Read the Book and he will help you. You shouldnt be in this class if you are not willing to put an effort in.
Not a horrible guy. He's nice. I just didn't really like his lectures. He tended to have a lot of pictures and didn't do out any examples himself. He would just show pictures of questions out of the book and talk about it. You won't hate him, but you have to teach the bulk problem solving to yourself.
Not the worst guy. He just mostly shows pictures in his powerpoints from offline and doesn't do out any problems in class for you. So you're kind of left to learn how to do problems yourself simply given the equations to use.
Took 2443 and 2444 with him. Definitely go to lecture with slides printed out, need to do alot of studying outside of lecture to do well. exams are very difficult. he is willing to help if you go to his office hours, nice, would only recommend him to motivated students
Anwar's awesome. Read the book and go to office hours and you'll do fine.
I liked Anwar he did a good job explaining the concepts. He held a lot of out of class reviews before tests which we really helpful.
He is so nice and hardworking proffesor I have ever know. If you want to know much about the subject, please take class with him. hi is awesome.
Anwar's the man. His tests were exactly like the practice tests and he's very approachable if you need help. Just pay attention in lecture and you'll do fine.
Very difficult grader. Doesn't give partial credit or go over problems. Lab grade depends on the strictness of the TA, no standardized way of grading labs.
Dr. Beshir is a very approachable and nice professor. He is a hard grader on exams and questions are not always what you expect, even though he tells you what to study, kind of. Lab is interesting but stressful at times. Your grade depends on your TA or how much time you want to put into your lab reports. The entire class is a LOT of work.
Dont skip lecture he will give pop quizzes. Each lab is worth dif amnt. Didnt tell us that the last lab counts as a practical. The syllabus will say that quizzes r 10 pts each, but that will alter. He gave us quiz on HNMR (50 pts) but we did "too well" & he gave another pop quiz. He asks questions in lecture, but does not give answers if no 1 talks
Anwar is super adorable! He really loves what he teaches, and I always enjoyed going to class (even when it was at 8 am). He honestly made Organic chem easy to understand, and I would not have done so well if it wasnt for him!
Beshir was a great professor! His class is definitely challenging though. Just meet with him often and try the problems in the book and you're golden.
Lecture is fairly clear, but exam questions can sometimes be from material that was not necessarily covered in lecture. He will ask questions in lecture but not give an answer and just say okay figure out what the answer is I will test you on it. The lab difficulty really depends on the TA, if they're mean you will have more work.
Go to office hours! Exam reviews were mostly helpful but sometimes didn't cover the right stuff. Study the powerpounts. 2 out of 4 exams were very hard.
So glad I took orgo with Beshir. Very good teacher, helpful to students, held reviews prior to exams that told you exactly what you needed to know. I didn't dread going to class at 8 a.m. Just keep up with lecture, go to his reviews, and do the suggested book problems. Curves somewhat generously at end of semester.
good guy and fair grader. highly recommend
If you attend lecture and go to his office hours this course is not bad at all. He is very fair and his reviews are lifesavers. Overall an amazing professor for orgo but in order to succeed you have to put in the time and effort.
Best professor I have had at uconn. Go to his office hours, he is very approachable and provides clear explanations.
Had beshir for orgo lab, found this class to be pretty difficult. Amount of material is a lot and tests were graded hard, However beshir himself is very understanding and very approachable. Any questions about graded tests, material etc is not an issue at all!
The class is hard by nature (there's no easy way to do organic chemistry) but Beshir does his best to simplify things and boost grades. In our lecture he dropped the lowest exam, gave an extra quiz to replace the lowest and if you didn't get a 100 on the assignment you got the option of doing it over. Don't buy the modeling kit, no one used it.
Beshir is a helpful professor. He really makes sure that you get the best grade that you can get. His test review sessions are extremely helpful so make sure you attend those. I thought I was going to end up with a C in the class but he bumped it up to a B- which was awesome
Seriously, no class will be hard or time consuming after this class. 8hrs of class a week & to get an A on lab reports, about 8 hrs/lab. His lab rubric is very strict and I had a strict TA. You have to spend the time and write everything. Ask your TA what he/she is looking for. Grades for exam were low because partial credit is nonexistent.
Beshir is the best professor I have had here at UCONN. I went to most of the lectures, the review sessions, and bought the class notes. I didn't buy the textbook. He is extremely helpful in and out of class. Just go to class, the exam reviews, the weekly review sessions, and study a bit before the exams and quizzes and you will get an A.
Anwar is great, the material is hard, I think he average in our class was a 68, but he curves. He's one of the most available professors I've ever had, if you go to his office hours you can definitely get an A, I did and I got a C in gen. chem. He's a great professor and does as much as he can. If you have to take orgo, take it with him
Dont buy the book. Notebook though is necessary otherwise you will fall behind on the notes in class, though the notes do get hard to follow. Just study off of review session and class examples. got C+ and B- in gen chem but got a B in this, go figure. Beshir is so nice... deff go to review sessions and office hours they help so much. Put effort in
Dr. Beshir was the best chemistry professor I have had at UConn. Go to every class because he explains things so well and is aways ready to take questions and break things down for you. Don't need to read the book but deff do the assigned practice problems because Beshir will usually have one or two tricky questions on exam. A is deff attainable.
This class is so time consuming. Try to get access to past exams. Beshir is pretty decent at explaining stuff when you go to office hours. But most important get Don as your TA. He makes your life so much easier (5 star TA)! There is basically no partial credit for exams and it's hard to study so lab reports are important. Know every single detail.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He does literally everything he possibly can for the student. Extra credit, help, review sessions every week, etc. He's a beast!
You won't find a more dedicated professor anywhere.
This class...is very hard. 2nd exam average was a 60 and only 3 folks got 90s(class size about 130). According to him that was an "easy" exam. Partial credit does not exist. He said he might deduct points from lab sections in the future. Just know...everything. He's nice in office hours though. Whoever is taking it after me, good luck!
prof. beshir is the best. he offers extra cred, reviews & is very willing to meet with students by appt. put in the time and go to ALL review sessions and lectures- because of that i barely had to do hardcore studying. book not req. but the class lecture notes is a must. i did terrible in gen chem but got an A in this class, even before the curve.
If you have to take orgo, take it with Beshir! It's a hard class but he puts in a lot of effort. Go to all the lectures and ESPECIALLY the review sessions, those saved my grade. He also drops the lowest exam grade usually and gives practice exams. Best professor I've had at UConn by far
Beshir is actually a really good teacher, but his exams are really tough. He had to curve a midterm 20 points so that the class average was a 73. However, he is more than willing to help his students, and offers review sessions that are really helpful. Just the exams that are a bit tricky though...
Best professor I've had at UConn. He is so helpful and explains everything very clearly. Each week he holds a review session on Fridays, as well as an additional review session before each exam. The book is not necessary unless you want to do practice problems. Take this class with Beshir!!
Class average for a midterm was a 53, and class average for the final was a 65. He's a good teacher, but as you can see, the class is extremely hard. He holds review sessions that makes you think you know the material - until you see his tests...
He is a wonderful person and a professor. However, his class is very hard to do well in. You really have to invest a lot of time into the course to get an A. He tries to help you in every way possible, so take advantage of every opportunity. Highly recommended, but be wary of his tricky exams.
