Lectures well and is quite funny at times. Course is very demanding but will prepare you well.
He explains clearly, makes a few jokes here and there, and he's hot:) but the class is hard.
Lab was easy if you just go through the ID lists, and use the practice practicals. Also, go to the Open Labs, its much easier to work at your own pace
He is young and hot, and offers many opportunities to do well. Although there is much help available, you will not do well unless you study on your OWN and take advantage of what he has to offer.
He is very difficult to listen to and makes his tests straight from the lecture material. The class is tough and he is the worst lecturer of the bunch
He seems to put a lot of specific details onto the exam. He also likes to put more scenario-like questions on the exams, which make it a little more interesting to think about anatomy in a clinical way. But if you study the lecture guide and go to the review sessions, you will have no problem doing well in the course.
The class is hard even when you do the work. He can be boring and his tests are very detailed.
Lectures were always fun and interesting. Tests were fairly easy if you attend lectures and use resources. One of my favorite classes!
Uses text that he authored, filled with errors and not in order. Completely useless lectures. Disorganized class structure. Quiz keys are wrong, tests need to be looked over very carefully for errors. Do not Take this clASS!
Great professor--can be a little dry at times but is extremely helpful and kind. Pretty nerdy but very sincere. Obviously loves the subject. He's written an extensive lecture guide that you can buy at the book store. Great for studying. NOT an easy class but exam Qs are straight from lecture. Show up & study the lecture material afterwards.
Awesome guy, good sense of humor. Looks and talks like Stephen Colbert.
I thought Dr. Weinhaus did a great job teaching/directing the class. He obviously has a great grasp of the material, and his lectures clearly reflected this and his love for the subject. He is very helpful and always seems to be looking for ways to improve the course. The tests are detailed, but this is to be expected from any anatomy course.
Anatomy Lab total points on tests only amounts to 150. So, for one of the most important classes for people in the medical field he is more interested than screening people than teaching them anything. He told our lecture class after the first test not to contact him about questions because a few points probably won't make a difference. Horrible.
Contradicts himself and is disorganized. The muliple choice is inconsistent in book and lecture, be prepared to read his mind. Cares more about making a stance, instead of being a teacher and helping students succeed. Students pay for quality programs, which include helpful instructors.
Terrible teacher. The practice exams were nothing like the actual exam. Waste of time and money.
Dr. Weinhaus is a quite poor professor. He covers about 150 slides in 50 minutes, and does little to explain them. The exams he wrote were not a very good representation of the material. For example, when covering bones, muscles, and joints, 80% of the test was strictly origin and insertion of muscles... I would not recommend him to anyone.
This class can be pretty easy if you put in the time and study beyond the notes. I studied primarily from the book, then supplemented with the notes. There are also several extra credit questions on each exam, and questions from practice exams appeared on the real exams. The final curve is also generous.
The tests are quite demanding and require a lot of time to prepare for. 4-5 different profs write exam questions, so it is not easy to get used to their question style, and some profs are way harder than others. That said, the curve is quite generous. I almost failed the first exam but improved in time to escape with an A. Hard, not impossible.
Hard to describe him-can be nice but rude too- he is very busy. Does a good job of managing the class and is very knowledgeable, but expect mistakes made here and there. Go to open lab, ask the TAs questions, use resources on the course website, and be awake/alert during lab- it is a lot of information during a short amount of time!
The Class is quite difficult, however Dr. Wienhaus does a good job of presenting the material as many people have pointed out some of the guest speakers have a lower quality to there presentations. Regardless this class is fantastic. Keep in mind though this class does require a lot of studying but the curve is quite generous.
Go to class and then go home and try to understand it. You cant just memorize the information, you have to actually understand it and be able to integrate what you learn.
They will tell you they do not recycle test questions, but that is B.S. They totally do. Study past tests and then supplement with whatever points they seem to stress during lectures. Be sure to pay attention to Weinhaus's jokes, they make lecture a lot more bearable.
Dr. Weinhaus is one of the best professors I have had at the U of M. He goes through lecture material by making his own slides and filling in information as the lecture proceeds. Therefore, if you miss class, you will NOT get a good grade in his class. He also gives a lot of hints as to what will be on the exam and which body areas you HAVE to know
You actually do have to study almost every day you don't have class if you want to do well. the class is a lot of work and the Weinhaus does not make a lot of time for his students. Better to rely on the TAs if you have a problem. He is "too busy"
Probably the worst professor at the University of Minnesota by a long shot. Has a huge ego, not very friendly, and not funny for that matter. Want help outside class? Forget it, he's too busy to help his students out, even though his income is coming from our pockets. Avoid him, save the hassle.
