very good! she should be in Ohlone forever. no teacher can replace her!
The materials are really hard, but she helps you a lot. In Ohlone, she is the best OChem teacher ever. I love you so much Dr. Ganguly. She should teachs at Ohlone forever.
She is the best! If most of the class fail the test (for example, the 2nd O-chem test), she gives out extra credict 32 points! ^.^ so that most ppl got back to their feets. Someone even have more than 100% due to the extra credict. Most ppl get B while they were expecting C grade. This couldn't get any betta!!!
what can I say? she is the best. She really care about her student's future and improvement. She offers to write good letter of recommendation. She was strict in the beginning; but will be a nice gentle person when she gets to know you, which takes 1 or 2 months. Don't be fooled by her strictness in the beginning and drop the class!Stay there!!!
Those ppl who said bad about her is all wrong. All OChem professor are just like that. They are doing their job. If you go to UC, you will know whether Ganguly is good or not. She is the best professor ever. Her teaching is the right method. OChem is memorization, in all school, not only her class. So lazy people, who doesn't want to memorize, then
I will say she is a very nice person, but she is not a good teacher. She will tell you not to read the book that her notes are enough NOT TRUE. She will tell you what to study for the test, but then it's not on the test. You have to correctly spell and draw almost everything. No x-credit and no homework to help boost grade. Frustrating teacher.
She is the best O-Chem teacher you can find oin this planet. Excellent teaching style, very easy to follow and a great personality. If you want to be prepared for chemistry, she is it!!! The whole class loves her. Only lazy people will not do well. She is absolutely excellent!!! Best teacher at Ohlone
Very good teacher. Her teaching style is excellent. Tests are very very fair. The whole class loved her. You will learn a lot. Only students who dont work hard will not do well. She really cares about the students. I agree, she is the Best chemistry teacher any one can have. Highly recommended
Yes she is ok. People should not say the whole class LOVED her..we were frustrated a lot and a lot of arguing about when to take tests and bunch of time wasted...then Final is crammed in..She has a huge heart and will pour it out to help you..and DO EVERYTHING NOTES AND HW..KEY TO CLASS IS BOTH OF THESE THINGS. TAKE GOOD NOTES PLEASE and you will g
Very good teacher. Only way you will not pass is if you dont study. She can make chemistry very easy. Very nice personality, down to earth and very very professional. Tests are very fair. She is excellent. What can I say. She should be teaching all the chemistry courses in Ohlone. She is remarkably good.
She is a very loving person and really wants everyone to pass. You don't need to study the book, just study the notes, because she'll only test you on the notes she gives you. She's clear on what she's teaching and what you need to know. It's up to you to study and practice it so that you will do well on the exams. She's fair, just do your part, too
Great teacher, great class. took her spring07. I noticed if ur lazy, ur out of luck! For all those digusting comments about her, not true! Just take notes, go to class everyday and memorize everything and you'll do just fine. she gives extra credit which is awesome..that's how i got my A+ Dr Ganguly is great! :) This is an easy class if u study!
She will prepare you well, if you'll get A from her most likely you'll succeed in UCBerkeley. She helps serious students. Chocolate will not help you if you do not study. Previous comment about flowers was probably left by lazy student who felt envy for people who got A's. By the way majority of 12B students got A's. if you lazy - stay away
The class is hard. Two things to focus: her notes and the back of the chapter hw. Do them more than once and you will earn your A. and of course. Chem106A or B is ez. The guy below me didn't take o-chem yet so, he won't know how hard chem112A or 112B is.
Great class! Lectures are clear and exams are fair(but note, fair does not equal easy). Keep up on HW and make summary sheets of all chapters that include reactions and difficult HW problems. She acts tough the first few weeks to drive off the drops, but study hard and hang in there. You'll find the class rewarding, and she's kind and encouraging!
Hard teacher. but nice =). The Mechanism problems she puts on the test will****you...not to mention her Synthesis probs. do hw at least twice each CH. review all sample probs she gives in class notes THOROUGHLY. Shes a sweet teacher and sometimes she throws out a random comment that will have to you bust out laughing. LOLs!!!!
Excellent instructor. Her lectures are very clear. I learnt a lot from her class.
BEST teacher at Ohlone College. Best teacher in the world.
THE GREATEST INSTRUCTOR IN OHLONE.TAKE HER AND HAVE FUN. TAKE MY WORDS.:p
One of the best teachers I have had. The only extra credit is a bonus question in exams. Very clear lectures very fair exams. Very helpful. Genuinely a nice, warm person. I recommend everybody to take a course with her. Her inspiration will change your life for the better. Thank you, Dr. Ganguly.
Very nice teacher. Provided extra credit assigs. Exams are based on her lecture, only referred to book for several drawings of molecules. Lecture thoroughly so all students can understand info. Exam were sort of hard, must study her lecture notes thoroughly. Provided 1-on-1 meetings for help/grade status. Highly recommend Dr. Ganguly!
excellent instructor. A teacher who is very sweet and nice. Will help you for hours to understand the subject and do well in the class. Class is very fair. Tests are fair. Teacher very helpful and provide support. She really feels for the student. Dr. Ganguly became my good friend by the end of the course and helped me to transfer.
Very good teaching style. Lectures very clear and exams very very fair. Exams from homework and notes. You can get A by studying hard and doing notes and homework. Dr. Ganguly is very helpful. My friend had to drop the class due to family problems and Dr. ganguly still helped her transfer by writing her a excellent letter of reference.
She is one of the best teachers at Ohlone. granted, this is an easy class compared to 112a, but she is still a good teacher for this class. She's really nice and she helps you with anything you don't understand. She's also really fair when she grades stuff, and she doesn't try to ask sneaky questions on her tests. take her, you won't regret it!!!!!
Dr. Ganguly is a very good teacher. You can tell she enjoys her job. I took Chemistry waaaaay back in high school so I have forgotten a lot. She makes the material easy to understand. As long as you attend class everyday, you will do well on all her quizzes and exams. Attendence is a MUST! If I were a science major, I would take all the requi
Dr. ganguly prepared student for MCat. I took her course and passed the O-Chem part of MCat without studying. This course is excellent for MCAT and Pcat. If you work hard you can get 100% on Dr. Ganguly's class. take her. She is the BEST. But dont be lazy in her class. With Dr. Ganguly's letter I got into Med school. Thank you, Dr. Ganguly.
