This is more than just an English class. This is a class on life and how you interpret it. If you are prepared to think you will do fine. I have taken so much from his classes, and I will never be the same.
best teacher i ever had wish he taught more than english
I enjoyed being in the class and looked forward to our next class. Professor made the class interesting and easy to grasp.
I enjoyed Professor MulHolland unorthodox approach to his class. He helped open my heart, and my mind just followed. Thank You.
Mr. Mulholland is the man, he has a unique ability of getting the message home for intellectual and commone sense folks at the same time. If he has a class available that you are required to take please do yourself a favor and enroll in it. It will make your college experience better.
He's the "**** DAddyy" On the real tip best teacher Iv'e had in all my years of schooling
What up Professor!!!! This is Wayne....I know you are reading this...How many hours do you spend looking at this? See you in World Lit next semester. Great English professor everyone...he taech me lots.
The Godfather of Teachers! If you come to him with respect and offer friendship, he will grant you the favor of his wisdom. But if you cross him (by arguing with him in class) he will crush you and you will "sleep with the handouts!"
Incredible teacher. Very Unorthadox, yet I would never have learned as much if he were. Great personality. Be prepared to THINK. Only thing that I disagreed with was the showing of R rated movies, but he is still one of my favorite teachers.

I just want to say that this man has changed my perspective and how I view things in life! You can never see life the same after taking any of his classes, he wont let us just get by like most do. Be prepared to think, but in a good way. Even though I havent had the chance to take more of his classes, this is a man of wisdom and I definitly could see myself hanging with him.
makes math interesting
I am learning a lot from this teacher. He is all about symbols, and seeing things for what they are. Very Smart and Clever! Hey Wayne... if you read this, I think you are a cutie. I don't know how to talk to you. I like tall guys!! Sorry Mr. Mulholland... gotta say what I gotta say!
Why is it what it is?
Be prepared to think. And trust that after a semester you will never see anything as you did before you came in the class. His style is unique and he makes it fun and enjoyable to be in. Do your work, don't be lazy and you'll be just fine. He's funny and intelligent and overall I'd highly recommend him to anyone else
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A PROFESSOR THAT'S EASY..U NEED TO GO WITH MULLHOLLAND. JUST DO THE PAPERS..RARELY READ BECAUSE HE GOES THROUGH IT..BUT ALSO BE PREPARED TO COME UP WITH AN ANSWER..BECAUSE HE WILL GO FOR EVERYONE ESPECIALLY THE ONES WHO DONT TALK AND SIT IN THE BACK!
One of the best teachers i have ever had! Be prepared to open your mind and your imagination. There should be more Professors like him teaching today. A few words of caution though, you will never look at a movie the same way again!!! ;)
very easy going, doesn't fail students. very fair and explains everything. will really open up your eyes.
Thank You for everything! Mr. Mulholland. I really seen things in a whole new perspective. Your teaching method was different but unique. This class was great. I did not agree with the comment that your 5/16 student gave you uncall for. Everyone else you will see English taught in a whole new way....
To be or not to be, Oh wait, Wrong class. Or is it... A very good teacher! If this class doesn't teach you how to think, then your brain dead...Simply ingenious!!! two thumbs up!!!
He knows what he is talking about. He opens your eyes to new ideas. He gets the whole class involved so that everyone is paying attention so you don't fail. Very easy-going. You want to take one of his classes.
He's a master teacher! Encourages thinking, and is very patient. He heightens your senses, and he is very dedicated to each and every student. Pushes you to your full potential, and he is sexy as hell! He makes coming to class pleasurable...lol! You get what you deserve in this class. Give your all!
Easy on grade IF you do what he wants you to do. Just follow his order of essay then there is no excuse for you not to get an A... LOTS OF WHY THOUGH!
HE IS THEEEE BEST PROF. THAT I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN COLLEGE! SWERIOUSLY TAKE HIM! HE IS AWESOME! lets you rewrite essays very helpful and patient! I LOVED GOING TO HIS CLASS!!!!!
Remarkable professor, who understands the usage of Literature in the modern world. Lectures and demonstrates on works which at first may seem daunting but soon become clear as the works are taken apart and offered in ways prior professors refused to do. Am I an English Major, NO, Am I better equipped after studying with this Prof, YES. Ditto!
Darth Vader lives! He will back you on an intellectual ledge, cut off your hand and tell you "Whose your daddy!" Do the reading and do outside research so that you will know what you are talking about, because he does. Take a ride in the Mystery Machine and enjoy. Highly recommended!
