He is very funny and easy to get along with. He will always answer your questions to the best of his ability. His tests are usually 50 questions and he gives you the main points that will be covered. Millions of pages to read... He's cool, you just have to study!!
Good teacher. The class is easy because tests are multiple choice and some common sense. Sometimes he threw some things on tests that we weren't supposed to know, but he would make it up with a gargantuan curve and/or extra credit.
This guy is really cool, you can tell he wants his students to get good grades. The tests are hard but the curves make up for it. Read the material and pay attention in class, and you're going to get a good grade. He also cracks jokes and is a fun guy to be around...def. my favorite professor.
Huge curves on the tests that are hard. He expects everyone to get good grades on his classes, and he's extremely funny, joking around with students. Overall a good professor to work with.
so i took his class because my friends were taking it. i never wanted to take phil.. but it wasn't so bad.. hes a really good teacher.. and hes not that bad to look at.. he is so nice! and even though his tests were soooooo hard!!!! he did give huge curves and he gave extra credit.. would i take the class again? no way.. but it was "fun" while it l
Great teacher, curves like crazy, and helps if u ask. alot of reading, but he also give a lot of notes. I had him at 8 am, so he always threw in jokes or off topic conversationg to keep us awake.
Awesome teacher! If you're willing to settle for a B in the class and save yourself a lot of money and studying, dont buy any of the books he tells you to buy! He gives you a big list of all the main points of each philosopher, all you have to do is study those main points and listen to his very interesting lectures and youll be straight with a B
This guy is very hot, therefore it is really hard to concentrate in his class, however it he pretty straight forward, study his main points, and his notes! He assigns a lot of reading for the tests but he curves them. At 8 am he is always up for jokes, as so he doesn't have to lecture the entire time about philosophy.. so take him!
oh so hot :) makes you want to go to class, gives main points for each philosopher & test and curves tests like f-ing crazy & lets you drop your worst grade...too bad he's married :0
Hard class. nice teahcer
He is hot! There is nothing wrong with philosophy with an exceptionally hot teacher. You have to do the readings though but he gives major curves on the test. He is really helpful and funny. Try to pay attention though, because his lectures are very helpful when it comes to passing the tests!
Took this guy over the summer... he is the most unprofessional instructor you may ever have.. we heard about his vehicles he bought, and returned, his pool business, his vacation, and all of the reasons he was late cancelled classes without notice, didn't email our grades, didn't notify the bookstore andhe even showed up without keys to the room.
This was a hard class. You can study hard and still get a F on the exam. He curves it but it's sucks to get a C after the curve with lots of studying. He's really nice but he makes the material harder than it has to be, you can get a C in this class without trying, but it's hard to get an A with trying. Wouldn't take him again. Not that hot either.
i don't know why everyone says he is hot. he isn't. he's always late to class, tests are impossible (but curved), readings are long and indecipherable. talks about the most ridiculous things.
Nattania is a quirky and unorganized guy like mentioned before, but he is a good teacher. Tests are 50/50 lecture/text, he curves sometimes over 20pts. Rarely stays on point but he's interesting to listen to in lecture. Final is 80% recycled test questions. Keep your tests and pay attention in class. Easy B if you listen, A if you do the readings.
This teacher is the worst. You spend your whole time writing papers and each one is 8 to 12 pages. DO NOT TAKE. No feedback from him and he DOES NOT answere your e-mails. I have never written so much in all my years in school.
if you are a good test taker and get the main idea of what he is trying to say, take this class. not boring at all. tests can be hairy, but curve is very good. explains each philosopher well.
I took his summer course; it went very fast but as long as you do the reading and take notes you will get a B easy. He's entertaining so you don't get bored in his class.
Worst class I have ever taken. He shows up late, leaves earlier or cancels class. Doesn't cover much in lecture but test are extremely hard. Average scores in the 50's and 60's. Even with curve, good grade is not easy.
Sucks. He seems like he doesnt want to be there. Leaves early. We had to write over 10 pages of essays for both the mid-term and final. And then there was multi-choice. on top of that. The final paper we had to write was 10-12 pages long. I have never wrote so much in my life. Grades took forever to receive but he does grade pretty easy.
