The most helpful and organized teacher ever, cares greatly for his students. 3 tests, 2 short easy papers. Provides study guides and extra credit. Books are a must but very interesting. It's a class where you do minimal but learn a lot. Clickers are used but are extremely helpful. Wonderful Class and teacher. Definitely recommend.
You'll learn most of the material just by listening to his fairly interesting lectures. I only read the two chapters that I had to write short papers on and I got a B in the class. You'll learn the material because his lectures are so clear.
I really enjoyed this class. I was not looking forward to it prior to the course but once I went it was so easy going. He does take attendace but has some exceptions. Clickers are mandatory but he gives several days of misses. I loved his teaching style; Fun examples, movies
Really nice guy, super easy class. He is very organized and makes sure you are aware of upcoming assignments. Very willing to help with any questions you may have and pretty easy ciriculum, if your looking for a nice teacher and laid back class he's your guy!
Great class, easy A. I got a B b/c you are allowed to miss 6 classes and I decided to miss way more. Tests are rather hard if you do not study. No study guide given but review session extremely helpful. Great teacher that tries hard to keep you interested and will help you with any problems. Highly recommend.
NOT an easy A, but should get B- or better if you go to class. Instructor is helpful, interesting & flexible (drops lowest test, lowest quizzes, 6 clicker days, and offers extra credit). Uses clickers, but they are helpful (especially for test reviews). Avoid cumulative final if possible (no need to take if happy with grade on first 3 tests).
Very nice guy that truly wants his students to do well. Clear and organized teacher. Not an easy A but easy B. I would recommend this class.
He was a great professor! This class was an easy A...just need to go to class because you can't miss more than 6 days, which turns out to be a lot. The tests are fairly easy and he gives a review the class before a test, with questions similar to the actual test. No homework, just 3 easy 5 question online quizzes. Would definitely recommend!!
Nicest teacher Ive had so far at ASU! He really cares about his students. Makes silly jokes but he has you cracking up, and does a lot of activities in class that help you learn. Material is fairly easy and like I said, he does anything to help! I would recommend him to any student for COM 100!
Professor Roberto was a really nice guy. Not his fault the class was so large but it did make learning a little difficult at times. His lectures are really interesting though, and he does a lot to try to get you involved. I Would definitely love to take another class with him.
Roberto is really awesome. His lectures are really interesting and he tries his best to hold your attention. He does REQUIRE you to use a turning point clicker. Clicker pts are essential. He has four major tests, but drops lowest score. He does give extra credit. LOVED THIS CLASS!
LOVED THIS CLASS!
This class is pretty easy, and Roberto is a pretty cool guy. He will try to help you as much as he can and does a good job at it. Go to all his classes and pay attention, copy the notes and read the book. Easy A.
read the text, come to class. It's not hard NO TRICKS just read the material and you're good
not that bad of a class just make sure you go cuz he takes clicker points. quizzes are very easy theres 3 or 4 the whole semester and the tests arent bad just make sure you study the vocab and youll be fine
Good teacher, pretty fun class. My only problem is that he has his TA's watch for people "talking" and one day they assumed a group of us were, however my friends and I were just sitting near the people who were, and they unfairly took a few percentages off of our grades the end of the year, changing my B to a C+! I am very upset about it.
You definitely need to read the textbook, because a lot of the test questions are essentially vocab questions. Clicker points are an easy way to get points, and the online quizzes are really easy. Didn't like the TAs hovering over the class, but it made sense with hundreds of people in one room. Stumbles at times, and he repeats himself a lot.
He is a nice guy. Go to class, make sure you have your clicker, skim the book, write the notes he gives in class and you will do good. Some days are boring, but he does his best to make it interesting.
This is my only lower division class and its my hardest, ive learned half of the stuff taught in class but the way he words things on tests are awful. some of the things he lectures in class arnt in the text book and then he puts in on the test. every quiz i could only get an 8/10 on. hes not awful, but take it with another teacher if you can.
Not a bad class, lectures can be interesting. Like Soc or Psych 101, not a class to stress over, just read the chapters and look over class notes and you'll do fine. 3 online quizzes which are easy, 30 attendance points (can miss up to 8 days for full credit). He explains the material pretty clear in class while his TA thinks she should be teaching
He's a pretty good teacher and not difficult to understand. It also an interesting class. Attend class, take good notes and make sure to also do the reading. I would recommend reviewing the notes a couple time after every lecture and this will help when exam time comes around because the question are sometimes tricky. He gives lots of scenarios.
