He teaches a lot and has a lot of knowledge but you have to KNOW the material he teaches to pass
Difficult prof! Tends to go off the subj. at times trying to be comical or "cool". Very unorganized--tends to bounce back and forth on subjects. Rd the text so you can understand his lectures. His exams are a joke! The ?'s throw you off to the pt. of having an anxiety attack. They are not straightforward so that you can learn from them in any way.

Awesome teacher so far
I was dissapointed in the lack of actual issues in this class, I was expecting in depth discussion on current issues, but it is nothing more than a plain mix of a human bio and regular bio course. Exams were unbearably hard, but curve was very very generous. Therefore I would recommmend this class, just dont hope for discussion.
Very difficult class. Prof Uzwiak is the bomb though. He makes the class so fun. There is so much info and his tests are impossible though. Slight curve.
His lectures are boring but very easy to follow. Doesn't take attendance or make you buy book, however, you must go to class because that's where the tests/notes come from. Even if you know ALL the material presented in the lectures, his tests in H. Sexuality are SO HARD!!! Good luck! Very nice, VERY FUNNY. looks like martin short lol
this guy is the best! he's fun, energetic, prepared, helpful and clear. the class material IS VERY hard and the tests are insane, he does curve, but you better STUDY HARD to do well. overall, take this guy, you won't regret it.
He's a great teacher but this is a hard class. Begins with bio but gets easier as he moves on to pregnancy and STDs. The tests are very hard and sometimes questions are unclear. He's a fascinating man and lectures in an interesting way.
If you like a guy who continually talks during your test and also tests your knowledge of how to interpret his questions rather than the notes, then this is the class for you. Unfortunately, It's not just about the **** entering the ****. Get ready for a heavy-bio class with difficult exams.
Lectures and classes are fun. He tries to be too funny sometimes but otherwise he does explain things very well. Tests very difficult. Too particular about minute details. Questions designed to be tricky, but not according to psychometric research so it's basically like theres no point. Difficult, but I doubt you'll find a better prof 4 the class.
too much info-too much ego!
The class itself is really interesting. It sucks to go to a 915 on douglass, but once you are there he usual keeps you interested. His notes are online, but at the end of the day his exams are ridiculous. You need to interpret the questions and read into them. I just feel like thats asking a lot when the material itself is so dense.
very intersting class. but a LOT of work, very in depth and specific exams. but as he said in the beginning of the semester (that this class would probably be one of the most informative classes you'll take in college) i think he is right.
I agree with the comments below. Very interesting class & professor, but the tests are ridiculously hard! It's almost as if there is no definitive answer to 50% of the questions. The tests seems to a little unfair. I understand he is trying to have you actually learn something, but that's not always what ends up happening!
honestly dont take this class... he is a nice guy but the material is ridiculous he puts about 500 different questions and possiblities for answers and is very unclear about what he wants from you ... he expects you to know WAY too much information and commit it all to memory. honestly his questions are ridiculous and half are not fair ...
Real good guy. Tests are hard as hell...STUDY!!! But he is a funny, easy going guy.
Never gets back to you. Never follows through on what he says. Bad example.
He is an excellent professor. He makes extremely hard material super easy to understand. His diagrams on the board go a long way in getting the hang of stuff, and questions pertaining to them sometimes show up in exams too. His exams are slightly hard, but fair, and they are all normalized. Good sense of humor. Take him if you can, but GO TO CLASS.
His exams are VERY HARD, but he's a very good guy and he helps you out whenever u need it. Make sure u go to all his classes and study his notes closely. You WILL work hard in this class and very difficult to get an A but its very possible if you know your stuff.
Really nice guy, great professor. He is very knowledgable and if you take him you will learn. His exams are tricky, but he is a fair grader and you will get what you deserve. Highly recommend.
He is hands down the most knowledgable professor I've ever had. Don't let his hard exams scare you into not taking his classes because you will definately learn from him and thats the most important thing. The exams are curved anyway, so in the end you'll get the grade you deserve.
funny funny guy...but the class is not...whoever said this was the easiest science class at rutgers was a LIAR....the prof is very dedicated to his work and he knows a lot about the material but the tests are very difficult and since there is no book, its even harder... -->bad class, nice prof... looks like george bush's brother...
Excellent professor. Exams are based mostly on lecture material and his class notes. Makes the material seem very simple while still keeping the class entertained.
I took him for neurobio & he's by far, one of the most dreadful, boring professors I've ever had. His curves are never in class favor, he's horrible at giving notes, and he shows off about how he never even opened text book. He's horrible. If possible, take his class with ANYone else.
Good professor but just alot of info to cram for each exam. Labs suck. The amount of study time involved for a 100 level class is insane. I recommend taking this course at a community college during the summer.
This class was so hard. Attendance doesn't count, but it hurts you if u dont go. his tests are ridiculously detailed, but the curve gives you a decent grade. Do not take if you don't have to---especially if you're a non-bio major. Don't expect an easy A
exams are hard as HELL...but very interesting class!! Def would advise to take it AFTER you get into nursing program bc it is a GPA killer!!! Even if you fail, you will have probly learned more in this class than any other. I would def take it again. He is extremely nie and so easy going...also probly one of the most "intelleigent" i've met.
peole need to stop complaining....rutgers actually has a decent professor who knows what he is talking about. its def not an easy "a" but you get what you came for....knowledge
I've had professor Uzwiak twice now, and his classes are hard. There is no easy A. His teaching is great and I've learned a lot from his classes, but his exams make your brain hurt. The hardest part is that your grade is based upon how well you do in relation to the rest of your classmates, rather than knowing all the information 100%
He is a pretty good professor. As long as you go to the class, and take all the notes. p.s. write down all he says, not just what he writes on the bored. And write his paper. Cause I didn't and I would have had a B, but I got a C instead. It helps.
One of the nicest guys you're likely to meet on campus. Very helpful, and gives great lectures. Unfortunately, the class is impossibly difficult. I was told it would be great for me since I'm a non-science major. Wrong. Even though you may understand the lecture material, the questions on the tests are obscure and difficult. Be careful.
Funny, when he taught Human Sexuality, his exam are much much easier. But when I took it with him for the Biomed course, his exam are horrible. Conclusion is that if you have to take a course with him, it has to be Human Sexuality which is offered in the Spring semester. I am a non-science major and if I can get an EZ A in it, you can too.
TAKE ONLY HUMAN SEXUALITY WITH HIM... DO NOT! I REPEAT, DO NOT BE STUPID AND TAKE ANATOMY OR BIOMEDICAL ISSUES WITH HIM BECAUSE HE WILL BE HARDCORD ON THOSE TWO. I TOOK ALL THREE COURSES WITH HIM.
took H. Sexuality with him last year and it wasn't bad. just do the review questions he gives out and you will see that most what he wants you to study is on the exam
I do not recommend taking this class with Dr. Uzwiak if you care at all about your GPA. If you want to learn then Uzwiak is great however if your doing this simply to fulfill your requirement then dont take the class. The professor is extremely smart but also arrogant, he brags about his undergraduate career and gets mad at stupid questions.
I am a music major and I got an A for this course because its not only easy but its just EASY. You don't have to be smart to get an A for this class because Dr. Uz's exams are easy and he even drops the lowest exam. YOu have to be literaly stupid if you get a B or lower.
If you see Human Sexuality 119:182 by Dr. Uzwiak, that is the class you would want to take. Class isn't hard at all and there are three exams and he drops the lowest one. Also, easy homework assignment that doesn't even go over 1 hour. However, I also took Anatomy with him, which he could be really hard. So only take Human Sexuality with Dr. U.
Just do the review questions he posts on the website and you will see that majority of the exams are from those review sheets... if you took intro to sociology or log reason persu and thought those are easy., well take this., its even easier.. but MUST look over the review sheet. 70-80% almost same questions.
Favorite class I've taken so far! It is the biology of reproduction so be prepared to know some basic bio. It is mandatory you go because there is no book or lecture notes online but well worth it! He is entertaining and just a genuine nice guy. Not as easy as people described below. The average for the class is about a 75 on an exam. Recommended!
tough tough class. exams are extremely detailed and confusing and i came out of every single one with no clue how i did. however the curve helps a LOT. i dont know where id be without it! really nice prof though and very interesting lectures. learned a lot!! i recommend the class just know the weekends before those monday exams will be ROUGH
Professor Uzwiak is hillarious.. he is really sweet and helpful and he makes the lectures very interesting. Attenance is not mandatory but if you do attend your grade will reflect it. The final is cumulative but bearable and he scales the grades. I would definitely recomend taking this class to suffice natural science requirements.
