New professor at Mt. SAC. Really loving his teaching methods. Xavier is really funny and lectures are very engaging and interesting. So glad he is my professor cause biology is not the easiest, but he really makes the material interesting. Really cool professor!
I anticipated a boring 3hr Biology class, but I'm leaving with a greater appreciation of Biology. Xavier goes above and beyond to ensure that we enjoy our experiences in the classroom, he welcomes questions and never makes you feel stupid for asking a question. Amazing interactive lectures and uses comedy and pop culture references appropriately.
Professor Lopez is awesome. He is like a comedian, professor, and dork all rolled up into one. Favorite quotes: When passing out the exams, "I took the exam earlier and I got 100% on it" and when asking a question and nobody raises their hand, " I can grab a random person from Temple Ave. and they will answer it correctly" Thanks 4 the laughs!
I was really dreading taking BIO during the summer but to my surprise and pleasure Professor Lopez made the experience very memorable! Xavier incorporates pop culture into labs and lectures so as to not bore students and his fun witty attitude kept me awake for five hour classes after working eight hour shifts. Textbook is optional, he prints notes
I had to take this course as a GE requirement and dreaded the idea of taking it over the summer but the professor for this class was amazing. He is so much fun and he makes the whole class enjoy being there.
How to do well in his class: Record lectures. He goes into extreme detail and you have to know everything. Go to office hours and ask questions. Prof. Lopez is very welcoming when it comes to questions. Overall, he really cares about students in the classroom you simply have to work hard. My grade has improved after seeking help. Great Prof!
Physio is very hard but Prof Lopez helps out as much as he can - even has office hours off campus the weekend before the test to help you out! He really cares for his students' understanding. There were 3 lecture exams, 4 lab exams, 1 final each, and lots of small group work. Only downside is that he keeps you the entire lab time! Take him!!!
Prof X is awesome. Provides all the necess resources to strive in class: lecture notes, study guide and problems. Exams are conceptual so you have to apply the concepts. X is young so he is relatable and has an upbeat personality. Lectures are engaging, clear and interesting. Really enjoyed the family-like environment he provided in class.
Prof. Xavier was sent by God to us community college minions. I can go on with all the pros this prof has, but there is a word limit. Simply put, he is energetic, hip, and very smart. Lectures are always filled with discussions and activities. Even brought us Krispy Kreme donuts twice, once on Valentine's Day. 110% recommened.
Professor Xavier was awesome! His lectures were very informative, but if you don't understand something he is willing to go over it. You tube was my BFF so utilize it. He is very hip, understanding and so positive and easy going! Take him you will not regret it! I will definitely miss the jumpers and cotton candy lol.
Don't let Xavier''s appearance fool you (looks more like a student than a prof) he really knows his stuff and loves conversing with students. As a prof, he is very easy to talk to and will sit with you patiently to go over the material; including weekend office hours at coffee bean. I was dreading physiology but he made it less painful.
This professor is the best! I am terrible at biology, but he made it EXTREMELY easy for me to understand. He teaches in a way that is fun and engaging. Honestly, pay attention in class, do the study guide and there is no reason why you should not be able to get at least a B in his class. I Highly recommend him.
Prof. Lopez is a solid choice for Bio. Classwork and group discussions may seem overwhelming but it made the material easier to understand. His lectures are more like open discussions and does a good job in getting the class involved and provides a comfortable space to ask questions. On a side note, he is pretty funny and is approachable.
Professor Xavier has been one of my favorite professors! He made me love biology. His class is very well orginized, providing all te information needed to understand the material. No text book needed!
Took Prof. X over the winter and I really enjoyed being his student. In short, he is friendlily, outgoing, and gives really good lectures. Exams are not challenging and he provides all of the lecture notes and study guides. Topics covered are really interesting and he plays Morrissey during lab!
Highly recommend! Made Biology fun to learn. Took him for Winter and we had 3 exams and 1 final. Study study and youll do great. Also, look out for the Mountie Jumper ;)
Great professor. If you stay on top of your work (easy) you will get an A. Unfortunately I missed a couple of classes and received a B.
