old, boaring, but pretty easy

Tony is knowledgeable, clear, and a teacher, not a researcher (I find that there's a BIG difference). Highly recommended!
excellent prof. a little excentric, but very fair and clear
This dude looks like a mix between the Professor from Back to the Future and a cleaner bum. The guy looks like he should be on a Jerry Springer episode. Boring, lectures unclear, tests distinct, long, difficult but not unbareable only because the material's hard or just detailed.
This is the only chem class for business students, but I would wait until this guy is gone before taking chem. If you didnt have it in highschool dont take it. He stands that the front of the room and mumbles, and his handwriting for his notes are horrible.
He made a difficult subject seem easy. His tests were almost too easy. Many test questions were copied directly from homework. Pace of class was slow and steady. Only stressful thing about it was that the final was worth 50% of your overall grade.

woah, you can tell this dude has messed with some serious chemicals

Exams come right from lecture notes and practice exam. You don't even need the textbook. Really fair.
dont take any of his classes
Very eccentric and....weird...guy, but he's a great teacher and makes things very easy to understand. I had gotten a C in CHEM 1 in Hermansky's class (horrible teacher) but then got an A no problem with this guy with pretty much the same effort. If you want an A in this class, and who doesn't, definitely take this guy.
Wambsgans aka wammy is the most interesting prof u can find... I thought his class was pretty fair. tells the same story 10 times. can be unclear at times. goes over ALOT of material in a short period of time.
boring, sounds like a broken record.
Horrible and unclear.. DONT TAKE HIM
Ramles about stuff once in a while; late for class too often, but his class is as easy as chem 111 could get.
Wambsgans is the best professor ever. Although he mumbles and rambles sometimes (which makes the class more interesting) his lecture is pretty clear, and his exams are fair. If you need help, he will definitely go all out to help you and make sure you understand the material. Take him if you can!
he's a great proffessor who really cares about his students, sure he may not be the most audiable teacher but his proceedure and expressions are clear. He keeps the class intersting by relating some of the subject matter to obscure but intriguing aspects of every day life which really gets you thinking. he's a golden resouce, take him.
There is SO much to cover and you study for 5 hours for the test and it turns out to be only 20 questions..... The final exam is CRAZY HARD, but everyone fails, so he curves it and you end up with all wrong answers but a good grade....!
A bit eccentric, but generally a good instructor for lab.
Terrible teacher but a genuine nice guy.
Even if you fail the final he curves it SO much that basically everyone passes!
Labs are generally easy, but no students have any interest. He will put you to sleep when you actually show up to lecture (but no one does). Good guy though
Very Helpful. got an A+ hollla. one of my only friends at drexel.
Wambsgans is probably one of my favorite professors here definitely looks interesting and teaches pretty well. Made CHEM 101 seem easier than I heard. As far as grading goes he's pretty fair and will help you if you show interest in helping yourself.
Recitations are extremely helpful, they are required (but not lectures, obviously) but they are what will help you succeed in the class. Notes from the book won't actually help you that much, but you should probably pay attention if you're a science-major as everything builds on each other. He's helpful though, OFFICE HOURS!
I took an Orgo Lab with Wambsgans. He is all over the place. He's super airy and half the time I didn't know what he was saying. He gave us one set of grading critera at the beginning and completely changed it halfway through (we ended up submitting everything at the end: lab notebooks and reports). However, he is super smart and hilarious.
Old man who clearly should have retired years ago. Puts no lecture notes or any assignments online to look over. His lectures are horrible and outdated. I would not recommend taking this professor.
Had him as a lab TA and he only graded 1 of our labs. Didn't put final grades in on time and made up some excuses like "Some of you didn't put down your right ID number". Don't take him if you don't have to.
