one, if not THE, best professors, i give him credit for my choice of being a poli ci major...prepare to be on time, do not ask stupid questions, and laugh a lot with his witty comments,nice clear accent...take pol sci 7 never regret it...some tests might be a little hard but just prepare and read the chapters, just what a college student should do

Great professor! He is very supportive and so much fun! His lectures are very informative and very witty. Be prepared and ask questions. Multiple choice quizes can be a little tough, but follow his study guide and prepare early! The essay is quite easy as long as you understand the topics and able to write them down in your own words.
Easily the best teacher I've ever had at LAVC.I give him credit for my decision to major in Poli Sci.His classes aren't easy for someone with no background in the subject,but he will help you if you go to him.I can't reccomend him highly enough.
This is what you hope for when picking classes. He is a true teacher who has a strong passion about what he is teaching. You have to focus and take notes in this class, otherwise it will be tricky. He cares about his students and is willing to make time to discuss with you. He is very straight forward when it comes to tests and grading. I loved it!
Ridiculously brilliant and even more important, is able to effectively communicate the material in a way that is understandable yet not insulting to one's intelligence. A right challenge but completely fair. And quite a dish, might I add (wink wink, nudge nudge)!
The most amazing prof. If you are a slacker who doesnt come to class, dont bother, but if you are someone who values a great Prof. this is your man. He is honest, and straight forward with an obvious passion for what he teaches. He loves to talk with you and anwser questions. Studying is key. Take good notes. The best I have had in college by far!
I wish every prof was as interesting, funny, witty and intellectual in lecturing as Dr. O’Regan! His class actually parallels that of a 4 yr school, so if you can’t run with the big dogs I suggest opting for a different course. PS Don't let him scare you off he might display a strict and authoritative regimen but like the tin man he has a big heart
What a smart man! And cute too (right ladies!!?). Makes politics interesting without a bias. He is strict but not unreasonably so. Great accent to listen to. I really like this teacher, he challenges your mind! Way to go O'Regan! Keep it up!!
Don't take this class
Nice Man and he loves what he teaches but the tests are rigged and essays are hard. Studied like crazy, my attendance 100%. Don't bother with the quizes waste of time. Only do this class if you've done gov & pol sci classes before. Messed my gpa up, tought me to study less instead of more. started class extremly enthused left extremly dissapointed!
Loved this class! He is a wonderful instructor who makes the subject relavent and interesting. He is not a pushover or an "easy A". You have to do the reading and pay attention to his lectures. There is a supplemantal study group that is helpful as well. His lectures are never boring and even funny at times. He's kinda cute, too. And lovely accent!
Easily the best teacher on campus. Frankly I'm surprised he teaches at Valley. He knows his material backward and forward. His lectures are enjoyable as he tends to slip in jokes where he can while still delivering the information. He was inspirational to me after having suffered through many horrible Poli. Sci. classes. A must for anyone at Valley
They don't get any better than Dr O'Regan. Lets you know exactly what is expected and teaches clearly, so you know the subject well by semester's end. Made a dry subject entertaining. Can't say enough good things about him. He makes many other professors look lazy.

By far THE BEST TEACHER EVER!! Very clear on his lectures...tests are fair. Very humorous and keeps the class interesting.
I'm a science major. I took this class because I had to. I hated it, he is pretty boring and it was really hard for me to understand everything. I guess he loves to make fun of people in the class because he sure was disrespectful.
You will definately learn from him. Take a lot of notes and do well on the test because he doesn't offer extra credit!
The best professor in the Poli Sci Department. Not only is he a brilliant instructor, but he is also laugh out loud hilarious. He once said "I don't think I would have the magic stick if I was shot nine times". You learn a lot and because he makes the class interesting; he will also sprinkle a few jokes in here and there.
Briliant, Ph.D; European mentality and way of looking at things - pure uncensored look at things. What more could u ask for?!?! If you are of average inteligence will have problems. Have to study hard to get an "A". u have too understand the core of the material not just general memorization in order to have a chance for an "A". Best professor!!
Professor O'Regan's an incredible teacher and a must for any poli sci major. He teaches above and beyond the book, using outside sources that added a lot to the class. I'm a poli sci major and learned a great deal more than simple book facts. Awesome guy, easily approachable, great teacher, and huge English soccer fan; loved his class.
Amazing teacher. Especially for social science majors, he has ana amazing pool of knowledge and knows his subject backwards and forwards. Tough grader and won't take any wankiness from students. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
This political science professor can barely hide his bias for the Right. He doesn’t go over tests with the whole class so that you can learn from your mistakes. He has favorite students and is quite obvious about that. Unlike every other professor I have had in college life, he does not seem to like or encourage class discussion about the topic
Dr. O'Regan is one of the finest teachers I had ever had. He truly loves to teach and truly loves the topic he teaches. He doesn't baby you so if you rely on test revues or helpful handouts don’t take him. He is strictly lecture and tests. Pay close attention to his lectures they are very helpful. Amazing teacher take advantage of a real professor.

