a non-accounting major I understand his lectures perfectly clear and loved the subject. Any class he teaches I would take!
Great teacher! Wants to answer any question you may have. Will email back in hours or even minutes. Very nice to look at in class, very nice! Most have teacher.
Mr. Kurek is an excellent teacher, and has a great deal of knowledge pertaining to Accounting. As I've made my way through other classes this semester in particular, many students that have had him in the pass speak very highly of him too...If you print out the slides and follow along before class, it should be a breeze.
Great guy. Very smart. Subject is difficult and he tries to explain so you can understand. I took the class in Winter 2010, and the textbook he had to use was pretty useless. He bends over backwards to help.
I love professor Kurek. He's very knowledgeable and explain things very well!
If you attend class, do the homework and study you will do well in Kurek's class. He does not curve but if you do the Homework and pay attention you can ace the class without a curve! Kurek is a very good teacher and is very helpful, highly recommended!!!
Kurek is an awesome teacher, he knows his material and is eager to teach his students. He takes the time to make sure you understand what he is teaching and if you have questions he is more than happy to answer them! Kurek does not grade on a curve but if you do the homework and show up you will NOT need a curve to ace the class! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I am an A student before going into this class and I was lucky to get by with a C. Kurek is a very harsh grader and tests are extremely tough, mainly consisting of trick questions. He does not do reviews for tests and does not grade on a curve. He truly made me loose the joy of learning accounting. I would not recommend taking him!
Kurek flies through the material at lightening speed. Very difficult to follow because of this. He does go through examples, but its like trying to get a drink from a fire hose! impossible to take it all in. So I find myself trying to make sense of it at home. Must study/practice very hard for his exams. Online HW is fairly easy. No grade curve
He was helpful and worked with you if you were honest and tried!
I'm currently in Tony's ACC 241 class. He makes things so easy to understand and makes them a joy to learn. My first exam I did well but it was a little hard. There were no surprise questions though. The homework is easy and helpful. I would say go to class if you want to pass. He covers a lot of material. Not to mention hes easy on the eyes;)
Professor Kurek is an outstanding accounting teacher. I learned a lot from him and I only hope to have all the rest of my accounting classes with him. It is a lot of work, but if you come to class and give the homework your best attempt you will get a good grade.
Picky Instructor! You will receive two huge group projects that will take a lot of time and due near finals. ALWAYS take notes! He does not provide "solutions" for in class exercises. Group Essay - He will deduct points for "extra spaces" or if he doesn't like how you worded sentence. Also, random attendance points taken. Show up to class.
Professor Kurek was mostly concerned with whether students actually understood the material. His commentary was often humorous. He explained every concept thoroughly and showed the class multiple ways to solve each problem.
I wish he just taught all of the accounting courses. I have never taken accounting, but thanks to Mr. Kurek I got over 100% in this course. He is extremely good at explaining concepts, and is very available for help, with extra credit available. TAKE KUREK! You will not regret it!!
Great prof. Semi-challenging material. I got C's on all 3 tests and still ended up with a B in the course. Go to class and SI sessions to receive easy points. Hardly used book.
Anthony Kurek is easily the best accounting professor Eastern has. He speaks very clearly, and does a great job of providing context for all the topics covered in the class. Homework and small projects help make up for tests if you don't score high on them. Take accounting with Kurek. You'll walk away having learned something.
he is good teacher but his exams are extremly hard
Decent professor, if you try to get on his good side. If you are quiet and don't ask questions or shy he does not interact well with you. He explains things very well, however, he explains them several times in several different ways that by the time he is done I had no idea what he was talking about.
I have since graduated and still upset about this course. I showed up to every class and office hours for help. Kurek still gave me a D in the class. I got all a"s and b's in all of my other classes. He does not care about students well being and lacks compassion as a teacher. This is the first bad review I have ever written. don't take him!
Love his class. Teaching style is easily understood and just attending class and doing the homework gets you at least a C.
Great guy, great teacher. He knows what he's doing and will be sure you do too, if you allow he to. Do the homework and go to class you'll get at lease a C. Do that and attend SI sections, he'll give you extra points.
Professor Kurek is one of the best professors I've had! Not only is he extremely smart but he is NORMAL! Rather than making you feel belittled or nervous to approach him, he makes you feel like he is just a classmate. When you are having trouble, he takes the time to talk you through it. This is a tough class but Kurek made it somewhat enjoyable.
