The worst History Teacher, if there ever was one. If you have sense, aviod Him!
good lecture style, very informative, tests were pretty easy
One of if not the most intelligent professors at the University

good if you like History
Great class in the summer
He was a great professor.Have to go to his class and take notes. He's so smart!
INCREDIBLY NICE; just take notes and youll be fine; man is a GENIUS!
If you want to learn about fat kids deal with life then take the class

Great professor! Caring and easy to talk to.
boring boring boring boring. this is the only adjective to describe him
Boring class, but good teacher with very easy tests and very helpful
class is boring but his tests are easy...he is very knowledgable
AWESOME Lecturer. Very entertaining with stories that relate to subject matter.

He is a wonderfully intelligent man who tells great stories that relate to the class. Take lots of notes and ask for help if you do not understand. Great summer class!
Hard as hell. Smart guy but his class is no joke. way too much information for a human to remember. avoid if you can.
Dr. Santoro is extremely smart about everything! The class was great, with lots of details. He tells great stories, too.

Tests are extremely hard. Questions on trivial people or places not stressed upon by teacher or book.
Nice Old man , but wants us to remember way to much stuff. Tests aren't to bad if you take good notes and study hard. Hope you like to write , becuse that man likes to talk.
Ive had a series of good history teachers and Prof. Santoro is by far the greatest. His lectures are interesting, his stories of his own life are amusing, and he has excentric input.
He's a genious, too smart to be teaching. He knows too much, so he expects you to be right up there with him. Hard to study for his tests, you don't know what to expect. If you pay attention, you learn a lot though. BIG stickler on grammar and spelling.
Dr. Santoro is sooo smart, but also very down to earth. And he is so sweet and helpful! You can tell he is passionate about what he does, and wishes for everyone to do well. While his test questions are a little obscure, the class is overall enjoyable.
His neoconservative point of view is a bit much. Sometimes his information is very factual, but at other times he leaves out a few factual errors.
Really cool guy. Rambles a bit in lectures, but his stories are really funny and increadibly random. Tests really aren't that bad, he'll give you a list of words and inserts and as long as you know those words/names and the events around them, you're good
The best friggin professor on campus, he really is. Absolute genious! Your prob gonna have some trouble on the tests, make sure dont JUST study the study guides, whether you pass or fail you will come out of that class so much smarter than u were b4.
Great if you like lectures. Terrible for tests. His tests don't cover all the important information. Most questions are on little unimportant details which no one remembers. STAY AWAY!
rambles... a lot-makes some funny jokes - all lecture, class attendance isnt mandatory-which is good-tests arent bad as long as you know everything on the study guides - even then, some of the questions r obscure- and u have to have the class notes, a lot of whats on the tests isnt even in the book
Very smart man. Definitely need to take notes in this class, for the tests. He is also extremely picky about grammer and spelling. He makes history really interesting and sometimes even funny. I enjoy his class.
If you like a challenge, take him. He is very smart, I took him for 3 semesters. Laptop is best for this class with all his lectures. Highly recommend for the motivated students or those that want to actually learn, because you will.
extremely hard
His test are really hard and you have to take good notes in his class to do well.
He tests usually don't consist of what he went over in class. Good grades are based on luck. If you can't spell don't even think about taking this class.
A major flaw in Santoro's teaching methods is his habit of going off-topic so many times. Ancient Egypt has nothing to do with Mao or Stalin where he states inaccurate "facts" of them anyway. Must improve students on how to write papers because he is vague when it comes to paper structure.
Extremely smart, does ramble but is interesting and funny. Tests are hard, usually all essay with the hardest parts being short essays on the texts. He's lightened up over the years so he's not as hard as he once was. While attendance isn't mandatory, if you want to pass you should try to attend.
He is so rude. On the first day of class he yelled at this girl and kicked her out of class because she was smiling. I didn't find him very helpful and he put to sleep almost very class. Don't take him.
wow... didn't know people this horrible and stuck and self-richous existed. stay away from him, and his nasty dorm hall.