As a politically active adult , the class was farily boring. Nothing against O'Regan - there's not much you can do with material one already knows. However, he does deomstrate a pretty heavy bias against Republicans, but that might be because of his audience. Overall, I enjoyed it, but could've been a much more dynamic class. He's nice, though
He has been my favorite professor thus far, I think. Provides entertaining lectures and an appropriate class environment; He will not tolerate idiots with cellphones, etc. Three tests, which are half scantron and half essay. He seems more concerned with decent writing skills than fact memorization. If you like him, you might like Phares, Hist. 12.

An excellent teacher. Loves to hear himself talk. At times says some insensetive comments, but is extremely knoweledgable in political science. You have to listen and read the book, but it's worth it.... I totally recommend him!
He is a funny Professior to have. He makes funny comments and keeps the class interested into his lecture. Has a great knowledge in Political Science. He has a crazy way of test his students, part multiple choice and part essay. He cares most about the essay. It's unbelievable.
He is hot ,fun, and helpful. I havent seen hime in three years but I hope he is doing great. I love his accent, it is cool.

You absolutely must take notes in this class, as he is very passionate about his lectures and uses a high percentage of his lecture material on the tests. Poli Sci has always been a hard subject for me, so I struggled a bit, even though I am generally an A student. He has an awesome sense of humor, but he won't take any bullpoop, so don't even try.
he is organized w/ an outline every class, you just need to take notes read a lil bit and youd be fine. he's funny but puts you on the spot if you miss class or fall asleep.truthfully i wasnt interested in politics before i took his class, but now i am! he's a great professor.
Lectures can be entertaining. If your phone goes off or if you show up late, be prepared for him to punk you. He has no problems calling you out in front of the class. So long as you go and pay attention, you don't even really need to take notes.
Great teacher! It's great to listen to a teacher who knows his stuff! He tends to digress a bit but his tangents are very informative. His outlines before tests are very helpful and is willing to read your essay prior to the test. GO TO CLASS or you'll be behind, turn off cell phones! GREAT TEACHER!

The best instructor at Valley. Really knows his stuff, is very helpful, lectures are extremely informative. Pay attention, show up, and take notes and there is no reason you can't get an A. He also promptly responds to emails, if you need help. Grades very fairly.

Fantastic teacher - I loved this class! O'Reagan is insightful and witty with a really dry "English" sense of humor. He made the subject matter fabulously entertaining and made me look with new fascination on the founding of this country and the current inter-workings of its government. Fantascit lectures! You will walk away knowing so much about the history of politics and understand exactly what is happening in today's world, and why. Show up, take notes, be disciplined, and you will get an A. More importantly, learn about U.S.
Great professor! Its not a hard class, but if you need an help, he is there. He gives you the essay question that will be on the test 2 weeks before so you can study it and will help you through email too. No reason to fail his class. I learned a lot.
Energetic, entertaining, knowledgable within his field, a good teacher who reserves the right to be a prick (he's british) so don't get him started on a tangent & only take this class if you're prepared to be a student. A student needs to take notes, read the text, and be critical in order to succeed. He expects you exhibit what you've learned.
The hardest teacher ever!
He's a great teacher. I didnt need poli sci but i took the class because i sat in one of his class one tim. He is helpful and knowledgable. YOU NEED TO COME TO CLASS!!! His lectures are 80% of the test. I liked his grading method, even though I felt he has a built in prejudice. He doens't like undiscipled people and he a brit. accent!!!
He is a funny teacher, young and hip, but is prejudice and rude. His tests require studying for 3 hours a day for 2 weeks, really. If you have this availability, take him. He will put you on the spot light if he catches you on your phone and say horrible and mean things. Take someone else.
Teaches just like a UC System. 3 Grades determine your class grade. Midterms, Essay, and Finals. Don't score low on any of them or you'll fail the class. He doesn't give Ds only Fails. Scoring 100% on the all your grades won't earn you an A you must suck up or talk a lot. Theres rarely any class participation because he likes to talk and talk alone
Hard teacher. His test are hard, i took him for the summer and every test you had to do an essay. Hes nice but complicated to understand. f you get along with him he wont pick on you. I dont recommend you take him...unless you like the political science subject.
Worse professor I have ever had. Those of you who need to take poli science, take it with other instructors. I won't recommend any person to take his class. Annoying and doesn't even listens to students opinions.
If you are willing to learn you will get an A. Pay attention to his lectures for multiple choice Q and review his handouts.. get more details from the book for your essays.He is very interesting and hilarious which makes up for this hard course. I totally recommend this prof. for this subject best instructor for it! this is a UC type class.
Funny, elitist Brit teaching BORING topic. I hated this class. It's easy, BUT I got a B because I did poorly on one test. Gives NO extra credit, and there is so little to be graded on, if you slip up there is NO WAY for your grade to recover.
Excellent professor, inspiring and brilliant. If you want to hear the same leftist rhetoric other professors spew don't take him. If you the ask the right questions he will go out of is way to help you. Not an easy professor but there's no reason to do poorly.
Great professor with very clear, organized lectures that present simple, understandable material. Sit in the front, take notes on everything.The book is helpful but he writes his tests. Those of you who can't even write with proper grammar should not state your opinions on this professor. Highly recommended for anyone who can read and write English

