This class will definitely test your patience. With confusing explanations as well as smart-Alek responses for genuine questions, this class is extremely frustrating. There is an excessive amount of homework and three midterms. If not done, you will be left in the dark. It's difficult to respect a teacher who can't do the same for their students.
He expects you to learn Calculus from the book and through tutoring. He will only teach the theory and give very little examples. His test are extremely difficult. Said during the first 2 weeks that the majority of students will only for a 50% on the first test. He talks down to students when they ask for an explanations during lecture.
I could write a book on this class & how much a negative experience this was. For starters, first class I EVER had to drop or even came close to failing. When emailing him, expect a short answer that is very degrading & answers none of your questions. You will have three midterms & one final, it is very fast paced, confusing, & you get no help.
If you can learn Calculus 2 on your own then you will be ok. Doesn't finish the problems completely. Assigns way too much homework. If this is your only class for the semester then you will be ok. If not, take someone else. I dont recommend for Calculus 2.
I Wouldn't recommend taking this class at all! He's very rude & doesn't offer much extra credit. His lectures & homework were very difficult as well as the final! As my first year of college I had the worst experience with this professor.
To those who rated low, it's either you never watched the lectures or never asked him for help and resulted in a bad grade. He really is helpful to us. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TEACHING AND EXPLAINS THEM REALLY WELL, I GUARANTEE YOU WELL-PREPPED LECTURES. Yes, exams were hard but that depends on how we prepare for it. It's our job as students to study.
Professor Butenko is by far the BEST mathematics professor I have ever had. He cares so much about his students. If you don't submit an assignment, he emails you right away to make sure everything is alright and gives you a chance to submit the assignment late. He is very clear and concise in his lectures and very organized with the format.
Heavy homework load for summer. He does make himself available to help you when needed. Attitude is subject to change from friendly to rude. My biggest issue was the amount of time he gives you to finish a quiz/test. It's insanity racing against the clock to answer the types of problems he gives you on a quiz/test in such a small amount of time.
I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN. HE HAS THE BEST EXAMPLES FOR THE COURSE!
Requires subscription to Knewton's Alta for completion of homework, and includes a textbook-like section outline - comparable to ALEKS. Homework and participation heavy in weekly discussion board. Very accessible outside of class. Exams are extremely passable given that you understand all homework assigned through the website.
Do not be alarmed by the level of difficulty for this course. Everything worth having in life must be worked hard for. Professor Butenko is awesome, he really cares about his students learning and will explain concepts so they are easier for you to understand. Ask questions and participate in class. You will not regret taking his course!
Excellent all around and no textbook is required. The work itself is on Knewton which is 115$. The only thing that was bad is that he is missing powerpoints for the sections past the 1/2 way point which makes the latter sections worse. Overall he cares about your success and is easy to reach. It is a hard subject though so you still need to study.
Great professor, always willing to help you if you ask for it. Also makes sure there is plenty of review material for exams.
This is a good professor, he grades fairly and is always available to help someone out. There is a lot of work and you must spend a few hours a week to keep up but math is not an easy subject, I enjoyed this Professor.
Professor is great and really makes you get your grade but is also available for any questions and helps you on Your educational journey would take him again!!!
Professor Butenko is one of the best professors ever!
The Professor makes sure you get what you need to understand and pass the class. The best advice I can give is to show up to all offered office hours and to connect with the Professor about any questions or concerns with the class. He likes to get to know his students and is giving of his time to help them succeed.
This was definitely a challenging course that takes time to master. I spent alot of time doing homework. The teacher is super awesome, understanding, easy to get ahold of and quick to help whenever needed. Be ready to be challenged, if you stay organized write down the procedures and steps you will be fine!
If you want to learn the material and learn it well, take his class: recorded lectures and non-mandatory meetings; offers extra credit after exams, half the point/s for every problem you fix. He definitely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Professor Butenko loves math. LOVES IT. If you have questions, ask!
This was my stats professor for my first year in college and I highly recommend taking Prof. Butenko's class. He always made sure you understood everything, he also lets you retake quizzes and gives you practice midterms to study on your own time before midterms. His lectures were easy and his zooms were fun and helped me a lot.
Professor Butenko is understanding and is there to help. The workload is pretty heavy, this class took most of my time. If you put in the work, it is not too hard, just time consuming. There are weekly discussions, homework, and quizzes. Most importantly, the professor wants to help. The textbook is free online, but HW access is a one-time payment.