Excellent instructor. Clear teaching style. Exams very fair. But you cannot be lazy in this course. I agree with person below, after taking Dr. Ganguly's O-Chem the MCat is a piece of cake. I took Dr. Ganguly's O-Chem with Bio and Physics and still got a A in her course but I studied a loooot. TAKE HER COURSE! You will love it .
Very good teaching style. Dr. Ganguly helped me by calling me to her home to practice homework. No other teacher will do that . She spend a whole day with me at her home so that I could understand the material. I just passed the Mcat. O-Chem in MCat was a breeze after Dr. Ganguly's course. TAKE HER. Fun course, LOL, but you have to work hard.
She may teach well, however she is quite strict on her safety procedures and other things. Do not miss the friday lectures and always have your pavia lab manual book on fridays, she will easily dock off points off your lab! There are also only 3 quizzes and exams, and she does not grade homework, but she states what you have to do in class.
She will expect you to draw everything to ruler edge straight on labs and prelabs are to be handwritten and labs are only worth 8 points. The problems she give on mc quizzes may as other students have stated prepare you for the MCAT and she may act as if she wants to help you....but it is not exactly that way.
Dunno what the student below is talking about. Last year we had a DSPS student in O-Chem. Dr. Ganguly helped her so much. She was my friend. Go check out DSPS roster you will know who I am talking about. Dr. Ganguly is a GREAT teacher. Very helpful.
If you are serious about learning Chemistry, then Ganguly will provide you a way. She is not easy, but very straightforward and predictable. She tells you EXACTLY what to do to get an A. The main reason why people fail and drop is because they are lazy. DSPS is no excuse. That person wouldn't be able to make it at the University level anyway.
I have mild ADHD and a birth defect that prevents me from seeing out of my right eye. I regularly attend the tutorial and have an A in her class. If you want to do well, the opportunity is there. If you are disabled, tell her in advance at her office hours. Don't present a sob story while in lab like the people below did.
I have a B at this point, but am working towards an A. I don't have her for lab, only lecture. She is funny in a quirky way... I am enjoying her class. She teaches directly from the book and tells you exactly what you need to know.
I am pretty happy with her. Her exams are very fair. She spends a great deal of time explaining homework problems and prepares you for her tests. Makes chemistry very easy to undersand. I like her.
excellent instructor. She makes you work really hard, but in the end you really learn the material and you get a good grade. She pretends to be tough but is really a very soft hearted and a very nice person. She was one of my best chemistry instructors. She really has pepared me for university level.
BE PREPARED TO BE DISCOURAGED! AT ONE POINT SHE BASICALLY TOLD THE WHOLE CLASS TO DROP. SHES SO FULL OF HERSELF THAT WHEN A STUDENT GOT 110% ON A TEST, SHE WENT BACK THROUGH IT TO MARK THINGS WRONG JUST BECAUSE SHE DIDNT WANT TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY DID SO WELL. MAKES YOU MEMORIZE UNNECESSARY THINGS THE DAY BEFORE THE QUIZ/TESTS! NOT RECOMMEND
This is an AWESOME teacher. She looks and speaks very tough on the outside, but she is a very soft and extremely kind person inside. She makes you work hard and you may think you will get a bad grade, but in the end she rewards you with a very goood grade if you have worked hard. She should teach all chemistry course at Ohlone. THe BEST
Very good teacher! Excellent teaching style. GREAT notes. Exam very fair. But have to work hard in the course. LOVE Dr. Ganguly! Best teacher at Ohlone college, if you want to learn something.
what a nice teacher! she really knows how to teach and gives good grades too. exams are very straightforwrd. just study notes and do homework. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. take O-chem with Dr. Ganguly and no one else!
Great teacher. She is tough. Course is not for the faint of heart or lazy. If you work hard, her course, exams and lectures are very clear. Many students got a 90% or above in the class, because they worked hard. Take your O-chem with Prof Ganguly.
I took Dr. Ganguly's one year organic chemistry course. Tough teacher, but if you study you do very well. Exams from the homework and the notes. Her lectures makes O-Chem very easy to understand. She is also writes the ACS exam, and MCAT exam. If you do well in her class, MCAT exam no problem. Just a breeze. Even university level a cake.
I took Dr. Ganguly one year ago. I agree that you have to work hard. But she is an excellent teacher. Very knowledgable. Has an excellent way of explaining chemistry concepts that can actually make you understand. Exams are from homework and her notes. She is very funny too. Highly recommend. iMost knowledgable chemistry teacher at Ohlone.
I took Proffesor Ganguly for one year. I am very happy with the course. O-Chem is hard EVERYWHERE. In fact it's a nightmare in all colleges. I dropped O-Chem in two other colleges, and finally passed with Dr. Ganguly as she is very clear. Study her notes and homework and you will do great. take her, u will not regret.
I agree with the person below. I took O-Chem in two other colleges but no luck. With Dr. Ganguly, I passed with a good grade because she gives very good notes and explains well. If you study homework and notes you can get 100% in the exams. She is also the writer of the ACS exam, so you can do good in the ACS test if you take her course.
This is a tough course. But Dr. Ganguly is a great teacher. Her exams are 100% from homework and notes and 131-D. If you study then you can get an A in the course. But the material is tough to remember. But take Dr. Ganguly's course if you really want to learn chemistry. Very knowledgeable teacher, can explain everything very easily. Helpful.
Very sweet teacher. Soft spoken, gentle, yet strict as hell when it comes to actually making students learn. Great sense of humor. Teaching style very clear and unique. Knows chemistry like the back of her hand. Very knowledgeable on ALL other fields of science like Physics, Math, Bio, you name it. I loved Dr. Ganguly's class.
I am really enjoying the course. Dr. Ganguly is a very cool teacher. She writes excellent letters of recommendation. Really wants to help her students by writing nice letters. Great teacher too. Looks strict, but actually very down to earth.
