Average teacher. Grades come from exams and the online homework. The notes she gives in class are very broad summaries of the reading material, so the textbook - also available online - is the one source for passing the class.
She is actually a pretty good professor. She tries to make the lectures interesting as best as she can with economics. However, this is definitely NOT an easy course. The tests are tough and she isn't very good at reviews for them. So study hard and do the online work.
Good Professor. She does try to make things interesting even though it is not. This is a difficult class. Make sure you attend ALL classes and take GREAT notes. STUDY STUDY
Don't recommend at all... She goes off topic during class and talks about TODAY'S economy which doesn't help you with material you need to know. She leaves you hanging for test reviews as well, you're on your own. Also, she doesn't give notes, you have to just listen. My notes never helped, & I would study for hours and not be pleased with my grade
DO NOT RECOMMEND. She is not very thourough in her class, Test are very hard and unexpected with the level of the tests compared to her notes and homework.
This witch is the absolute worst teacher ever. Can't stay focused to save her life and rambles. I should really be writing a review for myeconlab which ended up being a WAY better teacher. The WORST part of her style is during exam day when she incites panic by yelling at everyone to hurry up and not leave any seats empty. She's a dramatic nutcase.
Don't take this class with her. Her lectures are irrelevant. Don't buy the book. There is a full E-Text book on MyEcon that you also have to buy. She goes off on random tangents during class. Also her exams leave you with 2 possible answers. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. SAVE YOURSELF
First of all, this lady is crazy! Second, going to her lectures are useless. The best way to pass is to thoroughly read the book and use the EconLab resources to study. I stopped going to lecture after the first test and my grade improved from a 62 to an 87. All of the bad reviews below are accurate in that she becomes nut on test days! AVOID HER!!
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She makes you feel stupid and is not helpful one bit. She tells u junk about changing the way u study for her exams which are very difficult but when u study what she tells u the grade does not go up. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR. If you decide to take her class you just made a GIGANTIC MISTAKE.
class is very boring the lectures are so dry and boring that everyone is either sleeping, txting,or on Facebook. attending lecture is a joke. She gets off topic a lot. She in my opinion should not be allowed to teach any course on campus. She gets super crazy on exam day. Her tests r very hard.I would not recommend this professor to take at all.
The class is moderately difficult - mostly bc it's reading intensive. You really need to read every chapter as you go. The online hw isn't graded, but it helps a ton. Lectures are only beneficial if you have everything read by the time she lectures on it or you're lost (I barely went). She wasn't terrible. Spend time on the reading & use myeconlab!
Class average for our tests were from 66-70. Why would you ever take her class WILLINGLY? She's even worse in her office hours.
Enviro Eco -- I loved the class and Dr. Criss has a passion for it. Three exams, a group project and a couple class discussions. A relatively easy class, just read the material and study it. Awesome person to have as a professor!
Labor Econ. Three exams and econometric exercises. I loved her as a person and I enjoyed the material of the class. Study and you'll be fine!
Truly a wonderful teacher. Dr. Criss' lectures are clear, precise and thorough. Great sense of humor. Show up and study for exams; you'll do great.
Horrible professor. Has lost her marbles, and although she seems like she knows what she is talking about, her tests are out of the sky. No way to prepare for this one. Save yourself the sleepless nights.
Way too hard for a 2000 level micro class. Would not recommend her. Grade is 90% tests, 10% HW. NO CURVES. Gives a quiz at end of semester to add a bonus to your final, but it really doesn't help. Class average was about 68% on all tests. Take another professor for micro/macro
Worst USF professor I have ever had take someone else unless you want a major hit to your GPA
Hard, but fair. The book will be your lifesaver and you have to get the USF custom book. Ask the TAs questions! Practice and practice some more. MyEcon Lab will help you and give you lots of practice problems. Use it! Dont miss class because she does make powerpoints but she wont make them available for personal use.
One of the worst professors I have had during my time at USF. She doesn't teach during the class, everything is based off of tests (90% no joke) and if you do end up taking her do NOT study any math behind it. Study definitions they are the tests. Once again, a horrible professor and you shouldn't take her.
Be Aware! Stay away from her if you can unless you want a teacher to ruin your GPA. She is difficult and try to be funny in class. The average grade for her exams is around 70-75 and she don't curve grades. You been warn...
Criss is very condescending, so be careful when you ask questions in lecture, but she knows very much about economics. I learned much more than I thought I would. The Exams are surprisingly easy, given that you go to lecture. HW is due every friday, but is easy as well. No quizzes. Not a bad class.