Professor Butenko is very good at what he does, teaching. He has the ability to convey the information that you need in multiple mediums. This is a difficult class for people who don't have a math background, but if you stay in touch with this instructor and do your homework, you can do it. He makes himself available. Excellent class.
I would like to recommend Professor Butenko for anyone who needs an excellent instructor who cares about the subject that he teaches and for his students academical success. The professor was accommodating, easy to reach and fast to respond. If I had to take any other math course, I would take the class with Professor Butenko without hesitation.
This professor provided the notes that were extremely helpful for each lecture! Definitely make sure to use those and you will be just fine!
This class is very difficult and time consuming. Professor wants to see his students succeed. An A is possible, but you'll have to put in a lot more effort to get an A in this class than you typically would in other Calc/STEM classes. Each week's assignments take tons of time to complete, we're talking all day on Sunday (if you procrastinate).
You just need to make the effort to learn the material. the Professor also gives you passes to use if you aren't able to make the deadline and deducts 10% each time. It helped me out so much because I was working overtime and the course load almost became too much. Again, he really does try to help you make it work.
Prof. Butenko's teaching style is very simple and easy to pick up on and once you do you'll be set. His quizzes are nearly identical to the midterms and what you see is what you get! He puts everything essential on the calendar so you don't have to go searching and gives the clearest and most useful examples for projects and homework. 10/10
Very clear material. Videos were made for every Lesson. Always ready to answer questions and demonstrate other methods of solving certain problems. Excellent teacher!
One of the easiest, most understanding math classes I have taken in a while. Several small assignments but really will only take you maybe an hour-two hours if you are really paying attention to the lectures. The layout of this course was very understandable and easy. Just make sure you don't fall behind because it can be difficult to catch up.
Professor Butenko really cares that you learn. He messages you when necessary and provides many resources that can help throughout each module. Pay attention to lectures and take notes!
This professor actually cares about how you are doing in his class. Assignments are heavy but he is very clear on what he wants. He is also available to set up a one on one to help you on the topics you are having a hard time with. His lectures are VERY detailed. So it's easy to go back to the lecture to find the answer to your questions.
Super straightforward class! HW was 40% on Knewton & could be re-done, exams on Knewton w/ review. Very forgiving late penalty. Professor Butenko was very accessible with text, email, office hours, etc. He drops low scores & offers partial credit if you talk to him. He's very understanding but can be disorganized, so communicating w/ him is a MUST!
Did not feel comfortable in this class both academically and physically. The homework was ridiculous and I was told we should expect to spend hours daily to stay on top of it. If you have the chance and aren't a math major I'd take someone else for Calc.
I enjoyed his class! very helpful and gave you a good amount of time to do all the work you need to do.
Mr. B, was the absolute best! If you get the chance please join his class. Math is my weakest subject and he made it easy to reach out for help and always reached out when he noticed a struggle.
Professor is nice and has a clear overview of how the class is going to work throughout the semester. The modules are straightforward and not hard to understand. He is very helpful and available to contact for help via online and in person.
Very nice Professor that is super helpful and easy to talk to. Just keep up with the homework and you will be fine.
He enjoys math / wants students to succeed. Very clear lectures. Weekly HW/Quiz/Disc. HW: 40% of grade, on Knewton; doable, very time-consuming. Can redo HW/Quiz for 100%. Late work: 90% credit. Exams: just like HW / review on Knewton / gives partial credit. Drops low scores. May do interviews. Flexible availability. Your success = *Time* x Effort
Great instructor with a great class structure. Wish I could take all my math classes with this guy.
Professor Butenko was amazing and helped me so much when I started to struggle. The class definitely takes work, at least 2 hours a week, if not more. There's about 4 big exams but each has a lot of practice attempts so it's do-able. I would take his class again for sure!
I had struggled in the past with every math class until finding this great professor, Anton Butenko. You will have to put in the time and effort but will learn a great deal about the world of statistics as well as sharpen your computation skills online. I recommend staying on task with all assignments.
The amount of homework is absurd. Do not take this professor.
Aside from the atrocious amount of work he gives you, this professor actually gives a damn about you passing the class. He gives a lot of examples to help you understand the work and is lenient on grading. You can meet with him after any major exam and he will sit down and go through all the problems you struggled on with you and give points back.