Nice guy. Hard to understand. Very respected and very knowledgeable . He means well but if you do happen to come to his lecture, which no one does, you have a 75% chance of falling asleep
Tony doesn't have any front teeth. It makes explaining organic chemistry a bit more challenging. He introduced lab by discussing all of the ways you can get hydrochloric acid in your eyes. He decided to make lab an extra hour without asking any of the students. Genuinely enjoyed hiking.
Material is incredibly difficult to learn, and especially when you can barely understand a word he is saying. He uses an overhead projector and frequently makes mistakes, leaving a jumbled mess on the screen. Easily the worst professor I've had at Drexel. Does not curve AT ALL, tests are 25 minutes and crazy hard.
Horrible lecturer. I attended every lecture and learned absolutely nothing from him. All of the learning had to be done from the book. Designs horrible tests; barely tests on the tough, real, and applicable concepts. Instead, he selects trivial facts that only appear in 1-2 sentences from the book. Lazy test only based on 20 questions.
Lab was enjoyable with him. He did give like 1-2 hour lectures before the experiments often, but he genuinely cares about chemistry and his students. He is always on top of every safety thing. He basically waited to grade everything at the end of the term, but he cared that everyone learned in the labs. He is nice, caring, smart, and grades easy.
This class was way too easy compared to CHEM 101 and 102, Wambsgans literally prints out all of his lecture notes and hands them to you before he goes over them.. Everything on the exams are what he talks about and if you need any additional help understanding- just read the textbook. Labs were also really easy so that was a grade booster
So the thing is he had exceptionally easy tests but he was the worst lecturer there ever was. Go on his outlines and go to khan academy for everything you don't understand. If he has yield percent on the outline and you don't understand YouTube or khan. He almost gives you the answers on the test. Just know it well enough and you will pass.
His lectures are super boring. He gives out notes in advance and goes through them really quickly. Recitation is lifesaving. He is smart and funny, but just not too good in lecture. Tests are very simple as long as you go over the notes.
Awful professor. I learned more from the textbook than I did from his lectures. His lectures are on one big word document that he projects on the screen, and he will randomly whip back and forth through it. His wording doesnt make any sense. More mistakes than actual words in his lecture documents. Worst professor Ive ever had ever.
Wambsgans is a genuinely nice guy. But his lectures are awful, and he's the only reason this class was hard for me. Doesn't actually specify what you need to know, so I had to read the entire textbook to be ready. His lecture notes are full of typos and chemistry errors, and I could never actually understand anything he said. 0/10 do not recommend
He needs to learn to teach the material to the students, not read it at the students. He should not blame the students for "not studying enough" when the class average for a test was a 50. Hard to understand and will make you fall asleep with how bad of a lecturer he is. This man is lucky he has tenure. You'll be fine in basic chem but not orgo
Due to online learning, I had to move back home to the west coast. We had a midterm scheduled for 8 am EST and I asked if I could take it any other time because I would have to wake up at 5 am and he said no lmfao. He's a greaaaaaat guyyyyyyyy hahahah
Cannot understand him. Relied completely on the textbook. Does not respond to emails in a timely manner. If you get him for an online course, switch out immediately.
He's a very kind and understanding teacher just has a bit of difficulty explaining topics to people who have no clue about anything to do with Chemistry. He puts hours and hours into creating labs and fill in notes for students to better understand the material and is really dedicated to teaching Chemistry to his students.
Professor Wambsgans falls asleep lecturing. HIs class does not make any sense at all unless you are a Chem major. His lectures are on these longgggg word/ disorganized documents which are hard to follow. Save yourself.
Worst lectures I've ever attended. We asked to see what we got wrong on exams, to which he responded that he didn't know how, so no. Truly unforgiving and technologically-challenged. Prepare to teach yourself. Do not take him, especially for online classes.
Lectures were asynchronous and they were basically him just reading what he had on his doc. I couldn't even listen to his lectures because it was difficult to understand what he was saying and there was no point since I can read my self. Just take notes and study them if you have to take him. If not, avoid at all costs.