Beshir is a very good professor because of his willingness to help students both inside and outside the class. He makes himself very available and it almost impossible to have an excuse not to do well. My only disappointment was with the last 3 weeks where the material was rushed through. The difficulty of last exam was a surprise as well.
Such a nice man. He wants you to do well, but you need to put the work in to get a good grade. Not an easy class, but a great professor.
the best professor i've had at Uconn! so professional, helpful, and nice yet demands a lot out of his students. go to him for extra help and he'll help you out a ton.
Beshir is a fantastic professor. I was very worried going into this class knowing I am terrible at chemistry, however he is very helpful and very clear in lecture. He makes himself available as much as he can and is always happy to help. He is trying to teach a solid understanding of general chem so that you will succeed in higher level chemistry.
Beshir is very kind- he tries to help students as much as possible by either dropping bad tests or giving extra credit. Take advantage of review sessions, you learn more there than in lecture. He covers things very quickly in lecture since this is accelerated, it's hard to keep up. Study a lot, go to review, get help, and you might be okay.
Dr. Beshir was by far the best professor I've had. He goes out of his way to help his students. I HIGHLY recommend going to the Friday review sessions even if you feel like you understand the material. The packets he gives you are helpful study tools for exams-especially the final. Don't hesitate to go to office hours if you need help!
Dr. Bashir is an examplem of the prime professor. He is an amazing instructor, and makes a difficult and dreaded subject (organic chemistry) understandable and passable. He goes out of his way to ensure success for his students. He provides extra credit for those who keep up with the materials (as incentive to do so) and offers so much extra help.
Dr. Beshir is such a good professor. Attending the class is essential. He is amazing at explaining and teaching, so make sure to sit in the front. He will give extra credit questions randomly during class and it will help you boost your grade. Also, he will curve tests ranging from 5-20 points depending on the class average. Easy "A"
BEST professor I've had at UConn. Very approachable in office hours and really gives opportunities to understand the topic. Utilize every option he gives to learn the subject, and you will pass with flying colors. Definitely recommend taking his class. Dr. Beshir is the best.
Dr. Beshir is a MUST for CHEM 2241. Even though office hours are not mandatory you should go to them because he gives excellent practice problems that correlate to questions on the exam. He does give extra credit and will curve the final grade but that doesn't mean you can be lazy. One out of three exams was dropped along with lowest quiz. Love him
The course is very difficult I'm not gonna lie, but if you put in the effort, study, and go for extra help you will pass. I took this course over the summer and I'm so glad I did. Beshir will physically not let you fail; he really cares about his students success. A very cool guy with a personality and obviously a big heart. Thank you Beshir!
Beshir is amazing. The best science professor at uconn. While the class is not a breeze, I found it much easier than gen chem and beshir is a much better teacher. He is always available for extra help i swear he lives in his office. Gives tons of extra credit. he really wants you to do well which is definitely uplifting. cool guy. super super nice
Hard class to begin with but he makes it even worse than it should be. He holds "optional reviews" every week outside of class time but he actually teaches new material so if you don't go you're screwed. Some new topics on test that have not all been taught in class (OR REVIEW). Plus even what he does teach he puts harder versions on exams
Go to class because he will randomly give extra credit worksheets to do in class! He ended up curving and offering a lot of points back on exams so overall fairly easy to do well in class.
If you have to take orgo, take it with Beshir!! He does whatever he can to help you pass. 3 exams plus a final but usually ends up dropping lowest exam (and he curves them all) quizzes once a week, but drops 2 of those, and if you go to class they arn't too bad. He is always available to help if you need it. I failed 2/3 exams and ended with a B.
Beshir is an AMAZING orgo professor. He is always there to help you and explains everything so that you can understand it. His Friday reviews are essential to go to, so make sure you do (that's how I am getting an A). Overall, would definitely recommend to anyone for a class!
Beshir is the best science professor I've had at UConn! Orgo isn't easy, but he is so clear on his expectations on exams and quizzes that if you go to class and the Friday review sessions you will do well. He is always available and truly wants his students to succeed. He takes note of who seeks out help, so make an effort to go to office hours!
Dr. Beshir is by far the most amazing professor I have ever had at UConn. I was extremely nervous for orgo but he made it extremely easy. He explains everything so clear and really simplifies it that I actually loved taking this class. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well. Go to his office hours it helps plus he takes notice!
Dr. Beshir is one of my favorite professors at Uconn. He is a true teacher who really cares about his students. I once emailed him at night after being in the hospital and he got back to me at 11:30 PM to tell me he would help catch me up. You must attend class and review sessions as he provides problem sets which lead to extra credit.
Must go to class, weekly reviews help so much. Beshir is so nice and willing to help, he wants to see his students learn. Office hours are so helpful. Tough material but he is the best chem professor at uconn.
I was fortunate to have a close relationship with Dr. Beshir, and he is wonderful. He doesn't have TA's for his review sessions, which means any questions get answered by the test creator himself. Weekly quizzes on Wednesday's except on the week of the midterm (there are 3).Hw is pretty easy, and if you pay attention in class, you can get an A.
Dr. Beshir is a phenomenal professor and if you can take orgo with him you should. He makes it his mission to get his students the best grade possible, between extra credit, extensions on homework, and changing assignments so that students do better. 3 major exams and a quiz weekly in lecture, also gives extra credit. Go to review it helps a lot
BEST PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER HAVE! Although lectures can be confusing, he is the nicest and best professor will be spend hours with you explaining everything! GO TO HIM FOR HELP! Also, his tests are really easy if you go to the weekly review sessions and do well on the quizzes. LOVED HIS CLASS AND WOULD TALK IT EVERY SEMESTER IF I COULD! AMAZING!
Professor Beshir is the best professor you can take for org1. He really cares about his students, he is always in his office available for questions. Wish he was teaching orgo 2. He curved all of the exams based on the class average, and gives extra credit sheets. take it with him!!!
Beshir is a great professor! offers extra credit and on top of that curves each exam and he offers weekly reviews. I highly recommend you attend them because they are so helpful for the weekly quizzes and exams. i would recommend taking Orgo with him!!
Orgo is not an easy class point blank. This is a condensed version and moves fast, you have to attend lecture because teaching it to yourself takes 10x longer and there are weekly quizzes. I did badly because I fell behind. Beshir is a good professor, always willing to help during office hours and will drop quizzes/tests/add extra credit.
It is very easy to get an A in this class as long as you put in the time and effort. I would highly recommend reviewing the material daily, reading the book, and doing the assigned practice problems to ensure the understanding of the material. Dr. Beshir is also kind enough to drop the lowest quiz and exam grade, as well as curve each exam.
You definitely have to put in the time to study and practice the material taught in class. Having that said, Professor Beshir does an amazing job teaching the material and he is always available to help out students with concepts they don't understand. He also gives a ton of extra credit and really focuses on and cares for his students
Beshir goes out of his way to challenge students. If he asks a question in lecture that nobody can answer, he will not take the time to explain it- but he will put it on his tests. Orgo is already difficult, and he does not make it any easier. Averages on exams this semester have been 60s. Hardest class I've ever taken.
