He is a nice guy, but he is very diorganized in the way he teaches. Never plans a lecture, grading scale is confusing and complex. He is a critical grader and only gave one person 100% on mandatory papers. He is condesending to students during class and I know he offended me and some other students with his personaly ideas on a few subjects.
Tolman is absolutely my favorite professor. Very hard, but I found every bit of work worth it. I personally liked his flexible class lectures, because this guy really does know his stuff, and has experience in practical application. The most useful class I've ever taken.
ya this guy sucks. I don't know how the hell he made it this far because he is one terrible professor and psychologist. his tests are pretty hard and he is really picky on grading reports. But worst of all, he is just a decieving punk. Save yourself some grief and stress and never take a class from this clown.
I really Like him. He is a difficul professor, but you will learn the material because of it. He knows the subject, he has TONS of practical experiance, and give great examples from that experiance. I think the students who don't like him probly aren't used to upper division courses...He really is a great professor.
Run, run as fast as you can to another professor that is teaching this class. He expected everyone to understand his disorganized ways, his test suck, you begain to feel he wants you to fail.
Dr. Tolman is extremely knowledgable in his field. To anyone who says that he is a hard teacher, I completely agree, however, you will learn more from him and his class than probably any other Abnormal Psych teacher. He expects a lot from his students, and he's a hard grader, but it made me work harder and ultimately learn more.
I really enjoyed this class. I liked how Anton set the class up. He has a few things that are mandatory and then we can choose to write papers, take tests or do presentations for the rest of our grade. He is totally willing to meet with your study group and give bonuses if you meet as a study group at least 3 times per test. He knows his stuff!
I do not recommend this professor. This is the second class I have had from him and he is just a bad teacher. He ignores students comments and will not budge if he writes bad test questions. His grading style is overly critical. He doesn't have lecture plans. He gets up and talks but usually not relevant to material in text.
Dr. Tolman is great. The person who said that he ignores students comments and doesn't budge on test questions, didn't listen in class. He cares about his students and their EDUCATION! He requires a lot but he is willing to help you.if you particpate he gives bonuses, which as college students, should happen anyway. i really learned.
Dr. Tolman genuinely cares about each student. He wants you to learn the material and progress as a student. He has a flexible learning approach that lets you pick the assignments you want to do. He is very knowledgable and really likes to help students. I would highly recommend him to anyone in psych field or not. Love the class.
Dr. T is the best teacher I have had a UVSC so far. He is a hard teacher-but isn't that whay we pay tuition- to learn?? I have learned more about the different psychological Theories and information I will actually use in practice. I highly reccomend him! However, if you want that easy A= go somewhere else! Thank you for everything Dr. T!!
First- this class sould be required for all beh.sci. students! I learned a lot of information that I would have had to figure out on my own after I graduated and started counseling! Second- Dr. Tolman is a great prof. to teach this class. He has a lot of personal expierience that helps enrich this course. if you want to learn- take it from him!!!
Tolman is a good professor. He knows his stuff and always jumps in to help when the group get stuck. He's a tough grader but he's pretty fair and really wants us to learn the theory that is so important.
Dr. T is amazing, he has so much knowledge to share and truly is invested in his student's education! He requires a lot but in return your education will double!!! I got a vast amount of knowledge when it comes to the different theories of psychotherapy!
This class has been so informative. Dr. T really emphasizes the importance of knowing the basics of interviewing and you will feel like you actually got something for all the ridiculous tuition you will pay. He does require hard work on your part but you can't go wrong with Dr. T.
If you want to learn and have a solid foundation to use in a future career or graduate school he is the one to choose. If you don't care and wish to slide by take someone else. You will have to work for your grade but, it will actually mean something. He will always be there as a resource to help you.
Dr. Tolman was very informative and good at his job. If you want an easy grade...stay away. You must learn the material on your own, but he is there to help with your learning. Most of what he teaches in lectures is practical life information for future mental health professionals, but he does summarize readings from the text. And go to every class
Dr, Tolman is a very good teacher and really helped show me where I could improve on my study habits. After taking this class the rest of my classes have been much easier and I understand things better. He really cares about the students, but makes you decide if you want to succeed or not.
