I SUCK at algebra and he made it so much easier. I took him in winter so the class pace was fast, but still made it easy to follow. He is an awesome teacher. Very relaxed, always willing to help you, and funny. GREAT teacher

Funny and easy to talk to. Attendance is not mandatory he will give work you missed but it is better to attend so you can get the lesson. Tests and quizzes are graded liberally.

Very organized and articulate teacher. Fantastic lectures, very easy to understand. Only use the book for homework, which needs to be kept up on as he lets you use it for quizzes and it really prepares you for tests. Make sure to take good notes, they will really come in handy later in the course.

Honestly you will be hard pressed to find a better math teacher than this guy. He explains the material well, he keeps the class lighthearted and he completely understands that some people abhor math. He will bring it to your level and make sure you get a good grade. He's the best math professor I've ever had in my college career.

This professor is very good. His lectures are crystal, he always asks at the end of any explanation if anyone has questions. His tests do not drill you on long ambiguous problems. They do however test your knowledge. After being in his class thus far, I feel I really understand mathematics in a way I never did. I hope to take him for Calculus.

Mr. Curtis spends a lot of time going over homework questions. You don't turn in homework (makes it easy for him!)but you do use it to take open note quizes. Tests are super hard multiple choice. Biggest complaint is that you never know what you missed on tests. He should spend less time reviewing homework and explain what we missed on tests.

very nice tries to keep mood light but a lazy grader out of 2 whole chap of hw he only chooses 3 random ?s to grade so even if there was only 1 ? u had trouble with if its 1 of the 3 u get 66% also exams are mult choice so scantron grades it all or nothing no part. credit & no notes on what u did wrong good news hes willing 2 work w/u on ur grade

Took him for Statistics. Sure, he tries to hard to get laughs, but he's a pretty good professor. I did feel that some concepts weren't explained thoroughly enough, but seeing as that I'm not a math major, this wasn't a huge issue. The class was easy and I don't regret taking it.

I took Mr. Curtis for Math 52 in the winter and 35 in the Spring. I would have taken him for Math 53 & 36 as well if he were teaching them. He is awesome. He's funny, helpful, informative and knowledgeable. Do the homework, he lets you use it on the quizzes. Take good notes and you can get an A. I did, in both 52 & 35.

I like his teaching style. He knows his stuff. He explains things well. I find him helpful, you just have to ask. He is one of those professors that made me enjoy and like Math even more. Funny guy too.

Best Math Professor! Math is not my strong suit. I took his class over summer for 35 and loved his teaching style so much that I'm taking him for Mat 12. He is really tries to make sure everyone knows how to do the problem before he moves on. Great teacher!!

Mr. Curtis is really a remarkable teacher. Extremely funny, sarcastic sense of humor. He definitely gets the information across to the students. Only down side is that his tests are extremely hard, but he does drop the lowest grade. Also DO THE HOMEWORK, it helps with quiz's and tests. If he would just make his tests easier he would get all 5's.

I took Curtis for statistics. He is very fast pace and is funny with a sarcastic sense of humor. He is very patient and helps you to get a deep understanding of the subject.Do the homework. Test are a little tricky.I highly recommend this teacher for statistics.

I took Mat-12 with Professor Curtis this Summer, and he is so amazing. He made the context become easier to understand, and if you have any question, just ask him after class and he will spend time explaining to you. Online homework is sometimes irritating, but it helps you prepare for the exam. And using Excell would help a lot doing the HW.

He appears rather indifferent but was overall a decent professor. He returned tests in a timely manner, always answered questions, and covered the material well. Homework is online however which does not allow you to get enough feedback to know if you're doing well or not and all tests were multiple choice save the final which was hard.

Stats was hard! I didnt know anything about it going into the class but curtis made it semi-easy to understand. I passed with a C. GO TO GROUP WORK! these extra points will save you in the end! So will the online homework!! the only reason why i passed the class was because i did the group work and all hmwk. i either failed or got a D on every test

Professor Curtis is an excellent statistics teacher. Show up to class on time, do the homework (which is all online), study and you will pass the class! He is very helpful during his office hours as well.

there's A LOT of word problems, if you're interested in improving that skill take this class. if not, this class would be a bad idea. overall, he's a great prof. just not into word problems

I took professor Curtis for math 35 last semester. Let me first say I am absolutely horrible at math. I got a B in his course. He's a really great professor, he sincerely wants his students to understand the material. His teaching style is really helpful for people who are not good with numbers and formulas. I would definitely recommend him.

I tried this course in the summer and had to drop because it was too fast. I enrolled the following fall and did WAY better than before. Professor Curtis is good at explaining the material clearly. Make sure you do your homework. If you do, you'll definitely succeed!

