She was sooo nice and helpful. She cared about her students and their grades. She had grade replacement for tests as sections on the final, which were optional. I strongly recommend her.
pretty good.... listen well, study for tests, you'll be fine
Professor was hard to understand because of accent and really didn't explain material well. All slides (which is the only thing in class) are online. Very helpful if you have a question, but hard to predict what's on the tests.

if you try in her class she will always be willng to help out!
Wow. Horrible professor. Thick German accent made it hard to understand her. Going to class only made me feel stupid about the material. I taught myself all of the information and made a B+. DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN'S CLASS!
This class was hard because she doesnt teach that well at all.Hard to predict what is on the test but she gives you a lot of opportunities to help your grade. The final was all the tests with the option to retake them.If you don't like chem. don't take it.
Really nice lady; uses power point but always explains the notes. Fairly easy grade-and I HATE chemistry! Always very helpful and glad to spend time with you working a problem out.
She's really easy.
She is one of the best professors in the Chem dept.!! She cares about her students and will work with anyone. Her slides are easy to understand and she offers study guides for each test. Minimal amount of studying and maximum amount of interest. She makes Chem interesting!!(And I'm an English major)
Her german accent and slightly unclear explinations can make following along difficult but she is always willing to help out. all her lessons are on powerpoint... very very helpful and convinent and all tests and quizes are straight from them.
It is really easy to make an A in this class and not even go to the lectures. All of the notes are online and the tests and quizes come straight from the notes. She is a really nice person and is very willing to work with the students. I recommend this teacher!
Breaks the subject matter down to the bare basics and presents it in easy to chew bits. Shes carismatic and friendly. Completey approachable about help issues and she enjoys good photography. Very nice professor.
Explains things clearly, goes over info as many times as you need it, review sheets are very helpful, willing to go look up answers to questions if she doesn't know, does demonstrations in class that help make the info stick in your brain and keep class interesting, always says hi to you in the hall
Really nice professor. I'm a film student and somehow managed a B. I hate chemistry but she made it as interesting as I can imagine it ever being. She's very carsimatic and fun. Unless you are totally weird, her accent is NOT an issue. Take her class!
great teacher, very helpful and tries hard to make sure everyone understands the information
An excellent teacher. Makes the effort to present material that is interesting and relevant, even to non-majors. Friendly, approachable, and willing to advise students. Homework may be done for extra credit, and Powerpoint presentations are posted online - very helpful for test review.
Very caring professor.
One of the best professors I've had at UNCW, and I am a senior now.
She is a great professor, not very hard. This class is new and has a few problems. Dr. Jones lectures for one portion and although a nice guy, the subject matter is very boring. Dr. Stapleton also lectures for a small portion and the same can be said about her lectures as well. But Almeida is top notch.
One of the best professors I've had. She's SO helpful and if you go to class it'll help you because she explains things so well. I missed a test and she let me make it up...no points taken away. Very understanding and sweet. Test are straight forward and she doesn't try and trick you.
Can't complete sentences and hardly ever understands what you're asking her. dont recommend
hard teacher.... i'm a good student, always get good grades, but I am having a really hard time an HATE going to class! Do yourself a favor and don't take this class!
She is a great teacher and enjoys Chemistry. If you dont mind an accent you should seriously consider taking a class from her. will talk to you after class if you have any questions and encourages you to ask her in class. All chemistry tests are the same so and if you take chem from her, ask her questions and understand the material=good grade.
Not a bad professor.. I personally am having trouble with the tests (same test for all chem 101 students) but she does explain things well... I might do a little better if there were more examples.. the book really isn't needed. she does give study guides, so really pay attention to the concepts on those.
Great teacher. Has an accent, but is very easy to understand. Very concerned with if students are learning or not, very helpful if you have any questions. Always willing to meet with you and always emails back. Let me make up a quiz even though the lowest one was dropped. Highly recommend
Very sweet lady. If the class doesnt understand she will go over it again. She is more concerned if students are learning. Curve after every test. Very helpful after class. A
Very helpful professor. Although new, she does an excellent job. Since CHM 101 tests are made in collaboration of all profs, it is good to have her cause she covers all the material on the test.