AWESOME TEACHER WITH LUMINOUS IDEAS. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING TO THE "T".. YOU WILL NEVER LOOK AT A MOVIE THE SAME WAY AGAIN. LETS YOU REWRITE ESSAYS FOR A GOOD GRADE. ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS, AND WILL BE TAKING HIM FOR ENG 232.
Absolutely AMAZING!!!!! He is one of the best professors you will EVER have. Extremely laid back, very fun class, easy to understand. He breaks everything down. He is also very intelligent- almost taking a philosophy class. Lots of "Why?". Makes you open your mind and see the opposite side of an argument.I Recommend him to anyone and everyone!!!!!!
I liked him, he was helpful. He is blunt so beware for him to tell it like it is.
GREATTTTTT! The BOMB!!!! He keeps me encouraged and on my feet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... I look forward to his class every week.
wonderful professor. he is owesome very helpful. he wants his students to be successful. he also wants his students to be involved in the class.class was very easy as long as you did the work. remember to always bring your dictionary which is your best friend the entire semester.
Great professor, I recommend his class to anyone.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!! He always asks "why?", so don't sweat about it. It just means he wants you to think deeper.
I really liked MulHolland:)If it is your first semester in college this is the teacher to take! Although sometimes I thought he was a little cocky about himself and "I'm The MAN of the world" he does care about his students and you can tell he enjoys his job. I passed with an A. Everyday was pretty interesting.. I just wish he'd stopped asking WHY!
BEST INSTRUCTOR i've ever had!!! pushes you to learn more cares alot about his students. His class was very interesting and informative. You have to right essays about the topics we read about or discuss. Overall i recommend this class to anyone...
I cannot express how much he makes you think outside the box. In our honors class he expresses the use of all disciplines in a vast amount of information that we can use in our daily lives. If you slack though he wikll defintely recognize it, so I suggest you work hard for that A. He's one of the best, he teaches honors class for a reason.
This class was awesome to say the least. There are some professors that just get it and he does. He tries to expand your mind and if you are open to it, you will take a lot out of this class. Definitely not a light subject but prof. MulHolland knows what he is talking about. It was a privilege to take this professor.
You do a little work, you learn a lot.
He anit tight! Run away!!!!!!!
Amazing teacher. He is not like all the other teachers. Mr. MulHolland is so much fun. I was never bored in this class. You really will learn a lot if you take this class. We do activities and have convo that no other teachers does. You only have 5 essays and 2 quizes that THE CLASS MAKES UP! I RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO EVERYONE! :)
Prof. MulHolland is an AMAZING teacher! He doesn't stick to the conventional teaching methods, but you still learn A LOT! He teaches you to think and be resourceful on your own. Overall, it's an easy class with a great instructor! I highly recommend him for any English course!
Time passed quickly in this class thanks to the Professor. He's very realistic and honest and understands the students. Do the work, go to class, and you will pass.
Oh my god this is my favorite professor I've ever had the pleasure of having!!!! He is amazing. Such an unconventional way of going about thinking, but it's SOOOOOO much more effective than the other teachers that you can tell are just going thru the motions. He really REALLY cares about his students, and actually invests in out learning.
I agree with everyone that he is a very good teacher. But if you are not a talktive person he will make u one. He makes everyone talk at least one per class. Also he is very strict with grading papers if there is one little mistake on it he ill say naw blood and give it back and make u do it again until u get it rite.
I really like him! Even though sometimes he would make me think so much that i would hate it in the end i loved it.. Because it's for the better. I find myself thinking about things he said, or questions he asked. He's like a role model and one of his good qualities is that he really does carea and is interested<3 TAKE HIM.=]
Professor MulHolland is a very nice guy. His assignments are not very clear at times. The only thing I did not like about his class is he had us speak in front of the class a lot. Overall, his class was very interesting and fun. 5 essays, one quiz, traking notes, and another little assignment. I learned a lot from taking this professor and have
I'm having a love/hate relationship with this class. He's a good teacher, but the assignments are not very clear. The class is like eng/phil/psych all in one, which is good. We have to put a question on the board each time, which mostly gets picked apart and slammed by him. It seems like an ego thing. He can be funny, nice serious & rude all in one
Great Professor! Do not let any negative comments sway you, he is the best professor I have had to date. Just do not hope he wants to play the "Why?" game with you. You will lose. lol.
He is like Mint Chocolate, Rich and Refreshing every time... All i can say is that this Professor helped me learn how to THINK. You honestly probably do not know what you are missing until you take him, you know how they say there will be that ONE professor in college who will leave an ever lasting Impact on you ? Well, Professor MulHollad is him.
