Palmeri loves to talk. He goes on and on. His tests are hard. He is a political activist.
Very hard tests. Good professor, takes the courses very seriously.
He's a good teacher but watch out. Ask lots of ?'s and study your butt off. He also doesn't like to help if you have ?'s about exam reviews. He'll tell you to find it yourself and oh yeah gotta love the belt purse he wears!
I hated him and his class. I knew the subject matter, wrote thorough papers and still ended up with my lowest collegiate grade yet--a b/c. His grading is ridiculous. If he likes you, you'll get an A. If not, too bad for your gpa. He is interesting to listen to lecture though.
Teacher is a little different and picky. If you are not a Democrat, Look out!!!
BORING, BUT GOOD TEACHER
One of the worst prof. EVER!! Terribly boring and more than anything he just likes hearing himself talk! Stay away if at all possible. Be forwarned!! Do not take him!
I have only had him for like 3 classes so I am not really sure but he seems like a nice guy!
muy interesante
worst teacher on campus. he is not even a radio professional, should get fired.
He was a great professor! I learned alot in this class and made me want to change my major to communication. His lectures are boring...but he helps you when you dont understand things.
Dr. Palmeri offers many "real world" experiences and examples to illustrate his points, but outside of class, he is extremely unhelpful. Frankly, Dr. Palmeri is arrogant and impatient. His political obligations seem to obscure his responsibilities to his students.
Incredibly boring - I'll agree with the others that he likes to hear himself speak and has no idea what he is talking about
Oh come on, he wasnt that bad. I thought he had interesting things to say.
Class is interesting but not necessarily the way I would like it run. Often favors specific activities.
He's not a nice guy. He grades very hard and doesn't want to offer any help outside of class. Don't take this arrogant professor or else you will regret it.
Willing to help outside of class, as always people are busy, he can't meet everyday minute of the day, but he is willing to work with you
Not a fair grader because you don't know what he expects of you until after he gives you your grade. It's a little too late then.
pretty full of himself. all he talks about are his political ideas...gets old after a while.
Terrible teacher. His grading is system sucks.
Grading system sucks. He failed most of the group projects + never talked about what we did wrong. He was very unclear about the expectations - everyone thought they did good and then he failed everyone. the speeches were easy, though. two multiple choice exams. he's not a very original teacher and I can't say my interest was spiked by him.
Very unclear when giving directions for group projects, then when groups were done he failed most of them without explaining why. Just copy and pasted same set of 3-4 comments as to why people recieved what they did for grades. Overall a very bad teacher, but seems to be ok outside of class. AVOID!
great professor. makes students think "outside the box." likes if you participate in class, but you will want to because topics are always interesting. one of my favorite profs on campus.
I was scared coming into the class...but discovered he isn't that bad. Just make sure you raise your hand and what not. He is NOT clear at all on what he expects from you until after you have finished the assignment..so beware of that. His tests are all multiple choice...not too hard if you study the night before.
Dont give a speech that goes against what he thinks or he'll give you a bad grade. Avoid this arrogant prick at all costs!
Tough but very good professor. If you talk with him outside of class, very helpful.
Semi-difficult but rewarding class. Learned a lot about comm. and how it is taught/looked at at UWO. Be sure to do well on the speech and use the textbook in addition to the notes to study for the exam. Good sense of humor but can be intimidating. Overall, liked him and the course a lot!
He is a very intelligent man and sometimes cannot get his point across at a lower learning level. For being a 100 level class, it is taught like a 300. The topics were interesting, especially if you like to participate in class. He will love it if you debate topics and share your opinions. Definitely a time consuming and tough class.
Palmeri is a great prof who really knows what he is talking about.
Great professor!! Puts lots of time and effort into powerpoints. Provides stimulating conversation topics during class. He is also very approachable outside of class. Some students complained that he was not clear enough about projects and papers, but I never had a problem with it.
I really enjoyed this class. It was a lot of fun and the professor was great. He answered questions when you asked him and he didn't just do straight lecture he told stories and invited class discussions. He helped a lot of us get out of our shell and give great speeches. Overall he was a great professor and it was a great class.
Dr. Palmeri is not a nice guy unless you are the star student. He is the hardest grading professor I've had on campus. He expects Harvard level work. He seems pretty judgmental when students answer his questions in class. He eats politics for breakfast and LOVES to talk about how he served on the Oshkosh City Council. It gets old.