Recommend Dr. Ganguly. I am surprised how she becomes super friendly in the second semester which is 112-B. In 112-A she is very strict and wants students to know how hard the course is, but in reality she is quite kind. and yes, she writes excellent recommendation letters. Very helpful with her letters, she WILL help student get job.
Very clear in lecture style. Exams straight from notes and homework. If you attend 131D you pretty much know what is going to be on the exam. A difficult course but taught extremely well by Dr. Ganguly. She is far superiour than any other chemistry teacher in the bay area. She is the only choice if you want to take a good chemistry course.
What I like about Professor Ganguly's teaching is that she really brings about the importance of the subject in her 131D. This makes the exams very predictable. Grading is very fair. A very tough subject but Professor Ganguly makes it very clear and as concise as possible. Her style is very transparent and straighforward.
I had a very good experience with Dr. Ganguly. She is very clear on what needs to be studied in order to get an A. Dr. Ganguly was very helpful with excellent recommendation letters that she writes for all her students. She is very kind and supportive but does not dilute her teaching. Will help in every way even years after you take her class.
Dr. Ganguly is an amazing teacher. Clear grading criteria. Helps students a lot. She is my chem 109 lab prof. Looking forward for an A .
She's nice and friendly. However, her class is not easy for people who's not familiar with chem. There're 3 exams including final, two practical lab exams one with exam one and the 2nd with final and there are 4 quizzes. The quizzes are multiple choice but not the exams. Final is comprehensive. If you r good with chem go for her you'll do good.
I had her as a lab teacher (and I had a different teacher for the lecture days). Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. Instruction seems disorganized and all over the place. I couldn't take her labs seriously and I didn't think it was worth attending, especially when it's only 19% of my overall grade but it shot my A down to a B. XP
Im writing this in my senior year at UC Medicinal Chem. Ganguly taught me both theory and lab techniques that transpired to my to my courses at my university very well and it gave me an upper hand compared to my peers that entered as freshman. She's a ruthless grader but she prepares you very well for future academia and chem professions Thank you
Simplifys things to the point of them being inaccurate sometimes Otherwise cool person and a sweetheart
Professor Ganguly constantly reminds students to practice their material and is very caring. However, she is very disorganized and seems unprepared for lecture. Quizzes are of a low difficulty. There's little to no homework. Most of your work is based on you studying the material on your own time. Make sure you bring scantrons everyday to class!
Go to class take note do your homework and keep reviewing your note You will be fine
I am writing this feedback as I am wrapping up a help session with Dr. Ganguly . She spent four hours with me helping me. She is an amazing teacher. I have taken Chem 109 with other profs. Her course is the best taught. Lots of help from tutors and Dr. Ganguly in this course. I have a B, sure to get a A!
AMAZING teacher. I took this course several times before. Dr. ganguly teaches it the best. It's easiest with her. Lots of help from her and her tutors. TAKE it with her.
At first, I'm so excited to take Chem-109. She is my Professor in the lecture. The first month of the class is hard for me. I can't even understand a thing and this affects my performance in the lab too. The class is at a fast pace, pop quiz and she expects you to understand it on one go. She doesn't even post the grades on canvas. Wish u luck
these reviews about her are all a lie. she is not worth 3 stars let alone 4. she lectures very fast and her exams aren't based on her PowerPoints. they're based on what she says, so you have to study a lot on your own in this class, but since its chem none of the topics make any sense on your own. so you have to go to her TA for tutoring.
Do not take her. Her lectures are slide shows and wont explain anything further than just reading the power points. She wont take the time to help a student one on one. She doesn't respond to emails quick as well. She wont tell you your grade until you finish an exam.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. I'm a natural hard worker but this class did not come easy to me- it can for others so you may do really well in this class. You're graded mostly on your quizzes and tests but really she is testing whether you did the homework or not. Doing the hw is CRUCIAL!!! Don't fall behind!!
Not the greatest professor. She was extremely unorganized and didn't specify what we needed to know and what we didn't need to know. She's hard to follow along and you're going to mostly be self-studying. Avoid and take the course somewhere else.
The material itself isnt hard, you just need to practice the homework over and over again to really understand it. However, the professor has an unreasonable mindset. She changed every exam and quiz trying to see what worked best affecting my grade each time during remote learning. She made me feel bad for not knowing things when I asked questions
Unreasonable teacher, her online class is structured terribly. Her class has too much going on. She needs to change the course again and be more considerate.
This is one of the most unreasonable professors I have ever had. Her lecture material is at the most 45 minutes long to cover such dense material which is not nearly enough time to cover an entire chapter. You have to spend hours outside of class re-doing the homework and teaching yourself the concepts.
She is very unreasonable with every aspect of this class, in grading , the amount of work she gives, her overly short lectures that do not cover any material, time on exams. She wastes time in lab by keeping people in break out rooms for 2 hours .
WORST class I've ever had to take. Because of COVID she's made her course unreasonably difficult. She acts as if her class is the only one were taking which is very inconsiderate of her. So far its very disorganized, the first exam was a whole circus. Take this class someplace else if you can, she is the only prof at Ohlone teaching it.
Very much available to students. Lectures recorded are a big help. She is willing to help you with anything during labs and office hours, including weekends. tests are very fair. very good teacher. If you do all the assignments you will get an A . She is with you EVERY step of the way.
This teacher is accessable to students 24/7. She responds immediately on email. Lectures are recorded. Very clear lectures. She will help you ANY time of the week including weekends. In the labs she shows you how to do ALL the graded assignments, so that you can get 100% on them. VERY caring teacher. test was very fair.
dr. ganguly transitioned to online first time this semester, so she is very open to student feedback. She changed the style of homework and assignments and testing style just to accommodate students feedback. She really listens to students and make sure they do well. Amazing lectures and explanation. She is available literally day and night.
She makes me feel bad whenever I ask for help, that is not okay. Her lectures aren't clear, especially for those taking o chem for the first time.