I wrote a perfect paper once- but he took off 11 points because when I underlined the title of a book, I also underlined the spaces inbetween the words which is what you're supposed to do, honestly he needs to get a life, I learned more about how he was beat up as a kid then about history
Hard to describe. He quite possibly might be the rudest teacher I have met. He is blunt & if you rub him the wrong way he will tear you apart & embarress you. But he's a genious. If you care at all about learning in history you will choose this man. Go to class, listen, & STUDY & you will be fine.
This guy sucks
Santoro is the worst professor i have had at cnu. He doesn't teach, he just rambles about nothing and then gives test essays on a topic that is so specific you can't write about it. He thinks he is so great and perfect and I agree that he can be rude. when he grades you can't read the comments.
Interesting profesor, he has all sorts of interesting stories to tell, however they are not all on topic. Its kind of strange having a profesor who the building you live in is named after, but you get over it. His exams are hard, read the book
rambles...tests are definitely ridiculously hard and most of the time off topic. Once he asked an essay question that was not even covered on the study guide chapter. Thank GOd i'm transferring out of this school and just have to keep from failing.
comes off as a jerk and he kinda is (don't wear a hat to his class) and scares you the first day but i learned to like his class, if you have any intrest in history whatsoever you will find him ridiculously interesting. I loved going to his class. You gotta study but tests are structured the same
This guy is bittersweet. Stay on his good side. He's uber conservative, and very strict on the smaller things (will take points off for not putting your name in the right place, or underlining a title instead of italicizing, etc) so just pay attention and do exactly what he wants, to every seemingly insignificant detail. That said, I made an A.

I found that so long as you listened and wrote down every word he says in class, you do well on his tests. He usually asks off-the-wall questions that are only found in your notes, like name the greek word for 'equality.' He can be rude, but keep a low profile and bring a tape recorder and you'll be fine.
He's a difficult teacher...probably the hardest in the department. He is easy to listen to and he makes class interesting because he is funny and goes off on rants about little things, but nothing that is beneficial really. His tests are crucial and he doesn't put everything on the study guide that is on the test. Interesting, but a hard teacher.
Tests are really hard, study a lot and pay attention in class. Take notes on everything he says, even if it seems useless, he asks strange things on tests. Keeps class interesting, rants about odd things.
Hilarious. hard, but he spends half the time talking about random things. Funny guy- is intimidating at first, but is cool after a while.
This man takes pleasure in causing students pain. I haven't figured out why he is still employed. Maybe the golden parachute he gave himself when 'stepping' down as President. This man doesn't belong in a classroom. He has never published. He rejoices in his stupidity.
Very engaging teacher, very good. Gives you a lot of of background and side information. If you study, his tests aren't that hard.
i never went to class because all he does is ramble about nonrelated issues. if you use the study guides and read what you are supposed to you will do fairly well. he is a VERY hard grader!!!!! and he is not very clear.
Dr S is an awesome professor--extremely intelligent and basically knows everything about anything--but he's really difficult. I enjoy his class and I've learned a great deal, but I wouldn't have taken his Terrorism course if I knew it'd be so difficult. Not recommended for a freshman seminar.
He is an interesting guy, but his tests for my ULLC are ridiculously hard and he doesn't cover the material on most of the test. Everyone else is getting an easy A or B for their ULLC classes, but in his class I'm struggling with a C. A lot of people are failing. He refused to help me review for the final. Worst teacher I have ever had.
Do not take him for your ULLC classes. His teaching style seems to be set as many traps for you as possible. He is way too anal and class discussion is interesting and very intellectual but almost never on topic. 70% of my grade was 3 10 question tests that covered more than 385 pages of material. That's 30 random fact out of thousands.
He is very hard
By far the most difficult professor I have ever had. He is generally mean-spirited and, from what I have gathered, enjoys making students suffer. He does not teach class; instead, he assigns readings and has students present it to the class. I do not see the need for him to even be present at all. Honestly, he has no busniess being in a classroom.
He sometimes grades harsh, but if you turn in your paper early he gives a chance to revise. Attendence is not mandatory, but he has a lot of interesting things to say. It is easy to tell that he is passionate about what he teaches and he tries to relay that to the students. The class is not extremely easy, but not too hard if you try!
This is the honest truth about Santoro: If you are a student who regularly gets A's and B's in other courses, you will also get them here. Secret: HE LIVES BY THE SYLLABUS. Just do exactly what he asks, as you should anyways, and you will get A's. I did. My first 300 level college course, by the way. Way easier than what I was expecting.