He means well, but the lectures are impossible to sit through. I read the textbook chapters and did fine on the tests. Not really approachable in the office hours tho. I dont think he knows how to work technology honestly. Worst thing is the grading Exam 1-25%, Exam 2-25%, and Final- 50%. Mess up on a test, and you're done.
His lectures are difficult to follow and a bit disorganized. But I think if you actually purchase the textbook and review the materials before coming to class it would be much better. He's honestly so nice, asking us multiple times during the lectures to ask any questions. I literally emailed him to ask about a problem and he replied within hours.
He is so unorganized and not helpful at all. He never shows up to exams on time and writes his questions last minute (he makes the exam start late while he is still writing questions) You dont learn anything from the lectures so I would definitely avoid this professor.
I had Professor Wambsgans for CHEM 101. A very nice man, but nice does not qualify your ability to teach. Lectures were unorganized and he was always late to our exams. Beware his emails and test questions, as well. Uses 6 fonts and 5 colors, so his messages are nearly illegible. I'd recommend just taking notes from textbook instead of lectures.
I really did not like this class. I took it asynchronous because of COVID and I heard the professor was better when you had him for recitation. All he did was post long confusing lectures, give us practice book homework problems, and assign exams. We had to go on zoom for the exams and they were a bit confusing. Also hard to get ahold of him.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesnt understand basic technology & his lectures are extremely unhelpful, & make the material more confusing. Paying tuition to have him as a professor is a waste because u will be teaching urself. He doesnt think about students having other courses or lives outside his class. Never take his class.
Worst professor ever!!
First off, this guy is an ibn Haram. He doesnt give any assignments and its straight test based grades. Doesnt make anything clear. During lectures had you confused. All students around me dont even know whats goin on. Doesnt try to give practice problems. Even recitations are pointless. I honestly gave him a 1 because the 0 isnt available
horrible professor didn't learn anything in that class. Should not be a professor at Drexel University and should retire asap.
This professor cannot speak correctly, everything he said is hard to understand or nearly impossible, to know what he is saying. His slides are awful, with many typos and he just uses his mouse to high words/equations on the slides. He did not bother to do anything on the board itself, rather than letting us read the whole doc by ourselves.
Honestly, the lectures were pretty useless. The textbook is far more helpful for understanding anything in this class. The slides he shows don't make any sense and are riddled with errors. I can't understand what he's saying. I had him online for CHEM111 and in person for CHEM112, but it doesn't get better. It's only exam grades and he's often late
I had him for chem111 and it was the worse. I did not go to class and taught myself chemistry from the slides he provided. The book was pointless. The only things that are grader are three exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He honestly doesnt care if you pass or fail. He grades very slow; so youd never know if you were passing the class or not.. and he gets smart & does not reply to emails in a timely manner .
This is the worst professor in the history of Professors. If you expect to learn do not take this class. His notes and lectures are useless because it is almost impossible to understand him. It is finals week and I still don't know what grade I got on any of the labs so I have no idea what grade I will finish with.
HORRIBLE>>>>>>>> A whole mess, prepare to teach yourself, you will learn more from Math Tutor that's who I use, this was a online class that is A Sync .... your graded by 3 exams (20 points each) and the finals (40 points each) he's boring, takes very long to grade test.....RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!
Wambsgans genuinely cares about chemistry and wants us to learn. However, sometimes it is hard to understand him. I try really hard to understand what he says, but unfortunately, I can't always make out what he's saying, which makes this class harder than it should be. Course is weighted heavily on exams and attendance is only required in lab.
I went to two lectures, and there were maybe 10 people in the class when there were 200 people in his course. This is because you can't understand what he says and his notes are extremely confusing. Try your best to avoid him and if you have to take him, then look at the other professor's notes instead and you'll have to teach yourself everything.
Literally the worst professor. Hes terrible, hes a thousand years old, you cant understand what hes saying, you will fall asleep in his lecture and he reads from a script.