Ok.Not the class for the biology challenged. You will fail if you don't go to class. If you love and KNOW/UNDERSTAND bio, you'll do fine. But still--you'll prob end up w/ a B. If you're taking it to fulfill a requirement...there are easier classes....believe me.
I just want to correct someone who said if you get lower than a B you are stupid. In regard to Uzwiak's class this is not true, I over heard him saying one time that he makes his exams so hard that not even he knows the correct answers all the time. Thats a problem!!! I suggest not taking this class if you do not need it.
People, no matter what those A students are saying, he could be the biggest jerk and pathetic loser ever. The exam make your life a living hell, of course you are going to learn a lot coz you will end up studying like crazy. Don't take him, I repeat Don't be stupid and take this class. If you can't drop it, withdraw from it!
Personally I like the guy, good teacher, he teachs you, and wants understanding, not reguritation, weeding out the crammers and slackers. His tests are a bit ridiculous, its not facts, its interpreation, half the question is in understanding how he phrases it, which he doesnt do that well. Take his class to learn, not to do well.

ok, i see a lot of comments here bashing uzwiak and i really have to defend him here. i see why people get mad at him because his test are hard but its not like he doesn't scale the points... so in the end your grade will reflect how much effort you put in and you'll get the grade you deserved.

Definitely take this class, believe me life will be much better, you learn a lot of stuff &he is really good. sometimes its not the grades but other things that count when it comes to success in life.. btw his exams are not difficult at all, got As in all. but learnt a lot lot..survival kit to stay healthy in college and l8r!!
His lectures are very interesting. He's a funny guy, I liked him a lot. All his notes are online, and if you study a lot for the test, you'll get B. His tests are really detailed but if you study then theyre ok. Theres no homework, no attendance, no reading. I didnt mind going to this class. the tests are tricky though, so be warned
HORRIBLE CLASS!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS! WAY harder than you would think, this guy is such an idiot. He curves, but most grades still suck. I took this with friends and we studied like hell and I STILL got a C+. Worst class I've taken in my entire life. So much unneeded stress from this stupid class that had NOTHING to do with my major...waste.
if you don.t have a lot of background in science, you won't do well in this class. it was hard hard hard! i hate science and this was gory detailed science! he was a funny guy and knew wayyy too much which is maybe why its so hard. he gives no introductory info, just jumps right in and there is no textbook which makes it 100 times worse!
Prof Uzwiak is well... very unique. his lectures are either really boring or kinda cool. the class isn't to hard tho he makes the exams so hard that he doesn't know the answers but VERY GOOD CURVE. 2 exams,1 final; final worth 50%. i got an A on my first B+ on the second. U NEED TO STUDY in order to do well both class notes and lecture notes.
His lectures are detailed and may seem a tad bit overwhelming, but he is extremely helpful and very funny. His tests are impossibly hard, but the scaling is wonderful.
If you do not like "Reproductive Biology" and you are like me and thought this class was going to be fun and enjoyable, take something else for your own sake! His tests are crazy hard and confusing. He has his entire shpeel on how he WISHES he didn't have to "assess" our skills. Then why doesn't he make the tests a little bit easier!
He's a nice guy, but his class is friggin' impossible!! Unless you MUST take his class, please don't. If this is just for your basic requirements, take another class. Tests are 50 questions with all the questions like "This is the process that goes on in this sexual system EXCEPT", meaning you must know EVERYTHING. It's just too frustratingly hard.
exams are ridiculous. even if he's easy to understand during lecture, exams are WAY MORE DETAILED than his lectures would ever imply. you better memorize every single stupid detail of his notes like the back of your hand if you realistically want a B+. barely studied for exam 1, studied my ass off for 2 + 3= same grade on all of them. makes no sens
Uzwiak is a great lecturer, he talks with animation, and you can tell he loves to teach, He makes jokes (some funny, some you just laugh at because he tried so hard) and is an overall nice guy. Very helpful, if you have a question, he'll make it a point to answer. the only problem is: HIS TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD! (But he does have a curve)
he's really nice but the tests are impossible...no matter how much you think you know before the test, it will still be difficult. Don't take it if you're looking for an easy class! It's more like reproductive bio not human sexuality. He does curve though
At first i thought he was very intelligent and taught the material really well. But I soom came to learn that he is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE! He reads off his notes, and his exams are REDICULOUS....oh and if you want curves, dont take this class! Brey and Martin might suck, but at least their curves are AMAZING compared to this guy! unfair if u askme
If you are good at memorizing notes than this class should be easy... if your not then don't take this class. I found the class easy bc I am a bio major but ppl who aren't but who are good at memorizing do well. His exams are hard but if you know the material inside and out you should do fine. EASY A!
dr. uzwiak is such a nice and funny man. his only set back are his extremely challenging exams. it just makes taking summer classes so freakin miserable!!!
This guy was the worst Prof. I ever had in college. I took this class in the summer and the entire spring semester class was retaking it because he failed them all. The test questions are ridiculous. He tries to fool you by asking b but not c questions and makes what is essentially easy material confusing. His online notes contradict his lectures.
His tests are unfairly hard. The problem with it is that with very hard multiple choice tests, a high number of the "correct" answers are just the result of guessing, so when he curves, the difference between an A, B, C, etc is actually the result of a limited amount of knowledge being assessed. He also doesn't know how to teach, just spew.
Took to fulfill minor requirement over the summer...BIG MISTAKE. Lectures are deceiving- he seems very laid back and is definitely intelligent however his exams are impossible. Definitely killed my GPA. avoid taking neurobio with him.
Nice, intelligent teacher, always open to office hours. But his tests are EXTREMELY hard. Go to class, take good notes, and read the book. Like him as a person, but I thought his tests were unfair for non majors.
Probably one of the coolest, most laid back professors ever! i enjoy coming to class just to hear him talk. however, his tests are RIDICULOUSLY HARD. takes material that isnt that generally difficult and rewords it to be impossible on tests.
This teacher is horrible. He seems like a nice guy, but tests are near impossible. Don't take the class if you want a good grade. Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. I thought Biomedical Issues would be about current issues, not at all. Talked mostly about body processes. Do NOT take this teacher!
Took bio 102 over the summer. He'll seem like a nice guy with his "i refuse to give grades" speech and his laid back attitude but his exams are HARD. He posts notes online and tells you whats on the exam but he takes the easiest concepts and rewords them like crazy for the MC. He has short answer questions too but awards little if its not perfect.
lectures are interesting &keep your attention. You think you will do well on the tests, but then you come to find theyre RIDICULOUS. He is a nice guy, but I've emailed him a couple of times for extra help and he never responded. I attended all his lectures and he accused me of missing them and that is why i am doing poorly. What a jerk!
I took bio 101 with this guy in the summer and what people said is right. As a person he's fine but his exams are incredibly difficult. Most of his questions were from his posted notes but you need to know them inside and out. He didn't follow the textbook exactly. I'd say just take it during the regular semester.
I LOVE THIS MAN!! he rocks! his test are absolutely and ridiculously difficult so i am happy with my B+, but he its worth taking his classes just cuz he's awesome
Very nice guy, but very hard tests. I wouldn't say he is impossible and unfair though. He wants his students to understand what he teaches and doesn't want to throw out A's to everyone. You need to earn it. He is always available at office hours and gives you good hints if you go. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. Got an A both times I took him
Please people i am doing you a favor by telling you DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS MAN...Ridiculous
Took Bio 101 and 102 with him last summer. Will seem like a nice guy at first but he throws tantrums. Goes off topic a lot (waste time). Funny stories but sometimes "too" much detail (eww). Bogus office hours (7AM and I lived 45 mins away) EXAMS ARE HARD! takes easiest concepts and makes them hard. awards little for open ended if its not perfect.
Don?t take him if you can. I have taken all types of courses and am currently in 3 400 level courses and this 200 level course. His exams are harder then any exam I have ever taken. If you care about your GPA do NOT take him. He wants you to do 14+ hrs/week of work on top of his class to do well- those are HIS words!
Dont take any classes with this man unless you want to take it with the devil. He seems nice but when it comes to the exam, you will quickly wish you did not take it with him. He will teach you 50% of the material that you will get on the exam, so even if you do well on the curve, you will feel horible after each exam. DONT TAKE HIM!
DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. no book so you have to go to class and even then I BARELY got a C. Made me switch my major lol. nice guy tho. HARDEST CLASS EVER
I just completed his Human Sexuality class and was part of the "A" curve. I must tell you, though, that this course is not an easy "A!" It's actually Human Reproductive Biology - "Human Sexuality" is a misnomer. Come to every class AND study his note packet (available on his website) religiously, and you'll do well. Uzwiak is also very funny!
He's a brilliant professor. Very tough class and exams. Be sure to read his outlines he likes to use tiny details to trick you on multiple choice. Go to class to get points on the free response. He tends to get pissy after exams but don't take it personally he only expects excellence. study hard and i mean hard or you will will not get above a C+!
LOVED him. It's a great/interesting class about sex/reproduction. I'm a non bio major and I would recommend taking this. no text. just notes. Hard tests, but huge curve. And he's funny.
He is so funny and so sincere! He's a wonderful person and a great professor. Love how he expects the best- it makes you want to meet his expectations. His questions are tricky and you really have to know your stuff but that's the only prerequisite to true learning.
may seem harsh, but very nice and so long as you attend lecture, you will learn about neuro. he expects you to do well so long as you STUDY. just go to lecture, review, and go to office hours. you will eventually learn and understand neurobiology
He's a nice professor but this class was not what I thought it would be. You must study and memorize the notes. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really enjoy learning Biology.
Uzwiak is a nice guy with good intentions, but he's way too smart for his own good. He expects impossible things from the students and his tests are designed to make you fail. You'll learn a lot from this class, but it will also become your ENTIRE life. If this was the only class I was taking, it would still be near-impossible. DON'T expect an A/B.
Toughest exams compared to any other neuro professor. However, he's the most entertaining and smartest professor you'll ever have. Full comprehension and MANY MANY hours of studying is an absolute requirement for taking Uzwiak. Toughest professor ever, you'll work ten times as hard as you would for any other professor, but its worth it in the end(?
awful. just dont take it. i mean i passed but genuinely hated this class
Cool proffesor kept class somewhat entertaining but you dont have to go just study out of the book, although he does give questions that are not in the book at all thats why i got B. Huge Curve
Took him or Bio Society and Biomedical Issues. He's a funny and nice guy. Class is for non-science majors, and it was hard. Don't need to go to class, all the notes are on his website. Exams are really hard! You need to know everything about bio for an exam. We talked about issues in lecture, but not on the exam. Grades are on a curve.
Took human sex and biomed issues. Lots of material, READ the slides. He's very entertaining and knows his stuff. Doesnt take attendance, but class makes the material alot less overwhelming for non majors
best science professor i have had, because he challenges you, and that is exactly what a university like Rutgers needs to keep pursuing, the challenge-response theory.Besides his excellent teaching style, he remembers me of a lesson my dad always tells me, challenge yourself, adore the mysterious, because the passion and spirit in us can be the key
worst teacher ever, despite i managed to get an A, most students get a C.he think is the best teacher because of his methods
Very awesome guy, and pretty funny too. BUT, LISTEN TO THIS ADVICE: AVOID HUMAN SEXUALITY AT ALL COSTS. IF YOU ARE NOT A BIO OR SCIENCE MAJOR IT WILL BE HELL FOR YOU. I MANAGED TO ACHIEVE A C ONLY BECAUSE OF THE CURVE HE GAVE. TAKE SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!
He's a very nice guy and trys to answer all of his students questions. But he's extremely disorganized!! And complains a lot about working at RU, TCNJ and commuting, if he can't commit to all his classes like a teacher should then he shouldn't teach so many classes!! His exams are hard and take info you know to relate it to something else.
Took Fundamentals of Neurobio with Uzwiak; great guy, great professor. GO TO LECTURE. VERY hard tests, but not impossible if you study/go to class regularly and really spend time on it.
Not an easy class although Uzwiak is a nice guy and good lecturer. If you miss class he posts the notes online but it is hard to read and become frustrating that you may look for other sources for info since there is no book. 3 50 question M/C exams and 100 question M/C final. Good luck non majors!!
great class but very difficult!!! Uzwiak is very smart a teaches well but expects a lot on the exams therefore to pass you pretty much need to attend every class. A big help is to actually record each lecture because the exams are only on lecture... NOTHING is used from the book.
he is a nice, funny guy and teaches well in lecture but no matter how hard you study for exams, unless you've memorized every single minute detail (he says to just know the bigger ideas but questions on his exams are so unfairly specific!!!) they are almost impossible!
Nice guy. His exam are just crazy hard. The questions are so hard to understand and are so confusing. I am working my butt off to just get a C.
He may seem nice, but his exams are insanely hard especially his lab praticals. All I can say is good luck if youre taking him.
Relies on drawing messy diagrams full of misspelled and unlabeled scribble. Disjointed lectures & poor supplementary materials. Covers information very superficially & administers disproportionally hard tests. Tries so hard to trick students on examinations that many questions are on the verge of not making any sense. Funny guy though.
Tips for taking a class with Anthony:go to lecture (his online notes are there to supplement lecture, not teach it to you--you'll find that difficult), be careful of WORDING during exams, let him know your name, and last but certainly not least:ASK QUESTIONS DURING EXAMS (do not hesitate on this). tough professor, amazing teacher. him in a nutshell
Getting a good grade is definitely possible, you just need to put a lot of time into this course. GO TO LECTURE WITH A RECORDER, TAKE GOOD NOTES, AND THEN LISTEN TO THE RECORDING LATER ON. If you read over your notes and understand the material, the test won't be too difficult.
pretty good professor although exams are quite difficult. one of my least favorite things about him is that he's really bad at responding back to emails. he complains about how much he hates technology so he literally just won't respond back, which is unhelpful and just rude. as someone else said it'd be good to let him know your name (in person).
Absolutely heart-breaking hard work is required for his summer bio classes. You will feel like you know nothing, because you must KNOW absolutely every little detail from lecture to do well in this class. Don't take any other classes at the same time. Nice guy, but a bit full of himself and his knowledge. No attendance taken, but go anyway.
very frustrating... i don't think i've ever been so down about a class but i literally cried today while studying.
Absolutely one of the best professor I have ever had. His exams are challenging but expects the most of his students. His summer Biology courses require 100% effort. If you're not willing to put in everything, do NOT take his class. The most important advice would be to bring a recorder,go to every lecture, and make sure he knows your name.
best teacher i've had yet at Rutgers. really fun and has great stories. exams are killer though so just study study study. go to class. don't solely rely on his lecture notes. don't freak out--he's a fun professor so just have fun in his class but when it comes to studying, don't slack off. getting a good grade is very very possible.
absolutely the best and hardest professor I have ever had !
anthonys adorable, hilariously funny, and a complete sweetheart..which is all great, except he doesn't understand that the class is not an informative pass/fail seminar or lecture series, but a requirement, and therefore the grade one gets is crucial. his exams are RIDICULOUSY hard, the hardest exams I ever took @ ru, and I took orgo here...
Dr. Uzwiak is an excellent professor and is truly a genius when it comes to neurobiology. His exams are extremely difficult and only those who really understand the material will succeed, which is how it should be. His methods are "hands-off" but if you go to lecture you will benefit from his extensive knowledge. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
My favorite prof at RU. Very funny and relatable so the lectures are interesting. Always there to help you with class or whatever is going on in your life. Genuine prof that cares which is hard to find a large school. He is brilliant so the exams will kill you.
For Human Sexuality - no textbook required. Provides outlines of all the lectures on his website, so it's not necessary to go to class (although he does keep it interesting if you do, which is a plus if you're taking it at 8:40AM like I did). Good professor.
Human Sexuality class was interesting, alot of information was given. His exams are rediculously hard and i gave up on studying for them because he tries to trick you anyway. attendance wasnt necessary but he uses alot of class lecture on the exams.
Most brilliant professor at Rutgers! Loved every minute of his lectures. His exams are no joke tho, a lot of work! I had 1300 notecards for his final. If you REALLY work its not that hard to pull an A - he curves the exams a lot!