Professor Criss expects you to remember everything she says. She knows a lot about economics, but she's very condescending. I did well in the class by using myeconlab and I never went to class. Macro is an easy class in itself, but Criss makes it way harder than it needs to be. I got a B+ with zero effort but most people got C's.
Class attendance is not mandatory and her lectures are so boring that you will choose to not attend class and rather study through the book and myeconlab powerpoints. Overall not a good teacher, makes material harder than it really is.
Dr. Criss' class is absolutely TERRIBLE. Too hyperactive, too obnoxious, goes on irrelevant tangents mid-lecture and is not straight forward with the information even when she seems like shes on track. No hopes on the exams with the lack of discipline she has. Save yourself the money, frustration and trouble.
She knows a lot about Economics, but she makes the class more difficult than it has to be. I'm an Economics major and I'm failing her class. I'm looking for a better Economics professor for the next time around. Don't take her class.
Dr. Criss rules! Her tests are not easy because they're multiple choice and there are curveballs in many of the questions, but if you attend her lectures, take good notes, read the textbook, use the MyEconLab resources, and mark your answers carefully on the tests, you should earn a passing grade.
Do not take econ with her if you don't have too!! Exams make up 90% of the grade, homework is only 10 points. Not clear on what to study and study guides are so general they don't help. I was lucky enough to get a B- and I studied for two days straight for the final. Save yourself and your GPA and find another teacher!!
I barely passed this class. The homework is easy, but only accounts for 10% of your grade. Her lectures are really repetitive. Your lowest exam is replaced by the final and there's a quiz before the final that you can get extra points with. If you study a bit harder than me and figure out her tricky tests, it will be an okay class.
She's an okay teacher. Very funny and dynamic in class so it's enjoyable but the tests are a little more challenging. If you study hard and do the homework and talk to the TA's though you should do well. Take advantage of the TA's and also take advantage of the optional test right before the final. You get extra points.
Great professor, makes the subject easy if you go to class and follow her notes!
Dr. Criss' exams are extremely difficult. Each exam I thought I did well only to find out that I did not. Class averages on exams are in the 60's (out of a class of 250-300 students. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Criss is judged a little too harshly in my opinion. That being said, her tests are not easy and she gives zeros for late assignments, although I forgot to fill out a scantron on a test and she still gave me credit for my circled answers. She is very condescending towards questions that she thinks are easy. Don't let her see your phone.
Environmental Econ: three big exams for 90% with attendance taken occasionally for the 10. VERY boring lectures, she sort of drones on pointlessly it feels! Avoid if there is a better alternative. Studied hours for exams, barely escaped w/ A-!
Her class exams are VERY difficult. Attendance isn't required, but even if you attend every class... it doesn't matter. I didn't miss one class and I studied and didn't pass. The class average was a 60, and there was about 250+ of us. Too many curve balls on the tests. It seems as if she was out to get you and make you fail. SUPER condescending too
She is the worst professor. Don't ever take her. If you fail an exam she emails you personally to tell you that you failed, just to make you feel worse. Be prepared to retake this class if you take it with her.
I feel as though some of the reviews are harsh, but they are true. The tests can be VERY confusing and sometimes the material on them seems completely unrelated to what we're studying. USE THE BOOK OR YOU WILL FAIL, but her lectures are just packed with too much in depth, mostly irrelevant information. She is rather condescending too.
TEACHER IS VERY SARCASTIC AND NOT HELPFUL. MANY TIMES SHE MAKES YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN APPROACHING HER
Hands down the WORST teacher I have had in college so far. Test average was a D for each one. HW does nothing for grade. Does not prepare students for the exams she gives. Material in class is not reflected on exams. DO NOT TAKE CLASS.
This teacher is an a hole. That's honestly the best way to describe her. She just does things specifically to see you trip up so she can be all smug about it when she tells you the right answer, if she even tells you. HOWEVER, she is a surprisingly lenient grader, so it's definitely possible to pass this class. The first exam is the hardest.
A lot of people did not like her class but I definitely did! She made a lot of jokes in her lectures and always stayed around after class to answer questions. Her TA's were always available for questions too!
The textbook is excellent and the lectures are a great addition. Know the material thoroughly. The professor can come across as abrasive; however the lectures are interesting and well-formed. I personally enjoyed the class.