I took him for 2 upper level hist classes and he's my advisor as well. He's one of my favorite people at CNU. He's easy to talk to once you realize he's not as intimidating as he seems. Coming into these courses, I expected to get by with a C, but I haven't gotten anything lower than an 80. He is very fair grader and gives easy exams.
he knows what he is talking about and is very smart, but his class is impossible. He expects you to know how to spell everything. His tests cover hundreds of pages of material. And when you write your paper, don't underline the spaces in between the words of the title or you get tons of points taken off.
Very intelligent, but the class is impossible unless you can read his mind. Avoid if you can.
Taking Santoro's class is a rite of passage for history majors. His classes are somewhat difficult, but damned amusing and worthwhile.
This class is what I dread every week. He's really smart, and knows almost everything history-wise, but as a teacher, he lectures in a "stream of consciousness" style, with no powerpoints or notes. Really hard to keep up. The tests are a joke: he basically picks random questions from the entire curriculum, you never know what to study for! HARD!
Santoro is the professor everyone avoids in the History Dept., but I don't understand why. He seems a bit intimidating at first, but if you are willing to work hard, and show interest in the topic, he is awesome. He will go out of his was to help with anything you are unclear on. He is by far one of my favorite history professors!
He is one of the smartest people i have ever met. I am not a good student 2.7 GPA and i got a B in his NAZI class. Your missing out big time if you dont take him while your at CNU. Very helpful and interesting guy. His bark is worse than his bite. He is the man!
Take one of his classes before you graduate. He incorporates tons of useful and often humorous outside information into his lectures. As for the difficulty, this is college, stupid people will struggle. Do no take if you are not able to write essays. Great American professor.
Dr. Santoro is by far one of the best professors at the university. Not only does he know everything about history, he really cares about his students and would help them succeed if the student tries their hardest. Big on respect and I would recommend him to every student interested in learning about history.
Santoro is a great professor and though he may seem kind of scary, he really isn?t at all once you take the time to talk to him. As long as you go to class, take good notes, and really take time to study them, this class isn?t too terrible. He is clear on the subject matter and he knows a vast amount about what he is teaching.
I LOVE Dr. Santor?s class! He made something I thought would be uninteresting and made it interesting! I love his humor and his side talks he had in class. I highly recommend him and will have another class with him before I graduate!
He was an interesting prof but, he would go off on really random tangents that would take up a good chunk of time in a class period. His Terrorism course is rough:you need to read a lot, the quizzes will be on ten random facts that need to be spelled perfectly from hundreds of pages. Great guy for a tour and has interesting stories but a hard prof.
This was an awesome class with an awesome professor. Santoro is probably one of the best professors I have had in 4 years at CNU. He is very helpful and will do anything he can to help you succeed. He has a reputation that is definitely NOT fitting. I will be taking more classes with him before I graduate and would recommend you do also!
Wow this guy is all over the place in his lectures, he wanders around different time periods and is easily off topic. His tests are the hardest ever because you never know what out of 1000 pages to study. Good luck if you take this class!
One of my favorite teachers ever. He is incredibly intelligent, and tells great stories. With the study guides, the tests really are not that hard.
Had him for 4 semesters, all upper-level history courses. Yes, he requires a lot of work, but he grades fairly. I never received a final grade lower than an A-. He is, in my opinion, the best professor in the department. Because of Dr. Santoro, I became a way better student than I ever thought I could. I highly recommend for majors.
He is a great lecturer but he has very hard tests and often the study guides don't have things you learned and he tests on random things.
Santoro is a great prof. If you like history befriend him and your stay will be much easier. He is extremely helpful if you reach out to him. If you are the average student that doesnt care, you are in for something else- he is excellent at putting you in your place. He loves to talk so let him, ask him questions, and learn!
I took his ULLC Terrorism class and it was no easy A. Worked my tail off for an A-. Attending class is a must. But unlike the easy cake courses you want to take just to boost your GPA, you will not learn as much. Dr. Santoro will teach you A LOT! He knows everything about history. He's the man. TAKE HIM!
