I enjoyed Olah's class very much. Before entering I was scared to death, because I hate english. But his choice of readings were very interesting to me. I love the material. I must say I still hate writing, but I did enjoy his class. I look forward to reading another by an author he introduced.

I had prof Olah two semesters ago and I think his class was interesting. At first he scared you with the amount of stuffs that you have to do in his class, but as you get to know him, he's a really nice guy.

Do NOT be scared by what he says the first day of class, he just wants to reduce the number of students in his class. Although his grading for the essays is pretty hard he lets you rewrite them as much as you want. A LOT of in-class essays so go to class. Lectures are not very relevant to english.

A lot of in class essays but not very difficult at all. He asks a lot of questions which is good because it keeps you thinking. Conferences are very helpful so try to attend when you get your time slot.

If you're an "A" student, don't be surprised if he gives you a "C-" on the first essay, but you get to revise, and he'll give you an "A" on the revision. Great guy, random, but funny tangents, and he ditched the sencond essay after a trip to Kauai, which was awesome! 380 sucks, but he makes it worth it.

He's a really helpful professor. He grades a little tough on the first paper but you will learn a lot. Theres not a lot of work in his class he just like to discuss controversial topics!

Prof. Olah is an amazing professor. He's a very nice and funny guy and loves talking about life. He is there to help in not only English but all your other classes. You can bring him a prompt for your poli sci class and he'll tell you how to write it. Only three presentation papers and two major essays. I sure recommend taking his class.

I definitely recommend taking Prof. Olah for Eng 100, he turns what should be a boring basic english class into a complete life lesson. Insightful & helpful. Only 4 papers, 2 2-3 page ones, a 4 page midterm and 6 page final all on different movies. TAKE HIM !

You should definitely take Prof. Olah. He is a great teacher, very enthusiastic about his teaching, loves to see you do good. He is always at his office during office hours so you can go ask questions. Professor Olah is seriously one of the best, if not the best english professors at CSULB.He's such a great teacher, not only do you learn an amazingly easy writing process but you also learn about life. easy course, he basically talks about life all class. not always so clear on assignments and due dates. but he really cares about his students, and by showing that you're interested - going to class, participating, seeing him at his office hours- you'll do well. he rly enjoys getting to know students, so do that, write decently, and u'll do fine

I, fortunately, got an A on my mid-term essay. On other papers, I've gotten A's, B's, and a few C's. I do not understand his grading scale. He does not require a textbook, only novels.

A+ Absolute favorite class of my first semester. He's a really difficult professer to understand at times, but just show up to class, and do what he asks for on the essays, and you're ready to go! Olah is very loose with the topics you write about, but the techniques he teaches you in class and interest level of your essay are what really count.

He's alright. He has Tourette's and cusses a lot in class, but he's really entertaining. He's a really hard grader though, so be warned that you can write a paper you thought was awesome and get a C+ on it. Going to his office hours definitely helps though... when he shows up.

Professor Olah is a very straightforward guy and he is decently opinionated. You like him or you don't. If you don't like class discussions, don't take this dude. I, however, enjoyed his class thoroughly. He didn't really give much feedback or expectations for the writing towards the end, which kind of threw me off, but his class wasn't impossible.

Very good professor. Although he can be a tough grader, he really helps students evolve as writers. Loved this class. I learned more about writing in his class than in any other class I've taken. There is no limit to how many revisions you can turn in. We had 3 essays and a few 1 page single spaced reports. Very hard class but worth it in the end.

Tests are easy just study he tells you what will be on it. The essays are harder, for the most part he gives everyone C's & D's on the first paper. But he helps you, gives you good feedback, & lets you re-write that essay as many times as you want. Attendance is mandatory but overall i learned so much and he is AWESOME. Totally recommend him.

Olah is very specific when it comes to his papers. In order to get a good grade, attend his office hours and make yourself known to him. He's always willing to help and truly wants everyone to pass his class. Just put in effort and you will pass.

The class seemed rather easy to me. So long as you visit his office hours and talk to him about your essays, you're almost guaranteed at least a B. Be sure to take notes during the readings and prepare for exams, they're SUPER easy but if you dont do so well on the essays, they can save your grade so the higher our average, the better.

