Tests come directly from his notes, which are very clear. You'll do fine as long as you go to class and memorize his notes. I loved his class--found him enjoyable and easy to understand.
Tests are straight from lecture notes.
He makes biology as clear as possible considering its biology.
Best professor that I've ever had...clear and enthusiastic.
If you don't take his evolution class you're missing out! He is knowledgable in every subject offered at the University! (Only downfall: speaks very, very fast.)
Love that ponytail..very intelligent Jedi
Cool guy, very knowledgable and unbiased. Take his class.
Definitely got/kept me interested in plants...;) plus he's hot! Seriously, he's an awesome professor who loves his research and I would take another of his classes any day (in fact, I have taken more than one of his classes).
loved his style and enthusiasm for the subject... definitely worth taking...just come to class and take good notes and you will do fine. he is one of the best profs at this lame-o school!
Rossi gives explicit and enthusiastic notes. He even uses colored chalk to help students understand very abstract topics. Major downpoint was his continual pressure/influence concerning evolution. He mentions it constantly. Learned alot about bio though.
very cool guy. tests comefrom notes he writes on the board. not an easy A but should be an easy B
AWESOME teacher. He is an excellent lecturer and his tests directly from the notes. Only 4 tests and 1 is a drop grade. Grades hard on the test, but there are no surprises on them. Study notes and you will do just fine. If you do well on 1st 3 tests than you don's have to take the final. GREAT CLASS
Amazing Professor!! He is completely thorough in his notes and explains everything great. All you need to do is go to class and you will be set. His tests are directly from his notes, and if you are in class everyday, you won't even need to reference the book. Excellent professor!
He is a good teacher you just have to be able to memorize deffinitions and know statistics for his test.
I love Rossi he's awesome, you will learn a lot and actually want to go to class. I leave you with a final thought...what girl isn't jealous of his hair
Rossi is amazingly thorough--almost to the point of obsession. He is a really warm man, and he is an extremely approachable professor. The material can be difficult to grasp, but Rossi explains it in a way that even non-bio majors can understand easily. Highly recommended! Beautiful hair! =)
very easy going guy. make the class easy to understand. recomend him to eveyone
Great lectures! Very friendly, intelligent, and always helpful. Tests only from notes, but EVERYTHING is fair game. Study all notes, even stuff that seems small. It could be on the exam! Also he likes detailed definitions and essays. Not too easy, not too difficult, always enthusiastic!
He is a lot of fun. Shows enthusiam and truly seems to love what he's teaching. He writes clear notes on the board and the tests are solely from the notes.
he's pretty much the my fav. prof. His class was awesome. Informative and tests r from notes no need for a book here. I got a B, but learned alot, what would u do in a situation like that?!
I love him! HE is my faorite professor by far. I would have his babies...maybe that was taking it a little too far..in any event I suggest you take him class. He's a great teacher and is very excited about biology and teching. Love it!
Awesome professor, genuineinterest in all the students. Awesome professor to do research with.

He talks extremely fast and is kinda hard to keep up with.
Rossi is a very nice and approachable professor. However, his class is very fast paced and if you want to pass the tests you must write everything that he writes on the board and then some. he gives a good lecture, don't go by the book - what ever comes out of his mouth will be on his exams! good luck!
Tests are extremely difficult! If you miss one class you are toast!! Labs are fairly easy and fun.
He covered all topics clearly and repeated them if we did not hear or understand them.
He is a very up beat teacher who writes everything you need to know on the board. The tests are hard so study. take down all of his examples because they make up 25% of the test. You need to come to class and pay attention to details. i barely looked at the book and study guide. they are not needed to pass this class.
Rossi is very excited, yes, but the tests are extremely hard because there is absolutely NO review. Also the questions on the tests aren't straight forward from the notes, they are tricky. I always walk away from a test thinking I did okay and then failing, example- the class average on test #2 is a 60. Have fun!
Only take if health major. He is a great teacher, and loves his job. Test are bad, come right from notes. dont need the book. curves final grade and drops lowest grade. he isnt hard, but also not easy A. you must study notes, but if you go to class and pay attention will do fine. highly recommend him!
Rossi is a great teacher who is a genius. The problem is, he makes his tests for someone as smart as him. Make sure if you do not need General Biology for your major!! Take Principles in Bio!! His tests come straight from notes, no book. The only problem is, is that his tests are incredibly difficult...I stress this INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT
Dr. Rossi is an awesome teacher who is enthusiastic about everything that he teaches. His tests are a little tricky becasue I thought I did well but then it turned out to be not so good. Tests are straight from lectures and lectures provide extra interesting facts.
he does everything on the board and doesnt believe in blackboard. explains thing clearly and knows his material backwards and forwards. tests arent that easy and require more studying. his notes are straight from the book so DONT buy it!! youre better off buying the priciples bio book b/c it explains things much better than this book. must go to cl
I took this class as a non-science major. But I thoroughly enjoyed this class. He explains the material so well and makes it interesting to learn. There are four tests and he drops the lowest one. NO BOOK needed. Take good notes, and he writes everything down on the board, so it is not hard to take great notes.