Dr. Uzwiak is a great professor. He is a very intelligent man and knows everything you would want to know about the subject. His exams are ridiculously hard and he bases them off of his lectures. Attend lecture, take notes (especially drawings) and go to office hours. He is truly a great profesor.
great prof, just dont take biomedical issues, so much work just to fulfill a requirement. choose a different science
Biology, Society, and Biomedical Issues was an interesting class - but don't be fooled, it's basically a straight up bio class. I'm a bio major and I thought the exams were RIDICULOUSLY hard - study his lecture notes AND practice questions, and watch out for A, B, C, A and B, A and C, or all of the above on exams. Overall good class! He's nice too!
Biomed and social issues class. 8 40 in the morning made lectures hard to attend, but it was definitely necessary to do well on exams. his exams are harder than necessary for non bio majors, but he curves so that your performance is relative to everyone in the class. however, somehow science majors are allowed in which skews the results.
He knew what he was talking about, but it was occasionally hard to follow. While attendance isn't mandatory, it sure helps a lot. He's willing to go over material with you personally, but only if you can show you tried to understand it by yourself first. Best way to study: use study guides and list out all confusing info from his website and notes.
Uziwak is a true boss. I have him for nuerobiology and he really knows his stuff. His tests are hard, but I feel that the student body respects him because they know he is trying to teach us how to think. I had him for nuerobiology.
Hands down, best professor I have ever had at Rutgers. His version of Neurobiology is WELL beyond Auerbach's but if your interest is in Neuro, TAKE HIM. He is absolutely brilliant when it comes to Neuro. As much as I hated his exams, he just wants us to understand the material and apply it. Excellent practice for MCAT questions!
While the professor is nice, his exams are VERY difficult. No matter how hard you study, the questions pinpoint the smallest and ambiguous details. I wouldn't recommend taking this unless you have to!
Very nice guy, EXTREMELY HARD PROFESSOR. If you are up for a challenge, take Uzwiak. His exams are impossible and the content is extremely detailed. Interesting class, but a lot of info and never ending amount of studying. Studied so hard, got a C, and was happy with that considering how hard it is. Take him at your own risk!
This is a very difficult course. Biology-based material. Although interesting material to learn, it is overwhelming to memorize. Exams are tricky and detailed. Despite all of this, he gives a GENEROUS curve (3 exams - drops the lowest and 1 final). He makes the course a lot more lively and interesting especially because it's an 8AM class.
Interesting class, but I did not find him to be a great professor. Often unclear in his explanations, tests, and handwriting. Tends to start thoughts without completing them. Likes to rant. Test questions are difficult, made more so by atrocious grammar mistakes. Yet curve is huge and with the right amount of studying a good grade is manageable.
His exams are ridiculously difficult. Although he curves them to average 75 it can still f*ck you over. If you can't out-perform the rest of the class you're going to get a mediocre grade regardless of how well you know the material. Aside from that he's a nice, funny guy and gives decent lectures, but his exams are 100% bullsh!t.
Don't take Uzwiak if you're lazy and expect to just get an A or B without putting in the effort. Nevertheless, he is definitely one of the best professors I've had at Rutgers. He gives very clear, thorough lectures and is very helpful. The exams are very difficult but curved so that they average to a C. Definitely record the lectures.
What a guy!! First, he doesnt teach at all and waste all class time with lame stories. Then, the EXAM ARE IMPOSSIBLE to do well on. You study weeks and still end up with a C( with a curve). Hes really UNFAIR and lazy to respond to email. His own TAs think his class is Med or grad level. Dont take any class that has anything to do with him.... PLZ
Took this professor summer 2012 and got an A. DON'T READ THE TEXTBOOK. Know his lecture notes like the back of your hand. Exams are crazy hard. Know the material well enough that you can spot minor errors and you will get an A. You have to study 2x more for bio 2. Tutoring is recommended as well as loads of practice problems.
I took bio 101 and 102 this past summer with uzwiak and it was extremely challenging. you dont have to go to lecture and you dont have to read the book, at all!! just know his lecture notes and try to get used to his testing style, it can be tricky but you can certainly get the hang of it. get tutoring and go to him for office hours..and study hard
This guy is such a nice professor. People are just lazy enough to talk about how hard this class is. if you are motivated to do well, you'll do well, since you have an awesome professor with awesome notes. I highly recommend him for those who want to benefit.
this is how you will feel after his exams: you're feeling like you just can't win, but you're trying It's hard to keep on keepin' on, when you're being pushed around Don't even know which way is up, just keep spinning down, 'round, down…
He is the smartest man I have ever met. His class is so hard, tests are impossible, do not take this class unless you have to.
Don't but a book, just attend the lectures. The tests are near impossible so it could be a gpa killer. He knows his stuff but he is a hard teacher. He has a curve so if you study A LOT you can pull off a C+
Great professor but his class is just another specific biology class instead of focusing on the sociology or issues in the title. So if you have trouble with bio i wouldn't take this class. Only gives out important info in lectures and tests are ridiculous even though he's a good, well-organized teacher.
To echo what previous people have said, he's an excellent teacher and an excellent lecturer. However, his exams don't reflect what he teaches in class. If I had not taken the level of biology classes that I had prior to taking this course, I would have been utterly lost. Since that's not me, I have an A, but I don't expect that my case is everones
I'm only in this class because it is mandatory for my major. I'm a freshman and am constantly so lost. I work my butt off studying and have never gotten anything higher than a C. He is way too fast paced and I will never succeed in this class. I have cried so many times in one semester just because of this course. Don't take unless you have to!!
Having some background knowledge of anatomy definitely helped going in. He is an excellent lecturer and raconteur, however, his tests are extremely thorough and loaded with minute details that can only be known from hours of studying. He is a VERY generous curver though, so do your best and he will do the rest.
Uzwiak is a friendly and highly intelligent guy. You MUST attend lecture to do well. The times I have missed lecture, I did not know that material as well. His tests are difficult, but as long as you put in the effort, it is possible to do well on the tests even without prior info. However, he warns you that most people will get a C.
I only took this class because i thought it would be about the Social aspects of biology issues, but this is a straight bio course. Test were impossible for me, and very frustrating. How I even managed a C is beyond me. Thank goodness for his generosity with the grading!
Good professor, with personality, sense of humor at times. As he said he comes from a medical school, so his exams and even lectures are extremely long and rigorous. I think he curves the grade, or else no one would pass. Good teacher, difficult and complex subject to teach.
GO TO LECTURE! interesting class, take lots of notes and pay attention. refer back to online notes to clarify. he goes on tangents, draws confusing pictures, basically a bio class! i ended up with a B+, but i REALLY worked for it! uzwiak is very smart and very challenging, but a great professor nonetheless. study and you will do well!
Most intelligent man i have ever met. Best professor i ever had, but HOLY T1TS his exams are hard. Really cares that you learn the material and you will, not that it will help on the exam though. You have to think like a neurobiologist to answer his questions and even then its hard. Great class if you actually want to learn the material.
Don't take courses with Uzwiak if you don't have to. He's an extremely tough professor. He also makes sure that people who shouldn't be in premed don't get into premed by averaging out the class average to a C. Definitely attend and record all lectures if you can.
His exams are like taking an AP test every four classes. It is possible to do well in his class if you study hard, but some people aren't used to this rigorous style of learning. I was always the type to cram, but this class has forced me to improve my study skills. I definitely learned so much, and he's such a charming, friendly guy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Most of the people drop the class because it is absolutely impossible. No textbook and he gives choppy lectures and then expects you to study an impossible amount of info for each lecture from his website. Save yourself from a bruised GPA.
Smart, helpful, and comprehensible. However, his test are at a different level of thinking. You must approach his test at a linear fashion.
He is a great teacher, I learned a lot, but his exams are the worst.
Best professor @ rutgers- HANDS down.. You learn a lot of infomation.. his tests are hard... but thats only because students are used to taking tests that require little thinking.. Spend a lot of time getting the concepts down and memorize what needs to be memorized and if you can out perform the average, a "A" is def. manageable
He is a great lecturer, but his exams are really difficult. It is not hard getting a B as long as you perform better than the avg. If you decide to take him study only his lecture notes and pervious exams.
Best professor I have ever had! Really nice guy but his exams are really hard. However, if you study his lecture notes, bring a recorder to class, and study hard you will be fine. An A is definitely doable. Dont bother even buying the book. I took the summer session if that means anything.
He is possibly one of the hardest professors at Rutgers. His exams are extremely hard and you need to work really hard if you want to do well. If you don't need to take him at all, then don't! His exam questions I've heard are similar to MCAT questions, so beware.