I love Dr. Tolman! his class was challenging, but he was such a great teacher. His wants students to improve thier study techniques and is helpful while one struggles to do so. He is very smart and was a sucessful professional in his field before he started teaching. Take this guy! and learn to love blackboard.
Wow, I loved this class! Dr. Tolman is also an excellent teacher. I learned so much in just one semester, compliments of Dr. Tolman's class design, the well-written textbook, and study groups. Take this class!
Expects too much from students, seems like he thinks it's the only class student is taking.
he was very professional and he is very passionate about what he teaches which make the class soooo much better because all the students can easily relate to him. he's very helpful and great at teaching. i highly recommend him!
I highly recommend Dr. Tolman. He knows his stuff and is passionate about it. He always keeps the class involved and keeps it interesting. You learn to apply the principles learned in the course. I didn't get a perfect grade, but I learned so much I don't care. Great class
Dr. T. is easy going and knowledgeable. He is extremely understanding and wants his students to do well in his class. He really cares about people! He knows a lot about interviewing. I recommend him!
He knows what he is talking about. I learned a ton! Rigorous at the beginning but then eases up. Get him to talk about his personal experiances. Fascinating. You want to know the study questions.
Dr. Tolman is an amazing teacher! I have taken two classes from him now, and I have learned oodles! If you don't appreciate teachers that make you think at a higher level, than don't take him. He also has very high standards, but you really learn a lot and it helps in every other area. If you wanna learn a lot, take him.
You will learn a lot. He is not the easiest, but he will prepare you for your future.
This class turned out to be one of the best classes I have ever taken. Like most people have already mentioned, its a demanding class but you will learn a ton! Looking for an easy A.. stay away.Book is mandatory. Attendance is not, although I would suggest going as his lectures are really interesting.Highly suggested if you want to improve yourself.
NO. no no no. I wanted a class about abnormal psychology. not a class that is all about diagnosis. he is extremely frustrating. HARD. stay on your toes THE WHOLE TIME. doesn't go through the chapter before you take the quiz. you teach yourself.thats really what it is. he is just there to talk during class..
Take this class from someone else! Tolman is a very critical grader. He expects you to write as though you have a doctorate when you are still trying to get your bachelors. He seems to forget you are paying him to teach you the material and makes you learn it all on your own. His tests are also pretty hard too.
Anton is a great teacher. He teaches the way future therapists should interview. At times it comes across that his way is the only one, but if your serious about learning take him. Yes you can get an A.
ive taken classes from him before, and have found him to be very workable and reliable. he expects you to put effort into his classes, but effort brings leaning which breeds good grades. easy to talk to, assignments were meaningful-not time wasters. hes a good teacher.
Such a frustrating and confusing class. Yes, he has a wealth of information but it is so scattered between blackboard, facebook, google etc. Chose another class unless you have a lot of patience and do not have other very demanding classes.
If you want to rise above the pack and become truly effective I would highly suggest Dr. Tolman. He expects a lot but is amazing at what he does! Paper, tests, quizzes, interesting class discussion, teaches great learning methods and life skill
This class has been extremely difficult! Also, the whole first month of the class all we learned about was how to learn, not abnormal psych. I would not recommend him at all, he really does expect all your time devoted to this class and papers to be doctorate level!
Dr.Tolman is extremely knowledgeable about interviewing skills. I learned a lot from his class even though at times I didn't think so. It is a real hands on class, which I like. Even though he isn't what I would call an "easy" teacher, I have definitely had a lot worse and he does give an opportunity for extra credit. thanks Dr. T
He expects a lot from you, and gives you a lot of homework. But he is a great teacher, very knowledgeable and helpful. Not many teachers with a 1.8 "easiness" score get such a high average score. This is because he is a great teacher.
I really enjoyed this class, although it was confusing to get into. Anton was always there to help with any concerns I had. His class is definitely a lot of work, but you will learn so much from him if you want to. He expects you to learn yourself, and he will fill in the blanks during class discussion. This class was definitely worth taking! :)
Dr. Tolman is SUCH an amazing professor. He takes a little while to figure out and can be a bit disorganized, but he expects a lot and you end up learning TONS. He really REALLY wants you to master the material and is interested in improving student learning. Dr. Tolman is HIGHLY recommended for students interested in learning and improving.