He is very chill, and his class is super easy to follow. Modules are layed out for the year, you know what to do next. Very responsive Professor, and cares about how you are doing. HW is Knewton, and there is quite a bit of it. May interview after exams, but usually it is to see if you get partial credit for a question. Would recommend 10/10.
Professor is an amazing Professor, works very well with your schedule, and explains very well, I will definitely retake him again very highly recommended.
Smooth course, organized. Lecture/homework take a while to finish, but it is manageable. Discussion/projects are easy with step-by-step videos provided by him. Quizzes every module, 3 midterms, and one final, although long they're as expected, and you can use your notes as well as calculators. Would recommend buying StatCrunch, it helps a lot.
Butenko does a great job of breaking up the lectures so it's not overwhelming. His courses are well thought out and very easy to follow. This class can still be challenging, but he provides enough support. 10/10
I would recommend this professor if you are someone who truly wants to learn more about math and is willing to put in the time and effort. This is a heavy load class with homework assignments almost every other day, four midterms and a final exam. The only complaint I had was the workload and the last midterm being only two days before the final.
If you take Mr. Butenko, I would recommend taking him online since his in-person course is exactly the same as his online one. That being said, he has a fun personality with lots of dry humor that you'll get to experience if taking him in person. He can over-explain at times, and the homework can get especially repetitive, but overall he's good.
Great professor for stats! Just take good notes, and use homework for review. Still gives fair credit for assignments that are turned in late.
He is really awesome and definitely will help you if you need him; his availability is great will answer any questions in a short time. Will make your experience and confidence grow by exploring all the perks to an online course.
Mr. Butenko, He believed in us and gave us the opportunity to redo and retake assignments
I took it online, so there was not a lot of interaction with the professor. It is extremely homework heavy, but having the homework done is necessary in doing well on the quizzes and midterms.
So there is lots of work in each module until like the last week of class as well as locked assignments until previous is complete, but I will say this professor is honestly the most helpful one I have had in all my years of college. Lots of communication, lots of homework/quiz and even midterm late passes. Very genuine in wanting you to pass.
very well organized. I took this course in the Summer and I would say I spent at least 1-4 hours a day (which is expected as it is compressed into 8 weeks). Butenko allows you to resubmit assignments to get your points back. Note: The course was stated to end on the 27th, but the final was available and due by the 30th.
Took the online class Introduction to Statistics, the course is laid out in a way that is easy to follow. If you make a plan to do the work it is easy to learn. He also makes it easy to reach out if you feel like you are not doing well. Overall I feel that this class was very enjoyable and easy to understand.
Accelerated form proved to be a challenge. Worth the time and effort though. Pay attention to all the resources he offers between the lecture videos, the notes (incredibly helpful), the written examples, e-text, vocabulary, etc. in the homework. $15 for StatCrunch, makes life easier. He knows his stuff and will go above and beyond to help you.
It plagued my conscience that I hadn't left a warning for incoming students. The greatest benefit of taking this class (for me) was the added emotional intimacy to my new relationship, as my boyfriend witnessed me lose sleep, sanity, and joy over the 270 assignments I had to complete in chronological order with a 10% late penalty in 6 weeks.
Rarely do you find an instructor as talented an Professor Butenko. I really enjoyed being in his in person calculus section. I hope he teaches calc 2.
Be prepared for a lot of weekly homework and tests. He has 3 mid term exams and 1 final exam. If your going to take this class, be sure to be consistent. Consistency is key to having a good grade in his class. Be sure to buy statcrunch which was his recommended website to help with the course, it was super helpful.
Professor Butenko is great. His online statistics course is set up very well. You really get a chance to learn the material before taking any of the assignments that effect your grade. The first 12 weeks of the course have a good amount of work to get through, but after that until the final it is light.
Professor Butenko's class was the one Calc II class I actually passed so that's gotta mean something. It's by no means a walk in the park, as there is a lot of homework in this class and a lot of learning. That being said, Professor Butenko is very accessible and always very helpful if you reach out to him with a problem. 10/10 would take again.
The most enjoyable online math class ive ever taken. The course is set up so if you know what youre doing on the homework, the same problem types are on the exams. (The homework gives you step by step help if needed) Buy statcrunch as the professor recommends and you will have no worries with this course
I honestly dislike math , especially in college. Professor Anton is by far the best instructor I have taken at MSJC . . You have to be on top of your assignments, quizzes and ask lots of questions if you don't understand .He answers all questions and helps succeed. There is no reason for anyone not to pass his class
Butenko inspired me to be a better math student, and a contender in college. He got me involved with the math league, the honors program, and provided bonus lectures about cool topics throughout the semester. It goes a long way when you can tell the instructor cares about the material and his students. He deserves the highest of commendations.