Don't buy the book, you'll never use it! Class is very enjoyable and interesting, there's not much work involved, but man are the exams hard! I recommend recording lectures and really knowing them all the way through! Don't expect him to email back, go to office hours! Be ready to study a lot!!
I took bio 102 over the summer and got an A in bio 101 during the school year. You definitely dont need the book for 102 but he doesn't do much teaching in class. He is a really nice, personable guy but he simply reads through the notes word for word. The exams are ridiculously hard,I would have gotten an A if it was offered during the school year
He is definitely not an easy professor, but I would recommend taking his class. He gives great notes and you do not need to purchase the textbook. As long as you go to EVERY class and record the lectures to listen to when you study, you should be fine. He always stays after class to help you with anything you are confused on.
He is the best teacher in all of rutgers. he seriously cares about what you learn and the fact that you will use it when you get out of college. everyone should take his class. The crazy workload will benefit you so much later on.
Explains lecture topics clearly and is willing to help, the only downfall is there are two exams and a final. the exams are extremely difficult, take class with caution.
Dont take the class if you are a freshman. There is no textbook and no hws, no way to boost your grades. Grade is based off of 3 exams. Dont understand how this class is open to freshman considering the difficulty.
HATED this class. 30 question exams for 150 points. People who study for hours will still do awful on the exams, so don't waste your time. Your grade in his course is about how well you can answer his test questions, not about how well you know the material
His class is very interesting and helpful; however the exams are so difficult. We need to understand rather than recite. But if u work hard you can get good grades.
This class is tough. Uzwiak's exams are very hard to do well on, however he makes the stuff you're learning interesting and easy to understand. Overall, he's a good guy with a positive disposition. You don't use a textbook at all so you only rely on your notes/the notes he posts online (which aren't very detailed)
Watch out for your GPA, ruins opportunities for dedicated students. Take this class with a different professor and save yourself the bs.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO. This class ruined my mental health freshman year. Nice guy if you talk to him one on one but IMPOSSIBLE to get in contact with since he doesn't answer emails. Exams are impossible regardless of how much you study. This class will ruin your self esteem.
Difficult exams since its made by him and not the department which isn't fair and every student should have the same amount of difficulty both during the year and summer. Summer is tough in itself and he makes it WORSE. only oadasis students do well because the advantage they have!
He should've taken expos before teaching the course. So many mistakes on the exam from awk wording to spelling errors. Don't understand why he made the exam tougher than it really was with his wording and error.
The class is very interesting and he definitely gives you enough material to make notes to study from (no text books), but dear lord, his tests are MADE to fail you. I passed Organic Chem with a B- but simply couldn't handle his tests! I feel like many of the questions were trick questions, too. Unfortunately, I need this class for my major.
It is a difficult class, but if you put the time in to actually understand the material it is fair. His tests are not generated to make you fail, but to test your knowledge rather than have you regurgitate information. Also, curves are generous. He is very knowledgable and helpful. I recommend recording the lectures and reading the textbook as well.
He is really smart and interesting, but his exams are hard. If you take him, make sure you don't have many other sciences classes along with his class. If your looking for an east A or B, this is not the class. Attendance is mandatory. don't get the book. class is lecture based. Most people record the lectures.
He's kinda full of himself, but nice. He gives you a lot of info but does not use powerpoint lectures or use the book. He gives you an outline and writes random stuff on the board. I learned nothing. His exams are impossible as well. Take Fund of neuro in the Fall if possible.
Will teach completely irrelevant subjects during lectures. rants about nothing. tests have nothing to do with material learned in class. nice guy though.
He is a nice person, but I find his tests to be unfair. No matter how much you study, you can still fail. Tests are multiple choice. The questions are designed to trick you and there are a bunch of "EXCEPT" questions on each assessment. Classes are graded on a curve. He has a bunch of loyal class pets. I absolutely despise him.
He's a great guy, and I enjoyed listening to him, but his lectures are far too difficult. He claims it's a class for non-science majors, but he teaches it just like a bio course. One of the hardest courses I've taken.
uzwiak is wonderful, he's a great guy who cares about his students. BUT, if youre not too keen on learning very specific facts about biology, don't take the class. i got a 70 and 75 on my two exams. you can easily fail though, trick questions galore. he's really intellectual and brilliant though, overall great guy.
I have a lot of respect for this professor because he's definitely very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. But this class is nuts. It's meant to be for non-science majors but I'm a Biochem major and I got a B. His tests are SO tricky and I feel like he doesn't really talk about issues in science anymore than a regular Bio class does.
By far the hardest class I've taken. Dr. Uzwiak is definitely a genius and will work to prepare you for the medical field. Not the typical Anatomy class we all took in high school. Read up before lecture, study afterwards. Such a nice guy too. You'll learn a lot in this course but it's certainly not easy. DON'T SKIP LECTURE.
This is the most difficult professor I have yet to come upon. It is NOT about knowing the material, it is about being a good test taker and being able to catch the tricks on his exams. Studying for hours doesn't save you. Thankfully his end curve does to a lot of good to at least help students pass. Go to lecture!! Do not feel obligated to read.
I won't lie, this class is hard because of the amount of material that you have to know. Don't bother buying the Seely's text, just make sure to have the Lab Manual and to mainly study off of that and lecture notes. As tough as the class is, most people I've talked to did pretty well so don't be too intimidated... just make sure that you study!
The best professor i've had at Rutgers. Hard as hell but I'm excelling in my neuro class in medical school because of him. I will never forget how much knowledge and the way of thinking he has given me and even wrote my letter of rec. He wants you to succeed, you just need to put the effort in and you'll get the A.
memorize as much of his lecture notes as you can, quizzes and exams beyond difficult. extremely nice though
Dr. Uzwiak knows everything about what he's teaching by memory. You can tell he is passionate about teaching, especially educating the future healthcare professionals. As a nursing major, this class is the only anatomy class we are allowed to take. It was the most stressful class in the world. But you learn a lot and learn to work hard.
Great professor, you need to record and remember everything he says. He has online practice that is way too easy compared to the exams. The exams are very tricky, but the curve is generous. He wants students to learn and take something from the class and he does a good job of it. Although I got a B, this was one of the best courses I've taken.
A & P IS AN AMAZING SUBJECT. But Uzwiak is the scariest professor (in terms of brains) you will ever meet. He is the smartest professor at Rutgers. CAUTION: TAKE ONLY IF NECESSARY! He weeds out people from the medical path if you can't take his class. His class WILL cause you mental pain and stress. You will lose your social life. Good luck!
This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but I've also learned more in one semester than the rest of my classes combined. He knows it's difficult, but he's extremely helpful and loves answering questions. DO NOT fall behind, constantly review his online lecture notes, and take advantage of lab time. fantastic person and class!
He is a great professor! But his exams and quizzes require strenuous amount of studying. In the middle of the semester, this class gave me so much stress. I'm just happy I passed. Onto Anatomy & Physiology II
Took essentials of Human Reproduction with him. He is a great lecturer, great person and really interesting. His exams are hard but he curves them so as long as you go to class and listen to what he has to say you will get a good grade.
Fantastic professor, brutally hard exams. No matter how I did on the exams I learned more than I had with any other teacher ever. So much important information and it's all really interesting. If you care more about learning than the grade, take this class.
He made me understand what it takes to be a good student. You can not be lazy in this class. He goes though the material quick. Make sure you record his lectures then listen to them and update your notes. Some advice is to be attentive to details., watch extra videos, go to tutoring. Even though the course is difficult he is a great and fun guy.
This class will become the focal point of your semester. Go to class. His photographic memory remembers who is there. He is more likely to help you out or write you a rec. letter if he remembers you. His notes online are your bible, not the book. Listen to his recordings on repeat. You will walk away knowing so much.
Uzwiak is a great professor/person he knows what he's talking about in fine detail, his exams reflect his knowledge. The questions really require intense memorization as they are designed to make you second guess yourself. He teaches you a lot and the exams are pretty ridiculous but doable if you study for a while Final is practically impossible.
Personally, he is AWESOME! But academically, it is like we are in med school! I failed and I have to retake it :( . He teaches you that you need to STUDY your ass off the whole time with him. Good luck!
Nice guy and I definitely learned a lot, but his exams are poorly worded and most of the time you're just trying to understand his grammar. He tests on material not covered in lecture and posts practice questions with wrong answers. Some lectures are taught very well, and others are not very clear. Too much stress and time put into this class.