Bottom line take any class possible from him. You'll be excited and more prepared for grad school and learn priceless info
He is a professor who made this class REALLY REALLY work. I could not imagine a professor teaching this class in a different format. We practiced interviewing with strangers we found. I learned a lot. I noticed he takes time with students with questions.
I loved this class. He made it come alive. We covered Supreme Court Rulings and my desire to be a Forensic Psychologist blossomed. I have never found good definitions to differentiate between SOCIOPATHS and PSYCHOPATHS. He gave us the info in detail and showed us how to tell the difference.
A great Abnormal class. I am not a good test taker, we had more options to fulfill class assignments/tests. He knows his stuff. I will take more from him.
Although I haven't finished this course yet, I want to share something I'm experiencing right now that pretty much sums up the semester so far. There is a quiz that HAS to be taken tomorrow (6/3) by 10:00 am. The quiz is still not posted and its 7:00 pm (6/2). I work tomorrow morning at 7:00 am He will not work with you for anything.
This is probably the best yet hardest class I've had at UVU. I had no idea what Dr. T. was like but am glad that the school has him. We need more teachers here like him. Like I said, the class was very involved and a TON of work but I learned so much!!!!! Take any class you can from him!
He undoubtedly knows about Abnormal Psychology. However, his workshops are often unclear. I would recommend him, but the student Needs to make sure he/she knows what is being asked of them.
Dr. T suffers from narcissistic Personality Disorder. he will be sure to make you feel stupid and he is "never wrong" ( that is according to himself). it is very apparent that your best effort is never enough and his grading skills vary on certain days. you will teach yourself and learned helplessness and anxiety are normal feeling in class.
Because this class was squeezed into ~7 weeks during summer, we had a LOT of work to do. Dr. Tolman kept us on track with strict deadlines, to which I did adhere. Based on this, and my good grades (88%), I deserve an A. Compared to others in the class, I believe I do as well as the top A students (if there are any). He's very hard. Don?t take him
Abnormal psychology is an awesome subject. But everything I learned from this class,I taught myself. Its unfortunate that I paid around 500 dollars in tuition for this class but I could have rented this book from the library and learned just as much. He doesn't take time to explain concepts or facilitate class discussions. You teach yourself
Hardest class I have ever taken, but learned the most! Received constructive feedback on my work, which I have found to be rare among professors. He provided information to improve in every area of study not just psychology. If you want to learn, take a class from Dr.T.
Hardest best teacher I have had. I learned so much from this class. We were required to work in groups, be accountable, and learned how to actually apply the concepts. Would highly recommend if you want to really learn. He knows his stuff, has high expectations, & really helps students. Amazing feedback on papers and assignments which I loved!
DO NOT take him, all these students talk about how hard he is, it's impossible to get an A on a quiz. Does not explain things well. Nice guy but has his own opinions about psychology, NOT good.Take Jason King instead, or anyone really for abnormal psychology.
He is a great teacher. If you understand his objectives, you will understand why he is does everything he does for the class. You MUST read, apply and learn how to study to succeed. I recommend him to all my friends who need to take this class
If you paid for your education with the hope of actually learning something instead of just getting a grade then take Anton Tolman. Dr. Tolman is the best teacher I've ever had. Period. His class is hard, yes, but he's very willing to work with you and he puts in hours and hours every week just to help people understand the material better.
Dr. Tolman has changed the way I think about learning. I went into his class wanting a Powerpoint and a lecture, I came out knowing that that is no way to learn. Yes, you may have to teach yourself some things in his class, but you learn HOW to do it from Dr. Tolman. If you're lazy I wouldn't recommend his class, but if you like to learn... enjoy.
Dr. Tolman is amazing. You can tell he loves what he does and he really wants to help you learn and succeed. I was nervous about the workload but everything fell into place and I was able to take SO MUCH from his class. He is an excellent professor.
Dr. T is tough, but really good. He knows his material and is quite opinionated about it. His opinion may not be your opinion, but he will allow you to make your point if it's valid. Overall he is a very good teacher and an asset to the University.
He was a good teacher, but very opinionated. Make sure to formulate your own opinions and not to be too influenced by his thoughts. Dr. Tolman expects a lot from you but it's really not to bad if you plan it out right. Good luck!