He is a nice guy and very enthusiatic about his job! He is very intelligent.........however tests are really hard.......and he is not helpful at office hours.....nor does he email back. If you good at Biology and science courses take him you will do well..........if bio. is a subject you aren't good at.......def. don't take him he goes way too fa
Great professor. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of biology. Very enthusiastic teacher. He never uses blackboard and instead draws everything on the chalkboard, which I prefer much more. He explains very thoroughly during lecture. Tests are directly from lecture material. Class is only difficult if you don't go to lecture or study for exams
Dr. Rossi knows Biology backwards and forwards. He is willing to help his students. The tests were entirely from the notes. Take notes, rewrite and study and you'll be fine.
He's an amazing teacher. He never used the textbook which can hurt a little in later classes but he still covers pretty much everything you need to know to go to Gen Bio II. Go to lecture! His exams are straight from lecture and if you go, there's no way you won't do well. Explains everything very well and always willing to help. Take him!!
This teacher is AMAZING. He is so enthusiastic about science. You can see it flowing out of him. Go to class, you'll love it, plus the test comes straight from notes. Don't need book. Genuinely CARES about every student. Such a cool guy. Best professor I've ever had.
He is a great teacher!! Take him, he will change your opinion on teachers at UNF, if you don't like any of them. He is the best professor at UNF!!!!!!!
Absolutely Fabulous!!! He is a wonderful teacher. He talks fast, but he is willing to go back over certain concepts so that you fully understand them. Take him!
Great clas! Tests are from notes so show up and take good notes and you will be fine. Stats knowledge a must for this class. Each test will have math problems and try to get help from TA or prof before tests to practice. You have to work hard in the lab. Textbook annoying and unhelpful.
He really knows his stuff! And that is the problem, he is WAY to detailed. I went to every class, reviewed etc, still failed with a D+. Dont Take Rossi! Take Casamatta
He is a great teacher!!! knows what he is talking about and is soooo helpful. just go to class EVERY day and take good notes because everything comes from notes.
I LOVEEEEEEE HIM!! he is so smart and such a good teacher like no joke. just seriously review your notes for a few days and you are sure to pass his test are multiple choice its not too bad!
He's so great. His lectures are very informative. You have 4 exams (including the final). He drops the lowest grade. The exams are all 50 multiple choice questions. You never have to open the textbook because he tests directly off his lecture notes. No surprises on the tests either. Not a very hard class.
Dont even know what going to be on the exams...not asking you to spoon feed just give a sista some leeway...
Rossi teaches very well! The class is pretty tuff and I suggest studying alot cause there can be some suprise questions on the exams. Overall a very good class.
doesnt use the text book at all, BIO 1 AND 2 USE THE SAME TEXTBOOK. i returned my book after bio 1 because i didnt use it at all but bio 2 calls for the same text, so dont sell it, i'm out $170. class is pretty tough, straight from the notes, show up every day and take em, pretty straight forward, some test questions make you think twice though.
Fantastic professor! Class attendance is not mandatory but go and take good notes. Everything that is on the tests comes straight from notes that he writes on the board. Pay attention to the math, graphs, and diagrams as they will be on the tests.
Exams are so hard. I went everyday and took notes and studied for hours and failed every exam.
MOST STRESSFUL CLASS EVER! You MUST go to every lecture because tests are directly from lecture. I studied for days for each test and always got D's
Very nice guy always re-explains things when needed. Not a good idea to miss class because you'll miss needed notes. Exams were all based off of the notes, DON'T buy the textbook! You don't open it at all he told us to use it as a doorstop.
Rossi is one of the best professors I have ever had. Science majors will find his class so easy its almost annoying. A student who will go to every class and take good notes will absolutely love this class and get a decent grade. He is a great guy who is very passionate about science, knows a lot of interesting facts, and cares a lot about students
Best teacher ever. Very knowledgeable about Biology. Just take notes, he doesn't use the book and all the tests come from the notes taken in class. Very straightforward and pretty awesome. Definitely take this professor
Professor Rossi is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about and writes all of the notes on the board. Don't bother buying the book because all his test material comes from his notes. If you take good notes and go to class you will pass.
Great Professor! I would recommend taking him for Bio 1. Everything comes straight from the notes so you have to go to class. However if you go to class you will pass! He lets you drop one exam which is very helpful.
Rossi is a great teacher with really awesome long hair :) He explains things well and likes to teach. Go to class, take notes, don't bother to buy the text, he doesn't use it. TAKE ROSSI!! AWESOME!!
Ecology. Wish i could take all my classes with him. No BS and fair tests. recommended
He's a great teacher. Passionate about what he does which really shows. Exams are all from his notes, he doesnt use powerpoints so its good to go to class everyday. He drops an exam which is helpful. Overall a good guy, I just dont have interest in Bio so its hard but doable.
His class is not the easiest class. However he is extremely helpful if you don't understand something. He quite funny too.I would highly recommend taking his class.