Good professor and knows a lot of information off the top of his head, but can give EXTREMELY ambiguous exams that test nothing more than rote memorization. If you are good at memorizing or want a sampling for medical school, take this class.
Not sure how others have rated him so positively. "Best Tags" should include--demeaning, self-centered, braggadocios, and gave off a creepy feeling,
Professor Uzwiak is a really nice guy but he is a really hard professor. He is super passionate about every topic he teachers, but he's hard to keep up with sometimes. He expects his students to have good background knowledge from previous bio classes. Your grade is only 2 exams a cumulative final, so if don't take this class if you dont test well.
Took this as a guy who hates science but needs to take a "bio" course. Thought it would be very easy. I was wrong. All he does is lecture with few notes. No powerpoints or notes. He gives a "study guide" out before every test. But he gave us the study guide for the final less than 24 hours before the exam. Good guy, but not a good teacher
He is a great guy, but provides no information. His entire course is him discussing whatever he wishes. He sends his notes less than a day before the exam. DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE NOT A BIO MAJOR.
The topics were all over the place. We didn't even get to go over the entire syllabus. There is no book or any reference material except the test guides he emails you before the exam, and all you need is there so going to class is useless. He keeps repeating the same points and takes forever to explain a concept and is all over the place.
Uzwiak is a really personable guy. He presents you with all the material you need to pass, but it is HARD and takes a LOT of studying. A&P will be hard no matter where you take it, so I'm grateful that he is so knowledgeable & helpful. Got a B avg (with curve) and he bumped me to an A without me even asking. Just do your best and show it!
One of the hardest classes I have taken at Rutgers thus far. No book powerpoints or anything to guide you except for his talking during lectures. I studied so much for the exams more than any other class ever and got a B with curves on each test. Not an easy class don't take it "for fun" really nice guy though super funny and kind, you learn a lot
He is an AMAZING lecturer, and i don't think I've ever learned as much information as efficiently in any college class ever. His exams are INSANE tho, the highest score s usually well below an 80% before the curve. He says his exams come straight from the lectures, but there's a lot of random Q's on exams he never went over. Many ppl do poorly :(
Great professor. Actually teaches. TO do well go to class & record and replay everything he says. Exams are hard and you need to understand what's going on because rote memorization can only take you so far (if even somewhere ...). Study hard & he is 100% the best
Anthony has very good lectures, but his exams are probably the roughest I've ever taken. You have to really study and know your stuff if you want to be ahead of the curve.
Hardest class I've ever taken. He "teaches" us one thing and gives us a test on a completely different thing. It's ridiculous and his tests are impossible.
Professor U is a really smart, interesting guy and he gives amazing lectures. But the style of his class is definitely not for everyone. Your grade is dependent upon 3 exams, no hw or attendance/participation points. If you're like me and would rather study hardcore once in a while than do hw and attend class all semester, take this course
My least favorite professor. Prof Uzwiak makes this class extremely difficult & detailed, even though it's for non-science majors. No textbook or resources to reference except for his poorly written note outlines. His lectures are confusing, he goes on rants, and he's snarky & rude to students. He's a good scientist but a HORRIBLE teacher. Avoid.
I loved Dr. Uzwiak! This class isn't great to take as a freshmen, it's better if you've learned how to study your own way before taking it. You need to be able to memorize details and everything he talks about in lecture. It's a good class for good test takers. He appreciates hard work and if you make conversation with him. There's a curve.
This class is honestly probably the hardest class youll ever take. But I will say it is totally worth it. as long as do the work and study hard youll do well. I took this class as a prerequisite for OT school, and it helped prepare me profoundly for my graduate level classes. My graduate level anatomy class was a breeze After taking this course
Dr. Uzwiak is great. I learned so much from him. Anatomy is supposed to be difficult, and he makes it fair. I feel really prepared to be a good health professional by his class.
Took Neuropsych w/Mayhew at the same time, and it helped a lot for this class, especially on the 1st exam. His personality is love it or hate it, but he made class interesting. Very good prof. Only uses the blackboard but lets you record. Learned lots, but not sure how well exams reflected that. For us, a final 87.5% avg (already scaled) was an A.
This class is the hardest class I have encountered here at Rutgers. His exams are so tricky with so many information that its so hard to grasp. I got a D twice in his class. I swear, if bill taught lecture, everyone will pass.
Don't be turned off by any negative comments from those that did poorly (aka the kids who either didn't care or didn't know how to study). He genuinely cares about his students, so put in the work & you'll get an A or B. If you don't want to take this class because you're afraid it'll ruin your GPA then you just lack confidence in yourself.
He is a hard professor and his exams are difficult, but there is a lot of curve. I studied not too hard for an exam and didn't out that much time into it and managed to get a B. You just have to pay attention in class (record the lesson if your smart and wanna do good), I can guarantee you'll at least get a B or A. Just don't be lazy.
Amazing prof, genuinely cares about the success of students & is very enthusiastic. He doesn't make it easy though, you have to go to lecture (he lets you record) & you need to make sure you study his notes. Book can be found online(he doesn't care what edition). Only graded on 3 tests, test are very hard but he has a huge curve, so it works out!
These comments are all so true. However, he has smart kids and you will have a blast in his class. Jk. Very tough tests indeed. Work hard everyone!! Good luck on all your exams much love.
Do not take Bio, Soc, Biomedical Issues with him if you are not a science major!! I found it very difficult to keep up with the content (I'm a business major) and course grade is solely on midterms and finals. Tests on lots of content and very biology heavy (Barely any talk about biomedical issues).
He was a nice guy and extremely intelligent, but I feel like sometimes he forgets that his students do not know nearly as much as he does. His exams are ridiculously hard! Success on tests and quizzes is more so based on knowing how he words questions, not so much knowing the material thoroughly.
He's a very intelligent person- and holds others to the same standard as him. His exams are difficult and oddly worded (don't point out spelling errors he'll kill you). He tells a lot of funny stories mixed in with lectures, and sometimes completely derails from the current topic. Overall he may be difficult but you can tell he actually cares.
3.5. I think that he's one of the hardest, yet smartest professors at Rutgers! His lectures are long and sometimes really confusing, but he truly is knowledgeable about his stuff. The class is really hard, but the curves are also really great. A lot of people record his lectures but you don't have to, you can just read his lecture notes
Lovely person & extremely smart, but by far the worst professor I have ever had. He constantly goes off on tangents about himself, & his tests are extremely specific & cover stuff not mentioned in class. No textbook, no slides, pure lecture and multiple choice tests. Do NOT take his class unless you are a stem major. Lovely person, just awful prof.
this class is very hard but doable with the curves he sets. lectures are very disorganized, he just rambles on whatever's off the top of his head. very nice guy who clearly knows his stuff, but exams are ridiculously specific and sometimes on stuff not discussed in class. Take lab with Bill and you should be fine, as long as you memorize lectures
This class is nowhere near as hard as people in the comments have made it out to be! As long as you take detailed notes and study, you'll get a good grade.
What a guy I didnt get an A in this class but this class was the most interesting class ever. If you want an easy do not take it with him but if you actually want to learn something take this class. I took it because I thought it was interesting. No regrets amazing class.
You definitely need to work hard all year. Record lectures, take notes, & copy down everything he puts on the board. I'm not sure the book was of much use besides maybe clarifying a couple things. Its kinda up to you how you study and learn, but he doesn't pass everyone so beware of rumors. I passed both semesters but it's not easy. Stay focused.
Completely inaccessible outside of class, doesn't answer emails, doesn't show up to office hours, doesn't post practice questions despite telling us he will. His tagline is "my exams are harder than the MCATs!" This is true. Not because material is difficult, because his exams are confusing. He's a good lecturer, but his exams almost feel random.
its both great and terrible that he doesnt use powerpoints. he makes a lot of mistakes, so you have to learn his version of the material and the correct version, assuming you care about learning things that are correct. this isnt a huge deal but was frustrating at time. he brags more than anyone ive ever met
I'm in the Nursing School. As a freshman who never took anatomy or AP Bio/Chem in high school, A&P broke me. I thought I would be ok if I attended every lecture and studied for the exams/quizzes but no. You need to be good at memorization or have the will to force yourself to remember it all. He's the main reason I'm transferring to Rutgers Newark.