Dr. Tolman is one of the best teachers I have had at UVSC. I would highly recommend taking his classes. He is very knowledgeable in his field and really wants you to learn. I have learned so much from his classes. He is willing to help students succeed. If you take his class join a study group, it really helps! Just a great teacher!
If you want to learn, and be challenged, then take this class. Otherwise stop going to school and wasting everyone's time and money. Dr. T will help you succeed and is very dedicated and passionate about what he does.
Ok teacher, he expects way to much from students, and his tests are the hardest I have ever taken. You can study all you want, go to class every day, read the chapter and you might pass.. He is a genius, and expects you to think the same with out being taught or having the same experiences he has had so it was a great challenge.
Dr. Tolman is a great man who wants his students to succeed. The class is challenging but also rewarding. I heard a complaint throughout the semester that it's hard to understand what Dr. Tolman is saying due to his Welsh accent. And yes, it's true, but the words and sentences you do comprehend, my god, they will change your life forever.
Alright, reading the comments below about Dr. T from my fellow classmates I would like to point out some things. Yes, Dr. T expects a lot out of students, but i will say he is the MOST helpful teacher i have EVER had in my life. He was amazing with that, and yes it's hard, but i've learned so much and i feel very very accomplished. He's a great guy
I enjoyed this class very much. Did not know much of subject going in, but leared a lot. I have never had a professor provide so much helpful feedback, it realy helped with the learning. I think Dr Tolman is the best professor to take the interviewing class from.
I've never had a class with Dr. Tolman until senior year, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was skeptical at first because I've heard that he was a difficult teacher and that he had so much work to do. But there were no exams at all.Everything was interactive, which helped me a ton.I learned a great deal, overall I highly recommend this teacher.
The subject was fascinating. He never really taught though. There were just group activities, quizes and tests. I learned from reading in my textbook. Exams were not easy.
Dr Tolman was very good at pointing out things we as individuals are not aware of in our society. His class really opened my eyes. He assigns relevant assignments where you apply the concepts to learn them fully. Really enjoyed learning from him.
Dr. Tolman is one of the best teachers at UVU. If you think his classes are too hard then you are going to school for the wrong reason! He only expects you to learn the material. Is that too much for a teacher to ask? if you want to learn take his classes. If you want to take easy classes and use your degree for the management track at BK then dont
Dr. T is the epitome of what a professor should be. He is passionate about the subjects he teaches and invested in the student's learning. I highly recommend him to those interested in higher learning. If you're looking for an easy "A" this is not the teacher for you, but if you want a teacher who will prepare you for your career, he is the one!
interviewing skills with prof. Tolman was awsome. He was funny and he listens. the tests are role plays, and you get a lot of practice with interviewing.
Dr T gives us real situations to learn the skills he teaches in class! He is an amazing teacher, completely dedicated to helping his students learn, and apply what we learn in his class! Yes! it is hard but so is life! If you want to learn what you will need to prepare for in your career take his classes!
Dr. Tolman was awesome! The way he teaches really helps you to learn what you need to know. He gives you all of the tools to succeed in the class and if you get anything less than an A it was probably your own fault. The class was somewhat difficult, but he gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed if you put in the work.
Dr.T was a good instructor. He cares about what he teaches. You need to know/read the material to do well and participate. Although some of the material is difficult to understand, he gives many opportunities to improve your grade by participating in other class projects. He was very interesting. I liked him a lot.
The class is set up so that you cover in depth the material. The opportunities to use the information in a workshop every chapter is definitely my favorite part of the class. Keep up on assignments, participate and do your part in the learning process and your will have a great experience, having really learned the material.
It was good. You defiantly have to read the book. You never know what your grade is though. Lots of assignments to better your learning. Some necessary and some not. I would take again. Neutral feelings.
Dr. Tolman really cares about his students! His class is structured to help you learn and master the material. Lots of group work and application of concepts. I have learned a ton! This class is AWESOME! I highly recommend!
I really liked this class. It was challenging and I learned a lot. Dr. Tolman focuses on helping students to develop deep approaches to learning. Dr. T. shares power by allowing students a say in policies, course content, and grading. There is a heavy emphasis on group work. If you are a passionate learner, you will love this class.
