Dr. Walker was very helpful, but extremely difficult. Watch out for her exams and make sure you do your work and study hard for quizzes. Make sure you talk during discussion time and most of all DO NOT BE LATE!!
whoever said her must have been a blind old bat or just rushed their comments.HE was a very INTERESTING teacher and if u actually wanna feel like you are learning something..TAKE HIM..but when it comes to work..STRAP YOUR SEATBELTS
He's by far the worst teacher I have ever taken. There is no point in looking at his syllabus because apparently it changes week to week. On top of that he assigns ridiculous amounts of reading that sometimes you will not know about until the day the reading is due.
Dr. Walker class was the first English class I have EVER liked. No subject is too taboo. Write the papers, read the books and come to class; it's that easy. "He aims to maim!"
bad teacher! he makes class difficult for no reason. tons of reading/writing, which is reasonable because it is English class, but he just makes it hard by not giving enough time to do any assignment, and then he grades harshly. only want to get good grade is to stuck up to him. that is the ONly way.
One of the worst teacher I had at GGC. Same format everyday: Read and disscussion in class. It is english class, so it is obvious the reading and writng will be in abundance, but the way he taught through out the semester was not pleasant. I took him last semester and I still hate him. This is coming from a student who keeps up with his work.
Wow.. Where do I start?.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! If you want to see a teacher that thinks he rules the world, this is him. His language in class is horrible. Grades Hard. His attendance policy is crazy and he will just all of a sudden goes crazy. I think he is really bipolar. DONT take this class or you will be sorry after the first week.
Honestly, I really did like this guy. I know he has his faults and is really opinionated but he helped me a lot with my writing and he was a pretty out of the box thinker which i find really appealing. If you are stupid and cant take a strong willed guy, then dont. If you like a challenge then you will love him.
He is a horrible teacher. He gives alot of of reading, which is understandable for english class. Every Class, book that has to be read within a week and discussion. if you are afraid to speak in class,DO NOT Take HIM! not only that, he is a picky grader, and does not give time to complete the assignment.and He really needs to get over himself.
Worst teacher at GGC. Please do not take this class! His class is riddled with his own political opinion. If you disagree with him he will go off on you. It?s not an open environment- he is the dictator and you are the suppressed civilian.
He really isnt' as bad as he comes across. I liked him. You have got to have an open mind. Not a whole lot of work, but when there is work, it takes time. Your in college, that's to be expected. Be sure to read everything he gives or post. He doesn't tell all expectations in class. You will have group projects. Overall a nice guy. Would take again.
He wasn't hard, but not easy either. My advice: Do your work, pay attention, and participate in class. As long as you do all that... it should be an easy A+.
I took him for both 1101 and 1102. He is a GREAT professor. Very opinionated but it's a college class and you should be able to discuss these topics. He is open minded and will ask you to defend yourself if he doesn't agree. Essay topics are very creative and the class is extremely fun. Remember people, it is college ... be open minded.
Wonderful!! Taking him again!!
Will take again next semester.
Thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Walker's style of teaching. He expects one to abide by the rules and try. If one can't do that, find another prof. Great class discussions. One should have an opinion and reasoning for the opinion.
He is a great teacher! One of the best I've had. He comes off as mean the first couple weeks. But he's a real nice guy and funny! Basically you read the novels assigned at home. Then you just discuss the book the entire class time. Usually one small quiz per book. I would recommend him as a teacher!
Although there are A LOT of things I don't like about Dr. Walker, his teaching approach is the best I have ever seen. We cover topics and concepts that are practical and applicable in the world. He is very straight forward with his students which I respect. If you're sensitive and introverted, this class is not for you.
do not take this teacher
Dr, Walker is by far, one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking abuse from. I mean abuse in the quality of work he expects from his students and the way he makes you WANT to do well for him. He is tough, so do not expect to be coddled. Ive had him for 2 semesters and would take his class again if possible.
He was the BEST teacher I've ever had! Dr. Walker kept the class interesting and fun.