Beshir's exams are difficult and his grading is far from lenient. However, he is a very good professor in that he really wants his students to understand concepts and his lectures are extremely helpful. He cares more about your learning than your grade, but still offers EC. I understand orgo far better than my friends taking other professors.
He doesn't provide much practice to understand the reactions like he wants you to except for his review sessions which, if you commute and work, can be very hard to attend. He provides text problems, but wont provide answers or grade them. The text book is dry and unclear and does not supplement lectures well. Go to every class and rent out Klein.
Read the book to understand Orgo, it is very helpful. The weekly quizzes are 20% and can ruin your grade! The class average is always 60%. He does not have the interest to teach, he hides his knowledge and expects you to be a chemist. Stay away from this guy, he doesn't know how to teach at all! I regret I took this class with him. I taught myself!
Beshir is HARD, but Orgo is supposed to be hard, so I guess it is understandable. He wants you to succeed and gives you ways to succeed, such as his pop quizzes which are only for extra credit. He's hard to access for office hours due to high demand but if you go to lecture, study everyday, and go to his weekly review sessions, you will do fine.
Great professor, only thing that sucks is his grading. You need to get the question 100% correct in order to get credit, no partial credit. Material overall is tricky but if you go to his weekly reviews and take notes in class you should do fine.
Dr. Beshir is a great professor. It's clear that he wants his students to do well. He cares more about learning that grades. Class averages were usually around the 60's, so the class is obviously difficult, but he does give extra credit and test corrections. Be sure to stay on top of the material every week bc the weekly quizzes can be a pain.
Dr. Beshir gave a lot of extra credit and was always available outside of class for additional help. It was clear that he cared a lot about students and us doing well. Exams were never tricky and he gave us everything needed to do well. Attend weekly reviews because they help you a TON!!! Dedicate the time and you will do really well.
Beshir is a good professor for chem 2241. you can tell he really cares for his students and he values learning & hardwork. he holds weekly review sessions outside of class which cover everything u need to know plus exam reviews. he allows you to redo your mistakes on the exam and curves your exam grade. Textbook was not helpful. Overall, nice guy.
Beshir's teaching style works for CHEM 2441, but does NOT complement the material in orgo lab. His objectives are unorganized, doesn't answer questions adequately or doesn't answer them at all, creates exams that should be given in a 2 hr period in a 50 min period, and is condescending to students. Only redeeming quality about this class is the EC.
This was one of the absolute worst classes I have taken. The professor's lectures do not correspond well to exams and he does not give any partial credit for 5 point questions. You could literally write the right structure and still get 0/5 points, missing one bond?-0/5 points, forget to write an optional hydrogen?-0/5 points. This class is a 0/5.
Exams: Partial credit almost nonexistent, asks questions on material that is not covered in class, does not give enough time, grading is inconsistent between students. Lab: Most people lie about their yields so you're graded based on lies. Lost letter grade for truth on some labs, even though actual yields same as rest of class. Avoid if you can
Out of the entire lecture, I was the only freshman taking the course, since the first day this professor has been nothing but helpful to me. The exams at 8 am suck, but doable. You have to go to every lecture because at least once a week there's a quiz. He does offer a lot of extra credit, esp if you go to all his office hours
Dr. Beshir is one of the best CHEM profs at UConn and one of my favorite profs. He is a great teacher and very patient. Office hours, weekly review sessions, and class ex. problems VERY HELPFUL- exam qs are like review session qs. Weekly quizzes. Felt prepared for exams. MUST PUT IN TIME AND EFFORT. Learned a lot from this class. Highly recommend.
prob the best teacher for orgo 1. he is patient, caring, and makes sure you learn the material. he is a great teacher and does a lot of supplemental instruction for her students. make sure you go to office hours, weekly reviews and SI session. he explains things very well. there are weekly quizzes- make sure you study! time and effort success!!
Beshir is truly an amazing professor. His lectures make everything easy to understand and his methods to encourage students to study. Weekly quizzes aren't too bad and make you learned the material. Also lets you correct exams and curves the final grade a bit. The only complaint is his exams are a lot harder than necessary.
Do NOT buy the textbook, model kit, or lecture notes; you will not use/need them. Professor Beshir's lectures are only worth going to for the quizzes. He sounds like a robot and does not teach you the concepts you need for his exams. The reviews are technically optional, but really are not if you want to do well. My advice: do practice problems.
Very hard class. I'm writing that coming away from the class with an A, he must have curved massively. Exams are extremely hard and most of the problems are different from what's done in class. He makes up for it with test corrections and extra credit though. Weekly review (thurs. nights) mind as well be mandatory as it is extremely helpful
Professor Beshir will help you master orgo if you do your part. Study often, go to class & reviews. He's always available to meet for extra help. The material is challenging and exams are hard, but that is expected for the difficult subject. With extra credit and curving, Beshir ensures that if you put in the work you will do well in the course.
Lectures move quickly and there are weekly quizzes so staying on top of the material is the most important thing. Still, orgo is hard and exams will be tough. Beshir offers extra credit and does a lot to help grades. Definitely a great orgo professor but this class still requires a ton of work in order to do well.
Very approachable and nice in office hours. Has weekly review sessions in the evening (low-key mandatory) Quizzes are extremely similar to review session examples. Exams are HARD in the sense that you may know all the material, but he will present it in a way that is unfamiliar to you. Our final grades were definitely curved (half letter grade)
Beshir explains everything in a clear, easy to understand way. His exams are moderately difficult, but he gives credit bad for test corrections, so exam averages are pretty good.
This is a hard class, but Professor Beshir will tke the time to help you. Make sure you to his weekly pratice sessions. I also recommend putting alot of effort into the weely quizes to ballance out your exam grades.
Beshir is really big on extra credit. Lectures are at 8am, but go to them because he gives pop-quizzes that can raise your grade by 2%. He also gives post-exam quizzes that can earn you up to 40% of points lost on the exams... 80 people failed the second exam, but with his "curve" you can still get an A or A- as long as you do well in lab.
He explains the material very clearly and thoroughly. Go to office hours with your questions ready as often as you can; he helps you more if he sees you're trying. Don't skip class. Review the material as you go instead of cramming. Do any/ all extra credit opportunities. Participate in class. Beshir truly is a great, caring professor.
Beshir's exams are fairly tough but he is big on extra credit, which can raise your grade up to 5%, and test corrections, which can give you back 40% of your points lost. That being said, he is pretty good at explaining concepts clearly so I would say going to lecture is a must. You should definitely practice in the textbook after a class topic tho
Hardest course I have ever taken in my entire academic life. But Beshir is by far one of the best, if not THE best orgo professor you'll find at UConn. He dedicates SO much of his time outside of class giving extra help. Oh, and DEFINITELY ATTEND ALL OF HIS REVIEW SESSIONS. They will save your grade. Sapling is trash. Prepare to be consumed by orgo
Beshir offers not only a TON of extra credit, but also a lot of outside help (office hours). He definitely wants to see you succeed. With that being said, his tests and weekly quizzes are extremely difficult. I would suggest going to every single lecture and weekly review. Be prepared to dedicate a lot of outside time to this class.