I've never missed a class, I read the text, I take careful notes, I study and right now I have a B. Never in my life have I gotten such a low test grade and when I went to him to discuss it I was told my writing was great, I clearly knew the material and answered the essay, but "two pages isn't long enough and no one gets a perfect score".
Dr. Santoro was the worst teacher I have had in college. I am now a senior and have take over 120 credit hours already (so I have had my fair share of different teachers) so I know what a good teacher is, and it cannot be found in Santoro.Borderline **** jokes, mean, and believes in US dominance over other foreign powers. Ridiculous class overall
He makes his class a lot more difficult then it needs to be. DO NOT TAKE unless you are extremely good at writing. About 75% of the class is writing and he is an extremely hard grader.
He's extremely arrogant but knows what he's talking about for the most part. Be ready for alot of writing and tough grading
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Throughout my 4 years at CNU he is probably my FAVORITE history professor, and I took classes with all of them. He cares about his students and wants them to do well. PLEASE take Santoro if you have the chance.
Simply said, the man is brilliant. He doesn't like to give A's though (must get 98 or above to get full credit, but he doesn't believe in giving perfect scores). He's tough, but entertaining and knows his stuff. If you're a high achiever, you'll do well. Listening to his lectures is like listening to grandpa tell old stories. Makes ya want cookies.
I took Santoro for 4 upper level classes during my time at CNU. History majors will excel in his class. Lots of writing but it's pretty difficult to earn less than a 90 if you go talk to him about your papers. Will give you a temp grade if you turn paper in early, and will bump your grade up after you do corrections. Easy B's at worst. Great prof
Took one class with him, can be a little boring mainly because it was a 3hour class. Very knowledgable.
Dr. Santoro is the kind of professor that is willing to help any student who is willing to do their part. Dr. Santoro makes himself available during office hours and is happy to answer any questions. I am looking forward to taking another class with him next semester.
Dr. Santoro is without a doubt one of the most entertaining professors I've taken a class with. His ability to seamlessly integrate other periods of history or disciplines into his lecture makes them always relevant and always interesting. If you like listening to a speaker elaborate masterfully on a fascinating time in history, take this course.
At first, I wasn't interested in the course AT ALL! But I LOVED coming to class. He is VERY DETAILED and he allows you to turn in papers early to fix them by the time you have to turn the final copy in. The exams are made so you have to pay attention, but they are not unreasonable. I could have gotten a B, but I didn't take it seriously.
Santoro has an incredible mind and amount of intelligence. He talks faster than Busta Rhymes though when he is doing a lecture. Our first test in my class had about half the class fail. It was pretty bad. He also doesn't use powerpoints or Scholar so you can't re-cap. Would not recommend to a first-year.
Come to class. Turn work in early (can correct mistakes). Read directions and write in clear English. Pay attention and actually understand and be able to explain material. If you can do the above, you will do fine. Ended up with a B+, an A all the way up to the final. Exams are normally 2 questions, 50 pts each. He is not as intimating as he seems
HE IS AWESOME! He is my advisor and I have taken three of his upper level history classes. He is so helpful and truly enjoys what he teaches. He is by far the most interesting person I have ever met! If you put forth the effort in his class, you will succeed! He has high expectations for his students, but is extremely fair.
I took him for a class last semester and he was great. He has a great knowledge of history if a great personal take. His exams and papers are fair but he is a little bit of a tough grader. I also wish he was teaching more than one summer class
Had Santoro for 4 upper level history classes. I have to say, he was my favorite professor at CNU. He is not difficult. Turn your papers in early and he will give you a temp grade that will only go higher if you make corrections. It's a lot of writing, but if you are a halfway decent writer, it's easy. He's a nice guy too. Seriously.
Dr. Santoro is a very challenging professor. Do not expect to get an easy A out of his class. With that being said, his class is full of information..very interesting. It is like listening to grandpa tell stories about his experiences. I went to his office hours and he was very helpful in helping me prepare for the exam. Befriend him!