Excellent professor. Exams are difficult but he's laid back and very approachable, so seek help if you need it. Funny, passionate about his subject which makes the class interesting and enjoyable. Attendance not mandatory, but go to class for his notes as stated by other students. All around nice guy and outstanding teacher.
He knows his stuff extremely well! if you go to every class and write down all his notes and STUDY. you will be fine! I studied very hard and got an A, and Im not the brightest student out there. just dont be lazy, dont wait till the day before the test either, too much info to cram.
I had him for Ecology. It was a very easy class. The book really wasn't necessary. The tests were based on lecture, which had a slow pace because he writes out definitions and such on the board. His handwriting can be terrible, but he repeats himself a lot to make sure you get the important concepts. He's pretty funny and laid-back.
Great professor. Exams are based on what he taught in lecture, so make sure to take good notes in class. Didn't have to use the textbooks much. Tests are fairly easy and there are no homework. Very easy to understand and good at explaining difficult concepts. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Highly recommended. 10/10 would take again!
He's a good professor but moves fast. He tends to assume everyone understands the material within seconds. I am taking the class again to have a better knowledge of the material... with a different professor.
He was awesome. It was my second time taking biology after dropping the previous term. He made it so easy to understand. He's also an easy guy to talk to if you have questions. No quizzes, just five tests. Final is optional too. And plus lab grade that make up final grade. I would recommend him to anyone. He is my favorite bio teacher by far
Professor Rossi is very knowledgeable of the content. Exams are based off purely on notes, so go to his class! Study=guarantted to pass!Textbook is not required at all, but I advise anyone in bio lab to have that text book! (very helpful for postlabs and bio papers!!!)
GREAT professor. Show up to every class and write down everything. His tests are strictly from the notes in class. There are 4 tests and he drops the lowest one. STUDY STUDY STUDY for EVERY test and you will have no problem passing. I am awful at science and I enjoyed and passed this class no problem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
A GREAT professor. He loves the field of biology and this is clearly shown. Take copious notes in his class and study everything he covers in lecture and you will make an A for sure. If you are not one to show up to classes do not take him,you will not learn from a textbook he doesn't recommend you even to buy one, just use your notes to study from.
Rossi makes the class very interesting and he's a really nice guy. However, I didn't receive any grades back until the class before the final. Had to retake it mainly because I was unsure of what I needed to work on. Doesn't use Bb or email. Don't even bother buying the textbook. I never even opened mine.
Dr. Rossi is a fantastic teacher, if you want to actually large something about ecology and not just skate by with an easy A, take him! He is also very opinionated, if you are very religious I would not take him. Personally, I think it is funny. Do not skip! He drops 1 test, which can be the final. 4 tests total are taken in the class. Do not skip
Entomology can be pretty tough, it has a lot of information and a short time to cover it. You are required to turn in a student collection, do not procrastinate! The tests are straight forward, study the material he covers in the class. Do not worry about the textbook. He drops your lowest test score, including the final. 4 tests total are given.
One of my favorite biological sciences professors. His exams are very thorough but you should have no problem in his classes as long as you study the info he gives in class. If he writes it on the board, it should be in your notebook. He's an excellent professor with a passion for what he does. Highly recommended!
I took him for gen bio, he was very excited about the subject. Does a good job at describing information. Make sure you pay attention in class his tests are from the lectures. He doesnt require a book, no homework. Gives 4 tests and drops the lowest. Definitely recommend!
Very hard to take notes and understand where the lecture is going to sometimes and the test covers very small details found in lecture.
He seems to really love ecology, which makes the student become more engaged. Lectures are written on a blackboard. 4 tests with one drop test. He has a humor too, good professor!
Dr. Rossi is a great instructor. Do not bother cracking open the textbook. All of his tests stem from his notes. An A is definitely attainable.
Does not use the book! Has his own lecture material. If you skip class, you definitely won't pass the exams since they are from lecture. I recommend recording lecture while taking notes, just incase you miss something. His hand writing is terrible (uses chalk board). No homework, Final exam is optional.
Do not buy the textbook, his tests are strictly lecture based. If you attend class, study, and take notes, you will do fine on the tests.
Nice guy. Test tricky, but right to the point. Tests were multiple choice, definitions, essays, stat math problems. Very hard to get an A. essays and math prob count fifteen pts ea Takes points off here and there. He was very approachable. If having issues go see him and ask help asap. 4 test total, 1 drop test. Thats all there is. no hw etc.
I took Rossi for Gen bio and found him to be a great teacher. Bio isnt easy but his lectures were very clear and everything on his tests were discussed in depth during class. Would definitely recommend over other Bio teachers at UNF.
Professor is amazing, Ive had him for two courses and if I could would take him again. Drops lowest test grade and if you come to class, take notes, and study your notes its an easy Pass. He is very excited about the subjects he teaches and makes you just as excited to listen to him!!!
Dr. Rossi was tough don't get me wrong but he really worked to make it easy to understand and fun. Doesn't take attendance but don't skip classes since he doesn't go by the book. Drops your lowest test grade. Can move pretty fast but will slow down if asked so don't be afraid to speak up. Won't test on material not covered in lecture.