Doing the homework helps a lot and asking him questions about stuff you do not get is important because he goes through everything step by step. He is also understanding that math is not everybodys favorite class so he tries to make things easy. Do group work!!! The points add up and can bump you up a grade I got an A in the class

Prof. Curtis was definitely helpful and knows his stuff. He is one of the few teachers that really tries to make math understandable. HW-optional. 5 tests.If you expect a review for tests this is not the prof. for you. Prof. Curtis uses tons of Word Problems, by the time you are done with the course you will be a pro.Worth the challenge.

His class is really easy as homework isn't mandatory, but don't get points for homework so grades are based on test scores and class participation. If you arent self-disciplined enough to do the homework unless its assigned then find another teacher! There is alot of class material to cover so make sure you have enough time to put into this class.

Textbook used often if you choose to. Homework is not mandatory and classtime is lectures. Very fast-paced class. HIGHLY recommend homework and studying. He takes questions from homework for the tests. He allowed us to use the previous edition textbook as well and gave us separate homework for it because he understands that we spend a lot of money.

I took Curtis for twice and both times he was an awesome teacher, but your grade is based on you and your understanding of math. Very smart teacher, knows what he's teaching. If you put in the effort and show him you're trying he'll help you out even if you're not that good at math. HW isn't mandatory but if you want to pass his class DO THE HW!!

I struggled with this class, but it was not because of the professor. He is very clear and funny. The homework is not turned in for this class, but you should still do it as practice. He's a good guy and I think my in class participation is what saved me.

He is a great professor, he goes over the lecture making it seem very simple, uses a lot of different examples to help you study for his tests, the tests were easy as long as you did the hw which was never collected. Take him he you will learn for sure.

This professor is good if you are already good at math. He teaches well and does a lot of examples. Doesn't collect homework but do it if you want to pass tests. no study guides. no extra credit. The lecture is straight from the textbook. The final is 55% of your grade. Exams are 43% and class participation is 2%.Good Luck.

If you're not disciplined enough to do homework that he doesn't collect then this class probably isn't for you. You really have to stay on top of things because we covered atleast 4 sections a day and there is a good amount of hw. He is a great teacher and is really good at translating math language to "our language." He's pretty funny too.

He seems like an okay guy. Jumps right into the lesson when he opens the door. No multiple choice questions quizzes or final exam. 55% of your grade is the final,43% is quizzes, and 2% is participation. Does a review before each test, but you will need to study alot more than the questions he gives. He never misses a day, and be prepared to work.

A great and professional professor. Has a good sense of humor to keep class interesting.Is all about the business of teaching math and wants you to succeed. Pre-calc is not easy. But you can do it. He will work with you. Never dismisses class early! I loved that.

Great professor. He was not kidding when he said it will be the hardest class we had taken. You must practice and study a lot to get a good grade. That's what HW is for. Study groups in class are the reviews. If you are not willing to work at a fast pace do not take him in winter. Very limited in time to help students. I highly recommend him.

He's a good teacher & funny but test are ridiculously difficult (very tricky). He doesn't collect homework so your grade is based off the test. A lot of people didn't finish the final. This is the first class I ever failed. I got one on one tutoring on top of going to the math lab. I did learn a lot but was I feel like he made it too difficult.

This class was easier than some people have made it out to be. All you have to do...is...do your homework...and study for the tests! In fact, do the homework several times over until you've mastered every problem. The tests are a bit tricky, but they're extremely easy if you have the material down. STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY!

I found him too harsh. I also found it upsetting that he's the only math teacher I've had that doesn't drop your lowest test score. He'll drop it if you miss class, though. Meaning If I didn't show up for one of the tests, I might've gotten a C instead of a D. Not a bad guy, but I wouldn't recommend him at all unless you are a math major.

Amazing teacher. In lecture, he breaks it down to the bare bones of that you will be learning and helps you understand. He explains the subject very well and is more than willing to help. I have gone to his office hours for help, a couple hours later he would email me solutions to the problems I had trouble with. Doesn't collect hw. Highly recomend

A very clear professor. He explains things very well so even if Stats isn't easy for you, you'll do fine. He lets students use older versions of the textbook which saves money, and he doesn't require you to buy a online stats lab program. Do not miss any classes or you'll be confused. Homework isn't required. He provides formula sheets for exams.

The first time I took his class, I got a D; I retook his class, I studied from the previous tests and received a B. Honestly, if I had only studied and actually understood when to use each type of test of hypothesis, normal distributions, confidence intervals, linear regression, etc, I would have passed the first time. He grades hard though :(

Took Mr. Curtis for the first time in fall 2015 at the Riverside campus. I really learned a lot from the professor during lecture and also put in long hours at home. COPY ALL OF THE NOTES AND EXAMPLES.