I lover her, she is the best chemistry teacher ever. She makes chemistry fun. She made me think about changing my major. And she always makes time to help students. Also, she relates everything to beer! How funny.
great teacher, very clear, sense of humor. doesnt just lecture but actually teaches her material.
I suck at chemistry. I ended up with a B+ in the class because I got lucky on the final. Prof. Almeida is very nice and helpful. She will always find time to help her students if they are having trouble. If you pay attention in class and study the power points regularly the tests are not that bad.
Good teacher. She makes sure everyone understands the material and will go over again if someone doesn't understand. There was no textbook for this class so you had to learn from her in class. She also put her notes she teaches from online which is helpful if you miss a day.
THE BEST!!! ive had dr. almeida for chm 101 and 102 and if you have to take chem you must get her!! she is soooo helpful and makes understanding the material easy...in a way anyone could understand it! seriously the best teacher i have ever had!! really loves what she does!!i hat chem and i got a B
Dr. Almeida is the best professor I have had at UNCW. She presents the material in a very clear manner and is very patient when students do not understand. She provides test reviews and answers all questions well. She has an accent but it is very understandable. Take her if you can!!
Almeida was very eager to help any students that needed assistance. She tried her best to make the class interesting and actually has a humerous personality. Although the class was really hard, she really helped. Go to the SI sessions!!!!
Emails the exact topics covered for quizzes, which no other professor does. Extremely helpful, cares if the class does not understand. Encourages questions and discussion to teach important points. If you don't understand something, she will spend an hour in her office with you. She makes it interesting,I think shes the best CHM professor here!
Great professor! Very helpful outside of class, very approachable. Gives lots of examples to help clear things up and always knows what she's talking about. Took her for 102 as well! Chem is hard in general, but she tried to make it as clear as possible!
Dr. Almeida is amazing! She makes everything very clear and easy to understand. She is especially great at giving examples that are easy to understand and is helpful for visual learners. She made chemistry very entertaining for me.
Decent professor, material is difficult. SI sessions help and lab will definitely boost your grade. Best advice is to get a head start on studying and keep up with the material because final covers it all and can replace prior test grades.
took her for 101 and 102. great teacher, explains things well, answers all questions as best she can, and is very smart. I find the tests very very hard, and im a BIO major. Take her, but dont make the mistake of thinking u can skip lecture (like i did). class covers a ton of challenging material at a fast pace. Grade replacement can save your @$$
She obviously loves Chemistry, and this makes a huge difference in her lectures. She is so excited about it and obviously loves teaching it. If you don't understand something, ask. She is always willing to explain things and she has a great way of doing it. She tries hard to make complex things simple by using a lot of metaphors that work great
INCREDIBLE person and Professor!! So smart and very clear, seriously, if you want to take gen chem, take it with her. you wont be sorry!!! SO AWESOME
Dr. Almeida is an extremely good teacher who loves what she does. She is willing to help you in any way possible & loves when students ask questions in class. She makes the material very easy to understand. Her examples and analogies are awesome. She makes class interesting and fun even if you don't like chemistry! The final is grade replacement!!
Awesome professor loves to answer questions during class, and very approachable.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Almeida. She is definitely my favorite professor and I am disappointed that I can't take her for CHM 102 (because her classes are already full!). She is very fun and personable. She makes really good analogies to help you remember things. TAKE HER! Best chemistry professor ever!
Professor Almeida is by far the BEST chem 101 teacher. She has great and helpful power points that she shows in class and then posts them online. You still need to go to class!!! She prepares you for exams, shes very funny, accent is a little difficult to understand and she is extremely helpful!!! I recommend her to anyone taking this class!!
Dr. Almeida is amazing. Take her. That is all I'm going to say.
Dr. Almeida is THE BEST CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT! She is SO passionate about chemistry and her enthusiasm radiates to the students. I have yet to meet a student who did not like her. She is ALWAYS available for help and really really wants you to understand chemistry. TAKE HER!!!!!