This is a hard course anywhere. Dr. ganguly teaches this course in great detail. Available for office hours even on Sunday. Responds to email in 5 minutes. Very well taught. You learn a lot. take her.I am getting A in this course.
Dr. ganguly has restructured this course based on student feedback. O chem is a hard course everywhere. She offers a good course that prepares you for MCAT exams. , is available ALL the time to help. you have to work hard. Not for lazy people. Her lectures are clear and she is very helpful. She replies to students email even at 11.30
Very hard course but taught very well. Prepares you very well for MCAT. You need to work hard . I was struggling at first but with hard work and with Dr. Ganguly always there to help me, I improved my grade. If you are willing to work hard, your A is sure. Dr. Ganguly will help you even on weekends and late night office hours. Learnt a LOT.
I am learning a lot in this course. I am very well prepared for my MCAT. Hard course, but Dr. ganguly helps you succeed. She is always there to help. This course is much better than "easy" courses elsewhere that teaches nothing. You will be really prepared in the end. Take this course! Highly recommend. But not for lazy people.
Writing it after I transferred, with her help of recommendation letter I got in the program of my UC to work in the lab as an undergrad student. Look back I really enjoyed her classes and got a good grade. Take your note well, and do homework you will be find
Professor Ganguly lecture prepares me for MCAT. With her letter of recommendation, I was able to get a summer internship this year. I have asked her for letter of rec. numerous times, each time she writes a letter for me without hesitation. Dont be hesitant to ask for help either for academia or asking her recommendation for applying to research.
No partial credit on tests at all. You either get the entire answer along with the work correctly or you don't. Even with it being correct, if you don't word it the exact way she wants, you get it wrong. Class averages: 30-40%. Grade depended mainly on quizzes and tests. Quizzes were fair, but tests were not. Very discouraging professor...
Hard course but LOTS of help from Ganguly. Exams need studying and critical thinking. Trick is to pay attention to her excellent chapter discussions. My entire study group last semester got high B, but we had worked very hard. Dr. Ganguly is there for you round the clock. I am grateful for the way she prepared me for chemistry. DEDICATED teacher.
She's an amazing professor! I took chem-109 with her in Fall 2020. I was pretty scared of taking the class at first because I hadn't studied chemistry since forever, but she made it very easy. The class has quizzes but if you study from her study guides, you're good to go. Go to the tutoring lab or ask her questions; easy A. She's a caring prof.
Professor Ganguly is very clear about what are the core concepts and practice problems to work on to efficiently study for the exams. After one semester at UC Berkeley as a transfer student, this class definitely prepared me enough to perform well in the MCB courses and to be competitive among other Cal students.
Dr. G is one of the most academically stimulating professors I have encountered in my undergrad experience. The professor makes the material understandable and clear to the point. Although the course was rigorous, it was very much doable. Her course will put you ahead at any other university, and she will be your best friend in doing well in OChem.
She doesn't explain things into depth and doesn't answer questions clearly. Expects you to know things that she didn't teach for the exam
Chem 109 lab is very well organized. She goes over each answer on the worksheet before students submit. VERY well explained lab. Helpful outside class anytime you want. More than 50% students got more than B in the lab course. GREAT teacher. Take her.
very good teacher. Explains everything in Chem 109 in great details. Exams are from what she teaches.
I am an A-Student. I work hard, but I need office hours and tutoring. Ganguly did not allow students to go to tutoring for help with homework. We were not allowed to ask her for help either. She had 15 min of office hours 2x/week. Tried to hold class hours outside of class several times. Over half the students dropped by the end of the semester.
Organic Chem is a very difficult course without a doubt. But, Dr. Ganguly is always there to help, outside class. Has office hours even on weekends. Responds to email even late at night. Ask for help and Dr. Ganguly will be with you all the way to help you succeed. But work hard.
Greatest professor so far I ever had in my academic path. She is my greatest support on my academic and career path. She is welcome to give me good reference and help me to get in different program and internship. Such a pleasure to have her as my professor.
I did not think she was a great teacher. cares for her students to an extent but her actual teaching was subpar. Be prepared to do lots of problems on your own (homework) & go over it until you know it like the back of your hand. lectures were recorded to be watched on our own time, then we met with her to go over problems. not 4 my learning style
recorded lectures, tests & quizzes during lab time, expected to know material before going to lab. very exam heavy. half the class dropped by the W date. just cause youre an A student doesnt mean you can get an A in this class. shes extremely difficult & expects you know to ochem like she does. dont take her if you can help it.
Organic Chem is a very difficult course. Be ready to spend all your time on it. Many students dropped, but many in the class had B and many A's. I got an A. I Studied literally day and night. Dr. Ganguly is a tough teacher. But a VERY GOOD teacher. Helpful, knowledgeable. Not for lazy students. She is always available on email and officehour
Dr. Ganguly has lectures recorded and is online. You can hear the lecture at your own time. Lab is in person. She goes over homework and practice in the lab worksheets so you are prepared for quizzes and exams. You need to study the material DAILY. It's a very difficult subject. Dr. Ganguly very accessable. Study like CRAZY and you get a A .
Amazing class! OChem is a hard subject but Dr. Ganguly is great at breaking concepts down simply, making them understandable and easy. Will learn a lot! Make sure to take her class if you get a chance. Best professor I ever had, super caring, supportive and accessible in/outside class, truly cared about students success (academic and professional)
As long as you review the material she goes over in class you'll be gold. She's super nice and funny, also fair!
Professor Ganguly is a great instructor. She has a spirit of inspiration for her students. Organic Chemistry is not an easy course, but if you put the work in you will be rewarded. The habits that I picked up in this course helped me with academic and industry success. Currently I am an Associate Scientist in pursuit of becoming a Pharmacist.
Professor Granguly is amazing! Although the class was one of the most challenging classes, she is very supportive and encouraging. I gained confidence in my studying skills after this class and it helped me prepare for my upper divison classes as a human biology major at UC Davis! She is also always avaliable for advices outside of class.
Very detailed lectures & outlines labs clearly. We go over lab answers before we turn them in. No hw besides studying the content and finishing lab worksheets. Fast-paced class, but you learn a lot. Can be challenging for those who never had any basic chem/bio knowledge. Replies to emails FAST. Such a helpful + nice prof. She wants you to do well!