It's refreshing to have a young, energetic and passionate professor. Prof. Lopez wants all of his students to be successful both inside and outside the classroom. His patience made it easy to ask questions and his teaching style made it easy to learn the material. Emphasis is placed on improving scientific literacy rather than memorization.
Highly recommended! Highly recommended! Highly recommended! Prof. Lopez is a pretty dope Biologist. He knows his stuff and NEVER reads the slides when lecturing. Talks clearly, loudly and cracks jokes often, all of which makes class fun and easy to follow. Took him over winter 'cause friends recommended him. Brings Krispy Kreme to class!
Prior to taking Xavier's class, I dreaded physical sciences. When I found out that Bio is a transfer requirement for my major, I was scared. Xavier's amazing teaching changed this. He's approachable, patient, and draws many visual aids and analogies during his lectures. As long as one pays attention and does the work, an A is achievable!
He knows his stuff. His lectures were very clear and most of it was on the test. Lab portion was pretty solid as well. The sanctuary was really cool to go through. Just a litttle problem, I wish he would tell students not to yell comments that were not based on the lecture/lab, because it is distracting. Overall really great professor.
Professor Xavier the best science teacher I've had! super chill, caring, and funny here and there. Lectures were energetic, I didn't even buy the textbook I just listened to the lectures and study the notes and do the hw, all easy, if ya'll had to use the book or were struggling, well somethings wrong with you because this is an easy A! Easy peasy
This class is far from easy peasy, for most of us, it was actually a challenge. Yes, Prof. Lopez requires you to apply your knowledge rather than memorize facts. As for office hours, he was always welcoming, encouraging and helpful. Overall, lectures were interactive and fun. As a person, he is such a sweetheart who really cares about students
I'll be honest I had to work for it to barely edge out an A. I was going to be happy with a B, because I put a lot of work and time in this class. Plus it's rough to be a student athlete. Professor Xavier did a great job with his teaching style and he's quite hilarious in the classroom. If you get a C, be proud of yourself as well.
Biology is difficult and it's not easy. Study the study guides that he will give you and you will do fine in the class. He tries to make Biology easier but you need to do your part and study as well. Ask for help on his office hours, it helps alot! Also he brings food to the classes! Overall, he is a fine professor and I want him again. Thanks :).
Best professor ever, so hilarious, makes time go really fast, you will learn a lot. Extra credit you will have. Email you every week to let know whats going on in the class. TAKE IT YOU WONT WONT WONT REGRETTED IT
Took him for BIO1. He is awesome professor! Cares for his students. Makes the class fun and interesting. I would recommend taking him!
Prof. Lopez gives you everything you need to pass Lecture attendance isnt taken but you shouldnt miss. I went to office hours and it extremely helped, he knew me and my group well from many office hrs visits was helpful Gives you notes printed out so you dont have to take any. Only way you wont pass is if you really dont try at all , Take him.
Professor Lopez is an amazing professor. biology is not my thing. But he makes it relate able to the every day life for you to under stand it. Definitely recommend to ask questions, if you don't understand. Study hard and participating does matter. DON'T SKIP. Made the mistake of taking over 6 classes and I only missed one class. but i passed
Whoo, this was intense! Took it this winter intercession, to fulfill GE requirements. Unless you thrive in fast-paced environments, it's safe to take it during fall/spring semester(s). Would take him again :)
Professor Xavier is a zaddy! Be comfortable working with others and small group activities and you will be fine. Makes biology really interesting and will make you more confident understanding biological stuff.
Explains everything clearly. Science is so hard for me to understand but he makes it so easy. Lecture quizzes are groups so that helps a lot! Gives you exactly whats on the test in study guide. His teaching style makes time go by so fast!
I dropped his class, I studied hard core and did not pass his first exam, there was a lot of fill in the blanks. Had him for biology and he was ok Physio wouldnt say the same he teaches it as he if we already know the subject. Offers Saturday study sessions, extra credit, and office hours.