RIDICULOUS amount of work...I think he thinks this class is MASTER level...never had so much writing in all my life for one class
this dude is CRAZY!!!! he gives tons of notes, tons of reading, tests are extremely difficult because he grades on a curve. If you get above a 70 on the tests you're lucky. He isn't a bad guy...classes are usually entertaining. he cancels sometimes and lets out early alot. he doesn't take attendence, but if you don't show up, your going to be lost
He gives 4 test which are all multiple choice. The final is cumulative, with all previous test questions. Test are VERY hard and you must read and take alot of notes in his class. The test are VERY hard but he curves it. Drops the lowest test grade. Seems like he gives u a final grade based on what he thinks u should get.
Horrible... We had to buy 5 textbooks for his class, we only used the main one. Great when in class, but when it comes to tests you feel side swiped. He will give you the option for extra credit, but the extra credit may have nothing to do with what you are studying. Covers too many philosphers in to short of a time span...
The way he puts out the information is easy to relate to. Go to class, review the main points list, and READ!!! The reading can be boring but it is a must to do well. This professor changed the way I look at things in life.
Professor Nattania is an excellent teacher. The material is somewhat difficult and you have to be ready to read a lot. I entered this class knowing almost nothing about Philosophy and now have a very strong base. He is great teacher if you are ready to work.
Anthony was a great professor. You need to do your reading, but class was laid-back and fun, and always interesting.
I think that Mr. Nattania was a fun teacher. Overall, if I had to do it again I would definately read.!!! Um, a lot of times he did get off topic but he still talked about philosophy. He sometimes did not reply to email but he was a pretty decent teacher.
Natannia is a really awesome teacher. The class itself is hard. In order to do well lots of reading is required. Tests are hard and cover alot but he outlines them for you. Great test curves tho. I came into this class knowing absolutely nothing about philosophy! yes, it was the worst decision of my life to take philosophy 150 its tough

Professor Nattania is a really great teacher. Lectures were never boring. They were actually very fun while still sticking to topic. I would definitely have read more, but he curves gives a nice curve on test. I would highly recommend taking his class
Read the book. He tends to get off topic so if you don't read you probably won't do very well on the tests. He curves the tests a lot, though, and is willing to work with you but don't expect him to check his email.
I received D's on all of his tests but with the curves I ended with high B's and thats without studying. The readings are extremely hard. I suggest sticking to the main points and do the extra credit he offers and you'll get an A. He's super funny and nice. If you try to cheat, he'll know SO DONT. Highly recommended.
Overall, the class went well. I took it in the Summer and he doesn't use the entire class time. About 3/4. His test are difficult and the reading is tough to keep up with, but he give extra credit and curves in the end.
DO NOT take this teacher if you are a Distance Learner. Professor Nattania does not communicate with students through email. He also does not return assignments or post grades on BB. If you want to take this class and actually get something out of it, take it with someone else. It's just not worth the stress.
I started off trying to read to study for the test and failed didn't read and god 2 points higher lets just say he curves the test so i got b's. I studied the most for the final but didn't touch the book he gives you the notes which is all you need.
DO NOT TAKE! While he does curve his exams, they are largely UNFAIR. He asked questions about things he presented in class only MINUTES before the test and asked for EXACT figures from what he presented! How is that fair? He does NOT answer emails at all and is a liar as he claims to post grades on blackboard. He is intelligent, but extremely lazy!
Ill be honest..this guy is funny, sometimes nice. But he is a monster test creator. I worked myself to death on the tests and still ended up with 60's. Ive never had a grade lower than a C in the course, but I think this might be my first.
His class was fun! He made all the test take home, there were about 50 questions, all from the notes he types for you, movies, or your book. there's four miniature essay questions, and always some type of extra credit on the test. The whole semester there's a total of 4 test and one of them you can throw away. READ though!!!
Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!! We use to have take home test that were kind of hard but could be completed with the book n outline. One day he posted a test for us the day before it was do when he said it would be posted like 3 days before. I hate this class and no one really shows up. Only good thing is that he drops the lowest test grade.Don't do it.