He is my favorite professor! He expects his students to be just that, STUDENTS. Every grade you receive, you have earned. I love his random tangents in the middle of a lecture. You will always learn something new from him. I'm extremely happy to have had Santoro a part of my college experience. (His classes are difficult though... be warned)
Dr. Santoro gets a lot of flack from the lower level classes, because they don't expect the workload. Anyone taking a higher level course should expect a decent amount of work. As a history major, I can attest that he gives a fair amount of work, and that he is a very fair grader. If you do your work, you'll do fine.
Santoro is awesome! He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students learning. He will look at your work early and show you the mistakes and put a temp grade on it which is great. Just reach out to him and you will undoubtedly succeed. He will help you for the rest of your academic career, even when class is done.
If you go to class and study then you will get an A. If you reach out to him he will help you succeed. He will even give you a temporary grade and show you the mistakes to fix if you give him your paper early. Love him!
Very clear on expectations. Doesn't make things easy, he makes you learn and pay attention because he wants YOU to do YOUR best(you're IN COLLEGE now)! Attend, read, listen, take good notes. Always willing to help. His story telling ways personally I think are the greatest because it makes history which is already interesting, more interesting.
One of the best history professors at CNU. Very invested in the success of students and truly wants to help them reach their fullest potential. Class can be challenging but definitely rewarding in the end. Ask questions during class and engage in conversations with him because, from personal experience, getting to know him has truly been an honor.
DO NOT WHATEVER YOU DO TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM. He doesnt use powerpoints, and he just talks for over an hour and its hard to tell when you should write things down or if hes just talking about random stuff. Grades extremely tough. has no sense of humor. please be warned
Santoro was great. It was like listening to a grandpa tell stories. Write down as many notes as you can manage. I got by without doing any of the textbook readings though, just the yellow sections. they're on tests. A lot of people don't like him, but that's more because they don't like the responsibility he puts on them. Its def a college course.
Very wise man. He can ramble, but it's usually with a purpose. Go see him during office hours and he is a different. Study his study guides.......
Santoro is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best professors I've ever had at CNU. He WANTS his students to succeed in his classes, but he also wants you to work hard for good grades. However, I still don't understand why everyone seems to dislike him. He was kind, understanding, and compassionate if I ever had an issue in the class.
Dr. Santoro doesn't just tell you about history, he connects you to it. Possibly one of the most significant things I've learned after taking many of his courses is that even minor events can hold great meaning if you're willing to look. If you actually want to learn and care about understanding the past, you can't do much better than Dr. Santoro.
Dr. S is my favorite professor. He does make you try your best and you do have to earn your grades- but that is the purpose of college. I came away from his class feeling inspired not just about history or peoples, but about learning itself. That is what college is all about! He is the greatest example of what a professor SHOULD be. Take him!
Dr. Santoro was a really interesting professor. I was nervous before taking his class, I knew he was going to be a tough professor. As long as you pay attention in class and follow the syllabus, you'll be fine. GO AND SEE HIM IN HIS OFFICE! As long as he can see that you are invested in improving you will do well in his class.
His class is so dry. There are no power-points or any sort of visual material to guide you on note-taking. He sits in his chair and lectures and you have to write down what you think is important. He also talks extremely fast so it's hard to keep up with what he's lecturing on. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Dr. Santoro is a wonderful professor of history at CNU. He gets a bad reputation for being a harsh grader but that is simply not true. He even allows students to turn in their reports early for feedback. His lectures incorporate current issues with past events to better understand history through a contemporary mindset. I would HIGHLY recommend!
Do not listen to whiny, ignorant freshman who complain about Santoro because they are too lazy to go to class and take notes. He is far and away the funniest professor on campus and one of the best teachers in the history department. I had him once a week for three straight hours and it was always the highlight of my week. He is fantastic!
Dr. Santoro has been the most amazing professor I have had at CNU. He geniuenly cares about the success of his students and if you make the effort to do well, YOU WILL DO WELL. Go to class, take notes, and use his study guides to study for the exams. He allows you to turn your papers in early for a temporary grade so take advantage of that!
Dr. Santoro is my favorite professor at CNU. He's incredibly helpful and kind when you seek out his help. His class is definitely a great experience.
He is a great professor and is always willing too help you just need to say something or go to his office hours.