Great teacher but tough grader. I think he should have been a little more lenient with the special projects. You only have one shot. I learned tons from him & still email him a lot for any questions. He is a great source, and even though he's younger, he's a whiz and really does care. He does push you and sometimes we need that. He's the bomb. :)
Very good professor, very knowledgeable. Can learn a lot and do well if you attend class.
He's a great teacher. Tough but wants the students to get something out of this class. He will help you and answers emails right away. Lots of communication. He always tells you if you change something on the syllabus. Real stand up guy, good morals, and integrity. Wish he would teach more classes.
I can't say enough nice things about this teacher. He cares, answers emails, tells you where to go for another class if you need someone, and truly knows the material. He gives you other sources and examples in class to master the homework. He's a great teacher. He opened me up to other accounting fields and peaked my interest. Highly reccomended.
Highly recommend Prof. Kurek. Really professional and upstanding guy. Extremely approachable and easy to relate to. Makes the material easy to understand. He'll make you work for a good grade, but if you go to class and do the homework, you shouldn't have any trouble passing.
If you have another choice for 296, you may want to take someone other than Kurek. Too much ego, too much trying to be the smartest one in the class. Nit picky grader, even though he tells you what he is looking to find. The material is hard enough than to have to deal with that. I got an A but I'm still ticked after this class.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable and wants to help his students. It's a tough class but you have to do the work. He will help you if you ask for it. He doesn't want you to fail. You learn so much in his classes but you have to attend.
Here is a great professor who really knows what he is teaching and cares that you learn it and understand. He always has office hours and is there to help you master the course material. This wasn't an easy class but he was there to help the class along. He will also push you because he knows you have the capabilities to go the extra mile.
I wish I had more classes that I could take with Tony.
He knows his stuff and he teaches it accordingly. He teaches to the whole class on everyones level, if there is a question he is the first one to address is and get you back onto the same page.
He has worked in the field of Accounting so his knowledge of the subject is great and is not all just from a textbook. There is a quite a bit of homework, but it is straight forward. If you show up to class you will at least pass, but you may need to put in extra time for the A.
Tony was an amazing teacher & great guy. He really cares about his students, and tries to make a potentially boring subject fun. You know what he expects out of you, & he is very clear and fair with assignments and grading. If you have any problems he is very willing to help. Weekly homework online (unlimited attempts until you get 100%)-not hard
Anthony is an awesome professor. I took him for ACC296 too. He's good eye candy too!
Great professor! The homework is online and uses a great system, it's not too time consuming but you still learn more from it. He's very clear on what he wants to you know for the tests and stresses that he's available to help. Would definitely take another class with him!
Tony is a great professor and he is SUPER hot! He is extremely helpful and cares about his students. He tries to make a boring topic fun. He has a good sense of humor but will still make sure to teach you the things you need to know. He has no problem taking a little extra time to help you.
Amazing professor! Somehow he makes accounting relatively interesting, and he is very good at conveying the material and explaining things further if people have questions about it. The class was a fair amount of work, but I learned a lot.
2nd time I've taken Prof Kurek, always helpful and really knowledgeable about accounting. In this class you work on your resume and he has experience recruiting. He does work at a little bit of a fast pace, so if you're not into accounting be prepared. Homework is online, exams are graded tough but fairly. I like Kurek all around.
Tough subject, but professor Kurek is highly recommend. Really puts the time in to help his students.
Tony is very good professor and excellent accountant at the same time!! He tried to give us his experience on accounting field as much as possible. It is so helpful and motivate you. Also, he is very kind and humorous so that most students who have ever took his class want to take his another classes. He gives study guide!!
The class was really hard, but Tony made the material so much easier to understand. The examples he does in class helped me so much on the tests. The HW is mandatory, but extremely helpful, because it includes tutorials on how to work through similar problems. Would recommend 10/10.
Tony Kurek is by far one of the best professors I've had. He is passionate about what he does, and it makes the class enjoyable. His teaching style is awesome, and he makes use of great examples in class to really help you understand the material. His lectures are always interesting.