I hate Ecology, but Dr. Rossi somehow made it fun with his lectures. He is funny, and he writes everything you need to know for the exam on the board. Rewriting his notes helped a lot. Make a list of scientists and their accomplishments he talked about. Practice math problems like solving life tables and any other equations he writes on the board.
I've taken Dr. Rossi for entomology, ecology, conservation biology, and now plant anatomy and physiology. Dr. Rossi is an awesome teacher and I would take him if you have the opportunity. Plant A&P was a tough course and he did expect a lot of you, but you will learn a LOT. The college needs a general botany course as introduction.
Took Rossi for Ecology. He is possibly one of the best teachers at UNF. Test consisted of MC, definitions, and short answer. Go to class every day, take notes on most of what he writes on the board and you will pass with an A. This class is not as hard as people make it out to be. He is super nice and friendly too! Ask him questions, if needed!
Dr. Rossi is by far the best professor at UNF. His classes are easy if you show up and take notes. Very knowledgeable about subject matter!!
No totally honest with us!
Let me start off by saying this: do NOT buy the textbook. You won't use it. Rossi goes by his own agenda, and the majority of the things he lectures won't correlate with the book. Now, let me say this- he is the BEST science professor I have had so far. His lectures are clear and precise, his tests are legit copies of his lecture and he cares.
Dr. Rossi is a great teacher to attend lectures for. He puts a lot of effort into his teaching, knows what he is talking about, and also answers anyone's questions if someone is having trouble. Only 4 grades in class - for the 4 tests. Easy but hard at the same time. One downfall is his handwriting is bad, and goes too fast when asking for question
Professor Rossi is great for general biology. He writes on the board so sit up front so you can read his handwriting. He comes to class well prepared and keeps it interesting with his witty comments. There are four tests but he drops one. Come to class and take notes or you won't pass. He never uses the book so just study his notes and you'll pass.
If you go to every lecture, take good notes, and study for the tests you'll do fine. Rossi does a very good job at explaining complex concepts.
I highly recommend that you go to the SI sessions, and take REALLY good notes. Also, finding someone to study with is almost necessary to make sure that you aren't forgetting anything. He only uses the chalkboard, no lecture notes, and no power points. His exams cover the big topics and also some of the random stuff and his handwriting is terrible.
Rossi is a great teacher. His notes are the test so just study that. No textbook is required so don't buy it. Literally just memorize the notes.
I really enjoyed his class. He's friendly, really knows what he's talking about. He won't move on in the material if you don't understand and he's really helpful during office hours. Go to class because he gives little facts that do show up on the test. No book needed. No homework.
Professor Rossi is such an amazing teacher, the best lecturer I've had. His lectures are hilarious and he explains the material very clearly. You do need to attend class and take very good notes in order to pass, but all in all, 10/10 recommend.
His class is based off notes entirely. If you don't take good notes you will not pass. I found his tests hard and studied a lot. Go to SI sessions!! He does know what he is talking about though. He speaks REALLY fast and his handwriting is awful.
He's a great professor, he definitely knows his stuff. He is old school and writes on the chalkboard and the tests are based on his notes. I studied my really good notes and I could pass but was difficult to get high grades.
Only graded by 4 tests, which are difficult and based only on what he talks about in class so you need to show up. Specifically says not to use the book because it will only confuse us and he doesn't work from it. He's a cool dude and does his best to explain things in detail but often goes off on unrelated tangents with too much detail.
One of my favorite professors. Test come from his lectures, so you never have to read the textbook. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes the subject enjoyable, especially if biology is not your favorite. Take his class!
Dr. Rossi is a wonderful lecturer. He makes it very clear that the tests are from the lectures, so bring a recorder, take good notes, and you'll be set. It takes work to get a good grade, but he's a fantastic teacher and very excited about the material. Very much enjoyed his class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. The only negative is his handwriting. But he will admit its bad and has no problem repeating what he wrote if you ask. Best Lectures i've ever had.
his tests are based entirely on the lectures (not any textbook), but thankfully his lectures are dope. I came in with a bunch of basic bio knowledge (5 on AP Bio exam), but still learned plenty from him, and wasnt bored by his lectures. i just think its funny whenever he starts talking about intelligent design bc he is vehemently against it lulul
Rossi was an amazing professor who really knew what he was teaching about. His tests were all multiple choice and were based directly from his notes. YOU MUST TAKE NOTES, there are no power points or handouts! His hand writing is also very hard to read so sit as close to the board as possible. You must study or you won't pass.
Changed my major conc. because of him! Hand written notes with no canvas but he's so engaging it was hard to not stay focused. Must show up to class for notes. Would recommend recording too. Very nice guy and tests are based strictly on notes so you know exactly what to study. Gives lots of examples and clearly knows what he's taking about :D
Rossi is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable about all of the topics he covers and even goes off on some tangents with other facts. His tests are directly from his notes/lectures so you need to take detailed notes. I even recommend voice recording his lectures. Overall, he is tough, but very interesting.