He only have three assignments. His lectures will put you to sleep. You will have to read the entire textbook to understand anything. The only people saying nice things were people that had him 20 years ago when he was still at a decent teaching age.
Prof. Wambsgans is a nice guy but you be better off learning through the textbook. I was able to pass his class solely off reading from the textbook.
This man has absolutely no business teaching anyone anything. I could teach this class better I'm only taking it bc its required for my major.
This man has no business teaching ANYTHING. I could have taught it better; I'm literally only taking this bc its a required course.
He has no business teaching. I can imagine he would have been good about 50 years ago, but it's time for him to retire. You are lucky if you understand a single word he says. He doesn't answer questions clearly. I basically had to teach myself the course via textbook. Good luck.
If I could choose between taking a wambsgans class again and having a stroke, I would choose the stroke.
If you have the option to take the same class with another professor for a different term, please do!! Avoid him at all costs if you can. His lectures are so confusing and not helpful at all. Not to mention, you cant understand what hes saying half the time. This is probably the worst class I've taken at drexel. Dont take him!!!!
He was a very cute old man, but the class was difficult to understand and the expectations were unrealistic. Would get IHOP with him and chat about life but would not take his class again.
Is a cute old man but a horrible teacher. His speech is very garbled, I cannot understand what words he says, and he seems confused about what he is teaching. He is very unclear about what will be on exams, his exams are formatted horribly. In his labs he never knows what is happening and is no help whatsoever. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
avoid
His lectures are difficult to follow and at a certain point, I stopped attending and relied solely on YouTube videos and the textbook. Your grade will be almost entirely exam-based, but the exams are relatively easy and consist mostly of basic reactions you can find in his assigned textbook problems. He is a slow grader and bad with technology.
A very unengaging professor. It was hard to hear what he was saying often, and is just not tech-savvy at all. If you can somehow avoid having him as a professor, do so. In contrast, his exams were all multiple-choice and relatively easy. If you do your studying, you will pass.
Poor dude has no idea how to use a computer. He's barely audible in his lectures, and basically just reads off a note sheet of topics for an hour or so and falls half asleep a few times in between. If the word senile was a person I would imagine it would look something like this guy.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had. He always seems confused. Lecture slides and exams are formatted horribly. Hlaf the time I don't think he even knows what he is talking about
Dont take
Very very very very bad. His notes are the worst I've ever seen. I have no clue what he is doing.
Horrible professor. Tests are "easy" as they are based entirely on his notes, however his notes are full of errors and are mostly incomprehensible / illegible. Retire please.
Lectures are difficult to follow and understand and the notes are disorganized with mistakes. Sometimes exam resources aren't posted in a timely manner. I recommend recording his lectures, reading the text, and going to office hours. I will say, he is an approachable guy who genuinely wants to help. His class takes a lot of self-discipline.
Notes are unreadable as he does mechanisms on a word doc only using a mouse pad. Doesn't know how to use technology. Goes on rants during lectures that are essentially useless. Format of exams are difficult to decipher, can't tell where one question ends and another begins. Rude to students for not doing good on exams when hes a terrible teacher
You will regret taking this class. This class taught me self-discipline because this professor sadly cannot teach. You're better off learning from YouTube (Chad's Prep) than trying to decipher his notes which are riddled with an assortment of typos and different fonts and colors.
Orgo 2 is already a hard class on its own, but having Wambsgans makes it 10x more difficult. His lectures are long and impossible to understand. He gets sidetracked often and isn't good with technology. The only way I survived was by reading the textbook and watching yt videos to decipher his "lecture notes" which were a mess of disorganized words.
good luck, you'll need it
I understand not many people are a fan of professor Wambsgans but personally he was not a bad lab instructor. Although he may not be the best lecturer because of his age, he is an amazing person and whoever is mean to him should be ashamed. He loves chemistry and loves teaching so we all need to take advantage of all the help he has to offer.