He is a gem and cares about teaching, and the best prof for orgo 1. His tests are really hard and weekly reviews aren't optional if you want to do well in the course. Study for weekly quizzes cause they add up. Orgo is hard, but if you put in the long hours, it will be ok. If you put the time and effort, Beshir will make you an Orgo god.
You have to go to review sessions each week or you will have a difficult time grasping the concepts. This was a hard class but Dr. Beshir was fair and is the hardest working professor I have ever met.
Dr. Beshir is very fair and understanding. He offers a bunch of extra credit. The exams are difficult so attend his weekly review sessions and go to his office hours. HW, weekly quizzes, and adaptive quizzes on Sapling add up so try hard on them! If you dedicate a lot of time to this class, you'll do well.
Tests are HARD. Very. But if the average is lower he will give test corrections. Also many opportunities for extra credit. He teaches pretty well, and is very understanding which I value highly in a professor.
I had Beshire for CHEM2443 and it was AWFUL. border-line failing the entire class. surprisingly, he was much more clear in his lectures for this class. discussions weren't painful, but were informative. lectures recorded and posted. makes you take exams and do lab on WebEx. quizzes once a week (if you're late, you get a 0). exams are difficult.
Willing to put in work to make sure students understand the material, very accessible outside of class, and goes above and beyond to make sure you are learning. very helpful grade boosters as well as weekly discussion. good at explaining tough orgo concepts. If you utilize all of his study guides, worksheets, and weekly quizzes, hard to do bad
Webex discussion was the lecture, but no recordings or ppts were ever posted. Used BeyondLabz for lab section which was surprisingly really nice and easy to use. He was very accessible to students and gave lots of extra credit to make up for poor exam/quiz scores, but was very confusing at times and exam 2 and the final seemed unreasonably hard.
Professor Beshir is a really great orgo professor. The only frustrating part was not being able to access answers to the study guide or worksheets.. That being said, he does have office hours and weekly review sessions and is really accessible. His review sessions are mandatory if you want to do wellhe gives us questions that are similar to exams.
Dr. Beshir is one of the best professors I have had at UConn. He goes out of his way to help you understand content and is always willing to meet for office hours as long as you make the effort. The content is difficult and it is important to go to lecture, but you can earn a good grade if you dedicate the time to learning organic chemistry.
I WISH I COULD HAVE HAD PROFESSOR BESHIR FOR LECTURE. I was only able to take his online lab course but he was absolutely amazing. He gives so many extra credit opportunities, the labs are easy online, and his lectures are super informative. He is always available for extra help. The quizzes were difficult so be sure to study the lectures and lab.
pros: gave a lot of extra credit, was willing to drop quizzes and tests, retakes, things to boost grade cons: does not respond to emails, doesnt seem to be very understanding of the students needs, some lectures were gone through too quickly and students struggled, didnt always post important materials
Make sure to attend class for the pop-quiz extra credit. That was the sole reason I got an A in this class. Exams are very hard... I barely passed the final exam and it was not curved. The lab portion is nice online and labs were graded leniently. I wish lecture was recorded and posted so students could refer back to them!
Go to class for extra credit. I don't deserve the grade I ended up with because I calculated my original grade to be a B. I think he hardcore curved everyone's grade. His teaching style is very manageable. He cares and wants everyone to pass. Though he sucks at replying to emails, he will eventually. His examples will reappear on exams/quizzes.
Beshir really tried to teach us and honestly, I would have done a lot worse if he didn't give us the extra credit. The averages for his exams were very low so he gave us test corrections. One bad thing is that his due dates and times were very weird so I missed a couple of assignments. You have to pay close attention and set reminders.
Beshir is great. His exams are very difficult but he works with you and its very possible to get an A if you try, especially b/w lab and other work. Online lab is extremely doable and used a neat program. I had a wonderful TA, so ask them questions! Beshir helps a lot with extra credit as well.
Beshir is a sweetheart. The tests are actually doable and the questions are very fair if you go over all examples from lecture, weekly review, study guides, worksheets and homework. He said himself that he won't give you any question type on the test that you haven't seen before. If you put in work everyday, you should get an A in the class easily.
Beshir tries to inspire you to learn organic chemisty in a more flexible way. Make sure you go to classes and review sessions because many of the exam questions are similar to his examples. He gives extra credits for quizzes and exams.
Dr. Beshir care about his students, and goes above and beyond to help you succeed in a tough class. The grading criteria gives you plenty of opportunities if you are not a good test taker. His lectures are very clear, and his exams are fair. Attend lecture, use the resources he provides, and you will get an A. A tough class, but he makes it doable.
Class is 16 lab reports, 8 quizzes, 2 exams, problem set, practical, & a final. If you want to do well you need to attend his discussion sections where he goes over the upcoming lab. Exams are hard & quizzes can be tricky. He promised the class EC but changed his mind after the exam, which was annoying. Only take this lab if your major requires it.
Dr. Beshir has office hours that help clarify the material. The exams & quizzes can be difficult, but if you take good lecture notes and try to attend office hours with questions, you have a good chance of passing this class. He really tries to help you understand, of course after you have tried the problems yourself first. Find a good study group!
Dr. Beshir is one of the best professors I've had at UConn so far. He makes everything really straightforward, in my opinion - if you take diligent notes and then practice the problems offered in class, you will be very well prepared for the exams. He's also really, really nice, and always does things to help boost our grade. Really awesome guy.
As a senior, Dr. Beshir is the best professor I've had at UConn. He makes things very clear in lecture of what is expected on quizzes, labs, and exams. He also gives a ton of opportunities to boost your grade. Also very helpful with office hours. He made this class an easy A when it is thought of as a very stressful class.
Dr. Beshir has been a very understanding professor during online learning. He is one of the nicest and well-versed professors I have ever had. He gives multiple opportunities to improve your grade with exam corrections, extra credit options, and more. I would highly recommend him to those wanting to be introduced to organic chemistry.
Beshir is one of the best professors at UConn. He makes orgo as bearable as possible in the way that he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and ways to boost your grade. He is very understanding and has office hours that you should definitely take advantage of. He also has weekly review sessions and study guides that help with the exam.
Beshir presented Orgo 1 and Orgo 2 lectures in a very clear way. He is a phenomenal lecturer. Online lab was very doable, but exams and quizzes were difficult. Beshir, held 4 office hours for the week for this class so take advantage of this time. Also, EC was offered randomly in lecture so be sure to attend. Would highly recommend!
tests and quizzes were difficult, sometimes just unnecessarily difficult, pre lab quizzes didnt always match lecture materials, tests were more difficult than anything talked about during lecture
So thankful I had Dr. Beshir. He is a tough grader and his exams and quizzes are nothing close to easy, but he gives you ample chances to improve your grade and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. He is a little tough to reach via email but he has so many office hours and weekly reviews which give you a chance to connect with him.
honestly, a great dude. taught me a lot, and is very caring. easy class, make pledges do your hw and take notes.
He is an absolute ANGEL! Let us correct our exams, do quizzes comprised of questions similar to the exam problems we all got wrong to get points back, and his lecture material reflect the homework and quiz/exams. There's a lot of chances to improve your grade. Also, he cares and has awesome vibes.