Take another professor for this course if possible. Several people dropped after first week. Now I know why.
Great professor. He's not easy, but it's the best class I've ever taken. He engages everyone in great debates / conversation and doesn't take crap from anyone.
Dr. Walker is wonderful!! You will do work in his class but getting an A is not impossible at all. Speak at least once every class, even if just to ask a question. And don't be afraid to voice opinions that are different from his- he is VERY open-minded!! I would love to take him again.
Very easy class. The first day may intimidate you, but if you still with it you will not regret it! follow 3 very basic rules: contribute to every conversation, write the 3 essays he assigns, & show up to class on time!!! he doesn't assign any other work. the readings he asks you to do do not even count toward your final grade in the end.
Hes a good teacher but very hard. If he doesn't agree with you, then keep your mouth closed. He will retaliate and force you into his beliefs.
Dr. Walker is a great professor. The first day is very intimidating because he states clearly what he wants and what he will absolutely not put up with. If you can't take the heat, get out of the English class. After the first day it gets better and better. I was very excited to go to his class everyday, very interesting discussions.
I really enjoyed his class. the main thing were he discussions. you got alot out of them. we discussed mored than we did textbook work.
Excellent Professor! Do not take Dr. Walker for this class if you are expecting a free ride, he will challenge you every step of the way... if you share an opinion in class, expect to have to defend it.
Once again, an excellent Professor! Do not take Dr. Walker for this class if you are expecting a free ride, he will challenge you every step of the way... if you share an opinion in class, expect to have to defend it. V. interesting reading selections.
I had Dr. Walker for English 1101 and two. I found him to be very intresting because unlike other proffessors he didn't just teach the subject he was assigned but also provided the class with many other knowlegeable facts which at many times made class intresting. If you're a type of person who likes to think things out side the box you should take his class.
Very fun and interesting professor. Hard grader. If you are looking for an easy A, this class isnt for you. Overall fun class.
Dr. Walker is amazing. My favorite teacher at GGC. Quizzes are extremely easy. No final or midterm just 1 paper due. Easy A love this teacher. Im not sure why ppl are saying he's hard, classes are mainly discussion.
The best teacher I have had in a long time. Great discussions! As long as you come to class, participate, and do your work you will do fine. He is a great teacher and his class opens your mind to a new ideas and thoughts.
Dr. Walker is by far my favorite English prof. He is passionate about his job and really wants his students to succeed. If you do not like putting 100% effort forth for all assignments- get another prof. Wish he could teach my other degree-required subjects as well! He is Awesome!
Dr. Walker is a very passionate teacher. He requires you to come to class and participate in class discussions. No final or Midterm, only 1 major paper along with 3 Critical Breakdowns.
Liked his class but kind of a stickler. If you miss a class and even have a reason or email him your paper he wont take it. The class is a lot of talking, he talks about very graphic things. If your shy, this is not a class for you.
Best Prof. I've had so far. Class is VERY interesting. Talks a lot about sexuality. If you are shy do not take this class. Only 1 major research paper. Quizzes are super easy. Highly recommended!
I really enjoyed taking his class. The first few classes seemed stressful because it was a lot of class discussions and I am not talkative, but I enjoyed him. Definitely would recommend him!
This is not an easy A, but this class is SO worth the effort. You will NEVER have professor who loves his job like this man!! He is the absolute best!
By far, the best professor I've had at GGC. It's not an easy A so you will have to work for it. He challenges his students but in a good way and tries to make you see things at different angles. If your shy this may not be the class for you but I'm a really shy person and I made it through the class just fine
Cool guy. His class was pretty laid back you just need to pay attention. He will not hesitate to call you out if you aren't listening. Two essays, no midterm, no final. His class discussions are very interesting and participation is important. Don't take him if you aren't willing to speak your opinion and back it up in a heated debate.