Mr. Nattania was a little difficult. He is a very nice guy, but his classes are very hard. The most important thing is to READ READ READ! I love to read, and this class is challenging if the book is not read. The tests are difficult, so a lot of preparation is needed. However, he is a good teacher, hes funny, and makes tbe class interesting.
We had take home tests at first, he takes forever to grade. Forget emailing him he doesnt respond. If you do not read you will not pass, because classes are useless. Not only is he sarcastic, he makes you question your faith and causes controversy.
He is a good teacher of a difficult subject. He causes controversy to get the class discussing topics! Only 2-3 participated in my class! If you at least TRY to understand the material he will help you get a decent grade. U must read text. Curves are generous & gives extra credit. Participate in class & try on your tests & u should do fine.
PHIl 303, Excellent intructor gives you two take home test, and 1 research paper. Turn in all of that you will receive an A. He gives you enough time to finish the exams and Research paper. He is not boring, and makes the class interesting. Thanks for Not using power point to teach the class.
He wasn't really bad. He is slow to respond to email, but he lets you know from the get go he is. You have to call his home or cell. He is really helpful when you do that. The tests were easy if you read and used page tabs. He gives great reviews before the test for you to complete. Got an A and I have no interest in Philosophy, I just studied.
I took a World Religion course with him in the fall and he is a GREAT professor, however, the material was very difficult. Our class average was about mid 50s to 60s. Though he didn't give extra credit, he curved the MESS out of those exams resulting in me getting a C+ in the class! I really liked him. Hard class. READ!!
Great professor for such a hard class, without reading his handouts and book readings you will fail. everyone usually fails the tests and he adds a curve every time. if you actually study and get a C on the test its an A with the curve. Love him.
Great professor. Really funny. YOu just have to make sure you read the notes he gives you. He also curves tests a lot but you still need to know the material!
World Religions is a super tough subject, but Prof. Nattania is really good in teaching the subject. He's usually a phone call away, and he makes the class interesting with his jokes. READ THE READINGS, THOUGH! Especially the notes he makes for you. He curves alot on exams, of which you will have 4 & a final, but don't rely on that. READ.
FANTASTIC teacher. One of the best in the school. He takes difficult ideas that goes against everything his students have been taught their entire lives and makes it understandable. His class was beyond enjoyable. Take it if you have the chance.
5 tests. Lowest is dropped. 5th one is the final. He let us count one of our tests as double instead of taking all 5. They are all curved a whole lot. Ended up with a B- and I had mono and missed a test. Just read the reviews he gives you. You'll do fine.
Really hard test. Everyone would do horrible on the test, but the curve would bring your 40% to a 70% most of the time. The readings are extremly long, but if you dont read them than you are screwed. He is a good teacher, class is kinnda pointless, just read
Really hard test. Everyone would do horrible on the test, but the curve would bring your 40% to a 70% most of the time. The readings are extremly long, but if you dont read them than you are screwed. He is a good teacher, class is kinnda pointless, just read
such a chill professor, always comes to class in a funny attitude and cracks jokes to keep you interested. tests are very difficult but his curves are 20-30 points. i didnt read anything except for a few notes and i have gotten nothing below a C.
He was an awesome professor! Philosophy in general is pretty boring, but he made the best of it. Exams were hard, but he curves them SO much that it's impossible to fail his class. I pretty much only showed up for tests and I passed with a high B. His final is cumulative but takes questions straight from previous exams... there is also extra credit
My favorite class this semester and one of my favorite professors at ODU. People who are easily offended with religious affairs should probably stay away but personally I loved it :) Decided to go with a philosophy minor. No hw and barely any outside class work, gives extra credit. Downside is a LOT of info and tests can be tricky..and 5 tests only
Super cool and interesting prof. Tests are hard but everyone does horrible so the curve is large. I think the vast majority of people end up with B's. Final is directly from previous tests. Lowest test is dropped. Recommended.
The test are at best, average difficulty but the curve is normally enough to bump you half a letter at least. He doesn't care much about attendance but he does learn your name, even without you knowing, so he will notice if youre not there.
The test are hard. You have to study really hard in order to do well. But on the bright side he is willing to help so go to his office hours if necessary.
Makes in class sessions very interesting. Attendance not required but who doesn't want to sit in his class. Homework assignments come straight from the readings. Test questions come straight from the homework. A lot of studying involved but I say take him.