Prof. Anu is my favorite prof at ohlone. She is super caring for her students. She makes Ochem very clear, and fun to learn. I got A for my two Ochem class. My tips will be just simply follow her instructions, TAKING NOTES for lectures, PRACTICING homework she assigns. Ochem is all about practicing. Follow her, you will get good grade for sure.
Professor Ganguly's class requires a lot of discipline/studying but you're able to learn a lot about O-Chem. She is always accessible and has office hours every weekday. There are assessments weekly, both on the lecture videos and chapter quizzes. Just study the lecture slides and do the worksheets, and you will be fine!
By far my favorite classes! Dr. Ganguly is the best ochem professor and she teaches the material clearly and in a very fun way. She actually cares about her students and encourages them to be their best. Her constant support will get you understanding the material with no worry. Take the class with Dr. Ganguly, you wont regret it.
The two classes were straightforward and I think her tests accurately reflected how much we studied for the class. She gives accurate advice on how much and what to practice/study. If you allocate enough time to study for this class, you would be just fine. She is always fair and does her best to give enough time for questions during class.
I enjoyed being in her class. It was online and she was doing the best she could to make the material easy to understand and enjoyable. She is accommodating to students who need extra assistance. I definitely feel like whatever grade you get is a result of the effort you put in. She wants her students to do well and it shows.
Professor Ganguly will do all that she possibly could to ensure that you not only succeed in this class, but in your education as a whole. She is always reachable whether via office hours, email, and more. She has truly been a major catalyst to my academic success (pun intended). OChem is by no means an easy class, but she truly makes it bearable.
Exams and quizzes are fair, particle credit for the procedures. For synthesis, as long as your reactors and products is correct you will get points. Textbook is necessary, if you can follow her along the lecture then you should be fine. She also would like to help you with recommendation letter and other stuff.
I dropped this class because of how inconsistent she is and constantly broke promises us. The recorded lecture slides are so essential to acing pre-lecture quizzes but they are horribly paced. She'll tell you she will support your studies then another day suggest you should drop out once you fall behind. Makes you feel weeded out.
She may have a great grasp on ochem but her ability to teach it is dismal. She's late more than half the time, has a very haphazard way of teaching and does not have a lesson plan. This is an asynchronous class which means the lectures are recorded and watched at home. Don't take this class unless you think u can teach yourself ochem.
Extremely well organized course. Thank you for clear online lecture recordings, which are VERY useful. She goes over the chapter and worksheets in great detail in lab review. Quizzes are from the review. Very well taught. Modules very organized. Study hard. This is O Chem, not easy subject. Dr. ganguly helps you a lot.
Dr. Ganguly OChem modules and course very organized. She review each chapter for three hours in lab worksheet time. Recorded lectures very useful. Course is online for lecture, but with Dr. ganguly detailed review of each chapter, and her help I am getting A in the course. quizzes and examsare taken from her lecture review and worksheet.
If you believe this five-star rating you're delusional she's most likely bribing people to give her a decent review. She spends very little time teaching the material. Her class organization of tests and lectures is laughable, it's completely disorganized. Just because she claims to be well-versed in organic chemistry doesn't mean she can teach it
The course i am taking is Fall 2022. Lecture is online. No classroom lectures. Exam 1 class average 8o% and exam 2 class average 84%. All Quizzes class average around 78-82%. I have a B+ in the class. Follow lecture recording and her lab review. Good class. This is the highest grades you will get in OChem from any college.
The professor really cares about you. The class may seem hard as the lecture is entirely online but as long as you take good notes on what she said in her lecture, you are good. She gives a lot of extra credits and a lot of bonus questions. If you don't get something, she is always ready to help you. She made the hard class easy and enjoyable!!!!
Take her class. You will end up with the grade you want as long as you put in the effort. Of course, you have to study hard as OChem itself is a hard subject. Her lab sessions and worksheet help you a lot. She really cares about students; she knows everyone's names. Hard subject but the professor makes it so much easier!!!
This hybrid class worked with my work schedule. Currently, taking her class and I'm glad I chose this course with Dr. Ganguly. Heavy lecture, but she works with you and gives you chances for extra points in case you need it to boost your exam grade. You won't regret taking her class! I wish she taught other science classes!
Prof. Ganguly is a really great professor. You can ask her questions anytime and I have never seen her hesitating to give the answers. Of course, you need to study hard as the subject itself is really hard. As long as you study hard and follow her lead, you will end up with the grade you want for sure. She is the best prof one can have for OChem!
Amazing professor! Quiz/exam questions are from the pre-recorded lecture and worksheets. To study, just reread notes on the lecture/slides. #1 tip: make a spreadsheet or reaction book to keep track of the nuances of each mechanism. Ochem's known for being a hard subject so I was scared at first, but keep working hard and you'll definitely do well!
If you watch the pre-recorded lectures and take detailed notes, you are on track for an A. My tip: after watching the lecture, do the assigned problems. They are not graded but help A LOT as quiz questions come directly from slides, worksheets, and the assigned problems. Exams are broader. Easiest way to study is to go over the slides/notes again.
She is the best teacher ever. She is caring about her students and wants everyone to succeed. No homework, easy to get an A if you study. She gives you extra credits. All quizzes come directly from her PowerPoint which is clear and easy to understand., so you don't need a book. High recommend Taking her class
Amazing teacher ever. She is starting from the beginning even though you did not take any chemistry class before, she explains clear and easy ways to make sure everyone understands well. No homework and grading assignments in the class after each part of the chapter. The lab is easy too. She is funny, helpful, and caring for all her students
Professor Ganguly is awesome! I took this as an online evening class because I was working as well. Lab was in-person once a week in the evenings. Her class is very engaging, fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If anyone is on the fence about taking this class with her, I highly recommend it. She truly cares about her students and helps them succeed
This class worked great for me. Professor can improve punctuality, though. Lectures are online recordings; labs and tests are in-person. Is fast paced. Prepare for intense study and memorization. Professor does not review a lesson once finished. No notes allowed for tests. Taking good notes and constantly reviewing course material helped me excel.