Took this class online so there was very little student to professor interaction. She sends too many emails but they were clear cut. There are weekly quizzes on Friday which can be annoying to remember to take them. Also weekly homework. A few discussion posts but those were easy. Overall not bad, google is very helpful.
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN! I took Macroeconomics with her and it was so hard! The class was online and VERY textbook based so there was A LOT of reading. The homework wasn't too, bad but the weekly quizzes were impossible unless you read the whole chapter. The only good thing is that she curved our final grades since the class average was a 75%
Macro was super difficult because the only resource is your book and it's hard to learn everything on your own. Weekly quizzes are due on Friday and are tough, weekly homework due on Thursdays and is super easy. Be ready to read a lot of chapters and to learn on your own, try to avoid if you can.
Horrible teacher. quizzes are every week and 50% of your grade and are almost impossible. must read the book if you want to pass. homework due every week and very easy but only like 15% of your grade. reached out to her for help hoping she can better explaining what a discussion question was asking and she refused to clarify. avoid her!
First teacher I've had where the quiz doesn't correlate with the material you are reading. If you care a lot about your GPA avoid this class, you shouldn't be studying your a off just to take a quiz full of trick questions to get a C or D. This is the type of teacher that likes to see you trip up, avoid if possible.
This class is probably the toughest I've ever taken at USF, not because of the subject (I love economics) but the professor. I respect Dr. Criss and the experiences she has through her careers, but the way she teaches is difficult to grasp. The class was great, even though the materials were a little challenging. You must study or you will fail.
If there is literally any other professor available take them. Not worth the frustration of taking this class. Not only does she not explain the corriculum poorly, she is inconsiderate and rude to her students. Literally take any other professor
I think a lot fo the complaints here are from people who aren't really passionate about economics. If Dr. Criss sees that you want to learn, you show up every day, and you are truly putting forth your best effort - she is helpful and engaging. I really love her as a teacher!
Dr. Criss is the most condescending professor at USF. When asked for help her response was, "Google it because it is not my responsibility to help you"
I took her for International Economics and although in the beginning I found the class really tough, if you are an econ major you'll definitely enjoy her lectures. She explains things throughly and accurately. Definitely take her, it's worth the effort.
Professor Criss is a very condescending. Having said that, her lectures are amazing and you just need to pay attention to understand them. I would definitely take her again. It's honestly not that hard if you make an effort. Her first test is the hardest one. Just go to class and work in groups (don't go to her office hours- she'll destroy you)
Dr. Criss was willing to work with me when my Army Reserve schedule got in the way of class, and allowed me to retake two tests that I had missed because of my absence. She clearly has mastery over the material that she teaches. An overall great choice for an introduction to economics. Shoutout to TA Stephen Farrington who kept me from failing.
Terrible teacher. scolds you when you come to her office hours for help.
I took this class online and passed with an A. Dr. Criss literally sends you so many emails about what is due and if you missed an assignment you went out of you way to fail. Do the work and you will pass. This class is not hard if you do the work. I would recommend to all my friends to take this class.
Dr. Criss provides everything you need to pass, however she is very condescending. I emailed her a couple of times over the semester to verify things and she would be very rude in her emails. Overall an okay course, just do the work on time and you'll be fine. Only did worse than expected because I slacked off in the beginning
This teacher is definitely not the best option. I remember one time the wifi was tripping in the library, I told the prof, and she allowed no retake on the quiz. There were a few written assignments. I took it online, so you have to purchase the access code. Also, every time I emailed her she always came off as rude.
Dr. Criss wasn't completely terrible, but she most definitely is not the best. Don't bother trying to email her. Offers no extra credit, no late work, and a tough grader for the written assignments. The work itself is not difficult. You'll use mylab for homework and take quizzes instead of tests. Don't forget to do quizzes, they're weighted heavy
In the syllabus it says to email the TAs for homework questions, so I emailed three of them. The homeworks are due Thursday nights and I like to finish mine on Monday so I don't have to worry about it. All three of the TAs didn't answer within 72 hours so I emailed the professor and she refused to answer my question and told me to email the TAs.
Very condescending and rude professor. Don't try to email with any questions as she seems to not want to be bothered at all and her TAs don't answer. Tough grader on the discussion posts, gave me points off for "spelling errors" that were not even there. I would not recommend this professor to anyone unless they enjoy stress.
Worst teacher ever, extremelly disrespectful and arrogant!
Ive studied at 3 other colleges, and this is the worst professor Ive come across. She is rude, condescending, and couldnt care less about her students. The course isnt difficult, she is just a nightmare. Refuses to answer questions, says its not her job. Speaks volumes about the school of business that she has been allowed to teach so long.