Take Interviewing from Dr. Tolman! I don't know of another professor that can teach this material even close to him. He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives great feedback and knows how to teach effectively. The class is NOT too difficult. You'll learn a lot though. Be thorough, think through the assignments and you'll do great.
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. Dr. Tolman is very unique in that he will take the time to write you a novel-worth of feedback on almost every single assignment. Each assignment has a purpose, and there is no real busy work in the class. If you are serious about going into counseling, you NEED to take this class from him.
Dr. Tolman is a great teacher who really wants to help his students succeed in all they do.
Curriculum organized and presented very well. Learned a lot and lecture were really interesting. Never bored in his class. Learned a lot, but also had a lot of homework. The articles required to read take up too much time however.
Worst class ever. He does not teach. He expects you to know the information already and has two quizzes you have to take every section you read--personal and team quiz. He requires you to apply Bloom's to everything. You are assigned a group and have to do workshops that do not help with the test at all. Expect to read a lot and take extra quizzes.
Very good professor. Lectures are inspirational and well taught and combined with the textbook it made everything clear. There is a lot of homework and work to accomplish in this class so get ready for extensive learning. The extra articles that Dr. Tolman asks you to read take up too much time.
i absolutely love this guy, he would let you explore your topic for your research and give you the whole semester to get your lit review and proposal ready. just make sure you show up. also their arent any quiz just some questionnaire on canvas based on what you learn from the chapter and how you would apply it in your research. AWESOME GUY!!
Don't buy the textbook. Never used it. Assignments were easy to do. Tests were pretty easy online. HOWEVER, if I cited something incorrectly, he docks quite a few points. It felt like I was in an ENG class a lot of the times because I had to be perfect in my grammer. Just do the assignments and you'll pass
You won't need to buy a textbook, the way he grades his discussions are weird, if you come close to doing one thing wrong you will miss the point. His assignments are easy, he doesn't allow you to move ahead in the course, you have to take it week by week. Test are kind of easy... they are timed and you are definitely crunched on time.
Dr Tolman was by far the best teacher I had this semester. He was very personable and emailed back quickly.
It was a fun class and i learned a lot but it was hard
Took this online class, and would do it again in a heartbeat! You can find lots of the material for assignments online. Highly recommend getting the kindle version of the textbook so you can search for specific topics. Professor Tolman always responded quickly and made an online class easy to understand what was going on.
Be prepared to work! The most time consuming class I've taken. Group workshops all semester are agony. Group discussions. Quizzes have no clear-cut answer, you have to choose the best answer out of a bunch of correct answers, it's harder than it sounds. He knows his material. Very organized and responsive. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
Say goodbye to your social life this semester! There are multiple assignments due every single week on different days so you definitely need to plan out your study schedule. Makes you do lengthy group workshops. Group discussions, papers and blogs. 3 exams including the final. LOTS of work but the subject is amazing. Responds quickly to questions.
Dr. Tolman is fantastic! Easily the best professor I have ever had at UVU. Expect group projects and team evaluations, to read the text (ALL OF IT), to create a study plan and stick to it, a very organized structure, and detailed feedback given quickly. This class does require work to succeed. His goal is to help you succeed after college. Take it!
I took this class online and Coach T was great and laying out the class and giving feedback and he's very clear on whats expected. The textbook was online and free which I loved. As long as you complete your weekly assignments on time and read the textbook , the class is pretty easy and you should have no problem getting an A.
This class was taken online. It was just basic intro to psychology. All the work and textbook was online on a platform called Tophat. It was outlined in the beginning what was to be expected. Do the work, put some effort in it and you'll be fine.
I took Professor Tolman's online course. We use a program called TopHat and an online interactive text that comes out to being pretty inexpensive, which I appreciated. Professor Tolman is fantastic, and his class really helped solidify psychology concepts for me. He responds quickly to Canvas messages and grades fairly. Highly recommended.
Easy class and tough but fair grading. He's really nice though, I was pretty much the only student who missed an assignment because I couldn't find it and he helped me get it in and gave me partial credit. He's very responsive and I liked that he adds his insight to our text, he was very involved, that's hard to find in online classes.