Typical for a polisci professor. Full of himself, preaching to the class with a biased mentality on how western views are above all else. He's a great! you only have to take 3 exams which are 25 m/c and a essay( he gives you the topics for the essay 2 weeks before the test)you have to go to class in order to get a good grade and take notes too. you will enjoy his class, he knows what hes talking about. He's funny and and british.
Inspiring and very helpful. I loved his class. I learned so much because I showed up, paid attention and did what I was supposed to as a student. His class and lectures allowed me the opportunity to come away with new ideas and new perspectives, not childish resentment because I feel I'm entitled to something I didn't earn.
Professor O'Regan, despite what some say, offers plenty of help in assignments (barely any) and in understanding the conetxt of the class. I highly suggest this guy, he may be a little rough around the edges but its for your classes own good. Just beware-dont wander in late or not show up for a few days, if you do prepare urself for some humilation

What a great professor! He teaches his material extremely well. He makes class interesting with his wit and understanding of politics. Attend class or be dropped! This class is no cake-walk so study & take notes. Grade depends on exam but if you study you should be able to pull off A's and B's easily. Read the book too. It helps.
Funny. He doesn't like it if your late or he will pick on you & no cell phones during class. He knows his stuff. He is British. Take detailed notes in his class because it will come out on the test & terminology from book. Multiple choice test & essay. Shows movie clips in class. Entertaining class. Study! you have to read the chapters.
Came in with little to no interest in political science and left with a desire to locate more classes that he teaches on this subject. If you do what you have to do, which is sit in your seat and dont be rude by fidgeting with your phone, then you will acquire a LOT of knowledge that will be make you extremely interested in politics. Guarantee you!
I didn't like politics to begin with, but this dude made the class super interesting and fun. You just have to show up and read the book, sit back and enjoy the lectures, it's easy to get an A. And he's really, really funny. He does good impressions too. LOL

I took this class through V-Cap (eAccelerated program) and I was in trouble!! It was soooo hard,..not only for me but for other students as-well. It?s a lot of work and you have to read every single chapter, twice of you can. Overall, he is a very knowledgeable and funny professor. I would advise anyone to take him but in a regular semester.
Mr O'Regan is a very good speaker, he's engaging and keeps you interested in the subject even though Poli. Sci. isn't your thing. His assigned essays and short essays on the test at first seem unpleasant, but after the fact you feel proud of yourself for pulling through those challenges. His humor, energy, blue eyes and accent kept me stimulated!
Very difficult class to pass. Grades very hard. His exams are difficult so you better study your head off and take notes on lectures. If I knew better, I would have never taken this teacher.
Really intelligent professor. Got a C in the class but learned a lot. Loved to listen to lectures about today's world rather than the past, although it was interesting to see the past resemble the present. Very helpful, just talk to him. His lectures are very interesting and informative. He uses examples form current events to teach. Must be a good writer for his class, must pay attention, take notes, and read the book.
I liked him. Worked HARD in his class, learned A LOT. He uses a lot of current events to supplement his lectures, and is extremeley knowledgable. A warning though - Don't be late to class, don't be chatting amoung yourself and don't bring your cell out in class - you will be humiliated by him!
Hes hott, and very intelligent. Makes the topic very interesting, and gets you to like political science. Not an easy class, you have to do work, but i definitely rec him. He's there to help you, although he can be a bit intimidating, hes actually a nice guy. DONT use your cell, he will make you regret it!
British all the way. Lots of good information. Take notes on everything! Tests are 25 multiple choice and 1 essay question. Gives you study guide with 3 essay topics to choose from. Test only has 2 to choose from, so you end up preparing for 2 essays when you only have to do 1. Very complex, but he knows his stuff.

This professor is extremely knowledegable about the subject and gives crystal clear notes. His tests are very straight forward. Barely studied, just went over my notes briefly before the test all in all hardly put in any effort and got a B+. Love him!
This professor can be a nightmare if you do not understand something and cannot write perfect essays. Really interesting class, but ruined by his attitude. I passed but many people I know did not and he makes students feel stupid for asking questions.

Ur grades is based soley on 3 tests. If ur a bad test-taker, u probably wouldn't pass this class like I didn't. He thinks he's funny but he never made me laugh. Every time i'm in his class i just wanna leave. He does make political science a very boring subject. I recommend another teacher very highly.
Stay AWAY!! dose not give A's at all. I studied very hard and am a 3.9 gpa student and i did bad on his tests. He makes his own tests up which cover no main ideas in the chapters. Online flash cards and test questions DO NOT HELP. I went through 100's of them scoring 100% and got C. He throws the book at you with no study guide and dosnt teach.
Dr. O'Regan is a brilliant professor who cares deeply about political science. His knowledge and excitement of the subject inspired me to major in political science. Go to class, take notes, and read the material. Hard work, but you will get what you put into it. I would absolutely recommend him. I wish all teachers were as interesting as he is.
Dr. O'Reagan is the best political science professor I've ever had...and I've had many! He gives crystal clear notes, and his tests are based on the notes, he doesn't try to trick you or throw in questions about things he's never discussed. I got a B+ and I never bought the book or studied, just take good notes in class and you'll do well.
Horrible teacher,class very hard, very picky on how he gades his essays. I studied both book n prepared 4 the essays n i still dind't pass. knows the subject really well. Take someone else. Test r scantron and 5 paragraph essays. find someone easier who cares about his students.

