alright check it........Anthony Swanson is the MAN.........he is liniant on grading....and makes you want to learn....he may lecture for hours.....but he keeps it real.......had him the last two semesters.....and got an average of B......take him if you dont like homework....

He loves to lecture, but he keeps you interested. I hated history until I had his class. Unlike any boring history teacher I've ever had. I am definitely taking another one of his classes.

If you hate history and have not taken it because you fear it, fear no longer. He may seem hard the first day or two (He requires last name basis, midterms are bluebook essays from memory) and that may sound scary but he makes it fairly easy. The essays are on fairly easy broad topics. If you pay attention and try you will go far.

If u hate history and fear of getting a bad grade in history...fear no longer cause mr. swanson is the best history proffesor...he is very passionate abt the subject he teaches...no way u can fail his class...his midterms and finals are really easy. he gives u the topic before hand and there is no trick involve in all exams...he is really good!!!!

He is a great teacher. Makes the subject very interesting and doesn't give out a lot of work. All work in that class was very easy and he's a very helpful and nice teacher. Always friendly and willing to answer all questions. I'm definitely taking another one of his class again.

He's an excellent teacher. His lectures may get a little boring but you learn a lot in his class. Tests are not easy but aren't hard either, if you pay attention and try, you will get at least a B.

I hate history, but not with Mr. Swanson. He is very helpful and keep his lecture very lively and insteresting. English is my second language, and I didn't know much about American History and still earn A in his class. Just be sure be on time, pay attention to his lecture, you will ace the class easy. His quizes are from his lecture.

i so love this teacher! he is fun! He explains things clearly and keeps students interested. I took his class at night and i doze off once in a while... but the good thing is i don't really fall asleep during his lecture! i fall asleep during the break! he's tough in essays, but if you do your best, easy A!

Swanson is VERY sincere and very fired up about history, which makes it entertaining and easy to listen to. He really is one of the best teachers i've had in a lonnnng time, and i'm NOT a history buff by any means. With close attention to the lectures and reading the text, an A is absolutly possible.

Mr. Anthony Swanson is a wonderful professor I have ever seen. He has got excellent skills in giving lectures. He lectures for hours and hours still he never get tired. He is the coolest teacher. He is very interested in what he's teaching and his teaching style is great. He can get a little too extreme about avoiding cheating and stuff. But he's a very entertaining teacher and I recommend taking his class.

Awesome! Come to class, take good notes, and read the chapters. There is a research paper but you have plenty of time to get it done. We were given the mid-term and final essay questions ahead of time so there were no surprises.

Overall, Swanson was an excellent teacher. He provided both essay test questions in advance. You can always meet with him in office hours & he is always very welcoming to your concerns. I have taken many history classes in the past & he was one of the most knowledgeable professors I have encountered. I strongly recommend his class.

Hist 17A Excellent teacher. One of the best professors I have ever had. Makes the subject matter very interesting. If you attend the lectures and pay attention, you do not have to read the book. Very fair grader and very helpful. Added to my knowledge even though I am a nursing major. Highly recommend.

Not a history wonk, but a good and fair teacher for this survey class. Essay scores are generous if you just answer the question accurately and in context - big dings for fact errors and smaller ones for forgetting context (it's history, so mention what happened before & after!). Book is necessary reading for an A. Pop quizzes requie attendance.

Great professor. His lectures did start to put me asleep, but that was because it was summer session; 3 hour lectures were a little too long for me. I really enjoyed his class though, learned a bit, and got an easy A. He's a very clear and interesting speaker. Attendance is mandatory because of pop quizzes and the occasional in-class assignments.

He is a very great history teacher I have ever had. He is very understanding student's difficulty, especially with student whose Enlish is a second language. He is very helpful, friendly, and easy grading. His lecture was interesting even though I don't like history. I was very enjoy in his class. Take him before his class is full!

Professor Swanson is a very good teacher. His lecture is easy to understand and follow. Also in the first day of class, he explains the course outline really well and he reminds you with the deadlines throughout the semester. Overall, he is a very good teacher and I would take his other history courses his teaching.

