Really nice guy. No envolvement what so ever with eagle cruiser or blackboard. Lectures entire class. Simply take notes and read the chapters and you will recieve an A. Only grades given are 4 tests and a presentation.

Mr. Petty is a great professor. His lectures are relevant to the the tests. If you study his syllabus you are sure to get an A or at least a B on the test. Don't rely on just the notes or the book though. He is a very good teacher in my opinion! :)

Petty is a good guy and he opens up the floor for discussions every day in his class. However, sometimes this can detract from the things you actually learn and the tests end up blindsiding you. Study the book, not his notes, as they tend to be incomplete.

Mr. Petty is a fair professor. He covers the material and then tests you on it. His tests aren't easy but if you study you'll pass. I wish my other professors were so fair.

Mr. Petty is an excellent instructor. Tries hard to be reserved about his views, but they eventually come out. He's very knowledgeable in American Government. I really liked this class, it was too fast because I took it during a summer session. I do advise taking this class because you will learn a lot. Test are multiple choice.

Mr. Petty is a great teacher. He is very clear with his words and easy to follow. He is also very non-bias in his teaching. The tests are a little difficult, but not too bad. As long as you follow along with the lectures, you will do great! Sometimes he puts things on the test that he did not mention in class so make sure you read. Good luck!

Mr. Petty is such a great guy! He is very clear in his teaching and not bias at all. He always answers your questions and really cares about his students. I got a B in his class but only because the first month or 2 i didn't really read the material. Make sure you know the study guides and pay attention in class and you'll do great!

He is the best teacher I have had at Wake Tech. He is very knowledgeable and mature ( some teachers seem to hate students for some reason). If you study, and pay attention, you really will comprehend the subject matter. I def recommend this class, especially with Mr. Petty!

I had Mr. Petty for POL 110, 120 & 130 (Intro, American, Local) - he is a phenomenal instructor. With prior government experience, a passion for educating and organization like no other, he keeps students engaged. He is very clear and extremely helpful & available. His study guides are thorough, tests simple but educational. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This teacher is amazing! Easy as pie, I had him for intro to political science, He only gives 4 or 5 test and a oral presentation, no papers were assigned, straight lectures then test. You dont even need to read the book, just pay attention to the lectures you'll pass! I would take Petty for any other political science class.

This class is a great elective course. Petty is unbiased and explains things really well. He's also pretty patient with people and will explain things over if someone doesn't get it. He's a relatively easy grader and his tests were easy. Take good notes and you'll be fine in his class. It's an easy A and it's interesting, besides.

Great teacher, very knowledgeable, very professional, always well prepared. Oh, and he doesn't teach from a book, or powerpoint strides. Actually lectures. You may not know it, but he's actually giving you extra credit behind the scenes if you take part in class discussions.

I had him for 110 and 120 and if I happen to take classes at Wake Tech in the fall, I'm definitely signing up for his state & local gov't class. Great teacher, but please be prepared. Good teacher. Very knowledgeable and thoroughly explains. He lectures from the textbook everyday, no quizzes. However, there's only 3 or 4 tests all semester, and those are your only grades; so if you're a horrible test taker, I wouldn't recommend the class. But if you read the chapters and pay attention & take notes in class, you should be fine.

Great teacher. Probabaly only one of the very few good teachers at Wake Tech. Gives study guides for the tests and is a fair grader. I extremely recommend this class for anyone interested in politics. He worked as an aid too so he knows what he's talking about.

Amazing prof. Knows what he's talking about. Great moderator for a seminar based class that talks about all the taboo subjects. Fair grader. Only 2 major papers in the class. So you better do well on both. He talks with his hands a lot. :) Would love to take his other classes, but I don't need them. Super smart & interesting guy. I made an A+

He's very diplomatic and stays neutral; after a semester in the class I still don't know what his political views are. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Just take his class. I has an 8 am with him, and I actually wanted to go. He listens, he's funny, GREAT attitude, all around amazing teacher. His tests come straight from his awesome lectures but there are one or two "wtf" questions that come from the book so that he knows you're reading. Great class, got an A!

Really nice guy and if you're interested in politics you will find his class very interesting. However i wouldn't call it an easy A, his tests are somewhat hard and most definitely require a good deal of studying.

I really enjoyed taking this class. I thought that it was very interesting and I felt that I walked away having learned a lot. Mr. Petty is very helpful and easy to talk to if you have questions or a concern. I would take another course that he taught just because I got so much out of his first class. You will enjoy this class!!