She is nice and smart she really wants students to understand. She tries her hardest, she tells jokes and relates things to real life so it will stick with you. It's a hard class so will definitely need to study for exams.
Wonderful teacher! Highly enthusiastic, funny and willing to help any student. Now don't get me wrong Chemistry is not an easy topic but she certainly makes the class more interesting and easier to understand.
Dr. Almeida is hilarious, detailed, and a great professor. If you pay attention in class and do all the required work, the class isn't too hard. The tests do require you to really understand your stuff, but Dr. Almeida tries her hardest to ensure everyone knows what they need to know!
I loved Dr. Almeida! She is so sweet and actually wants to help her students. Her lectures are really clear and engaging. The tests are hard, but if you pay attention and seek help, you can get through it. I would definitely recommend taking her class! Oh, and tests are curved which helps a lot.
One of the best Chem teachers I've ever had. Tests were hard, but the tests were standard throughout all Chem classes. She's extremely helpful with any questions and tries to relate hard topics to interesting things. I would definitely take her but be prepared to work hard for an A. She's also pretty funny so it's not boring!
I absolutely LOVED her. If you're looking for a great professor for Chm 101, she is the one. She is very open and helps her students in any way possible. TAKE HER!
Dr. Almeida is a great instructor. She is very silly and makes GREAT examples (mainly with candy in place of chemicals). She also never gets irritated with questions. Highly recommend taking her.
Almedia is a great chemistry teacher and teaches you everything you need to know.
Almeida is awesome. CHM 102 isn't easy but she makes it very relatable to the real world and tries to make lectures fun. She is always willing to answer questions and is unbelievably helpful. The curves on tests will save you. Best choice of professor for this class. Everyone loves her!
Dr. Almeida was my favorite professor, she makes class really fun! I will say though her test are a little tricky and thats the only downside.
Lengthy amount of material covered. To do well, review notes regularly, do HW for practice, use book for extra practice. There's a little history, little algebra. Read & Review notes often. Refer to TEXT for help with harder concepts, for ex.s, or pictures. Memorize-use diff. mnemonics to study smart. Dr. Almeida understanding and great!
Dr. Almeida is one of the best lecturers I've had at UNCW. Very clear. There's a ton of material to cover in Biochem and there's not much she can do to make it easier, but she does everything she can to help you understand. 4 tests and that's it. 1st test is hardest, 3rd is easiest. Final is cumulative and only counts as a regular test. No HW.
If you have to take any Chem class, choose Dr. Almeida; she's super thorough in her lectures, and loves to answer questions. DON'T be afraid to ask if you're stuck! She doesn't know how fast you learn, so she appreciates the questions. Study hard for the tests, and take good notes in class if you expect to pass. SI sessions are basically useless.
Dr. Almeida tries to keep students engaged with her humor and often uses some of her favorite things as examples to make students laugh (alcohol examples or candy examples). She's pretty straight forward, and does practice problems during lecture as the material is being covered. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would definitely go in 102.
Almeida is such a great woman. It's not her fault that Chemistry is such a difficult class to teach, it's just something you get or don't get. I felt like her powerpoint and lectures were confusing and all over the place. However she offered a lot of help when she could. She really wanted us to understand the things we were learning.
Personally liked the way she runs lectures, the important thing is that you ask questions in class if you don't understand something at first. You will have to study for this class a fair amount to do well (I did). She is very good at giving you help if you email or come to her with problems or concepts that you don't understand.
Dr. Almeida is an amazing woman. She does her best to explain everything about chemistry and she always creates simple analogies which make concepts easier. She will spend half the class answering questions so don't be afraid to raise your hand.
Dr. Almeida is absolutely amazing and is hilarious. She is willing to answer any questions and very helpful.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Almeida for CHM 101 and 102! Extremely helpful, encourages you to go to her office hours if you didn't understand something in class. She's funny, engaging, and really wants her students to learn. Chemistry is a hard subject regardless of the professor, just study hard and you can pass the class with no problems.