Worst professor I've ever had, and most ridiculous class. He's gotta think he's really special to be giving a 1010 class this much work. It's more than my other 5 classes combined. You have to read like a crazy person, he doesn't prepare you at all for the tests, and his TA grades more harsh than anyone (and incorrectly, I might add). Stay FAR AWAY
His expectations for an undergraduate class were unrealistic. For those of us working full time jobs, this class was nearly impossible due to excessive group work and tough reading quizzes. Oh, and he doesn't let you see your scores on the quizzes you take. He focuses way too much on "learning strategies" and not enough on the actual class material
All of the negative comments about Tolman's class are accurate, unfortunately. I read the comments and still chose to take his class, I wish I wouldn't have. He is too focused on group work, learning styles, and certain learning techniques (which were all common sense to me). I am an A student and I had a hard time on his quizzes, papers, and class
Dr. Tolman is a good guy and really wants you to learn the material, almost to a fault. There is a ridiculous amount of material, and it isn't just busy work. The quizzes and tests are very hard so know the chapters very well. He uses a lot of application questions and almost never asks easy questions. Get ready to spend a TON of time on this class
I've taken from Coach T for 1010 and Abnormal Psych. He is intelligent and a great teacher. He is also very responsive to questions and requests for clarification/understanding. I've learned a lot in both courses. The one area where he is incredibly difficult is how he grades papers. Lots of feedback, but a very nitpicky and tough paper grader.
This was a good class but has A LOT of work. 2 quizzes every week and has too much group work. He is a very harsh grader and it seems almost impossible to get full points on assignments and blogs you post. He does give good feedback on everything but I just didn't like his teaching style.
Professor Tolman is nice and quickly responds to emails. This is for sure a class that you have to work hard in to get an A! There are two quizzes a week and a decent amount of group work which was frustrating for a online class. I found his tests to be hard because of the way questions were worded. I don't feel like I walked away learning much.
Dr. Tolman is an awesome teacher and it's clear that he really cares about helping his students succeed - he provides so many resources to help you in every way possible! That being said, I wish I hadn't taken this class online. It was SO MUCH READING. It's all on you to read TONS of material every week to learn everything by yourself.
Awesome teacher who really seems to care about the material and the students in general. Assignments were well thought out and purposeful rather than seeming like busy work. Definitely recommend!
I took him online and it kept me so busy. Discussion post, quiz and reading assignments each week. I did a paper about every other week. The class is an easy A if you put in the work and get it done.
Be prepared to do a lot of work for this online class. The work load wasn't hard, and there was a purpose behind all of the assignments. I think that the time I spent doing this work was worth it and really helped me understand the material. Coach T is willing to work with students and is very understanding. I would absolutely take the class again!
With all his good intentions, this class felt like a huge waste of time. The quizzes and test were filled with confusing questions, I'm a 3.8 student. The professor has mercy, but I felt that I wasted a lot of time just figuring out his riddles, and lost much motivation for study. The groups are good if it weren't for his somewhat arrogant quizzes.
I took online class for my PSY1010, I have to say while its not the easiest class ever, it is good learning experience. I enjoyed the material presented. Professor Tolman also replies to emails, answers to questions and provides a detailed feedback to help you throughout the class. Something that I find is paramount for success in online class.
Coach T is one of my favorite professors I've had over the last 3 years. He spent a good amount of time writing comments on the papers I submitted which really helped me understand where to improve. He's a thoughtful professor and loves what he does. The course is hard (mainly due to participation because it's an online course) but worth it.
Coach T is amazing! The textbook he has you read for the course is easy to read and understand. It made the material interesting and fun. Coach T knows so much about psychology and responds quickly to questions. So willing to help and answer any questions. He is engaging even though I took the class online. I didn't think it was a big work load.
This Class was my favorite, Professor Tolman is an amazing person, He's really nice and helpful, he also is flexible if you explain the situation, lot of homework but nothing really hard, I love this class if I had to take it again I would pick this class again!
I literally cannot remember the work I did in my other 4, in-person classes this semester because this 1 online class was so much work. 4 group projects, 1 paper, 4 tests, weekly VIDEO discussions (yes you have to video yourself and do two replies to peers), weekly quizzes, & lots of reading. Professor can't even keep up with all the work himself.