Mr Petty is a nice teacher but I agree its not an easy A. You will need to have some knowledge about politics to do extremely well in this class. I will agree that his lectures are good and straight foward. Read your book if you don't have prior knowledge of politics!

Really great teacher and person over all. I thought his state and local government would be a breeze, but he proved me wrong. He is willing to help and is very understanding. Do not miss class or show up late though. His tests follow the study guide. His lectures are not based off of powerpoints but word docs he has created.

FANTASTIC teacher!! I can't recommend him highly enough. Knows his stuff, knows how to speak, cares about his students. Great with getting discussions going and keeps class interesting and humorous. Very genuine. And he gives out great study guides!!

Mr. Petty is an AMAZING professor, who actually takes the time to get to know his students. His tests are extremely straight forward and he also gives study guides. I am so glad that I took his classes here at wake tech. Honestly one of the nicest people here. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor and all of his POLY-SCI classes!!!

His tests are easy if you do the study guide all of the way through and read the handouts he occasionally gives you in class. His lectures in class aren't as important to the tests, but they were interesting at least. He asks you to read the book before class, i never did, but you only really need it for the study guides.

The class was alright, Mr. Petty is very open to talking to you about your grade and willing to work with you to bring it up if you get in trouble with it. All you need to be sure to do is COME TO CLASS (he's a stickler about attendance). He gave about 4 pop quizzes over the course of the semester. And no test reviews before exams.

Ok I was not looking forward to taking a pol sci class but I am so glad I did. He is so nice and explains things very well. He gets to know everyone's names which I appreciate a lot. Only assignments are really 4 tests. Just go to class and take decent notes and you'll be fine.

Mr. Petty is awesome! He is one of the best professors at Wake Tech. I would recommend taking any of his political sciences courses. His lectures are very interesting and class discussions are on the tests. You'll need to come to class! But he does give study guides for the test which is extremely helpful.

Mr. Petty has been an amazing teacher. Although I don't like his grading system, his lectures are engaging, he shows strong knowledge in the fields he teaches, he can be very understanding with absences, and encourages debate on controversial subjects in a respectful manner. I recommend him to everybody considering the classes he teaches.

I took the class online and it was extremely easy. There are no tests you just have to read the chapter and answer the questions. You can honestly skip the reading and google most answers. Mr. Petty also gives an entire week to complete the module.

Mr. Petty is definitely a great teacher. He has had personal experience in the political arena and is well versed in the area. He does his absolute best to stay neutral in terms of partisan politics, most people have no idea which way he leans, and he is very clear about his grading material and is not harsh about papers and other assignments.

Mr. Petty is definitely a great teacher. If you are looking for a professor who knows what he's talking about and is willing to debate the issues and not play favorites, Mr Petty is your guy. He is lecture heavy but he doesn't grade participation so although it is smart to do so I doubt he'll criticize you for not paying attention.

I've taken 2 courses with professor Petty: POL120 and POL220. I would recommend his classes to anyone. If you engage in the class discussion and take notes, I don't see how anyone could score less than a B. Plus, the lectures are thouroughly interesting. Thanks for the great classes Dr. Petty!

I took this class on line. I was impressed in how challenge this on line class was. A lots of homework and you have to read and also do a lot research outside your text book. I learned a lot and enjoyed this class. Professor Petty is great in respond emails, and feedback. I truly recommend his on line course.

I'm currently taking his American Politics and International Relations courses, and I promise Mr. Petty won't let you down. He loves participation and wants you to be capable of supporting your opinions in class. If you show up, take notes, and read the book, it's an easy class. He makes it easy to WANT to go to class. Favorite prof by far.

Great professor. Lectures were always very interesting and lets students voice their opinion. Lots of pop quizzes but they are short and easy if you are at least half paying attention in class.

Hes funny and nice. He has an amazing memory. His lectures were interesting and funny. You do have to read the book in order to pass the class, though, and you have to pay attention during the class for those pop quizzes. But he makes things easy by letting you use a page of notes on each test.

Awesome teacher he clearly knows what hes talking about and he does it in a fun, knowledgeable way. Makes hard to talk about topics seem approachable and his tests are easy just pay attention in class and take notes through out

Professor Petty is a very helpful teacher. He is very informative and will give you the correct information to read and all of his questions are related to the material. He gives great feedback on papers and grades very fairly.