I loved Prof Almeida for 102 she always did her best to describe the harder concepts and found a way to relate it to something easier to understand. i didnt buy the textbook and studied notes twice a week and got a good grade. nothing to stress about with almeida!
She is a great caring teacher who cares a lot about her student's success, and can make pretty cool quips about Chemistry to make it more enjoyable to students. I am not the best in Chemistry, but still she made it easy to understand. The only thing that I had a problem with is the grading scale that she uses, where the test is half the grade.
I LOVE having Dr. Almeida for Biochemistry. It's a notoriously challenging course, and she makes you really think to do well. You can't skate by just going to exams here. The textbook isn't helpful but her explanations are more concise and she's really funny. The only grades are 3 exams and the final. Don't expect an easy A, and go to lectures!
A lot of notes and studying that needs to be done outside of class.
Chemistry is hard to teach regardless and she does a great job. Her tests are tough as they are not multiple choice and the questions aren't always directly from class. Quizzes are always online and open all day. Homework is easy and theres not too much of it. I didn't open my textbook once but you need it for the online access code to homework.
She's a nice person but a horrible teacher. I barely passed this class. When she explained some things in the notes, it just made it more confusing. It was too much to keep up with. I had to try and teach myself everything. Never taking her again.
I love Dr. Almeida. She is very funny, very smart, and very kind. She never ever makes you feel dumb for asking questions and understands that this class can be difficult for some students. Definitely recommend bringing specific questions on hard problems to her office hours so she can help. I strongly recommend her!
Professor Almeida is possibly the best choice you can have for general chemistry at UNCW( I had her for 101 and 102). She's clear and concise with her lectures and always encourages students to ask questions and to come to her office hours if they need help. Awesome professor overall!
Almeida makes Chemistry enjoyable and fun! If you have the chance to take her, do it! Make it your goal to make an A and succeed in Chemistry.
Almeida really is a great chemistry professor. Her lectures are interesting and helpful as long as you're engaged and the way she answers questions helps even the people who weren't confused understand things better. She has a sassy and fun personality which helps make the course easier to get thru. Take her class!!
Almeida is literally amazing. She genuinely wants you to succeed so if you do too then this class shouldn't be a problem. She is very good at explaining abstract topics in an understandable way and loves answering questions.
I LOVE Dr. Almeida. She makes sure nobody has questions and everyone understands the material before moving on. She is super helpful in her office hours and in class. Posts practice tests before every exam and loves to go over them in office hours. I'm taking CHM102 with her next semester and am so excited. I don't like chemistry but I love her.
Dr. Almeida is an amazing professor! Chem 102 was a hard class, but her lectures were amazing and she really cares about her students. She has no problem helping you with anything that you are struggling with. Definitely take her for Chem if you have the chance!
I LOVED DR. ALMEIDA!!! Shes one of the best science teacher's I've had. She's so caring, will literally help you every step of the way. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I wanted to go to class because she was that great of a teacher.
she is very personable and will help if you are struggling with biochemistry. in addition to the exams are homework modules that count for 25% of the grade, so this is a nice break from the usual courseload. however, exams are very challenging and there is certainly going to be a curve on them. our class had curves on each of the three tests
She is an amazing person and has a kind heart and wants you to truly succeed in her class. She is the best Chemistry teacher I have had so far and she has made the material very clear and easy for me to understand. If I could take her for Organic Chemistry I would, becuase she knows exactly what she is talking about! Take her if you have the chance
CHM 350 really is a class where as long as you do the assignments (which are very easy) you will make an A. Dr. Almeida really cares about her students and just wants to share with chem majors tips on how to be successful. She's very nice and funny and makes the class a sweet, easy break from the rest of our difficult chemistry classes. Take her!
Almeida was great, chem is just hard. She has a little bit of an accent if that bothers you. But she is truly passionate about chem and uses real examples in daily life which I found useful. I liked her even though chem was so hard
She's really open to helping you out and wants you to succeed. She will meet outside of class and help you, but you have to go to her.