Hes really nice and if you come to office hours at least once a week for questions you should pass, it is a hard class but he will work with you when you show him you care about passing.
Professor treated the class as if we already know the concept that he was teaching. Didnt care for the students or for their health. Teaching style was HORRIBLE and tests were HORRIBLY structured. Gave no sympathy for the students and their lifes.
Lectures can either be over simplified or extremely detailed. Dont expect you hand to be held like 10A and getting a good grade is highly possible you just need to study daily. Makes himself accessible to students by having extra office hours and even Sat study sessions. Super nice and brought Krispy Kremes a few times our poor health. Sarcasm
He was a great professor. Honestly if you dont study, it will not be easy. I studied at least 2-4 hours a day including weekends. If you go to his office hours consistently and ask for help you are fine. He was always helpful and has Saturday sessions and a lot of office hours. He cared for his students and wanted them to succeed.
Wish prof. Lopez would teach Micro because he is a really supportive professor and creates clear diagrams to explain complex processes. Those exams thou. Not easy. I'm a post-bac and I can say that his tests are on par with some of my univ exams. Study daily and study ahead. Would take again in a heartbeat.
Prof. Lopez is very picky on what he looks for on each assignment. I took him over the summer in a 6week course which made it difficult to get a good grade trying to balance work and school. He wants you to make his class your top priority. His office hours are beneficial but be careful he tends to mix up his informations when explaining materials
Very knowledgeable. Contributes hours of his personal time to exam study sessions. Teaches 10B nearly at the same level as 36. His exam wording needs improvement as it can be interpreted in several ways, and instead of applying your knowledge, you find you are trying to understand what he is asking. A bit chaotic overall but I would take again.
.Xavier explains everything clearly not like other professors who just explain and continue with other chapters and the quizzes are in groups. The exam questions were fair and the lab was fun. If you have any questions, you can go to his office hours. Also, you don't get bored like other classes. Amazing class.
Professor Lopez is super chill. I took his advice after doing poorly in Exam one and I ended with a B. Study daily if you can, work on the study guide and visit him in office hours. Class is filled with group activities and always makes u laugh and feel welcomed. Stay saucy Xavier!
Chill and easy
Had Xavier for Bio 1 and Anatomy 36. For Bio 1 he is probably the best to take, everyone loved his passion for biology. For physiology, tuff cookie. Lectures are solid and is very smart, but his exams are challenging. In short, he is well respected and loves his role as a professor. In the end, I would recommend him.
Since the lockdown started, we were having an online class for bio, but he sucked on this. Never answered the email! When I was in the zoom, I typed the question in the chat, but he kicked me out of the zoom because I was the only student there? Excuse me? so what is the point of holding an office hour zoom?
As this crazy semester is coming to an end, I want to thank you Prof. Lopez for all your hard work. I know it hasn't been easy, but you tried your hardest to shine your enthusiastic personality via online. Sadly, we only got two weeks of in class instruction and we you were amazing and very energetic. MtSAC is lucky to have you.
All the good reviews on this page are incredibly misleading. He was incredibly unprofessional and irresponsible. Prof. Lopez rarely replies emails, so you can forget about asking him any questions about chapter content or grade clarifications. He also never does half the things he says he is going to do. Do yourself a favor and avoid him.
He was nice, but his teaching style was not effective. I was really interested in learning more about genetics before taking his class. Not anymore. I used to loathe having to go to his class. He made us work in groups all the time and nobody had any clue what was going on. His "creative" teaching methods are better suited for elementary school.
Prof. Lopez is a really good professor and made Bio 1 more applicable with the group assignments and activities. I took Bio before and found lecture alone was not helpful. My suggestion is to study daily and ask questions, he will go over things fo clarify stuff. From others, he is highly recommended for Physio as well.
Prof Xavier is definitely there for his students, the material is just complicated for most. Expects us to apply and integrate rather than memorize. Exams are doable, but the material requires lots of studying then applying. I do appreciate the real-world problems and activities, but it can be a lot of work. Prepare to work for your grade.