Rossi is an amazing professor and you can tell he really cares about biology. the only grades are 4 tests and he drops the lowest.
Amazing teacher who is very passionate about biology. Everything he says can and will be on a test so dont skip class. 10/10 would recommend. The best part is you dont need a book, I got by without it, but it cant hurt to have.
Take Rossi!!! He is such an interesting guy and will keep you engaged throughout all of his lectures. Don't skip class because he only does hand written notes and does not use power points or canvas. His tests are very straight forward and you know what will be on them.
Dr. Rossi is a great lecturer and all the information you need comes straight from his notes so don't waste your money on a book. The only assignments for the whole class are four tests that were all pretty easy and one gets dropped. Could have done with less of his creationism bashing but an overall very good teacher.
Rossi knows what he's talking about and his tests are very straight forward from the lectures. Be aware that he lectures very fast and does not use any material other than a chalkboard. No powerpoints or reviews before tests. Textbook not needed at all.
Youre grades on four exams, with one dropped. As long as you show up to class and take good notes, you will pass. Just make sure you spend time studying, as the exams come straight from the lecture. Dont bother trying to simply memorize everything, you need to understand the concepts if you want to pass the exams.
He was a great lecture professor! However he was not good for lab. Unclear with directions and you never know what to expect. An unnecessarily harsh grader and doesnt answer questions about the labs. Weirdly, his ecology lab ended up being one of my hardest classes. Definitely take him for lecture but take someone else for lab if you can.
His lectures are very detailed and easy to understand!
I loved Professor Rossi for Gen Bio 1. His lectures were very dense, but fun to watch. They were also recorded and optional over zoom, which I appreciated. The only grades in his class are exams and he drops your lowest one. He makes lots of time for questions and his exams are exactly the lectures. Make sure you find a way to take good notes.
Best Professor Ive had! Dr. Rossis exam questions are derived strait from his shorter lectures, and quiz questions that are posted on canvas. There is no guessing what will be on each exam which was great. No textbook is needed. Dr. Rossi knows the subject very well, and he will absolutely help you understand it if you apply yourself!
Dr. Rossi is very knowledgeable. He won't hesitate to answer any questions. His lectures are packed with material, but he gives all the information you need for the exams. Make sure to take good, thorough notes and have a good study method, because this class is only graded on three tests, plus lab.
Absolutely fantastic! His lectures are very packed with information, but if you take detailed notes and understand the material you will ace the exams. He gives 4 exams and drops the lowest one and that is the entirety of your grade (minus the lab grade). The text book is not required and he gives you all the information you need for the test.
Your grade consists of your three best exams for 75% of the grade, and your bio lab grade for 25% of the grade. Dr. Rossi was amazing. He explained everything well and displayed his passion for biology vividly. The tests are directly from the chapter review quizzes (not for a grade) and directly from lecture (both written on board and what is said)
Sit in the front in order to read the board and pay attention to scientist and their achievements. He does not use canvas so what he says is what youll be tested on. 4 tests and 1 is dropped those are your only grades.
His handwriting is TERRIBLE. You must sit in the front to see it. if you dont pay attention and write down everything and study you wont pass.
Dr. Rossi is very passionate about ecology and gives great lectures. HOWEVER, his handwriting sucks, EVERYTHING is fair game (even the littlest things), and he is VERY picky with grading. I swear, at this point I have been putting definitions verbatim & he still takes off 0.5 points ._. Pro: the final is optional & non-cumulative. Have fun.
ANYTHING ON THE BOARD IS FAIR GAME, I mean anything. Even if you think he is writing something on the board as a part of conversion/ tangent IT WILL BE ON THE TEST. Other than that, hes a great professor. Writes all notes on the board. Study the notes and youll be set for exams.
Rossi is a really dedicated teacher, however, outside of class, there is no help. You must create your own study guides/techniques and there is no homework to help. He can talk extremely fast so turn off your phone and pay attention, write down everything.
TAKE NOTES! His lecture materials are exactly like the test so make sure you have a good note taking strategy. I got Bs on all his exams but I do wish I knew how to study a bit more at the beginning of his course so I could get an A. He’s a good lecturer but some of my friends say he was a bit dismissive when coming to office hours.
Four grades, three tests and your lab. That's it. Anything he says in lectures will show up on the tests. If you don't have a clear basis of the fundamentals of bio heading into this class, it will be extremely challenging. He is passionate about the topic, but the way the material is taught is difficult to understand.
4 exams, 1 drop. No cumulative final. No other assignments at all. All notes are written on chalk board and EVERYTHING is fair game. (Especially pay attention to graphs, axes, units and any scientist he mentions and what they did). Dr. Rossi is cool hippy weed type guy. Intense lecturer but you usually get out early. Memorize and you will get an A.
Dr. Rossi only has 4 exams with one drop. No quizzes, no homework. Don't be afraid to ask question, but only after class because he might not respond to an email. You also have to calculate your own grade bc he doesn't use Canvas or Blackboard. As long as you take good notes and go to SI sessions, you should be able to pass on the first try.