I took the class thinking it was an English class... DAMN WAS I WRONG... This is a PHILOSOPHY class is English clothing. Be ready to use your mind and be ready to THINK, OMG, THINK??? YEP. Do not take this class for the grade, take it because you want to learn about yourself! This is a don't miss class. If you miss it you are STUPID!
Mr. MulHolland is a great teacher, he makes you think and work hard. Do not misspell his name and do not play the Why game!!!
This professor can rub some the wrong way, but nothing said is meant to insult. Follow the rules of writing and his grading is rather generous. Try not to miss any classes, you will miss things that will affect your grade.
Great teacher and nice to look at :) He is def the type to pick on people but it's ok bcuz you can pick right back at him. Alwys be prepared 2 answr anythng. He is the type 2 do random things. 1day it will be lecture, next day class activity &the next watch a movie. He is also the type to make anything &i mean ANYTHING a learning experience.
He is a MUST TAKE instructor (I took him for 102G and 223) well worth it. The show just can not be beat with a stick. Speaking of sticks, I want to beat him more with each assignment, talk about hard... But you learn and that is why we are in school, RIGHT? His class is a blast, likely the best teacher I have ever had (but don't tell him).
I LOVVVE this professor! I look forward to his class each week! He actually makes you think and analyze most of the things in life. He is super hilarious and super cool. By far the best teacher I have ever taken! Makes me think about life a diff way! Def. a life impacting professor! Assignments are hard but in a good way, they make u think!
MulHolland is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes you think, he has an open mind, and everyone gets to talk in his class. He doesn't elaborate much on his assignments because he gives you the opportunity to think about what you're going to write. If you try to think "outside the box," you'll be fine.
Must be taken he is just amazing !
The best teacher so far at CSN. Be ready to think, be ready to ask questions, be ready to be yourself, be ready to have fun!!! And if you don't want to do all that, just be ready to look at him!!! He is soooooooooooo hot!!!
This teacher is super hilarious and awesome he is super understanding and basically lets you do whatever you want with some restrictions. Whatever classes he teaches i suggest because he can make it fun and creative out of just a film.
He is such a great professor! He is very outspoken & funny. Definitely makes one think outside the box and is always asking if we need help or have questions. I would surely take his class again!
Kind of out there.. You definitely need an open mind to take his class. Very interesting. About 5 writing assignments and very lax on due dates. I recommend taking this class! Fun and entertaining!!
This is a professor i will for sure remember on down the line later on in life. he's a very helpful teacher, and just wants to see you succeed in life. be ready to ask and answer and questions. he likes for you to be in engaged in class. not a very hard class to pass , if you can follow instructions.
GREAT Instructor! Really pushes you to think. He makes everyone speak in every class, nothing crazy he just wants to know what you think about the topic of the day. He definitely made me look at Mythology deeper. He's really lenient with due dates for papers. I plan on taking his other classes in the future.
On the first day of class, he showed me my place in the universe through film. Unforgettable.
Love him! Def need too take him gives so many chances to have a perfect paper!
Great instructor. Might be hard if your sensitive because he speaks his mind which involves a lot of cussing. Hes a great mind opener and highly recommend this guy. papers are extremely easy, you just have to get "deep" in your explanations
He's one of the best professors I have ever had! I wanted to rush through education but he made me take a second look and I'm very thankful to have taken his class and meet such a wonderful person who genuinely cares about his students! ????? sign PB&J
Professor MulHolland was the best instructor I have ever had. He taught me how to expand my cognitive bubble, and how to define structure in any argument I make. Class was interesting every time, and always left me with a good feeling when I left. Oh, did I mention how good looking he is? I would take another class of his even if it wasn't required
Great teacher!! You need to be present while in class, but it's worth it!! Take his classes!
You have to look things up yourself, don't ask him he will tell you to look it up. Feels like a high school class with his unreserved personality. Lectures are basically life lessons. Other classes at CSN have helped me more with writing than this class. You get good laughs but you put your education on the shelf.
If you like to go up to the whiteboard every 5 minutes like your in elementary this class is for you. Attendance is mandatory, he will embarrass you if you are late although he was 30 minutes late the first day of class. He makes you look everything up, explains nothing. He makes you re write things over and over. Not a class for a sensitive person
Professor MulHolland is one of the most passionate teachers in English. This class won't be easy, but then again you are in college now. Expect to do work, think critically and become mentally exhausted after class. However, once you understand his teaching methods and really think about what he's communicating, everything will click.
Everyone says he is great unless your sensitive. Well, he is funny and an interesting person. But HE IS NOT CLEAR, he calls people out when there really is NO RIGHT ANSWER. There is a lot more discussion than reading. The papers are easy, but THE LITERATURE CLASS IS MORE LIKE A PHILOSOPHY CLASS. Which sucks when you are expecting Lit.