Anthony's tests are impossible but the curve is huge. You think you are failing until you somehow don't.
really good lecturer, never met a person smarter than him literally a walking anatomy book but his tests are very difficult and you really need to prepare from them to get a good grade; however he does curve everything so even if you don't do amazing you should be fine. all of his tests and quizzes are based on his lectures so record them
Don't recommend-Gives 20+ page packets to study right before the exam, half the content in packets are never taught in lecture nor tested on in the exams. Class is made of 3 multiple choice tests, but VERY DIFFICULT. Questions are convoluted-Barely responds to emails! Promises samplequestions-never sends them. Only pro- curves grade & good lectures.
Professor was all over the place. He would post the notes less than a week before the exam/test, & it was pages of things that were never discussed. Name is Biology, Society, & Biomedical Issues, but it was just a biology class. No interesting biomedical issues & how it affected society. Too many things to know off the top of your head. Rate:-2/10
Not accessible over email, does not care about what you say or think. he wont admit hes wrong or has made a mistake. his exams are literally made at my dinner table the night before, so ignore the steal sauce if you see any on your paper. i think this guy thinks hes hot stuff but i have learned nothing from him. i had to teach myself. DO NOT TAKE
With how laid back the lectures were, especially because there is no powerpoint or textbook, I thought the exams would be a breeze. They were not. There are only three exams with no other graded assignments, so you should really have a background knowledge of biology for this course. Fortunately, the class was curved.
His classes are him talking for 1 hr and 20 min straight. Had him during the pandemic and he would not answer any emails. He told us there was an exam 3 days before it was scheduled and gave us our final one week later. He drops one exam grade which is nice and lectures are not mandatory, but if you miss it then good luck on passing.
He really cares about his students learning! His teaching is extemporaneous and he knows the material very well! Very dedicated to teaching! the class is lecture heavy! if you put in the work the class is easy!
It is really hard to reach him outside of class. Doesn't tend to answer emails. His tests are always very difficult, very biology heavy. He has been very accommodating during the online semester, and is very flexible with due dates and assignments. His lecture are always memorable, even if they are long.
Exams are HARD. 5 exams, drops lowest one. Cumulative final. 2 lab quizzes and a lab midterm and final practical. Exams are so hard and so time restrained. You get 90 seconds per exam q and 2 mins per lab slide (with 4 qs on it). Not an easy class AT ALL. You have your work cut out. However, he does curve exams and practicals so I guess that's a +.
Anthony is a great guy and super flexible. But for his tests you can really only rely on his lectures (no outside resources) which makes it difficult o study with because he does not explain very well. You get no homework so your grade consists of only tests and quizzes. Everything does get "scaled" though which boosts your grade.
Uzwiak is passionate about what he teaches. Ive heard he can be cool in person, but virtual class with him was not easy. He goes off on tangents and gets irritated if you ask questions. Hes impossible to reach outside of class and is very unclear with his expectations of students.
i actually worked hard for this class and still ended up not getting an A, so the curve isnt even that great. in order to do well, take A LOT of notes on lectures and textbook. I had at least 60 pages of notes for EACH of the 6 exams. i emailed him like 14 times and he responded 3 months later. never answers any emails.
I had this professor for 2 semesters, A&P l and ll, my recommendation is to keep up with the lectures/material and dont fall behind. Anthony is a genius, knows his stuff, and truly wants to you to learn and do well. You will learn a lot but exams are difficult. BUT he curves like crazy and somehow you just dont fail lol.
I took A&P I and II. It is easy to fall behind but make sure that you keep up with all the lectures. His exams are difficult, but you can do well. There is so much to learn and he does a good job presenting the information. I had both professors for lab but I did do better with Bill. It wasn't easy but if you really put in the work you'll be fine!
Had him for 2 semesters, online, A&P I & II. He is not good at answering e-mails. He is kind, VERY knowledgeable about the human body. Had 5 hourly exams, 1 final. Drops lowest hourly exam and replaces it with the average of the other 4. It is a hard class, but watch all lectures and take LOTS of notes. You cannot cram for these exams successfully
Prof is impossible to reach, claims his class is extremely difficult because students dont know how to study yet, as most are freshmen nursing students. In reality, his tests are poorly written and he seems satisfied that his students receive failing raw scores. Interesting material in lecture but prof seems to be on a power trip with his students.
Professor Uzwiak's class is one of the most difficult classes at Rutgers. He makes you memorize every detail about the body. Although his tests are very hard and confusing he gives an amazing curve which helps most students. He's very smart and knows everything about the body!
Professor Uzwiak is one of the most difficult professors I've had in all my college experience. No matter how much you study, you are never prepared enough for his exams as they are EXTREMELY confusing and difficult.
Also a freshman nursing student, the professor is very confusing as he uses high vocabulary and scribbles on the chalkboard of diagrams. He has a lot of knowledge however the way how he presents it is very challenging to comprehend. Make sure to study and I highly recommend taking general psychology with Anatomy 2 not Anatomy 1 for nursing students
This professor is very hard! Even if you study every hour of the day you still won't do good.
By far one of the worst professors I ever had during my time here at Rutgers. Does not explain things very well, expects us to have a solid foundation. Makes it extremely difficult for a 100 level course. I would recommened taking A&P at a community college.
He makes me hare my life. Tests are horrible does not matter how much you study you will not do well might as well just guess.
Is Anthony tough? Yes. I got an A in his class and there is no doubt his class it tough. However, you will learn so much. Are his exams tough? Yes. You will need to know the material fully and even then you are confused by his exams. However, he genuinely does care and if you take some time to study, you will learn so much about A&P.
Professor Uzwiak is THE BEST teacher Rutgers will EVER offer. you will learn A LOT about biology in a way that will keep you interested in biology throughout your academic career. Unlike most professors here at Rutgers, he teaches everything based on his memory. He doesn't use terribly done and zero-effort-copy-paste presentations.
I had to take this class with him and it was a struggle. The only things that are graded are exams that are complicated. You have to attend class or you're not gonna pass. He only talks during lectures and uses the chalkboard to draw pictures/diagrams. You have to study heavily. Don't take a class with him if there's another professor available.
Dr. Uzwiak is hands-down the best lecturer I've had at Rutgers. He does not use any type of PowerPoint, he simply stands up, talks, and draws on the chalkboard. This makes it easy to follow his lecture and take notes. However, because he does not use PowerPoint, it is necessary to attend class because he does not upload notes. Brilliant professor.
This class made me depressed. Only graded by exams. Need to attend lectures to understand what you EXACTLY need to know. Need to study in depth. Knowing the overview of the chapter ain't gonna cut it. He is considerate though because I was supposed to end with a B but he saw my improvement over the semester and bumped me up to an A.
Anthony is by far one of the hardest teachers I have ever had. All he does is draw on a chalkboard and speak during the lectures, missing class is basically a death sentence as you won't really understand the concepts you have missed. He does give notes on canvas but theyre difficult to understand. His tests are heavily curved but really difficult.
Watch and take notes on his pre-recorded lectures before class to prepare and record his in-person lectures so you don't miss anything. Try not to skip any classes. His lab is also very straightforward. Having Anthony was definitely challenging, but you learn a lot. Anthony is very knowledgeable and greatly prepares students for the medical field!
Bro is brilliant. He cares about teaching you so much, but you have to put in 110% of your effort. Make sure to look at all notes he posts. It'll probably be your first semester ever at RU while taking this course, but you can't relax or go party, as much as you want to. As long as you take this class, A&P is your life now if you want that A.
Prioritize studying over having fun because you will be judged based on the performance of others, and it can be tough to recover. Use no outside resources because most exam questions depend on lectures; develop study material entirely on it. Amazing lectures; you will learn so much. It won't be simple, but it is doable :)
A great prof and I learned a lot in his class, but the style of the class may not be for everyone. Only graded based on 3 exams (lowest is dropped) and a final. He doesn't take attendance, but you have to be present for the lectures bec he doesn't use slides. The exams are very hard but curved. This class is great if this format works for you.
He's a really nice guy but his exams will end you. I took this class during the summer so it was very fast paced but he was a much more lenient grader. He DOES NOT use power points and will usually draw everything on the board or just say it. Record him during his lectures because what he talks about will be the things he tests heavily on.
A great caring professor once you know him one on one. He cares deeply about his students and wants everyone to know all the info. He only grades based on exams but curves and doesn't use PowerPoint. You have to be engaged and listen to do well and review every day. But if you go to class, listen to him, and pay attention you'll be good.
His lectures are mainly talking but enjoyable. He would never have a slideshow unless he was showing a diagram/graph. Exams are super super difficult. He claims with this course, there is no need for background bio knowledge but I DO NOT recommend taking this course if you havent taken a previous bio/science course because it will be challenging.