Roberto is a great COM100 Teacher. This class is an easy A if you 1)Go to class (for clicker points) 2)Study from lecture notes and vocab from book (no need to read entire chapters). 3 Tests plus final and he drops the lowest...so final is optional for many students. Online quizzes are guaranteed 100s (10% of grade). Plus he keeps your attn.
This teacher is extremely boring and painful to listen to. However you must attend class. Buy the ebook(its way cheaper) and just study your notes and the vocab. His TA are really nice and helpful.
Not a terrible class, but the lectures are a little boring. Come to class, study for tests, and it's a pretty easy class. Roberto tried to make the class interesting, but most lecture halls are hard to do that in.
clear lectures and overall a nice, helpful teacher. tries to make the class fun and he does, the class could be much more boring. id recommend him for sure
This class isn't as easy as everyone says. I am an A student and his tests are tricky. You don't get a study guide and sometimes he doesn't even know what he is talking about
Horrible Teacher, Never responds back to E-mails, No sympathy towards students.
If you go to class everyday (clicker points track attendance) and read the text book there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. He's a charismatic teacher and does everything he can to make you understand the material. All those that gave him low ratings probably didn't read or show up to class
Great teacher! All you need to do is show up to class to get your clicker points. His lectures are very interactive and everything he talks about is on the test. Not tricky at all.
Professor Roberto is great! You get super easy clicker points and only have to do 3 quizzes and 4 exams (but get to drop lowest). Just go to class, take notes, and make sure to read the book. Then this class will be a breeze. He's nice and helpful too. Definitely take him for COM 100!
Come to class, get free clicker points. Quizzes are online, and you have two chances to take it. Tests are much harder than I expected, but he does drop your lowest score. Prof. Roberto is enthuastic on the subject, and he makes the class interactive, not just boring powerpoints. A-B in the class, easily!
Tony is super helpful and enjoys what he teaches! He's very enthusiastic about his course and always is ready to answer any questions you may have. Definitely a funny and personable professor, too!
He really structures the class to ensure his students do well in it. His lectures are not boring and he tries his best to keep students involved in class with clicker points.Youcan miss eight days and still get a hundred percent on clicker points! His tests are also easy as long as you put the time in to study and go to class. Overall, great teacher
Tony was a great professor! He was clear about what was on the tests, used interactive examples, and he even made the "mandatory" attendance allowing you to miss 8 classes and still get 100% on participation. He's so accommodating and helpful, but most of all made communication interesting (now my minor)! I wish he taught higher level classes...
Took the one night a week class. Usually kept us entire class period. Lots of in class negotiation exercises. 2 exams, 2 papers, and a big group project with 30min presentation. He enjoys teaching the subject. Easy clicker points for showing up. Group project is a pain but show up, study for the exams, and do the 2 papers and you'll be fine
Roberto is awesome. Fun guy but also really cares that his students learned the material. I'm a com major so this was a really good first class to take. Tests are all multiple choice and there are easy clicker points for showing up to class. Easy A.
I felt that most of what he taught was common sense, however, I could not get any better than a C on the tests. He is actually a pretty entertaining instructor though.
Very good teacher! He incorporates all different types of learning styles and has you do some fun activities in class that keep you interested. This class has some cool information even if you aren't a COMM major. Definitely recommend him
Roberto is an extremely nice guy, however while his lectures may seem straight forward, his exams are anything but! His exams are usually multiple choice and require knowledge from lectures and the book, however they are extremely tricky and in order to truly do well in this course, you must put at least 6 hours a week or more into studying.
Great professor best COM 100 option in Tempe, Lets you have 8 free days. Drops lowest exam. Online easy quiz's answers in the book. Easy A+.
His lectures are really fun an interactive. You must have a clicker to earn the participation points but it's so worth it. The way he sets up his lectures makes it so you actually learn. You must go to class cause he puts questions from the book and from the lecture on the exams. I would get the book and read the chapters to review for the exams.
I loved Professor Roberto! I would highly suggest taking his class. You do have to buy a clicker ($70) for attendance and participation credit but you can miss up to 8 days. The tests are kinda hard though, you actually have to know the material so just pay attention in class and you'll do just fine!
He was such an amazing teacher! The class is fairly easy. I'm boarder line A+ right now. He was extremely helpful and if you go in to talk, he'll help you figure out the material. READ BEFORE TESTS AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE. The test are only 40 questions but they are all straight forward. If you study and show up, you get an A easily.