I do not recommend this teacher. He does not teach, he just goes to class and talks about life and usually lets us out early because he has nothing to say. You need to teach yourself everything at home. His assignments and directions are always completely unclear. He always changes his mind anyway. Don't take him if you value your grade and time.
Very impactful, engaging teacher, may be intimidating to some because he speaks his mind, but that is not his goal.
Prof MulHolland is awesome! He is not for everyone, but if you really want to learn and expand your mind/thought process, his is the class to be in! There are no topics off limits, but in order to keep up, GO TO CLASS! You can eat in his classes too. Oh, and sit close and mingle!
I wish that I did not take this professor he cusses and swears way too much it is extremely annoying he is also rude and does not teach anything he just rambles on about random crap
Professor Mulholland will make you slide over if you are taking up dingy self-inflated space in the universe. He wears three primary archetypal masks wise man warrior and child within. A brilliant man. Sit in the front row. And do not be afraid to look him in the eye. Choose your words words words carefully. He does NOT do artificial fillers.
Professor MulHolland is a great professor. He helps you recognize your potential and has a great format for writing academic papers. I took for Eng 100 and 102 and plan to take him for my literature class. He treats everyone like an adult so it is expected that you act like one.
Classical Mythology with a twist, this class inspired the next stages of my career when the Professor recommended me to change my major. It's an insightful class that's more than what you expect. You learn more about yourself and are able to see the world in a new light. Interesting and not hard if you think creatively, MLA style papers are a MUST
I always looked forward to his classes not because it was easy but because it was interesting. He is a teacher that helps you think for yourself and not many people understand that. He does his job. His job is to teach you to think critically. He gets you very involved in class. Very inspirational to me. He won't just hand you an A. work for it
I took him for Feminine Literature, we only had to write 4 essays and an in class essay for the final. Also, he has you do a quick presentation. But he's a really good teacher and makes you view things differently. He's all about communication, so you get to know everyone by the end of the semester, and you're pretty much comfortable to present.
Greatest class I have ever taken! I enjoyed every lecture, although I would leave the class even more confused. DO NOT MISS CLASS! This class completely changed my life and the way I perceive situations. BE OPEN MINDED. Thank you professor!! ONLY A FEW ESSAYS. Mostly opinion based as long as you can back it up. WOULD LOVE TO TAKE ANOTHER CLASS!
Very interesting teacher. He is like a sweet and sour gummy bear. Yes, it puts your brain to work and I love that. Be prepare to revise your paper 50 times before you turn it in, though at grading.
Professor Mulholland is a great teacher, his essays are not hard, but you have to do a lot of research, which takes time. Funny guy. He will help expand the way you think, he is different fro a lot of other teachers. If you put in the work and time you will pass.
If you are religious do not take him, he says God is a myth. Be prepared to ask him questions and answer his questions. He will not answer your questions straight forward. For one assignment, I asked him three times what we needed to do because I did not understand it. He told me to ask someone next me, which I had already done.
He gives his opinions in every lecture and is not very courteous of students personal beliefs. He was offensive, swore a lot, and didn't really teach us much. We watched 4 movies, had 5 papers, and a presentation. Warning: if you want to learn to write good papers, he won't be the one to teach you. He just expects it. No rewrites unless you got a C
Here's the deal. It's not a tough class. It's a collection of films and papers. It does get repetitive. It was a lot of the same thing every week, and by the end of the semester I no longer had motivation for this class. He's entertaining, but isn't very clear with what he wants. If you need a lot of structure, I wouldn't take this class.
Just participate and do the assignments!
Very intimidating at first because he's not the typical prof. He will def put you on spot so always get ready to answer! But you'll get used to it. Funny prof and very straightforward. Just follow his style on writing essays you'll be good. 5 essays and one of those is in class for final and 2 5-min presentations. That easy!
He's not like any typical English teacher I've had. His lectures are amazing, he gives good criticism, and he forces you to think for yourself and support your opinions. Yes, he's hard and you most definitely have to work for your grade, but if you want to improve your writing and arguments, take him. Work and take his advice, and you will get an A
My second time taking his class at CSN and it was a delight. Best English prof. I had and was helpful in the subject and in life. His teaching approach is rare but effective. The essays might seem hard at first but he helps you more than the average prof. 4 essays , one final essay in class, and 2 show and tell presentations. Great Teacher
I took Professor Mulholland a couple of years ago. The class is like a Philosophy class, but I wasn't. I am not fond of the Socratic Method as a way of teaching, to me it seems as if it isn't really teaching. At the time I thought it was a okay-ish class, but now as I myself am an educator, realize it lacked structure and content.