Prof. Kurek is a great instructor! He was very informative and also made sure that everyone was on the same page. For an accounting class, this was a pretty fun lecture. Defiantly take him for accounting! Not to mention he's a CPA. Why not?
Best professor I have had at EMU. Has a great passion for accounting and it shows. Would recommend him 100%.
Besides being the hunk of the Accounting department with a Thor-like body and a mind like Rain Man, Tony was a top-tier prof. Utilized all different teaching methods from lecture, to in class work, to connect homework. Seemed like he genuinely gave a damn about his students. 11/10 would take again. Maybe he will be single next time...
Great professor that really wants you to do well. The class is meant to prep you for other accounting classes so there is a lot crammed into one course but Kurek is upfront about it from the beginning. He is very clear about when things are due and is very accessible outside of class.
Kurek is a super nice guy who really wants you to succeed in his class. The material is dry, but he does his best to keep you engaged. He always goes over online homework and also does in-class exercises which are very helpful. Also always willing to help/be available outside of class (e-mail or office hours). Take him if you can.
he may try to be friendly, he makes you go the long way to do anything he does not believe in shortcuts, very strict rules, his tests are nothing like his homework or what he gives in class
This class was tough for me but I don't think I could have done it if I didn't take Kurek. He spends time going over the homework and explaining everything. He will stop and go over things again if you don't understand. He really wants the class to do well and there's opportunity to get points on assignments so it's not just tests making your grade
nothing comes from the lectures on the exams. He go so fast you won't understand anything. If any one keep asking what they don't know he'd be like no silly question or "I don't know what are you talking about at this time." exams are so hard nothing would come from the homework either.
After the first exam youll be surprised on second and final exam. Exams are kind of hard.
Great professor he wants everyone to pass his class and if you try you shouldn't have a problem receiving an A. The homework assignments are easy and the exams are only difficult if you don't try to understand the material.
three exams, two computers projects, no partial credit you have to get the right answer, show all works in order to get the full credit for it on the exams. Nothing comes from the lectures or homework on the exams.
He doesn't know how to teach. He lectures from power point. Exams are very difficult. Nothing comes from the lectures. You have to study your own and you are going to get surprise in exam. Nothing comes from the homework or in class assignment. Avoid taking him if you can.
Understands exactly what he is talking about and makes sure that you do too. All lectures and example are available on Canvas from day 1. Show up to understand everything fully, but attendance is not mandatory. Homework is weekly on connect. Tests are hand written and DO NOT utilize excel, understanding and practicing is key.
Had him for two classes and I think he's a great professor. He lectures from PowerPoint Presentations, but breaks down on what they're all about. Homework is weekly online and his tests are hard, but based on the lectures. Do not try to memorize the answers, but try to understand how to solve it and look at the logic behind the problems.
Great professor. Knows what he's doing. I hate accounting, but he makes sure you learn it if you're having trouble. If you go to class and participate and do the homework you'll be able to pass. Don't skip. Really nice guy. Highly recommend him
exams are hard. nothing comes from the homework. you will be surprised with every exams.
don't take his class !!! you won't pass he doesn't know what he lectures and what he gives on the exam. exams will be hard you'll be surprised.
Worst class plz dont take his class
In my opinion, his PowerPoint lectures are quite useless. He goes too fast and skips through important slides without explaining everything. However, his class is fun and not at all hard to pass. Just watch Edspira or khan academy on youtube and you'll ace any intro accounting class.
Tony does an amazing job teaching a tough subject. He always makes sure students understand how and why the accounting problems work! You must do homework or you will not pass and you must buy the book.
By far the greatest professor I've had while attending EMU. I wish he taught accounting 241, because I was hoping to take him for that class as well. You can tell that he's very knowledgeable about the subject and cares about his students and their grades. He'll do whatever possible for you to understand the material. 10/10 would recommend.
This professor is an okay professor. He lectures everyday and goes through the slides pretty quickly so youll have to go back through on your own. Tests are pretty hard but there are study group sessions!
He is an okay professor at best. Only reads from the power points which he does not make and rarely does in class examples. All the homework is online and they do not follow the tests. Even if you do the study-guide, it does not help. There are only 2 tests and it makes up almost 50% of your grade. I am an A student and I barely passed with a C+.