Dr. Beshir is great and one of my favorite professors at UConn. He makes it so easy to meet with him outside of class for review sessions, office hours&1-on-1 meetings to solidify concepts. Gives so many chances to improve your grade and although quizzes/exams definitely aren't easy it is very doable with Beshir's teaching. def take orgo with him!!
I had Dr. Beshir during COVID for 2241 and now I have him for lab for 2242 and he is the best! He is always willing to meet with you outside of class if you are having trouble understanding the material and actually show an effort. He was so accommodating during COVID and really tries to make both the class and the lab easy for his students.
Apparently there's something going on with him this semester. One of the TA's talked to us about it. But the average exam grade so far before corrections was in the 50's and after was low 70's. I love the way he teaches, he makes you understand it immediately. But, he hits you with these curve balls on the exams (at least in my experience).
Dr. Beshir is literally one of the best professors I've had. He's so nice and understands that this class is hard and does everything he can to help you because he doesn't want anyone to fail. I'm so glad I took this class with him or else I wouldn't have survived! Take it with him, you will NOT regret it.
Beshir is a very nice professor who truly wants his students to learn. That being said, you have to work for your grade and put in the effort. He offers office hours that I highly recommend utilizing and he actually explains it until you understand during his office hours. May seem intimidating but is very nice.
I loved Dr. Beshir and thought he did a great job making a hard topic understandable. While his tests were a bit difficult, he gave extra credit so in all evened out. He held weekly review sessions that were extremely helpful. Definitely take orgo with Beshir.
To be fair, I'm not great at chemistry. But, even my TAs said he was off his rocker this semester. He did let us do exam corrections and had extra credit but exams were difficult and lecture went SO fast (1-2 chapters per lecture) with videos you're supposed to watch before too. 3 exams, weekly quizzes, cumulative final.
Luckily I had an amazing TA for the lab portion. Lab reports are super easy and we all always got almost perfect scores which helps your grade. Discussion is 50 minutes of dense lecture and he goes so quick with random sketching on the board. Hard to take notes. Gives good ec to boost grade though. Understood more than normal orgo. Mildly enjoyed.
Dr. Beshir is simply the best. He truly cares and wants his students to do well. Orgo is tough, but take it with him and you will walk out having learned a lot. Got a 68 on the first exam, but he provides many opportunities to raise your grade. Went to office hours after each class and his weekly review sessions, which were super helpful.
I am trash at orgo and without Dr. Beshir, I easily would have failed. After going to office hours every week and meeting with him and going to the weekly review session, I was able to get my grade up enough to pass. Exams are worth only a little bit more than HW and weekly quizzes. If you have to take orgo, take Beshir.
Dr. Beshir is an amazing professor. He is a great lecturer who truly cares about his students. Show up to every class! He gives multiple opportunities for extra credit and allows us to gain a good portion of the points lost on the exam. But he does make you work for it. Orgo is hard but he does his best to make it less stressful for his students.
Dr. Beshir is an absolute gem. Orgo isn't gonna be easy no matter who you take it with, but Beshir was easily one of the most fair professors I've had. Go to his office hours, he takes a lot of time to clarify everything there and will hint at exam questions. Also gave us tons of chances to boost our grade with extra credit throughout the semester!
Love this dude. One of the fairest and genuine professors I've ever had. Although his exams are very difficult, he gives countless opportunities for you to earn back points and extra credit. Definitely take orgo with him if you get the chance.
Orgo is a very difficult class, and I am not good at chem, but Dr. Beshir made this class much more manageable. It is clear that he wants his students to do well. He gives many opportunities for extra credit and even does test corrections when the class average is low. You just have to put the work in. Make sure to go to his weekly reviews!
Prof Beshir is a great educator, however I felt that his lectures and and pre lecture videos were two different things. Some things he would say in his pre lecture videos wouldn't align with what he says in class so take that into consideration. Not too much homework and quizzes were easy if you paid attention in lecture.
Always had review sessions before exams as well as weekly review sessions. Nice guy and you can tell he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed in the course.
Beshir is a pretty cool dude. Makes learning objectives pretty clear. Gives a lot of extra credit but makes you work for it. You typically have to take an extra credit quiz to gain points back in most cases. Make sure you attend all lectures and keep up with the homework. He really tries to help you out, and is a pretty good teacher. I'd recommend.
Dr. Beshir is the best professor I have had at UConn. He is extremely caring and willing to ensure his students understand the material. Orgo 1 is a challenging course, and the course exams reflect that. However, he offers multiple resources (office hours, workshops, and extra credit) that are very helpful. Highly recommended!
Grew to very much enjoy Orgo Lab. It was a fun course and pretty easy if you did well in Orgo 1/2. Beshir gives a lot of EC (up to +3.2% to final grade) and holds many office hours (8 hours a week). He seems to really enjoy teaching and is very patient with his students. Chemistry is cool B)
ATTEND CLASS. Gives you pointers for what to include on lab reports/how to do well on quizzes. Post lab quizzes are difficult, understanding each part of the procedure is key. Lots of extra credit and he curves the final and your grade if average is low. Very accessible outside of class, go to him every week and go over your quizzes.
Dr. Beshir is one of the best professors I've had. He has a genuine passion for teaching and is available for extra help. I felt like I learned chemistry instead of struggling my way through. He gives extra credit/quiz revisions to help your grade.
Took as a summer course and it was the best decision. Definitely would have done so much worse during a normal semester. Did a lot of white board writing which I really like. Was super forgiving with quiz corrections and gave the biggest exam curves I've ever had in a class before, usually between 10-20 points. Office hours was super helpful.
amazing.
His tests are impossible. I have gotten a 60 on each one and the average is always a 65. Not fair at all and he is a horrible professor.
He is by far the best chemistry professor I have had at UConn. The material is very challenging but he gives a lot of extra credit and test corrections to improve your grade. He also holds weekly review sessions and reviews before exams. You do have to attend lecture if you want to do well. If you have to take orgo take it with him!!
Take him for orgo 1, easily the best professor. Clearly explains everything and exams are very fair, attend lecture and review sessions! Not only that, he has given us so much extra credit this semester, I don't know how you can get lower than an A, he drops lowest exam, adds 3% of EC to your final grade, and does test corrections for points back!
Dr. Beshir is one of the best professors I've had at UConn. Although I struggled in this class, Dr. Beshir's office hours, weekly review session, and overall style of lecturing has helped me through it. He handwrites the lecture notes which is incredibly helpful. I would definitely take him again!
Orgo is a very tough class. Beshir does his best to make explain, provide examples and prepare you as well as possible. He does weekly review, lots of extra credit, lots of office hours, and your grade is comprised of many different aspects. Beshir is the way to go for taking orgo 1 in my opinion.
Dr Beshir truly cares about all his students and making sure everyone learns the material. He's very accessible and offers many opportunities for people to review the material through things like weekly review sessions. He really does his best so that people won't need to worry as much about their grade and can focus on actually learning instead.
Professor Beshir is the best professor I have had at uconn. He clearly shows you what you need to know and explains it so it makes sense. If you go to weekly reviews the quizzes should not be hard. The quizzes and exams are very similar. Attendance is necessary, there are class activities often and sometimes extra credit that is only in class.