Definitely not a professor everyone can take, he expects you to practice on your own and if you're incapable of outside study this is not the course for you. His humor is also not for everyone, some take his humor as insults while most know he is just being funny. If you can handle both the above he will be an amazing professor with fair tests.

Curtis knows what he's doing and it shows. People fail his class BC the homework isn't mandatory, but you definitely need to do it BC the theories need to be practiced out of class. You are only graded on 4 exams and a final with absolutely NO extra credit. He's a great professor and makes statistics interesting and challenging. Would take again.

I took Curtis over the summer, a six week class. I took statistics in high school so this was an easier subject for me. Curtis has a very, very dry sense of humor. So, he can appear uninterested and rude to some students, especially when answering questions. However, I really enjoyed his class and he made basic statistics very simple for me.

I took him for Math-12. It was a tough class to take in the semester. I do NOT recommend taking it for summer or winter. Taking notes and going over them is very key. Also, he really cares about being on time. The textbook is a must.

Statistics is difficult for a lot of people, but I promise you that if you're dedicated and focused, Curtis will make it as simple as he can. I'm a statistics major, but he made me love it even more. I never dreaded class and he's a very helpful dude. Homework is not turned in which is cool but can be a hinderance if you don't study much. 10/10.

Great professor. Knows his stuff. I think I underestimated this class and thought it wouldn't be as hard as others have said but I was so wrong. PLEASE do the homework. Though he doesn't collect it, that is how you'll get your practice! Toughest class I've ever taken, by far. He also is very closed off and not really involved with his students.

I took his class during winter session but I'm horrible at math so I dropped it because I couldn't keep up, however he is SUCH A GOOD PROFESSOR that I took him again during the spring course. I can pretty much guarantee that any bad review is from a student that didn't do their homework so they failed the tests. Stats is hard, he makes it easier.

Grade was based on a few tests and group worksheets done in class. Textbook was written by him, test looks like the homework. Homework not required or turned in, but do it. Gives you a formula sheet for every test and for the cumulative final. The final, he lets you write notes on formula sheet too.

The class is more than 90% test and final based. No homework is required, he is a good teacher but a really tough one. If your'e not good at maths or your'e used to receiving a lot of help, do not take this class.

He's smart, funny, and explains the material well, which makes his lectures pretty enjoyable. A good thing because he'll drop you if you skip class. The examples in class and the textbook are harder than the tests, so if you study well you'll do fine. BUT he only grades you on test scores and does not drop the lowest test, so you have to study!!

This was a tough class, you really have to work for it. He's a great professor and his lecture makes the problems understandable. There's no assigned homework but It's really really important that you do practice problems! There's a total of 5 tests including the final and the final is worth 50% of your grade. I was able to pass thanks to that.

Prof Curtis was amazing, I took him for stats in winter of 2019. He can be intimidating at first but he's very nice and actually wants to help. It's your responsibility to ask for help. Also the class was test heavy but don't procrastinate and you'll be fine. He makes you work for your grade but I definitely recommend him. I would take him again.

Absolutely great. He explains really well and repeats the ideas multiple times. Homework is not graded but if you do it, you can for sure do great on the exams. Always recommends tutors and sometimes even has an SI in the class. Even if he seems a little intimidating its just to get us to do the work, other than that hes hilarious.

he is very intelligent but more than half the class dropped because his grading is really tough, 60% of my grade was the final, about 2% was class participation, and the rest were just tests. If you don't practice the maths every day or at least a few times a week its going to be extremely difficult.

Class is extremely hard, but it's a college level class, so it is to be expected if math isn't your thing. Class is all test, so you better know your stuff. He has dry humor, which I found extremely funny. He left the funniest comment ever on one my test question mistakes. Some people weren't serious about the class. Don't be like them. You'll fail

He wrote the book for the class. As long as you read the book, do the homework in the book, and pay attention in class you should pass. If you miss class a lot you will not be able to catch up.

Took him in Spring 20. First half was in person, then after the Covid 19 pandemic we went online. Homework is broken up into 4 sets of 50-90 problems and due every couple weeks. One midterm, one summary paper, one project paper, and one final. Overall, he makes statistics very learnable.

Funny thing the professor says is that you dont have to attend the class if you are busy. The key point to succeed in this class is DO NOT miss a single of his lecture. You are going to use stuff you learned in previous lecture, which means if you miss a single of his lecture(5hr), you will be lost and it is extremely very hard to bring it back.

Took Professor Curtis during spring 2023 he is helpful ended up with a 78% could of done better but unprepared situations happen, class is intense but he is an amazing teacher

I took this class in spring 2023. It was hybrid. you shouldn't fail as long as you come to the class and do homeworks weekly. I agree he has a poor instruction and lecture in online. He is a great professor in-person but i think i wouldve failed or got lower grade if I took this online. xD So don't take him online. But in-person or hybird is fine.