As a Pol Science minor, I like the political focus of the course. But hes boring and Geeky. He's a dead ringer for Jerry Lewis on the first Nutty Professor movie. All teeth and geekiness.
I definitely did NOT find my voice in his class, but he sure likes his OWN voice!!!!! Fair grader but look out for his bad moods.
Teachers with attendance policies for senior-level classes make me want to puke. If attendance is SO important why do we have on-line courses???How can you justify taking points off my course grade because i missed your limit BY ONE CLASS. It's like he's obsessed with always having an audience for his BS. A Very insecure guy I think.
It's not a difficult class if you do exactly what he tells you to do. You'll do ok, so long as you can handle his self-obsessed narcissistic rants.
Mediocre. Average. Ordinary
He needs to provide much more feedback on speeches and assignments. Also, it's not a good to provide comments that have been cut and pasted and not personalized. Students like to compare comments
I'm a Poli Sci major. Palmeri sounds good when he lectures. The problem is that he doesn't have a whole lot to say that I didn't already know as a high school senior. His grading is very reasonable, but he's a bit repetitive and there's not much substance or meatto the class. Seems like a nice guy.
Dr. Palmeri is an awesome Communication Professor. His exams are a little difficult but if you study his powerpoints closely and attend every class and participate on top of that--you will do great!
I'd give him a B- overall. If you do the work you'll be fine. He tends to talk about himself a lot. It's like he's always trying to persuade us about what a great guy he is.
I LOVE his politics. He reminds me of Dr. Martin Gruberg who was a great professor and teacher in Poli Sci, a few years ago. Dr. Palmeri even looks just like Dr. Gruberg when he wears his glasses!
Ok class and good teacher. A younger prof would relate much better to the students. Tony seems to know what he's talking about but he's totally out of whack when it comes to students interests, goals and ambitions.
I loved his class. He's smart and funny and plays Devils advocate. I found tests easy because it's basically all definitions. The only difficult thing is he expects participation when his favorite sound is his own voice. Cares about attendance but if you wanna pass your classes you should probably be going anyway.
Easy grader and good about getting stuff back quick, but likes to use stories and examples that always make him look good. Kinda weird.
His tests are tough; you'll want to pay close attention to theorist's names and term definitions. Also, KNOW key concepts like the back of your hand; a general idea will fail you when it comes to the exam. He places strong emphasis on negotiated readings of narratives, encouraging critical thinking and consideration of many views. Awesome prof!
He pushes his liberal agenda way too much and says whatever he wants because he has tenure. Wouldn't take him again if I didn't have to.
strict grader and if you skip more than 7 classes you automatically fail
He keeps class moving with humor, clips and heated discussions. He likes those who actively participate and contribute their thoughts. Work hard on your assignments, he notices! Getting good feedback from him is extremely rewarding. Exams are difficult, I did well on 1.5 out of 3. Don't use technology in class. I really enjoyed him and his class :)
Horribly one sided professor, often talks about himself and what a great person he is. Tests are 8+ page short answer questions that don't relate to the study guide at all. Very critical on speeches. If you don't actively participate in class he will take it out on your grades for papers, speeches, and exams.
Has very high expectations for his students and will hold you to them. Very critical. One of the most intellectual and insightful people in my life, really does care about his students. I did participate a lot which helped me learn the material better and create a more rich conversation. You will have to take him in the program and should!!
Ok. But a professor with new ideas would be nice.
Super biased and pushes his views when it comes to politics because he works for a liberal college and has tenure so it's fine right? He would have gotten a 5/5 from me if he didn't shove his political views in my face every class, and then blatantly call out students who don't agree with him. Will never take again.
He MUST be smart! As a professor, he has written four books (soon to be five)and has 37 different scholarly essays and manuscripts in the very best communications journals. Can't get much smarter than that! He also spent a year in Cambridge University, Great Britain, working on a research project.
Had him many years ago. Now that I am older and understand the world a little better I understand what a great Professor he was. I graduated in 1996 I have thought of him many times and his lectures can I can't say that about too many of my professors. I truly think he's a person who's trying to make the world a better place .
Ok professor. That's about it, not much else to say. Not great. Not terrible. Average at best.
Doesn't explain projects clearly AT ALL and when asked for help talks to you condescendingly. Very tough grader when it comes to presentations. Was given a bad group for a final group project and paid for it. While I agree with him politically, talked about politics to the extreme. Gave me my worst grade I've ever gotten in my college career!