Professor Santoro's style of teaching is all lecture but he gets the message across. It can be boring at times but there is only 2 book reviews which he gives you a sample and then he also does progressive grading. If you do bad on the first test don't be discouraged just study and if you do better on the second test the first will go away
I love him, he's the best! He is brilliant, hilarious, well-traveled and full of amazing anecdotes. He may come off as intimidating at first but he cares, and will likely have you cracking up at some point. I took several classes with him and enjoyed them all. He is not an easy grader but do the work and go to class and you will be successful.
Dr. Santoro just sits and lectures at the front of the class. He tests you based on what he lectured on AND what's in the book, so you have to study both for the tests. He gives you good study guides. Just define each word in the list and read all the chapters assigned and go over the notes, and you should be fine. I personally liked him.
One of the hardest 100lvl classes I've ever taken. Lecture notes are critical for passing his tests. Studying and paying attention is the only way to pass this class.
If you're a history buff or major, or just anyone who enjoys hearing interesting stories about ancient history, then this is the class for you! A great teacher who'll help if you reach out, but be prepared to work! There is no such thing as an easy A in his class, but if you put in the work and time, you'll do well.
As a history major, I found his class quite challenging, but not unbearable. Only 5 grades the whole semester, 3 exams and 2 papers which he all grades very tough. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, I went before the final and he helped me tremendously, I just had to ask. No powerpoints, just lectures from beginning to end so if that's not your style, avoid.
Dr. Santoro is so knowledgeable about the topics he teaches. He seems mean at first but he is very nice if you show that you are interested in the material, participate in class and go to his office hours.
Dr. Santoro knows a whole lot about history. He seems strict or even mean at first, but he's not cruel and is very helpful outside of class. His class is not one you can breeze through- take good notes, study them, and keep up in the textbook. There's only a few grades (and a little extra credit) so there's not much wiggle room.
You will get a cultural education like nothing you've ever experienced before in your life in his class. If you put in the work and show a readiness to learn and follow orders you're going to do well; if you're that rebel kid who has to argue with the professor for everything don't even bother taking him. Smartest man I've ever met.
Do you like listening to a lecture with no powerpoints or interaction? You'll only pass his class if you come into class with a notebook and write exactly what he says- also, study for the 3 tests you'll have- that's 75% of your grade. 2 book reports make up the rest- turn it in advance and he will revise. He's a good person at heart, put in effort
Dr. Santoro may depend on lectures with limited technology use in class, but he truly cares about his students. Before each test, he gives you a study guide with needed vocab and textbook excerpts you need to know. He also gives handouts in class which will be on the test. Go to class, listen, study, and you'll be fine. He's extremely smart/ caring
Santoro is an extremely well respected professor who knows the material like the back of his hand. The grade in the Hist11 class is determined by 25% test 1, 25% test 2, 25% final & 12.5% each for two book reviews. There's an extra credit type test in the beginning of class & if you do better than 70% it decreases each grade on the scale by 3%.
Dr. Santoro teaches from a time when students were better educated. He's an intellectual in every sense. There is so much to learn from him. Often unappreciated because he's tough on freshmen. He's, in reality, a very fair, wise man with so much to offer. You can't go to college without taking professors like this, and he's about all that is left.
I cannot say enough about this professor as a teacher or friend. I took several course with him. He makes you want to be a life long student. He infects you with his caring for the subject matter. I cannot say enough positive about this good man.
The man gets so off topic it is unreal. You'll start off class talking about ancient Rome, and by the end hes wasted 40 minutes talking about how America doesn't like Nazis. Passing his first exam is nearly impossible. You could study for 6 hours but I hate it break it to you, that's 6 hours not enough
Yes the class is hard. But this is college and you just gotta deal with that. Showing up to class is mandatory because the lectures are slightly different from the text. His lectures are interesting and the way he connects history to modern topics made the course that much more worth while and important. 2 essays and 3 tests make the grade.
Very interesting. Wants you to work for it.
Dr. Santoro is very passionate about history, and his lectures reflect that. However, be ready to write an amazing Book Review, then turn it in early, and don't expect much feedback. There were 3 or 4 tests, including the Midterm and Final. The tests got better as the semester went on, although the essay portion remained extremely difficult.