Orgo is extremely difficult but Beshir gave out so many extra credit opportunities, even dropping your lowest exam grade and allowing for a makeup quiz. He was always available for extra help. I recommend studying for weekly quizzes and attending his review sessions. Also doing exam corrections for extra bonus points.
Orgo was def a hard subject, but if you put in the work the number of opportunities he gives really boosts your grades. I went to lots of office hours and he is really funny and it's clear that he loves what he does. A godsend in the normally bad Uconn chem department. The only thing I wish is that he taught more chemistry courses.
Orgo is definitely a difficult course. Take advantage of the resources he gives. He hosts review sessions, has pre-lecture videos, exam reviews, practice exams, study guides, and office hours, and goes through the majority of his lectures with examples of the types of questions he will use for exams. If you do this, you can get an A.
Orgo is the hardest class I've taken at UConn however, Dr. Beshir made this course manageable. The content is very difficult but Dr. Beshir gives lots of review sessions and office hours. Use the resources he offers and go to every class.
Dr. Beshir is one of the kindest, funniest, and most helpful professors at UConn. His lectures are very informative, and he offers many office hours and extra help sessions so you get the material down. For a hard class with tough exams, Beshir is truly an angel among the Chem department, and it was such a pleasure being in his class.
Professor Beshir is fabulous. He is great at explaining things and although his quizzes/exams are difficult, he offers plenty of extra credit opportunities and points back on exams. Attend every class and the weekly review sessions to get a good grade in this class.
AN ANGEL. orgo is the hardest course I have taken but with Beshir it is so doable. He is always trying to help literally always. He offers so much extra credit in class and on exams to gain points back. He has so many resources to do well on his exams/quizzes. If you take advantage of it you'll get an A. pls take him u won't regret it
Just take Beshir for Orgo 1. Just do it. You won't regret it.
I've never had a sweeter professor. He cares so much about his students, and gives so much extra credit bc he wants you to do WELL! Ochem has a bad reputation, but honestly his class was so much easier than gen chem. Go to office hours if you can, and do your best to keep your notes ORGANIZED. Excellent lectures, he handwrites all his notes.
All the example problems he does in class or office hours never correspond to the actual exams. The average in the class last fall was a 65 on every exam. He should not get the praise that he gets. Awful.
Professor Beshir is very helpful. Organic chemistry is a hard course but he puts in the time and effort and wants you to succeed. Attend office hours as often as you can as problems on tests are sometimes the same as he gives. Gives review guides which are helpful. Class activities almost every class so you can't really miss it
The only chem professor that can get you to an A in a hard class with minimal stress (if you can only put in the time and effort it takes). He has weekly reviews, he's always available for office hours right after class, he has exam reviews as well, he gives 1 point extra credit on every exam, and his explanations are perfectly clear. Send it.
I was initially scared about taking orgo but Professor Beshir made it a lot more simple. He does random extra credit so be sure to attend lectures. There's a quiz once a week and typically a class activity (group and individual) every lecture. He is very accessible outside of lectures and responds to emails. He doesn't deserve slander!!
Professor Beshir, is very understanding is willing to help you if you are struggling. His exams can be a bit much. I do recommend using textbook problems as practice and doing the study guide. Go to office hours or the weekly review. He does give some extra credit. There are weekly quizzes and 3-4 exams. As well as 2 assignments.
I personally LOVED Dr. Beshir. I would suggest him as a professor to anyone who is taking orgo. He is so caring and offers so much outside help, you can tell that he wants his students to all succeed. Go to his weekly review sessions, super helpful with understanding concepts. Lecture is def mandatory bc he gives out class activities but loved him.
Beshir is one of the best professors in the Chemistry department. He very clearly cares very deeply for his students and gives so much opportunity for extra credit so don't miss lecture or 9/10 you will miss an extra credit. He truly wants everyone to do well and learn and is a very good teacher. Study for the post-lab quizzes though.
Dr. Beshir is amazing! Gives out lots of extra credit in lectures so make sure you don't miss it! Does weekly reviews that are super helpful. Honestly, if you don't go, the quizzes and exams are much harder as he shows you exactly what kind of problems he will give you. Is the best professor here at UConn and def needs a raise for how great he is.
I had to drop this class due to my health but Dr Beshir is so kind and nice I wish to have him again in the future. DO NOT OVERLOAD YOURSELF WHEN YOU TAKE 2445. I was taking 6 classes at the time and it ruined me. This class with orgo2 is like a full time job. Give this class the respect & time it deserves. You'll learn a lot of cool practical chem
He is a very caring professor and only ever wants his students to succeed, ex: extra credit & review. Exams and coursework are extremely hard if you don't pay attention and put in the work, miss one class & there is nothing for you to know what was missed unless you get help from your group mates. Unforgiving class material, but forgiving teacher.
Never would I have ever thought of saying "Organic Chemistry is easier than Gen chem" until I took a semester with Professor Beshir. He was super loving toward students, genuinely wanting them to understand topics rather than having to worry about our grades. He would hold many office hours and just feed students with great practice to prepare!
I failed this class the first time I took it with Kienzler. Took it again this summer in only 7 weeks. Went from an F to a B+. On Kienzler's exam, on drawing products I answered 0/9. After Anwar I answered 9/9 AND got them all correct. Amazing professor. Extra credit and makeups, asks YOU questions, does problems on board after making you try.
Loved taking orgo lab w Beshir! He gives really good opportunities for extra credit, has fair grading standards, and truly cares about his students.
Beshir is an awesome professor. He makes Orgo 1 easy to understand and is always eager to help. He offers so many opportunities to make sure you understand the material; weekly review sessions and exam review sessions. Highly recommend him if you have to take Orgo 1
This is solely for the lab portion of the class. In 2241 (the lecture) he was amazing. I was expecting the same for the fall for the lab portion which I had to take after and the exams are very difficult. He expects you to know everything about the procedures, exactly why and what happens. It is just very difficult to study for.
I'd say a tough but fair professor. He is willing to give extra credit but expects you to put in the work. Very accessible via office hours and holds a weekly review (def recommend these) as well as exam reviews. All topics have online lectures on HuskyCT but go to class bc his lectures are helpful w/ practice problems and hints at exam questions
Dr. Beshir is truly an amazing professor that cares about his students doing well in his class. Highly recommend taking advantage of all of his review sessions and especially office hours. I found myself doing so much better on the weekly quizzes and exams after attending office hours after class. My favorite professor in the chemistry department!
Orgo is a hard class, but Beshir made it so doable. Take advantage of office hours, review sessions, etc. Hard work and effort does not go unnoticed by him. Compared to the other professors, offered so many more resources and opportunities to turn your grade around. Lectures are easy to follow, and he is very approachable.
Lab is so nice with Beshir. He describes everything that's going to be on the pre-lab quizzes and the two exams. The lab reports are so easy just fill out the lab page and turn it in at the end of the period. Beshir is always available for extra help and office hours.
I have mixed feelings about my experience in Beshir's class. He is a compassionate, brilliant professor who kept the class engaged. He gave a lot of extra credit opportunities and you can really tell he wants his students to succeed. But I hated the class, it moves way too fast, incredibly challenging, and I would recommend 2243 + 2244 instead.