Only did first day of class and dropped it because she was very condescending. Student ask questions and she was rude and talking loud embarrassing. She is not a teacher to help if you need it, I ask her about needed algebra and she said you absolutely do and you don't need to take her class if you haven't. If you take her she no-nonsense teacher
Criss was the worst professor. I did all of the homework, went to every class, went to tutoring every week, had three study groups per week, read the textbook, AND watched ACDC Leadership youtube videos to try and get through this class and got a C. She is really demeaning and rude. I am in Micro with Jones now and have an A with no problem.
All these accolades and she refuses to share a drop of knowledge with her students. Online quizzes are the bulk of the grade, you have 90 seconds per question and have to answer them sequentially without seeing the others making the quizzes extremely difficult to complete in the time allotted, especially when math is involved. She's a nightmare.
About one homework assignment per week, but they're extremely difficult, you only get one chance per question, and take hours to complete. She is the rudest professor I have ever come across and definitely likes when students fail. She will not answer questions in class and be prepared to be humiliated if you try to (she will call you out!).
Very limited in how much help you can get on assignments. She wants you to read before the lecture, show up, and read after the lecture. Homework is every friday. You have 23 hours to finish the quiz on friday. Papers are due at 5pm on the friday, not midnight! watch for that if you take her
I've had a lot of professors, never once have I had a professor that could be as rude as professor Criss. She once snapped at a student who asked a simple question about the material he didn't understand. She refused to answer his question in an extremely rude manner. She's an utterly terrible teacher with no respect for her students.
Dr. Criss is the worst professor I've had. Although she is knowledgeable on the topic she teaches, she makes students who ask a question feel stupid and speaks to them in a very rude manner. She does not post her lecture so you have to be in class to get the material. She is extremely strict and class is miserable because of her terrible attitude.
Listen. This is a 2000 level class so it is NOT supposed to be as hard as it was. Not saying the class itself was difficult but if you're looking for an easy A, then you're better off taking this class at a community college. Dr. Criss gives very little help and does not allow her students to work ahead. Her due dates differ as well so be careful.
Honestly one of the most intimidating professors I ever had. She goes very in depth with the material in lectures, but it can be confusing to understand everything. You should definitely sign up for tutoring or make study groups because her exams are super wordy and difficult. If you put in the work you'll be able to pass.
Dr. Criss is very intimidating and the subject material can be difficult. However, by just showing up to lectures, doing the homework, and occasionally reading the textbook it is a very easy class to pass. She has curved every exam we have had & truly isn't as hard/terrible as everyone seems to think. Not a hard class if you put time into it.
Tough grader and attitude with students not worth the credit, as well not responding to answer questions comes back with rude tone. Overall horrible class
worst professor i've ever had, she does not know how to explain and the tests are composed from thing she didn't even mention
This professor really does not know how to teach. She prefers to just insult you when you need help or examples of something. She is just rude.
Most irritating class. I love economics, but don't take with her. The quizzes & homework are fine, but there are (seemingly) simple projects/essay type assignments that are impossible to actually do well on. They take off for the most ridiculous things that are NOT on the rubric, and the TA's give responses for it that are literally idiotic.
Class is online and structured in a way where you have a chapter from the textbook to read then homework thursday and a quiz friday. Quiz is difficult because you can't go back on questions to check over. There is also no extra credit. You basically teach yourself. If this is your first time doing economics, I won't recommend.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I'd rather transfer than take this professor again. She made me hate my major. I can't explain to you how difficult she tried to make things it's like she wants you to not succeed. ALL QUIZZES are timed 15 minutes because she wants to make your life miserable. If you want to hate college more than you do take her.
weeklyone quiz, one homework assignment, and one chapter read out of the textbook Quizzesextremely hard, none of the questions asked in the homework are on the quiz and the homework does not prepare you for the quiz. Homework really easy Readingright down every definition, concept, and copy all graphs and shifts I do not recommend this profess
Alright, so this class should be very straight forward however, Criss almost tries to finds ways to take off points and its very inconsistent. For example "Two of your responses exceed the word count limit - that limit was put in place for a reason." Not only were the responses over by maybe 3 or 4 words to complete my thought I received a -50%
She would give you 10 minutes to complete a 15 question quiz; the questions on the quiz don't mirror the homework or lesson that was taught. We were told that we couldn't go to her for help first and the lessons were to just read the book. I'm not even mad about my grade, but her teaching style is not beneficial at all
DONT TAKE ONLINE. You have to teach yourself as you are to read one long chapter every week. This is followed by a long, tedious homework assignment that relates nothing to the 10 question quiz. You have 15 minutes and cant go back once one is answered. She is extremely rude and unwilling to help her students. No extra credit and hard to do well.