Took him during the whole Covid transition. He was quite unorganized, took personal days off of class, assigned so much time for online zoom lectures on both weekdays and weekends. Tests were very dense with information, but as long as you studied and understood problems you would be fine. Class was ehhh, glad its over.
I just wish he was more organized. The class was all over the place and confusing. This should be a straightforward class. All the extra assignments on the side make it overly difficult. Just needs to be better structured.
Take Genetics with someone else. The transition online was just awful. He was not responsive when it came to answering questions or emails. The layout of the class was poorly structured and unorganized. Before we went online we had to do many tedious group activites in class that nobody benefitted from. Some professors should stick to the basics.
Love Prof. Xavier! Honestly, he is the one to take for Physiology. Explains material very clearly and encourages students to ask questions freely. Case studies and assignments make us think critically and apply the concepts. This summer course was hectic, but Prof. Lopez your enthusiasm and disco dancing made us love your class!
Second time taking Prof. Xavier (Bio 1 & 10B), loved him for Bio 1 and he did not disappoint for 10B. Always attentive students needs and concerns. Be open with working with others, group activities and asking questions and you will do fine. Don't think I would have survived summer physiology if it was another teacher, wish he would teach Micro.
Prof. Xavier is a solid choice for physio and is highly recommended from other prof. and students. Notes and study materials are clear but extensive and meticulous. Lect are presented clearly and is highly knowledgeable with the subject. Upbeat and welcoming personality along with his craft in teaching makes learning enjoyable. Also very stylish!
Definitely one of my favorite professors. Always willing to explain concepts further if needed and makes lectures fun to participate within. Took his class for both BIO1 and ANAT10B. Both were heavy in material, however, if you put in the work by attending lectures (taking notes) and making time outside from class to study, you will do fine.
not going to lie, this was probably the hardest class I've ever taken, but I couldn't have chosen a better teacher. He is so fun and caring. I attended all of his office hours and they saved my grade! Make sure you attend as much as possible. His tests are very much based on your explanations of the topic, so really understand concepts well!
Best Professor I've ever taken and I'm sad it had to be completely online. I wish I could take all my classes with him! Super great teacher, super helpful, bases his exams on his lectures (make sure you listen to what he's saying as well as whats on the slides). Do what he says in terms of how to study & you'll do fine. 10/10 would take again :)
The type of professor who wants to be hip and cool but fails miserable at it. i wouldn't be surprised he writes these ratings himself. the class experience was different than HIS reality. He should focus more on the teaching part and less on the socializing. Group work was terrible. Took him in 2019 but left me unprepared for university work.
Recorded lectures and occasional worksheets. Has a good relationship with students and is available outside of class. Optional Lectures, but you'll earn extra credit if you attend and he'll give out the answers to the quizzes if you pay attention. He'll take Labs slow to make sure nobody is left behind and that everything he explained makes sense.
Listen I was excited for this class seemed like a great professor although he is caring he was not the best at keeping up with assignments. He was unclear about his assignments which cost me my A. He said he was gonna round up grades and he never did it was so tragic! He seems to be better in person than online honestly.
Compared to all my other instructors over the pandemic, Prof. Xavier was very generous with his time and energies. The course itself was challenging and application is needed to get a good grade. I found taking his studying advice and asking for help was key to my grade. He is very approachable so take advantage of that. Do not memorize, apply.
Professor Xavier is amazing! I recommend everyone take his bio 1 class! He is so clear and explains the material very well when lecturing and will tell you exactly what is on the tests and exams! He is so informative too! He is really one of the best professors Ive taken!
Honestly, hands down one of the best professors ive ever had. He makes the class fun, he engages with his students. He makes sure you know your stuff. The exams are from the powerpoints. He provides study guides for everything. You will never be left in the dust about anything. He was genuinely the best. Im looking forward to physio with him!
Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken. (Not cus of him, but the materials or content) Very passionate about teaching physiology. Weekly quizzes, a few group activities, and few case studies. Gives study guide for the quizzes and tests. You have to put in the work to get a good grade in this class. (Have to study a lot) Highly recommend.
Lectures aren't boring because of his enthusiasm and jokes. Weekly quizzes. Gave study guides for tests & quizzes. This semester was hectic! It felt like he was rushing the lecture slides. Lab was ahead of lecture for some reason. He also gave us his winter zoom recordings to watch on our own when we're behind. He wants us to apply the concept.
Professor Lopez was super great, he made the class fun so it was easy to stay interested in the lectures and the labs. Quizzes and exams always have study guides so make sure you use them. The only textbook you'll need is the lab book. Best professor I've had by far.
prof. xavier's class was super fun and enjoyable. took him for bio1 & his lectures are a handful but he does his best to make it interesting. in the lab, we were allowed to work as groups. if you do the assignments and study the study guides he provides for the exam, you'll do good in his class! he doesn't grade lab work on completion!
Professor Lopez was such an exceptional educator, he clearly enjoys teaching biology. He made lectures and labs so enjoyable with his sheer enthusiasm; plus he is incredibly funny and relatable. He provides study guides for everything, you are never left in the dark. He will provide notes for everything. You'll only need the lab book. Take him.
Overall Prof. Lopez did a good job in conveying the important points needed to move on beyond Physio. Lectures can be simple to complex and he requires you to understand beyond the concepts for exam questions. Extremely nice and carrying and will be there for you outside of the classroom. Just be warned that lots of studying is needed to even get B
Winter 2022. 15 Labs, 5 Lab Quizzes, Lab Final, Lab Participation, 10 Lecture Quizzes, 4 Unit Exam Workbooks, and 4 Unit Exams (including Final). Professor Anthony Xavier Lopez truly loves what he does and it shows with his lectures and how accessible he is after class or during office hours. He would spontaneously bring my class Krispy Kreme.
Professor Lopez is absolutely amazing! He really tries to connect with students and makes sure that you are actually learning the material. Lectures can be a bit heavy but he gives out lots of study guides for exams! I would love to take more classes with him. His labs are extremely fun and really hands on.
Great professor. Take advantage of office hours and do not forget to ask questions during the lectures.
Good professor, at least his exams are flexible and not too difficult, also gave out extra credit if you attend his session, overall awesome.
Funny lectures, very long but reasonably enjoyable labs. Barely any homework but a TON of quizzes, but for me the quizzes and exams were all very easy and all raised my grade. Drops lowest 3 assignments which means you can skip class a few times and be fine. Great prof.
Hardest class I've ever taken with organic chem at same time. Office hours is crucial to know processes step by step. His depth easily surpasses the knowledge of my current nursing professors regarding patho. I honestly loathed his class, but you will get back what you give. I still go back to my notes from this class. This is not an easy A.
Professor Xavier is one of the greatest professors I've had so far. He allows the students to work together during quizzes which is very helpful if you forgot to study. He shows compassion for his students and gives out extra credit.
xavier lopez is such an amazing teacher!!! please take him his lectures have a lot of slides but his good attitude and jokes keeps you engaged. he genuinely cares about his students and will do everything possible to help you succeed. homework packets to do with every exam but very do-able, and lab was super fun!!
Prof Lopez is such a sweetheart. Wants you to be a better learner, enjoy your time in the classroom and really engages students to be awesome. My strong suggestion would be to ask questions and go to office hours. Quizzes and exams are not easy, but doable if you understand how to study for the course. Very stylish . Love his earrings
Professor Lopez is a wonderful professor. He truly cares for his students and helps them understand the content of his lectures. His lectures carry a lot of information, but he teaches to where you can comprehend it. He has some extra credit opportunities to be added to the exams. He gives study guides (for a grade) for all of the exams too.
Very funny and light-hearted professor. Lectures and labs were fun and engaging due to his personality. Pay attention in class and labs and study and the exams won't be too bad. Professor Lopez made coming to class fun and the course enjoyable.