As an SAS (Student Accessibility Service) student, I appreciate that Professor Ganguly followed through on offering necessary accommodations for tests and quizzes. We could visit the professor or the TA during their own office hours to discuss course materials. Professor Ganguly sincerely cared about the success of every student.
The OChem itself is hard so you really need to work hard to get good grades but Prof. Ganguly makes the class a lot easier. The lectures are online but the professor explains the concept again during the lab sessions so it is easy to follow. The professor really cares for her students and you can easily visit her office hours to ask questions.
As long as you are willing to put in the effort in this class, you will finish with good grades. The subject can be hard but the professor is always there to help you. A lot of materials to study and OChem can sometimes be really hard but her officer hours are very helpful and you can also ask her questions after class!!
Easy A if you actually study. Weekly online recorded lectures and weekly pre chapter quizzes and chapter end quizzes but it will be an easy class if you study!! She reviews the materials during lab and it is very helpful. She is the best professor one can have for OChem. OChem definitely becomes so much easier for me because of her!!!
Organic chemistry is not an easy subject, but this is probably one of the best places to take it. Extra resources/videos are online, as well as students and the professor herself are available to help stay on-pace. Recommend taking quality notes for yourself, don't be afraid to make mistakes in practice, and you'll do great. A bit of time each day.
112A is not an easy course. It requires a lot of time to read, to watch the lecture video, and to take notes. It will takes hours to practice and review on a daily basis. The amount of practice is critical for this course. The quizzes and exams are base on the concept from the lecture and worksheet. If you want a good grade, be ready to spend time.
Prof Ganguly makes O-Chem digestible and gives you all the resources you need to succeed. But you'll only succeed with repeated practice of the problems. Quizzes are free-response so practice mechanisms a lot!!! Exams are multiple-choice and I highly recommend making flashcards of the reagents and your own summary sheet for each chapter.
I only took 112B at Ohlone to fulfill lab credit & having taken 112A/B at another college, Ohlone's 112B is considerably easier. However, for those who haven't taken the course before, 112B can still be a little difficult. Weekly (sometimes multiple) quizzes, note-taking heavy. 1st exam class avg was an A tho. Very nice professor, would take again.
If you do the lectures online, attend the labs, and power points. You will succeed in class. The other thing that I really appreciate from Dr. Ganguly is that she is really caring, she wants you to succeed and finds the way for you to succeed in her class. I recommend her 100%.
This class is no bueno man
AVOID HER!
If you study with her Worksheet/Lecture video, it's not hard for you to get A. Prof won't give unexpected questions on the exam besides these materials. The test will be helpful for your premed. But plz go over all chapter thoroughly since each chapter is related to previous chapter. She will break your stereotype that ochem is the hardest class.
Professor really cares your great score. (She's going to give you extra credits!) But the priority is that you have to do your best. You will be succeed then! :) The lab section is mostly for working the reaction mechanisms, it would be very fun. Tip for great score: Hand-writing reaction mechanisms >>>> reading them
All lectures are online recordings. If you put in the time (at least 10hr/w) to study rxn mechanisms, make detailed notes, and do the textbook questions and worksheets, you will succeed. I recommend volunteering in worksheet labs, especially if you need help. She will put you on the spot, but this is to help you rather than bully you.
Fantastic! The once-a-week, in-person worked perfectly with my busy schedule. The mix of online lessons and hands-on labs made learning easy. Dr. Ganguly is not only a great teacher but also lovely and kind. The extra credit she offers is super helpful for tests, and with some effort, getting an A is definitely doable. Highly recommend her classes
The class average for the semester was an 81 percent despite many people dropping out. The 5/5 rating doesn't mean this class is easy. Many reviewers on here are the best students in the class and are not the norm. I would highly advise you to really explore other o-chem classes if available-- you may find an easier prof.
TAKE THIS COURSE. Easiest biochem class ever! Prof. condenses textbook into short slides so you don't have to read textbook. Tests/quizzes are multiple choice and EXACTLY like the practice problems posted. Has online office hours twice a week and responds to emails almost immediately. Little homework, EASY labs, and online lectures are convenient
Precise summary of the textbook on the lecturer slides and engaging hands on lab class. Amazing in-class attendance flexibility, only once a week, rest of the work was online. Prof. Anu is available to offer support, responds to emails during or after class. I would encourage any student struggling in Chem or has tight schedule to pick this class.
Professor Ganguly is very caring and a great professor. I took her class in the fall semester; it was perfect and exciting. I learned a lot from this class. It isn't an easy class, but the course material is arranged so that if students follow the professor's PowerPoint slides, they will learn a lot of material and get a good score.
Being an O-Chem course, be prepared to fully commit your time and efforts to CHEM-112A. The materials are difficult and require a lot of time to understand and remember, but Professor Ganguly dissected them for us students to better understand. Also gives clear feedback on where you can improve to do better on the upcoming quizzes and exams.
This class is a very manageable. All of the content is on powerpoints that are posted on Canvas. Just read and learn the info on the slides. Exams are based on slides and lab exams are based on previous labs. Just put a bit of effort in. The quizzes are tricky as there's no clear outline of what will be tested. Otherwise it's a low stress class.
Organic Chemistry is a challenging course, but Dr. Ganguly will guide you through it step by step. Lab worksheet sessions, rewatching the lectures, rewriting notes, online homework, though time consuming will give you what you need to succeed. Having a study parter can make the process less daunting!
Organic chemistry although is a very detailed course, Dr. Ganguly does a phenomenal job explaining concepts and spends the time explaining concept if you need extra help/struggling with any topics. Being a pre-med student myself, this course and other ohlone science classes had me prepared for MCAT and helped me to get my dream score!
Please don't take this class lightly. As someone who has made the past mistake of taking this class with other 5 credit STEM classes, I was suffering. You have to put in 30+ hours per week for this class. Prof Ganguly is extremely helpful, and provides many resources, but this class requires a lot of time and effort.