This professor is TOUGH! Don't assume that the people writing these reviews are lazy bums who don't do any work and that you're an exception.Trust me to even get by the 1st of 3 tests requires more reading than you'll do in another entire class. Don't risk your GPA for this class, like many others you will REGRET IT and stay far away.
Horrible teahcer.I read both books prepared for the essays n scantron staying up late 2 study, n i still didn't pass. Take someone else u have 2 be able to write word for word of what he says in class in the essays in order to pass. This class will ruin ur GPA.

O'Regan is hard, in fact he's probably the toughest professor I've had. That's because he is teaching a real college class. Read the textbook(s), attend lecture, take notes and you will pass. If you aren't a serious student, take someone else. But if you are up for a challenge, go with O!

Intense, well learned, highly intelligent instructor. He knows a lot about the subject and expects you to keep up as is the deal when you enroll in class. If you dont like hard work, being challenged or critical thinking dont take him. However if you like a challenge and politics this is the class for you.
If you're a political science major, then I highly advise taking Anthony's class. His caliber of teaching is what you should expect when attending a UC(I attended CAL). If you can't handle his pressure, then you probably won't be able to get those grades that you desperately seek. I felt fully prepared when transferring and definitely recommend him

He is kinda hard. He does give you a study guide but it wasnt anything that was related to the subject. The hardest thing is that your grade is based on 3 tests so if you fail one your pretty much done. I had to dropped after I failed the first test. Also their is one essay question that you have to answer. I wouldnt recomend him if you hate essays
That silver fox is an amaaaazing professor. Not by any means an easy class however, but extremely engaging with his lectures, superb speaker. If that's not enough, those baby blues will keep your attention :)
A fantastic professor. He writes on the board an outline of his lecture. His class is tough (entire grade depends upon three exams), but it's not difficult to pass. Show up, take notes and read. I'm lazy and I got a B! Tip: Show up on time and don't do anything stupid, like text or talk. He will call you out and tell you to leave.

This professor is really hard. Doesn't do well with questions unless he believes you're at his level. He gives out 3 really really really hard tests throughout the semester and that's what your grade is based on. Half of the test is answering quetions and the other half you have to write a long essay in response to one of his main questions. He knows what he's talking about but he doesn't know how to teach it.

Professor O'Regan is one of the best professors at Valley College. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and understand. Also, he makes the class interesting by making pop culture references and small jokes. I highly recommend that you take O' if you want to know what a real college level course is like.

Professor O'Regan is truly an erudite instructor. His class is by no means a breeze. You have to read the assigned books and jot down competent notes. I managed to get an A by doing the aforementioned tasks and having a little common sense. If your passion is poli sci and you're a dedicated student, an A or B should be within your grasp with him.
Easily, hands DOWN, the BEST professor I have ever had. So intelligent and witty, I loved it. He explained everything in so much detail, it's really unfortunate there are so many lazy students who take the class and whine about having to actually have to STUDY for it. GASP. Three tests, 25 questions, with an in class essay for each. That's it.
He knows his stuff & breaks down notes so even if u didn't have the book, but came to the class u could fill in what you remember & do good on the exams. Just go to class and take good notes and you should be able to pass with a B atleast. Tests are multiple choice and he gives you 3 essay questions for the tests and 2 will be on the test and you only need to do 1. Don't add him whatsoever. Professor is knowledgeable about the subject but expects you to knw subject in detail,like an anatomy class..His liberal views are annoying and He grades harshly.If you want to avoid frustration,take another teacher,if you can't, take his online class.But, he's basically the same.
He's a really good teacher! He's really fun to listen to and makes everything easy to understand! But I can't help feeling a little ashamed that an Englishman knows more about my country than I do... Also, he HATES tardiness! I reccomend having him later in the day so that you won't be late.
Knowledgeable about the subject but veers much too often into irrelevancy. All he does in his lectures is go off onto tangents & steadily lose sight of the original topics of discussion for his class. You will not learn anything. Going to his class is like going to talk to an old friend about politics. He offers his views and that's pretty much it.
Deadlines are not adjustable and nor should they be. Save the wine and complaints for dinner as there is no BS tolerated or should there be. Regardless of my political views this is a professor who knows his subject material unlike many others and is excellent in what he does. It is a shame other professors do not operate at the same level.

