I took BSC1005 and BSC1005L. Great guy super easy going I did a hybrid class so there lecture/online labs on Mondays and in person labs on Wednesdays. Both labs were easy, he only made it mandatory to show up on Wednesday. There's only tests and one 2,000 word essay for lecture part. The study guides given is basically the test so just study that.

He grades fairly and if you have questions about your grade you can see him after class and discuss it, as well as if you have questions about the lecture he is there as well.

Funny and a very knowledgeable professor. For A&P 1, he only had 5 exams that were 50 questions each and the study guides were very easy to work on and study due to his slideshows and exam reviews. He does enjoy participation, so be sure to raise your hand and ask questions and answer questions he might ask. PRO TIP: Stay after class during labs.

Professor Spilker is one of the best professors that I've had at HCC. I've taken 3 classes (Microbiology + Lab Human A & P 1 + Lab, and Human A & P 2 + Lab) with him and they've all been a pleasure. Don't walk but RUNNN to this Professor. literally one of the best and if I can take him again I definitely would.

Take Professor Spilker now. For whatever course he's instructing. Homework is simple, and his study guides are A1. He provides a very clear grading criteria and works with you. Just come to class. Course has minimal stress, but does cover a lot of material. Honestly, he's just awesome, you'll be fine.

Simple course that is on-pace with his lecture class. All of the work is online, and is done in class. We were usually finished with all lab work within 15-30 minutes of class starting. You get points just for coming.

Whoever said 'Death by PowerPoint' is heckling. This class is not like that at all. There is a decent amount of material though, any serious class would be that way. Professor Spilker takes the time to break it down so everyone understands. He is very funny, understanding, compassionate, and exceeded my expectations for this class.

Overall I feel he wants us to do well and succeed, plus gives all of us the materials we need to succeed. He teaches and explains much better than other micro profs at hcc. Sometimes his lectures can feel wordy, definitely not 'death by power point' though. I feel everyone should have a great professor like this at least once in their life.

I had him for both lecture and lab, he was organized with lectures and went through every chapter thoroughly. Lab and lab test he made easy to comprehend, just make sure you show up and do the assignments. Do not hesitate to ask questions, he will give you an answer no matter what. If you study the material, you will pass with flying colors.

Teacher was great at being clear, straightforward, helpful, willing to work with students, and was sarcastic and made real life application interesting and funny. He was more than fair with grading and provided study guides for exams that were very helpful. No required essays there were optional ones for extra credit, and no student presentations.

This was my third time taking AP2 and he made it sooo much easier to understand and broke things down to where I could understand it. His study guides and homework almost over prepare you for the exams. He will also take the time to work with you when you need help. I wish I had a professor like him sooner and could take more classes with him.

The material was more difficult than I thought it would be, he did a good job breaking it down and engaged us a lot during lectures. The occasional jokes kept class entertaining enough to survive the early morning class. Would take again.

If you need to take Anatomy or Microbiology of any sort I would recommend taking it with Mr. Spilker. I took Anatomy 2 after struggling with it in the past. I first found the class easier in how it was taught. not too many assignments and not too exam-heavy, but also taught to understand material and not just pass. Don't be intimidated & good luck!

He is a great professor as you can tell by his perfect rating. He says he does not deserve it but he does. He's chill and caring but also has a universal teaching style and wants you to do well. He will make jokes and encourages you to be comfortable to participate not necessarily get the right answers. Great all around highly recommend!

Lectures get heavy at times but he gives solid exam reviews and study guides. What really stuck with me during fall '24 semester was during the hurricanes he really was supportive, extended deadlines, understood the travel issues we all had, and everyone came together during this and made out OK. This was my second time taking a micro course, he takes the time to break down the material into digestible bits and is very helpful when you do not understand something. The study guides are clutch for the exams, the homework's are super easy. This class is an easy B if you do the work.

I took BSC 2086 & BSC 2086L this spring, 2025. I also took his Microbiology course a year prior. Professor spilkers courses are straightforward, and clearly outlined. Awesome professor, he is very thorough, review his power points, most of his exams answers are there. I drove 45 minutes every Monday/Wednesday to attend MCB 2000/MCB 2000L. He does everything in his power to ensure that you excel in his course. You can easily tell when a professor wants you to succeed and he is definitely a prime example of this!! Take him for microbiology, it will be the best thing you do for yourself in your college career!

Professor Spilker exceeded my expectations. He is very attentive, understand, and provides meaningful feedback. You will pass if you simply show up, do the work, study for the exam, and ask questions. He does not want you to fail. He is truly a remarkable professor!!!

His lectures are very fast and easy to follow along. He makes sure everyone understands and answers the same question 5 different times for you to understand if he has to.

Professor Spilker is straightforward with lectures, and lab follows right after, his classes don't take the whole time allotted. There's 4 exams and it's very helpful to do the review guide. McGraw hill assignments are due weekly, and there's a couple extra credit opportunities. He does a great job teaching the material in a way it really sticks!

Unlike most of the other bio/anatomy professors at the brandon campus, he actually teaches, listens, and works with you. he definitely puts in the effort. no regrets taking his course, whoever complains about him has a lot to unpack.

I took Professor Spilker for A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology. As someone who has taken multiple biology courses, I have rarely seen a professor so dedicated to making sure his students understand material and are thriving in class to their potential. He is caring, funny, and knowledgeable. I could not recommended this professor enough.

His study guides are pretty straightforward and are almost EXACTLY like the exam so there is no confusion. He truly cares about his students and he is pretty funny.