The Best teacher by far!!!
The class itself is extremely difficult. He tries his best to help, but wasn't very helpful. Great guy, but tests are everything.
He's a good professor but everything is all up to you. Lots of studying but the in-class assignments are all you need to study for exams. The work load is not heavy but when there is work to be done, it can be time consuming
He is an amazing professor. Works very well with you on grades. He is thorough its just the material that is difficult.
Professor Nattania is a great professor and helps you with whatever you need. There is a lot of reading and lengthy assignments due but if you get them done this class is an easy A. He doesn't mind cell phones unless you take advantage of this. I would definitely recommend this professor
Attendance not mandatory. He learns your name quickly, which surprised me. Material is difficult, and attending class definitely helps. It's a critical thinking class, he asks a lot of questions even if class doesn't give a response. Semi-funny, examples are relatable & interesting. I never bought the required textbook, but got a B. Googled answers
His tests are hard but he drops your lowest test grade and gives extra credit. You need to work hard but you will earn valuable knowledge of world religions. PS hot personality
Gives you a fat textbook that i barely used. in class assignment questions can be found online, and i used flash cards to study. the class is very interesting and makes you think, but there was almost no use of the books unless you really wanted to read a TON
Really cares about his students. Very clear with his expectations. His tests are to test your knowledge, not trick you. He's also helpful during tests if you get confused and he makes himself available outside of class. If he taught more classes, I'd take him again.
You won't pass without interest in the topic, be open minded.
Good professor, tests were very hard. Hes always there if you have questions to ask but the material is definitely difficult. Only take if you're seriously interested in the subject.
Textbook is $100, plus additional books. I barely used the book, mainly studied the study guides (which he gives the answers to) for the test. His tests are super hard because they cover so much material that is hard to grasp. But he provides extra credit for every test. His lectures are entertaining but don't help with the tests. At. All.
He was very knowledgeable about the material, lectures are super interesting, and he allowed class participation. Tests are hard, BUT he does give PLENTY of easy extra credit if you do bad on a test. I would definitely want choose him as a professor again.
This class was definitely bittersweet in my opinion. Pros are that the lectures and how he explains the lectures are very interesting. He does answer any questions you have and is willing to help at anytime. Cons are his tests are really tough. Expect to do a lot of reading. Also some of HIS answers were wrong so keep close attention to the tests.
I love prof tony. He is honestly there for you. No matter what type of day he is having he always brings his perky personality. The material is very interesting but ALOT to take in. The good thing about this professor is he understands and will save your grade if you make effort. I have gained a lot philosophical perspective & would recommend.
I went into this class knowing NOTHING about philosophy, but Nattania is a great professor! The material is HARD, but he is easy to listen to and explains everything very well. The tests are hard, but he LITERALLY goes over every single question in his lectures, readings, and homework so if you want to pass go to class and do your work.
Prof Nattania knows his stuff but his teaching style forces you to learn the material on your own. Lectures are engaging and entertaining, but does not give you all the information on the test. Assigns hundreds of review questions that are no where in the readings or text he gives you. Google will help you get through this course.
He gives you plenty of time to work on study questions and to prepare for tests. However, his lectures hardly prepare you for tests, which forces you to learn A LOT of material on your own. The class is more of a religious history than philosophy class. When you ask him questions he tends to give vague circular answers and he's often condescending.
He is very friendly. However, his lectures are pointless, they don't teach you much. It's basically a learn on your own class. He only has 4 test/exam and they are very vague. His study guides help a bit, but not so much.
Professor Nattania is a great person all around, except his teaching methods are a bit tedious. He assigns A LOT of readings and videos so be prepared. His tests are tough and tricky so know your stuff. The homework he assigns is confusing and difficult to find, but the homework is basically what is on the test. It was my most difficult class.
For a Gen Ed, I was surprised how tough he made his class. There are only 5 tests and study questions and the lowest test is dropped. He gives A LOT of extra credit, but if he didn't most people would fail because his test are based on his textbook/study questions. I wish I would have taken another teacher/equivalent class even though i got an A.