Such an awesome and cool professor. I loved the discussions we had in class; they can get pretty interesting. One or two easy essays on a topic of your choice. He's really laid back. Would definitely recommend!
easy teacher, best professor i ever had at GGC. no final, no midterm, only one essay and one oral presentation. read 3 books and discuss it in class. he gives about 4 quizzes, and two HW assignments. i am so glad I had him for English.
Dr. Walker is a great professor.. I learned something new in his class every week. He's pretty laid back and sparks some interesting convos which makes class go by fast. He does however have a temper so..don't piss him off.. Otherwise, I would recommend his class to anyone who wants an easy A and interesting talks :)
Love Professor Walker! He's very straight forward and easy going! He likes to be respected, who wouldn't, and gives much respect to everyone else. Explains what should be done well enough for you to understand. He likes to have class discussions a lot and expects everyone to participate. Enjoyed the class :)
I would choose a different professor if I were you.
I took both his 1101 and 1102 classes. Discussions are conversational, so be prepared to talk, because fair A's can be earned. Skipping homework and readings, on the other hand, sends him through the roof! Those 1102-ers who still speak ill of him speak nostalgically of the course itself, as I do of both.
He's awesome. Expect to talk because participation matters. No tests are given. But a few quizzes but if you read what is given you'll do great. Also, be on time because he starts right away!
awesome professor. easy grader.
Very precise in grading (especially grammar--duh). Other than that, this Professor is excellent because he challenges his students to REALLY analyze the theme of the course whether he uses articles or movies. He is very modern and loves to stay in the "in" generation. Expect to participate in discussion because THAT IS WHAT MAKES CLASS EFFICIENT!
Dr. Walker is a great professor who really believes in engaging students in the readings by having in-depth class discussions. There are 2 tests (the midterm and a take home final) and there are 10 question quizzes for each reading that he requires. There's also a literary analysis essay due on the last day of class.
Professor Walker has a very awesome sense of humor. But be aware guys, he becomes this unpleasant person if you do not read the books and do his quizzes. You will enjoy his lectures. He is full of energy. You will not regret taking him. At first you might think he is a strict guy but in reality he is far from that.
Professor Antiwan Walker isn't you usual English Professor. He is one of a kind to say the least. He loves engaging in conversation on specific reading assignments given. He is also really picky when it comes to writing, however doing so, it improves your own writing significantly. Books are needed for this class and as well as attendance.
do not take him.
Best professor at GGC, read the book and you will do great on the quiz. No Final, Research paper is your Final. Got an A in the class. Class discussion are amazing. come to class and you will earn yourself an A.
take him on your own risk
Half semester professor absence for weird reasons, hard grader on paper
Dr. Walker is truly amazing. Tip, read the assigned books and you will be on his good side. Gives heavy papers, but helps build and tells you exactly what he wants to see out of your writing. Truly helpful when it comes to making essays, and makes lectures memorable.
There were only two books I had to read for his class. Make sure you read! He will give quizzes for the books. Participating in his class is very easy. He tries to get everyone to talk and it's simple. Missing more than 2/3 classes can cause you to fail his class. He is amazing and he is one of the best professors I've ever had
He's great! Read the books it's impossible to fail. Unless you're lazy and don't care you will get an A. And speak up in class.
TAKE HIM!!
AMAZING LECTURES!!! Most of the class is just discussion and he's such a fun speaker! Participation is a big grade. I'm really timid and barely talked but still managed a B in participation so definitely doable. His readings are very interesting and quizzes and straight forward about the readings. Only a few assignments so everything is worth a lot
By far the best English class I have taken. Dr. Walker gives great feedback. He makes you dig deep in lectures which are amazing because you never look anything the same again. There are a few papers to write but it's good because you will be ready for the research paper in the end. Definitely, a professor you should take.
His class is really interesting and he is pretty funny. You do have to engage in class conversations. So if your real quite and shy don't take him, because he does deducted points for not participating. Turn in all your work on time because HE DOES NOT TAKE LATE WORK!!!! He may cancel class often but honesty it really doesn't effect your grade.