Tony is an amazing professor. One of the best I've ever had. Would take him again in a heartbeat. Great individual, informative; helpful lectures. Great power point notes. He puts in a position to succeed. If your an accounting major I highly recommend him. Very enthusiastic about the topics. Super knowledgeable as well, very helpful. An educator.
Tony is very clear with expectations and if you do the homework and listen in class, his teaching style will help you pass. He is responsive and gives good feedback. He truly cares about his students.
Very knowledgeable professor. He was very helpful in tell us what we need to study to be successful and offered group tutoring outside of class. He cares about the success of his students and he wont go to another subject unless EVERYONE understands. Hes pretty easy on the eyes too.
Professor Kurek is a clear and helpful teacher. His homework assignments can be messy and unhelpful so be sure to take notes and make friends in class. The lecture itself can be boring to follow but he knows what he is talking about and can communicate it sufficiently. Overall, a decent class but I probably would try someone else before taking him.
He is very organized and passionate about Accounting, his lectures are really fast paced, and exams are hard. The homework and the connect learnsmart assignments are fairly easy. Attend the study sessions they're helpful and use his study guide. He has surprise in class exercises so go to the lectures. Cares if his students actually understand!
Kurek is a solid professor, although he moves a little too fast online. This is a difficult class to understand and a lot of people get caught behind. There are 7 homeworks, 7 learnsmarts, and 3 exams. He gives up to 10 extra credit points, and is truly a nice guy. Just a hard class and he moves a little fast.
Worst accounting class I ever took
Professor Kurek works hard for his students, and he expects the same out of his class. My only complaint is that his online class sessions are very lecture heavy and dense. Kurek speaks quickly, so sometimes it's hard to keep up, and I'm a native English speaker! Highly recommend Kurek as a whole.
Professor Kurek is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. Goes into great detail about content and if you pay attention and practice what you learn you will do well on his tests. He doesnt try to trick you like other teachers Ive had try to do.
The class is pretty easy to pass if you pay attention and read the book and do the homework. He had us pay 15 bucks for a proctoring service which sucked.
Professor Kurek was a very good teacher in accounting but this class was very difficult to take online. His exams are proctored so that sometimes made it very difficult. Lots of reading and studying involved in this class but if you understand accounting I would take it with him.
This was an Online Synchronous class, but professor Kurek did not disappoint! His class is lecture heavy but he is great at explaining things in further detail when the class had questions. Expectations were explained and well known. Very good at communication outside of class times. Highly recommend!
Professor Kurek gives good feedback and can communicate well. This class though, is extremely hard and he doesn't make it any easier. He gives way too much homework that is very time consuming and all excel based. He does not give examples and solve them in class which made the exam a lot harder and confusing. Be careful! One of the hardest classes
Won't take this professor again for accounting. He's so hard to take & this class is very hard. But I would say that he is a good professor for lectures which was one thing I did like. Exams are very hard, the first exam the class average was a "C" to let you all know how hard his exams are. Plus you have to use a certain calculator for this class
Anthony is great! He is very organized, knowledgeable, and the expectations are clear. There are three exams, homework due by class twice-weekly, and a couple of Excel projects that he walks you through it step-by-step. There are videos you should watch before class to understand the lectures. Extra credit & study guide at SI session.
Professor Kurek is truly a good guy. I feel like outside of class he's the kind of guy you'd want to go golfing with on weekends. But if I'm being honest he teaches really fast - as in when he's lecturing you gotta scribble to make sure you get everything down. Super test heavy, if you don't study you're screwed. PAY ATTENTION, & do extra credit!
Terrible instruction covered too many advanced techniques for basic accounting, and I did not get a proper calculator for students to use on the exam. Oh, we also could not use excel.
I took Kurek Winter 22, and he quickly became my favorite professor at Eastern. Lectures are amazing, speaks incredibly clear, post additional videos for help, and obviously wants his students to succeed. His way of teaching ensures you actually learn the material. I looked forward going to this class and I cannot say enough good things.
Good guy but I barely understood a word he said. The stuff we went over was very confusing. The SI was more helpful.
Professor Kurek - top 3 of best instructors I had at EMU. While the course is challenging, he delivers engaging and interactive lectures that effectively clarify the content. There was a significant amount of homework, but it is a 600-level course, and I appreciate him making worthwhile the cost we pay for tuition. Plus - he's easy on the eyes! :)