I am finishing Chem 101 right now and she is an amazing teacher! While I said attendance isn't mandatory, I highly recommend you join her zoom sessions if you have her online (or go in person if you get the chance to be in person). She is extremely helpful and will meet with students outside of class. She clearly wants everyone to succeed! Take her
My class with this teacher was online due to the pandemic. Almeida was awesome!! She's super helpful, and makes learning chem fun! Just here to say that it's hard material but if you study and attend SI and her additional optional lectures, as well as do well on labs and homework, and complete every extra credit module, you can easily get an A.
She really simplifies chem and gives you all the necessary items you need to do well in the class. I took her online where she posted 4-5 lectures every week that were around 12 minutes long each. You have weekly homework due on Pearson where you can email her questions and she will get back to you usually within an hour. 10/10 take her!!!
She is amazing! Enough said.
One of best prof. at UNCW. Chem is tough but take her & you'll be in good hands. Has short lecture vids & ppt slides and she uses good analogies & wants students to understand & participate. Zoom 3X week to work on examples & ans. questions. Very understanding and passionate. HW thru pearson and lockdown browser for exams. Take her, u won't regret
Great professor, likes to connect with students if given the chance. You will have to study, but I found that those who did poorly also waited until the last minute for homeowrl and studying. WORK AHEAD- and you will do well. Commonly pushes back due dates if she feels students are having trouble understanding topics.
Dr. Almeida is amazing!! If you are worried about chemistry you will not be worried in her class. She is always there to explain things differently if you dont understand it and shes incredibly kind. Shes funny with her lectures too!!
I loved Dr. Almeida. She was so funny, smart, and such a caring person. She was always wanting to help, after class, over email, or during office hours. There were one or two things that came up on exams that we briefly discussed, which was a little frustrating, but other than that there were no other issues. Would highly recommend this professor.
I really enjoyed her class. She really cares about her students and wants to make sure everyone understands her lessons.
Amazing professor. Super kind and understanding and makes a lot of sense. This was a very hard class though. Exams were take home but so so so hard. Def take her
I have taken Professor Almeida for CHM 101 and 102. She listens to her students. If they are struggling on a homework assignment, she pushes it back. She cares about our success in the class and motivates us to do well. Personally, I can learn everything I need from just the homework program, but her lectures are so good I show up anyway.
I would take Professor Almeida again in a heartbeat! She is so sweet and genuinely wants to help you succeed. Being chemistry, it is already a difficult subject but she tries to explain everything in simple terms.
Great professor. Took her for CHM 101 and 102. Aleks is a pain for homework but she is a great professor. Super Nice.
This class was very difficult for me. While the professor is a very nice person and cares for students, the material was not explained well. In addition, I found that tests did not match up well with class material. Lectures were very lengthy and was a lot to absorb. If you need lots of explanation and steps broken down I would not recommend.
If I could take Dr. Almeida for all of my chemistry courses, I would In a heartbeat. This was my second time taking Chem 102, and I got the grade I got because she makes me want to actually go to class. You can tell she really cares and is passionate about the subject as well as her students. But, go to class, you won't pass if you don't go.
I've always hated chemistry and now I'm doing a Chemistry minor because of how amazing she was. She is truly passionate about the topic. The reason why some people didn't like it is that it was a "flipped classroom". We would have lecture videos at home, and then do more examples during class. Most people didn't watch the videos.
Professor Almeida is an incredible professor! There are three exams and the final can help those final exam grades. Beware because the homework is pretty time-consuming but the homework is the same for all the chem 101 professors. Shes incredibly kind and is amazing at lectures!
Dr. Almeida was amazing in CHM 101!!! While this class in general is hard, she sets up the class style in a way that is really helpful. She posts all the lectures online and in class you go through different style of problems or highlight on harder topics instead of just sitting and listening to a lecture.
Engaging lectures and clearly answers questions and explains topics.
The amount of love that I have for this woman. She is one of the most passionate and engaging professors that I had the pleasure of learning from. I hope she never loses her spark and continues to teach in the way she does. The material isn't hard but requires effort from your end + a lot of homework. Give it your best shot and you'll be ok.