He is the best English teacher in GGC.
Take him! Take him! Take him! He is the best English Professor. If you enjoy talking this class is for you. There are 2 books to read and multiple discussions almost everyday.
This was the most enjoyable English class that I've taken. If you are participate in class you will do just fine. Be outgoing but not over the top, because discussions are a big part of the class. Have fun!
I want to minor in English now! Dr. Walker is easily one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. His quizzes are easy but he's a tough grader on the final essay. This class is so important and interesting. It opens your eyes to a lot of things.
The BEST English professor out there!! I took his class for four weeks during the summer and it was from 6-8:30 pm and I thought I would never make it through an evening class! THIS CLASS WAS MY FAVORITE CLASS! I wish his class was longer!! If you participate and do what he asks you WILL do just fine! Just read and do the work he tells you to!
Mr. Walker is a solid Professor. His classes are an open discussion about the reading. and he tries to make it inclusive and enjoyable. He gets way off topic some times and talks a lot about himself. (He's from the hood and he'll let you know) Class participation is very important. Theres one paper and a mid term and and final which is a paper.
barely do anything in class. can drag on certain topics. nice if you want an easy class. be on time and participate so he'll like you. had a night class so the fact that he cancelled half the time cause of his depression or weird reasons was nice. work load is light but will grade pretty specifically.
He is such a great professor. Every class is discussion based on the readings, but he makes them both enjoyable and informative. We had a midterm consisting of multiple choice questions and a two page essay, a 8-10 page research essay on a topic of our choice pertaining to one of the readings we have done in the semester, and a final.
Dr. Walker is an amazing professor. I never really enjoyed english class until I took his course. Participation is a requirement in his class! If you love to talk, take him. He loves discussions. If you are shy, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! Your grade will be affected. Work load is light, it is an easy class as long as you participate and do the work.
He is funny and very knowledgeable, Dont get discouraged by the first class, it gets better. Take him. you wont regret it. Easy A if you put some effort.
Dr walker is a great proffesor to educated thinkers. If youre not a very outspoken person dont worry because thatll change in this class. He made me question how much of an impact one person has in society. The 5page paper is simple if you read the material and know how to use a hammer to construct an actual paper in mla.
He is amazing if you read you will do fine. He is so hilarious...
Dr. Antiwan is an intelligent professor. Lectures cover the entire 2 1/2 hour class period and vocal participation is necessary; it is easy for him to find out who has not read the books for the class. Though lectures are great, they can become very political and PC culture related if you are not into that. I never got any feedback on written work.
Dr. Walker is a professor at GGC that I will never take again. He is rude & makes you feel stupid. Students like him because hesstraightforward but they dont understand that hes being rude & not encouraging you to pass him class. Hes the type to tell you that if you fail its on you not him, Hes getting paid regardless. Dont take him.
The first thing he mentioned was the fact that he had depression. I was like "alright, facts, me too." By the third class he completely transferred the class. I dont mean he quit. No he asked another guy to fill in the rest of the semester. That guy was Charles Farmer, a little weird, but a great and laidback teacher. Get him instead.
Dr. Walker was by far one of the best teachers i've taken at GGC. What i liked most was his classroom discussions, they were always so interesting and had a lot of self reflection. Its honestly an easy A if you put in the effort and don't procrastinate your papers.
Dr. Walker gets way too much of a bad rep because people are used to being lazy. Sure he is a tough grader but the man has a PhD in what he teaches and genuinely wants you to be better. It is not a crime to be passionate. His class was always a safe place to me and i relate to a lot of his mental health struggles. He is a great professor I promise
Dr. Walker is hands down one of my favorite teachers ever. He makes class really fun, it doesn't even feel like a class. He has a great personality, but he is sometimes unreliable. He has depression and warns that sometimes he may not make it to class because of it. He canceled class a good number of times during the course.
One of my favorite classes and favorite professors. We had conducive and thought provoking class discussions. The syllabus was clear and easy to follow. They were only a few grades for the semester so if you started out strong youd end strong. Would definitely take his class again.