He's an absolute king. He made orgo enjoyable and easy to understand. My main tip to pass is go to lecture because he offers tons of extra credit and there's often quizzes and class activities. Also GO TO WEEKLY REVIEWS!!! He will give you sample quiz and exam problems that are more challenging than the problems he does in lecture.
This professor is one of the best I've ever had. Yes Orgo is a tough class, but his lectures make it so much more understandable and he genuinely cares that you do well. As long as you go to lecture and put in the effort to study and go to review sessions you'll be fine. He offers extra credit on exams and in class too. So good at what he does.
Beshir is an amazing prof. He cares about his students and offers a good amount of extra credit and is very helpful with questions. Pre lecture videos are helpful to watch because the class lectures move pretty fast. His tests are meant to be tricky but they are still fair. He also offers points back on tests. Also go to weekly reviews if you can!
If you're gonna take orgo, take it with Beshir. His lectures were very fast-paced, but he held regular office hours and review sessions. The exams were difficult but fair, and he gave plenty of extra credit opportunities. Utilize the resources that he provides you with and YOU WILL SUCCEED! One of my favorite classes that I've taken at UConn.
Pleasant guy, but you should be more reliable when it comes to quizzesthey can be really difficult and include class participation I wish his quizzes and final exams were worth less. When it comes to exam review, I believe he should do it during lecture time rather than at a different time. Due to my schedule, I wasn't able to attend several times.
beshir is so good and really nice and really caring but this is what u need to know - go to ALL lectures bc participation will rlly help you (+3%) to final grade & do all the EC! - he gives back points on exams, typically 30% - go to his O.H. if u need clarification bc TRUST the concepts get harder - watch pre lecture vids before class - pray
I thought orgo would be more difficult. Don't get me wrong, the concepts get fairy complicated, but Beshir does a good job of simplifying them. He does offer extra credit, but I wish he gave more practice problems per each concept. He also throws lots of curveballs on quizzes/exams and the last exam/final were hard. Need to study a lot for sure.
He's the GOAT. Take orgo lab w him especially if you are majoring in chemistry.
Being one of the few Freshmen enrolled in Orgo was rather daunting until meeting Dr. Beshir. He is genuinely one of the most kind professors around and really cares about how his students do. He offers a lot of extra credit along with test corrections and this makes the class much less stressful. The one caveat for me is the weekly quizzes.
The lectures are super easy to follow and he makes a very difficult course as easy to manage as possible. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well, giving loads of grade adjustments and extra credit. He grades fairly and is even pretty funny. The class is hard because of the subject but having him made it infinitely easier.
N.O.P.E
I had beshir for orgo 1 an I really enjoyed his class. That's why i took his orgo lab class this semester. I felt that his teaching style was completely different then it was in orgo 1. He didn't explain concepts well and often put things on quizzes and tests that were never covered in lecture. He explained the labs poorly which led to confusion.
Probably one of my favorite professors at UConn. Orgo was daunting to me at first but I honestly liked it better than Gen Chem. He gives so much extra credit and grade adjustments, just make sure you go to class. Quizzes were the hardest part, once a week every Wednesday. Definitely recommend!
Probably one of my favorite professors at UConn. Orgo was daunting to me at first, but I honestly like it better than Gen Chem. He gives so much extra credit and grade adjustments, just make sure you go to class. Quizzes were the hardest part, once a week every Wednesday. Definitely recommend!
Take organic chemistry with Dr. Beshir!! He is a fantastic lecturer and he really cares about his students. You could also tell the passion that he has for organic chemistry and I feel that it definitely will translate to the students. Quizzes and Exams were fair, but he likes to throw curves balls at you. Study the material and you will do fine!
Beshir is an excellent organic chemistry professor. His lectures can be fast-paced, but he provides great resources like office hours and review sessions. Utilizing Unstuck AI alongside the textbook really helped me stay on top of the material and ace the exams.
Awesome professor, provides EC randomly throughout lectures so make sure you go. tries his best to make sure students are happy with their grades. very caring and good at explaining. he's very Clear about what he's going to test about. the exams are very straight forward and doesn't try to trick you. go to his study sessions
He sets up his finals like he wants you to fail, he chooses questions that we have never seen or only talked about once rather than things we actually learned. If you are going to do that there needs to be a study guide.
Dr. Beshir may just about be one of the most caring professors I have ever encountered at UConn so far. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed, as long as you try to succeed. I didn't do great due to extenuating circumstances I experienced this semester, but I would recommend you take his class.
It's organic chemistry which is definitely not an easy A course in general, but Professor Beshir wants his students to understand the material and succeed. He goes the extra mile to be available and throughly explains concepts. Weekly quizzes and related homework help to reinforce lectures. Sporadic class assignments so make sure you attend class.
Lectures were chaotic (no slides and everything written in his notes app), exams were extremely difficult being multiple choice with almost no partial credit (and far more complex than lecture content) . He does curve and offers lots of extra credit, but I wouldn't take him if you don't want to teach yourself the content for the entire semester.
Orgo is a hard subject but if you attend lectures and put in the work, Beshir gives lots of extra credit to raise your grade and has corrections for basically every exam. He is knowledgeable of the subject and explains concepts clearly. However, he doesn't post lecture notes so you NEED TO GO TO LECTURE and stay focused if you want to succeed
Beshir is a good teacher and I was able to learn a lot. However, everything feels rushed- not much time for quizzes and exams or pop-quiz class activities. He does not post/record his slides, and he takes a long time to answer emails. He does give a lot of extra credit, but you have to earn it. Exams are hard, so study lots and go to office hours!
Dr. Beshir is the best. His office hours and weekly reviews are so helpful. The only downside to this class is that he goes fast, so it is hard to write everything down. If you put in the effort and practice, the material isn't as hard as it seems. He gives a lot of extra credit and does in-class assignments, so make sure you're in class.
Doctor Beshir makes Orgo manageable! His lectures are fast, but pre-lecture videos and office hours help fill gaps. Weekly quizzes are tough but fair, covering the prior week's content. Office hours!! He explains well and never makes you feel dumb. Exams are hard but fair. Lots of extra credit! Class attendance for activities. Take him if you can!
Beshir was amazing. Provided many resources and office hours to ensure student success. He focused on learning and understanding organic chemistry, not just memorization. Tough class activities and test corrections prepared us for his fair but challenging exams (curveballs). 3% extra credit and exam grade boosts, take Beshir to truly learn Orgo!
His exams/questions are a learning curve. Must semi-memorize+understand all of HIS in-class examples to do well (don't bother with the textbook). He gives 3% EC and drops an exam because he wants his students to learn but also to be happy with their grades. Wasn't sure if I should take Beshir or Tran, but no regrets taking Beshir! 10/10 professor!!
Firstly, orgo is a difficult class regardless of the professor. Beshir's teaching and grading methods helped me get a good grade in the class, so I would recommend him. He does do random in-class activities so attendance is important but he also adjusts grades and adds extra points throughout the semester to make sure most people get good grades.