Very generalized freshman class. Very dry and rehearsed lectures. Don't expect this class to enlighten your life. He's a very generic teacher. grade for the semester goes as follows: 30 clicker points, 30 quiz points, 240 best 3 out of 4 exams, and a max of 10 extra credit points. take your score and divide by 300 to get your letter grade.
Tests are pretty hard if you don't pay attention.
not as easy as i thought
The information in his lectures you can't find anywhere else and it's always on the test so you have to pay attention and not fall asleep in lectures. As long as you follow the Study Guides and complete them more than a day before you'll do well on each test.
Literally as long as you show up and pay attention, you will pass. There was no homework, a few "take-home quizzes" and a few exams. Gives extra credit, and drops your lowest exam score (So the final is actually optional). Super clear when presenting information.
Roberto is awesome! If you show up to class and pay attention you will pass. The information is all relatively easy to understand. When taking quizzes, make sure you actually read the textbook! Tests cover material in class and in the textbook as well. I found the tests to be more difficult than I thought, but I still received good grades on them.
Professor Roberto really knows his stuff and his lectures are pretty basic. His lectures run anywhere from 40 minute to an hour and he rarely ever keeps you the whole hour and 15 minutes. Clickers are used for attendance but you get to miss 8 days with no penalty! Very nice and clear. Tests are easy if you study and moderate-hard if you don't study
His class is pretty easy. He drops the lowest exam grade so you won't have to take a final exam if you don't need to. His lectures are pretty interesting and don't last the whole class time. He does use clickers but you can miss 8 and still get 100%. As long as you show up you'll be fine.
Easily one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. Although attendance is mandatory through clickers, you get easy points for being there and he makes the lectures so interesting. I never wanted to miss class. If you read the textbook and take notes, exams won't be terrible. Not a class you want to cram for though.
Com with Roberto is easily my favorite class. Lectures are interesting, and tests are pretty easy if you do a decent amount of studying. Roberto is a funny guy, and genuinely cares about the success of his students.
So glad I took him for COM 100! His classes are basically powerpoint lectures where you take notes on the slides and it's important that you go to class because everything on his powerpoints are on the exams! He makes com super interesting with activities and videos, highly recommend.
Best teacher I have had all year. His lectures are very clear and his test reflect them very well. He makes the class fun and interesting. If you attend class and take good notes it should be an easy A.
The exams/quizzes are based on lectures and reading the textbook during the course. Professor Roberto's tends to speak fast during the lectures so it can be hard to take notes in the class. You do not received your test's back after they are graded because he does not want his teaching material shared with others. I would avoid this professor.
Professor Roberto is very kind and passionate about what he teaches. If you show up to class, take notes, and review the study guide given to you before each test, you will get a A or B. Not a hard class at all, most of the material is pretty basic, but there was also some interesting things to learn. Take Roberto!
4 quizes, 4 exams, and clicker points is what determines your grade in this class. GOOD LUCK
Lectures are OK. But quizzes are tough. Especially with only 5 questions 3 pts each miss one and you are already starting low. Final exam covers everything from day one, and it's timed plus heavy graded. Only 200pts. possible in class, very little room to make mistakes. He changed the schedule mid way and screwed up people with their grades.
Textbook is interesting, lectures are boring, tests and quizzes are hard. I'd never take this prof again. He doesn't care about students and only wants to look decent to superiors. Quiz questions are ambiguous, and his response was "there is more than one way to read it, you read it wrong." Blackboard is super disorganized for an online class.
Good class, with mostly fun and interesting material. He drops the lowest test grade (so only your best four tests count toward your grade). He also drops your lowest quiz grade (so only your highest three quizzes count toward your grade). And, you can miss a fair number of days and still get 100% for participation. Recommended.
His lectures are good and interesting. DB are easy, but the quizzes/test are tough. Very heavily graded. At times the questions were wordy and hard. You take this class and you better be prepared. What is concerning is that the weekly quizzes and Exams are practically what determine if you pass or fail. I was doing so well until quizzes.
Prof. Roberto is one of the best. Clicker points every class so attendance needed, however there is 0 homework aside from 4 tests and quizzes each semester. Provides tons of interactive examples and slides for lectures, so was one of my favorite classes to attend. Tony is cool and loves to teach - Highly recommend!
My COM319 experience was much different. If you take notes on the lectures (two per module which were never longer than 14min) you do fine on the quizzes. In total there are 7 quizzes (20 questions each), 1 accumulative final (40 questions), and three discussion boards with a 100 word min, and a 2 page paper. Not an "easy A" but not hard at all!