As long as you don't take more than 15 credits, should be ok. Class is difficult, lots of reading and concepts, however, it gets easy as long as you put in consistent effort daily. To perform in the class, stick to slides and the worksheet for written quizzes and exams, constantly read and understand them. Don't stack other stem classes with 112A/B
Biochemistry can be quite dense but with professor Ganguly she structures her class in a way that is very straightforward, with her quizzes and exams mirroring her slides and problem sets. I work a full time job and was able to dedicate at least an hour a day to the course to stay on track, if timing will be difficult I do not recommend this class.
This class is a very intensive but straight forward class. While it is A LOT of info, if you put in the time and effort, it will translate to your work. The class I took was a once a week, evening lab online class that was very helpful for my work/life schedule. I would recommend this class to anyone who has other commitments outside of school.
The way the course is set up is pretty straightforward. I did put in effort to study the reactions but it didn't reflect in my grade. Even if I did super well on quizzes, the exams kept dragging my grade down. As an A student, this course made me feel like I sucked, won't take it again. Stress was to the max.
Organic Chem with Professor Ganguly is tough, but staying on top of the material through studying, worksheets, and using resources like Unstuck AI can help you succeed. Not an easy A, but worth the effort.
Dr. G. will set you up for success in CHEM109. Everything you need to know is in the slides. She tells you explicitly what you need to memorize. She gives lots of practice problems (with solutions). 80% of your grade is in-person chapter quizzes/exams. I took the night class which worked great with my schedule. Put the work in and you'll do well.
rude and condescending. very hard quizzes with extreme nitpicking on points. cold teacher who calls out students and embarrasses/exposes them. every week expect at least 2-3 quizzes minimum.
Dr. G has students practice on the lab board the chapter mechanisms and synthesis. She guides you gently and everyone can come up and practice on the board. She puts the same stuff on the exams. My grade went up due to practice opportunities.
You will need to study from day one and practice every day to get a decent grade. Written quizzes every week with strict grading. Memorization heavy but also requires logic. You need to pay attention to every word spoken in class since the professor can test you on anything. The course requires great time and effort. Good luck!
Great class but EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Content is very very hard. Almost everyone drops. Must study up to 40 hours every week to receive anything above C. DO NOT take this class with other lab classes. All your grades will be bad. Dedicate a semester entirely to ochem. Very fast paced. 2+ quizzes EVERY week, lots and lots of lectures and note taking.
I took the evening course while also being a high school student and this class was do-able. The lectures online and the study checks are very similar to the quizzes so study from those. Professor Anu was super caring and supportive. Her course is very clear and sets you up for success.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS COURSE! i work full-time and drove over an hour and half for this course and got an A so it's doable. The only other biochem option is at a UC/CSU but who wants to pay for that. Study the lectures and study sets and an A is guaranteed! This course fulfills pharmacy and optometry pathways too.TAKE THE COURSE! DR. ANU IS AMAZING
This course had lectures online and lab in person in the evenings which works with my fulltime schedule. You need to study the lecture materials provided as well as the study sets and you will get an A. Dr. Anu is amazing and is here to help you succeed. This is cheaper than taking biochem at a CSU or UC too so it's a no-brainer. TAKE IT NOW!!
Professor was very caring and supportive. Course was very straightforward with everything in Canvas modules. I highly suggest taking CHEM-109 with BIOL-102 if required, as some of the concepts are similar. I took this course while working full-time, though I worked extremely hard. Do not think this class is too laid back. You must study.
Her lectures are incredibly detailed and her tests are all based on her worksheets/review so she's honestly a good professor imo. She's not that good at answering questions though so just go to the tutors for questions. You'll probably do fine if you dedicate all your free time to this class.
Testing (semester includes pre/post chapter + lab quizzes 3 exams) and new chapter every week. Important to use your resources, not fall behind, and spend LOTS of time mastering the material. Spent at least 8 hours a week watching lecture/studying/homework. Difficult to balance with other STEM classes but doable. Very nice and caring professor.
I loved taking Dr. Ganguly's Chem-109 class, her online lectures were detailed and easy to follow, and her labs were interactive and informative! I was working 32 hrs a week while taking her class and I was able to manage taking notes and studying for her tests.
im in 112a and ganguly HAS favorites and is very biased. She shamelessly calls out and hates on students she doesn't like. every day in her class is hell because of how much she targets me. she treats people very differently based on who they are. hates when people ask questions. insane quizzes. tests not as bad.
Very caring a fair teacher. But tough subject. need lot of time
The professor excels in explaining lectures and leading labs, demonstrating strong dedication to her students. She simplifies complex topics, provides clear notes, and offers extra credit. Her engaging style and approachability make her highly recommended for impactful teaching. Outside class. Highly recommended for her impactful teaching.
I'm not exaggerating: you really NEED 20–30 hrs/week for this class. I practiced nonstop, reviewed reactions daily, and still got my first non-A after a 4.0 GPA. If you can, take it at another school. It's brutal. Don't overload your schedule!
This class requires a serious amount of time dedicated to it. Going to tutoring after school and practicing mechanisms over and over until you truly understand each one is mandatory. You have to be available at least 20 hours a week to succeed. Every concept needs to be understood in its entirety as the class builds on itself after chapter 6.
Orgo takes way more time than most expect. Spent 30 hours weekly, practiced hw for endless hours, and reviewed reactions daily to keep them fresh. With online lectures, I had to stay disciplined. After not doing the best in 112A, I knew I had to step up; constant practice and review is key. Online homework can be very tedious!
112A&B aren't hard as you thought, but it requires 20-30 hours per week to watch lecture videos, practice worksheets and take notes. Pre-chapter and lab quizzes are taken on canvas, and the writing quizzes are tested your understanding of lecture. Exams, writing quizzes are straightforward since the questions are from the slides and the worksheets.
I spent ~4 hours preparing for the prequizzes, but I didn't keep it up for the quiz content which tanked my grade. They're based off of the in-class worksheet problems; it's so important to practice each question the way she does them in class. Even if you don't understand it, just copy the steps over and over. Spend as much time on ch6+ as you can
Students must put in the work to do well. It requires listening to lecture, writing good notes, and taking the time to understand the content (I used daily flashcards and the worksheets). The concepts you learn aren't too complicated and you have access to tutors and the professor. The class is fair, but rigorous and I feel prepared for the MCAT.