Had to come to lecture to get the notes and he doesn't use canvas. Only way to get grade in the class in through 4 exams where 1 is dropped. Lots of memorization. Kind of hard to see the board, cause he writes in chalk and has low-key cursive handwriting.
I took Dr. Rossi because of his good reviews, but I really disliked his class. The grade is only based on performances in exams and he grades very harshly. Everything he says in lecture is fair game for the exam and half the time you can't understand what he writes on the board even in the first row because his handwriting is horrendous.
Anytime you ask a question he seems to be in defense even though you are very confused with his teaching. If anything he shouldn't be qualified as a professor but maybe as a staff member. He's smart, but he should be in the background because getting information from him is not easy. Didn't know your grade until the end of the entire course.
wont take with him
Loved Rossi but his exams omg! I could never get an A on an exam bc a question would equal so many points. Ask for examples of calc questions that are going to be on exam. This would have helped me so much.
Talks way too fast when teaching so you never understand him since he goes at his own pace. His handwriting is difficult to read since it's in cursive. His exams are based on his lectures. Only way to pass is to attend SI and take good notes if you understand the material he goes over.
Awesome Professor! Highly Recommend! He does talk fast, but will stop to answer questions. Will help during office hours. There are only 4 tests for the grade, but he drops the lowest score. It is a "weed out" class, so study and go to the SI sessions. There is a textbook, but it's not required and it's free.
Amazing, I don't get all the bad reviews. Prof Rossi is knowledgeable and first day he restates that there's no need for a textbook. Most answers from his lectures. I took this back in 2020 online but he posted quiz questions which 80% were on the exam, so that was like a free 10-20 point boost. Epitome of an educator.
Those who complain abt his writing + fast speech are those who dont ask Dr. Rossi to repeat himself. He'll gladly take the time to do it. He encourages it. Want an A? STUDY DIRECTLY FROM NOTES! Write questions off ALL NOTE DETAILS and test urself till u can get em down in a jiff. Don't waste ur time goin on random quizlets. Didnt need SI either.
Good lectures, however ALOT of information will be thrown at you. Make sure to study your notes and write down every little detail he says, as well as diagrams(theyll help you understand better). No homework or classwork just (4)exams (one will be dropped). Utilize the SI sessions. He will make little jokes from time to time and its fun
Mr. Rossi moves quickly through the material but is fully willing to answer any questions. (Sometimes with humor). As someone with severe ADHD, he kept my rapt attention through most lectures - relating the material to relevant topics for the students. If you don't understand, then ASK. If you can't in the lecture, ask after class. Overall best guy
funny professor but lectures are him speaking and writing on the chalkboard (no powerpoint) so get a good seat. only does 4 exams, drops the lowest grade (no hw or quizzes). anything he says in lecture is fair game for the exam. i suggest you record his lectures and play them back to study and also go to SI (it helps a lot when reviewing material).
No homework, no textbook. Advisor was worried abt passing bio 1 bc it is typically a difficult class but rossi makes it easy. Test are straight from his lecture, take good notes and you will pass the tests.
Dr. Rossi was the worst teacher I've ever had. Talks so fast, only uses the chalkboard, and writes in chicken scratch. He does not use canvas or powerpoints. You have to calculate your grade yourself only based off 4 extremely difficult exams. There is no homework or extra credit and only one SI time offered so if you cant go, your'e screwed.
Usually an entertaining guy, grade is based on 3 (of 4) tests. Taking good notes of everything he says and puts on the board (iffy?) and memorizing is how to pass. SI can also help- but that's more of building off of good foundations from lectures. Don't skip lectures often or at least be able to get the knowledge from a peer. RIP bad test takers.
I'd give this professor a higher rating if he didn't constantly say "I got through biology in college by taking notes, and then after class, rewriting them", while scribbling illegibly and very fast on the chalkboard and erasing the notes before you can even write them down. Not very friendly and extremely test heavy with all things considered.
He is very comprehensive. As long as you take notes and practice the math he shows you in class, studying for his tests aren't so bad. He is a super tough grader. He had an attitude problem (super snippy to students sometimes), but he is the best lecturer I've had in a while so I'm not complaining too much. He is ANTI canvas though.
He doesn't use PowerPoints or put grades into Canvas. He won't write everything down and might not make it clear that something is important, so make sure to record his lectures to catch anything missed in class. He's really picky with wording so remember definitions word for word. An A isn't super hard though if you put in the work.
He does not use canvas or a textbook, and his lectures just consist of him explaining the topics himself and writing certain points on the board. Though his class may seem difficult, it's important to note he is very good at explaining everything. Just take good notes, show up to class, ask questions and you'll be fine
This course involves 4 exams (lowest exam dropped) for 75% of lecture grade, 25% for lab. All lecture material is fair game. No canvas or textbook is used, so attending lectures crucial. Tips for getting an A: audio record lectures, take thorough board notes, and sit near the front. He's a fair and amazing professor, I'd gladly take him again.