O'Regan's Pol Sci 7 (WRLD AFFAIRS) class is one of the hardest classes I've taken at Valley College. There was so much material to remember and his lectures were not as frequent or clear as they were in his other classes. O'Regan' is an excellent professor, but don't take him unless you have enough time to read and review the material.
His "lectures" are not the type of lectures that most of you are used to. They are based primarily on his own opinions, which makes them useless when it comes time for the tests. When he says his class is taught at a "UC-level," he's merely blowing smoke up your butt. I do not recommend taking him. I got an A, but I was very miserable in the class.
Difficult but rewarding class. Lectures adequately cover the material in the textbook, but the book is necessary for exams. The class is indeed structured like a UC class, contrary to what the ignorant claim. Either 3 exams or 2 exams and a paper. No homework, just lecture. It's up to you to keep up with the reading. Slackers should stay away.
Outstanding educator, but you will have to earn the A. Quite difficult, requiring regular attendance, reading, and notes. SLACKERS STAY AWAY. You will learn a lot and be thoroughly engrossed in the material. Very little interaction in the classroom, but his charisma will make the hours fly by. Best professor you can take for any Political Science class.This class is not for lazy people, its for people who want to learn. Be on time, read the book, study your nots and you will at least get a B. His charisma and accent will make the class a thousand times better. I found the course very interesting. He was funny at times and easy to understand. If you take good notes, write down what he repeats multiple times and study that...you should be fine.
One of the best professor I ever had. If you are looking for a class to take a nap or text your friends during, then you should look for a different class. His grading is bit hard and can sink your gpa to the rock bottom if you don't put your 100%. So if there is any possibility, avoid him or else get ready to study hard inorder to survive.
Simply an outstanding professor, beyond a doubt one of Valley's best. Charismatic and extremely helpful when you seek it. He grades on 3 tests alone and that's all you have to worry about. Oh sure his tests can be tedious to prepare for but really, other than the later Poli sci 7 tests there not that hard, you just need to put in the effort.
There are some people who understand college work is not time to play frisbee. It is time to get the work done and do it on time because in the real world ladies you better bring your A game. Absolutely astounding professor. Crystal clear, focused, intelligent, and just plain knows his stuff. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Super challenging class, if you are lazy or use your cell phone, her will rip you to pieces in the most calm and casual manner. Don't waste his time. He is definitely amazing,but difficult at grading! 3 exams=your final grade.No extra credit at all. His exams consist of 25 multiple choice & 3 essay question options prepare for only two. I suggest to have you're thesis and the 3 body paragraphs memorized dont bother with intro and conclusion until the very end,focus more on main info he wants.
get there 8 minutes early and write down board notes with spaces in between,so when he gets to discussion you fill in everything he discusses in each section. He is in his office 4 days out of the week,highly consider going to his office hours to explain to him your understanding of material so he can clarify in the beginning.Dont waste a minute
I took his class during the summer, he spent every last second lecturing. He is very clear in what he is teaching but you have to take excellent notes. Do not doze off in his class or be lazy, he'll give you a hard time. Take him, learn, and enjoy.

Best Proffesor at Valley. Very smart guy. His tests are hard, they require you to read in depth but you will learn more in his classes then any other class. He cares about the material, helps you if you need it, and is just a real good guy. Be on time, listen, and study.

This was an online class. Read the material well to pass all the quizzes-15 total. 2 essays, that were graded fairly. There were also 2 online discussions that were graded fairly as well. Just watch out for poor scores on the multiple choice tests because they add up. I can't comment on his personality, but he wasn't very attentive for this class.

I took this class online and i swear, I hate to say this, but this Professor is the absolute worst ive ever had! He does not post any lectures or power points in the modules and gives a 20 question quiz every week with only 20 minutes on the clock. Comments are rude and they sound very self righteous. Helpfulness is at a complete 0. Avoid it!

Professor O'regan is a humorous guy. He teaches political science in a unique way that I do not think many polis sci. professors do. He is very interested and has a lot of passion for the subject. Anyone taking him will like his class. I did not get the grade I wanted from the class but I still think he is a good professor.

Took this class online and it is pretty easy. He gives a 25 question multiple choice test every week on each chapter. Through the whole semester you only have to write two discussions and two essays. He is a very strict grader on the writing though. If you need help he isn't very helpful though. Just study hard and write excellent you will pass!
Interesting class. A weekly test that is hard, you must study before as the tests are only 30 minutes. No tolerance for late submission of assignments. I was docked full marks for turning an assignment in late by less than 12 hours.

Best Professor I had while I was at LAVC. Do the reading before the lecture because it does help to pull all of the information together. Using the very generous study guide he offers, write an outline for each of the essay questions. I'd also recommend flashcarding your reading as well as whatever notes you gleam from lecture. Professor's teaching methods are old school. The book is expensive, and his quizzes suck. If you want to take a trip back to the 70's with no computers or digital technology then this is the class for you, beacuse computers and smart phones are not allowed!
He writes on the board so small. He will keep you till the last second of class, yet during the class time he is so slow and wastes so much time. It's annoying to just be there.