Opens opportunities to careers such as bio tech, nursing, etc. The class was manageable and Mrs. Ganguly's lecture make it easy to study! the class has 2 exams, 2 lab exams, and 1 quiz every 1-2 weeks! The class is very test/quiz heavy, so make sure to be on top in terms of studying! Professor Ganguly was caring and easy to talk to! I reccomend!
I highly recommend this professor! Orgo is a difficult course and the drop rate is high, but if you follow Dr. Ganguly's instructions and commit to hours of handwritten practice, you will do well. Homework and lab reports are an insignificant portion of the grade, so don't expect any sort of "grade buffer." Time commitment is the key to success.
I took CHEM-109 with Prof. Gaguly. Lectures were online and really understandable and easy to follow, and labs met once a week. Assignments and quizzes were easy to follow if you reviewed her slides. Exams were based on quizzes and slides too. Very manageable class if you stay on top of the material and put in effort.
The class is straightforward but it's super test heavy and requires a lot of time (20-30hrs/wk). Every wk, u have quizzes and ch tests as well as the 3 exams and final. Prof is an amazing teacher, but you have to put in a lot of work and time to understand the material! Def would recommend but try to take if u don't have a lot of other commitments!
Professor Ganguly is a very caring professor and is willing to help all of her students succeed in her course. Her class is very test heavy, with a large portion of the grade depending on exams and biweekly quizzes. However, if you take the time to take notes on the lectures and complete the test questions she posts in the module, you will do well!
Two years after taking this class, I graduated with a 4.0 from UCLA and am a research assistant at UCSF, only thanks to Dr. Ganguly and the invaluable skills I learned in this class. Having a strong foundation in o-chem saved me as a biochem major. She has further supported me unconditionally in my academic and professional journey. Truly a gem!
Prof. Ganguly is careless in grading and incoherent in her teaching style. The online lectures are poorly produced and often contain mistakes. While she does care for her students, most textbooks cover organic chemistry more comprehensively than her instruction can provide.
The class is super overwhelming and strict and test-heavy, mostly worksheets with little hands-on lab time. Prof G is nice but strict and we'd often stay the whole lab and sometimes even have to come early. Many students drop and it's honestly the hardest and most overwhelming class I've taken.
Terrible teaching quality; makes up her own reviews on RMP with ai.
this class no bueno man
Teaching is subpar
hardest class Ive ever taken we'd get multiple quizzes in a day on different chapters as well definitely not recommend
Trust me you need at least 20-30 hours a week to study for this class to pass, and sometimes even that won't be enough take it somewhere else if you can.
She tries to be helpful for students but her class is so quiz and test heavy like 2-3 quizzes every monday and some on the lab days that it becomes impossible to master any topic since there are so many quizzes on unrelated topics each day. Theres a reason half the class drops every drop date despite studying. If you do bad on 1 quiz youre cooked.
The class is HARD. You need strong grade like A+ in previous general chemistry class, to do well in this organic chemistry class. The lecture videos and instruction is very good. If you spend 40-50 hours a week, then you will pass. Dr. Ganguly is there 24 hours a day to help. Super teacher but very hard course.
This course is for Chemistry majors. Toughest course. You need good grade in general chemistry before you take Chem 112A. One of the hardest courses. Students who put in 40 hours a week, got B or some A. Students drop as they dont study 40 hour a week. Very good teacher, good detailed lecture videos, but still course very difficult to pass.
Great professor who really explains concepts well. The exams aren't too hard as long as you focus on the worksheets and review sheets—those are key. Be prepared to work hard, though; I spent about 18 hours a week studying outside of class. It's a challenging course, but doable. Good luck!
imo u dont need to be amazing at gen chem to pass ochem (i got Bs both sems in gen chem). lecture vids are mid, but u gotta watch bc her mcq come from there n she mentions things not in textbook. Stressful, multiple small quizzes a week. i didnt go outside for weeks, kinda miss who i was before ochem :/ u also need to study 15-20 hrs/wk to pass
dont let quiz scores intimidate u, exam class averages are usually As.
Tough class. Cramming days before exams/quizzes can lead to loss in points; everything said in the lecture should be learnt (even minor concepts) if aiming for highest points. Studying multiple hours a day (20 hours a week) is the only way to cement your knowledge on topics. Daily perseverance in other classes isn't enough for this one. Good luck.
Professor's lecture videos are highly important and make sure you study thoroughly before class because when you do problems in class, it is application of concept from lectures. Her review sheets are super and practice all worksheets and HW problems!! Practice is key for this class. Professor really supports and cares about her students' success.
This class is manageable (took BIOL102 at the same time) and can be an easy A if you take good notes. Online lecture slides cover everything for the quizzes (every 1-2 wks) and exams (2+final). Stay on top of the material, and all you have to do before each test is review your notes & do the practice questions on Canvas. There are also 2 lab exams.
You need to memorize everything from her lecture videos. Everything. Watch them and take notes for pre-chap quizzes, and then do every problem from her slides/review worksheet several times for formal quizzes. Rewatch the lecture videos again for exams and make sure you understand all concepts. She's nice and helpful if you have any questions!
Very challenging course compared to GenChem. Watch lecture videos and write down the reactions in a notebook so that you can memorize them better before your chapter quizzes. They are the most likely to bring your grade down since exams are easier in comparison. She's a very caring professor, so don't be afraid to reach out. Best of luck!
I found it straightforward to learn the Chem-109 material from the slides while referencing lecture videos, practice problems, and the text as needed for harder topics. With my busy schedule, I appreciated not spending as many hours on lectures/busywork as I would in other classes, but still having weekly in-person classes and learning resources.
Class was very time consuming. She's not the greatest at explaining things, so the tutors are going to be the most helpful. Quizzes are more difficult than exams, homework isn't worth very much. You have to write down everything from her lectures and memorize absolutely everything.