Not too bad, not too good. Just any average teacher, will help you out, is a good person at heart. He can be boring. The Essay is VERY IMPORTANT. Many didn't take notes, but I recommend you do. A lot of extra credit. Likes midterm and final essay to be v. detailed. Particip. act. suck, though.

mr swansons a good teacher. he expects a lot out of his students and he tells you everything in the beginning and doesnt go back on his word. essays are super important as well as attendance. he likes pop quizzes and making sure you actually are reading the book. he tells you straight up its hard to get an a but most get a b. best teacher ever :D

Mr. Swanson was my very first teacher at a community college and he made a great impression on me. I had him during the summer, which would mean longer hours, but summer school didn't even feel like that with him! He has so much energy and he knows his history. I always looked forward going to class because he always had a smile on his face. =)

Mr. Swanson is freaking awesome! You can tell this guy loves his history just by the way he teaches it. No HW, just one research paper which is easy to do if you don't slack. If you are respectful he will be the same. I will take him for many other history classes in the future, and recommend him to anyone.

I took Professor Swanson's Western Civ class 2 yrs ago. His class was uniquely interesting and insightful. He combined all sorts of materials - from slideshows to maps, to make things easier to grasp. I really enjoyed his class and would definetely recommend students to seek out Prof. Swanson's classes!

He's a good professor in that he really loves history and it almost becomes contagious, but he's really hyper to the point where he can seem unapproachable. Also, he can be rather evasive when it comes to 1 vs 1 student/professor time as it always seems like he's in a hurry. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would take him again! =)

Great teacher! Mr. Swanson is very passionate and enthusiastic about history. My favorite teacher I've had to date! Extremely informative and really gets you interested in the subject. His class isn't too hard or too easy either. As long as you study, and see him for study hours to make sure on track, you're practically guaranteed an "A". Mission needs more teachers like him.

He has one research paper, in-class participation, a midterm, 5 quizzes, and that's it! It's soooo easy! I studied for the midterm the day of, (it's an essay), if you write they key people and dates, A! I wish I had more classes with him):

Extremely talented lecturer. Although attendance is mandatory and there is a lot to participate in, he makes it very easy! However, I felt like he had a crush on me. He went out of his way to talk to me in and outside of class. It was very unprofessional. He made me feel uncomfortable and stared at me. If he wasn't so easy, I would have dropped.

He was hands down the best teacher I have had during the course of my college years. The class was fairly easy as long as you pay attention and Mr Swanson was super fun to be in class with. He does lots of participation activities.

Swanson talks a lot, gives tons of information, that it's kind of overwhelming at times. He lectures with passion, making the topic seem more interesting and easier to absorb. I recommend future students to take notes on their laptops, instead of writing it down.

This professor is HILARIOUS. He makes History come alive just by coming to his classroom. Take him and you will not regret it.

I would recommend this teacher to anyone even if you are not interested in History. Lectures are informative but you're going to write a lot of notes. Attendance is MANDATORY. He makes the lectures fun and interesting. The work is not hard as long as you follow his guidelines. Very well organized and exact scheduled dates for the semester.

He's a great teacher! I just recently took him for Winter Sesh. There are only 5 quizzes. The 2 homework, midterm, & finals are all essays but he gives you topics to choose from ahead of time to prepare for them. He's very enthusiastic when teaching so you'll never get bored! Also very organized about EVERYTHING. "Just work hard & you'll do fine!"

Had him for both California History and History 4B at Mission College, and he's easily one of my favourite teachers I've had in a long time.

You aren't allowed to use your phone at all nor take pics. However, if you follow the lectures you are fine. Essay/Exam questions given ahead of time. I recommend reading the book but some have gone without reading. He doesn't give much hw but there is a relatively easy 10pg research paper that he helps you with (on topic of choice).

I would definitely recommend Mr. Swanson he is a great teacher. I returned to school after ten years and I was so nervous and I hated history from what I could remember. A few weeks in and I felt very confident his teaching skills are great and he keeps things interesting. He is simply a great person! No jargon allowed! I loved that!