Professor Mulholland is AMAZING. Mulholland makes his students "dig deeper," this helped me create and write with clarity and understanding the material. This class was very inspirational and I have fallen in love with books again. Love this class so much I am taking another one next semester.
Lyrics as Literature: Great instructor. Enjoying class. I feel that Professor MulHolland goes to the River to pray because some ghost of his has his heart and soul.
Uses a style of teaching called method of elenchus. Very confrontational style of teaching. Feedback giving is not constructive. Be prepared to put the thesis statement as the second sentence.
If you are forced to take this instructor/time realize that this instructor battles himself not you. Confrontational stance as noted below is evident. Hold your ground. Give your point of view. He will think his opinion is right and better. Give him the last word but decide when you want to give it to him. Delivery style: dictatorial.
Professor Mulholland taught with an enlightening agenda, to spark new perceptions and concepts in his students. Great Teacher, I would take him again. There are papers to write but on movies and some on other literature from two books. Final was based on one book.
Take him if you want an easy A but don't take him if you can't deal with a headache. He makes you really think critically and support what you are saying however, he can be offensive. And if you talk to him about anything, he makes you feel more like a dumbass because he thinks his opinion is always better.
All MulHolland wants is for you to succeed, so be sure to ask questions. His classes can be full length lecture classes or 10 minutes, it all depends on you. READ THE BOOKS! Only 4 papers (two persuasive and two informative with the same topic for on of each (i.e. "Why you're in college" persuasive & informative), mini "project", and Blue Book exam
Get ready to be put on the spot... A LOT... but don't worry he does it to everyone. Get ready to write... but his grading isn't too rough. Show up to class, read the required reading, and be prepared to discuss some interesting topics in class. DO NOT TAKE IF OFFENDED EASILY!!!
Prof. Mulholland will not back down from challenging your ideas to make you a better writer and to dig deeper. He has a free flow way of teaching; no lesson plans or set assignments except to read certain chapters of your assigned book. Makes you re-write your essay as many times for a better final grade. Be prepared to be put on the spot!
I know some people are out off by him, by I found him to be funny. He's a pretty decent guy, and you'll do fine if you attend class and pay attention to the movies he shows.
He is pretentious and kinda funny! Be sure you put your critical thinking hat on before coming into class... He is very strict on MLA formatting but that is something that should be learnt before coming to 102. He just wants you to care a lil'. Be sure you come to class the last few weeks!
Mr. MulHolland is a thoughtful teacher, ready to demolish any argument presented to him, forcing you to 'dig deeper' as any superficial debate will leave you looking incompetent. He is fair, giving you ample time to finish and rewrite your essays. Be prepared to have you and your motives questioned; have a concrete argument for everything.
He's a hilarious teacher and I would gladly take him again but not for credit. I found the class very challenging for someone who likes structure and felt that most of the assignments were opinion based but he was looking for a certain opinion. He does allow rewrites though. This class is more than just mythology, be ready to expand your mind.
This professor is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. He assigns opinion based papers and grades them based off whether or not he agrees with you. His instructions are unclear, and he makes this class way harder than it should be. This class was not a typical English class. I would not recommend this professor.
He is a great professor who really does make you work. He picks on everyone so be ready to ask and answer questions at all times. C
This professor really changed the way I view critical thinking and analysis, and his view on life is very different to what I'm used to. If you're willing to give him a chance, taking his class is a unique experience you won't get from any other professor. He's not the easiest, but he's not the hardest. Be ready to think very critically.
I really enjoyed muholland's class. It was a great and challenging experience. He is very generous and cares a lot about his students. He's very big on the Socratic method of teaching - aka questioning everything. But it really teaches you to critically think and grow in your writing. It was very inspirational and I learned so much! Very thankful
Did not have any real lessons just 40 minute lectures. Loves to point out your mistakes does not like to teach you how to fix them.
There was no clear grading criteria, professor was rather condescending and, I was often embarrassed and mocked when asking questions. Grades on papers were given with no explanation or corrections just "Revise". Rather exhausting class because the wasn't structure or organization. Overall wasn't a great learning environment, the irony.
His class is very enjoyable. He is a bit eccentric and it takes a bit to get used to him, but for most part he is a very good teacher. He does not help you on essays. You have to guess what he wants to hear and hope you're right. But, in class there is never a dull moment. I truly looked forward to going to class.
Unorthodox and engaging. Participation was core to the class. He has a Socratic approach. I looked forward to the class to hear his thoughts, as well as my classmates. I didn't like the material as much as the format of the class. There was no homework and 4 short (2-4 page) essays. The catch is, he doesn't hand out A's. Know your MLA!