I absolutely LOVED professor Santoro! He's a sweet old guy who isn't afraid to make jokes about his age. I heard that he is tougher on freshmen but I took his film class as a junior and adored him. If you go to office hours he offers you tea and homemade cookies. As long as you pay a minimal amount of attention you will do great. Only 5 assignment.
Dr. Santoro is real. He treats you with respect and expects you to take responsibility. He wants you to read and hold yourself to a higher standard. He is hard but it is only because he wants you to grow. His lectures are captivating and he tells many storys to supplement them. Youll almost never be bored. If you love history, take his class!
Dr. Santoro is a gem of a professor, whose long tenure as a respected academic has benefited every student who has taken HIS 111. He challenges his students to think and rise to their potential. He is open and accessible. A Mr. Chips in his prime. Loved him!
Dr Santoro's classes are hard. However if you put the work in, the class is very rewarding. He really wants his students to succeed and I highly recommend taking advantage of his office hours. He is very helpful and accessible. Tough class but I learned a lot.
Professor Santoro told us at the beginning of the semester to not read his Rate my Professor because the students "hate" him. I honestly believed that his class was going to be the most difficult one on my schedule, but reading my textbook and definitely studying the word lists he provides definitely made my life easier so I'd reccomend the same!
Dr. Santoro seems like a nice person, but he is not a good professor. He doesn't use Scholar to put grades online, so you have no idea if you're passing. He also made the tests incredibly difficult. The only way he teaches is by lecturing. He talks fast and you have to rush to take good notes before he changes topics.
Dr. Santoro is a one of a kind professor. Is he tough? Absolutely. There are no power points in his class and reading the textbook/ taking detailed notes is crucial to passing. However, He really cares about forming his students into competent adults who know how to think for themselves. As long as you are willing to put in the work, you'll pass.
He's an interesting professor but a very harsh grader. I would not take him if you aren't able to pass/fail his class.
I read the reviews before starting his class and I was expecting him to be mean and fail everyone. That couldnt be further from the truth. Santoro treats his students like adults and cares about their success. He grades tough but leaves good feedback so you can improve in the future. I ended his course with an A-! Loved his class and lectures
His definitely makes you work hard for your grade, however he is funny, great lecture, cares about his students. Always wants to help you, his office hours helps a lot to improve your grades. Best history professor during my school experience.
Professor Santoro is not an easy professor, but he is an excellent one. I took Ancient Egypt with him, and I learned a lot about a civilization with which I was not previously familiar. Santoro expects you to read and attend lectures, as well as write to the best of your abilities, but rest assured that he is very helpful outside of class.
I cant speak for his in-person classes, but his virtual lectures are SO dry. Im not sure he even has a real plan for what he wants to talk about each dayhell go off on long tangents and then be like oh you dont need to know any of that. Theres no slides to supplement lectures, just his monotone voice.
I feel bad giving him a low rating because he truly is a great guy. he definitely cares a lot about the university and his students. However, he still teaches like it's the 80s. His lectures have no PowerPoint or slides to go along with it so it's definitely not ideal for visual learners. You HAVE to do the readings from the study guide to pass
Lectures for whole class, but is very enthusiastic and will respond to questions happily.
To say Anthony Santoro is a distinguished professor is a very misleading statement. He is in fact distinguished amongst some of the worst professors ever. For this class, he requires an ungodly amount of work for a 300 level class. My 400 level class was far easier than this. He expects far too much. Don't take this class if you care ab your sanity
Dr. Santoro is a heavy lecturer. But he is a really nice person :)
Just talks all class and doesn't give a presentation. Very dull and boring especially online. Don't recommend this class at all if you want a passing grade. 2 essays, 2 tests, and a final are the only grades. Teaches like its the 1980s
Don't take this class unless it's absolutely necessary for your degree. This is a ridiculously hard 100 level class for no reason. There are no PowerPoints, only lectures. He tests on literally ANYTHING in all of the assigned chapters of the textbook. if you spell a word wrong by one letter on a test, the whole answer is wrong. Don't do it.
Friendly and gives good feedback quickly. There are only a few tests and they are packed with information.
While initially he may seem unapproachable, if you put in the effort to speak with him and actually ask questions, he will be very easy and funny to talk to.