He's a good polysci professor. Those who are complaining probably can't handle the workload in terms of tests or its requirement to critically think. His exams require organization, eloquence, and a clear thought process, and if you don't think you're capable of demonstrating these characteristics then don't take the class.
For the online class, two things: First,Use the internet to your advantage. Use it well. Second, don't expect an A unless you were getting A's on your papers in English 101 and other courses. You need strong writing skills for this class. Other than that, its easy and not a lot of work. 1 Quiz a week, a couple discussions and a couple essays.

He does mainly base his multiple choice on the book so get the latest edition the older ones lack info. Gives a study guide 2 days before exam so practice your essay writing skills. I attended intro to Poli Sci Winter 2015. I believe there should be more professors like him. His class is not a handout. You will get what you work for, not what you feel you are entitled to. He is knowledgeable and knows how to get the message across. Be prepared to read; it is vital to passing the class. Excellent writing skills are necessary.

The professor is extremely intelligent in all aspects of politics but his expectations are unreachable. He spends half of the class giving his opinion about modern politics and the other half skimming through the book material. The notes he writes on the board aren't helpful they're more like paragraph titles than anything. Don't be late!
This class was hard. You have to read the entire book for online classes. The outline was not 100% helpful when it came time to do the weekly quiz. His grading was more than fair. Feedback was mostly about what was done wrong, than right. If you've made it to college, than you SHOULD be at the kind of reading/wring level he's expecting.
I've taken O'Regan for 2 classes already. He's a professor that will push your limits to see how well you can write, as well as making you think critically. Very funny guy. Does very long, but interesting lectures. Using phones during class is a no-no. If he catches you (which he always does) he will call you out in front of everybody and make you exit the classroom. Your grade relies on only 3 exams, consisting of multiple choice plus an essay. I have had professor O'Regan for 2 classes, Political Science 1 and 7. I will be having him again this fall for Political Science 2. His class is far from easy, but he makes it an enjoyable and interesting class. I highly recommend trying to get into one of his classes. However, his grades are entirely based off of 4 or 5 tests and a paper.

I took political science 1 with him and although the 3 tests and the final consisted of a multiple choice portion and a essay portion, I actually enjoyed the class. Other than the 3 exams and the final he also assigns an essay of about 1250 words, which was not that bad. I never bought the book.
I took his class in 2016. I took him for the second time. Read the book, read every chapter that he tells you to read because he won't cover everything that's on the test in his lectures. He covers topic in depth, but won't cover every topic that's on the test. He shows videos and parts of documentaries in class. Lots of essays, about 3 or 4.

Professor ORegan is funny but very strict he will lock you out if you are late no excuses! He does NOT give many class assignments just test and quizzes. He gives no instruction for the online class. The grade is based off 15 quizzes, student conversations, and essays. Most of the grade is up to his opinion on your writing. Quizzes are insanely hard, and tricky. You must get the book, and the specific year CORE edition, not essentials, as the chapters are different. Choose another professor.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE avoid this professor's online class if you can. He assigns 3 chapters per week with 3 quizzes that gives you 30 minutes to take for 25 questions. If you have STRONG political science knowledge before hand then you are fine. Learned nothing from this class because it was all about just making sure you get enough points to pass.
This class was very stressful. The main reason for this is that the instructions provided were very vague and lacked detail, which I found frustrating. The weekly quizzes gave you only 30 minutes to answer 25 questions, and the questions were hard even if you read the chapter several times like I did. He hardly provides any extra credit.

I really don't understand the reviews on here. O'Regan is a fair grader and provides clear instructions. The text book was very informative. The only criticism I have is, the chapter tests are often "gotcha" questions, that are less substantive and more about specific dates and numbers.
I would never take him again. His assignments are unclear, he posts a due date but when you open the assignment to complete it you find out the first part of that assignment was due 2 weeks prior to the actual due date. Despite writing papers according to his rubric he gives low grades. I would never take him again.

I find it a bit ridiculous that everyone here had such a hard time with him. I took 3 classes, two in person, one online and recieved two As and a B. It's possible to recieve As on his essays- most of mine were and the only reason I got that B was my poor multiple choice performance. He prepares you for upper-division university level work.

Rude and takes advantage of his online platform to be that way. Unclear due dates, says due date is at a said date and then when you open the assignment to do it, turns out there are two parts of the assignment and the first was already due. Beware, if you don't submit the first part you can't even see or participate in the second part. No no no.
He is a very good professor, he understands the material well and if you have any questions relating to the material he will explain it well. he is clear on what he wants from you and reminds you when you have deadlines coming up. Just know that he is a tough grader and unforgiving if you turn something in late or incomplete.
Pol Sci 1: Very tough grader, but if you know your stuff, he will reward you. Read the damn book! I see so many reviewers saying getting an A is impossible, which is completely false. Just read the chapters, not glance over them. Read each a few times, and that A is guaranteed. A lot of reading, but if you want the A, you will get it.
I took three classes with him and man I miss him so much. Most of the negative reviews here are by students looking for an easy A. And he hates those students! He prepares you to actually transfer out of valley. Hes British and has such a typical sophisticated sense of humor but most students wont understand it and think hes rude.
Professor Oregan is a great professor who cares so much about his students. He definately prepares you for a four year university and makes you work hard for your grade. I transferred to UCLA two years ago and theres not much difference between a poli sci class in Ucla and a class with Oregan. He also loves soccer, probably more than politics.
Hes really strict about his rules. Hes humorous but his lectures dont prepare you for your tests at all. He mostly speaks about his own political views. His study guide is vague but if you read the SPECIFIED chapters thoroughly youll pass. Wish I knew that before I took the class, had to drop because he grades on solely 4 tests.