Dr. Almeida was amazing! A good instructor and really wanted her students to learn chemistry. If you are confused, do not be afraid to ask questions because she loves answering them. I'm planning on taking her again for CHM 102. HIghly recommend.
You can tell she genuinely knows what she is talking about and cares about it. Explains things super well.
Chem is gonna be hard regardless of who teaches it. Almeida is very nice and super helpful to students. I very STRONGLY suggest attending SI regularly. I cannot stress that enough. Almeida explains things the books way, and the SI leader explains things the easier way. The SI leader also has given attendees multiple additional resources!
She was so amazing and genuinely cares about her students. Chemistry is hard but she does a good job trying to explain. The exams have a small curve based off of the class score.
Almeida is the best chem professor on campus. I went into chem not knowing a single thing, and I was able to pass with an A. The material is hard but if you actually go to class and take notes you will do fine in the class. She goes over many problems similar to the ones on the exam, and the exams are online. Take Almeida if you have to take chem!
Dr. Almeida is great at science and is enthusiastic about it. I felt though she would get ahead of herself bounce around while explaining a topic. This made it hard to follow her point. If you actually go to class it's 10x easier overall. She is good and I would take her but you need to listen and ask questions.
Professor Almeida was funny but for the purposes of my learning, not the best TEACHER. She didn't often do practice problems, and I always left her lectures feeling like I didn't learn anything/confused. She rambles & I found myself clueless multiple times when doing the homework and exams. I taught a lot of the content to myself using Aleks.
I loved her! Her lectures were pretty easy to follow and understand, but I wish she would have done more practice problems after each topic. The ALEKS homework was a lot different than what we were learning in class, and different than the exams, which confused me. She did a good job of removing the assignments that we didn't get to, though.
I first I thought I liked her, wrong. She doesn't care about majority of the students. You only have 5 grades. Aleks due twice a week, 3 exams, and final. Lectures always pointless bc she explains as if you already know the concept, basically reviews each chapter. Would not take if you struggle with chem already, she will make you more confused.
Professor Almeida is great - her lectures are engaging, and she genuinely cares about student learning. With diligent practice and using study tools like Unstuck ai, you can excel in this challenging but rewarding class.
Really awesome and smart professor, you can tell she knows what she's talking about. CHECK ALEKS EVERYDAY!! I forgot all the time that's why I didn't get an A, but the lectures were interesting and she's pretty funny so don't be afraid to ask questions. 4 exams with final and just a bunch of hw but it's not even that bad
Dr. Almeida was nice but always was confused during lecture since I felt she went all over the place. I felt some things could have been explained or taught better on her end. She was nice, but I just did not click with the way she taught. I was thrilled I ended with a B since I struggled in this class.
She likes to ramble about lots of things that you don't actually need to know, but if you show up, pay attention, and take notes during lecture she makes sure you will understand. I really loved the slideshows she put together they were very easy to follow.
It felt like she expected us to already know the basics of chemistry and she kind of went all over the place during lectures. It wasn't too hard of a class, but it is hard to actually learn the material.
Although she was a very nice professor, I found that the class material did not match the homework. Your grade consists of your three exams, the final, and the Aleks homework. If you don't understand chemistry easily or don't have any background in chemistry, this class is not for you.
She was a great professor. She cares a lot about students and will always answer questions. She reviews everything a class before the test. All tests are online, multiple-choice choice 21 questions. Only 3 tests in the class. Final exam grade can replace any test grade that you did worse on. Hard class if you haven't ever taken chemistry before.
3 exams weighed heavily on my grade, and then a final. There was only one homework grade for the entire class, which we all submitted. I had to calculate my own grade because she made it invisible on Canvas for the entire class. Very hard to understand and had very scattered lectures. Always at least 5 minutes late to class every day.
This professor does go on tangents in the middle of the class, and for things you don't actually need to know. There are 3 exams and a final, but the final does replace an exam grade. All of the homework gets averaged and used as only one grade. The lectures are not mandatory, but you'll struggle a lot if you miss multiple lectures.