Best communication with an online professor I have ever had. If you put in the hard work and time, you reap a lot from Professor Butenko's class. Professor Butenko is attentive and responds back to questions in a prompt manner. Would recommend this course to anyone and everyone. There is a lot of homework and the mid-terms are challenging.
Butenko is an awesome professor. Go to his office hours/post test interviews. He'll help you go over the tests you've taken and will give great feedback. Also, make sure to stay on top of your homework.
At first i didnt like knewton because it felt impersonal but the professor hosts post exam interviews, offers great feedback, and knewton allows for you to take a high amount of practice questions that you will be specifically tested on and how they want you to do the problems is verry clear. I highly prefer this professor, i enjoy his lectures.
Butenko was very accessible and instructions were clear. However, three midterms, three pre-midterms, post exam interview and a final exam that worth a huge percent of your grade can make or break your grade. While late work is accepted, you have to keep up to make good progress in this class. If tests aren't your strength, look elsewhere.
Hands down the BEST professor I have ever had. You should get a good grade if you follow all of his instructions and use all of his resources. This was my best math experience; this class has given me so much confidence. I wish all professors were like Mr Butenko; he cares about you succeeding. THANK YOU, MR. BUTENKO!
This professor was very boring in his videos. His videos and notes are worded exactly the same so if you don't get one version, you'll most likely be lost on the other version. This was supposed to be an intro to stats class and unless you did actually take stats in HS, or are good at math naturally, wouldn't recommend.
Enjoyable class overall!
The course is outlined really well, I took an online 8 week course and it was really easy and fast. Looks like a lot of homework but it goes by way faster than you think. The professor is very active online and gives good feedback. Allows for plenty of breathing room while taking the course.
Be mindful if you decide to take his courses there are lots of assignments due everyday (including weekends), so keeping up on assignments are so important or you'll be drowning in them. Every test and midterm has practice ones, so it makes it easy to know what will be expected. He also provides video walk-throughs for projects.
Professor is grate with communication and understanding. This subject I believe is one of the toughest ones I've had. Normally I love math , but this one had me struggling. He was very helpful and quick with communication. If I had taken this with another professor I fully believed I would've completely failed! highly recommend.
His online course was one of the most organized I've ever taken. This class was a 6-week summer course so it was heavy on assignments. There were quizzes for each module (15 total), 3 Midterms, 1 cumulative final and multiple homework assignments. As long as you know how to do the homework problems, you'll be fine on the exams and quizzes.
I had to figure out the homework on my own, his lectures were not helpful. He has a big workload and his modules never work.
As long as you stay on top of things this class is great and easy I'm not a fan of the support class that come with it but its still worth taking the class.
Professor Butenko was the best math professor I have ever had. I don't recommend this course for those with a busy schedule. He leaves a lot of homework and a quiz after each module. I recommend taking notes on all the homework and quizzes since they come in handy for exams. His lectures are very useful, and the homeworks have great examples.
I really appreciated the structure of this course, you can come to this professor for any question. Extremely helpful!
He utilizes MyOpenMath for very well. Has prerecorded lectures in addition to the in-person lectures that not only made for good references but also helped connect the learning material to why it matters. Overall very good teacher, but you can not be slacking on homework and to take initiative and practice as much as possible.
He a funny guy
My name it's Ivan. Mr. Butenko was an amazing teacher. He was a chill guy and very good at teaching. I would recommend him for anyone to take because he truly was a great professor and I wish we had more teachers like him.
He is available for help outside of class. And gives good explanations during his office hours.
My professor was supper supportive and well lead. He provides the clear notes and step by step video lectures. When I send the email, he responds on time. If you want to take a Math-140, I highly recommend this professor.
Prof. Anton makes work easier by providing you with understandable examples before you take any homework or project work. He's always ready to help when you reach out to him concerning any issues you have about the course. But if you are the busy type, then you can't take his course because he gives a lot of homework. But overall he's the best
very spontaneous. the lectures were good but probably won't be enough to do the homework entirely without watching the extra videos. hw is never posted on time and we would take bets on how late he would be to class. still a very fun class since he is a funny guy and i'd definitely have him as a teacher again.