Prof Nattania is super nice and very open to hearing the input of his students. This class was definitely a challenge though, mostly bc of the reading load. However, there are plenty of online resources to help with your study guides. We were only graded on our test scores and study guides, there were no mandatory projects nor papers.
Very friendly and dynamic. Philosophy involves a lot of reading and writing and this course was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding. Lectures were less instructional but more thought provoking and set the context for weekly papers. The weak point is feedback; I didn't get one paper returned but only received the scores and long afterwards.
He is so funny he makes it fun to learn
Nattania doesn't put much on Blackboard because he wants you to show up for class. The classes are discussion based and very casual. Make sure to buy his textbook and read. He gives article reviews for an easy grade if you read. The final exam was a 10-20 page paper SINGLE SPACED on ten philosophers, so it is helpful to read WAY ahead of time.
nattania is an amazing professor. He is a character to figure out, but he really makes you think and it makes you actually wonder. I would highly recommend you take him.
I didn't learn a single thing in this class. He goes on and on about current events as "examples," but I have no idea what they were examples of. He doesn't connect back to the actual content of the course. The textbook (that he compiled, by the way) is costly and you will need it for the heavy reading. Stay far away from his class.
I highly recommend taking his course. There is only 5 assignments so not a lot of room to mess up. The book is expensive but you only need it for the midterm and two essays. Lectures are interesting if you participate. Weekly article reviews. I skip 2 out of 3 classes and I'm doing fine in the class(C+ with 2 assignments left).
This class was probably the worst I have taken. I did not have a single page of notes the entire semester, the textbook was nothing but articles written in old English that was very confusing to read, the class discussions were just opinion based so it was hard to get notes, and I struggled with the assignments because I really was on my own
Show up, participate in the class discussions that I found interesting, do all 5 graded assignments which includes the participation grade, be there to take the very easy quizzes and you will pass. Easy A or B.
He's nice as a person but that's not what his website is about. His teaching style is not helpful if you are a visual learner (like having notes to refer to). I attended almost every class and each time I felt like I learned nothing at all. I had to rely on my own resources to pass this class and it was horrible. Also, the book is mad expensive.
Basically the whole class is in depth essay/discussion posts. You do anywhere from 3-5 weekly and they are LONG. He is a TOUGH grader and gives NO feedback. He is terrible at communicating since it was a online class. I heard he was amazing at TCC, so it may be his restrictions at ODU.
Research Papers (2 papers at 4-5 pages)25%, Discussion Posts (25 Posts 3-6 paragraphs each) +( 50 responses2 paragraphs each)25% Mid-Term25% Final (10-20 Pages)25% This class is a lot of work, trust me. This is the most writing I ever done in life. It got to a point where I have to pick my battles. Textbook is mandatory also. Be aware!
Last year here at ODU and this class has given me more work than anything else. It's hard to sound like I am exaggerating but I'm not. 2-3 posts (3-6 par each) w/ 2 response 2 papers (4-5 pg) Mid term (50 MC) w/ final. Final is 10 essay questions 1-2 single spaced pages each. No feedback on anything. Nice guy, too much work for an INTRO course
This professor is the worst one I've ever taken. First time I've actually had to write a review about a teacher. Like he asks for too much work for a intro course smh. His final that he assigned got me feeling like I'm in the sunken place. I just cant handle him anymore. I actually had to fight for the grade that I got in the class.
For an intro class, this class was way to much. We had to do 3-5 posts a week that was three paragraphs long plus two responses that totaled out to four paragraphs. On top of that, he was not very communicative and did not really grade in a timely manner. His final was ten sections which equaled out to 10 essays 10-20 pages long.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. HE GAVE US A 10 PAGE SINGLE SPACED PAPER AS OUR FINAL. WE HAD 48 HOURS TO DO IT.. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT? I STAYED UP FOR 2 DAYS STRAIGHT AND GOT A D WHICH MADE ME FAIL THE CLASS. THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE SEMESTER WE DID EASY BUSY WORK THEN AT THE LAST MINUTE YOU DECIDE TO GIVE US THAT? AND IT WASNT IN THE SYLLABUS, HORRIBLE!