I hate him, save all of your papers cause he might lose them.
Professor MulHolland is great. He cares for his students success unlike Professor Kramer ( don't take her ever...)
I loved every single class of his. MulHolland isn't just the most funny, friendly, and caring teacher I've ever met, he's the most funny, friendly, and caring PERSON I've ever met. He wants nothing but for all his students to get an A in his class. He just teaches in a way in which he criticizes no one. He respects all his students. Inspirational.
Very odd professor. Gives 4 papers and one blue book. The paper topics are very broad and he gives no clear instructions. Sometimes he will take the rough draft and grade that as the final and vise versa. Your grades depend mostly on what mood he is in. Forces students to ask him questions each class but refuses to answer if he doesn't like it
I took his summer class got average grade, would say focus on thesis, he is a easy teacher but hes don't expect easy A I learned how to critically think in this class, learned about drugs, and the world of drugs. I appreciate this thank you, I don't suggest you take this if u can't deal with critical thinking. He's a caring teacher, but be on time.
This professor is caring he makes sure that if you need help he will help you. He cares about time and start class right away. Focus on your thesis and make sure prompt connects to your papers because he emphasizes that a lot in class. He is funny and I like the fact to learn how drugs effects people in this psychedelic literature summer class. :)
I loved Prof. MulHolland. He has a very intricate way of teaching. 5 essays, and 2 books. You will not get an easy A in this class, he makes you work for it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly recommend going to as much classes as you can or make some friends in class so you know what to expect on the next. Be prepared to ask questions!
Took this class over the summer. It was one assignment after another. He is not your average professor. He really makes you think and have a different perspective on life. He might be a hard pill to swallow at first but eventually grows on you. I really enjoyed his class. If I could I would take it again. Yet, this class is not for everyone.
I took Professor Mulholland's literature of love class, his teaching style is unorthodox. He helps you become a critical thinker by teaching you how to question topics on a deeper level. His class discussions are unique and interesting, and his writing assignments can be hard if you cannot grasp the concepts from the class discussions.
This professor is very strict on thesis if your thesis isnt good he will make you redo it until he likes it. He comes off as mean but he really isnt. You learn a lot from his class and he isnt scared to say what hes thinking. If you want an A probably dont take him but if you want to learn something id recommend him.
Alright, for the most part this dude is alright. If you want to learn something, this dude is it. However, if you want to get an A, you'll really have to work for it. He also really loves asking you and your classmates questions about what you've learned. His class isn't for the faint of heart, or easily intimidated. We also tend to watch movies.
Professor MulHolland is on a mission to teach his students to critically think, ask good questions, get to the point, and is successful in doing so. I took 101 with him also and each class was very interactive. Although a bit rough around the edges, it is clear he sincerely wants for his students success.
I took his English 102 class and decided he was easy and friendly enough for another semester. He's way better this time around. Monster lit. gives him the ability to be more creative in what he talks about and he is very opinionated. He swears a lot and is not subtle in the way he thinks, but he's very smart and open-minded.
Professor Mulholland is a unique individual, I really enjoyed our class discussions. He does not say that he takes attendance, but I am sure, he notes who shows up. You have few assignments, but he is a tough grader. We had four essays for this class.
Prof. Mulholland is great, his classes are spent watching movies and recognizing the Hero's journey in ea. movie as well and the Archetypes. 4 essays for hm, 1 essay in class and 1 short presentation. His class shows you how to perceive life more than just the superficial, I won't ever watch movies the same, something in you changes after his class
Best professor I have had hands down, I have taken him for two semesters in a row now (102 and 223 monsters) and he is just really amazing! Class is mainly discussion based and if you just listen to his critiques on your essays its easy to pass :-) his classes are truly great so I highly suggest taking him for any english course
Professor Mulholland is one of those professors that makes you participate for a good purpose is to hear everyone's ideas/views and opinions. Also he gets everyone interested in the class by expanding our horizons so we learn new stuff every class which is awesome. I was thinking that english 223 was going to be hard but it was easy
As a person he's really amazing and can make the whole class laugh. As a teacher however, he's strange. There's only 4 papers and a blue book so there isn't much homework throughout the year but the papers are very difficult and broad. He doesn't expect it to be perfect the first time but it's incredibly difficult to get clear feedback.
Literally watched movies EVERY class of the semester. Not clear lectures on archetypes. I had to study and find resources outside of class to understand his class. 4 essays, 1 blue book exam. Not clear feedback. He seems all over the place. He is funny and entertaining. inspirational. When it comes to the material, it was difficult to understand.