Very good professor. I always looked forward to attending class because I knew the discussion were going to be interesting and intriguing. Attendance and participation is huge in the class. He is a pretty tough grader but what else can you expect. I definitely recommend taking him if you can.
I took him during the fall pandemic and was supposed to have a hybrid class with him. He kept canceling the first few weeks then decided that there won't be face-face lectures for the rest of the semester. He grades nicely but that's it. Nothing else great about his character.
I took this class during COVID online. The only time I interacted with professor Walker was to email him and his emails were short and sweet. He is a tough grader though so be aware. The class however felt more like a gender studies class. I'd take the professor again but the class I will never take again.
Professor Walker is the most inconsistent professor I've ever had. He cancels class often and does not give clear directions for assignments. This course was supposed to be the second part of English Comp and it was more like a Gender studies class. We talked about genitals and sexuality more than anything. Avoid taking this professor!
He's rude. Won't care if you pass the class or not, won't help you no matter how much you ask although he says he's always there to help. Doesn't give clear instructions for assignments. Cancels class often, takes a long time to grade assignments if at all. Says participation matters but even if you participate a lot it won't make a difference.
I like English, it was always exciting and interesting. But, Professor Walker is a different perspective. He is disrespectful and irresponsible. He cancels classes. When you ask about his class he never replies and gives you the impression of not caring if you pass, learn, or participate in class. It seems he doesn't want to bothered by students.
Dr. Walker is an extraordinary professor. I would describe him as having both a spine and a heart. He is a kind person who will challenge your beliefs and give you new perspectives on topics you've never really thought about. The most fun class I have ever had!
Walker is rude he doesn't know how to talk to students and he's very disrespectful and avoid him at all costs!!!!!!
Professor Antiwan is very strict and only accepts excellence from his students. Attendance isn't mandatory but its best to be there always for class . We do readings , open discussions , and quizzes and a few essays for class! Our open discussions are always really good and sees that Professor does have a heart and easy to talk to
This professor was so terrible that I had to drop the class as soon as possible. The first day of class he brought up very inappropriate topics (people lying about r**e), the final was 50% of your grade, and he was so unorganized.
The class was constantly cancelled last minute and was very disorganized. We were all confused about what was going on with the class and what was due when. 60% of the grade was left until the last week of the semester, divided between two assignments. I would definetly not recommend this professor to anyone who likes to be organized and learn.
He was literally amazing. The way he would hold in class conversation and just be discussing the whole period about a text was so inspiring and such an incredible experience. He has strict guidelines for his assignments and how he wants them done, but I would take the class again just for the discussion that was held within.
All in all, he was average, possibly below. He would go on tirades about sex, which used up lots of time. His scheduling and time management are something left to be desired. He canceled a whole assignment due to personal issues, which is fine, but if it's a recurring issue that affects students' learning, then perhaps this job isn't meant for him.
His class was... Something left to be desired. Time was haphazardly spent; his scheduling was just not it. He canceled class on numerous occasions due to errors on his part or from his personal issues. It's okay if you have issues, but if it's recurrent and at students' expense, then he might need to rethink his teaching strat or career entirely.
Readings are long so SparkNotes helps. Quizzes for most texts. Majority of grade is determined in the last week (5-pg essay/final). Professor rambles A LOT but participating helps. He is VERY disorganized: cancels class a lot, he almost dropped/quit the class, and showed up an hour late to the final w/o having the test printed when he got there.
He was unreasonable at times. Gave no extensions on papers. I was told I couldn't turn my completed essay in a day late. Some things I turned in never got graded. I deserved an A but would often get confused with deadlines as he wanted everything by Friday and not Sunday. Not the worst but not the best.
Dr. Walker was great and lectures were interesting however he cancelled class a lot and then ended up stepping away from the semester. However, the assignments were pretty easy if you did what was asked and readings were pretty long.