Santoro is a great professor to take for upperclassmen. He is tough with grading, but he is very fair and offers chances to improve the first grade you received back. I enjoyed the way he lectures on top of the practical knowledge he dispenses. If you listen to him and abide by the syllabus he will tell you exactly how to succeed in his class.
This is a hard class with a tough teacher, however it will help you in the long run developing discipline in your work, working hard, and thinking ahead.
Throughout this course as an upper classmen and knowing a good teacher when I know them, this is not one of them. This course included boring lectures, dismissive attitude to my questions making me feel ignored, and ridiculous grading scale, it is nearly impossible to get a satisfactory grade. Freshman and everyone else steer clear, not worth.
Dr. Santoro is extremely knowledgeable about the Byzantine Empire. He truly cares about his students and enjoys adding fun personal stories that apply to the topic that we are learning about. Since our class was 3 hours long, he would lecture for some of time and then we would watch a film. A very kind man who genuinely cares for the students.
Honestly, I haven't had a professor like Dr. Santoro, and I wish there were more like him. His ability to turn every lecture into a story is immaculate, and he is hilarious. He always displays so much passion when giving his lectures; he more than welcomes questions. That is all my experience with in-person learning.
If you don't show up, you won't do well. His lectures are pretty miserable because he doesn't have any powerpoints or guided notes of any kind. He just sits there and reads from his book. He also gets off track easily and goes on semi-related tangents. It's incredibly difficult to take notes because you have no idea what's important and what's not.
Very long boring lectures. Goes on very off topic rants all the time that sound important but in reality aren't. VERY tough grader, not nice to your GPA or you. I do not recommend.
Possibly the worst Professor I've ever had. He's a terrible communicator and most of his lectures make no sense. His syllabus was a mess and the only thing he used to explain assignments, which made everything confusing. He gave us no instructions with assignments and was not helpful in answering questions. He was incredibly rude most of the time.
Awfully difficult professor. His grading criteria is unclear and is extremely harsh when grading. Something as insignificant as a grammar or formatting error can bring him to fail paper/test. For your own sanity, do not take his class.
I'm not too fond of this professor. He doesn't post any notes online, and he gets off topic too often, making his lectures difficult to understand. However, the worst thing about this professor is that his grading is unreasonably harsh. The final exam was essay only, and I didn't agree with the grade he gave me. Avoid him at all costs.
Dr. Santoro is a fantastic professor! He makes his lectures interesting by tying them to things happening in the current day. His 2 book reports assignments are amazing because he lets us pick them so we can pick a book we find interesting. He also lets us turn in the book reports early so we have an idea of what we may need to fix or add.
I would not recommend this class, though things discussed were interesting, Santoro's lectures were very boring and had very difficult tests. There were two book analyses due during the semester, Not a lot of time to finish either and was extremely difficult, boring, and was graded toughly. The book analysis and tests where the only grades
From my experience, he was sexist and narcissistic. I found it difficult to follow his lectures (just sitting up there talking with no material) and his tests were very difficult because spelling counted but he never posted any notes so it was difficult to remember the spelling of hard ancient names.
Professor Santoro has a unique style, but if you engage with it, the class can be rewarding. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and try tools like unstuck AI for study prep - it made a big difference for me.
He doesn't use presentations, so notes are difficult. He gets off topic a lot. For notes, it is better to either record his lectures or just type down everything he says. He has a textbook, but he doesn't assign reading. He does a progressive grading system, so if you do better on one essay 2 than 1, the better grade will take over.
Don't listen to the negative comments on here. His grading was straightforward, the lectures were interesting. If you need a history credit I would 100% recommend this class.
Dr. Santoro is an excellent Professor. I was unsure going into the class as I had heard he was tough, but his class within two or three weeks had become my favorite non business class that I've taken at CNU. He is a very hard grader, but if you take good notes, pay attention, and make an effort, the class is very intellectually stimulating!
By the grace of god I got an A in this class. 2 hour, 45 minute class and will yap for 45-50 of those minutes before even getting to the film for the night. The syllabus is the only instruction you get for how to complete writing assignments, but the way the syllabus is formatted makes it beyond difficult to comprehend his instructions.
Exams are online and you can take them from home. All he does it talk in class kinda boring. He assigns 2 book review paper that's the only other things he grades beside exams.