Not super clear on what he wants in the essays. We wrote two essays and the first one you can rewrite as many times as you want. Didn't learn anything i new in the class. He goes off on tangents ALOT. We spent multiple classes talking about disneyland or his wife. He's really nice though and we help you if you want.

He will give you a D on the first draft of your midterm paper, but he will allow you to rewrite it an infinite number of times, and he will coach you to the A, but you have to work for it. He is extremely realistic and has a very interesting perspective on life. Very lay back. He didn't mind that I did chem homework during his lectures. Take him!

If you want to better your writing substantially, take him. In a span of a few months, my writing technique became more refined, not just because of what we learned in our textbooks but more so because of his lectures. Advanced Comp. is good for those who have vision and great ideas but need help with structure, which is anyone and everyone.

Olah is a gem. Even though he doesn't talk about the material much, his rants are pretty entertaining. There is minimal reading and homework. I am glad I chose Professor Olah's Eng102 class for critical thinking. Before this class, I did not know how to write or develop a cohesive essay, but he helped me hone my writing skills to become a more proficient writer. There are 4 essays in total and a final. The 3rd and 4th essay are weighed the heaviest so make sure to work hard on those!

His English composition is the most difficult classes I've ever taken. Yet, it's been the most rewarding. He has so much to offer. Expect difficult grading; effort and time is crucial. Only take it if you're willing to accept below an A. Your best 'A' paper will probably be a 'C' at first but don't lose hope and definitely visit his office hours.

Olah is the sweetest man on this planet. He talks ALOT but his topics are very interesting. Although he does not really ever talk about the subject he really takes his time to understand you and overall communicates so much with the students. Professor Olah was great! Make sure you read the book and participate. He does grade the essays tough but GO TO THE WRITING CENTRE! Getting an A was not easy but this was 1 way I managed to get an A without doing rewrites. Despite the class being pretty late in the day, it was a lot more bearable than expected, because his lectures were quite entertaining. He does grade quite harshly on essays though, but you are allowed to revise them and turn them in again at the end of the semester. Overall, pretty funny and chill guy.

Anthony Olah is a great professor! Yes, he may say a few controversial or problematic things every now and then, but he's an old soul and he's not really hurting anyone, it's just for jokes and laughs. No homework in this class, just read! There's 3 vocab tests (40 questions, but super super easy), and 3 essays to write. Chill professor!!!

BEST PROF! he inspired me to change majors and always gave really good and encouraging feedback. his classes were always super interesting and he always felt welcoming and open. i truly enjoyed every day i spent in his class. the books he had us read were also very interesting, i finished both of them purely for enjoyment after the semester ended

Often doesn't post the official assignment for essays until a few days before its due. Sometimes doesn't follow the class calendar provided. Talks a lot but is engaging with students. Cares about students and wants them to come to class. Be prepared to buy his required book and not being able to use your devices during class.

He is a yapper but the good and funny kind. Sometimes he went on rants about how much he loves his wife and daughter, but honestly I loved it. He is a tough grader on the essays, two of which I got C's on because he felt they were "just fine". He definitely wants you to think wayy outside the box when writing your essays to really critically think.

I honestly thought his class would be challenging based on what I have heard, but in was not that bad. Just be prepared to read and just try your best on his essays and if you don't do well he lets you revise them.

I don't really know how to feel about him. On one hand, he is very nice and always includes everyone in his lectures. On the other hand, he never uses Canvas and doesn't post when homework is due. I have missed quite a few assignments because I did not look at the course material (partially my fault). Ai is heavily talked about, prepare for that.

Professor Olah is a really nice person and an Okay teacher. I don't understand the political comments on his reviews, I do not see that from him. However, he does not really teach you how to write and his grading is not very helpful for improvement. I would take him again simply for him not for what he is teaching. He can make inappropriate jokes.

I had to take his class for credit and it was a breeze. He yaps a lot so it passes time a lot and we barely had work I don't even remember how much since it was so little. He wants you to buy his book since it's "required" but I passed without it. All the assignments and quizzes were easy. Def recommend if you need to take him just for credits.