If you're an A student, he will nitpick all your work even if its right. I didn't like it, but if you get an A, you'll find out why. Homework & quizzes are assigned & due last minute. You will have to do problems in front of the class. He's a pain, but overall, likeable & kind of funny. Late work is allowed, but it's a good way to get behind.
I had a good experience taking this class. There was ample time to get assignments turned in to get the most credit possible.
Professor Butenko really cares about his students and is always reaching out to check on us if we miss an assignment. He's very understanding and does his best to work with you. As far as the class goes, he has very detailed videos for all assignments for each section. The videos are the best part because it really breaks down everything for you.
Professor Butenko is friendly and funny. I highly recommend him.
I was waiting to give him a review, but I would give this professor an 11/10. He's perhaps one of my favorite professors ever, and he is one of THE most helpful.
The professor was so great on letting students retake a quiz which is a big chunk of your grade. The professor is very nice and lenient on assignments and you can retake the homework assignments up to 100 times but other than that try to get 100 on your homework assignments. I personally loved how he was able to help out when ever I needed help.
Definitely one of my favorite classes I've taken so far! The work gets a little difficult towards the middle of the semester but it's not impossible, taking practice quizzes and exams repeatedly will 100% help in the long run.Very accommodating and responds back in a timely manner. As well as providing clear feedback on homework. Lots of resources!
This can be a difficult class if you are not a math whizz, like me.Professor Butenko is so detailed with step by step lectures and chapter notes along with vocab lists, so helpful to revert back when you need them to use for quizzes and exams. Tyler in the LRC was my tutor, so helpful. Prof. Butenko is well respected and is there to help if needed!
Mr. Butenko has one of the more organized courses I have ever seen and he has very clear expectations from the start of the semester to the very end. He was easy to access and willing help! The ONLY downside is some weeks the workloads can get kind of heavy, but in the end it was very much worth it! I loved this course and professor!
holy homework. the amount of homework for this class is so unnecessary. there's always something due everyday of the week. including weekends. lots of mini lecture videos + homework assignments that are due in a singular day. this cc course is more work than i do at my uc.
This professor designs the course in a very organized and helpful way. The concepts in each module build off of each other so that any one concept is not very difficult. Additionally, there are practice quizzes and midterms which really help you for when you take the real quizzes and midterms.
Very forgiving when it comes to late work and the course itself is straightforward in the way it is organized. Very important to stay on top of the work though, there's a lot of it throughout the week.
Professor Butenko is incredibly organized, and his course reflects it well. The course is workload heavy, but there is a lot to cover so it's necessary, and not the fault of the professor. If you stay on task and take lots of notes you'll do just fine. He takes a minute to respond, but is fairly understanding with an expectation for common sense.
He's funny and a genuinely great teacher. He does give a lot of assignments and homework, but they really help with the quizzes and midterms. His workload also really enables you to improve your time management. Definitely worth taking his class!
Super great professor I definitely recommend! Canvas was laid out really organized and the lectures were super helpful. You have to complete everything in order or canvas won't let you move onto the next assignment which I like because it allows me to take time to learn the material. He gives good feedback and is always there if you need help!
I took the statistics course as an online-anytime class and had a well rounded experience. As long as the work is put in this class is an easy A. The professor was understandable and straight to the point. I would definitely take the course again.
Very homework heavy, lots repetitive problems. This course is not easy. Professor requires uploading of scratch work. Midterms, quizzes and finals require scratch work. Extremely heavy with math problems.
I appreciate all the extra time you have given me professor! You were an awesome teacher, and I appreciate it. Not many professors are like this in college.
Love how this course was set up clear and easy to understand especially as someone who is not the best at math.
Make sure you stay on top of your work and complete everything by the due dates and you'll be just fine. The professor is passionate about math and is the most responsive professor I've had. He's very easy to reach and genuinely wants his students to succeed, you just have to put in the effort. He provides helpful feedback throughout the semester.
The class was very organized and you knew what you had to do each week, but I've never been assigned this much work. It was a crazy amount, I felt like I barely had any time for other classes. So just know it's a lottttt of work.
Is patient and understanding of how difficult the material can be for some more than others. He genuinely cares about his students passing by doing check-ins and offering support in areas you struggle the most with. A for Awesome!