Lectures are very dry, goes through 100 slides with little explanation. Want help? Forget it, he's too busy. Awful and cocky professor, avoid
His undergraduate anatomy class is tough, but he's a good prof and provides a ton of resources. The class is way more challenging than a typical 3 credit course, though, and is a bit of a sink or swim type class.
The lab is taught by TAs, not by Weinhaus. Some TAs are great, others not so much. Be careful - there are a lot of hyper competitive, cut throat pre-med types who will move the microscopes to different areas (or just out of focus) or move the pins in the cadaveric structures during the exams.
I love weinhaus. He's really knowledgable and passionate about anatomy. It's a hard class, but he's good. He has a goofy recording policy, and the gunners secretly violate the policy and record him in violation of it. Obviously, doing that helps.
Overall, good class. Lecture and lab supplement each other, so I would enroll in the two courses simultaneously. Some of the prof's were excellent, but others were terrible. Tests are not easy, but not difficult. Do what is expected of you and you'll do fine. Because there are A LOT of motivated people in the class, I would not rely on the "curve."
Weinhaus is fine, not a great, not a bad prof. His guest lecturers were a hit/miss. I went to 30% of lectures and got 90s on the exams except for one where I felt it was unnecessarily detailed and difficult. You'll get a B if you either go to class or read the book, so I suggest a mix of the two + make a friend. Lab was the best thing ever
Best professor I've had! Dr. Weinhaus is busy (he's the head of the department so it makes sense) but works with students and really cares. Very funny and love his lectures and labs. I'd recommend to anyone. Ton of respect for this guy.
Weinhaus is very hard to listen to. He is not a stimulating professor and his content does not have structure. He sounds like he's talking to himself and not to a lecture full of students. Unfortunately, if you take ANAT3601 it is inevitable that you will have him.
Dr. Weinhaus is alright! His lectures are all over the place! Some of the guest lecturers are awesome and they most likely will write the exams. I would rely on the two head TAs instead of him. They are both extremely enthusiastic about what they do. Exams are difficult!!!
Honestly, the worst professors I have ever had. He doesn't teach most of the lectures which makes studying for exams hard. The tests only make up your grade basically. He doesn't care about you at all or your grade. He is also very unapproachable. If you ask him about your grade don't expect to hear back quickly or a nice response. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Weinhaus is an okay professor. He lectures only about half of the semester. Tests are difficult and based on lecture material. If you want a good grade, go to the weekly review sessions. They are lead by a TA who does an amazing job presenting the material in a clear way.
Worst professor I've had. TAs were pretty good. Exams and online quizzes were the only grades. If you miss an exam or quiz, you get 15 points taken off automatically of your final score for that exam, so if you do take it, you have to score high or else it'll be pretty pointless. Also terrible at reminding students to take the online quizzes
Don't miss any lectures, you won't pass. The professor includes things in the lectures that you won't be able to find in the powerpoint slides. Also go to the Wednesday study reviews led by the TA's. The TA's will talk about the most important things you need to know for the tests.
The tests require a lot of memorization and understanding how structures work together. Entirely lecture and exam based, and it's very important to go because the guest lecturers help write the tests. Weinhaus is awkward but cracks unexpected, hilarious jokes, and is helpful outside of class. He is very passionate about the material
Terrible professor who has a stick up his rear end. Never available to help and forces you to buy his stupid book so he gets $. AVOID
Hardest class ever! Taking the classes MW and i would avoid this class. Take the class at a CC! Prob the hardest class IMO
AVOIDDDDDDDDDD! HATE THIS CLASS! IM A PRE DENTAL STUDENT AND THIS COURSE IS THE HARDEST COURSE EVER
Dr. Weinhaus is very unapproachable and unfriendly outside of class and doesn't seem willing to help his students succeed. This class is much easier if you have tons of time to dedicate to it as it's essentially just memory based, but if you're taking a lot of credits it may be harder to manage.
Excellent and engaging professor. The class is very easy to do well in if you come to lecture and make a bunch of flashcards based on the lecture. Everything on the exam is in the lecture- I didn't even use the book/study guide much. May seem like a lot of information but its really just memorizing, not much of a challenge conceptually.
This was one of my favorite courses at the U. Don't waste your time getting a textbook because you won't need it. As long as you attend class and use the lecture guide you will do well. I would also highly recommend taking the lab with this course because it makes it much easier when you can study the material on an actual cadaver.
I wish there were more grades for this class, as the exams are pretty much it. A different professor teaches each system, which has its pros and cons. This can be difficult when taking tests because the style of questions on exams varies so greatly.