This professor was extremely knowledgable but the test were insanely hard. I went to SI groups and studied for hours on end and still never got anything above a D on a test. He also does his lectures on a chalkboard and his handwriting is illegible. Overall very difficult class.
Does not assign homework and does not give study guides or lecture notes. You have to take notes on ur own and attendance is mandatory if you want to get those notes. He only grades you based off 4 exams and drops one. Don't take this class if you find it hard to memorize things and understand weirdly worded exam questions.
I suggest recording lectures (audio or video). Everything in the lecture matters (written and spoken). No textbook. 4 tests lowest 1 dropped, no other assignments. No extra credit. Handwriting may be messy but sit close and don't be afraid to ask what he wrote. He's passionate about the material and good at teaching it. Attend SI for review
He provides no textbook, PowerPoints, study guides. He uses a chalk board and has the worst handwriting ever! You have to attend lecture to get what he writes on the board. 4 exams but your lowest score is dropped. The SI he provided wasn't helpful at all. Take someone else if you can.
4 exams, drops 1. Class consist of basic lectures but definitely attend or get the notes and make sure to understand them. SI may or may not be helpful, except they provided practice exams before the test which is worth it! Class usually ends 10-20 minutes early.
He's an okay professor . He definitely shows biased towards certain students.
Dr. Rossi does not provide PowerPoint lectures, extra credit, or any homework for this class, so if you're a biology or any health science major, then you are screwed for General Biology 1. A good professor provides homework to raise grades, PowerPoints, and other resources. Although I studied, I failed my first test. I hope I pass this class.
Horrible teacher DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT AN AUDIO LEARNER He is extremely big on embarrassing students in front of the class He does not provide homework, slides, extra credit, NOTHING other than the 4 exams and tells you NOT to refer to the book. He does not let you go over the exam, he just reads off the answers without showing you DO NOT TAKE
I would only recommend his class if you're a good test taker. If you know you'll need PowerPoints, homework assignments, etc., to make up your exam grades do not take this class. If you are a good test taker this class is perfect because you pass the first three exams, and you pretty much don't need to attend class for the rest of the semester.
This professor has a unique teaching style - lectures are all on the chalkboard with no textbook or slides. Attendance is a must to keep up. Utilize unstuck AI and practice exams for study prep, as the tests can be challenging. Overall, a solid class if you put in the work.
Professor Rossi is a great person, but if you aren't the strongest at biology, do NOT take him. He only uses chalk and a chalkboard, his handwriting is not the neatest (he will reread anything for you), and your only grades are the exams. I had a hard time understanding in the beginning and then after the first exam, everything went downhill.
Worst professor ever. Absolutely can not stand this class. No homework, assignments, or power points. Your grade is based on 4 exams that are hard and very rude to students that ask questions. Has horrible handwriting and only writes with chalk on a chalk board. Just do not take this class with him.
Overall, this professor does the job. Your grade is only made up of 3 exams. We take 4 and the final is non-cumulative. So, if you're not a good test taker, I wouldn't recommend. There is no homework or study guides. As long as you show up to class, take good notes, pay attention, and study, you should have no problem.
Bad professor! If you have him as your lab instructor be prepared to be rushed. My lab was taking a practical in class that was 1 hour and 50 minutes; he only gave us 50 of that time, when we asked to check the other stations for answers we missed he went on to say "There's no way you guys need this much time for this exam, it's not that hard."
i think hes an okay teacher, its just that his handwriting is kinda shit on the chalkboard. some times i get scared to ask questions because hes kinda rude about it but its fine overrall. just go to class and take good notes. i would record lectures as well!! make sure to pass at least 3 exams, lab and youll be good
If you miss a lecture you will not be able to get any notes for it, he doesn't use PowerPoint, strictly chalkboard; be there every day. His handwriting is kinda bad, but he repeats it so it's fine; recommend sitting more upfront. I guarantee almost every single detail he talks about in lecture is on the test, which is both bad and good.
Dr. Rossi is a very to the point professor, he writes major things down on the board as he talks and then gives 4 exams throughout the semester, 1 of which gets dropped. If you take notes on most things he says and attend classes you'll do just fine with no work outside of class required other than to study.
My advise is to type lecture notes on a computer and definitely 100% record lectures. Before a test I liked to rewrite my notes with the audio recording and study every unit. Everything on the exam will be said in class. He goes off track sometimes, but he is very funny and interesting
You will want to take audio recordings of lectures and write your notes. There will be diagrams and it's a lot easier to get the concept down by drawing it. His handwriting isn't the best but if you ask he will repeat what he wrote. Flashcards and drawing/writing things down on a whiteboard helped me pass this class. Tests are 50 multiple choice.
He is very visual and draws on the board alot. You only have to worry about what he directly says in class. I had him for lab too and he was easy to understand. You will need to ask him to read what he wrote though, his handwriting is a mix of cursive and print, and from far away is hard to read. Only grades are 4 exams, 1 will be dropped.