I had Tony for most of my upper level Speech classes. Many in the major quickly figured out that if you were liberal, getting A's from Tony was easy. If you were conservative, be prepared to settle for B's at best. So just swallow your pride & common sense, act & write as libtarded as possible, & enjoy the A's. Graduate & then use your brain.
Tony was one of the rudest profs. that i have ever had. I would use his outline, and he would tell me that i "had trouble following basic directions". His comments that he left on my things were very harsh and degrading as a student. my work was labeled as "atrocious" and that "i didn't even try". Working 1:1 with him helps. Go to office hours.
Constantly pushes his political views & talks down on the others/other views. Political right/middlewrong. He's extremely strict with speaking outside of class, giving an email period, if you're not within that for any reason, your email is disregarded no matter how simple of an answer you need. Took class online to avoid listening to his agenda
He was a great teacher! I really enjoyed taking his Comm class during interim and felt like I learned a lot.
Dr. Palmeri is an excellent professor. He is very kind and the papers I had to do for class were somewhat interesting and not horrible. It was clear he cared about his students and wanted them to succeed.
He loves Aristotle and Chomsky which is ok. But he can be really REALLY boring and repetitive. He says hes open to different ideas. NOT!
Really helped me grow as a person throughout my years at UWO. Truly unique professor. Freshman and sophomores will probably hate him though.
When he isnt blabbing about politics he can be interesting. All the jokes and all digs at others makes me think he is an insecure man with esteem issues.
Tony was a great professor! Easy to reach outside of class, always willing to give feedback or better explain projects. The class was very interesting because he relates the material to new or more recent examples. I actually was able to take skills away from this class. Great experience with this professor!
Professor is good, class was very boring. Assignments we mainly at the end of the semester so they were stressful to get through.
I don't know him :) I know someone named AP aswell and I felt like it
Why am I paying to watch speeches? So boring .
Quite literally the worst professor ever. He preaches about mental health and pretends to be sympathetic but when you actually show struggles of mental health he completely degrades you. He told me people have worse anxiety than I do and that I needed documentation of my mental illnesses and disorders. I hope I never have to even look at him again.
For the final presentation, I received a 76% and he commented I should have practiced the presentation more before doing it, while I do public speaking for my job and barely read off my notes. He also said that I seemed to have anxiety while speaking, and I have diagnosed general and social anxiety, so there isn't anything I can do to help that.
Very boring but fair. Make a point of seeing him during his office hours. It will help your grade.
Palmeri was definitely my least favorite professor. He shows no support for any students, and after you give a speech he will give feedback and include something totally opposite of the speech. He does respond to emails fast and is open for office hours a lot and wants you to go to them. If I could restart the semester, I would go to the hours.
Palmeri opened the semester by presenting himself as a professor that cared about mental health and about his students. As time went on, it became clear he hates his students. He often yelled at and called out specific people during class, or after, when the class hadn't left yet. He is a very harsh grader and WILL be rude in his feedback.
Even being one of his favorite students, I will say Dr.Palmeri is a tough grader, can come across as rude, is not the most understanding, and does care about attendance and being on time (if you show up a minute late might as well not come at all). However, I felt that his rubrics were clear. Utilize his office hours. Politics come up almost daily.
Absolutely loved this teacher until I made one wrong move and ended up on his bad side. Definitely grades based on how much he likes you. Great professor and the class was interesting but if your grades matter, beware this is not an easy A. Often gets political in class but it didn't bother me. I would take his classes again but with caution.
He returns stuff quickly and I think his grades are fair. Has a big chip on his shoulder about something
I'm not sure what all these reviews are talking about when they say he's rude & super harsh. He couldn't care less if you go on your phone, show up late, etc. I have only noticed that he really loves his job & is very chill. The only negative would be the long lectures & he sometimes gets political which I don't mind. He's not bad at all!!
He said irregardless twice. No such word.
I really enjoyed his class. I loved that he records his lectures, and provides slides. I do school completely online and he was the first professor to do that. You definitely need the textbook! We read all the chapters. Homework is mostly quizzes and exams, with a few other things. Guidelines are always clear. Seems very understanding of everything
The material was challenging at times, but he always gave great feedback. Each week there was quizzes and discussion posts on textbook chapters. Make sure to read all of the chapter, not just the vocab words. There was 4 exams and all of them had some questions from the quizzes. Great online class, as a fully online student!
very good professor who made his grading criteria clear, if you pay attention to the lectures you shouldn't have any issues, very nice as well!