Not clear on feedbacks. So I do the same mistake over and over again. First hour of the class was usually spent watching films, and then he discussed. He is not very clear what he wants on essay because he wants your creativity. I went through sleepless nights whenever he posts an essay. But it wont be hard if you love reading and can write easily
Professor Mullholand is just awesome. Yes his class requires lots of reading and writing papers but nothing that is above a college level class. His main goal is to make his students expand their minds and start thinking. He makes you question things and ask questions and of course he knows a stupid question when he hears one and doesn' like them.
The 4-week online class consists of 4 essays, a timed blue book essay, and a short show and tell assignment. My best advice is to include as many stages and archetypes in each essay as you can. He really looks for a strong thesis so make sure to follow his essay structure. The movies are fun to watch too.
I'm only speaking for online classes, but this is probably one of the worst professors that I've ever had concerning feedback and clarity. Professor Mulholland does not respond to any student emails, he takes millennia to grade essays, and he does not keep students updated on anything. The only upside to this class is that the syllabus is easy.
Don't understand why his rating is so high. He makes you participate every class and does not give clear feedback whatsoever. He will make you define words like "good" just to be a jerk. Took him when COVID took over and he was even worse online.
If you plan on taking Mulholland for an online class, don't. He doesn't give good feedback at all, doesn't answer student emails, doesn't give notes, and takes forever to grade. He allows revisions but doesn't specify what to revise. His instructions are unclear. His class was disappointing, especially after seeing the great reviews.
In the end, I really enjoyed the readings and the films, but not the lack of useful information or structure from last minute announcements or rubric. If I could, I would have told myself to look into another professor before I could get my hopes up about this one. Sorry, prof. Too much confusion and frustration for such a cool topic.
Ok, I saw the reviews and thought "ill take this class" but let me warn you... this class is very confusing. When I first enrolled and looked at canvas his syllabus was outdated. I messaged him and he was very aggressive. He types IN ALL CAPS and makes frequent grammar mistakes.. which is very concerning. He is very vague and last minute DONT TAKE!
I took this class during covid times so maybe he was more lenient towards us. Definitely not hard at all! I hate English and writing but I still manage to get a decent B. I had 3 actual essays and 3 drafted 2 page essay for those 3 actual essay. I also had a 4th essay but it was super easy. Definitely need the book and read it!!!
I' a good student and I've had a lot of professors. This is BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. What a waste of time and money! He ate his lunch and put on a movie EVERY single class. His directions and expectations for essays were shockingly unclear and vague. He is not interested in helping you learn or succeed.
Do not take his class. His syllabus is way outdated. Does not give clear instructions. Also he takes forever to reply to emails. He has assignment posted from a year ago.
This professor will be clear and certain on what he want from you in this class. Be prepare for interaction, ask lots question and build argument in his lectures.. He's flexible with assignment times and this class text books are super interesting.. Easy grader , he will consider your hard work.
I did not enjoy taking this class and a lot of classmates felt the same. Halfway through the semester our class went from 20 students to 3. This was because his syllabus is outdated and his lectures provided no real guidance or help. When he assigned essay 2, he gave the wrong essay topic, and week before it was due finally put the correct one up.
reading a lot of mixed reviews but honestly, he's not terrible. If you are looking for a simple easy class, this is it. He makes you ask questions each class which can literally be about anything not just homework. You get like 3-4 assignments the whole semester. He gives pretty good feedback. DONT rely on his syllabus though it is pretty outdated.
good advice; i came for english and learned about philosophy and love
Great teacher, but takes some getting used to. The first week or two may have you feeling like you'll want to drop the class, but if you stick with the class you'll find it's very rewarding. One thing to make sure of is that you need to be prepared to ask questions. Assignments are pretty easy and he gives you plenty of time to rewrite if needed.
I took literature on Love and honestly, he was my fav professor out of all of my classes. He does take some time getting used to the course and the questions he asks but after you get the hang of it this class is easy B). Just read the textbook (120 pages) and ur good. He gives lots of time for papers too.
Mulholland is an honest person, and uses the Socratic method for teaching. Its overwhelming at first, but stick with him!! You get 3 essays his whole course, with plenty of time and late submissions. This professor is honestly rooting for you, and wants to see you succeed. Can't wait to take his 102 class!
If I could go back and never take this class, I would. We were graded over just 4 essays and one in-person lecture. Professor Mulholland would often go on small rants that were usually homophobic or transphobic in nature, which was really upsetting. We also would only write essays about films, never actual novels or texts. Would give a 0/5.