These reviews are a fraud. He rushes lectures to beat the clock. Test are not related to lectures. Consistently misses class but expects you to be there with a sub. He is not a fair grader. Be ready for the mental stress and to log into zoom meetings outside of class hours for more lectures.
Xavier made me question my major.this class is a full time job say bye to sleep and life in general He takes forever to grade and skims thru lectures. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Not an easy class as it is a lot of information to go over. However, he does provide lecture slides and makes the lectures fun to keep you engaged. Also, provide study guides to help you with the exams which is very helpful. Overall, if you study you will get the grade you deserve.
He is a Kind Person..But..As a professor he is super intense and extremely difficult. SAYS he provides extra credit but we were only offered two extra credit opportunities. If you attend office hours it honestly feels rushed. Honestly made me doubt my CAREER PATHS. DEFINITELY WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TAKING HIM.
Lectures are lighthearted and he cracks jokes often. He makes sure to explain things so everyone can understand even if you aren't the best at biology. He offers extra credit if you go to events. Make sure to listen and take notes because the material on the tests is very similar to what he goes over in the lectures.
Prof. Lopez is a really caring professor. Gave me some pointers on how to turn my grade around and it worked. Lectures were always engaging and linked class materials to real world examples. He is very funny during office hours and is passionate about helping students succeed outside of the classroom. Put in the effort and you will do fine.
Lopez is caring about his students and has clear expectations. Took him for winter which was accelerated so it was a lot of work but manageable. Super helpful and wants everyone to pass. Definitely open to questions and overall a great professor. Everything he teaches is on the exams, nothing random. Excellent teaching method, personally.
Took Professor Lopez Winter '24, Lecture time was heavy(went by really fast) with lots of info! The only hw assigned was study guides, which are based off the lecture slides, study that and you'll pass. Pay attention to what he emphasizes, it'll fs be on the quizzes/ exams! Overall had a blast, and actually learned!
Professor Lopez was fantastic! You can really tell when a professor cares about the subject they teach, and he was a prime example of that. Engaging lectures and even a trip to the sanctuary where ONLY professor Lopez shows you where the hidden crocodiles are :)
Great sense of humor, brilliant, and covers SO much content! He provides printed materials that we can add additional notes on, and most of it is covered in the exams. Provides some opportunities for extra credit. Wants us to really understand the info. Answered all my challenging questions. Would take again just to learn what he knows.
Professor Lopez is the right Professor for Bio1.He give you lecture handouts, study guides/workbooks to help you out for quizzes and exams. Workbooks help boost your grade.Take time memorize material and you should definitely form groups with partners. For Lab read and complete lab papers, they will help with lab quizs and Exams to do well and pass.
This class does have a lot going on regarding quizzes and inside the exams as well. However, just read the print outs that he gives, and it will prepare you for the exams and quizzes. There are online quizzes every week that open up at weird times but just make sure to do them and you can pass with an A if you do those and review the handouts.
Professor Lopez was a great teacher to communicate with, however his teaching style did not connect with me, making it hard to understand. He refers to slides, but uses his white board to draw out the things he's talking about so it can be easy to lose him or where he's going. Not a lot of chances for extra credit so don't miss anything.
Some lectures seemed oversimplified, and others very complex, including stuff that is not in the textbook. Most lectures consisted of traditional lectures, while others included group discussions, group work and a poster presentation. For a 8am genetics class, Prof. always was full of energy and joyful. Somewhat of a challenging course, but doable
very willing to explain more and help if needed, gives alot of materials to make sure you understand concepts
Really enjoyed having Prof. Lopez for 36. There was not a day, where he wouldn't make the class laugh with his jokes/funny stories. Knows how to explain complex concepts really well and is very friendly and caring outside of class. Great lectures, amazing sense of humor, passionate about teaching and overall a great prof! We miss u already.