He has 2 parts to every assignment so you will never get a notification on the app until you missed half the assignment. Which would be a 3rd of your grade based on that. You can avarage out a B and if you dont do well in the discussions YOU WILL RETAKE..
I learned a lot from this class. Mostly from the book and not from any lectures. You must do all the work and respond at least twice to all discussions if your taking the online class. You must be college level in essay writing to receive 100/100. The essays are difficult and sometimes vague to what he really wants.
Really good prof. He knows his stuff. His class is all about his lectures. He lectures for the whole class time maybe boring for some but were interesting. Grade is only determined by 4 2-part tests. Tests: MC & Essay. Prepare for essays in advance, they can be pretty difficult. Doesn't drop test scores. **SHOW UP TO CLASS OR HE WILL DROP YOU!**
He rambles on about things that have nothing to do with what he said we are talking about today. lectures are unclear, he just talks and writes light notes in chicken scratch on the white board. do not take this class if this is not your major. most of your grades is from test, and they aren't easy. i would not recommend to anyone.
If you ever have life threatening situation with hospital and Dr. Note and submit your work 2 hours late, doesn't matter you will get a 0. So, if you can predict from not getting sick than take him.
Anthony O'Regan is a disgrace to LAVC. He uses his class to attack Trump, Conservatives, and really anyone who disagrees with him all day instead of teaching the material. He will test you on things he doesn't cover in the lectures, and the book wont cover the material either.
This is a real college class. O'Regan is brilliant! I took him years ago and no other class or teacher have ever compared. Thus, here I am years later thinking of him and his classes writing this review. Don't be afraid of him, he has a huge heart and is willing to help. He does love football (soccer) huge Liverpool fan more than anything.
No extra credit. Very dry. You can't have an opinion on the discussion topics when responding to classmates. He won't even reveal your grade. You have to sit there and manually calculate it to know where you stand. Your success is not his goal!!! I don't recommend him. I wish I did more research prior to enrolling in his class!
Had to show up to his class with the flu and skip my family vacation in order to avoid being dropped. Often strict to a needless degree. Professor, if you're reading this: We're adults. We're here to learn the course material, not a lesson in "soft skills". This is not your duty and your condescending attitude does not help your case much.
The student's success and knowledge gain is not in his interest. NO leniency on deadlines, so only take his online class if you can foresee absolutely no technical issues. Unwilling to work with students. This is a community college and most of the students are not solely bound to school, but other responsibilities as well. Be perfect, or fail.
I loved O'Regan, he is by no stretch of the imagination an easy professor. If you skip two classes he will drop you and he will not feel bad about it. I loved his lectures! I was constantly interested in class and it's easily one of my favorite classes. He grades on four tests throughout the semester alone, I didn't do so well because of this.

Minimal interaction with students. Seemingly clear instruction on written assignments, but in reality his expectations are higher than seems appropriate for a low level college course.
Took him online over summer, not sure if that was the best idea. Clear grading criteria, clear schedule of when things need to be done, but not everything was due in one day. He spread it out, which makes it hard for those who intentionally take online classes for the sake of not having to physically attend class 1-2x a week.

This review is for an online class. Difficulty is above average, but if you're reading and writing at a college level, you should get an A. Just skim the entire book, do the chptr recap to make sure you understand the concepts, and you should easily pass the quizzes. Only criticism is he doesn't really engage with students outside of online materia

I wish I'd read the feedback of the other students before taking his online class. Especially over the short winter semester . He is the worst prof. I have ever had a chance to take a class with. If you want to take a class that will help make you a better student, a more informed citizen and actually educate you this is the class and professor to take. Hes a tough grader on essays but that just makes you get better for next time and that really carries on to your next classes. This was a tough class but you came out a much better student
I really do NOT recommend you take his online class. I am a relatively good student and it's rare that I receive grades below a B. But this professor (especially for online) is way too tough of a grader and goes overkill on grading assignments. He gives very little assignments and if you fail one of them, good luck getting your grade back up. 0/10
Very picky about writing assignments and will hardly ever give an A. I received an 88% on my last written paper so I tried really hard to get an A on the next one but after a total effort and several thousand words typed I god a C. He made me feel like not even trying anymore and I never knew what I missed on my Quizzes so I didn't learn anything