An insane amount of work for an intro class. You basically need to prepare to read 500 pg a week & write at least 4-5 pages of understanding not including responses to classmates. The final... was in the module the whole time (the very last one in the resources sec) single spaced understanding of all material, 10 questions, 1-2 pg for each
DO NOT TAKE HIM. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with an teacher. He gives you so many papers its ridiculous with so little time frame to get them done. The final was an 10 page paper single spaced!! on 10 questions and i feel that it was unnecessary especially during finals. just be ready to do lots of papers.
Professor Nattania is laid back maybe to an extreme. I do agree with most of the posts, his posts are insane but it does teach you about the philosophers. As far as him giving or posting any lectures himself-not at all. He did not respond back to any of the emails I sent him throughout the semester. The final IS a 10 page single spaced paper.
This class is a ton of reading. Lots of writing. Mid term is easy but the final, as others have said, was long and tough. Gives good grades for postings if you follow the rules and make good efforts to understand the material. It's hard work, lots of writing. I loved the class and material but felt like there was no professor, no feedback.
Don't take this class in you plan on taking Philosophy only once. With only 5 exams that he puts in blackboard, it is easy to fail this class. The study guides that he puts online are 15-20 pages long, and are impossible to understand.
Mr. Nattania is a nice, funny guy. I would love to be his friend. I rather not have been his student as his class is only 5 exams and 15 points of study questions. The book cost $120 . You will need to use it to pass. Great guy but his class was pretty hard and covered a lot of material (each study guide was 10 pages long).
this dude needs to listen to music more often
FIRST OF ALL, I attended this class everyday ready to learn and take notes, however Prof. Nattania happened to get off topic every class. He was confused when people used the internet for exams, negating the fact he didn't not lecture. His book costs 120 dollars in which the book cannot be sold to the university library. Don't recommend.
Okay so I loved this class. Lol, however you do need a book thats $120 but I didnt have the book and still passed with a great grade. He works with you if the whole class participate in the discussion. You do need to read at least some if you wish to pass the test .
Very off topic in the lectures. You do not have to go to class at all to pass, but have a friend in class to tell you if he assigns anything in-class. He will do that sometimes and not send out a notification and you have no idea anything is due. Readings are very confusing and he isn't very helpful when asking questions. No direst answers given.
Nattania is a great person, but, I did not like the course. It is lecture HEAVY. All the exams are take-home including the final, HOWEVER, they are HARD and LONG. This course is hard to understand and I don't believe I learned a lot from it. But, he is nice and an easy professor to talk to. He does offer a good amount of in-class extra credit.
Hes a great person.. very cool and nice and will make the class laugh BUT as a professor hes not all that great. He gives all these papers and then wants you to watch 2 hour videos to type a paper. He isnt clear in his directions and he makes jokes more than he actually teaches the class. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go
First of all, he has his own textbook that is $170 minimum. Second, Theres 7 papers in the semester and 3 exams and also a final. The exams are at least 40 multiple choice along with at least 6 essay (5 paragraphs each). He doesnt explain what he wants either so that makes lectures useless and assignments difficult. 10/10 would NOT take again.
He has revamped the course and is offering weekly writing in place of notes and tests. Read the content he gives you. Go to class and pay attention to his explanation of the reading. Then, write the one page paper (super simple if you listen and pay attention) and your set up for success!
I took the 8-week course so my feedback is based on the intensity of the condensed material. He did a wonderful job of going above and beyond to provide various forms of information in different learning styles (videos, audio, readings, etc). Thought-provoking and I can definitely say that I learned from him and the course material.
strongly dislike this prof. he doesn't teach ANYTHING! expects you to read random material and watch LONG videos outside of class, then he has *pointless* discussions during class time. he runs over class time every single class and is disrespectful toward students sharing their opinions. would not take this professor ever again.
Took the class back in Spring of 2023. Amazing conversationalist who's extremely passionate for what he does. There's a lot of writing assignments that require watching videos and reading outside of class but they're little page long pieces that take less then an hour. Just have good time management and enjoy the class discussions!
The class has a lot of writing assignments, but they're manageable if you stay on top of the readings and engage during discussions. unstuck ai was super helpful for efficient prep. Just make sure to attend class and take notes - the professor can sometimes get sidetracked, but their passion makes the content worthwhile.