Take this class if you actually want to learn something. I had classmates in my class who has taken him over again for fun because of how much this class will make you rethink everything you have ever known. He is an amazing teacher. Best one ive had so far here at college of southern Nevada. The knowledge i have learned will be with me forever!
He strives for a "stress free" class. Assignments are only 4 essays with 1 presentation about mythology. He does not care about late assignments. He allows resubmissions on essays for a better grade. Two books required but are cheap. We mainly do discussions every class and watch films relating to mythology. No more than 6 classes can be missed.
Only assigned 3 essays, an exam, and a 10 point assignment for entire semester. Can definitely be rough around the edges at first and you might hate him a little until you figure him out but once you do he's so funny and a good professor and I really enjoyed the class
Mr. Mulholland was honestly great. Yes, he makes you think outside the box but he sends you to places beyond the imaginable. He does not hand out A's but he does let you revise papers and he does not care much about missing assignments as long as you get them in. I am getting ready to take his 102 class so I'm excited about a second go-round.
Really interesting way of teaching
love this guy so much
Anthony Mulholland is a very "laid back" professor that doesn't really extend it to the class's feeling. As a student I've been severely stressed multiple times and gives confusing and mixed announcements on canvas. He has not once helped the students with questions, while having many questions for the students as that's his "pedagogy".
An interesting way of teaching and makes you think about perspectives, a lot of people might hate him because he's real and blunt but that's how you learn in real life. Lectures will definitely make you speak up, if you're not open enough and refuse to acknowledge an idea/opinion, don't take this. I've learned a lot from this guy, 10/10
WEIRDEST WAY OF TEACHING WALLAHI. overall hes great. you watch a lot of movies and do an essay on each of them. i kinda understand some of the bad ratings, he does say a lot of shi but hes also very honest and real to talk to. his assignments have confusing explanations, go to class and ask him about them. good life lessons, be ready for bluntness
His style of teaching is just him speaking. There is no notes but we did have a textbook that we rarely referred to. We watched a lot of movies and wrote 3 essays. He played the devils advocate a lot and he is kind of intimidating but dont be afraid to ask questions. Chill person but very unique teacher.
Honestly his class wasn't that hard. You have to write 4 papers, the last one being the final exam. The reason I'm rating him a 1 is because there was no communication from him whatsoever. I would explain but I'm about to reach the character limit. I'm surprised his rating is this high. Def misleading students looking for a good and honest prof
Professor gave no instructions on the first essay. Marked the first assignment with the word "Thesis" and mentioned needing support while giving no other information. Stretched every class into a one-hour discussion on a five-minute Richard P. Feynman interview video and ended with answering inane questions he tasked us with writing on the board.
Definitely the most unique professor I've had. The lectures are always just him talking but they are very interactive and he makes an effort to make everyone participate which I enjoyed very much. Only complaint I have is that his feedback on papers isn't very helpful. He's a joy to be around (in moderation) and offers lots of valuable life lessons
Loved Professor Mulholland teaching style. Did not know how much a structured writing would feel like creative writing. I am taking his class for my other classses as well. I highly recommend this class.
Favorite English professor. Everything was clearly communicated and he made an A so easy to receive! Taking him again for my other eng classes
Professor Mulholland is amazing! Every class was insightful and rewarding in it's own way. 100% recommend
Professor Mulholland has a unique teaching style that may take some adjusting, but is quite rewarding if you engage with it. The lectures are interactive, and unstuckstudy can be helpful for study prep.
Truly a great professor if you gel with his teaching style. Has some great life insights and insights into the learning process itself. While his rubric for how he wants you to write an essay is strictish, it was that rigidness that pushed me to think about English different from how I have ever in the past. I would recommend him to any student.
Very philosophical professor, not for everyone, assignments are easy, easy A if you do the work and 3 essays
Great in person for lectures on thesis, definition and essay structure. Flexible with grading and allows you to resubmit for more points, doesn't give very helpful feedback though. There are only a few assignments, that timed essay is a killer if you're not good at thinking on the spot (me).
Easy A. 3 essays, 1 blue book assignment, and 1 "something else" presentation you just say what you learned from the class. Gives good lectures, is super nice, attendance is only mandatory for the first 2 classes, lets you redo the essays for higher grade. I highly recommend!
Literally the easiest class Ive ever taken. Every class is watching movies & the essays are watching and analyzing movies. The class is 3 essays, 1 blue book, and 1 short presentation. Essays are only 2-3 pages. He lets us re-submit our essays for a better grade. I barely even showed up for this class and it didn't matter. Please take his class.
He seems intimidating but i ended up really enjoying this class. He will challenge your way of thinking. Great prof, he cares. Put in effort and it'll be fine.