I highly recommend this teacher. I didn't know much about government or politics before this class, but I think I have a fair understanding of it now. There isn't much homework, but you do need to study for the tests. He did a really good job of fairly explaining issues from multiple points of view. He also posts interesting resources online.

Professor Petty's course was fairly easy and also highly informative. The entirety of the course consisted of weekly homework assignments which were largely multiple choice and short answer. As long as you follow along with the text and put thought into the few short (1-2 page) papers you will do well and learn a lot about America along the way.

Professor Petty is outstanding! I wish he instructed more courses that I need. I would gladly take another class with him. His lectures are excellent. Tests come straight from lectures and reading material. No surprises!!! If you put in the work you can easily get an A. Caution, he gives pop quizzes at the beginning of class instead of attendance.

Mr. Petty is a very organized and respectful teacher. His entire online course consisted of modules that were due every week on a different chapter in the textbook. The modules were very time consuming so plan ahead for those, but the course was super easy and interesting. Mr. Petty gave his class time off for breaks unlike many of my other courses

He has a clear and pretty concise schedule, no final exam, just module work. Took this class online, was not time consuming at all. Also very informative, I recommend. Some may find boring but it teaches you the basics you need in order to understand the basis of America and the government.

He's really easy to talk to and is more then willing to help as long as you let him know. I had to be out of town for about 2 weeks but he was accommodating cause I told him at the beginning of the semester.

A solid choice for a teacher but there is an absolute ton of material to cover. Because of this, there is a lot of homework and a lot of reading.

Great teacher, definitely leaves good feedback. Asks questions that really make you think about where you stand politically. One thing worth mentioning: this teacher uses a FREE TEXTBOOK that's available online.

Professor Petty was great! A few pop quizzes throughout the semester, 4 exams (including the final), and one paper. That's it! No need to read the book unless you don't listen to his lectures. His lectures are interactive and very knowledgeable. The time went by fast. Definitely an easy class as long as you listen and read if needed. Take him!

Professor Petty was great! He was clear about what was expected, gave opportunity for extra credit, was available to talk after class and during office hours, and would meet up to talk about how to improve your grades if you ask. He gave good examples and did get the class involved a bit in demonstrations. Overall solid teacher.

Prof. Petty is great. I am taking American Gov online with him right now due to the pandemic. It is 1 assignment a week that is about 30 multiple choice and true/false questions. We had 1 paper and no tests and the semester is almost over. As long as you turn in the assignments it is an easy A. Lots of opportunities for extra credit!

He was great. Only thing I didn't care for was how I felt there was a small amount of bias towards a certain political party, however, he didn't seem to let it affect his grading or anything so it wasn't too bad. We all have different opinions. You gotta do the work and you'll need to go through the book but it wasn't bad.

I definitely would not take this class if you don't really care about gov. bc it's mad thorough. For me, this was one of my fav classes I took at wake tech. I took it precovid so I'm not really sure how great it would be online. If you can wait to take it in person I would recommend. Prof Petty knows how to make the class interesting & engaging.

One of the easiest classes ever, as long as you do the work. The assignments are usually 30 questions from textbook readings each week. Then only one essay assignment, with no tests the entire semester, and lots of chances of extra credit. Professor Petty also gives very detailed feedback. The only con I feel is there are a few political bias.

Genuinely my favorite professor I have had so far. i am very interested in the class and subjects we go over which definitely helps, but he is very unbiased. He is super helpful and resourceful. No tests. Weekly assignments and readings. He is very approachable and helpful.

Professor Petty's class is so straightforward. He gives you all your work for the week, which is 25 questions or so and a mini-essay, all in one document due at the end of the week, simple stuff. He has an obvious political bias to the left but I don't think it hurt my grade which was nice to see from a professor finally.

Professor Petty was very clear around his expectations. Homework was answering questions for each chapter. There was one long essay and several short, 1 pagers. Class was really easy as long as you read the material. He definitely tends to lean to the left but that did not effect any grades if you had a differing opinion. I'd highly recommend.

He gives a worksheet with around 30 question every week and usually the last question is an essay, there are also a couple of papers, a research paper and another one about different topics. Overall as long as you get the worksheets done and do well on them you'll get an A. He also makes his political views known so just ignore if you don't agree.

Taking it asynchronous. Lots of material to review and assignments are not always posted on time but he'll extend deadlines if he's late. Can't work ahead. Lots of extra credit, but don't bother asking for any extra. Always check weekly homework for multiple page-long essays. Easy to contact and helpful. Gives good feedback. No discussion boards.