By far the best professor I have had so far. He truly cares and wants you to do well in class. Go to lecture because weekly quizzes, make up points for exams, and class activities will save your grades. Go to weekly review sessions outside of class as well as studying study guides for quizzes.
Chemistry certainly isn't my best subject but I tried so hard to understand the content. This class had me in tears like every other day. There were NO TA's which is beyond me with such a giant class..and the speed at which it was taught was way to fast. Grading is really heavy on exams. Office hours didn't help but extra credit saved me.
Dr. Beshir was an amazing professor. He offered extra credit and thoroughly went through problems in class. His exams were reasonable and he wanted students to succeed. He also gave up much of his time to help students such as office hours and one-on-one sessions. Class is mandatory as there are weekly quizzes and in class assignments.
Good guy, great lectures but exams can be tricky
Orgo is super hard but Prof Beshir does his best to make it more understandable. He gives out a decent amount of extra credit. Offers exam corrections + quiz to earn up to half of the points you lost. Definitely go to lecture, there's very little chance you succeed without it.
Dr. Beshir is an amazing professor who puts in the time to make sure his students succeed. He offers office hours 3 times a week along, weekly review sessions, SI, and even exam review sessions. Although sometimes the lectures may seen fast paced, he does a good job with giving outside resources to help and gives many extra credit opportunities.
Orgo is hard but he makes it VERY understandable. His lectures are fast paced, but you get the hang of it. Incredibly nice in office hours and cares about his students. Very fair. Weekly quizzes but they help keep you on track, random extra credit + class activities to help boost grade. Has exam corrections with specific rules; WORTH IT.
Easily the most overrated professor at UConn. Very fast paced and does not post his lecture materials. Also withholds information trying to get you to "think about it" but never gives you the answer. Gives good extra credit and makes the class easy to get a decent grade in, but makes the class harder than it has to be in terms of the understanding.
The lectures are pretty helpful with learning the material, but obviously fast paced. The part that frustrates me about this professor is the fact that he will give a lot of practice problems to "try at home" but never give the answers, so I never know if I got the question right, and therefore can't learn. He also doesn't really answer emails.
This course is pretty tough but Dr. Beshir truly cares and wants you to do well. You have weekly quizzes, participation, and random extra credit so you have to go to class. He drops grades as he really wants you to do well and not fail. The course is super tough but it is just because of the content. He's great!
Anwar is a trick question merchant and he likes to gatekeep answers to practice questions. His lectures are good, but sometimes he rushes through material.
i recommend him. BUT gave more drops to different section its all mcq, no tricks, go to class, take GOOD notes just not fair when he gives one class one thing and the other nothing, same course just a different section he doesnt actually care like people say, he does this stuff for the image of a higher average leaving the lower people with nothing
Dr. Beshir goes quickly through lectures, but offers more than enough outside support for students to succeed. He hosts weekly review sessions, has multiple office hours, and hosts his own exam reviews before every test. Genuinely cares about helping you improve and learn. Great prof!
Orgo can be tough and there are weekly quizzes but he drops the lowest two and overall they help your grade since it's not solely based on exams. His exams use a lot of the same questions from quizzes and if you study it's really fair. He's also a really nice guy and will go out of his way to try and help. Also test corrections were a huge bonus
Good professor but goes way too fast for the difficulty of the content. Pop quiz style of lecturing, exams are difficult and the final this year was a nightmare- always come to class prepared for a surprise extra credit question. Caring in office hours, but can be frustrating in lecture since nothing is posted. Study way in advance!
Love him so much if you have to take orgo take it with this professor. Curved our final exam, gave extra credit, and dropped an exam. You have to put the work in though since this is not an easy class. Learned so much from him and make sure to go to reviews and office hours.
If you can memorize, this is the orgo II professor for you. Just memorize/understand class notes+quiz questions and they will reappear on exams (everything is multiple choice). A thorough review/understanding of his notes are all that's needed to do well. Very grade-conscious and a nice guy. He's happy to explain questions in office hours. 10/10
Prof Beshir is the best Prof I have ever had, he is so caring and wants you to perform well. He's exams are very similar to his practice exams and most of the examples he teaches in class are on the exam. He also lets you correct all your quizzes and exams for points back.
Not what all these ratings claim him to be.
Beshir was such a good professor for 2241 but the lab portion just seems so much more difficult. Average for exam 1 was below 65. Labs aren't bad if you have a good TA. STUDY for lab quizzes, he only drops one. Tough class, make sure you go to lecture bc he doesn't always post the slides/notes. Gives some extra credit/curves exams.
worst. gives weekly quiz, (accuracy based) class activities, and homework assignments allow three attempts with a 10% deduction for each try. The professor does not post answers for study guides or practice questions, so to review them is during the 1.5 hour review session held every Friday. I can tell he tries to give help outside of class tho
Professor Beshir is super caring and incredibly fair! He wants his students to understand concepts and not simply memorize. He made me enjoy organic chemistry and he offers so much extra credit! Just be prepared to study and you will do great. If you are struggling don't be afraid to reach out to him as he is ready to help you!! Beshir is the best!
Beshir gives soooo many opportunities for extra credit, extra points, exams dropped, quizzes dropped, etc. I think it actually might be impossible to fail his class. As long as you go to lecture and keep up with the material you will get an A. His weekly review sessions are VERY helpful for the weekly quizzes.
Orgo is genuinely the hardest class I have ever taken, but Dr Beshir is an amazing teacher and genuinely cares about the class doing well. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He explains everything you need to know for quizzes and exams, and shows you where to look in your notes for the exam. He does not post any notes on HuskyCT though, so go to class.
Beshir is hands down best prof I have had. Its a hard course, but he makes it super manageable and gives lots of opportunities to improve. 3 midterms (lowest dropped), cumulative final, weekly quizzes, and in class assignments or EC. If you go to lecture and his weekly review and actually try to understand the material, you will succeed TAKE BESHIR
Beshir's a nice guy and he gives a lot of grace when it comes to grading. Weekly quizzes, lowest two grades dropped, 4 exams including the final. Studying was frustrating because the practice problems he provided didn't come with answers, so it was hard to know if I was on the right track. You'll do better if you attend SI or office hours
Lectures are disorganized and leave you with impossible to comprehend notes. Moves between subjects quickly and does not post notes or lectures online. The class ends up being almost entirely self-taught. Pop quizzes and lecture activities that count towards your grade, on concepts taught 20 mins prior. Exam averages were usually around 50. Beware.
Dr. Beshir was my absolute favorite professor. Being a freshman, taking orgo was pretty daunting, but it became clear that he genuinely cares about students UNDERSTANDING the material. As long as you put aside a little bit of time each week for this class, go to lecture, and attend weekly review you'll be fine. Office hours were super helpful too.
Beshir is the best orgo professor you'll get at UConn. Orgo is naturally challenging, but he is very accessible outside of class to help. He's willing to meet individually, has great office hours, and weekly reviews. Definitely attend as much as possible. Also gave plenty extra credit and support for grades. It's hard, but definitely achievable.
Beshir is my favorite professor. He has many resources to help students with office hours after every class, an hour and a half weekly review outside of class and an SI session every week. The class is graded from homework, weekly quizzes, and in class activities. The exam averages were 60s but we could get 40% of our grade back with corrections.