My experience was very good as well. The first two modules were a bit harder than the rest (study more for those), but it got easier after that. The class was organized, and book was interesting. The class included an extra credit syllabus quiz, and regular announcements to make sure we didn't miss anything important.
Easy class. Solid teacher who's exams and quizzes are not difficult. Its not a show up and pass class but its one of the easiest classes I've taken at asu. COM 100 shared many of the same concepts as sociology.
I really enjoyed material covered in this course and his lectures were engaging and relatable.
Absolutely awesome class! Great material and the textbook is fun to read. Useful info for everyday life. The quizzes were very challenging though. Ive always been a good test taker, but the way these questions are worded can be confusing. Only 200 possible points so stay on top of your work. Not a lot of work though. STUDY FOR QUIZZES.
I wish I could write more than 350 characters, this class was one of the worst I've taken at ASU. Moderately interesting content, made extremely dry and boring. He was in the process of writing a text book, so a large part of our grade was reading and critiquing it... Class was graded by very few things. Unnecessarily confusing due dates
Professor Roberto is a student's professor. He will meet you more than half-way. If you put in the effort you will get an A or B. This class is test heavy. Study for the tests and you should be okay. He gave two extra credit points at the end of the class. This helped those on the border.
All around a great professor: very clear and concise grading requirement & course schedule. The content isn't life changing but if you take good notes during lectures you will do good on the open note weekly quizzes. Professor has a passion for the subject & it shows, he responds to emails quickly. Cumulative final questions taken from quizzes
A very organized course. He has very clear/strict standards. The biggest critique would be that when you take this online w only 200 points available you would think we would have a tad bit more time for quizzes being that the course moves so quickly each week. I was super stressed with the time limits! Overall, not too bad!
I would never take this class again. His lectures come directly from the book so he is not original at all. He loves his "trick" questions. He gets back to you on email about 4 days later. I had a death in the family and he required proof of everything but the death certificate and expressed zero empathy.
This was a great class and you'll really learn a lot if you read the text and watch the lectures. The assignments aren't bad at all and there's discussions due every other week. Quizzes and quick and average difficulty. I really liked this course and Professor Roberto. He isn't lenient on late assignments, which is why I finished with a B+.
This class was very straight forward and if you do the work you will pass. Timed quiz and short discussion board posts every module. One 2 page paper for the term. Provides short to the point lectures that are easy to follow and helpful for the tests. He is very responsive and willing to work through any issues or concerns.
The class has a fairly simple workload with a quiz every week, a discussion board assignment every other week, and one short paper. Read the book (it's very insightful) and watch the weekly lectures, and you should do fine. Dr. Roberto is also a fair grader with his clear expectations and grading criteria. Frequent announcements are also helpful.
honestly one of the best comm profs at asu. you need to do the readings, but his lectures are super helpful and his quizzes are easy if you read. hes super nice and actually wants you to pass! the final was reasonable, the paper was easy, and the book is actually interesting. i would deff take him again!
Good professor. Has clear assignments so not much. need to reach out to him, however, when I did reach out, he was very responsive and helpful. Just be sure to watch the lectures and take notes and you'll pass with no problem. I actually learned a lot in this course.
The class was clean, easy to follow, only used one book, and was engaging! I would highly recommend this class! He was passionate about his lectures and the subject. I took it online and each week was a module, two lecture videos that were about 20 min in total and we would read a chapter each week as well.
In honors you give 2 presentations to the class on the content (so students teach half of the material the whole semester) but super easy and only takes points off if it isn't long enough. Very similar to psy and soc. Drops an exam and not proctored- so go to class, take online notes, and ctrl F them in exams. No other assignments. Nice chill guy
I was in Dr. Roberto's honors section of COM 100 and still found the work very manageable. The tests were difficult at first, but I eventually got the hang of it. Dr. Roberto offers so many resources such as practice tests and videos that it's impossible to do poorly if you put in effort. I would recommend this class, especially the honors section!
Honors Section just had 2 presentations per person in addition to 5 multiple choice exams. Exams are worth 80% of grade and projects are 20%. He's nice and tries to make lectures relatable. If you are not a strong test taker, I would not recommend. He's very accessible via email, but does not offer extra credit.
Loved this class and professor! You need to get the book and do the reading but it is very easy and interesting. I learned a lot of helpful things in this class and highly suggest taking it if you can.
Great class & prof! There's a lot of reading and lecture videos but they are all interesting. The quizzes were all easy if you pay attention. He communicates great and is very kind!