I didnt believe the other reviews but I wish I did. Expects you to read long chapters every week, do long annoying hw assignments that dont relate to the quizzes, and then a quiz thats 10 qs in 15 mins and you cant even go back to a previous question. Kinda rude too. It sucks bc we have to pay for this and she doesnt even help. No extra credit
I am in the military and took this class this spring there were many times when i was called upon and had late notice to tell my professors about the change all but this profess. were understandable especially with this corona outbreak, my unit was called to duty and i was not able to get an extension for the final which cause me plenty of problems
So I took her for Econ online. I missed one assignment due to the fact that I had a death in the family. I asked her could I turn the assignment in 10 mins late (because she made the assignment due at 5 when assignments are due at 11) and she still told me no even though were having a global crisis & my family member passed. Please do NOT take her
Be prepared to learn on your own the only lectures are given by a professor from FAU haven't even seen anything from her. Good luck if you take this class.
For a 2000 level class this class makes me hate my major. The homework assignments she gives are such a waste of time and they don't even help. The way this class is setup is just beyond awful and it's set up for you to fail, not for you to do well. The professor doesn't seem to help and does not show too much.
I made an account solely to express my dissatisfaction with Dr. Criss. To begin, let me tell you that quizzes are VITAL to your grade and each quiz is 10 questions and you are given only 15 minutes to answer. There is no going back either so pray that you know exactly what you're doing. This class caused so much pain that I changed majors. DONOTTRY
Horrible professor, doesn't teach anything, doesn't like to help students whatsoever, tough grader, AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS
This professor is the reason I changed my major. She was very disrespectful and not willing to help at all. I emailed on multiple accounts and her responses were filled with disrespect. Do not take this professor if you actually want to learn. It is all book and video based from random people. Quizzes have nothing to do with what you learn.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER! She does not show any effort to help her students! She does not teach and makes the student watch these videos rather than actually teaching sessions. For all the tuition we pay we deserve someone that would actually go above and beyond with our education and Dr. Criss is not it. The class is designed for you to fail.
AVOID CRISS AT ALL COSTS. She makes your 15 min timed quizzes worth 50% of your grade so if you miss one or do poorly on any of them you're done for. I missed one because I had COVID19 and she didn't care. Her TA's make you fail even when you try your hardest. I've never even seen a picture or video from this lady. You're taught by videos not her!
Dr. Criss is the most useless professor I have ever had. I paid extra, on top of tuition, to get access to lecture videos by a professor from a different university. Her course runs on auto-pilot and she puts it in her syllabus that you cannot ask her questions about active homework. Ridiculous quiz/final formatting, fluctuating deadlines. Don't.
She does not actually teach this course as lectures and all course materials are from another prof. She is very condescending and rude in her course announcements, and because of this I never felt comfortable emailing her any questions. Know that by taking her class, you are teaching yourself 100% of the material. Her TAs seemed nice and were fair.
Doesnt care about students. Will not let you redo anything under any circumstance!!!
Made an account just to grade this "professor". Just don't take this class. Antoinette will let you down and won't help you at all. Doesn't care if someone in your group project messes up and YOU pay the price for it by getting incomplete grades. Even if you do their assignments exactly as they wanted and demonstrated you still lose points somehow
This class didn't use a book so you really need to take notes on what she says. You cannot miss class. Her teaching was clear.
Awful professor and just an awful person all around. She's rude to the students, does not answer questions. She will give you attitude if you ask her anything about the hw. She grades in a curve so you will do well but for research papers, she will deduct points for the stupidest things. I just don't think she should be a professor.
"Professor" Criss is probably the single most uncaring instructor i've ever had. I paid money just for her to tell us what chapters of the textbook to read, have us watch pre recorded 5-10 minute lectures that she didn't make, and assign homeworks that on multiple occasions asked for information not found in the book. Avoid her if possible.
Offers no extra credit. Be prepared to learn this entire course on your own.
Dr. Criss is the worst experience I've ever had in any course. Exams have nothing to do with the book and she won't give lectures. She is also very rude and is not interested in teaching, she tries hard to fail her students.
Very good teacher. I switched my major to economics after taking this class.