Coach T was very helpful at times, but most of the semester assignments went ungraded and the coursework was extremely heavy, especially for an online class. I had other classes and ended up doing poorly in all of them because I was trying so hard to keep up with this one. Assignments: weekly quizzes/discussions, & mandatory group work biweekly.
This is what an upper level psych class is supposed to be like! Thank you for making it challenging and not just an easy "A". I appreciated the assignments & supplemental readings each week. It really helped me connect the content. Coach T provided great feedback and really wanted his students to be successful.
This class was very very frustrating to me. There is an individual quiz and a group quiz every week and they are super tricky. It takes me a good half hour to take the quiz every time because there is usually one answer that is better than the others because of one small line in the text. Very frustrating. And a very harsh grader.
I had to work harder in this class than all my others still did worse. My stress thru the roof, profs were helpful due to the coronavirus, but not him! One of the most ambiguous profs, but expects extreme clarifications + nitpicks. Exams are insane hard. Peer feedback/group projects. 3 papers. 3 proctored exams. Forget about leaving with confidence!
This class is a nightmare, i spent all my time trying to figure out the five different platforms used to access assignments, i want to learn not spend all my time on jumping through all these hoops .
His Upper Psychology class was the worse I have ever taken and I am about to graduate. There is very much unnecessary work mutely based off his opinions and take off things instead of being fact based. Group work was okay but again had very unnecessary things within. Quizzes and Test are extremely challenging as well.
Do NOT take Forensic Psych with this professor. It was one of the most ridiculous classes I took in regards to busy work and there were extra assignments that were difficult to keep track of. Tests and quizes had lots of questions that were based on opinion. The student teacher was a helpful and the class was interesting, but NOT worth struggle.
I disagree w/the poor ratings. I found the material really interesting and he runs the class in a way that makes you learn. You will do group projects. You have to read all the material or you won't do well. Participate in the weekly discussions, do the readings, learn the material and you'll be fine. He's also pretty nice and reasonable.
Dr. Tolman is very genuine and kind. Topics were connected to real-world situations, using better reading, studying, and succeeding strategies. Material was interesting, professor showed that he understood deeply about the subject by sharing professional stories, which were insightful. Conversations around stigma were thoughtful and valuable.
Anton Tolman is very knowledgable on the subject. The best part of class was listening to his previous stories and experiences. He is very caring and wants all of his students to succeed, there is plenty of opportunity to do well. As a student it is important to plan time for the required reading. One of my favorite psychology classes so far.
Coach T is one of the rare professors that you can tell truly cares about his students and their success. If you listen to feedback and learn the material, you will get a good grade. Definitely recommend a class from Prof. Tolman.
Great Professor. He has lots of experience and really is ready to help his students succeed.
Really cares about his students
Coach T was a great teacher who has a deep passion for Psychology, and often shares real world experiences for the lessons, either his own personal experiences or from major studies, and makes sure that the class is as involved as possible to keep everyone engaged and learning at their individual paces.
I have never had a Professor that cared so much about students learning! He is an amazing teacher that cares about learning and conversations about mental health. He shares his vast experiences with us as a class and it helped me to learn better and be able to apply my learning. I grew in my appreciation for group work and conversation.
I really enjoyed this class, it left a great impact on me! I liked the interesting stories he shared. I liked how he would play music while waiting for everyone, and how he doesn't pressure people to answer things. I love that he has his pronouns in canvas. I enjoyed writing the paper and being able to reflect on my behaviors and experiences.
Dr T is fantastic. He gives great feedback and is very passionate about teaching. I really enjoyed his class. To do well you have to read a LOT, but it's all very interesting. As long as you stay in the habit of reading and taking the study quizzes you'll do really well!
Dr. Tolman is amazing and has a versed knowledge of Psychology. He cares about his students' success in the course and as individuals. I would highly recommend taking a class from him.
This is the hardest class I've taken, and I'm graduating after this semester. Don't take forensic psychology from Dr. Tolman. There is excessive busy work, the quizzes are difficult to understand and subject to interpretation, and you are forced to grade your classmates in groups. The quiz and test averages were very low. Dr. T is difficult.
Forensic psychology with Prof. Tolman is a challenge, but engaging if you're willing to put in the work. Pair unstuckstudy with the readings for best results.