If you're taking anatomy, I highly recommend taking the lab. Anthony does not teach it in, all the TAs do. It was really cool to learn about something in lecture and then see it in a real human body. Also, I found the lab and the lectures both benefitted my learning, because all the material is the same even though their separate classes.
anatomy is taught by rotating professors, but when Weinhaus teaches, he is funny. Sometimes lectures can be boring, but some units are better than others. I really enjoyed taking the lab along with this class. It was a good study tip. Definitely review lecture slides before tests and buy the lecture guide manual. I benefitted from both.
Whatever you do, do not take this professor. He is incredibly boring, his tests are overly difficult, and even though the averages were low, there was 0 curve whatsoever. I literally did Better in ochem than his class with his hard exams. 0/10
Just avoid this professor and take anatomy in the fall. The lectures were not structured, hard to listen to and boring. Tests were too hard compared to other professors my friends have taken. AVOID HIM.
I do not recommend taking this Anatomy with this professor. He makes the test much harder than how he can teach it. Then, when students struggle, he offers no help. My advice is to not take this class with this professor or any class with him.
Honestly Weinhaus is not a bad professor-he gives you all the answers to his test questions during the lectures-SO DO NOT SKIP THEM. Also buying the lecture guide is a huge help while reviewing for the exams- definitely but it.
His lectures seem easy enough but his exams were incredibly hard and specific. Tried asking questions a few times through email and he was really rude. Just take the fall anatomy.
This class is taught by rotating professors but when Weinhaus lectured, he did a fairly good job. I do agree w/ others that his exams are a lot harder than what he teaches, tough. Overall, he's a good professor- caring, funny, knowledgeable, and organized. Grade consist of 2 quizzes, 4 exams (w/ some extra credit questions). Buy the lecture guide!
He is a very boring lecturer but luckily he only teaches like 3 weeks of information and the rest is from other lecturers in the Anatomy/Anthropology department. Massey is super fun I think! I enjoy how he shows what the stats are for the curves and for each exam! Just study anatomy regularly and you will be fine! Drawing is helpful too for this!
Ok, I have never felt the need to rate a professor until this one. I really did not vibe with this guy for so many reasons. Most importantly, he is not a good teacher or communicator. His lectures were so dry and so not helpful for learning. His graphics were confusing which is bad for anatomy. He was not understanding or considerate either.
Very good professor, would recommend. Anatomy is very straight-forward and requires a lot of self-study and memorization. Make sure to make flashcards on lecture notes for exams! If you put the work in for this class it will pay off.
Weinhaus was a pretty good teacher but lectures were long and monotonous. So much information gets thrown at you all at once so staying organized + on top of assignments/lectures is super important.
The most boring insufferable professor I've ever encountered. He does not know how to teach and keep students engaged I can barley get through his lectures. His power point slides are terrible and give little to no information so prepare to transcribe his entire lecture. He deserves a negative 1,000. AVOID
Very monotonous professors. Luckily, the class was taught by many professors within different units of the class. He told the class as usual that he curves the course at the end and didn't, as well as breaking his code of conduct for breaking the number of minutes given per question for the final exam.
This class was the most challenging class I have ever taken. I studied for probably 6 hours a week and failed every single test. I have never struggled in other types this much, and he doesn't do anything to help those struggling. His lectures and his diagrams make no sense. Take with another professor take through a CC if you can.
With the amount of information to remember + and an exam format with confusing formats at times, his class becomes a challenge. Have to study days in advance, can't cram or you won't even sniff an average. Go to lectures because he won't accommodate if you're sick or post his recorded lectures, make a friend because people rarely share notes.
This class is horrible at grading and you can only rely on the exam to help your grade. I went to class everyday and never missed one, studied after class, and made sure to look at things he spent the most time on. And still I ended with a lower grade. I think the lecturers are great but they suck at explaining what they are looking in the exam!!!!
Extremely difficult class. Don't take it unless you have a LOT of time to dedicate to studying. Only graded off of tests+quizzes, and the exams are tricky (beware of 1st). When Weinhaus lectures, expect to cram in hundreds of slides. Thankfully, content is interesting and there are rotating professors that teach. Take the lab, helps with learning.
I swear this dude does not speak in complete sentences. His train of thought is not on any kind of track. As course director, he consistently left mistakes on exams. Does he not proofread them?!?! would that not take 5 minutes?! shorty was always interrupting exams to correct his mistakes super distracting!
I have never taken a class as difficult as ANAT 3651. The information was dense and you had to devote your entire life to studying for the class. I took ANAT 3651 in the Spring to take the lab, but the labs were so crowded you could barely see or learn anything unless you went to an open lab. I withdrew and took it at MCTC and got an A there.