Petty is a straight forward instructor, as long as you complete the assignment and turn it in on time, you'll pass. No reason you cannot get an A as long as you read the material. Graded only by the weekly assignment, which includes multiple choice, fill in the blank, and the occasional page long paper. He's a good instructor and recommend.

Although I took this course asynchronous, ProfPetty was great. He's super accessible via email, and always willing to help. His class mainly consists of reading material from the online, free textbook and watching lectures then answering multiple choice, T/F, and essay questions. Occasionally there are essays due. Overall, pretty great. Easy A.

If you show up to class, you'll do well. Attendance is the most important thing in this class, there were maybe 5 homework assignments the whole term, and they're nearly all multiple choice. There is a free textbook that if you read you'll get an 100 on everything, if not (I didn't) and payed attention in class, you'll get something like a 90.

He was a great American Government teacher and was always willing to help answer any questions you might have. He also gave several extra credit assignments you could complete to raise your grade. I missed class for a week because I was sick and he gave me back the chance to take the pop quizzes. I would recommend.

The easiest A course I have ever taken, one assignment a week, a simple quiz (untimed) with maybe a short essay. No final, and he was super nice. Petty is a simple, structured professor who is passionate about government. He genuinely wants his students to learn. I highly recommend taking this class with him, he's accessible, and understanding.

Professor Petty's POL-120 class has been a fascinating and all-around enjoyable class. His lectures are engaging and consider the variety of perspectives students may have. He does give pop quizzes pretty frequently, but they are almost always focused on the main points from the last class meeting, so if you pay attention, they're not overly hard!

You will start having pop quizzes by your second class and it is very rare when you don't. READ the textbook, a lot of questions on the quiz are things you would normally skip over while reading a textbook. He is nice and class is fun

Mr. Petty was a great teacher for POL-120; with enjoyable, interesting lectures one could tell he was legimately invested in helping us understand the material. The tests in his class were manageable assuming one studied well for them, and there were notable extra credit opportunities; quizzes and an optional paper. He did show political opinions.

This is by far my favorite professor at Wake Tech. He is an AMAZING instructor. There is a lot of reading and pop quizzes but as long as you pay attention during lecture you should be fine. He is incredibly understanding and I cannot recommend him enough.

I took this course online, and it consisted of just reading and answering questions. Thats it. The textbook is FREE, and the answers to most of the questions can be found from it or from other online sources (AKA: google). It was honestly kind of boring, but it's a free A so I am not complaining. If you want a light and easy class, then take his.

Mr. Petty gives a lot of pop quizzes, but I did badly on most and still got an A. I also skipped reading a lot. He gave us some assignments to do at home to bring up our grades and to replace exams. He seems to care about students. Overall, you'd have more fun in this class if you're more involved than me with international affairs.

Professor Petty makes each lecture very interesting making me want to listen and really take in the information. He does start class regularly with pop quizzes on last classes topics or that chapters reading. Recommend to at least skim the reading before every class and take notes during class. A page cheat sheet is allowed for each test.

just take him, pick him. HE'S TOO GOOD AT TEACHING HIS CLASSES. I took all the classes he offered at wake tech because he is just too good. my first language is not english and yet with all the quizzes he gave, I got A's in all the courses. Make your effort and choose him.

His lectures are interesting, take notes during and make sure to read the material. Liked the class discussions. Beware of quizzes, almost every other class if not every class. But they're not bad if you do the reading and listen to his lecture + take notes.

Mr. Petty was amazing for online American Government. No quizzes or tests, just reading assignments and fill-in-the-blanks. He was kind in emails and was the highlight of my previous summer semester.

I did get a C but a lot of that was due to me and NOT Mr. Petty. You definitely need to read the textbook, he goes over it in class in case there's something you're confused about. Make sure you are ON TIME he gives pop quizzes at the start of class and those are your main grades. He also gives 10 pts. for attendance. Also gives extra credit.

Professor Petty's lectures are engaging and he provides ample opportunities for extra credit. While the frequent pop quizzes can be challenging, using unstuck ai and the course textbook makes this class manageable. Overall, an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

My first semester at Wake Tech, and I am so grateful to have had a great history teacher who cares and teaches with passion. I recommend taking this course with him; it wasn't a class that I dreaded going to but looked forward to. There will be a lot of pop quizzes, though, which makes you retain the information easier. Take notes and listen.