Chill dude, you will need to be there to pass the class. The course is fine if you seek yt videos and what not to study. Rossi is a great professor and it is interesting to see his enthusiasm as he teaches. I enjoyed having him throughout the semester. You have to study topics outside of class to get good grades on tests.
He was good for sure but difficult for sure.
He talks super fast, and you can't understand his writing. So you have to completely lock in an record the lectures and actually teach yourself out side of class. I couldn't learn in class. He also goes off topic a lot then continues in other random topics. I couldn't follow the class and I had no like actual material online to study. Or no papers.
I don't know why he's rated so well first day of class he brags about how his class has a 56% fail rate. Exams have a 50% mean score and he's happy with that. He teaches like you already basically know the info. Isn't clear on what material is on the exams. Talks super fast and has bad handwriting. Just don't take this class has no remorse for kids
Would not recommend him for lower level classes such as biology. But for higher level classes such as ecology and conservation biology he is amazing. Writes all of his lectures on the chalk board and everything he writes is straightforward and on the exam. If u attend lecture and take all the notes you will get an easy B or A.
he is very knowledgeable guy for sure but he does not have any power points and the class is just 4 tests…one of them is dropped tho. his handwriting is HORRIBLE and he gets mad if you ask questions so i would recommend recording lectures. Make sure u do good in lab since its so test heavy and u have to be locked in the whole class to get everythin
Professor Rossi primarily relies on the chalkboard during lectures and does not use Canvas, presentation slides nor textbooks. His handwriting and explanations are difficult to follow, and he can get frustrated when students ask for clarification. Recording lectures is often necessary to keep up as the class becomes more challenging.
Professor Rossi relies entirely on the chalkboard, no slides, textbook, or Canvas. His handwriting is extremely difficult to read, and he becomes frustrated when students ask for clarification. With only four assignments, grades can swing dramatically, and lectures move fast, making recording almost essential to keep up.
Attendance is optional but if you miss, you may as well fail so.."optional." He is VERY fast and while he is super smart and explains things thoroughly, it is not in a helpful manner at all. NO study material, just your notes from lecture and that is if you can even write anything down fast enough or read his writing. 4 exams, no other grades.
Only uses the chalkboard, and his handwriting is very difficult to read, even when sitting in the front of the room. Gets very frustrated whenever questions are asked. Very fast-paced; the only way I retained any information was by recording the lectures and listening back. Exams are very hard, and they are 100 percent of your grade apart from lab.
He only uses a chalkboard, no Canvas, PowerPoint, or textbook, and his handwriting is hard to read. Even from the front, it's difficult to follow. He teaches very quickly and gets impatient when students ask questions. Exams are tough, and the only study materials are your own lecture notes.
Very bad handwriting
He uses no canvas and no power point. Only a chalkboard and his handwriting that is impossible to read. The class only has 4 grades and they are all exams. He did give a couple of free points per exam but not enough to make up for how bad did
At the start of the semester he said he would've rather been a chemistry professor so although it's biology his lectures are heavily chemistry based. No PowerPoints only a chalkboard. If you miss a day of class you will most likely fail. Thought this class would have been easier with his reviews but no.
To begin with I thought I would like his class being that he gives lectures very well. He mentioned to us that the class average is a D at the beginning of the semester. Rossi does not give PowerPoint or study materials. It is all lecture base and if you're not in class to hear him, say it or mutter under his breath, then you'll fail the exam
Dr. Rossi is smart and knowledgeable in his field, but his teaching method isn't incredible. He is able to lecture very well, and if you take good notes, you'll be alright. However, he is fast paced and his handwriting is terrible. He doesn't provide slideshows or any other study material, so you have to solely rely on your notes to pass.
Not a good teacher what so ever. He writes on a chalkboard and his handwriting is illegible. I strongly don't recommend.
Four exams are your only grade. He tangents on in lectures and gets side tracked. No lectures online, just what is on the chalkboard... yes CHALKBOARD. If you know how to study and can dedicate yourself your semester to the class you will do good. Odd man but you grow to love him even if you are failing.
I struggled all semester no matter how much I studied. He focuses heavily on the chemistry portion and even tells you not to use the textbook. He offers no real resources besides optional tutoring, and only teaches from what he writes on the whiteboard. If you want to pass, take someone else.
Only graded by 3 exams (4 total/1 dropped) but it's not hard to pass as long as you do these things: 1 pay attention 2 take notes on EVERYTHING (written and spoken) 3 study ALL of your notes Literally all of the exam content comes from his lectures (no ppts) so show up and lock in. He's extremely disrespectful and rude, but not hard if you study.
He talks and scribbles on the chalkboard so quickly and everything said is fair game for exams. TAKE NOTES OF EVERYTHING (record lectures&listen back to them). 100% go to class!! Don't get me wrong he seems very knowledgeable in the field his teaching was just very poor. Unless you're naturally good at bio/have background it's quite a challenge.
I loved this class! Dr. Rossi gives great lectures. You are only graded on four exams, the lowest of which is dropped, and the material is based on what he discusses during class. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended since the lecture itself is the only resource provided. He can be a little brash, but overall, I would recommend his class!