AW is rude. His slides look like they were made on his phone. He doesn't talk in complete sentences and just has pictures in lecture where he points at them and circles things. Cant go back and look at any recordings because he is against that?? Not sure how he is director. Mark Cook is much better and the only thing that made sense was lab
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless it is your only class during the semester. He does not teach anything. The class pace is insanely fast, and there are limited resources. Test practices are not nearly close to the actual test. There was not enough time in the 2-hour lab class to cover the material. lab hours are ridiculously crowded and hard to learn.
(For ANAT 3651) His lecture notes can be 200 slides and are at times, hard to follow along with so when he taught lectures, review took much longer compared to the other professors teaching the class. He's an alright lecturer but has a lot of passion for sure.
Yes, Anatomy is hard, but this class and this professor make it unnecessarily harder for no reason. He takes pride in this. You will do well in this class if you only take this class and devote yourself to it. I did two days of lecture, one day of lab, 10 hours of open lab, plus over 30 hours of self-study; and still was not enough. Not worthy it
His lectures include SOO much information you do not need for the exams and he goes back and forth between slides making is super hard to follow. His test questions are also extremely challenging for no reason, they almost feel like trick questions.
Dr. Weinhaus navigates through his 200+ slides at breakneck speed, with no time for questions (dare to ask, prepare for a glare) His exams are a collection of puzzles designed to confuse, students are always profoundly moved (to tears) after class. His teaching is a literal academic trial by fire, so brace yourself. Good luck (you'll need it)
All the ANAT 3651 profs go through their slides pretty quickly so I'd recommend annotating notes on the slides with an iPad. All the material is in the slides and lecture notes on Canvas. Everything is multiple choice save for some lab practical exam questions. Dr. Weinhaus's lectures can drag on but he's passionate about what he teaches.
I rarely saw Dr. Weinhaus; it was two other professors that I saw the most. The female Dr didn't know how to teach at all, the other male dr. was very good, and dr. Weinhaus was good too. The class is really good if you study for it, another advice, relay on the textbook when studying. Don't rely only on the slides.
Dr Weinhaus is possibly the worst
Each exam question takes a full minute to digest and remotely understand. I saw a girl make a mistake filling out her exam and she asked if it was okay when she handed it in, and Dr. W said, “are you kidding? This absolutely ridiculous. Do you not listen?” And then said he would “attempt” to grade it. Guy is not nice. Lab is incredible though
Over the semester, there has been 3 other professors teaching and ALL of them make studying very easy. Their lecture notes are perfect and I can follow along easily. All the previous content has been really difficult but I made it through because the other instructors were amazing, but Weinhaus ruined it for me.
Has 100+ slides because he's ~that~ guy that uploads each slide after he's added one thing to it. Incredibly frustrating to sort through. His lecture notes remind me of how my grandpa with dementia writes. I just relied on the book for his section. He should step down and let Rowe or Cook take over. They're so much better.
I was going to wait for the semester to be over before rating this man but his quality of lectures and general teaching style is just deranged. This man is quite literally the definition of just “doing shit.” Terrible Lecture slides, Lecture notes are written like a dementia patient on steroids, and his exam asks for the most miniature details.
I could not say enough worse things about this man as a professor. He makes zero sense. Don't go to lecture, it makes it worse. Treats this class like it is for medical students. Absolutely blows my mind.
This course has multiple instructors, and he is the most challenging one. His lecture slides are so long because each time he adds a small detail, he creates a whole new slide just for it. I wished he condensed the information more. The class is generally difficult, but his teaching style makes it even more difficult to follow.
Don't take 3651 unless it's req for your major. If you have other options take those first. Lab is super cool and TAs are extremely helpful, but this class is NOT for the weak. Weinhaus makes the content extremely confusing with 300 slides. Test questions are extremely difficult and specific. nice guy kinda but just awful lecturer. good luck.
Not really much to say about his character. Pretty strict, serious guy. Makes sure no one is cheating. Pretty sure he purposely tries to make the class hard as well. His slides suck.
He's by all means not perfect , i don't really get the insanely bad reviews. This class is honestly not that hard its just quite literally memorization. This guy sucks with his slides and learning approach but the laziness low-key makes the class easier. The exam questions are surface level. or maybe i'm just weird? Idk
horrible. he only teaches a few units but i hated all of it. and so did most students. get ready to learn and do a lot on your own when its his turn to teach. his lectures were so long and excruciating to get through.
Good luck. That's my only words for him. I was literally 1 point shy of passing his course and there's no budging. He said to me in an email “Maybe you should have worked harder” I spent hours preparing for exams and got no sympathy. Avoid at all costs.
just be prepared and don't look past the other reviews.
This class was mainly challenging because of the lab practicals and the rotating professors, thats it. This professor was particularly challenging because he treated this class like a medical school level course. His slides were a MESS. Plus, there was a random AI generated image of a blood cell on his exams? That has to be illegal. Just memorize.
Bro is lowkey