Dr. Walker is a wonderful man but not when it comes to teaching. I do not think he wants to be a teacher at this point.
Professor Walker was really fun to have, he might be a little over the place during lectures (he gets distracted sometimes), but his class was something I personally enjoyed. Watched a couple of movies and did a bit of reading, only one book which is easy to read. (btw, he's scared of kitten heels)
On multiple occasions I felt uncomfortable by Dr. Antwan's tangents, he strays away from the topic to discuss inappropriate things. Worst part you cannot make up any work even if you are 10 mins late there are only about 4 grades throughout the semester. He will take a whole letter grade off if you miss a certain amount of class. Rq
don't take this teacher unless you want a good grade in this class. his assignments were okay but his lectures were nothing on what we were supposed to do for each assignment. doesn't know how to explain things properly
He was funny and an educator in every sense of the word. Being strict and making his class mandatory attendance may have been a bit donating, but it was never a dull moment.
I liked Dr walker. However he didn't really give much feedback, after recovering rlly good grades on two essays I got a not so great grade on a paper with absolutely zero feedback. His rubrics were not clear and didn't always line up with what he said in class, he cancelled class a lot. He was okay wasn't great wasn't horrible
He was unfairly review-bombed, and I can't speak on that student's experience, but I can on mine. His lectures were off-tangent (but fun), attendance IS strict, and there are FEW grades. If you're a STRONG writer and not LGBTQ+ phobic, you'll do well. The class focused on gender/feminism with straightforward assignments, except the final (ask Q's).
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR GPA HIGH DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Professor Walker's class was a mixed bag. The lectures could be interesting, but he often canceled class and struggled with time management. While the assignments were not overly difficult, he was unreasonable at times regarding deadlines. I found unstuckstudy helpful for study prep, alongside the free textbook.
Dr Walker had to grow on me as a professor but after going to a few of his lectures and actually getting involved in the class he became very likable. Most of the semester is spent reading and watching movies to prepare for a 7 page final essay. He may seem like a very LGBT and feminist biased person but allows for all view points to be spoken.
Do not take this class if literature/reading isn't your forte. Seriously, you'll fail. Avoid if you don't care about feminism/LGBTQ issues. Otherwise, I found his lectures interesting, and he gives good grammar + writing pointers. He is strict with grading, so you NEED to turn in everything on time and do the work, lots of writing.
Theme of his class is gender studies & feminism...so beware - if that's not something you can do, then avoid his class. However, personally I felt his class was fine - the class wasn't ON those topics, but rather just how they apply to society & the literature. I'd recommend him, but some won't like his theme. He's funny, and the work isn't heavy
Dr. Walker is so funny and great! Class was focused on black feminist/womanist literature, so you will have to read and watch a couple of movies in class. Discussions in class were always fun and he made the class super enjoyable. Make sure you keep up with the course schedule so you know if you have to read a piece of literature before class.
This man gives us 3 discussions post a week forcing students to write 300-600 words each! It's as if he doesn't care about your other classes and outside life, he continuously pounds you with work on top of the essays he wants you to complete. I would NEVER recommend taking this professor under no circumstance.
Show up every day, pay attention, be ready to read, be ready to write and be ready to learn! Great professor, very funny, old school, and fair on grading as long as you try.
Very hilarious all around, I truly enjoy the lectures he gives even if they may not seem necessary to others. The topics that he covers (such as racism, misogyny, etc) are real important in my eyes, and are topics we all should be aware of. Though the workload is heavy, I felt I have learnt plenty of valuable information from this course.
Dr. Walker is a very kind and patient man, and it reflects in his teaching. He can go off topic during his lectures, but his commitment to sustain professional writing, reading, and critical thinking skills is apparent. I have always struggled with English as it is not my greatest subject, but Dr. Walker created a new sense of self-confidence.
Very cool teacher, reminds me of a family friend. All you have to do is turn everything in on time and follow instructions to pass the class. Also, Dr. Walker gives feedback.