Professor Lopez is an engaging lecturer who really cares about student success. His classes are manageable if you stay on top of the work, and resources like the study guides are super helpful. Unstuck AI was a great supplementary tool for exam prep.
I had Professor Xavier during Winter 2025 which was only 6 weeks (accelerated!) Although the class was a lot of information all at once, Xavier made it easy to digest with his great diagrams and explanations. He is very caring and approachable, I felt comfortable to go to his office hours to ask for help / review materials. 10/10 professor!
Get ready to work your *** off. He covers double of what other physio profs cover (ask STEM tutors) and quizzes and exams require thoughtful integration of concepts. With that said, Prof. Lopez does explain concepts well and is very helpful and friendly. You can tell he enjoys teaching so do your part and you will be fine. Most recommend him.
Lectures are pretty important to show up for he teaches very clearly makes things simple to understand and made it fun. Provides the class with printed slides Lab attendance is mandatory Overall class can be heavy with lots of material, weekly quizzes, 3 exams and 1 final, just do the study guide questions and study the material and you're golden.
He is an overall great professor- the class itself is just naturally very hard. A lot of lecture slides and weekly quizzes. Very helpful during office hours and good at breaking down material during lecture. Took a while to grade things and weren't many things to raise grade since it was only lecture. Definitely doable but requires a lot of time.
I loved Professor lopez's class, so accommodating and engaging. Make sure to do the study guides, and show up for lab. 10/10 recommend.
Lecture-only class, very hard to raise your grade. Material wasn't too difficult, but exam/quiz questions were hard/interesting. Hardest science class I've taken at Mt. SAC (Bio 4, Bio 8, Gen/Ochem 1 & 2) due to no room for error on exams/quizzes, which are most of your grade. Many students were stressed, but instructor just said not to stress.
Awesome professor. My only problem was that it was extremely fast paced in regard to lectures.
Hardest class taken, lecture is pretty straight forward but the test covers things not covered in class. MORE than half the class dropped. Can be dismissive to student with concerns with grades or struggling. Once you get B on a test, you can't get an A in the class. A lot of people struggled and asked for help but just tells you not to stress.
As a straight A student, this is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Would not recommend. He's good at teaching, and you'll be an expert on physiology if you come out with an A, but this class was honestly really difficult. If you genuinely want to learn in depth, go ahead. If you just want credit, try your luck elsewhere.
Another straight A student echoing below. Really tough tests that are difficult to understand. Topics go in so much details that health care students may not need. Wouldn't recommend him especially if you have other responsibilities outside of class. 40 or so students dropped by exam 2.
He is a nice professor and seems to care about his students, however his tests are probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever taken. A lot of them feel like English questions that are entirely pedantic and feel like they're written with the intention of causing confusion. Overall, I enjoyed his teaching and personality, but not his tests.
Professor Lopez is probably one of the most funniest professors I've ever met. His explanations of topics are clear and very patient when it comes to answering questions. Almost all the key concepts and most of the exam questions come straight from the study guide. Overall, I'd definitely recommend him to anyone taking biology.
The professor cares about his students and has a great personality. However, this is a very lecture heavy class so be prepared and he does take a very long time to grade things and respond back to emails. Make sure you read questions carefully on tests too. I don't think I would take this professor again though.
The test questions were hard to understand. A lot of times I had to re-read the same question over and over again and still felt confused what the question was asking. Some questions felt like they weren't thoroughly covered during lecture either. It was a very difficult class. I'm glad it's over but probably would not take his class again.
Prof Lopez is engaging and passionate when teaching and focuses a lot on big-picture ideas and shares stories to make the material easier to understand. Genetics is tough and I felt that quizzes are harder than exams. Very helpful in office hour and really makes an effort to get to know u outside of the classroom. Easy to communicate and friendly
Lopez really cares about his students, and makes accommodations for students. Great lectures and study guides, I walked out with a lot of knowledge. Lots of quizzes and exams, extremely difficult. I spent 10~20 hours to study outside of class. This is so far the hardest class I've taken. 40% dropped, and only 20% got A.