I took him specifically for all the history courses I needed. This guy is amazing. He's super passionate about the material he teachers so it's very easy to learn. Arguably one of the best professors I have ever had; he is a type of professor who is very passionate about his subject and lectures very stimulatingly! I would recommend Swanson if you're looking for an easy history class. There are 5 quizzes, 1 midterm and a final; these are doable to study imo. Lastly, there's a research paper that one must do.

Mr. Swanson is the best history professor I ever had. He is very passionate about teaching. His lectures are really amazing. I didn't like history, but he made the history class a lot of fun. He is always professionally dressed, which is also a plus. Not a super easy A class, but not hard at all as long as you do the work.

Practice your midterm and final essays before the actual (heavily graded). He wants a lot of facts on those including key dates, people, and context. MAKE SURE YOU MEMORIZE THESE IN LOGICAL/ CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. As for the research essay, do your drafting and editing in a span of five weeks. A rushed essay bad grade.

His lectures are very energizing. As for the pop quizzes, just read the textbook, study a quizlet out of the chapter, and memorize the note taken outline if presented before the day of the pop quiz.

Lectures were amazing for such a boring topic. He is super harsh on due dates so if you can't handle turning things on time whether it be in person or email don't take this class. I'm an engineering student so this class was a breeze. He gives you essay topics ahead of time for exams which is nice. Being a good writer helps. Essays are graded harsh

Anthony Swanson class is the type of class that you will not fall asleep in. He is very enthusiastic with his lectures. He makes History sound so interesting that i find myself continuing to learn more about history on my own. When it comes to grading , he is very fair as long as you do the work. Take him if you want to LEARN more about history.

Amazing Professor!!! I took him twice! His lectures were clear and great, he is very enthusiastic, not a tough grader at all. He does have a research paper for 17B, he gives you a lot of time and helps you with the format of what he expects. Gives pop quizzes but the answers are all in his lectures. Just attend class and you will get an easy A.

One the best Professors I ever had.

Professor Swanson was great at having the entire class laid out for the student to check out what they will be doing (on Canvas). I had an easy time studying and writing my essays throughout the course because he was able to explain the directions clearly. Nothing about Swanson is confusing and that is what I enjoy in a teacher.

Mr. Swanson lays everything that expected out in the syllabus. Class is fun, a research paper where you get to choose the topic. Hundred percent reccomend you take the class.

Excellent professor. Extremely Detailed in lecture Notes. Quizzes test basic knowledge. Papers are challenging, but put in some detail and you will do well. Office hours are a good place to check in If you have questions about assignment due dates or just want to talk.

No mandatory zoom classes (for winter) so it's self paced, of course with due dates. The bulk of your grade rests on essays but he gives detailed and helpful feedback for you to use to improve on. Quizzes aren't hard, if you know how to use his lecture notes you're fine. Discussions are sprinkled here and there but aren't hard at all. Good guy!

I have always hated history, and granted I still don't like it per se, but if I had to take another class by Mr. Swanson I would. I looked him up here prior to signing up for the course and the accolades of him are absolutely accurate. He is extremely supportive and kind. It is easy to tell that he cares for his job and his students. 10/10

Good teacher, well written syllabus. He is animated during his lectures and keeps them engaging. Forgiving with attendance. Exams are not that difficult, he gives you the prompt a week earlier then you write the essay in 50 minutes at the class. Quizzes for me were a hit and miss tbh

Professor Swanson is an easy A. You have a midterm and a final which is writing an essay during class and he gives you the prompts before the exam date. there are 6 quizzes but if you don't do well on those you can still pass. Some classwork, and movies during class with one page reflections. Overall easy A. You don't need to try that hard.

So easy, very understanding, He is amazing!

I had him over the Winter and he knows how to do an online asynchronous class well. Plenty of little assignments in case you don't do well on the tests. Isn't picky about the textbooks, you can easily get them for free online. Responds to emails very fast. There's a lot of reading but as long as you read the material you can get an A no problem.