As a nursing major at ru this class is mandatory. Its difficult because he lectures nonstop for the whole class and often goes into detail about material that isnt on the test. He'll say you need to know 'everything' for the exam so study carefully, there are 4 exams + a final. Good news is that he curves everything and rarely fails anyone.
Very difficult professor. If class not required, take with caution. Primarily proactive self studying and lengthy study guides that he posts a few days before. Curve needed cause raw scores are so low. Anxiety over failing and it's you vs class with curves. Confusing tests often with errors. Hand drawn notes that need to be investigated after.
Super nice guy however not a huge fan of his teaching. All hand written drawing and the rest of his lectures is him talking. A lot of the learning is done on your own. Studying hardly helps you get good grades on the tests. Very very wordy and confusing tests.
Worst professor ever- avoid if possible! He lacks empathy believes that if he can learn it so can you although he went to med school and was a practicing neurologist. His tests have so many errors and he refuses to acknowledge that so even though the curve saves your grade you're basically competing with your classmates on who the better guesser is
Writing this as an upcoming senior now in nursing. The course is hard esp for freshmen, but Dr. Uzwiak is such a gem and really encouraged me to keep going down this path. Professors who really TEACH like him and Carew are so rare and these are one of the actual nursing relevant courses I feel like I learned so much.
Professor Uzwiak has such a sweet soul but I WOULD NEVER want to take this course with him ever again. The material is heavy and fast paced. Regardless though it was never enough as his exams are relatively complicated and confusing. The Curve saved me both semesters, as long as you show improvement, he will pass you!
A&P 127/128 with Professor Uzwiak was a VERY difficult class. Your tested on basically everything he says in lectures but his tests are very confusing and often have errors. He seems like a nice person but the way he teaches clearly isn't working bc there is a huge curve and this is hiding the problem.
Attending lectures and studying hard are musts to pass. As a freshman, this course made me realize I had to learn how to actually learn and study. Anyhow, Uzwiak is awesome. He cares about his students and is one of a kind. But the material is REALLY tough; record lectures so you can listen back to it, write good notes, and study early bc it's alot
A god in human form. Uzwiak values learning over random grades. As long as you know the material, you can work with him on improving your grade. He has a more old school style of teaching with the blackboard but doesn't expect you to make notes. He posts clear notes that he types out, which are very reflective of what will be on the exam.
Anthony is very knowledgeable about what he teaches but there's no doubt that this class is extremely difficult especially as a freshmen nursing major. Keys to passing: take good notes/recordings/pictures of the board, attend all lectures if possible, and do everything you can to understand EVERYTHING that's taught.
Easily one of the best professors I have had in my life. For someone who skips 'unnecessary' lectures, I looked forward to Dr. Uzwiak's lectures and learned so much from him. He is very knowledgeable and wants you to succeed. Yes, his exams can be tricky. But they force you to retain the material and really learn. Fantastic mentor and inspiration.
Professor Uzwiak cares deeply about teaching, but this class is really tough, especially for freshmen. Key is to stay on top of lectures, take thorough notes, and use resources like unstuckstudy ai to ace the exams. The material is dense, but doable with dedication.
Anthony brags about how hard the material is, yet attempts to make it harder for us to understand. He writes on the chalkboard in handwriting you can't read and talks fast so it is very hard to keep track of all the notes. He also is not responsive over email for days to weeks and does not explain his grading process. The worst professor ever had.
ok.hes like the only lecture prof but his lectures are pointless unless you already taught yourself the content beforehand. impossible to contact and labs are even worse. curves are "big" because he cant teach. do. not. rely. on. the. curve. test questions are absurd. he's a nice guy but your grade is much more important.
Anthony is a great teacher who truly cares. Many people leave bad reviews about him but those people are usually freshmen and don't know how to study. As a junior in this class, it was easy as long as you put the work in. I used the textbook 80% of the time which helped me earn an A. He curves all exams and the final grade, which really helps.
Anthony is a kind professor who goes out of his way to say hello outside of class. Lecture is important and so is looking through the textbook. Stay on top of studying notes and you will pass. I recommend talking to him before or after lecture if you have a question. Tough content, develop good study techniques. Great curve on exams.
I find his lectures to have no structure. He doesn't use slides so it makes it harder to follow on what he's talking about. Exam questions sound AI generated at times (hard to understand) so you have to know everything if you want a good grade. I had a different lab professor which helped me pass. I would fail if I had him for lab too.
His class is difficult so you need to learn how to study. Take good notes and ask questions when you are stuck or unsure. He is willing to help his students succeed. Quizzes and exams are all curved as well as the final grade. You will learn a lot from him so take it all in and you will do fine.
Really hard class. If you are not studying correctly or dont know how to study it may be very difficult.
Anthony is actually a genius and knows every detail about the human body. A really nice, genuine person who wants everyone to do their best. However, his class is tough and makes you learn how to study. Make sure to write down EVERYTHING he says and thoroughly revise your notes before exams. Curves are huge, but don't rely on them to pass.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but treat it as such. Attend every class (go to both lecture times if you're still confused) take notes, and draw everything. This course is challenging; don't expect high school-type grades. You will succeed if you avoid cramming, study with friends, read the pdf text for clarity, & use his lecture notes/past exams.
Anthony is a great professor that you will learn to love by the time you finish A&P 1 and 2. Its not an easy course and you need to find a good way to study. Attend all the lectures and take good notes. Use the textbook and most importantly the pdf notes he provides they have everything you need to know.
My roommate and best friend took this course and I had to sit and watch them rot over this class. I know more about this man than I care to admit and no good things. I heard stories of girls sobbing and him not caring. PLEASE stay away from him if possible
Smart teacher, but horrible lectures. He would not cover the entire materials during lecture, so definitely look at his notes beforehand and for the study guides. Very difficult to reach through email. Very hard class, it is better to learn it by yourself tbh. Exams are insanely hard, study 2 weeks in advance!
anthony is an interesting one. the class is heavily reliant on the lectures and your ability to pay attention and take notes. for me, i never read the textbook or used external sources to review. i solely relied on his lectures and BOX notes and was able to do well. anthony is terrible at responding to emails, so talk to him in-person. good luck!!!
I left another review for Anatomy 127, but I need to clarify again for Anatomy 128. I earned an A in both classes because I put the work in and used his BOX notes and videos to review Anthony's material! Great teacher! He curves a lot which is really nice! Again, freshman do bad in this class because they don't know how to study efficiently.
a&p I and II are notoriously difficult "weed out" classes but if you know how to study you'll be fine; i used flashcards and active recall and got As. exams are insanely difficult but curves are super generous. anthony's really nice, he talks fast but he teaches well. go to lecture or you won't pass the exams!
Nursing student here, I took A&P 1 + 2 with professor uzwiak. He's a very smart person and expects you to know a lot. He grades on a VERY heavy scale on both lab + lecture assessments and overall ending grade. I know people who ended with a 67 and finished with a C. His class is very difficult but doable, don't expect him to post study material tho
you NEED to study. only way to pass course is actively studying every day after class, asking questions, and not waiting last minute. he does curve exams but you can't rely on that. you need to be putting in effort in this course in order to get a good grade
Very smart guy who knows what he's talking about. His class relies solely on exam grades, which are quite difficult, but he curves each exam. Focus on the Lecture material and the notes he posts on box, which are crucial to succeed.
curves all tests, won't be bad if you have previous anatomy knowledge, just study notes in class and box notes and do the past practice tests and it will be fine
Hard, very in-depth content and super difficult exams (all multiple choice). Exams are very curved though so it is not very hard to pass. Because the tests are hard and so curved, grades are often not representative of actual knowledge. I stopped studying for exams and got the same grades out of luck. Not a fair system. Lab is more fair, but hard.
What a lad, hilarious guy, but he turns into the devil once those exams show up. Studying probably wont save u sometimes u can get the same grade even if u didnt study so be prepared to be disappointed. Only exams which put a lot more pressure on your back but he is a good guy but his class is no joke.
Exams are based on things said in lectures but lectures are so unorganized. Very nice and smart guy, but not the best at making difficult concepts digestible and explaining things at an entry level. Try to have prior anatomy knowledge before taking the course.
An awesome professor, especially if you have him for A&P Lab. Talk to him after the lecture or labs, and he will answer all your questions then. Great Grader also.