Prof. O'Regan's classes are not to be taken lightly. He is a harsh grader and expects nothing but top notch work. I have taken two classes with him and have learned a lot. Only take his classes if you are a poli sci major/want to pursue a career in law. PAY ATTENTION TO THE TEXTBOOK. Thanks Prof for the knowledge. Truly felt like a college course.
Amazing professor! He is not harsh, he just wants you to do well. There are two papers, two discussions (another discussion but to introduce yourself) and quizzes. I learned so much from him that I couldn't be more happy in learning Political Science more deeply. I recommend him so take him!
Chapter test first week. The week your getting all your materials, text books based on the syllabis. He assigns a chapter test every week. 1250 word writing Assignments came with vague instructions, yet hes very scrutinizing when grading. Hes not teaching hes on autopilot.
Not inspiring, don't care about the class. Material is not difficult, but the test questions are so tricky, that it is almost impossible to get all of them correct. No personal attachment to the class or students. The grading of papers are too delayed, so it is almost no time to discuss it, no extra credit opportunities. Choose another teacher.
I wrote a paper on Russia, and my ex girlfriend who works for the George C. Marshall center for trans-Atlantic security (Dr. in poli sci) - specializing in Russian affairs - helped me polish my paper, and signed off that it was A+ work... to him it was B+ work. He doesnt help you learn, just demands too much. 0/100
This Professor does not have any empathy for the students. If by any circumstance (it does not matter how serious it is) you miss a deadline, he won't even listen to you. You would get a zero, simple as that. Plus, it is vital to memorize most of the information and the quizzes are designed to make you fail. Overall, a bad experience.

Condescending I would not recommend this professor at all simply for the way in which he chooses to speak to students I have taken courses with a harder curriculum and earned an A. So the work is not difficult but he is. Please save yourself the stress and find a different professor.

Very bad teacher. Doesn't care for the students. Very nit-picky. If you miss an assignment he will not let you make up for it. I had an emergency and I couldn't do one assignment I told him before I would be able to make it in time and he ignored me and didn't say anything. The tests are easy and everything s on google but he doesn't teach anything
Before taking this class, you have to be ready to work hard, be very organized and spend a lot of time on reading. The only thing I regret is not asking him a lot of questions about the assignments because the instructions he was giving were not specific.
Horrible, not only class is hard to take but also if you mess up one of the research paper for any inconvenience you are F up for the whole class. The professor is rude and not helpful. Quizzes dont contain anything from textbook or materials. And he grades really bad without letting u to resubmit or fix anything. Dont take him.

Honestly just don't take the class as there are professors out there who actually care about their student's success. He doesn't give good feedback at all. He's a harsh grader. He's a very a rude professor. He shows no interest for you to learn the material.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is uncaring and unkind. If you mess up on any of the essays you will ruin all chances getting a good grade in the class. He does NOT give any extra credit and offers no remakes for essays, assignments, discussions, or exams.

I took this class in 2003 (I just discovered Rate My Professor). Great lectures, somewhat difficult exams and essays, and NEVER use your phone in class! But you will learn a lot. He is probably the best professor at LAVC. I used to talk to him often after class about current events at the time. With some hard work, you can get an A fairly easy.
My experience with this professor was unfair, I did not get a fair shot in his class based on a technical error. I asked him why I couldn't make up this assignment worth 200 pts that I was not allowed to reupload even though my laptop crashed, he said (actual) "I cannot accept late submissions, deadline has already passed" this is why I failed...
He is a tough grader with writing assignments. Ended the class with an 88. But it was my fault i didnt get the A even though he was a tough grader if I had done a little better on quizzes which in some I rushed (my fault). My highest assignment was a 92% and lowest 85 but honestly i felt like they were all A's. Id take him again to try for the A.
If you even slightly care about your GPA stay away from this professor. There are so many better PoliSci professors at valley that acc care about their students. I'm a straight A student and this was the only class that led me down, there was no way I was able to communicate with the professor to understand what was going on. Horrible experience!

Alot of people say he is bad. Truthfully he isnt. He is a hard grader and gives feedback of what you need to work on. Quizzes every week with 2 written papers and i believe 2-3 discussions. Had to read a tectbook for the quizzes super interesting.
Tough grader, but engaging lectures. Textbook not required, but unstuckstudy AI proved handy for practice questions. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class if you stay on top of the work.

I dropped this class due to unfair grading.After turning in an assignment late, I asked for partial credit but received a zero. I worked hard on my next paper, but the professor wrongly accused me of using AI. Despite explaining and seeking help, no one responded. Avoid this class unfair and unhelpful. Do not choose this class. Worst experience.
Took the class Summer 2024 online and I really enjoyed it! I don't understand all the bad ratings. This class was so interesting to me and the professor made it enjoyable. If you put in the effort, you will succeed. The class was not as hard as others are making it seem? I would take another class with this professor again.
Shockingly tough grader. Heavily unfair. That one homework he unnecessarily dropped, and I don't understand why. It's the only grade that made me have a B. Very picky. As a beginner class, he'd expect you to be a pro in that field of study. It made me hate the course, and I was very disappointed. If you want straight A's, you know what to do.

Aside from the fact that we don't learn anything, his discussions are the most grade heavy parts of this class, and there's only 3 of those. I had an issue with an assignment and he was no help at all just gave me 0 with no help. Dropped my grade from A to a low B. Wouldn't recommend.
